Linux build works

idea is nice. sounds are good.

I used a controller -> movement seemed odd, not quite sure why.

Camera could have used some changes... for example I ended up with my character basically off the screen. Off Screen.png

Make the camera/movement so that it is more clear where you are going and this would make a nice puzzle platformer game.

Nice game! I enjoyed it a lot. I had some difficulty with the keyboard control, but I enjoyed the experience. Keep the job on!

Extremely solid entry and idea. Couldn't get past 95/100, however, and I encountered two bugs: the first being that there was one button where I could jump into the turning part and sometimes launch upwards. The second, more serious one, ended my run — I don't know how it happened, but the only button I had when it finished turning broke. I did see some z-fighting as it turned, so maybe that had something to do with it? Hard to tell.

Bugs have nothing on this as a whole, though! Really neat concept, and one that you managed to see to completion at that. The audio and mood were both very nice, and the graphics, while not impressive, were suitable and effective. The only thing I can think of to criticize is that the corner perspective is difficult to work with in regards to positioning and that a free camera may work better. That aside, well done indeed!

3D puzzles like this have always been a favorite of mine. Im typically pretty good with spatial awareness type games so this did a really nice job of striking an interest in that category. This also does a nice job of giving the player the ability to manipulate the actual planet and try to use that to solve some simple yet somewhat challenging puzzles when trying to gather up all the star dust.

That said I found something about this game made it a little more difficult than it needed to be. I think its something in either the camera controls or the terrain controls. Often times the camera angles you had to choose from were just off enough that I couldn't really see where i was going or what I was touching. Making some of the platforming tricky. Maybe just allowing the player to romp about on all faces of the planet might work better and you can still manipulate the ground, and adding a free follow camera might work a touch better.

Otherwise this was a very solid concept. I think you should take it and run with it. Add in a touch of story or reason why our character is here. Toss in a pinch of ambient activity like plants, animals, and people to interact with on each world and you'd be golden to turn this into just a really rich puzzle game, or more of an adventure game.

One of my favourite entry! But: WHERE IS THE LAST STARDUST?! :D The concept is very nice and addictive. With more time to spare, you could make more worlds to introduce the mechanic or add even more mechanics. To make it a little bit less frustrating - speeking of those bushes ;) - please reveal the last stardusts on the map after some time.

Well done!

Really nice idea, it was really quite innovative and clever. It felt like I was doing a puzzle platformer on a rubiks cube. The graphics and audio are also quite nice, and the menu looks really cool as well. I did have some trouble with the isometric controls, as it was really quite hard with some of the tighter platforming sections to move around in the diagonal space, when you could control up down left and right. Other than that this game seemed quite polished, although rather difficult. Nice work

Some really great execution here doign the puzzle platformer combined with the flipping sides. Very original!

Amazing concept, looks and sounds great, very challenging. I think it would benefit from a series of levels that start small and progressively get bigger and more complexed, also myabe some kind of hint system for finding remaining dust. Great job overall

Wonderful concept and I really enjoyed playing your game despite few flaws I found.

The puzzles themself work really well, but movement controls aren’t best (I played with controller). Character seems to slide too easily off things. Maybe you could consider 8-axis movement instead of full 360 degrees, that would make jumps easier.

Graphics mostly are well done, but few problems here too. Some textures like the ground really messed my depth perception, and made some jumps really hard. Also I feel like positioning the cube is bit too high on the screen, I had to constantly rotate the cube to see where I was going. Also maybe add some ambient light (or make shadows lighter) so the shadows would not be so dark. I really liked the idea in main menu, but some texts are too small.

Sounds are ok, didn’t really notice them. I am glad there is pick up sound for stardust, otherwise finding it in the bushes would be really annoying.

Altogether nicely executed fun game with potential to become something really great with few adjustments. Great job!

Great idea. The keyboard controls were a bit strange, but the rotation mechanic was awesome! Some height differences were difficult to discern, maybe some shading (if not light-based, maybe height based?) would've helped there, but I enjoyed this entry a lot!

Really neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDuO7KTgNEs

Woah! The Rubik's platformer!

I really loved it, and so humble regarding it that I hesitate to point on defaults... But let's go, it will be more usefull for you than just sending love!

1. The 2D character + 2D collectible made it sometimes difficult to see the perspective and collect an availalbe stardust. Maybe larger hitboxes, or full 3D can do the trick. 2. Some stardusts being hidden made it verry difficult to get the last ten, somehow showing it beind walls could be a good easy mode

Anyway, great entry. I loved your game.

... And it works wonderfully on linux with an xbox360 controller ;)

conk 2017-05-18 20:35

Amazing game  Certainly one of the best puzzle games this comp, so simple yet so good.

mgadrat 2017-05-18 20:49

I had a lot of fun with your game. I like the main menu very much. Turning the cube is showing the whole fresh concept, it's pretty cool ! The theme puts you in the mysterious mood directly. The dream ambience collecting stardust. Just one little thing - maybe missing some ergonomy between the movements of the joystick & the perspective when you try to jump on a little platform, for example. But it didn't spoil the experience of the game :)

vivoubos 2017-05-18 20:56

Nice game! Really fun puzzle game! That was so vilain to hide some of the target!!! I was blocked at 99 for 5 minutes!! ^^

So cool to play with the 360 controller! But it was difficult to move from one platform to another because of the isometric view, but... What can you do?! :)

Nice entry!!

Really interesting idea, the perception fucked with my head a little (and made it difficult for me to control, but shadows really helped!).

If you could give my game a rate that would be helpful (trying to get the 20 mark) Link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/final-front-planetary-defence

Very interesting concept I thoroughly enjoyed it, one of the best puzzle platforms i have seen this jam! Played it for quite a while but was unable to get past 95. Like others have said i think if you had a 3rd person character controller with a 3D character then it would make the jumps much better.
