I like how it controlls. Feels like a new take on snake. I think this game could work very well on mobile. Don't forget to add the source code for the game (Gamemaker project file). It's required for the comp.

Very fun! I have some notes, though, all of which are fairly minor and don't subtract too much from the experience. My biggest gripe was the difficulty progression. It seems that all the enemy planes stay localized around the centre of the screen until you reach a certain score threshold... and maybe that's wrong, but if it is then i'm not sure what the case really is. The problem with this is the way it makes your ability to grab the point a bit too random; if it's near the edges then you're good but if not you'd better hope for the best as you go in for a kamikaze. Again, not a big deal, but worth noting. (And if i'm wrong about this, maybe try to figure out why this seemed to be the case.) Two more smaller issues : first, I think that the enemy planes should NOT kill you after they've started to fade away. Feel free to disagree. Lastly, I think the enemies should've started spawning after you collect the first point, just to smooth out the learning curve. That's all, I really enjoyed this one, very nicely done.
This is probably my favorite game I've played yet! Simple, easy to learn but hard to master. The title screen did a great job of explaining the concept too without needing a tutorial. Awesome job!
One of the actual gems. Awesome job, very addicting gameplay.
Great idea, it feels like a fun take on snake, hard to tell what the clones are doing after a while. Cheers!
My highest score was 14. Very nice take on the theme! And I agree with people that this could work pretty well as a little mobile game.
this was fun as hell and it looks great! good job
Really neat little game! would work great on mobile :D
This would work great on mobile, really good fun! Only issues is the enemy AI, they all follow pretty similar paths that seem to be based off where the point is. Had good fun though, keep it up!
I agree with other comments, would be great on mobile. Maybe increase how far each enemies increase their distance every time though
I sometimes struggled with hitting the cube, so I could only get 7 points at max in my 5-6 tries.
At one point I was complete behind an enemy and wanted to fire rockets at it. So maybe weapons could be nice additions. Sometimes lots of airplanes orbited the cube and my chances to through them was pretty low.
But I enjoyed it, and with more features I would play it more
The aesthetics are pretty neat, good job for such a good, minimalistic style!
Marvellous! Seem to be a variety of Snake, but give me a sense of freshness, I even cant put down it. Best Idea!!
It actually fits Mobile
Perfect presentation, from the fake nes cartridge to the minimalist graphic works and animations, it really feels alive. Controls a tad tricky but definitely gives you some adrenaline. Highscore was 8.
Super fun game! Would be nice to see on mobile! Enjoyed it. Only thing that would be appreciated is to have the last highscore shown during playtime.
Also - how did you export the game in Gamemaker 2 so it doesn't have to install? I could only export as install.exe
screenshot5.png
The game is so hard :) or just my poor brain can't comprehend the controls lol. Nevertheless, good game! I had a lot of fun trying it out!
What a fun little game! The core mechanics are very nice and fit the theme, I love the idea. And the art is simple and smooth as well. Good job! I've managed to get 18 points :) One thing I have to point out, is that the clones' movement is weird when they hit the edge, shouldn't they also get to the opposite side of the screen?
I love it!
The core gameplay concept is incredibly simple but it has surprising depth. The aesthetic also has a wonderful, elegant simplicity to it.
It seemed clear to me, but based on some of the other comments people are leaving, perhaps you could have done more to explain that the enemy planes all follow the same path the player takes. I suppose the intro clip just looks like the enemy is chasing the player, rather than retracing their steps. Maybe making the dotted trail longer would have helped?
Aside from time-consuming things like composing music, the only thing I can think of to improve the game would be to better hint to the player that the edges of the level loop around. If the intro animation was looped so that it showed the planes re-entering from the left as they exit from the right, that would have been perfect.
@squimmy I have just updated it thanks for the feedback!
The resolution didn't work right for the HTML version for me, I couldn't see part of the right side of the game so when dots spawned there I couldn't see them. Otherwise I loved it! Great movement, graphics, and sounds! So smooth!
Really Good! HTML version is a bit buggy for me but really fun, good job
Really well made and great looking game! Could only get to 6 but was fun to keep trying!
Really fun game, the controls are nice, the music sounds good, and it is very addicting, great job!
Great art style.
Great gameplay.
Great job!
awwww come on man! how do you make something so simple so good? it's not fair
you should make a zen mode. it was really pleasant flying around
I'm really impressed by how you were able to take such a simple concept, limited resolution and color palette, and made a game that feels so rich. I really agree with @squimmy's comment on depth.
Also, that explosion animation is really great!
Nice game, but once the screen went black and the game stopped?
@effarek Yeah thats an issue on the HTML Build sorry!
Really fun! The game is very simplistic in both gameplay and graphics, but that adds to its charm in this case. Clever twist on Snake.
Nice game, fun to play! A bit simplistic but well executed. Also nice use of the theme. Good job.
It feels pretty great to play. It reminds me of my first LD game which was also an arena of triangles with super simple yet super effective AI. Except yours have great controls. The AI have only one gripe though and that is they don't migrate enough.
There's a clear snake inspiration though I think it would be more fun if you expanded beyond it and added stages, powerups or multiplayer. A mobile port would also be something to look forward to.
Things you probably know already: it's a shame it doesn't have any BGM and theme-wise I can draw loops but I don't see the "stuck" part.
My highscore is 16.
Game is absolute joy and steeze, truly enjoy. Also It's really awesome that's it's only 2MB archieve, how you made it?
This game was very fun! I loved the simplistic graphics they worked well. This game was also extremely challenging adding to the fun. A few things I would add is a score borad/high score and some music while playing. Over all great game!
Good job!
Cute, stylish, and simple. Excellent game, great job!
Simply fantastic!
Simple. Love how the design progresses the difficulty naturally. Controls took a minute to get used to but felt good to use.
Very simple, I feel like this doesn't really adhere to the theme though? Like I see the loop with the movement, but it feels somewhat shoehorned in to me. This is saved by excellent polish, both graphics and audio wise. Very well made for a compo
That explosion effect is spot on!!! The only thing missing is music but considering this is a compo game, I'll be more lenient on that regard. Smooth controls yet challenging! Never felt frustrating. Really well implemented! Good job!
edit: I just realized the enemy planes are clones!
The visual style is simple, but super attractive! Really enjoy the sound effects, and the death animation just bring the overall experience to another level! The mechanic is simple, yet it has enough depth. You need to carefully consider your movement if you want to get higher score. Really great game!
Its a straightforward game, nice simple interpretation on the theme. It probably be a game that I would play on my mobile device, with the minimalist controls. Good job!
a really cool twist on snake. love the simplistic style, looks great.
You start to going in loop around the goal, and with that you make your own business pretty difficult. Amazing :) Really like it. Fun to play with!
This game was super fun to play. The graphics is simple yet it looks very nice. The sound effects are well polished. I was just missing some soundtrack but I understand that there was no time for it. By the way, my highest score was 11, but I'll definitely get back to the game and try to beat it.
Very simple and effective design, nice job
@samdemaine It's really flattering to see my feedback implemented into the game so promptly! Since I'm already ~~nitpicking~~ backseat designing, have you considered making the arrow-key indicators at the bottom fade away after the first few seconds of gameplay? it might make things look even more clean and minimalistic.
@squimmy ill update it in a bit thanks!
I feel obligated to say that is seems you did a lot of changes after the dead line...and not just bug fixes...
Is that a good thing? lol
Not for the other people that are receiving rating without altering their games after the dead line...it is very much against the rules. Being that Ludum Dare is a friendly competition I think it would be nice of you to be a good friend and revert to a previous version with only bug fixes.
The controls felt really nice. I liked that the Restart was so quick. That definetly makes it more addicting. I was kinda confused by your UI. It took me a bit of time to realise that the yellow thing is your highscore. I would have also liked the ability to control the Player with A and D. This is nitpicking though, really enjoyed it
Nice idea. You have to eat the pieces while avoiding yourself.
I got ten. 1.png
I LOVE the concept. Unfortunately the first few times you hear a sound, it startles you. There's no music so I was sitting there turning my headset up while playing hoping to hear something then BOOM I died and my ears exploded.
The concept is interesting, there was a bug where the little chicklet looking waypoints you have to collect spawned so closely that I collected 2 in the same instant when I should only have got 1.
It's an interesting idea, very simple, minimalistic, but it needs some additional features, some polish, and a visible goal.
A good example of how a simple concept can work well. The controls felt pretty nice and were apparent very quickly. Equally, a simple but elegant art style. Minimal audio but the necessary sounds are there.
That said, continuing to develop the game after the compo has ended goes against what Ludum Dare is about. I get that you didn't know, but it's up to you to know and understand the rules.
But, even so, you can be proud here.
I adore such a simple and minimalistic game, it small, neat and very polished. Incredible work.
Very neat little game.
It feels smoothly polished! Would've loved to have seen some kind of different levels or enemy types.
But this is done very well.
Pretty neat little game, I like the concept. Only thing missing is some music. My highest score was 12
A perfectly designed game with a simple premise and excellent execution. It's like snake with hidden information, I absolutely adore it! Congratulations and good luck!
Simple and really really fun. I love it! Great work!
Really solid execution! Clean graphics. Simple concept that's difficult to master. Got some classic snake vibes. Turns out I'm really bad at dodging myself as I'm very unpredictable. I made it past 10 points, so I'll take that as a win. :D
So fun to see how many people mention the 'enemy AI' and apparently don't notice that they're following your previous path... Entertaining!
Clean really is the word that comes to mind to describe this game, it's pure and simple in its gameplay, visuals, and sound design. The lack of music reinforces that feeling too. I really like the subtle animation effects like the paper planes spawning or the white strokes when you get a pickup, and the death explosion is really well made.
Very simple and competent game, reminds me of phone games like Snake but much smoother and cleaner, good job
The minimal graphics are easy to the eye and super effective. And it's addictive. It only needs nice music and it's good to go. Good job!
It has perfectly graphics and simple controls, i really liked this game while playing! Good Job !
Such a cool game, everything just feels right, I don't even have one think I would like you to change about this. Really well done!
Super simple, super solid! Had a lot of fun playing it, my highscore was 14. The only gripe I had was with the enemy pathing, they are supposed to follow the path that YOU followed, but when you wrap across the screen they actually start going in the opposite direction instead of wrapping. I'm not sure if that was intentional but it takes away a lot of predictability from the enemy behavior and doesn't feel right. Really awesome concept overall.
Fun game, feels polished even with minimalist art
I liked the gameplay a lot. I tried to top my highscore many times. It would have been nice, if there would be a soundtrack. Overall a good and fun game.
I loved this game. Simple, clean and smooth. Made me remember the old days playing snake. Wish it has some simple sound to go along with the minimal art. Well done.
The flow of this game is perfect. It feels really smooth. The gameplay is smooth. The simplistic graphics are charming and make it feel alive. It is also challenging enough. I suck at it actually (my average is 5, got to a highscore of 11), but it is so fun. Great game.
I could very easily get addicted to this! Don't you tempt me! I'll do it!
The game is really easy to understand but quite challenging. I think it could become a nice mobile game if you pursue it. Nice graphics too, and an enjoyable character controller. Good job !
Hey, I got ya on stream, thanks for submitting! Here's the vod if you wanna rewatch it. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/763143712
Simple and effective game! I got a high score of 10, I found the most effective strategy was to grab as many points as possible at the start before you get overwhelmed.
Really well done game, simple visuals work very well here and the game, like others said, could go on mobile! I would personally love some music but that is just a preference over a necessity.
Fun and frustrating just how I like em! The graphics were simple yet fun, yet the lack of music is a bit of a bummer. All in all, well done!
It was very fun to play! I'm not so good at that kind of games, so I didn't make it over 11, but it worth every single minute I spent on it!
Really great idea nice job!
A great arcade game. The Loops of the plane were perfect - not too tight so that it's easy but not unwieldy. I was able to get in a flow of weaving through obstacles and aiming to collect points. Very fun!
Very well made game! Felt well polished and put together, could have used some music and a bit more variety.
I like this game, simple and fun! good job!
Neat game! Seems like the perfect thing to make for a game jam.
Simple idea, but really well made! It feels like a complete game for mobile especially. I actually couldn't tell if the planes continued following your path as the game got longer, but I think that's my eyes playing tricks on me with so many of them on the screen.
Cool
Nice game!
It's very simple yet so fun! Some music would've fit the game nicely. It's very smooth to play. Super fun though I only managed to get 12 max. ;_;
Great entry, well done!
I love it. It's extremely polished and controls nicely. The mechanics are simple and fit the theme, and the few rules that govern the game make it quickly devolve into complete chaos, not even allowing for much planning ahead. Good job!
Right, promise is a promise. For how simple it looks at first glance the game is surprisingly solid. I like how enemies follow your movement and how simplistic but effective the art style is. It's also really easy to pick up since it's so simple.
If there's is anything to add... maybe a grace period when enemy drones spawn I guess, since a few times I would pass by the spawn point and then get rammed immediately out of nowhere by a spawning drone. But other than that I cant think of anything else to critique really.
Overall, solid game, I can see why it's so high up now.
~~This user has repeatedly updated the compo version of the game without leaving a changelog. This is not bugfixes either, it's actual content upgrades. By the rules, this is clear cheating, and he was informed of this by other contestants and kept doing it anyway.~~ (EDIT: see below.) In addition, he has repeatedly spammed people (including me) to do a "rate-for-rate", which is just additional cheating. Untitled.png I left a one-star review and will ping @pov.
EDIT: I have been contacted by @samdemaine about this and he has promised to link to the original compo-version from now on, as well as incorporate a changelog for when he includes an HTML5 version, which his compo version didn't support. He also says he didn't intend to trade good votes, only play people's games if they played his in return. I'll leave you as the judge here.
great art and very interesting take on 'snake,' possibly worth going forward with!
User is also spamming reviews and asking for reviews in return.
rating spam.png
This game is very cool. A nice take on snake that would work wonders on mobile if you can add more enemy archetypes and levels to increase progression and variation so that you can make an infinite amount of levels. The pixel art is very nice and the effects and SFX go well together well done!
my score is 5
very cool game it gets too crazy in very less time
music will make it awesome (just a feedback lol)
Good looking game, gets hard real fast tho
This game is so so fun. I've found the best way to tackle it is like a large game of snake and to never go directly to a point. Always take the long way around because it makes it easier in the long term. Really really well done! Overall a 5 from me!
Fun game :)
the game feeling is awesome ! very chill, handy, and plaiseant. The difficulty is a bit hard, but nothing that prevents to retry again
Since this game still keeps getting a ton of new ratings, I'm sending a comparison between the version from Monday and the version from today:

The author, who although now promised to bring back the original version, had previously dismissed us multiple times. I leave it to your own judgement.
@alaah @indigo I have provided the original and the post jam version now. Hope your happy now (:
Hey that's pretty fun!
Nice game! Very polished and well-scoped for a jam game. I also like how elegant the design is with the enemy ships living longer and longer to make it more difficult over time. The trail is also a nice touch and works very well. Good submission!
It's snake + Paper airplanes! Straight forward, smooth controls and quite addicting!
The graphics didn't load on my computer but from the screenshots they look good! The idea is quite fun and the game is pretty replayable
I have issue with graphics too
This was a simple game but so well implemented. It reminds me of a reimagination of the classic snake game.
I am a little sad that all the images were black squares (with very nice black square shadows) on my computer, in any browser I tried. But the controls are smooth, though I'm bad at them, the concept's good (the temptation to keep fiddling with functions immediately based on feedback is strong...), and it was a very pleasant experience to watch on a livestream (though that was the dot-clouds and high score version being played at the time).
Amazing little arcade game! So polished, well done!
I loved it! The graphics (and audio, I think) did not seem to load on any of my browsers, but I could still play!
Heya! Thanks for submitting your game to my stream at [www.twitch.tv/drjavasaurus](www.twitch.tv/drjavasaurus) ! I had a lot of fun playing your entry. I remember you were discussing the idea last saturday in stream and I was intrigued back then but BOY it turned out nice ! Gosh darn this is a potential winner in at least some categories :) Well done !
Such a cool game! I love the concept and it's perfectly executed. Only complaint is that bug with the plane clones not passing the edge. Great job!
Even though stream crashed I still got some footage: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766604559
Really fun and so well executed...I love the idea and the interrupted trail...Congrats!
I really liked that! It was kinda difficult but very easy to understand! I could see this becoming a very fun mobile game ^^
Simple yet addicting with the right amount of polish. Well done!
I have no feedback to give. This is a solid 5 stars in all.
Well done love the clean art especially on the particle effects
0161 manny on the map
Nicely done, well polished, visually pleasing, only downside is MIA is still stuck in my head.
@alexrose booyaka booyaka
Great paper plane game. Got a high score of 11. good job of updating it! really like it.
Super addicting game! great work! got to 11 and gotta throw in the towel after that.
Love that the design works thematically on multiple levels (the controls, the fact you can loop across the map, the clones are loops what you do). Love the way the difficulty ramps up. Love the aesthetics. Love it!
Super clean game. Great work!
Me and my girlfriend could litterally play this for hours. Such an simple and elegant game, very fun.
This game is soooo relaxing! Had to force myself out of it at some point, otherwise I would have spent the entire day flying around with my peers :D
Amazing clean graphics, simple but fun
This entire game basically takes "simple but so effective" to new heights. I loved it and will probably play it now and again because it's just so fun. Great job dude. This could be a winner. I don't really have any complaints. Maybe some difficulty modes to adjust the speeds of the planes but I honestly can't find much wrong with the game. Amazing job
This game is really fun! I was able was able to get up to 8. I really liked how I could see my high score. It really motivated me to keep playing. Awesome game!!
@samdemaine you should contact admins to update your game to be in the jam category not compo. Breaks the compo rules by updating the game after the deadline. Cheers!
@aarimous I have a post jam version and a jam version, I ask everyone to base there ratings on the jam version as the post jam is a version im working on for mobile :D
WOuld be great on mobile!
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream.

Super clean visuals, a simple premise polished to a T, and just an overall solid package here. I have little to no complaints on this one, very very nice job!
The main gripe I have is the sound that plays when I die - it's like a big bad spring goes off. But otherwise - this is a tranquil game, with a lot of replayability, and fun. When I first launched the executable - I had no idea what to do - I thought I control the little white square for some reason :P
The dead airplanes chasing me did make me think a lot about where I want to fly and how, so it even smells a bit like there's strategic depth to this game that I've yet to figure out. On top of that - the visuals are simple, clean and pretty. Awesome stuff, I had a lot of fun. Thank you for the game :)
Honestly, great game ! Although I feel like it would be more logical (and a bit easier, but that's not the main reason) to have a new plane summoned only when you get a point. Welp anyway, that was a good entry with an interesting and challenging design, so good job !
Your game was played on my stream ( https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos ) on 10/12. Thank you for sharing your game with us! You can find the timestamp of when your game was played here: https://tinyurl.com/yy4oycvv
Great game !!
Partly match the theme, maybe next time it will be better.. Good and clean art, that what I want! :). Average audio, it not bad but not good, try harded next time. I supose you game will be at good place in fun, because it is FUN. Overall I think this game is good, and I think, next time you will create as good game as this is, or maybe better, so good job.
It's nice, it's clean, it's simple but it's fun! I disagree with some of the other comments and I think it fits the theme well. We understood exactly what to and had a blast playing it
Very well handled and polished game! Really cool and fresh concept. Great job!
Very elegant game, i can't get past my high score of 16; i feel like the game ends at around 13-14, when there's so much chaos that it's impossible to reliably navigate, and you have to rely on luck to progress!
Love the simplistic art style. It would be nice if ai would follow true path as going to side screen. One of the best games!
The version I played on browser (Firefox and Chrome) both gave only black boxes to represent the plane, making it difficult to track some vital information, such as score. I can tell the concept to be simple and fun enough for quick play, and using past locations as an obstacle is really clever. That said, I also felt the game was rather shallow; more like a novelty to play on short bursts, then move on. When working with the glitched art, the game somehow *feels* less fun, even though I suspect the controls and physics still remain exactly the same as before. Which....is weird, honestly.
It's short, it's simple, it's immense fun! Great job!
I could see the updated version be a banger on mobile devices! Nice, clean and calm arstyle in it aswell, and the gameplay is simple enough to be understood by anyone! Incredible work!
That being said, I had to rate the original version. Sorry :/
Best execution of this concept I've seen, very elegant. Beautiful visual design too.
