LD38 — A Small World

Stellar Twist by rojo 2017-05-18T05:54:00Z

One of my favourite entry! But: WHERE IS THE LAST STARDUST?! :D The concept is very nice and addictive. With more time to spare, you could make more worlds to introduce the mechanic or add even more mechanics. To make it a little bit less frustrating - speeking of those bushes ;) - please reveal the last stardusts on the map after some time.

Well done!

Blomst 🌻 by Ava Skoog 2017-04-25T18:44:51Z

The art is very nicely done. Game is pretty polished. Game mechanics are simple but fun. It relaxed me a little bit :)

Routine by Breno_M 2017-05-04T19:59:55Z

Never experienced such a game mechanic. Very nice presentation, best in Compo so far! In the future you could do more missions, add police officers, or multiple meetings in a certain order. In addition you could provive a tutorial for new players.

The Seesaw Redemption by Headmade 2017-05-14T19:08:21Z

Nice little game and challenge :)

Six Degrees of Separation Between Me and the Party by axoona 2017-04-29T09:20:26Z

This game is really entertaining! Graphics are lovely and suitable for this type of game. Keep up the good work :)

Anthill Multitask by Asturk 2017-05-14T17:32:14Z

Great game to exercise multitasking skills. Great tutorial and smooth transition from easy to hard mode. Well done! :)

Murder 38 - Episode One: A Small World by rodobodolfo 2017-05-02T18:54:14Z

This game is so much fun to play. I like this genre very much. Overall very nice implementation. Perhaps you can do some postprocessing (darker, flimmering screen or add a vignette or sth. like that) and add some more soundtracks to create more mood. Very nice entry!

A Small Planet by rayriver 2017-05-14T12:56:56Z

Excellent kind of metroidvania level design. Gameplay mechanics are very rewarding. Very good!

Hibernaculum by redpanda 2017-04-29T09:04:31Z

Idea is amazing. Great graphics, sadly the music doesn't loop. Gameplay is acceptable, please tweak collision detection so it is more forgiveable. Can be frustrating :) All in all very nice!

Super Tiny Adventure Game by sinclairstrange 2017-04-28T14:24:07Z

Very nice game. A little bit inspired by sonic i guess. Very good gameplay, graphics and music. Just awesome.

Flicker of Hope by Lucas Ferrantelli 2017-05-14T13:40:10Z

Pretty solid entry. I agree with @owc you need a better way to introduce the gameplay mechanics. Overall awesome entry!

Tiny Tony by Firewill 2017-04-29T09:42:52Z

The idea is very nice and fits the theme quite well. In the beginning i could not figure out the player character. After some time i recognized a tiny ball :) Steering of said ball is difficult but manageable. It was difficult to see the current angle of the tabletop. Perhaps another representation of the angles (like a windrose or sth.) would help! The end was brutal. I managed to get him into the lighthouse, after 100x trying the bridge passage :D

Overall very nice game. Gameplay and Leveldesign got to be polished to not frustrate players.

Drifting away by Nimbus 2017-05-14T14:06:35Z

Nice first entry! Game is very challenging. Could not reach checkpoint #5 by my own :D

The Robot's Trial by citsua 2017-05-10T19:19:13Z

This game reminds me a little bit of the zelda series. It's a nice little game to play around with the implemented mechanics. Controls need a little more polish. Overall good entry to showcase your mechanics!

Bubbletoy by jorjordandan 2017-05-10T18:56:57Z

This game is so much fun. Hilarious how the controls are working. Very very good entry. Sound, GFX, Gameplay and Humor 10/10!

LD-38 SUPER SMALL WORLDS by elZach 2017-05-03T18:24:35Z

Weird an fun to play little game! Good compo entry! Your graphic assets got their own unique style. Controls got to be tweaked. Music totally supports the general mood of your game.

Planet Taxi by Marin0104 2017-04-26T11:24:48Z

Hey Teslov,

thank you for your comment. You are right, the gps is not working well. I figured out a fix that i will implement until friday. I am very happy that you enjoyed playing the game :)

Cheers Marin

Planet Taxi by Marin0104 2017-04-30T18:44:35Z

@elzach and @huvaakoodia Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it. I see, i've got to tweak the difficulty and solve the gimbal lock problem as well...

Planet Taxi by Marin0104 2017-05-04T19:16:27Z

@erik-brunnstorm @richard-michael-smith @nonameghost @d3zmodus : First of all thank you very much for your feedback. I apologize for the bugs i was not able to fix in the last week, because of my daily work. My plan is to fix these bugs during the next week. Hopefully i can provide you a more convenient version to play :)

Overall i am very happy that you enjoy my vision of a low poly taxi driver on a small planet ;) Thank you very much and please stay tuned :)

Cubic Explorer by glitchy-pixel 2017-05-10T18:49:37Z

Hey there,

the gameplay mechanics are very interesting and innovative. Graphics and sound are doin' just fine. It's very difficult, but not impossible to beat the game ;)

LD39 — Running out of Power

VoltRush by Reiv 2017-08-07T19:15:05Z

@philstrahl: omg, thank you for giving me that screenshot to solve that mystery :)

@reiv: Your entry is a very nice one! Despite the above issue that makes me to put it down, it is a really solid and fun to play platformer! Definitely one of my favourite games so far!

Yet Another Exhausted Day by Gao Ming 2017-08-03T20:40:04Z

Hilarious game! I guess there will be a sequel or a full version available in the future? I have seen this game in the early phase of the LD and since then i was so curious about your game. You did not let me down - great work. The "L"- level was very unforgiving, but i made it after a couple of tries

Power Play by reuno 2017-08-03T19:46:54Z

Great entry. Finally a sports game :) It remembered me a little bit of EAs FIFA games. I was in the same mood, as if i played some soccer in the training area of a FIFA game. So great work there! I do like to have some more abilities, like a jump or just to kick the ball :)

All in all one of the very best entries i have played so far!

Inhouse Baristas by Marin0104 2017-07-31T23:49:44Z

Please check again :) Think you for telling me!

Inhouse Baristas by Marin0104 2017-08-02T07:47:08Z

@togis: Thank you very much for playing it! Your work is awesome :)

@all: Thank you all for your feedback. It helps me a lot to be a better gamedeveloper! I really appreciate it.

My first take away is: I missed a crucial point: Telling the gamer **what** and **how** to do things in the game. For the next ludum dare, i will make it a key point in developing the next game. In the next weeks i will improve the usability of this game, so i can teach myself how i can accomplish that.

In the meantime i will provide you a little guide in the description.

THIRST by Togis 2017-08-03T19:30:34Z

I think you have mixed a variety of gameplay mechanics together to a very delicious peace of cake err... game :) I like your entry very much. It is a very solid polished game! But i do concern the same thing @jusw85 mentioned in the post above me. Sometimes i got tiles that were very unfair, so i got stuck although my choices in the earlier game were not pure madness :) Perhaps you could implement an algorithm that checks the existing paths to avoid too much tiles that causes "dead ends".

In addition: Thank you very much for playing my game "Inhouse Baristas". Your gameplay video helped me a lot to understand what i did wrong in the development phase. Now i know on what i do have to focus even more for the next LD. Btw, if you remember my game and are interested in how to play this game exactly - take a look again at my game page. I already updated the description.

Cheers :)

P.S.: Unfortunaly in my office do not work a barista. We still got to make the coffe by ourselfs :(

Plug Me by hav24 2017-08-02T19:36:15Z

Very impressive game. Have seen it on Togis Twitch stream yesterday and instantly bookmarked it. Art style, music and gameplay perfectly fit together. I played it through with 87 deaths

To make this game even more complete you should add a story. But this is just a nice to have for a jam and a polished game like this!

Indiana Stones by Akshay Katare 2017-08-05T07:29:18Z

Graphics and animations are decent. Controls are a bit laggy - perhaps look at the way to blend over to the punch animation. I think you can tweak it there to make it a bit more snappy. Often items just disappear, although i saw them just for one second on the screen. This is a bit frustrating. Gameplay improvements can be to change the goal from: live as long as possible to reach the treasure (indiana style ). Perhaps you had that already in mind and ran out of time, just like me... :)

All in all solid work for a jam!

Scale of Life by ilya_kozlov 2017-08-06T14:40:48Z

Nice and solid game! In the beginning i had no clue when i had to press space exactly. After a few tries i've figured it out. Player should have inifite amount of tries, although he is able to press the space button very early over and over again. Their might be an issue to deal with. Perhaps the player gets another try if he did a "great" or "perfect" job?

Night Driver by nbitsstudio 2017-08-06T17:25:34Z

Great graphics and sound! The mood is fantastic. I think you can improve the race track by removing those edges of the buildings. If the player lost control over his car he gets easily stuck because of those edges. A bit frustrating though.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Holiday Parking Panic! by FormalCloud 2017-12-05T21:50:32Z

Lovely entry! I like the christmas setting - i did a christmas like game too :) Concept is well known and a very fun to play. Thing i don't like is the sluggish movement of the car if the speed is near zero. I do know that "in the real" world it is like that, but i feel a bit loose of control of my car if things are getting real tight  Overall it is a very nice entry and will make it in the top 15, i guess...

Over Learn by mkcactus 2017-12-05T21:20:43Z

This is an interesting entry. In the beginning i took every task and pressed complete. But this caused many unforeseen problems  I was not quite sure why i lost the game. Perhaps you could display the homework on a timeline to visualize it a bit better. Overall it is a very solid and polished entry!

The Darkest Light by zblah 2017-12-07T20:19:03Z

First, thanks for playing and rating my game! :) This entry is an entry with the best mood i've played so far. The idea is great and well implemented. I've enjoyed playing it! With a bit polish this could be a title to throw money at :) For example you could build in some more elements of Dark Souls. I immediately was remembered of this title by your entry. Good job!

Slightly annoying traffic by JOrbits 2017-12-05T20:29:25Z

Very fun to play! I wish there would be more car types :) It has a lot of potential for going on mobile devices like a tablet.

Dog-Off! by BrothersT 2017-12-05T20:44:34Z

This is a really nice entry. I think it will be one of the best, despite the relatively complicated controls. But i must say the controls do have a pattern  The game is a great exercise in doing parallel activities.

Reindeer Runner by Marin0104 2017-12-05T22:05:42Z

@PixelFormedStudios I found this 8-bit track on soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/fco_rmz/03-jinge-bells-8bit-version and fell in love immediately :D So, props for this guy :)

Thanks for your ratings so far

Bobby's awful idea by Drakncel 2017-12-05T21:06:00Z

I really like this entry. The idea is great an perfectly fits the theme. I was not sure if i should react to every bubble above the party guests heads and if i should clean up all the plastic cups on the floor. I really wanted to clean up all things on the ground :D In addition it was unclear for me, if any cleanup actions benefits the messupmeter. Perhaps you could clarify that. Great job!

Mortal Komba by kokirisandfriends 2017-12-05T21:33:36Z

This is an insanely good entry. It is so much fun and challenging! The polish is real, really good job. The mechanic is so easy to understand but so difficult to master (i've got 30 jumps) that is brilliant.

LD42 — Running out of space

Passengers Tetris by Gao Ming 2018-08-15T18:03:30Z

This game is just insane, so much fun and so much quality. I ended up with 49 Points  Me two was a little bit confused in the beginning, when i had 3 heads matching in a row but nothing happened. But i think it is a good design decision to implement this behavior!

Where Stars Belong by NORRIMO 2018-08-15T17:51:22Z

Very nice graphics and mood. But i did not get the goal of your game, despite i've understood your message  . What am i supposed to do at the top of the blue structure? I've just fired a lot of stars

In the end, very relaxing gameplay and a nice experience.

Get Off My Lawn by silkworm_sweatshop 2018-08-15T17:37:09Z

Your approach to deal with the theme is very nice. I like the mood and humor in your game, especially that each enemy has its own characteristic behavior (i laughed out loud at the Yoga Woman  ). I survived 51 waves btw....

I think there is a problem when the space to guard the lawn from enemies gets really small (just 2-3 fields). You do not have to get away, just scream them of your lawn. So in theory you might not get to the Game Over Screen.

EVOLUTION by Noa Calice 2018-09-03T17:43:00Z

Hey there, i really like your game - or should i say "distopia simulator" ;) Well crafted, just a minor glitch - but already covered in the comments i guess. The sounds and the face of the earth really touches me. Well done!

Overflow by antoined73 2018-08-15T17:24:07Z

I really love the way you took the challenge to design something that does fit the theme very well and use an uncommon mechanic to reduce the space (in terms of this jam).

Graphics and the behavior of the boat are excellent.

Born to jump by Blix 2018-08-17T12:10:57Z

Hey there, i like the idea of this game. But it is way too hard to beat. I cannot pass the third level, not because i am lazy  - it's because the arms and legs just move too slow or i could not select it properly (even in your trailer you couldn't ). My first idea to cope with it is, just let the user select the body part and press a key to adjust it's angle. So it would be way more effective

It is a very nice submission with a lot potential!

L: An Interactive Mystery by Cercle 2018-08-17T13:05:03Z

Hello there, this game has the best mood and voice acting i've ever witnessed in a LD. Storytelling is excellent. The end gave me goosebumps. Very well engineered. Thank you very much for making this, i am looking forward to your next one!

Inner Space by Sengi 2018-08-15T18:10:52Z

Really touching mood. The graphics, sound and the idea are amazing. The screenshake when you bang your head against the wall works excellent to transfer the mood of the game. I did enjoy your second last game already and i think you can implement a dark mood very well. I like the combination of 2D with the 3D space, like in octopath traveler. You did a great job there!

Red Square by tetra 2018-08-17T12:00:19Z

Best puzzle game so far! I really like the idea and especially the competition. Graphics and sounds do fit the purpose of this game. I really enjoyed playing it!

Will Survive by foxserranu 2018-08-15T19:05:20Z

Hey there, i think @memel06 wrapped it up quite nicely. I want to add that your narrative is simple but very effective. You could make a story out of it, if you can invent some more game mechanics like hunting and/or cooking, building defense and so on

Save the sheep by Zlabya 2018-08-15T18:29:48Z

Very nice idea and simple but effective implementation! I've enjoyed playing it, although the last minutes i did not rescued any sheep cause they were dead immediately after they spawned

Keep up your good work!

No Place To Die by ZephyrExtreme 2018-08-15T18:21:12Z

Hey there, i think you did a nice job! Graphics and sound are very well made and chosen. But the screenshake and blur are just too heavy. I cannot play this game without getting crazy  Your controls are, in my opinion, not very intuitiv. I did not expext the behavior of movement in the way it is implemented. Although it makes sense, if you look from the ego perspective of your playercharacter.

I had to laugh when i saw the dancing dude in the main menu

Crumble by anstabo 2018-08-15T18:53:35Z

This game is sooo awesome! Everything is excellent. In the beginning i thought, i have to make it as fast as possible to the other side... But then i noticed how this really works and could not quit the game until i've finally beaten it! The ending is very hilarious and made me laugh

Thank you for making this game!

Boxed by Devio 2018-08-15T19:14:41Z

Hey there, your first entry for ludum dare is just fine! I had trouble to figuring out how to move the boxes, too like @hare-software. In your next game, try to focus not only on the gameplay but to improve the user experience. I've made that mistake in my third last entry for ludum dare.

Keep up working on your skills and i am sure it will turn into something great

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Omelettes by stevenjmiller 2018-12-08T11:09:34Z

Your idea is very unique and hilarious in a positive way  I like it! What i do not like are the graphics, in specific the way you represented the different heights. Sometimes I could barely get used to it, what height which tile is. That made the game more difficult it has to be.

FTD : Fixin' to Die by nuclearfriend 2018-12-08T10:52:09Z

Wow, amazing concept and implementation. I like the art style so much. I thought of a game covering the triage too. You did a very good interpretation of that theme.

Save & sacrifice by deepnight 2018-12-04T09:35:56Z

Wow, that was fun! Incredible polished, best game i've played so far.

The Sacrificial Trail by PhilStrahl 2018-12-09T16:17:10Z

Hey Phil,

your writing is very good. The beginning was emotional and my imagination did the rest! Your idea and implementation is unique.

What the game is missing are some nice graphics :) Like a comment above, just a car - moving - then a fade out, little graphic of the upcoming event (for example a gas station)... This would crank up the mood so much more :)

I am curious how you did came up with that idea - i think, i just have to wait for your next post mortem video

Good job Phil, looking forward to the next LD!

The Path of Sacrifices by Marin0104 2018-12-08T11:35:54Z

Thank you so much for your feedback!

I think i should write a statement about the graphics: These are the standard assets of the rpg maker vx ace light. I do opted in into the graphics category, because i do think that composing art (tiles, characters and so on) is also a very challenging task. In my last game for LD i did opted out in graphics, because i used graphics from different free to use graphic packs. A comment about asking why i did opted out for the graphics despite the composition of those assets was well made, let me thinking. How should i handle it the next LD?

The most time and effort for me were two things: Composition and writing/puzzle creation. With the light version of the rpg maker program, i had only very few choices on how to composite my game to satisfy my story. I search couple of hours for alternatives in the www for more tiles to use - but in the end it was a waste of time. I believe, sometimes to get more out of your creative mind - do limit yourself to the resources you already have. That helped me a lot!

Please let me know what you think about it. Thanks!

The Path of Sacrifices by Marin0104 2018-12-13T15:34:32Z

Thank you for your feedback, i really appreciate it!

@samh If you remember the passages, where the king asks Prof. Sheldon where the next altar is: At this point i actually wanted the player to guess the location. But i didn't manage it in time. A very simple solution would have been to make multiple choices the player one can choose from. I planned to remember if you could solve the little riddle and let it count at some points in the history. Actually the king asks three times, if you do not know the answer  After the third attempt, the king presents the player the solution. So there is no frustration to not know the right answer.

I do think about getting a license for the rpg maker. With the light edition i only have 10 events for each map. That is a very harsh limitation, if you use a lot of objects the player should interact with

Soul Clicker by Roland De Tomasi 2018-12-04T09:20:46Z

Hey there, that is a nice clicker game! It seems to be that the difficulty does not increase over time. That is critical for the overall gameplay feeling, because why spend more souls if you do not need the additional demons?

Tezcacoatl's Dance Dance Paradise by numeralien 2018-12-08T11:02:22Z

I enjoyed playing your game. Volcano and game mechanics are nice. What i don't like is, that sometimes, even the arrow is about half of it's size in the circle, the game does not accept my button press. I was quite often too early, misguided by the arrow. Perhaps you could tweak that a litte. Overall a very solid and fun to play game!

Total Party Kill by adventureislands 2018-12-08T10:18:09Z

This game is so amazing. I thought immediately of Trine and Towerfall! The game mechanics are superb. Indication is: You can solve your puzzles on different ways  You can either shoot your heroes to a location with the rogue, smash them to make some ground or you just freeze and shoot them then to your desired location. The mechanics are simple to understand but you can combine them to achieve some great combinations of complexity to solve the puzzle - just pure genius. This is so much fun!

Mr. Island by Jantaaa 2018-12-09T16:44:36Z

I really enjoyed your game! After 5 minutes, i have figured out how to keep a nice balance, so the game difficulty could have been increased - but it did not happen. Maybe add some bigger fish to the game :) The music stopped playing after a couple of minutes.

Anyways, very nice game!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Bob and Plantboy by Pete 2020-05-09T19:54:09Z

Really nice game! I do like the mechanics and the shooting sound . What i don't like is the fact, that the insects can fly behind the outer walls. So you are not able to hit them.

Dragon Eggs: Greatest Hits Edition by Shaolin Dave 2020-05-10T07:29:24Z

Hey @shaolin-dave! I have already voted your game, but you asked me to notify you as soon as my game (Protect the torch) has an update  I've just released yesterday a big update. So if you are still interested i'd be happy if you do.

Protect The Torch! by Marin0104 2020-04-21T07:37:39Z

Hey @abdurrahman-khallouf, thank you for your feedback. We have raised the timer up to 20 minutes!

Protect The Torch! by Marin0104 2020-04-22T07:02:32Z

Hey guys, thank you very much for your feedback!

@nonon i absolutly agree with you. We should have made more, smaller levels to teach the player how it is done. We underestimated level design quite a bit. We were stuck with makeing the enemy-blob as a rigid body, instead of a kinematic body, so he does automatically behaves like a physical object. That was a mistake  I don't know too much about the rules, but maybe refactoring the current level into smaller ones, would be against the rules. But to make it actually playable, it should be done... We thought that a long level with smaller obstacles in the beginning, would make sense - but the learning curve is too steep. There was too little time left, but that is how a game jam works  We'll learn from it and make it better next time.

@historymaker118 yes we do plan to take 2-3 more days polishing the game, to fix these issues. We do love the concept and want to implement our vision to play this game together. Only the village/level persistent. This is why we added the screen @shaolin-dave posted. We wanted to create a small village with villagers - the players, your friends, too make a little community. The players can run the game on their own, but only see the items, their friends has left in the level. And then they try to solve the level together. We had more items and obstacles in our mind, to make more use of the items - even to build puzzles which can be solved in very creative ways.

@shaolin-dave we'll try our best to reproduce this. Have you resetted the game and tried to place the box after the first jump to climb the first wall? Thank's a lot for playing and reporting!

snakebite by mmemim 2020-04-23T20:40:41Z

The quality of your assets are insane. The mood was on point! I hoped for some kind of and end after some minutes - maybe for another story part to keep the interest in playing the game  Fantastic job!

God Save the CHRIST! by Gogani 2020-05-10T15:14:38Z

Best game so far. Epic, seriously

Living Light by zubspace 2020-05-09T20:01:14Z

This game is very nice and well polished, had a blast! As far as i can tell audio 2D should work, at least for me. Just make sure to use the right audio streamer node and have everything inside Node2Ds

Spatious Inc. by Svyatoslav 2020-05-03T09:19:53Z

I agree with @tobiasw, it is really hard to gather all the information you need at a glance to play the game. The graphics are very nice!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Space Loop Kit by Marin0104 2020-10-09T15:22:53Z

Hey guys, thank you for your nice feedback!

@doot thank you for pointing the bugs out. I've noticed some of them. I'll try to find some time to fix the bugs, add a better explanation what to do and maybe give the player more time in the beginning before starting the combat.

I think i'll balance it a bit more @fadrikalexander  I try to shovel some free time so i can improve the game a bit more.

Space Loop Kit by Marin0104 2020-10-22T13:20:16Z

Thanks for your comments! Appreciate them.

@tuatarian it's not against the rules to patch bugfixes or tweak some things, as long as you can download the original version and have a changelog. I've followed a lot of discussions on that topic in the past Jams  Will try my best for the next time to keep the post jam changes as small as possible

@lilou-cormic you can download the original version, the current version is played automatically in the browser. So i am compliant with the rules. But i've got to admit that i could make it much more clearer! Will do for the next time

LD49 — Unstable

Raiders of the lost gems by Domantas 2021-10-11T17:51:30Z

Hey there, i had a blast playing it. I think i didn't spend that much time on any other game her at ldjam, except mine  The puzzles are built very well. Mechanics are working flawlessly and nice together. Regarding the graphics, yes they are working but i'd suggest you have a look into spritestacking, then you can even rotate your map with roughly the same aestatics (i have done this in my game for the first time, really nice effect).

Clay Boy by davision 2021-10-05T15:48:05Z

Hey there, thank's for that very interesting funny game! I've played it a couple of minutes and made it really far. But i don't really feel the controls, a lot happened by accident what made the game really funny  Really nice graphics and character design, improve the controls to let the player be more in control of the character and i think there can be many interesting experiences and puzzle made!

Trailer Trials by thomz12 2021-10-10T06:36:37Z

Hey there, you have done a very nice job. I was "in da zone" driving this truck backwards into that tiny parking space  On my machine i've experienced some flickering, so the tile's borders were "visible". Do some more polishing and this is a great game for mobile and for small breaks. Thank's for sharing!

Unstable Stick by joewan 2021-10-05T07:41:50Z

I have made it to the checkpoint where you have to jump little platforms that are very far from each other. The elevator was quite hard to do, but it was fun! Very nice game, saw the concept often on twitter in the last weeks. This one is a very good and balanced implementation!

Unrogue by ccglp 2021-10-06T19:45:05Z

Hey there! The concept is interesting to explore it even more! I think if you get more in touch with Godot and keep working on getting into it, i bet you can make a very nice game with this concept or at the next LD! Always happy to see people getting to Godot. Nice work and thank's vor sharing!

Instability by R3L0ad1 2021-10-05T19:14:40Z

Very cool game idea and nice implementation. The art style fits 100% with the idea of the game. However the jumps could be more precise and about the ropes, they should swing directly with the player, after he jumped. That would keep the flow and even more enjoyable. My highscore was slightly above 20. I'd revisit if you make the respawn faster and create a better flow with more different obstacles, looking forward to it!

The Escape by Marin0104 2021-10-05T06:34:27Z

@enya454, @shade2810 and @ovilia thank you guys for your review! I have to read the rules again, maybe i can upload a game with performance upgrades and bugfixes.

@judy-kim thank's for your review! I can relate, i've built in the difficulty configuration right before the deadline and therefore time was running out to balance it more. I was able to finish the game on easy till apokalpyse (after a couple of tries ). One idea i have is to speed up the car on easy, so one is able to escape from a dangerous ground plate faster. At the moment the difficulty setting controls how fast the next ground plate is getting destroyed.

The Escape by Marin0104 2021-10-05T12:10:39Z

@substain, @devundead, @catalina-luca, @connor-magson, @jepjoh2, @agameortwo and @deav i really appreciate your reviews! Will see when i have the time to play and rate your games!

@devundead @connor-magson and @agameortwo about the cacti, i've tried using obstacles that blocks your path, but then it was just too hard. What would work, in my opinion, is to run the cacti over but they slow you down. I've just could not make that in time... Thank's for your ideas!

The Escape by Marin0104 2021-10-05T12:15:53Z

@totteriludu, @ccglp and @mords thank you for your reviews! @totteriludum yeah i've noticed this as well. You can exploit it with this behavior. I think it's because i am randomize only 90 degreeish angle (0, 90, 180, ...) and therefore never in the diagonal from the player's tile... If you guys really dig this game, i think i can do some more work to polish it even more. I am very glad that you guys like this game that much so far!

The Escape by Marin0104 2021-10-05T12:57:17Z

@totteriludum nice idea... If the player presses both thumbs on the display to break, how to steer to drift away from the abyss? I tried to implement a handbreak, but it didn't work out in time that i was satisfied with how it worked. I think to get it onto mobile, i have to optimize the performance by a lot

The Escape by Marin0104 2021-10-05T14:45:00Z

@chesschaser, @svemir, @louiejams and @hadik thank for your reviews!

@hadik don't worry, i am thankful for honest reviews with constructive criticism. I've spend a lot of more time than i have thought on how to draw thousands of sprites performantly and within the right perspective  I need to find ways how to produce my own game assets like gfx and sfx faster and at a consistent level of quality. I depend too much on other's assets. This time i tried to model everything with MagicaVoxel and generate the sprites from them. That worked quite well, but i am too slow to produce nice models at the moment  I need a better workflow for sfx, maybe someone has some tipps for me. But i think the more i try the better i will get. Will have a look onto your game next!

The Escape by Marin0104 2021-10-05T20:11:47Z

@truedat, @vlandemart, @dan-colman, @bernard-bumblebutt, @thunderkerrigan, @astropower, @njs, @tyler-law, @timur-bahadir, @ekilibr, @giulychu, @st00nsa and @sillyman987: Thank you very much for your feedback! First time for me, to receive so many reviews. I am going to review your games as well tomorrow.

@truedat yeah i have got into that topic in june, during developing my own, bigger game. There are some really great implementations with lighting, just gorgeous. But sprite stacking fit not the gameplay and art style in the end i want to accomplish. Since then i wanted to implement it into a different game...

@tyler-law: The props are generated by a noise texture. I've added the coins to emphasize the player to take detours from the direct way to the safe house.

@ekilibr: I think it's because i am generating a lava noise texture and two other bigger noise textures. It seems like this takes some time. If one of my next games need to load longer, i'll add a loading screen and make sure that all sounds are stopped before

The Escape by Marin0104 2021-10-06T15:19:55Z

@gastar, @peachtreeoath, @bakuchi, @fersyvanderzee, @fae-pdf, @pixelydian, @jefvel, @kr4ft3r, @hotowlgirls, @polymathld and @preda: wow, so many reviews in the last hours - thank you very much! I really like that you guys posted some screenshots!

@peachtreeoath i think i have to check the Pako Car Chase Simulator out, thank's for the tip!

@bakuchi: No it's not the firefox's fault, it's mine (i've explained it in my last comment above, it's about generating assets for the next scene, but i've forgot to stop the sound before the transition to the next scene).

@fae-pdf: I can totally relate to your comment, i think i have to upload a Post JAM version that is tweaking the balance this week...

@kr4ft3r thank your for your kind words about the graphics! I would never have thought that this type of art is that fun to produce and enjoyable for you guys.

Unstable Marbles by Marc Grabow 2021-10-05T18:52:30Z

I did it! Physics and voice acting are top notch

Mint by Préda 2021-10-05T18:43:54Z

Hey, your game deserves more reviews. The art style and especially the lighting is gorgeous and well made. Yes, the game is lacking of some more gameplay and maybe a puzzle, but i get your point what you wanted to emphasize here - and you have done a great job! I am curious for more of your games!

Unstable Shadow Trials by Almog 2021-10-05T17:03:35Z

Nice game. Very convincing voice acting! Some glitches, but that's okay. A lot of content one can find in the details, e.g. all the perks and the enemy types. Nice!

Kingdom of Chaos by AXLplosion 2021-10-05T19:01:51Z

Screenshot 2021-10-05 210008.png

I've absolutely no idea what i just did in the last minutes, but it was quite fun. Don't know exactly what this game is about and what it has to do with the theme, but after some tries the challenge was accepted :v: What isn't that great is to switch from keyboard to mouse and vice versa. That broke a little the flow, to keep in mind for the next game of this kind. Thank's for sharing!

HONK III by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2021-10-05T12:32:09Z

Really great entry. Very well composed! I really like the explosion effect  Best game so far, despite the fact that i don't know why it fits the theme  Sometimes enemies were moving a little awkward or they can't open doors (which is sometimes a good thing). I experienced some trouble shooting through doors, but despite that i couldn't see any issues. Very very great! I think i am gonna finish the game later

F%$#IN BIRDS! by Substain 2021-10-05T18:30:28Z

This is so great. Thank you for that experience. Had a blast. But after 32ft my journey was over  What a gem!

U-49 Meltdown by Blue Pin Studio 2021-10-05T06:19:44Z

Hi, nice little game you have here. I like the voice acting and sound design! The theme has been nailed in multiple ways. Art style fits the purpose and the mood.

Sometimes it was a little bit frustrating, because i pressed jump but nothing happened even if i think i was on a platform. I think you can improve it with remembering that the player has pressed jump and then activate it after the player landed on the platform (within a given timeframe). The so called "Koyote Time Jump" would improve the gameplay even more.

Thank you for sharing!

Bob's Underworld by chesschaser 2021-10-05T11:56:33Z

Hey there! You have a very nice game with solid mechanics. The pixel art is very very nice and transports the mood really well! I climbed above 120m after a couple of tries. Somtimes it seems like it is stuttering a little bit, don't know if it's the frame rate, or the camera. Check if you can smooth the camera movement.

Thank's for sharing!

The Un's Stable by Kongo 2021-10-06T16:00:04Z

Screenshot 2021-10-06 175837.png I've made it to 12 days  The concept is very unique, the graphics and sfx are very polished. What i like the most is the fact that you've put in a lot of effort in explaining the player what to do and how it is working. Therefore i could jump into the concept right away and try some stuff out! Really one of the best games i've played so far.

Last Bargain by Erlioniel 2021-10-05T16:47:07Z

The atmosphere is really really good. The controls are well done. I am okay with crashing, because it was my fault and i can comprehend why i've crashed. That is the difference between a very frustrating not fun game from a very hard but fun game! Nevertheless, checkpoints are appreciated ;) Looking forward for more games made by you!

Stabler by Cinar 2021-10-08T14:37:29Z

Hey there, that game is very nice and it's idea is so great  I had a blast jumping and smashing books down to the ground! Movement felt a little clonky, so to make it even more fun one can work on this. Sometimes you don't feel in total control how far and high to jump to nail the papers onto the ground even faster.

Thank's for sharing!

Fragile Payload by Connor Magson 2021-10-06T15:43:15Z

Hey there! As @gdman mentioned, sometimes it was too hard but it wasn't that obvious why i died. E.g. the cargo was cool, i've jumped a little and bumped into a wall with low speed and died. The minicopter that are shooting at you are quite hard, because if you are in the bottom of the v-shaped line, you are definetly in trouble  But nevertheless nice pixel art and polishing in that amount of time! Looking forward to more games made by you in Godot!

Restable by zPikA 2021-10-05T05:53:13Z

Like the graphics and the little details like the chicken is running after her egg!

Reac'this by DevUndead 2021-10-06T15:31:56Z

Hey @devundead! Thank's for sharing this game. I've played it, the idea is nice! I was confused what exactly to do and it was try and error  So a little more guidance is appreciated. As you've written it's one of your first projects made by Godot, this was a very good starting point to grow on!

Unstable Island Farming by yumao 2021-10-06T12:52:44Z

Hey there, i like the pixel art and sound was well made as well. Gameplay wise i had a hard time to keep one eye on the bottom and then on the rest on the screen. My eyes were only at the bottom of the screen, maybe you can rearrange this part in vertical space and at the height of the map? Or above the player? I know that you should get in the rhythm and just remember when which action is active at the moment, but it can help to lower the barrier to get more easier started. Thank's for sharing!

Woops I Forgot My Ladder by Giulychu 2021-10-08T14:16:25Z

Hey there! Very pretty game with a very nice idea! I was too lazy to stack up everything, so i've decided to check if i can exploit the physics. You can fly if you grab a table jump onto it, jump again and take the table with you by double-clicking to undeploy and deploy it again, so you gain height. I was able to rescue some people with this technique

Very nice entry!

Msimamo by Emanzi Kamugisha 2021-10-05T12:05:33Z

Hey there! First of all i appreciate your pixel art and animations! Unstable platforms matches the theme well. I've played a couple of minutes and tried to get to the end of the stages. Sometimes it was frustrating, because i could not see what is below me. E.g. you jump and are too high to not see the platform you want to land on. That's a bit unfair and therefore frustrating. I think if you lower the jump and make the movement more precise and emphasize the unstable platforms even more, it would feel great.

Keep up the work and thank's for sharing!

Roscharch by Casa Ocho 2021-10-06T20:16:22Z

@erlioniel, yep i need that explanation as well. I've tried to choose answers to get the two pictures more similar, but in the end it didn't matter  Mood and sound design were very strong!

Shotgun King: the Final Checkmate by benjamin 2022-04-07T21:01:31Z

It is really really awesome. Best game i have played so far. Wouldn't mind if you guys win the competition! Defenitly impressed.

Graveyard Path by JOrbits 2022-04-06T08:44:04Z

Really nice entry! Had a blast playing it and finding out how to overcome obstacles, really nice designed level. The part where you jump down as a baby and have to dodge the traps - well played my friend

Earworm Jam by ursagames 2022-04-05T12:26:30Z

Very nice rythm game with good humor! Unfortunately i miss an important mechanic - i am getting eaten up by the very short after he appeared. I have done the tutorial and run to use some stamina, but didn't make it to the first powerup.

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-05T07:52:16Z

Hey @bumberbee and @swidge! Thank you guys for your kind words. @bumberbee you get new seeds if you deliver crops at the chest on top

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-05T10:39:43Z

Thank you very much for your nice and constructive feedback and of course: playing!

@reronin, @linnet5, @otterfaelure i will have a look into that bug! Thanks for noticing, i hope it is not against the rules to upload a fix later.

@joscco you can only remove the weed, if the plant is not growing anymore because of too much weed. I thought it would help the player to focus on other, more important stuff. But i agree, in the beginning it might be a thing that the player might want to do!

@linnet5 yeah i struggled with figuring out how to determine the next selected grid. I know that other games use the mouse for that, but as i think that game can work out as a couch co-op or versus game, i need some controls that fits the input devices. If motivation and time is there, i consider to build something like Overcooked from it.

@0x-void-x0, @csdoescs yeah you guys are right. The big majority of art is from that asset pack, although i had to adjust some stuff . I am going to deactivate the graphics category!

@marc-grabow thank's! I am going to have a look at yours today!

@anaxie-studio actually i implemented seperate buttons for each action! But during playtesting i figured, it might be just too challenging and confusing. Then i switched over to an inventory style system like Stardew Valley or Core Hunter. I noticed that i had to switch my tools way too often and it wasn't that pleasant. Then i implemented this priority based solution. Some years ago, i have implemented way to complicated controls and thought that i need to scale them down to the bare minimum, as you guys might play this game just for a couple of minutes. If i work on this project in the future, i will consider your feedback for sure!

@fruit-du-dragbane hehe, would a little tutorial help you? Otherwhise have a look at the gif on top, hope it helps a little

@andrey-zhukov i feel honored, thank you! I am going to play and rate your's as well today.

@otterfaelure There is only a game over screen  I am really sorry for that bug. It just didn't happen during my playtesting sessions... I hope i can reproduce it soon! I will consider your feedback if i will work further on this project. It may works as well, but the scope can't be as sth like Stardew Valley  So i think it can be like couch co-op with story (like overcooked) or it is something like a farm builder game, but way more active with buying gadgets that helps you farming. I think that can work out as well. Thank's for your detailed feedback!

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-06T08:29:09Z

Hey guys, i am overwhelmed by all of your comments. Thank you so much for playing, rating and giving me feedback

@otterfaelure exactly! :smile:

@yello the inevitable is that the weed is taking over your farm. And this will happen as the time it takes to produce weed decreases during the game.

@amberfall92 alright, so what i get from your feedback is that the automation of the next action was confusing you? I'd like to turn this into a couch co-op/vs game, but the controls needs to fit the input devices (keyboard or gamepad), but i didn't come up with a really great solution yet...

@valentines yes a score counter is missing. Totally forgot this to add last minute  Thank you for noticing!

@bangthewall about the block of the crop above, yes and it sometimes blends in with the action above the players head. There is room for improvement, i am going to add this on my board for future me. Thank's for your feedback!

@heiach does the gif on top helps you? Should i provide another one about the deliver process?

@phillip-scott it's made with Godot, so it is possible - or i will add some mobile friendly controls to the web build. I add it on my dev board

@jamesolivermusic i think i need to add a little tutorial level in the beginning, to teach the core mechanics. Thank's for your feedback!

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-11T05:53:36Z

Hi guys! I feel very lucky and overwhelmed by all of your feedback. Again, thank you very much for playing, rating and giving feedback!

@whirlguy the music was a choice of a library i bought some weeks ago, but the sound effects were done all by myself. It took me a couple of hours to find the sweet spot of everything.

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-13T11:45:36Z

@skript-kitty thank you very much for your detailed and constructive critics. Your insights about the unclear goal actually help me a lot! After a short break of making this game to let your feedback sink in (the result is my YouTube Post Mortem, link above), i think this is something i need to work out first. As in my Post Mortem, i am going to think about the two different directions of the game and will work on one in the next weeks.

Wither by Marc Grabow 2022-04-05T12:50:52Z

Hello fellow farmer! I really like the idea of bugs that destroying the plants in combination with the night. You are always praying that there are not too many in the morning  Their is a little vibe coming from vampire survivors as you get the upgrade dialog! Sometimes controls were a little wonky and i could not change from water can to bug spray. It equips the bug spray and then equips the water can again, although i have clicked once.

Nice entry!

Finite space by Trizalio 2022-04-21T17:53:38Z

Hey @trizalio,

idea of the never ending expanding universe is nice. It reminds me of a video made by the science channel Kurzgesagt about this topic. It's about the fact that we will be in the future alone and are not able to know if there are others stars, because they are moving away from us.

My browser window was too small to fit in the whole game, so i had to scale out a bit - maybe make the width and height of the window a bit smaller. I was confused what to do, but figured it out at some point in time. Visuals are quite nice, sure there is much to do. For such UI heavy games the UX and especially the feedback must be on point to resonate with lots of players.

Keep on going and next time your game gets more visible! :v:

Paper Boy Flyin' High by unplugred 2022-04-16T07:24:51Z

Hey there! The idea is really good and fits the theme well.

I've experienced quite a lot of bugs like the power ups didn't respawn after i retry, or if i went back to the menu and started a new game i got not to see my paper plane.

Sometimes i missed the power ups just slightly despite that i expected them to get. I think something like a 3d circle around them make it much clearer how low you need to get.

Would definitely give it another try if these things are fixed!

Rifthoppers by Kimberly 2022-04-07T20:41:40Z

Hey there! I really like your entry! I immediately thought that there will be a choose your power up screen at some point in time and i was not dissapointed. I like the connection to Vampire Survivors, if it was meant to be  I have missed some more progression after hitting level 11. I felt that i could not gain that power that i need to get and that my previous decisions had no real impact (like piercing through enemies and bouncing didn't combine, am i right?). Nevertheless a solid thing to continue with!

Ultimate Mushroom Damocles Revenger by Snowirbis 2022-04-12T18:33:27Z

Hey there! I have seen that you played and rated my game. So it is my turn  I really like the usage of the music to let the knifes drop! The graphics and animations are really fluid and well. The selected soundtrack is very cool!

What i miss is more balance. Sometimes there is just no chance to avoid the falling knives if they are falling in an alternating pattern. At least to me, my eyes were only on the top of the screen and so i missed that a knife was still on the ground. You can maybe highlight the ground a bit where the knifes went down, to give the player a subtil hint. Also i would change it that the player can't run into knifes that are on the ground. Some particle effects and sound effects as the knifes are going down would fit perfectly

Another thing that could incentivise the player to move more and not to hide just under 2-3 knifes, like me , would be to add some health pickups or some other perks like speed.

I thought that jumping would help getting out of tight situations but i jump right into the knifes .

In the end it is a very cool entry to build on. The mix of rhythm game and stressful kinda jump n run is sweet!

Wormageddon by MatterLinx 2022-04-08T07:58:21Z

Hey there! Really nice entry and i am trying to learn stage 1, but as soon as i finally blocked a laser attack, the game crashes :sob:. I think i have the same issue @stefan-funke found also. Please fix

Wormageddon by MatterLinx 2022-04-08T21:33:04Z

@matterlinx now it works. Thank you very much! Made it now into stage 2  About your graphics implementation, did you use some kind of Sprite Stacking?

LD54 — Limited Space

Feng Tetra by Marin0104 2023-10-03T05:54:19Z

@thefoppian @inkharker @killnaprimer @multitone @mortusnegati First of all, thank you very much for playing and taking your time to give such constructive feedback! I am going to add your games onto my list to play and give feedback.

Regarding the issues with the sometimes partially invisible furniture, I didn't find a solution in time without not having enough time to complete the game. I think it's root cause is the ortographic camera view. I played a little around with different settings, but it seems to be a more fundamental issue with the idea to use this view.

The reason for the idea to let the camera rotate, was to make the gameplay a bit more dynamic and let the player see the room from more angles in order to help decision making. I knew that the controls might get effected, too. But I didn't make it to that point of my todo list...

@inkharker yes! In the beginning, I adjusted the window size to let the player see the furniture coming from the top and on the room on the bottom. A 9:16 ratio is a good match for it which let it fit for mobile screens just fine.

The last times I did the jam, I took 1 or 2 more days to do bugfixes and polish the game a bit more. One of my take aways from your comments is, that the mechanics have potential, but the implementation need a lot more work to get the game to it's full potential - to actually make a lot of fun. Sometimes during coding this game I had some doubts, if the gamplay concept is flawed and destined to be doomed

Cheers!
