Great job, would loop again. This is such a hilarious concept and I love how you can alter the level while also trying to perform well on the platforming aspect of it. The changing loop color is a nice touch, congratulations!

louiejams 2020-10-06 13:10

Cute little game! I didn't get too far but the art is fun and controls work well!

kaisenthegreatone 2020-10-06 13:11

nice work. A bit strange that the cat moves with the platform mid air. Neat Idea. Would like to see some more animations for the lasers :D Great effort

chocolat-endive 2020-10-06 13:13

Your game is fun but is reaaally hard. I was stuck at where your second screenshot is, not knowing how to disable the laser. But I'm pretty bad at platformer, so it ma explain why I didn't manage to finish the game.

Good job on the graphics and mechanics!

ianmust 2020-10-06 13:14

Beautiful game! But I really missed the sounds

mariussomka 2020-10-06 13:17

nice meme :):) ofc, great work!

duanra 2020-10-06 13:17

Funny game ! But i can't see all the top and the bottom of the scene at the same time...

pleyad 2020-10-06 13:23

Interesting Game! Cool Graphics and Music, and to make games out of memes is just :loop: :cat: :ok_hand:

I found the button activation a bit weird and annoying, because everything was always moving and it was quite difficult to hit them correctly. What do you think of having to press a random key (O,7,L, ...) to activate a button?

scharma 2020-10-06 13:28

Cute kitten! I liked the idea, although the way it was implemented was a bit too trial and error for me. I often had to replay the whole thing because I didn't quite grasp what the buttons do in time haha. The music is cool, but I wish it didn't repeat all the way from the start everytime I replay the game. Platforming is solid and tight, and optional collectibles are always an nice addition. Cool game!

Thanks for your comment!

> The changing loop color is a nice touch, congratulations!

hehe, we loved the randomly-generated loop colors too :D

heho 2020-10-06 13:41

really nice entry I loved the mechanic that the lengths of your jumps depends on the speed at which you are going.

steffo 2020-10-06 13:43

@louiejams:

> Cute little game! I didn’t get too far but the art is fun and controls work well!

We might have made it a bit too hard... Admittedly, I think we spent too little time on the level design phase...

steffo 2020-10-06 13:45

@kaisenthegreatone:

> A bit strange that the cat moves with the platform mid air.

What do you mean...? The cat shouldn't be affected by the conveyor belt while in mid air... did you find a bug, or have I misunderstood the sentence?

steffo 2020-10-06 13:49

@chocolat-endive:

> Your game is fun but is reaaally hard.

I noticed that from the comments :P

> Good job on the graphics and mechanics!

Thanks! :smile:

kaisenthegreatone 2020-10-06 14:33

@steffo You understood me correctly. The cat gets affected mid air... I don't know what I did, but it somehow happens... still a great game neverthenless

steffo 2020-10-06 14:37

@ianmust:

> But I really missed the sounds

I agree! We planned (and programmed!) a whole system to syncronize the game obstacles and sounds to the game music, but we didn't manage to implement sounds before the deadline :/

steffo 2020-10-06 14:44

@mariussomka

> nice meme :):) ofc, great work!

Thanks haha

steffo 2020-10-06 14:46

@duanra:

> But i can’t see all the top and the bottom of the scene at the same time…

What's your screen resolution? The game should be sized 1280x720. Try going in full screen with F11 if you're playing in the browser.

steffo 2020-10-06 15:29

@pleyad:

> I found the button activation a bit weird and annoying, because everything was always moving and it was quite difficult to hit them correctly.

It was one of the experimental mechanics we tried, we wanted it to be kind of similar to clicking the moving circles in osu!...

It probably didn't work out really well, though, if you found it annoying :joy:

steffo 2020-10-06 15:30

@scharma:

> I liked the idea, although the way it was implemented was a bit too trial and error for me. I often had to replay the whole thing because I didn’t quite grasp what the buttons do in time haha.

You can probably cheat with F6 and F7 if you find it too hard :)

steffo 2020-10-06 15:31

@heho:

> I loved the mechanic that the lengths of your jumps depends on the speed at which you are going

I liked designing that puzzle a lot too :)

unluckyninja 2020-10-06 16:12

Control is a a little weird, it jumps at a relatively slow speed but falls very quick. Hard to climb 1 block high. Fail = Replay as a penalty is too heavy. You should probably make player lose some loops instead of kill (like Sonic?) or base on health point when touching the saws. Though I don't know what to do for the chasing laser. Theme seems irrelevant from the jam's perspective. But the level design is pretty good. I didn't expect almost every next puzzle. And having to solve dozens of puzzles in time reminds me of WarioWare.

steffo 2020-10-06 16:22

@unluckyninja:

> Control is a a little weird, it jumps at a relatively slow speed but falls very quick. Hard to climb 1 block high.

If you release up while jumping you fall down faster... You should **Hold ↑** to make higher jumps... Have you tried that? :)

> Fail = Replay as a penalty is too heavy. > You should probably make player lose some loops instead of kill (like Sonic?) or base on health point when touching the saws.

I agree, but time was short and it was either that or absolutely nothing, so we went for that. I love the Sonic rings idea, there's even the similarity with the rings and the loops!

> Theme seems irrelevant from the jam’s perspective.

If you weren't able to jump correctly you might have missed that the levels loop after a while, and you can take different paths there. You can see the "loop-clock" in the upper-right corner.

> And having to solve dozens of puzzles in time reminds me of WarioWare.

The game might have been unconsciously inspired by Wario Land 4, as I love that game, but I didn't think of that explicitly.

_H-h-hurry up!_

unluckyninja 2020-10-06 17:46

@steffo I know I can hold up (I read the description), it's just feel werid comparing to other well-known platformers... Yep because of the difficulty I didn' make it to the later part of the game :P . I will try with the cheat later.

hank-ather 2020-10-06 17:59

Oof, that's hard. The cat is so adorable, and the level manipulation was really neat, if a little esoteric.

viktya 2020-10-06 18:09

@unluckyninja oh no no no you will regret it lmao

You're free to use them, but I think you have more chances to finish it without the "cheats". They really make it harder (at least for me xD), if the scene was intended to go faster or slower, you will feel it. Good luck hehe

mekuri 2020-10-06 18:45

Initially I thought it was 'just another platformer' (Nothing wrong with that), but once I realized the what a big role the interaction with the mouse played, I was kinda blown away. It made for a whole different experience than I expected! I must sadly admit I did not beat the game, but I think I made it quite far. Oh also - Loved the effect with the laser chasing you that the obstacles actually blocked it.

Great job, thanks for sharing!

clode 2020-10-06 20:33

Fun but really hard game. The graphics also look very nice.

joedev 2020-10-06 21:14

Haha, adorable game with a funny concept. Gameplay was innovative, having to use the mouse to activate stuff while platforming was a new but fun challenge. Stressful, frustrating, and enjoyable!

feraligatr 2020-10-06 21:15

Challenging, yet fun. Well thought idea with the switches and platforms.

gzuis 2020-10-06 21:26

Really cool the idea of platforming and quick decision on clicking the right buttons. great job!

eugenik 2020-10-06 21:30

Man, I love this - perfect job on audio!

szatku 2020-10-06 21:50

Audio and graphic are very awsome! Maybe game is a little bit too hard, but is very funny :) Maybe jumping could be more responsible, and more predictable - but maybe for make game more difficult it is ok. 5/5!

cookie-chr 2020-10-08 10:26

@Eugenik, audio actually comes from incompetech.com , but I suppose this means we chose the right soundtrack! :)

tomate-salat 2020-10-08 10:27

Awesome sounds and graphics! The idea with the buttons is quite nice and also that they can be traps. But the "extra-extra-EXTRA" speed thing killed me every time. Once I managed to slow down again, but I was already in another trap and so the laser got me ^^.

johnsensei 2020-10-08 21:19

I think you have the cat-lover and fruit loops loving market cornered with this game. Well done.

dongle 2020-10-09 07:05

Very fun game! I actually played through it a few times.

sli 2020-10-09 21:40

I got only 68 loops. Nice work. I would love to see more levels of that one. I liked how you made some loops impossible to get. Overall great.

pulni 2020-10-12 14:43

Very nicely done in pretty much all aspects! The only thing that's a problem is... that I'm a noob and I can't reach very far. :D Can we have some checkpoints please? :D

samdwester 2020-10-12 21:47

I have acquired many lööps. Fun game!

cookie-chr 2020-10-12 22:10

@samdwester @pulni @sli @dongle Thank you! We are happy to hear you liked the game! :D

steffo 2020-10-13 01:53

@sli wait, that's an unusual and interesting opinion!

Why did you like the impossible loops?

sli 2020-10-13 07:16

Usually when you play Jump&Run games one of the objectives is to collect all items. Thats why I find making collectibles impossible to get interesting. I don't know this for a fact, but in a sense it removes the urgency to collect them all and at the same time if you want to be challenged you still can try take as much as possible.I feel it benefits both type if players.

voidsay 2020-10-13 17:44

original.jpg

Took me a while but I did it! Lööp cat is free once more! I really don't know how you're supposed to collect all the loops, but I wasn't going for them. I constantly keep missing the buttons.

Honestly I can't say much more. Nice graphics and proven gameplay.

schwede 2020-10-15 18:54

What a nightmare for the cat! I hope you don’t put your cats through such exercises? 🤸‍♂️😹🙀

The detailed love to your graphics is a charm. The puzzles got me trapped a couple of times. I stopped to gather the lööps so I could finish the level. It was not enough motivating to pick them up. Maybe with the help of sounds and a nice animation would have motivated me more. Nevertheless, your game feels complete which is a great success! Applause to your submission!

m-dam 2020-10-17 20:58

I like that the cat is literally stuck in a loop. It was a bit too difficult for me.

recher 2020-10-18 22:26

Very cool music. The best I've heard in Ludum Dare Entries so far.

It's a fun idea to control a cat and the factory buttons at the same time.

I managed to go quite far, but I had not the incentive to retry more times, because of the lack of checkpoints. It's a little frustrating to have to restart from the beginning.

nyubi 2020-10-24 08:49

Very cool game, I like the concept especially with the classic j'n'r + controlling the buttons! It might have been a little bit too difficult for me right away; maybe a little less difficult obstacles or a chance to getting to know them with some sort of checkpoints or other "rewards" in between would be an idea for a player like me? The soundtrack is great, I love the baseline!
