LD38 — A Small World

Signal? by voxel 2017-05-12T02:33:14Z

I have to say I just love the VHS (or beta, your pick) Style, realy liked it :).

I managed to get the gun, somehow I wanted to fulfill both things, that is get the gun and finish the level. But of course its not designed that way.

I found out a bug though, if you wait for more than five minutes and then start to rewind it crashes (maybe too much recording :o). But then again, no one would probably wait more than 5 minutes other than me :P.

In any case it was short but oh so sweet. I loved it!

PD: By Voxel... I got it ;)

Breakout Bunny by Budaniel 2017-05-16T05:07:58Z

Nice idea! I love how the rabbit is like "ehh, who cares I just want to grow".

I did get to he same problems other are having of not getting all the pellets since one of those doesn't get into the foreground and I can't eat it so I can't continue the story.

And sometimes when I abuse jumping I manage to break it and then I can't jump at all (it seems it happens when I fall on top of some pellets).

I did enjoy my time with it, it was a short fun thing to do.

Mines of Tehon by unpronounceable 2017-05-19T22:40:25Z

I survived with one life point left!

Yes the battle system at first seem to be not taht interesting. But after studying it look slike it could be very powerful in a bigger game. Id like to see more clearly the signs, and maybe a better expplanations of how the whle system works.

But I can see a game with your grid being randomly generated or changed according to yur level or stats, and constantly trying to find counter according to the other's movement.

Really nice idea, good work!

Save A Small World by chaotikza 2017-05-19T22:17:42Z

Atlhough tis a bit short on the theme side, its a fun sweet three match game.

I did manage to get some bugs though (there was a three row on the left, and it ouwldn't combine. It still let me play but for some reason I wasn't able to match onf that side for the rest of the mission.

I would recomend you to polish u a bit more the playing field. The earth bavground behind it doesn't help to make it out the shapes (at least for me), and the antarctica part made it for me for the bottom row to be practially invisible (I din't notice I had an extra row after a while)... a little dark bacground would have helped. Same for the other gui element, seem too dark to me and not enough conrast.

But in the end, I got to relax among a lot of LD entries with a lovely mathc 3 game. Nice job :).

Mouth Rescue by petitpois 2017-05-19T21:04:42Z

I had to donwload the game becuase the screen was stretchin in WebGL and couldn't look the evels correctly. You have to check your resolution and ensure you have a 16:9 aspect ratio for WebGL (and also check that your UI scales, so I won't go beyond the frame).

I idi like the theme a lot, not many games though about one's own motuh and I think that is a neat idea. The control were a bit akward though, X, B and space are a little weird, I would recommend to use mor standard controls: Z - Jump X - Mouthwash c - ToothBrush

You do have to take into account the center of yur sprites, since when I was turning around, the center would shift and make it look like that character was popping from one side to the other (I only managed to notice this after moving with the keyboard ofr a while.

The game was fun though! I enjoyed the art style and the music kept me going. The ideas was novel and I loved my time with it. Nice work!

Super Tiny Adventure Game by sinclairstrange 2017-05-16T20:01:03Z

Wow! this is serious work for a 72 hour game. I have to say I'm a sucker of collectathons, so I was really enjoying this.

I was enjoying it until I got to this glitch, I pounded the ground in this place and got stuck.

glitch.png

But, well this is really good! Too bad not many people got to see it. Mad props for effort, and I would recommend you to keep this game in the future, sounds promising to make it a full game, good job!

PS: I would recommend you to better put the in another platform designed for game,s like itch.io or gamejolt. I almost couldn't download it, it was so slow!

Yet Another Zombie Wave Shooter by urfbound 2017-05-16T04:06:26Z

It was a weird game certainly. No idea abut the anime references at the beginning so my face was wholly blanks at the start screen (been out of anime for a long time, only got lucky star).

I could appreciate more feedback from he game, bullet hit sounds and maybe some kind of visual effect other than just simple blinking when you are hit. Feedback are part of those tiny details that can make an ok game to good, and a good game to great. And, oddly enough those details are the things that take more time than ever in any game.

Its clear that this is your first LDJam game, and that's okay, the idea is to always improve and get better every time you make a game. Each time you make a game you recognize your strengths and limits and you¿'ll see what is best to handle in a tight time limit.

Keep it up guys!

Galactic Dwarfare by jirrev 2017-05-19T22:51:09Z

Who doesn't like space Dwarves!

Interesting Galfo-Suion like game. Maybe a little bit too quick to finish. A couple of more levels would have mmade not finish it that quickly. And unfortunately there is a sire fire strategy to always win. When a lavel begins, always attack the enemy first because he will always split his army.

Shame that there isnt any kind of sound, anything, even some music would have been welocme.

In any casy I had fun for a while and the graphics were lovely and very well done. Great work!

Moon Dozer by sararyCow 2017-05-03T01:23:07Z

What can I say, this was a very ridiculous laugh out loud fun idea. My first stop was to destroy my city, then to destroy everything I could.

There were some problems in understanding shooting correctly (it seems that full power *sometimes*works and sometimes doesn't, not very sure about it. Also, sometimes the way the camera reset after a shoot kinda "swung around", and what I felt was the way I was going now was behind me. It was kinda weird.

And maybe the cities were way to small or maybe too similar to the background to notice them correctly.

And just a nitpick, but I would have loved that the game ended when the music did. Would have been amazing, like this grand finale and a final say "you destroy x cities".

However, It was a ton of fun and I really enjoyed it and laughed abut destroying random cities. Really nice!

World of Ghost by matsoj15 2017-05-19T23:53:37Z

Once you get the mechanic on how to balance all ofr your stats it becomes fairly easy. Too bad there's no sound, it wuld have been very helpful to have some feedback of any kind for your actions.

I ended it too quickly perhaps, maybe having more objective other than "survive", and maybe have more reactions to your lovely ghost would have improved the game.

In any case I had fun and it felt cute, good job!

Our Cramped Little World by ret44 2017-05-16T01:38:33Z

The idea is just too lovely. Its like "pff, organize, easy!, then you have to arrange everything up and I was "Oh bad stuff".

This could be a cool basis for a bigger videogame! Maybe getting more stiff in later levels and after a while sell something or maybe get a bigger place (and more stuff).

The art style is cute and everything feels nice. I did feel the mouse a bit "sluggish", and since I was playing in windowed mode, my mouse would sometimes drift away from the screen.

Nice work, I enjoyed the game a lot, even though it was so short.

TARJECTORIES by csanyk 2017-05-16T04:52:02Z

Nooo I killed myself on level 17!

It was a fun game though, it got more interesting when tow planets appeared. A bit simple in all respecto, but solid game design in my opinion. Good job!

Planets of Zoltcon by terryg 2017-05-16T03:50:39Z

I like the game idea in general. The movement was a little buggy. I believe you may be using Update instead of FixedUpdate for moving rigidbodies, that may cause a multitude of bugs. Adn I wish I could move in the air, but each time I jumped I got stuck in the air, which made the platforming a little difficult.

BTW, I had to play in WebGL since the zip version still contains the right planet bug and other weird stuff.

I kinda got frustrated when I wasted the jetpack, since there is one level that using the jetpack is a must (the bottom one), and if you have no charges then you can't win (I used it up without knowing what I was dogin and only realized in the end). I checked the level again and maybe the portals are in the wrong place to solve the puzzle without the jetpack?

In the end nice idea, a little buggy though and in the end makes the game feel wonky to handle. But I can see it being an awesome game with multiple planets and ways to solve puzzles inside them.

Cloud Conquerors by ViKingGames 2017-05-19T23:31:47Z

I managed to find tow more players to play. Is way too much fun to play huddled in the keyboard, all fighting for one sectior, and then the saltiness when someone just wants to destroy one of the conquered ones :D.

It may seem far fetched, but I can see some kind of tournament play with a combination of fighting game and sector conquering :).

Very polished entry, nice graphics, sound and speacially gameplay. For the little gameplay stuff you make there is a lot to enjoy. I enjoyed the level of detail you made here, theres just so much fun when playgin with more people. Good entry, congratulations!

River Flow by slowian 2017-05-14T01:10:51Z

I Liked the game, I enjoyed my time with it. It does feel complicated at first, but once you get the hangin fo it it becomes second nature. I did feel that the game could be solved by applying "shortcuts", then executing. This may thought process.

1. Check all the number of tiles I had available. 2. See what route was feasible with the tiles that had the lowest number (and sometimes, check on the highest). This assumes than in each level you must use ALL the tiles. 3. This would give m a god rough draft of the solution, even I didn't have the whole thing figured out. If I got those "key tiles" done, then the rest was easy, just fighting my fingers and time.

Now, the thing is...I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing... it left me pondering if is better to try to obstruct that way of thinking, or maybe encourage it? Not sure... maybe with more tile variety you can explore the gameplay much better and get a better feel for how it should go :).

In any case, I really enjoyed the game, it was really cool :D!

Iceburg by Piller Yann 2017-05-16T19:21:17Z

I loved the game, slapping penguins for your survival it was fun! One thing I could never do was to throw the fish, I pressed the button but nothing worked. Too bad I wish I could shoot fish! In any case It was a blast to play. Good job!

Spike Spire by Acuity 2017-05-16T19:29:29Z

Its really hard. I'm not very god at thi kinds of game,s It tried a lot to get the blue thingy on top, but I eventually quit. I would have appreciated at least a couple checkpoints (two or three). I know that's maybe not the idea, but then again, I'm not really into super hard platformers.

However I enjoyed the music and the art style though minimal it works its purpose. Nice!

Taipa by Jose Souza 2017-05-19T22:29:51Z

Gosh, it's too bad you don't have more gameplay! It looks and feel really cool I have to say.

I liked a lot the concept. I expecte to feel awkward when going to the side of the tiny planet... and it was, but not for long, got eased to walk sidewards and upwards.

I believe there is interesting ptential here, I'd recommend you to keep pushing this idea, it might got to interesting places :).

The Time of Our Lives by tddawson 2017-05-16T02:17:03Z

A very interesting game. It is actually very difficult! And also, being social is not my best trait, so this was hard, trying to remember all those people, and your current status with them.

I would have maybe appreciated more unique traits, other than colour... and maybe a way to help you out that "maybe" he remembers you... Heck, I can image actually someone coming to you waving and hugging and you are like "oh, what am I supposed to do with this guy, like give you a time to try to guess and fail at least once before trying again... or maybe be able t get past everything if you are polite enough, without even knowing the guy/gal (like in real life).

I see a really nice potential game here. Good work!

Western World: The Traitor by Julian Creutz 2017-05-16T20:25:30Z

It was more interesting than I expected. It was great to carefully explore and expect the first shooting so you could answer back. I could use a little bit more of audio polish, but otherwise it felt great.

Its too bad its on Java, not many people can play it without it being an exe (at least on windows), or downloading the JRE. However, I can see this maybe getting into a bigger game, maybe you are moseing around town and suddenly you have to look for a killer.

Feels refreshing for sure, and it was a lot of fun for me (n_n).

Legend of Helda: Breath of the Mild by Bryan Livingston 2017-05-12T04:30:26Z

I enjoyed my time with the game :). I chuckled of the idea of trying to mock the theme and just make it something big!

I believe that maybe the games feels a little bit barren, trying to find the towers being the only mission feels not too much compared to the size of the game. And also, I only used space to move around, running didn't feel useful, wasn't going faster and wasted more stamina, it was all about jumping for me.

In any case, maybe trying to get more interactivity out of the game, beside enemies and the main object would have been cool, maybe trying to find more things, pickups, weapon, ammo, life, more stuff in general in order to active other stations, and maybe getting more from the enemies.

I liked the main robot character you were playing, and the game feels like something full of possibilities in the future. Nice job :)

Desert Planet by magns 2017-05-19T23:09:30Z

God bless Klarb (was ti Klarb? huh he's going to hate me for not remebering his name)

Nice idea! I enjoyed a lot thrwoing stuff around I wasn't expeting anything until I got some bottles and read some message that made me chuckle. After that I was more interested in how the game was developing for sure. Aiming was hard, but once you get your first item you keep at it.

It's a shame there's no sound. Even just one sound of him throiwng and things falling, or even ambiance music would have done wonders.

I liked your game, it was fun!

KindergARTen by Gaga 2017-05-19T22:24:14Z

This is really beautiful!

Although it doesn't have any gameplay (a shame, a little bit of interaction would have made it tons more interesting)... it was very nice to see a little world made of crayon. I think you nailed what you wanted with the art style, even if you couldn't make more of it, and it was realy nice and realaxing to wak around that house.

I encourage you to keep pursuing this idea, whether it ends up being a game or not I think you are onto something here... Congratulations, nice job!

Draw a Small World by ryan 2017-05-16T17:47:36Z

Managed to make my draw as well. Although its not a game it was lovely :D

drawing.png

Leucos by Harry Alissavakis 2017-05-16T02:43:42Z

Interesting game. Oh god the knock-back got me so many times. Maybe I liked it more if there was no platforming so the knock-back wasn't so punishing.

But in any case it was a fun game, and I enjoyed resisting for as long as could.

Nice job!

Planet Taxi by Marin0104 2017-05-12T03:56:11Z

I like a lot the idea and visuals (I love bright things! but I don't know why our games keep looking dark... need to step that up)

I can see a slightly-bigger planet and lots of little interactive things with your Taxi and have this lovely toy and game. It does have problems, and as many have pointed out, the GPS and the Gymbal lock are one of these.

I would like to point out as well that when you crash to anything in an angle, you get to a full stop. It really takes you out of the speedy taxi thing. I would recommend instead to make the taxi bounce or slide. It could be fun, thinking like a spherical pinball with your taxi to reach faster and making combos or something could be a neat idea. Or at the very least make it slide so you can keep going.

However the core concept is good and the visuals are really nice. Keep it up!

Diminishing Lands by drazil100 2017-04-30T03:31:23Z

I really liked this game! I got around 4100 points in my first playthrough. Loved the random generation mechanics that always keeps you aware of your surroundings to plan your next move (with little time to do it!). It is really hard to ascend when you are at the bottom, so it is essential to work your way top-bottom and have top-notch platform skills (the controls felt really tight by the way).

Anyway, I though it was a nice little fun game to play. Cheers!

What Do You Mean The Planet Is In Danger And All I Have Is This Deck Of Cards? by Zach Bracken 2017-05-19T23:24:46Z

I love card games! But I guess I'm not very good at card games, only when I read the other coment I managed to beat the game by upping all the attack I could. And by reading the strategies, yeah there's no sense to ever defend.

I guess it need to have som sorte of way to know what you are doing... mostly in the form of feedback, like sparkles, animations, sounds, anything.

I would love to be able to use the mouse, it would have made the game feel less arcane. But in general I enjoyed it, I had fun with all decks!

Strangeness by philomory 2017-05-12T03:15:24Z

I really liked it! I got stuck on level 17 (is it even possible?, I got the timing, but not so sure how to get on time to the water), my mind usually is not very good at this kind of stuff, but I managed to understand the whole basic concept and I liked it :).

I found it a little weird that there was a story and then suddenly "Level 7, 8, 9".. But oh well time constraints :p. In any case I like the progression, felt that I was learning along with the game and found it really satisfactory to solve all puzzles :).

I got this weird Lemmings vivbe in the sense that "hey this is the same old level but with a twist!" I have to admit the music can get a little bit grating if stuck too long in the game.

But I enjoyed my time with it :).

PD: Got level 17... it was devilish, but when I was writing this, the solution popped in my head. Great!

Libre by DiegoCTorguet 2017-05-16T18:20:42Z

The atmosphere of the game is great. I manages to immerse you at the beginning. I liked to have multiple languages as well (since I speak Spanish, this was great).

Maybe one important thing to take in mind is that I needed the feedback when changing tiles. I did not know if I was actually changing them so most of the time I was wrong and had to repeat it again.

Also, it take way too much time to enter a tile to see how its made. Maybe would be more interesting if every-time you pressed the power button all tiles would flash briefly? It may be a different thing but it could have worked.

In any case I enjoyed my time with it. Good work!

Shrinking Space by Landon 2017-05-16T04:25:41Z

It is a good game! I like the charm the game has with its graphics and little stories (someone neds a guitar, the kid wants his ball, etc.) Somehow was interesting to generate intriguing gameplay. Too bad the janitor doesn't want to leave :(.

Like other have said, you can fell the lack of sound. Too bad since it would have been a lot better with it.

However, it was a fun entry and I enjoyed my time saving everyone (n_n).

Rise of the Termites by Togis 2017-05-01T16:57:44Z

I liked the game, it has been long ago since I played something akin to an RTS. I like the concept and the world building, although slow at first, picks up fast at the end. I takes a while to understand, but once you read everything (and lose a couple times) its all good.

I did feel that there was a fixed way to win the game in every scenario, but then again its just a short time for a Ludumdare.

In any case I loved it and I got through all levels!

The Ludum Show by ketchupcoke 2017-05-16T19:15:52Z

Simple quick game but I had so much fun. I have to admit I was worried about the graphics, but when I saw them in motion it worked much much better than I expected.

There not much to say, short but sweet, congratulations!

Depth by CreamyBacon2 2017-05-16T04:39:23Z

First of al I would recommend you to put this game in another place like itch.io, or gamejolt. Those are nice hubs for the game to live.

No, abut the game, it was really nice! I did not expect the mechanic to be that much fun. I can the this becoming a nice bigger title with more mechanics and events, not just moving in Z dimension, but maybe on 2D plane as well.

The cutscene seemed to hang when you "click" on the cube (or at least, nothing happen when I click it) so in the end I just skipped it.

In any case, it was a really cool game, liked it a lot!

NUKEBALL by camilovr 2017-05-16T20:31:02Z

The theme of the game is clear, and it feels horrifying. However I think it needs more feedback to reflect on the experience you want to make (war... war never changes... sorry).

Maybe more feedback on the explosions and launch, make it feel like its really the end of the world, feel the explosion and maybe backgrounds sounds that makes you feel the carnage and the pointless of it all.

Maybe the aiming was too random, I feel that it would have worked better if you made the aiming feel more precise, more cold-heartless calculation, do you can dig the theme deeper.

It was generally good work, congratulations!

Odd Ball by mikeware 2017-05-19T21:16:40Z

With these kinds of game I'm never going to beat the best time ever xD.

My best time was this (admittedly after two tries, nothing more): Level 1-3: 00:00:05.711 Level 4-7: 00:00:28.216 Level 8-11: 00:01:17.007 Level 12-16: 00:02:29.451 Total Time: 00:04:20.385 Best Time: 00:04:20.385

It was a fun distraction. Not very fond of these games, but that's because I tend to get a little anxious with these things (similor to spot the differneces... yeah I don't know why, may impatience)

I got to appreciate a lot the small spehere rotating with all the symbols, it was enjoyable. Too bad thare was no audia, any kind of audio feedback when you clicked (or got the wrong sybmol) would have made it so much better.

However, I did like it, and I am glad I played it!

Survival Game by Anubhav Kashyap 2017-05-16T18:33:08Z

As others have said, its a good idea and a good starting base for a bigger game. But for LDJam is just too ambitious. But that's good, this kind of experiences will make you know what you can and can't do in the future for a given time and it will make you hone your skills better.

I appreciated my time with and build a small house :D

Clean the Dorm by fangzhangmnm 2017-05-12T03:34:00Z

I loved the aesthetic! I really liked that you took your time to make some details! Like the shadows on the tin cans. I thought at first it wasn't going to work, but when you re playing it really blends.

Managed to get to the "Work in progress thing". I suppose the idea could be neat, but kind of hard to implemented. Still a great concept overall!

Maybe the two details are that the music got a little repetitive and that I felt you hat to hit the big bugs way too many times. But really its just nitpicking.

Really liked it, keep up the good work!

Leafcutters by gimbalock 2017-05-19T20:54:21Z

It was a simple short-but-sweet clicker game. I do wish you had time to face threats that would alter your production cycle, because once you get in a stable production cycle you just watch it grow. I guess that's part of the appeal fo clicker games, but I'd like more confrontation and imbalanace to fight it out.

In any case, it was a fun little game to play, congratulations :)!

CORO by sunnray 2017-05-19T21:29:32Z

I Liked the art style of the game, and it got entertained for a while, util I realized that the bus would respawn! So this was a futile mission and in all, so I qut the game after I killed a bunch.

The base idea is cool, I actually expected to be able to eat the fruit around the map, I don't know why, it would have been cool to be able to change the environment that way (I only realized I eas eating theri dead bodies after a while, but only because I read your instructions in the page more carefully).

And in all, a good, job, shame there was no winning screen, bu I still enjoyed your game :).

Space Raiders by Smeax 2017-05-16T04:14:29Z

I enjoyed a lot. The graphics were lovely, and the gamaply was hard! Protecting my heart was not easy.

I somehow felt that I missed way to much with my bullets, but I don't know if it was a lack of feedback or it was just my aim was too bad.

I believe a little bit of polish in audio here and there would make it perfect, but its mostly nitpicking.

I really enjoyed it. Nice!

Little Wild Invasion by Titangea 2017-05-03T00:17:48Z

I liked the game, the animations are really cute, although sometimes I fell the enemies are Way too big and con sometimes block the screen.

I do feel that by walking diagonally you can go faster than walking in one simple direction. And sometimes it felt like the only way to actually escape the enemies before being hit. I tried to use the falling blobs to my advantage, and it usually worked but sometimes it felt a little too random to be able to use them properly.

In any case its a nice game and I enjoyed my time with it. Good work!

SUNLESS by pell707 2017-05-16T01:28:30Z

Nice cute game! I was going to say something abut the doors, but it seems everybody has said it already :p. It was more fun than expected. The visual were very cute and I loved the extra details, like your character looking at you when you are not moving (n_n).

I also liked how you "discover stuff", specially when you find out what the diamonds do and then try to find out everything.

Oddly enough, the music makes the game creepier than I expected. It was odd, but interesting, makes you think there is more to it than what you are looking at, story-wise.

Not bad for a first jam! Keep up the good work!

Just Another Pocket Universe by Owen Davies 2017-05-16T02:35:54Z

My humans tend to get suicidal and disappear.. poor humans. The concept behind it seems interesting, maybe a little too ambitious for a ldjam project (especially being the first one)

I liked the music and the graphics had something going on... too bad it was too much of an ambitious idea.

I recommend you to maybe put the files somewhere else than Mediafire. Maybe itch.io or Gamejolt may work better for another jam.

Interesting that you used Java, its not very common and many people have to download the runtime to play it. I did find this couple of bugs that freeze the game, I believe it involves the chemistry set. I got a stacktrace for you if you are interested (using windows 10 by the way)

``` Exception in thread "Display" java.lang.NullPointerException at net.oaster2000.game.gui.HotbarGui.update(HotbarGui.java:44) at net.oaster2000.game.Game.tick(Game.java:170) at net.oaster2000.game.Game.run(Game.java:114) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) ```
In any case, it was a nice attempt, keep up the good work!
Alienus-Alienas by Brainy_Beard 2017-05-03T01:35:02Z
I did enjoy the game, but it kinda makes you frustrated that there are way too many bullets and alien ships! And somehow I felt myself to move way to slow in order to reach and repair. I know its a score attack, but it kinda felt way too hopeless from the get go... maybe if the pacing of the enemies were slower you could fell more in control of the repair.
However the concept is pretty neat, and clearly there is an interesting game here, with the idea of being an engineer, frantically fixing thing the best way you can, that makes the game feel interesting, being a proxy repairer instead of the actual executor of things. Nice entry, and a potential good game, i liked my time with it, but it needs more polish to get to its true desirable state.
King of Tiny Mountain by malec2b 2017-05-16T02:08:49Z
Got to be the king!
It was a very hard game. But I got a lot of fun. Like everyone else, the depth perception was kinda weird so I got frustrating at times. I never managed to get two of the yellow bits. (A hidden one which I never found out how to get it, and the one in the top to the right).
The inertia was killing me as well, trying to get impulse to jump was sometimes frustrating, but I eventually got the hang of it.
Still, it was fun and engaging, and I got to defeat the big enemy too :)!
Carmina's World by Maximo Pech 2017-05-19T23:47:17Z
I love these games that have sucha cute retro aesthetic. Theres something about tiny ixel and tiny screen that just gets me hyped.
I eventually find some things and killed some mosnters and fought a really scary pumpkin, but I really enjoed my time with it, it was fun!
Its a shame you got ill, I think you may have a nice idea here.
The control do feel very wonky, it is hard to orient oneself with the setu you have there. I tried to solve the puzzle but I couldn0t relate the symbols of the big pilar with the smaller ones. Then I wandered for a while and fell into the water.
It was interesrting to wandre aroun though. Even though ti was incomplete and had difficult controls it was a nice walk around with na nice feel and music :).
