oh, cute! is it also on indiexpo.net?

juri 2017-05-03 21:55

Completed it first time so short but I enjoyed this. Puzzle games in short amounts of time can be tricky, but as a first level of something that builds on this I can see that becoming a very fun little game.

Interesting interpretation of the theme, certainly works better than many.

Not certain if it was intentional but the feel reminded me very much of the stereotypical pseudo 1960's communism feel of games like Papers Please. The colour theme, the background music, the whole idea of modern life being in a cramped little flat (though that is true of today too in many locals).

So in short, yea, nice :)

Feel free to swing by our game if ya get the chance!

This is a really cute little game, I love the drab colour palette, and the blocky aesthetic fits right in. Though I'd have liked to see some walls on the back faces of the room, to ground it a little more.

While the game is short - it can be completed in a couple of minutes, the game achieves exactly what it set out to. I'd like to have seen either some randomness to the objectives, or some reason to use some of the other furniture pieces - presently it's easy to cheese the game, knowing that half of the furniture isn't going to be useful.

I liked the controls, the pick up and drag makes the furniture feel weighty, and the satisfying grunt adds a bit of flair. Occasionally, particularly in phase 1, my mouse would reach the edge of the screen while dragging a piece of furniture and be unable to drag any further. This caused the bit to snap back to it's starting position, which was a little frustrating.

Overall, a short-but-sweet submission that needs more attention. Play this if you like a game with strong visual design and a high level of polish.

I Played this on Livestream Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_6NTcovuI0

This game was really good, I think my only real complaint was how difficult it was to move things around. Everything felt "Heavy" which might be what you were going for, but hurt my desire to play for long periods of time. Had a very soviet feel to it.

takusan 2017-05-09 17:05

Haha, yeah, that's the thing about crappy small apartments ;)

Although I fund it relatively easy (didn't have to move anything after initial furnishing) - probably because I had to live in really small flats quite a few times :D

Graphics and sound are very fitting and well done, idea fits the theme. Basically only complaint I'd have is that mouse stops at screen border, so a few times I had to drop something halfway and re-grab it to put it in its place - other than that, everything is solid and works well. Good presentation, I'd actually want to play more of this. I hope you're planning more levels or story mode :D

Cheers!

A very well polished game! Had to play twice because during the initial building phase, I was too worried about how the furniture arrangement looked xD but I found that there was a more optimal configuration which looked less pretty.

The only thing that bothered me was that in the initial phase, the game limited how far I could drag furniture. I'm not sure if this was a bug or not but I felt I should share it with you either way.

Good job!

Wow this game is already at a very good state! I really could imagine this as a full game when these tasks would turn into puzzles. So you have to rethink how you position the furniture and the people in order to reach every point. The graphics are super good. (Really crazy you made these in just 72 hours) The Drag/Drop could be a bit more polished. On my Computer it lagged quite a bit and I had to repick some furniture mutiple times until I could place it. Overall a very good entry! Feels very good :)

Cheers

Really cute and cool puzzle game idea! The graphics was really nice and quite fantastic the amount of detail put in during this short time. I think you did comment on the controls and I had quite a hard time even grabbing some objects and sometimes impossible to get them where I wanted. I think it would have helped if the game showed where it considered the mouse pointer was even outside the flat.

I'm guessing that all your content is full 3D models and since the flat gets quite crowded, it would have been nice if you could rotate the flat too or possibly if it rotated slowly by itself (that rotation could even indicate a time of day thing if you wanted to add stress to the game).

Because I had such hard times with the dragging of the furniture, I for a while thought that perhaps you weren't allowed to say drag the fridge through the bed but had to place without crossing the paths of other furniture. And indeed this could also be something interesting to test. Especially if you limit the order by which stuff gets carried up to the flat. Oh also the sound for grabbing and dropping stuff was really nice! It would have been even cooler if at least the humans had distinct sounds.

The UI was really neatly worked too, however once I had "organized" the flat I got a task to make the mother get the milk out of the fridge and I though I would have to move things around inside, but instead the flat just cleared out. Oh also, as final part of making the flat, you could have the user place the door. And then then one task could be "kid goes to school".

Because the controls were so unwilling I quit after apartment cleared out. Plus it wasn't really clear to me if I should still get milk or if I accidentally fulfilled the requirement at once. On that note, there must probably be randomness in order of tasks, else you can learn and plan ahead on second play-through. (Maybe there was). On the tasks, the 'mother gets the milk' felt like a bit of unnecessary stereotyping, unless it was random composing ofc.

I see a very pleasing game in this idea once the controls are fixed. If you could combine the sokoban like shuffling of furniture with building relations and caring for the inhabitants it could be a hit. The interactions should translate well to mobile too. So great work really!

I absolutely adore the art style.

davidrico 2017-05-15 09:37

Cute little game. The graphic style is really nice! The controls weren't as smooth as they could be, and the game feels a bit simple: I didn't have to move any furniture in my first try. Maybe add some more furniture so that the player is forced to make some adjustments? Other than that, solid game, good job!

bainerd 2017-05-15 23:20

Great idea, I wish it was harder...or at least had more to do!

stevie-bushman 2017-05-15 23:44

I could not figure out how to have something show up on the your task sine. but building the flat was fun.

glitchy-pixel 2017-05-16 01:38

The idea is just too lovely. Its like "pff, organize, easy!, then you have to arrange everything up and I was "Oh bad stuff".

This could be a cool basis for a bigger videogame! Maybe getting more stiff in later levels and after a while sell something or maybe get a bigger place (and more stuff).

The art style is cute and everything feels nice. I did feel the mouse a bit "sluggish", and since I was playing in windowed mode, my mouse would sometimes drift away from the screen.

Nice work, I enjoyed the game a lot, even though it was so short.

blushine 2017-05-16 01:40

I managed to arrange the house perfectly on my first try, so that I finished the daily routine without having to move any furniture! Perhaps my real-life small apartment experience gave me an advantage :). I kinda wish there was some score at the end based on how many moves you made, it might be fun trying to optimize and find the most efficient furniture arrangement.

The art style is wonderful. I like the drab colors combined with the clean, simple shapes. The music was a great fit, too. The sound effect volume seemed slightly too loud, which is a shame because I wanted to hear the music.

The interface was the biggest issue. I tried the post-jam version and it's certainly an improvement, but it still was pretty clunky. Honestly, I think I would rather have just played the game with keyboard controls instead of mouse controls. I was also a little bit confused by some of the red square while placing furniture. It seemed like some areas near the walls would just randomly turn red and not allow me to place furniture.

I did like the idea of splitting the game between a "placement" phase and an "action phase", with limited maneuvering during the latter. When I was initially arranging the furniture, I assumed that the family would just move around automatically through the house. The idea of shuffling around furniture and people is pretty cool, and I wish there were a few more levels that forced you to start doing that.

It also might have been interesting if the player had to directly control the family during the second phase. So, if you want to push/pull objects, you actually have to walk a family member over to it. Maybe heavier objects could even require 2 people?

Anyways, I love the idea, and it's a great use of the theme. Despite the issues I had, I would love to see a larger, more-polished version!

omarshehata 2017-05-16 01:56

I absolutely love everything about this game! This is definitely a 5/5 from me all over.

I love the take on the theme, how in a large way our home can be "our world". I like that you don't place any limits on where you can place things (like it doesn't force you to leave space to reach things), but you realize you can't get places after you've settled in and moved everything in.

I also just love the sound effects and music and the whole aesthetic of everything (and I laughed when the humans were heaved just like the furniture).

I would definitely love to keep playing a longer version of this. I think what would keep it interesting was more funny situations where you get stuck, so both humor, story and puzzle could make this really fun (but I could see it get a little bland if it's just a series of odd configurations of flats).

I think some things that made a little frustrating was the fact that the mouse pointer doesn't lock, so sometimes I can't move a piece of furniture far enough because my screen isn't big enough (even with the post-jam version).

rodrigo-denubila 2017-05-16 04:45

Very good idea! I like the way you fit the theme. Well done!

is there a mac build for this game?
