Congratulations for making a game ! Nice work on the ambiance !

edalbung 2020-10-06 13:03

GG for your work! I liked the dark atmosphere of your game! However, I found the sounds a little too saturated for my ears.

idan-rooze 2020-10-06 13:05

I think the game could be better balanced, as I got quite frustrated with not being able to survive for longer than 10 seconds. Also, F is a terrible button for exiting the game, especially in a FPS horror game where I expected it to be a flashlight. Good luck!

hakunasoft 2020-10-06 13:33

@wakobu Thank you!

@edalbung Thanks for the feedback! I'll be doing some balance on the sounds to make it more comfortable to hear!

@idan-rooze Did you used the shotgun on the first enemy that comes in front of you, as soon as you enter the dungeon? The pistol damage is 50, and it has 30 bullets on the clip, and the shotgun takes around 250 damage, and has 7 bullets on the clip, the "normal" enemies have 250 health, so a single shotgun shot can kill them, and the "Skull Ram" enemies has around 1000 health, so you can kill them with 4 shotgun blasts, it all depends on which enemy you want to kill first, and also, you can run while holding Left Shift(I forgot to put it on the controls layout at the beggining, gonna fix it on the next update), and the boss(if you manage to find his secret room) has around 3300 health, so it can be a tough challenge. I put a difficulty level that I thought it would be fair enough to enjoy and overcome the enemies, but I see what I can do to make it more comfortable to play. And about the "F" button to go to menu, I'm gonna change it to "ESC" on the next update. Thanks for you feedback!

kevin-meissner 2020-10-06 14:31

Ok you run with shift, now I understand how to play that game XD

hakunasoft 2020-10-06 14:47

@kevin-meissner Yeah, my bad it wasn't on the controls screen, only realized after the build was done xD

hakunasoft 2020-10-09 14:29

v0.97 update is here!

- Added a few more enemies

- Changed the menu button prompt from "F" to "ESC"

- Increased shotgun ammo, now it has 14 bullets on the clip!

- Tweaked the difficulty a little bit

- Made a few sound tweaks, so now it should be more comfortable for headphone users

- Added a little light hint to lead to the boss fight room

- Added ending screen

- Increased boss health, from 3300 to 3500

Come face Satan and his minions on this brand new update, and break the cycle once and for all!

Man this is a challenging game, get a little further each time, took me a bit to figure out how to get past the skull guys cause they have so much HP at first i didnt even think they were killable. i spent a pretty good amount of time playing this but never got very far.

The atmosphere in the game is great, i think thats the shining gem in this, it does feel like a horror game.

i think the sound is decent, and that theres enough here to be engaging and interesting.

The graphics generally fit, though theres some inconsistency that breaks the immersion a little bit, it doesent take away to much from the gameplay however.

The gameplay itself feels really reponsive and clean.

Some additional visual or auditorial information when you get reset, run out of ammo in the magazine and hit a enemy would add a lot to the expirience i think.

@grinnij Thank you for you feedback! I'm glad you liked the game. I didn't had much time to work on it since my job took half of the weekend, so I did the best I could to deliver a decent jam game, and already did some updates on it. For the informations when you die, get out of ammo and hit an enemy, I decided to not put it to maintain the game clean and challenging, and since it's a hellish loop, kinda fits the purpose xD. About the enemy hits, I thought it would be cool for the person that was playing to build some strats for killing the enemies quick, managing which weapon does more damage for that type of enemy. And about the bullets on the clip, I didn't put the hud for it to not break the immersion, and make the player pay attention about how much bullets he has left, and how much he has in total on the clip. If I had put much hud information on the screen, it would just break the horror atmosphere, and turn it into a generic monster fps, so I decided to just keep it clean. Again, thanks for the feedback!

@hakunasoft yeah the Time constraint is definitly pretty crazy especially if you cant even devote the full amount of time to it, pretty awesome what you accomplished in such a short period of time, i certaintly couldent do that, im just the artist. lol

I agree about the hud breaking the atmosphere, and a lot of the best horror games dont have much for huds if any, and i may be wrong but to elaborate on what i was thinking would be to more or less just add a sound effect or particle effect that the player would associate with the action thats taking place little subtle clues to just let the player pick up and hone in on and not really take away from the game experience. more as a polish thing.

hakunasoft 2020-10-12 17:02

@grinnij I see. Sadly I don't have enough code experience to do such a thing, but there's the cross aim at the middle of the screen, that guide the direction of the weapon shot, from that you kinda know if you have hit or miss the enemy.

niterich 2020-10-22 16:13

I think you've got the graphics and atmosphere down pat (though I don't think purple is the scariest colour for a mood light), but the complete lack of feedback really hampered my experience. I didn't even know I could kill the skull demons because they didn't react in any way to my shots and took way too many to take down. Even the low-poly giants were hard to tell if they were killable with just the pistol. I think a pained sound effect and some blood particles could really help convey this to the players.

theseller 2020-10-22 21:07

Like others are saying, the visuals are great! The music is good but some of the SFX are a little loud for me. As well there are many points where I can't see the enemy running towards me and so I cant aim at them!

hakunasoft 2020-10-23 17:24

@niterich As I explained a few comments above, the pistol does only 50 damage, and the shotgun does 250, so the shotgun has the highest damage rate, as the pistol is just for quick shots in case you're in trouble with enemies, and as for the skull demons, their life is a little bit higher so that you can know that they represent more trouble that the low poly giants, and for the sounds or blood particles, I'll see what I can do for it, but for the current patch of the game, there's an aim on the middle of the screen where you can know if you damage the enemies or not. Thanks for you feedback!

@theseller Can you describe which sound is loud for you? I've made a sound tweak on the last update, so that they were a little bit comfortable to hear, and for the lack of lightning to see the enemy coming, that was intentional, since you're stuck in a hell loop, so it's natural that you die over and over again until you memorize where the enemies will come from, so you can kill them fast and make some strategies to not die quickly, but I'll try to increase the view range a little bit more. Thanks for you feedback!
