LD46 — Keep it alive

Unit 21 by a333 2020-04-22T12:36:16Z

**Aesthetic: ** Loved the art style, really unique and the intro cutscene looked great. Sound effects were nice, could have done with some ambient noise or music though.

**Mechanics: ** The big wave of enemies that spawns towards the end of each level is a great mechanic for keeping you on your toes, but it took me a few resets to realize there was a message/indicator the turn before this happens - would recommend adding some sort of visual indication as well.

A few of the mechanics (like enemy detection range and the ability to hide within houses) could do with a tutorial since I didn't realize they existed until re-reading the game description mid-way through.

**Bugs: ** Had a few minor spawning issues (enemies spawn penned in by rocks so the level is way too easy, houses spawning on top of rocks so they're inaccessible) and thought I was dead on the last level but Unit 21 wouldn't drop below 1% health even when being bombarded by loads of the tank enemies. The game ran really well otherwise though.

**Overall: ** Overall this was super impressive, the core gameplay loop was fun, art and sound really sold it, and I liked the writing for Unit 21 nice job giving it some character. Excited to see where this goes.

Stoker by disperse 2020-04-25T14:02:29Z

The art was great, liked the music as well. Took me a while to realise I couldn't stop the guy on top of the train and had to get the bombs he dropped, spent a while trying to figure out how to get to him.

Solid concept and interesting setting.

Human Spiderweb by miziziziz 2020-04-21T15:50:54Z

Loved the concept, the art fit really well with it and the hunger meter decreased fast enough to really keep you on edge about your movements.

Tethers catching on corners kind of worked for me, added some tension when trying to run for the door and made me think about my character placement - could do with the ability to reel it towards you a bit or something though.

It also wasn't very clear that sacrificing one or two of the bodies was a valid option since you tend to lose pretty fast if one of them dies, so it took me a while to finish the last level.

The pirate detection radius is kind of unclear though and I often had a hard time realizing why I was being seen, as others have mentioned - some sort of field of view indicator would go a long way.

Had one instance of a pirate getting stuck on a corner mid-chase and one instance of a fireball persisting between scene reloads, but overall the game ran well.

The audio lets this down a bit i think, the squelchy SFX were great but some ambient music would really have sold the atmosphere. I had to listen to the last level's voice line about 10-20 times and it got a bit grating - maybe disable it after x amount of restarts?

Overall really impressive for a jam game, would like to see where this goes if you develop it further.

Embers by Anuke 2020-04-23T19:40:10Z

This was incredibly impressive, art, music, and gameplay were all on point.

Perish alive by Lyrcaxis 2020-04-25T13:53:01Z

The graphics were nice, building up sections of the Cogwhale looked really cool as it expanded. The music fit the mood of the game well.

The camera felt quite floaty and a bit uncontrollable at times, and there doesn't seem to be a way to replay other than refreshing the page.

Overall there's some solid core gameplay and this is an impressive jam game, just needs a bit more polish.

Constance by Oakwarrior 2020-04-23T20:23:16Z

This was great, the art is fantastic and the music adds to the tense atmosphere - some solid writing and voice acting as well. The game is hard but not frustrating, really impressive effort in such a small timeframe.

The Stuntman Simulator by Tomas Poblete 2020-04-23T20:01:58Z

Solid gameplay, music was great, particularly liked the transition timed to the homing missile introduction.

Died a lot to the birds when it didn't feel like I should have - maybe a slightly more forgiving hitbox would be better, wasn't very enjoyable when I couldn't see the death coming.

STRAND·ED by S J Palmer 2020-04-23T13:22:24Z

Really cool concept, presented nicely as well.

The last hope by WalterGK 2020-04-22T18:13:05Z

_(Played the browser version since I'm not on Windows)_

The art was great, cool visual style and colour choice - really like the retro fps feel to it. SFX was nice and punchy, music was interesting and upbeat.

An option to change the mouse sensitivity would have been nice as it seemed way too high for me, coupled with the swaying movement this made the controls feel really odd and floaty.

It wasn't super obvious that I needed to protect the plant, an indicator or something visual would be nice to draw the player towards it.

Would also have liked some kind of enemy/damage indicator since those little ground aliens kept attacking me seemingly out of nowhere and it was hard to pinpoint where I was taking damage from.

**Bugs: ** If you spam reload at the start you can decrease the clip count to -3 and then can't reload even after collecting some more clips.

Overall pretty fun to play, its fast paced and the core shooting mechanics are solid and feel good alongside the SFX - nice job.

The Seed of the Universe by RedFusion_Design 2020-04-23T20:36:31Z

Interesting concept, definitely a juggling spinning plates feeling to the gameplay.

Clicking and dragging the icons didn't feel great, especially when they snap back immediately. I think the controls would work better as a clicker-type game.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Nuclear blaze by deepnight 2021-04-27T16:21:14Z

The fire and water graphics are incredibly impressive, the art design in general is fantastic. Loved the way the areas reveal themselves and snake through the background as you progress. The backdraft mechanic was cool but the controls felt a little sluggish overall, especially jumping.

Endoparasitic by miziziziz 2021-04-27T15:46:27Z

Great mechanics (this guy has some insane arm strength to move that fast haha), the gun mechanic was great and incredibly tense, that last level had my hand cramping trying to feverishly empty and reload stuck in the corridor. Awesome bleak/gross atmosphere overall, music might have added a bit more to it, but the silence/ambient noise kind of works to make it feel lonely/tense?

> Retrieve Legs by UC101 2021-04-27T13:48:44Z

- Art (especially the intro) was great. - Lighting and particle effects were really nice, added to the atmosphere. - Movement was a bit fiddly and attacking took a while to get used to, but it felt pretty good once I got the hang of it. - Great enemy variety. - Sound effects were punchy and well varied. - Didn't realize until the 3rd level that the pick was shooting bullets instead of a harmless particle effect. - Music was cool, liked the 2nd spookier track and the boss music a lot. - The boss was really hard to damage, tried kiting the fists towards his face but could never get a hit in.

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-04-27T15:31:54Z

Cool and original idea, great art & music, that last level is reeeeally hard though.

Purgatory by Squeele 2021-04-27T14:14:50Z

- Always grateful for a Linux build :) - Awesome art style - Face generator was cool - Kinda hard to tell what the right option was sometimes, contradicting actions like "cheated on lover" and "faithful to lover" right next to each other.

Wrath of the Stone by squirmonkey 2021-04-27T13:23:11Z

- Nice art style, felt consistent and I liked the earthy colour palette. - The dwarf voice sfx were charming. - Love a good tutorial. - The music speeding up to ramp tension was a nice touch.

- Didn't check the dwarf's intention very much once it got going, too busy trying to spam bombs all over the place. - Possible bug where I had one gem left but the dwarves weren't coming out to get it and the game just sorta softlocked. - The current mana level wasn't super clear at a glance when you're frantically trying to murder dwarves, I like the mana crystal art but I'd like to see a number as well.

Deeper-Geddon by heidelbert 2021-04-27T14:07:22Z

Small bug with the conveyors flashing/overlapping buildings, great game overall though. Art style and music were good, really liked the intro animation/transition.

Psycho Stellar by unplugred 2021-04-28T13:27:30Z

- The design of both the plants and the interior of the ship were great, very colorful with a cool style. - Really liked the music and sound design, low passing the music in camera mode was a nice way to differentiate between the two mechanics. - Controls felt natural and easy to use. - Overall felt very polished and well made.

Going Down in Fishstory by Jonas Tyroller 2021-04-27T16:04:08Z

Awesome graphics, very appropriate sound design and music, the areas felt huge without being so big you get lost and it felt like there was a lot of *depth* to the design. Some very cool environmental storytelling/environment transitions, and I really liked the little extra area around half-way through with the two circling worm fish things that was a nice touch.

Hot Rods: Highway to Rod by robokarla 2021-04-27T16:39:39Z

Interesting mechanic and good dialogue, I'd space the dialogues during the gameplay out a bit more though it got repetitive having them cycle through after every shot. Had some minor issues with the camera being blocked by higher up blocks, but overall it was an interesting game with a fun mechanic, chill music, and cool art.

Cliffhanger by Lamamour 2021-04-28T13:53:10Z

Very cool mechanic with the reflection aiming and using your own platform as ammo for a risk vs reward mechanic, overall a well polished and fun game - great job!

Tiny Drop by JasonQ 2021-04-27T16:29:40Z

Nice game, mechanics are good but the jumping height feels a bit inconsistent at times between jumping manually and hitting a rock.

Jungle Navigator by lemonsaurus 2021-04-28T13:35:15Z

Fun dialogue and good art, would have preferred to restart from the previous location on death instead of starting over but other than that good job.

LD49 — Unstable

II-III-V by miziziziz 2021-10-06T17:43:53Z

Super tense and original control scheme that added to the mood, nice worldbuilding and great atmosphere. Awesome game - could have maybe done with a headphone warning for the end though since the rest of the game was pretty quiet in comparison.

Interstellar Highway Robbery by Corny 2021-10-06T17:52:41Z

Awesome aesthetic, this game has a really well polished art style. The ship controls are really fun as a contrast to the shooting, I like how the cargo ships duck and weave out of your way that's a nice touch.

Only issues were the lack of audio, and that the fonts are a bit hard to read/instructions disappear too quickly.

Great work!

PRISM by Gat 2021-10-06T10:24:09Z

This is awesome, the art is fantastic, the music is catchy and fits the mood of the game, the sound design was nice and made all the switches feel heavy and clunky - really placed them in the world for me.

The prism mechanic took a while to click for me possibly because the wave for the blue switch on the prism graph looks a bit like a black line which threw me off a bit? Interesting gameplay that felt tense and well balanced, my only issue is that the win and load screens just showed a white or red square over half the screen for a few seconds before reloading, not sure if this is a bug or just unfinished but a win/lose screen would have been nice.

Trauma by AdamCYounis 2021-10-06T11:46:06Z

Great, interesting main mechanic - felt very satisfying to chain the moves together as you got more of them. Fantastic art direction and sound design, great writing and really solid mood throughout.

Only found one incredibly minor nitpick in that the text would flash the full string before animating, but that didn't even really distract from how awesome this turned out.

Erosion by ChewieCB 2021-10-06T13:12:29Z

@aidan-and-seb yeah we would have added a proper tutorial and some more difficulty re-balancing given the time, but that's game jams for ya.

@pablo-lario there is actually coyote time in the code but there's a known issue where it tends to be inconsistent, just ran out of time to fix it in the jam unfortunately.

@python-b5 the camera clipping through walls is a known issue we just had to live with for submission, in the end it was either have a camera that controls accurately but has no collision or a camera with collision that tends to bug out and get stuck in annoying places - so we went with what felt better.

thanks for playing :)

Erosion by ChewieCB 2021-10-06T13:17:43Z

**Bonus content:**

We had to cut the awesome original player models Owlmoss made due to our animation workflow breaking on us right at the end, but I do love this rigging glitch

run_glitch.gif

Erosion by ChewieCB 2021-10-06T13:41:36Z

@stroe-andrew ah, unfortunately this is due to macOS not recognizing the file attributes. If you're feeling techy you should be able to fix this yourself by running this command in terminal to clear the file attributes:

`sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /path/to/game/executable.app`

Not the easiest setup I know, but I don't have a mac computer to hand to fix this properly atm :(

An oddly SATISFYING game by Duck Reaction 2021-10-06T18:06:09Z

Lovely minimalist look, the easing on the block animations felt really nice. Really liked the ascending and descending tones the blocks gave off as you moved them up or down, and the music fit the mood perfectly - simple but hypnotic. The progression was good at gradually ramping up the complexity and I'd be interested to see some more levels added in the future.

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-06T11:31:50Z

Awesome idea, really fun core loop with some solid sound design, unique art style, and addictive gameplay.

Not sure if it was just the web version but aiming felt a bit choppy sometimes, the mouse sensitivity is also quite high so I would have appreciated a sensitivity slider.

Overall a really nice, well polished game with a breakneck pace and entertaining premise.

Bad Magic! by MorePixels 2021-10-06T10:44:32Z

Nice work! The art was really nice, good sound design and chill music. The completing orders mechanic was solid and made up for a fun core loop.

Some small issues: - the icon for the berry ingredient for the potions is confusing and makes it seem like you need to use the raw berries instead of cooking them, I'd change it to the cooked version to be more clear since I tried several times before I read a comment here that clarified how to do it. - once the cauldron explodes from the wrong ingredients there doesn't seem to be a way to get it back? so you just end up wandering around until the timer runs down, I'd either show a level failed screen here or allow the player to refill the cauldron at the cost of extra time - as others have said, waiting for the timer to run down feels a bit aimless once you've reached the score target - maybe add an optional "end level" trigger once the player has reached the score goal if they want to go to the next level, or let theme score above the goal to incentivize them to keep making potions once they've hit the goal?

Orchaostra by Bruno Cafe 2021-10-06T17:59:48Z

Art was fantastic, gameplay loop was fun and got really intense really quickly, the music itself was nice but tended to stutter/go out of sync with the note inputs - unsure if this was me running the game emulated via Wine or not though since the web browser version seemed to have similar issues.

Overall great job! :)

LIFE|DEATH by Sockenpuppe 2021-10-06T10:30:32Z

Art was nice and consistent to a theme, loved the use of physics objects flying around that was a nice touch.

The tank controls made the game quite hard, and the music/background noise loop was a bit too short so felt kinda repetitive. Some sound effects for feedback when you've dropped the ghosts off in the spiral would help since it's not entirely clear when you're close enough.

Overall a good core idea that just needs a bit more polish :)

Watch my nucleus by Aquilart 2021-10-06T10:53:12Z

Really cool premise well executed, great job!

The voice acted tutorial was a nice touch, even if I did immediately feel overwhelmed by how rapidly things spiraled out of control haha. Nice driving music that made me feel very focused, good sound design on the particles, some nice designs on the particles themselves as well, simple but clean with a clear differentiation between particle types.

My only real issues are that the voice lines can overlap the subtitles if you click too fast, and that the game was pretty hard even on easy - though the chaotic feel really connected it to the theme.

Where's My Tripod? by Pixelydian 2021-10-06T10:04:14Z

Great art, unique concept well executed, the sound design was excellent, and overall a very nice, chilled out game. Great job!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

I'm Not A Robot by Turkey 2022-04-05T13:54:32Z

Really interesting take on the jam, mad how adding time pressure made captchas so addictive haha. Minor note but I wish the text boxes were focused and ready for input as they appear so I can just rapid-type. Great job!

Kiwis Can't Fly by DDRKirbyISQ 2022-04-13T22:23:23Z

Such a good game, absolutely loved how hitting different things played musical stings in time with the music and changed timbre based on the type of obstacle, the art, mood and sound design was impeccable. Amazing job!

Flooded Caves by nusan 2022-04-07T12:29:11Z

Really cool mechanic, well implemented and nice water physics. Loved the art style, felt very polished. Great job!

Like Rabbits by ruthiepee 2022-04-09T15:28:51Z

Great spin on the theme, love the art and how everything rapidly spirals out of control. Great job!

Super addictive, really chill music

Ludum Distractio by PhilStrahl 2022-04-05T11:19:43Z

Love the art style, sound, and the whole idea! Ran into a few small issues such as finicky click zones (especially the watering can/plant) and the door opening into another door? The code was fun to read, though I wish you could use the scroll wheel to scroll through the code as I would often find myself overshooting and missing bugs.

Great job!

The Sea Won't Stop by m11 2022-04-05T17:08:47Z

Short but fun, well written and funny, great job!

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-05T16:31:25Z

Really cute game, feels really chill until the weeds start getting out of control! Found it a bit hard to hit the exact square I wanted, felt like i was always one off. Great work!

Great art, cool interpretation of the theme - would have liked to see some sfx/music though. Nice work!

Glub-Glubmarine by Frocto 2022-04-05T12:14:55Z

Took some time to figure out but a fun little puzzle! Nice job, very tense when going deeper down with the water rising.

Amazing experience, so chill, love the room transition effect - really dreamlike.

Settlers & Prophecies by Chocolat-Endive 2022-04-13T22:44:06Z

Chill and fun gameplay, I liked the sketch/watercolour style art in combination with the music it really built an engaging mood. Would like to see this expanded further with some more functionality outside of the jam, great job!

Estrella by Xiris 2022-04-05T17:06:56Z

Solid gameplay (very stressful sometimes hah), nice art design, well polished overall. The sound effects were a little loud imo, but otherwise great job!

Imposter Syndrome Surgeon by kason.xiv 2022-04-05T13:58:06Z

Great idea for a game! Love the spin on a typing game. Art and sound were fun and created a solid, lighthearted mood. Would like to see more of this, nice job!

Quota Qrunch by macs 2022-04-05T12:05:01Z

This was great! The 2D on 3D artstyle worked super well, the dialogue and story was funny and to the point, nice interpretation of the theme.

Great story, writing, and acting. Loved that outro song!

Battery Low by Milestone Games 2022-04-05T15:52:50Z

Fantastic art and colour palette, sound design was great - really made the rover endearing. I like that the previous trackmarks remained on each run so you could see the paths you had taken to guide yourself. Great job!

Cat in the Bag by JoshH 2022-04-07T12:43:51Z

The art is great and the writing is funny, great job this was a really fun entry :)

Volcano by ABRDs 2022-04-05T17:31:52Z

Great game, loved the katamari-style gameplay and how cute the volcano was. Was very chill to just roll stuff around the island. Had some issues rolling the boulders as they tended to flicker and block your view, I really liked how the sky colour darkened and got redder over time though. Awesome job!

1 Man 6 Bullets by Raphaeltan 2022-04-07T16:05:53Z

What a fantastic game, everything feels incredibly polished and crunchy - gameplay loop is really satisfying and a cool idea! Amazing job!

Highrail to hell by BadPiggy 2022-04-07T12:21:27Z

Really solid and well polished entry, left me wanting more! I like how you telegraphed the zombie's attacks with the red circle, definitely some trial and error but alternating dodging through and attacking felt very fun once I got the hang of it. Just wish it was longer really.

5 More Minutes by Sam Horner 2022-04-13T22:16:08Z

A simple idea well executed, the art was great and you did a great job of piling on more pressure as the game went on. Found the blinds slightly unwieldy to close sometimes, but overall great job!

Jam Time! by bigassopper 2022-04-05T16:56:32Z

Really fun, loved the upgrades system. Great art, the whole game feels very polished. The background music loop could be a bit longer imo, nice work!

Very Long Spell by NotUsername 2022-04-05T16:38:03Z

This is fantastic, really well polished, all the spells feel like they have a punch to them and I love the music combined with the fast paced nature of the game! Laser beam seems a little OP being able to shoot through walls, there was definitely some turtling strategy going on haha - amazing work!

Somnipathy by Cyzaine 2022-04-05T14:09:37Z

Great visuals, very creepy. Really well polished overall, great job!

Cup Half Full by BangTheWall 2022-04-05T16:04:30Z

Really difficult but a unique and fun spin on tetris! Well polished and consistent art. Great job!

Death's Gambit by osh.studio 2022-04-11T15:16:14Z

Cool concept well executed, the art was great and the gameplay was fun and definitely fit the theme. I do wish that the player could look around ahead of them to scope out powerups though as it felt like I was running blind or didn't know where the reaper was coming from at the start; also running through 2 powerups in one move only gives the player the first one but removes the 2nd one from play which felt a bit annoying.

Overall great job! Would love to see this expanded upon with more powerups/gameplay elements :)

The Fire Will Die by PolymathLD 2022-04-05T11:47:34Z

Great art direction, solid mood and excellent writing! Really satisfying to hit the wolves with rocks the sound design added a lot of punch. Great job!

Nightwaker by Bottled up Dark Peace 2022-04-05T16:51:23Z

Blood Crux by Dmitry Kaidash 2024-10-08T22:30:01Z

Really nice looking and tonally consistent graphics, love the bat flocking and the grave leaderboard system that was really cool.

Three Tiny Toblins by NightmaresDev 2024-10-08T22:53:47Z

Love how each character is full of personality which the art and the voice acting really help to sell. Some music would have helped build more of an atmosphere. Encountered a few bugs around switches remaining pressed after a reset, hitting buttons from below, and one bug where pushing a box onto Kort clips him into the platform geometry. A solid puzzle platformer overall, good job!

G-news by Aune 2024-10-08T18:57:51Z

Love it! A simple loop that's super polished and fun, great soundtrack, great art, all round fantastic effort.

ECHOES OF THE GNOMES by meylish 2024-10-08T22:38:16Z

Good sound design and building of atmosphere, art was really well executed and I liked the intro slides. The gameplay was quite slow though would have liked to see more gnome types maybe in a fuller release.
