LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Dig Hard by petey123567 2014-05-04T06:19:00

This is one of the most fun entries I've played yet. Awesome job!

Beneath by gritfish 2014-05-09T07:45:00

Kind of interesting, but doesn't quite feel like a challenge.

Helevenium by alvivar 2014-04-29T06:17:00

I liked the sound effects for combat, and the background music sets the mood. The second screen was already too hard for me though...

Super Drill Defense+TM by PIXEL^3 2014-05-09T07:50:00

Nice game! I wish there were upgrades or different types of enemies!

Tenkosei ROBO by radmars 2014-05-09T07:59:00

Bahaahah that was pretty amusing. Good work!

Terror of the depths by paranoiks 2014-05-19T07:46:00

Why is the guy throwing black squares at me? :O

Under the Sun by anton 2014-05-02T06:57:00

That first pit is hard to get past...

Underwater Flappy Alien by jitendragarg 2014-05-19T07:40:00

The collision effect is a nice touch!

House of Clouds by Azzar 2014-05-04T06:06:00

Pretty nice. I bluescreened after a while though...

Dr. Pepsi Marriage Consultant by Thingo Studios 2014-05-04T03:59:00

Bahahahah.

Planet Corp. by Maschinen-Mensch 2014-05-04T20:12:00

Nice game concept! I wish it came with music and an upgrade system. I like the sfx.

Rat King by woodenrabbit 2014-05-04T04:07:00

Mice are stupid and don't know how to walk to safety and instead get lost off the bottom of the screen. Nice little game though! :D

In The Caves by Clinthoney 2014-05-19T07:20:00

Not bad for a first entry!

Frack You by Candyhandy 2014-05-02T06:27:00

Bahahah the idea behind this game is pretty amusing! I enjoyed it.

Bubble Cannon by Acuity 2014-04-29T16:37:00

Thanks for the feedback! I haven't learned how to make menus or a separate screen yet, so I didn't put in a win/lose condition...

I'll work on making my future games much more game-like! :D

Bubble Cannon by Acuity 2014-05-04T06:22:00

Thanks for the comments and feedback! For another entry with awesome music, check out Ripple Runner by DDRKirby(ISQ)!

A bot is sinking by Melondonut 2014-05-19T07:27:00

It felt like the story needed more branches to me, but otherwise interesting.

ECHO THE DOGEFIN RESCUES FLIGHT MH371 by matt_j 2014-05-04T20:23:00

Simple, but pretty fun. Nice sfx and music, too!

Worm Quest by kill0u 2014-05-19T07:24:00

Game is interesting, but I don't like the worm noise. :P

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Space Rails by JonathanG 2014-09-15T22:12:00

Music is pretty chill, and gameplay is interesting!

Chalinkamachoo by commanderstitch 2014-09-08T00:43:00

Odd game, I couldn't figure out how to fire the second weapon, maybe it failed?

ConnectTheWorlds by mrexcessive 2014-09-08T02:58:00

Pretty neat game! My only complaint is about the "you're doing something wrong" sound that plays when I click something I'm not allowed to click (like a greyed out planet or the burn button when my engine settings reset).

Spectral Sniper by Acuity 2014-09-15T22:05:00

Thanks for all the feedback! Sorry for forgetting to include a link to the source code - I think I put the correct link to the dropbox now...

Been really busy recently, still have to finish rating games.

I have lots of ideas for some sort of post-compo version, but it will be a while before I finish learning what I need to know to write it. Maybe next compo I'll be able to write a complete game with a win condition rather than just cool game mechanics and music...

Tektix by PriorBlue 2014-09-08T01:56:00

I played the Hektik part, couldn't figure out how to play the Taktik part (do I need more people?) Seems interesting.

All In Your Head by TheZiggy 2014-09-15T22:16:00

It's pretty hard hard to get past the first screen... and then the second screen bugged out and scrolled far past my character and I ended up dying. Pretty frustrating...

Grow your Planet by Natrium729 2014-09-08T00:49:00

I like the hand-drawn art, but it's hard to figure out what to do in the very beginning.

Planet Jumper by Hot Box Games 2014-09-08T00:57:00

My first game started on a planet with nothing nearby. Not knowing how to zoom out yet... I just jumped off into space and died at the edge of the screen.

Well... I've made something... by prof 2014-09-08T02:40:00

The music was pretty decent. I liked the overall concept, but couldn't figure out how to get more money so I can upgrade my ship.

Out Of Place by HisShoes 2014-09-08T02:48:00

Great music, and interesting concept. Jumping next to a wall was a little bit frustrating, since it stops all of my momentum sometimes. It also was hard to tell what blocks I could stand on and what I couldn't, but I guess that's part of the artistic value of the game.

Stardust CroMonschter by whack47 2014-09-08T02:34:00

Web link usually should mean it is playable from within the browser. The game itself seems pretty complete, only problem I have is that some of the 3-star times seem near impossible.

Escape Earth by The Lag Pack 2014-09-15T21:59:00

I wasn't sure if the game ended when I reached the 2nd level of the bridge...

Space Fight 3000 by teamawesome 2014-09-15T21:47:00

I expected more realistic gravitation when it said "physics-based", but not bad. Reminds me of Gravitee Wars without the cool projectile equations.

Wedding Simulator by vandriver 2014-09-15T21:34:00

lolwat

Planetary Boundaries by small trouble 2014-09-15T22:25:00

It doesn't seem like I can lose, and I wish I could stop moving. Not bad though.

Junguntur by Fazz 2014-09-15T21:28:00

Simple puzzle game, but still enough to keep me interested.

gardians by Norgg 2014-09-15T21:55:00

Pretty confusing for me to figure out what to do early on. The controls are also a little too sensitive, and I get motion sick easily on 3-D games...

Mage's Tower by marudziik 2014-09-15T21:40:00

This was pretty clever. I got drunk early.

Worlds Together by mklee 2014-09-15T22:22:00

Pretty neat concept! I imagine peaceful piano music being played along with a game like this. Also took me a while to figure out that I needed to mess up to spawn the 2nd world.

Invaduhrs by bigbadwofl 2014-09-15T21:31:00

Music is decent, and I like the visuals! Pretty good game overall.

Switch by hungyg 2014-09-15T21:50:00

Good music and neat concept! Wish there were more levels!

One World Order by Blanky 2014-09-15T21:24:00

Didn't really feel like a game to me...

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Serenity by rxi 2014-12-10T02:48:00

I liked the way the water muffled the music and sounds! I got stuck for a while because I didn't visit the room with the snowman. I also couldn't figure out whether or not I could die to the enemies, I just spammed shoot and was okay.

Kazee ! by jpcote 2014-12-10T04:03:00

Wahah, nice game! It took me a while to figure out how damage worked...

Just Dance Dance Discotron Central: Cobra War by RobotLovesKitty 2014-12-12T05:54:00

Wahahahahh this is the best!

Mantis breaks the Rules by Gaspard_ 2014-12-12T06:46:00

I can't tell if I won or lost. Music was pretty nice!

Kerfuffle by rabbit 2014-12-12T05:43:00

This is pretty neat, it's like the sword slapping in my game but it actually works!

No Space for Error by Kwask 2014-12-12T06:15:00

I couldn't tell if this was supposed to have sound, but it is interesting.

Gratification Crisis by zorfmorf 2014-12-12T06:41:00

Interesting, but a little repetitive.

ONE WORLD - DEFENSE OF THE SACRED SHRINE by CornflowerBlue 2014-12-12T07:13:00

This is pretty nice! I think the upgrades could have more balance though, the slime and friend were not very good, but the turrets are great!

HeadButters by brombatti 2014-12-12T06:07:00

Would have been nice if there were indicators for which powerups you picked up, but this is REALLY fun!

Fight, Because. by Tortoise 2014-12-10T02:54:00

The music is pretty fitting, and the sfx went pretty well with the game! I liked that you get three different attacks!

Helga Kills Everything by mutatedsoftware 2014-12-09T04:28:00

I like the art! And your hitboxes work well, unlike the ones in my game. :P

Peaceful Night by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2014-12-12T06:53:00

This was a bit repetitive, but interesting concept.

virOS by Antworks Studio 2014-12-09T04:24:00

I couldn't quite figure out what the trash can was supposed to do - I doubleclicked it and got swarmed.

Infinifall by Bloxri 2014-12-10T03:41:00

I liked the music! The guy's "I got hit" sound effect is kinda funny. I also couldn't figure out why the cracked rocks were hurting me...?

Labyrinth by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2014-12-10T03:51:00

The screen swap effect and sound is still awesome every time. Music is amazing, as expected. :)

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Kiwi Jelly Boy by boddiul 2015-04-25T08:01:00

I liked the intro video lol

Cheeseburger (in Paradise) by Just_delete_it 2015-04-25T07:34:00

The rap sounds pretty legit, but needs a better backbeat. :P

Shopping Riot by Incinious 2015-04-25T07:55:00

It was hard to tell what items I picked up at times. Funny game though! :D

Hazardisc by JerryLeeLodbrok 2015-04-25T07:46:00

Jumping was a little awkward, but this was pretty neat.

LD33 — You are the Monster

Blobara (Meets the Redshirts) by alexfalkenberg 2015-08-26T07:19:00

I hope you plan to add music and sfx! The graphics and controls seem to work.

Trump 3016 by sorlok 2015-09-14T01:04:00

Hahahah interesting. I actually like the overall feel of the game! Attacking seems kind of inconsistent, I can't figure out why I'm dealing "NULL" damage a lot.

Airhorn Monster by Acuity 2015-10-17T00:48:00

Thanks for the comments! Song is now available on my soundcloud! (although a bit late..)
https://soundcloud.com/acuitynpc/airhornmonster

FFF by Squid Blink Games 2015-08-26T05:42:00

LOL I like the humor in this!

Gammonster by sikosis 2015-08-26T07:13:00

It's a little hard to tell where I'm supposed to land when I roll a number.

The Boulder Monster by Rob Glen 2015-09-14T01:17:00

The targeting system is neat, and I liked the 8-bit art.

Rise of Dionegios by Cerberus 2015-08-26T07:09:00

The game would be more satisfying if there was sound when I crush buildings. Also, the tree regen takes a little too long.

Dark Howl by Kakureta 2015-09-14T01:47:00

I don't like that you respawn all the way at the beginning of the level when you fall. Not bad though.

Devil's Avocado by DeadFragment 2015-09-14T01:56:00

Interesting game. I couldn't quite understand what some of the requests were ("set Stephen on fire?"), but I like the mechanics. The music was pretty good, too.

Sea Hunter by scottredrup 2015-09-14T01:08:00

Hrmm... the shark moves a little too fast, and there are still some graphical errors. Good job on making a tutorial sequence and menu though - that's something I need to start doing in my entries...

Melody Muncher by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2015-08-26T05:38:00

Amazing, as expected.

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Prisoners' Dilemma by jrc03c 2016-01-03T19:08:00

I found this really interesting! Also cool that you can hear the next players' knocks after you die.

Grow Your Love by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2015-12-16T03:03:00

360 No Scope Kissing Simulator 10/10.

The Eye of Osiris by StoneMonkeyStudios 2016-01-01T05:40:00

That was pretty cool. I couldn't figure out what the powerups did until later - would be nice to have a small explanation pop up for each one.

Beardgrow by esayitch 2015-12-31T18:47:00

Wahahah this was funny.

Investocorp by ickmiester 2015-12-19T07:36:00

Dividends seem OP... I was making around $150k a week off of one successful company.

I liked the concept, although it took me a while to figure out what I needed to do.

Arc by ChuiGum 2015-12-19T07:24:00

Interesting concept, but not sure if it is really related to either theme..

bullet hell web game thingy (but really, it's a pretty ok game) by peyj 2015-12-19T08:09:00

Definitely fits both themes, simple but clean game. I wish there was music with it!

ZORC by Andrew Deem 2015-12-16T06:30:00

Pretty neat idea! The gameplay was a bit slow due to having to switch back and forth so often, but I like the concept!

Zen Jen by fluidvolt 2015-12-31T18:41:00

Interesting experience, but I couldn't figure out how to get the multiple streams of 3 square blocks that travel really fast.

I liked your art style!

Linear Algebra Shooter by ALobker 2015-12-31T21:06:00

Took a while for me to figure out which gun to use... Been too long since I've done linear algebra.

Spectral Sprinter by Acuity 2015-12-29T22:50:00

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!

When I have time, I'll have to polish some of this a bit. I also want to do a little bit more with the "enemy", and attempt to add a tutorial for a post-compo version.

The Seed by Geckoo1337 2015-12-31T23:57:00

It was a little hard to figure out how to progress, and the sound effects scared me a bit.

Super Space Invader by BlackBulletIV 2016-01-01T03:59:00

Not bad, sound effects are crisp.

The Days of Christmas by Sam Twidale 2016-01-01T05:29:00

I expected music to go with the song with the description, but this seems kinda cool.

From the Deep by scorched 2016-01-01T05:26:00

The island growing sound was a little loud, but neat concept. Kind of frustrating to do the jumps sometimes though..

blackfisk by Acerio 2016-01-01T04:11:00

Pretty cool! The shot sound is a little loud and jarring though, but I like the music!

The Fastest Trigger In The West by Folztarg 2016-01-01T02:55:00

That was pretty cool - kinda hard though.

Partners in Crime by trozen 2015-12-16T06:37:00

Hahah nice! The car chase while sneaking minigame is a bit hard...

Snakes On A Continuous Plane by zesterer 2015-12-31T19:01:00

Definitely fit's the theme. The red buff seems overpowered, and can reset the game back to the start state.

Bacterial by PlymouthJam 2016-01-01T05:20:00

Pretty interesting, but I had trouble launching it at first..

Push First [The Legend of the Farmer] by PushFirst 2015-12-31T18:56:00

Wahah not bad. Some next level strats are possible to put multiple traps down close together..

GURU by TomenLuca 2015-12-19T07:47:00

Cleverly designed card game! Took me a while to understand what to do, but the game itself is fun once I figured it out.

LD35 — Shapeshift

Clothes by Noah Ratcliff 2016-05-09T19:21:00

Hahahah the graphics are absurd in a really funny way. I couldn't quite figure out an objective though.

Tommy is the Shapeshifter by ashdnazg 2016-05-09T19:39:00

YES the voice acting!!!!

Sub Dragon by deepnight 2016-05-09T19:45:00

This is a really cool concept! It's hard for me to control the dragon the way I want it to though - I think my head wants to operate in tangential coordinates instead of absolute (as in W always moves forwards and A and D would "turn")

The Ooze by Danman9914 2016-05-08T00:32:00

This was a really cool puzzle concept! I liked the different mechanics that were put in.

My screen turned white at the end, I think that might mean I beat the game? Overall really good!

You Are What You Eat by MagnesiumNinja 2016-05-09T19:26:00

Okay, this was a REALLY cool entry. And the tutorial flowed pretty well, too!

Sheep Shift by A-Flat Miner Studios 2016-04-25T05:51:00

Interesting! Somehow most of the sheep spawned in the last shape (Triangle) and I got it in 4 seconds...

RPS (no graphics) by Javabot 2016-05-09T19:31:00

Kinda neat concept, but it took me a while to figure out what everything did.

Shicken by Saiodin 2016-05-09T20:10:00

I found a bug! If you let the rock drop on you on the 2nd level, the rock becomes intangible afterwards...

This is a cool game though. Good stuff!

Egg Clegger by pythong 2016-05-07T23:00:00

The scaling on the prices makes it much more economical to just spambuy the clegger. I think what you needed to make the decision more interesting is to make the price increase as you buy more of one thing.

Nyamo's Adventure by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2016-04-19T06:06:00

I really liked how the music and the setting fit together! My favorite song is the one in the area where you get the spring form. I only got 40/51, and then found the end of the game (maybe I should've backtracked before going through the final door area
?) Good stuff!

Nyamo's Adventure by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2016-04-19T06:39:00

Got 51/51! Pressing Enter at the end of the game does new game+, so you can go back and collect everything else!

Aftertile by LOSTALLOY 2016-05-08T00:47:00

Music was nice, and I liked the ghost sprite.

Agent Shift by jollyserpent 2016-05-09T19:14:00

Pretty interesting game. Took me a while to get a good grasp on the objective, but the tutorial sure helped! Nice to see another card game!

LD38 — A Small World

Not Enough Space by mactinite 2017-05-13T23:51:19Z

I also only got to play with two players, I think my main complaint is that the "throw" feels a lot more like you're just dropping the bomb. If you run in one direction and throw the bomb, you end up blowing yourself up...

The game itself is fun though, I think if the throw went a bit further and didn't rely on your running momentum, it could make the gameplay a bit more exciting!

Earth Quest by Jiri_One 2017-05-16T06:09:14Z

The music loop is a little too short and feels repetitive really quickly. I think it's an interesting concept, but it's hard to tell what each of the resources does right off the bat (it seems like light increases happiness, and trees increase oxygen?) I couldn't figure out what the thing next to the tree does, and sometimes removing trees makes happiness go up? It's nice that you have a tutorial at the beginning, but I think it would help more if you explained what each of the resources were, too.

Good concept though!

Protolife by icxon 2017-05-16T06:02:45Z

Hrm, pretty interesting concept! It took me a while to figure out what it meant by "build and antibody," it didn't occur to me to look along the side to see what it meant! After understanding how the game worked, I tried again and made it to the 4th stage, but lost really quickly on that one. The game itself is pretty fun! I would suggest maybe a less clunky way of picking up parts of antibodies that aren't shooting at anything, but maybe that's part of the challenge. Overall interesting game!

Planetary Escape by w1n5t0n 2017-05-13T21:05:04Z

I died by crashing into a planet during the tutorial before learning that I need to press space again to "latch back on". The game seems simple but okay - I wish the orbital mechanics were more complicated than just going in a circle, even if you're going head on into the planet. Also, it sucks that I can get hit by my own laser! D:

Raven Delivery Service by DDRKirbyISQ 2017-05-06T23:26:11Z

Pretty fun game - reminds me of Overcooked a lot! It kind of fits the theme, and the small floating island with trees makes it fit a bit better. Your music is awesome as always!

Space Brawls by jcsirron 2017-05-13T22:58:00Z

It's really hard to tell where the projectiles are going to go - maybe I'm not accounting for some of the other objects with mass very well. It also feels like there's a lack of control because you can't choose where you shoot from, and you have to wait to slowly revolve around your planet until the right angle - it would be nice if you could control where you are with the left and right arrow keys.

Still decently fun to play!

Quest Island by bentglasstube 2017-05-16T06:30:25Z

This was interesting, but I couldn't find any vittles for the NPCs that I found. The world also was really big, and it was hard to keep track of where things were! The music was cool though, and I liked the sound effects when you talked to things. It also was frustratingly hard to talk to the NPC - they move away so fast, and sometimes you're not facing the right way either! The game looks pretty cool, but I couldn't figure out how to progress. :(

Terraform by ijzm 2017-05-17T00:56:55Z

I really like the night music! This kind of game is fun, although I couldn't figure out what the buildings did (only found out after reading other comments). It would be nice to have a sound effect when you get hit by the enemy at night though - it took me a bit to realize I was taking damage! It also took me a while to figure out how building placement works - it'd be nice to have a little indicator of what you're gonna build and how big it'll be after you pick it, and whether or not it'll fit with the other stuff around, maybe like building in RTS games.

Still, solid entry! I played this for quite a while!

Any chance you could also rate my game? It's a difficult (in a bad way, I need to put in checkpoints) platformer with decent music! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/spike-spire

Apocalypse World Cup by Issac 2017-05-13T22:07:01Z

Hahahah this is awesome! I really like the world being tied in to how the ball is behaving. It's pretty hard to score though - I played this with a friend and had a blast!

Avaricious Abyss by DreamingDice 2017-05-16T07:36:06Z

Hrmm... it's a little hard to figure out where to go to progress. The first few times I played, I would encounter some really hard enemy that I would have no chance to kill and just die. One time, I got kinda far on the ranged attack with movespeed passive character, and found a human house and destroyed it, and then I found another one, but couldn't kill the humans fast enough (they kept spawning) and then something reverted me back to level 1 and I died. The gameplay mechanics seem to make sense, but combat seems pretty difficult and I don't know how to destroy houses if there are too many humans.

I like your music a lot! (Shameless plug, please check out and rate [my game] (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/spike-spire), I made the music myself too!)

drone by atmospherium 2017-05-17T17:43:23Z

This is pretty neat! There are so many different keys to try, I had a lot of fun playing around with it.

Small World Fighters by noddingTortoise 2017-05-13T22:15:53Z

Man, this was pretty fun. The jump is a little wonky, and it's hard to tell where you're going to respawn after dying, but it was pretty fun to play though!

From robots with love by Guillaume Voisinet 2017-05-13T22:37:53Z

My friend DDRKirby(ISQ) found some exploitable strategies! The player controlling the box can turn it in a way such that everything is off camera! It also is possible to get everything stuck in one corner, making it almost impossible to get the globe.

Overall REALLY fun game though!

Pie Planet : Octopus flavour by Bomb-X 2017-05-16T06:23:24Z

This is pretty cool! But I got stuck at the point where the tutorial told me to remove an alien, I couldn't figure out which building to build, so I built ones that had alien in the name, but the tutorial got stuck from there. I also ran out of trees because I never built a forest cutter...

Very neat concept though, I think I would enjoy playing it more if it were easier to tell what resources I had and what the resource cost for everything is! The font was a little too small and hard to read.

Spike Spire by Acuity 2017-05-15T16:38:32Z

Thanks for all the comments so far!

As suggested by many of you, adding a checkpoint would definitely improve the difficulty and reduce frustration, I still haven't found the time to figure out the code for that (have to save coordinates to respawn the player at the right location, and remove and make a new player object I think?). I definitely will try to figure this out because I'll need checkpoints if I want to make a longer platformer like this.

And yea, @antti-haavikko the jump is a little bit floaty and the spikes are just square hitboxes (which might be why it feels so punishing). I'll have to think about how to change around parameters next time to make things still work out and feel smoother.

Spike Spire by Acuity 2017-05-16T20:49:02Z

Thanks for the platformer guide, @icxon! I'll definitely draw some stuff from this when I make tweaks and upgrades. And thanks for all the comments, everyone! I'll definitely have to plan a less frustrating and more fun game next time!

Spike Spire by Acuity 2017-05-17T06:57:58Z

Thanks for the comments and ratings, everybody!

@sgstair Whoa, thanks for streaming! I didn't realize how hard some of the jumps are since I've played each one many times to test - definitely good insight for me to see your stream!

@random-storykeeper Oh yea, I remember you from the last few OHCs I participated in! I haven't been able to participate in quite a while, but maybe I can pop in again sometime. Yea, my game definitely could use checkpoints (that's the next thing I'm going to figure out when I add to this), and I think the metre in the music is something like 3 3 2 in a measure, which is pretty much like 3 followed by 5 like you said. And huh, I didn't realize the death sound was that loud, I'll have to scale it down in the future! And yea, the controls are a bit sensitive, and the spikes are unforgiving, I'll have to tone it down! Thanks for commenting!

The Land We Must Take (La Terre qu'il nous faut conquérir) by kavehes 2017-05-13T23:41:13Z

This was a really interesting game! It's a little bit hard to figure out how things worked until mid game. The camera view is also a bit difficult - the game would be much easier to play if it was just flat instead of a globe, but that makes it fit the theme, I guess.

It's really interesting thinking about where you want to put cities and bases in order to exploit tiles, and take an area for yourself.

The blind combat mechanic is cool, but if the game is not at point where you don't have 2 tanks per turn, the attacker gets an overwhelming advantage.

(Also my friend broke that and somehow entered a number over the number of tanks he had, his post is soon).

Draw a Small World by ryan 2017-05-16T07:41:31Z

Pretty neat tool! I ended up with my animal eating the tree, and producing smoke clouds from it!

Draw a scene.png

This is fun!

Warpy's World by Nilanjan 2017-05-16T07:20:26Z

Hmm, this seems really neat, but I can't quite figure out how the mechanics work. Holding shift spawns the ghost cat, and then it starts floating upwards to the top of the screen after a while? And then I can just walk through the broken hearts with the ghost cat and get to the door? I'm still a little confused. I really like the art style for the game though! It might be good to have a bit of clarification on how the mechanics and controls are meant to work.

Mr. UN and the small world village by JulianMH 2017-05-16T20:44:02Z

This is pretty cool! The upgrade system is neat, and I like the music that it has, although it doesn't seem to loop.

Please rate my game, too! I'm barely under 20 ratings still! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/spike-spire

Depth by CreamyBacon2 2017-05-16T06:59:33Z

Really creative concept! I love the mechanic! The problem I have is that I can't figure out how to beat the game. I collected all the chest things, and I can shoot green squares, but there's no end even when you reach the lock on the bottom floor. It'd be cool to see where this goes in the future though!

Bubblenaut by TheFunAttic 2017-05-13T21:28:26Z

This is really well made! I did find a bug on the third level though - you can get stuck in between the spikes like in the screenshot! I ended up having to close the game to restart. The level design and art is nice, and I liked that there was a tutorial.

Glitched into the wall.png

Den by La mecanique du plastique 2017-05-16T07:47:46Z

P.O.R.T. J.O.Y.S. - 1 part twitch gameplay, 2 parts rad acronym by sayumeki 2017-05-06T23:29:31Z

I just barely made it to where the rooms started rotating and lost everything! It's a decent design and could be a great rhythm game if there was more music. The indicator arrows are nice to orient yourself on the controls early on.

Ain't Big Enough by gustavo.christino 2017-05-13T22:27:31Z

Oh man, this was pretty fun! The intro video is hype!

I dueled my friend for a few games, and we had to figure out what the powerups actually did. The jump is a little bit slow and hard to dodge bullets with, it could use a bit of work.

One neat thing you could add is bullet holes for the guy that won equal to how many times they got hit (kind of like a "this is the state of the game at the end" kind of thing).

Overall, I had a good time playing this!

High Noon Robots by RoxXx88 2017-05-13T22:46:56Z

This was pretty fun, I liked the shield mechanic and the ricocheting bullets! But yea, like other people have mentioned, it's hard to see what's going on because the camera doesn't turn when you turn around, it's hard to see what you're trying to shoot at if they're coming from the other side of the screen.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Magneto De Liquidus by Ajayajayaj 2018-05-14T06:11:19Z

This is a pretty interesting concept, but the game is really difficult! I got as far as the "extreme" level, but it's a little too difficult. The first level itself took a long time for me to get.

Heart of the Cards by Neon 2018-05-14T06:29:20Z

Pretty cool concept! I can't play first person games for too long due to motion sickness, but I like the card aspect of it! I did find that just running past the enemies into the next room just spawned more enemies, and I ended up lagging out because of it - it might be good to put doors that lock until you kill all the enemies. Also, it's harder to aim without a crosshair - could be a good thing to include.

WITCHSΔVER by Tymus 2018-05-10T07:34:19Z

Whoa, this is pretty cool! The game freezes during the broom minigame, unfortunately! I like the music and the art and everything - it was a bit troublesome to get it to work as a screensaver - I'd definitely like it more as a normal game (but I guess that's to fit the theme). Good work!

[My game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/blackjack-beats) still needs some ratings, please check it out if you have time!

Elite Beat Zombygons by Archimagus 2018-04-27T03:36:57Z

Ooh, this is pretty neat! I did find that you could double move sometimes on the beat. Really neat concept, I love rhythm games (my entry also is a rhythm game, but a reallly basic attempt at a bare bones rhythm game, first one I've made).

Also, it congratulated me for dying! I found that pretty funny! :D

Goodnight Meowmie by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-04-27T03:09:39Z

Whoa, I didn't expect your entry to be a horror game! My hair was on end during all the exploring parts, the ambiance definitely fit well. I liked that the first room locked the door and forced you to backtrack for a key, and then the footsteps! Also, that first eye monster + its loud sound got me good. I can't say that I liked the unsettling music outside of the room, but it was really well done.

I guess in terms of stuff I encountered in my playthrough - it took me a while to realize at the very beginning that you were supposed to sleep in the bed to progress the night, and I also couldn't immediately see that there was space to walk around the first eye monster.

Overall, good job.

Cryptarch by juxipolo 2018-05-09T22:56:16Z

The art is great! It took me a while to understand the battle system, and it seems like you're heavily incentivized to just use fight, and use the flashlight before the enemy hits you. The fights against the 8 hp spirits felt a bit tedious, I only deal 1 damage per success, whereas they do 3 when the choose to attack. Also, I didn't understand why sometimes it asks for a check during the fight, but other times it just lets me do the action without a check.

I wish there was more, but I guess only so much content can be made during the timeline!

Golf with Guns by Issac 2018-05-09T23:28:34Z

Hahahahah yes! This is so funny! I think my only complaint is that if one of the two balls goes out of bounds, you have to restart with both, which was a bit frustrating. This is really fun though!

Super Soup Slicer by chriiis88 2018-05-14T06:34:20Z

Not bad, solid game! I like the little bounce the vegetables have when you slice them, and the sound effects work pretty well.

Love Love! Space Attack by Random-storykeeper 2018-05-10T00:28:37Z

Hahah this is pretty fun! I couldn't get anywhere close to winning. The 4th stage (or when the dudes with the tentacles spawn) seemed to be where it got a bit too hard to dodge some bullet patterns. I liked that Ren Aishi's expression changes depending on your choice/when you get hit, that was a nice touch. The music was nice and peaceful. I think I'd want the dating sim questions to happen more often so it'd be easier to experience that aspect of the game more often. Overall good job!

GHOST JOB by paulhocker 2018-04-27T05:52:29Z

Hmm... this was an interesting idea, but I think it could use more polish. The sound effect for the "3" is really loud compared to the others, I'd suggest balancing it a little bit. Also, the spider is really hard to use properly. The music was pretty nice!

Harvest Doom by Fiote 2018-04-30T06:15:27Z

Whoa, this is a really awesome concept! I'm not sure if I found a bug - I couldn't turn in some of the requests - it would show 0 of the vegetable even though I had 5. I had fun playing this though. I might try again to see if I can replicate the bug. Good work!

Edit: I played through again and didn't run into the issue I had the first time - no idea why it didn't register some of the vegetables that time. This is a great game! I like the music and I noticed a bit more of the details in the art. I'd keep playing, but I gotta rate other games to try to get more attention to mine!

Tetris Escape 2D by scottthoo 2018-04-27T03:24:03Z

This is pretty cool! I did find that the other tetris pieces behaved a bit strangely - it was kind of exploitable! I beat the game by kinda... bouncing my way to the pink block at the end instead of climbing legitimately hahah. I also didn't find the boss (but maybe because I skipped part of the climb on the final stage?) I like the title music - is the music original?

Blackjack Beats by Acuity 2018-04-30T06:44:31Z

@derek-wilson Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I do feel the same with the gameplay being a bit limited because it had to be done to the rhythm - I couldn't figure out a good way to integrate the rhythm aspect more to it. I could think about putting in a sandbox mode where you can just play blackjack, and have each action have a different sound effect!

Blackjack Beats by Acuity 2018-05-09T22:24:13Z

@Random-storykeeper Hello, thanks for the detailed feedback! Yeah, this was just a very bare bones rhythm game (basically I wanted to make sure you could do something to a basic beat that syncs with a song). I thought about making a more complicated beatmap in the future, as well as maybe ideas on what to do with the rhythm to make it more interesting. I'll work on some post compo polish later, but haven't had much time recently - I still have to play and rate more games to get more ratings! I saw that you have an entry for LD 41, too - I'll check out your game later today!

Blackjack Beats by Acuity 2018-05-11T00:54:55Z

@Talonos Thanks for the feedback! The betting component just determined whether or not you won back 20 chips or if you lost your bet of 10. And yea, I didn't have time to implement doubling or splitting (plus I wasn't sure about the layout of everything yet, whether or not I'd have enough space to have extra hands). I used FL Studio to make the music - I used to do One Hour Composition pretty regularly, so I'm used to writing songs under a time limit! I will upload the song to my soundcloud soon, for anyone interested in downloads.

Blackjack Beats by Acuity 2018-05-14T07:01:25Z

@DDRKirbyISQ Whoa, that's pretty high! Thanks for trying out the game!

BEAT KILLER by Dragojt 2018-04-27T06:24:46Z

Ooh, this is pretty cool! It was kind of hard to see which arrow was falling, since they fall all over the place, instead of consistently in the same area. Using rhythm to attack is a really cool concept, though! It could be even better with more music and different sound effects with the attacks. Either way, this was really fun to play!

Check out my rhythm game if you have time - I made a simple [blackjack rhythm game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/blackjack-beats).

Idle Shooter by NicMagnier 2018-05-09T23:50:19Z

Pretty good game! The game got so difficult it was unplayable - I needed more run speed, but the skull enemies would just chase me down and kill me before I could do anything. Maybe make the penalty for dying a bit less than losing all of your money, so players that didn't go a good tech route can still progress in the game. Otherwise, this was still overall pretty fun to play.

Crazy Cube by YANIV 2018-05-14T06:43:30Z

Pretty cool concept! It's definitely hard to keep track of where the numbers are, but I liked that you had to shoot things with the right number to get them.

One More Arm by MaximBegunov 2018-05-09T23:03:55Z

This is pretty cool! It took me a bit to figure out that you could hold space to hover - that made dodging some things much easier. Good music, too! I haven't gotten lucky enough to get a triple yet, it'd be nice if the chances of the triple enemies was higher. Overall, pretty creative take on the theme!

Star Battle Poker by Urban Logic Games 2018-05-09T23:15:05Z

Hahah man, this is so fun! The scaling of how much you get to do after you win seems a little bit high - almost any hand with betting could end up being overkill. The dialogue in between each battle was very funny! It also was very clear whose turn it is, and what your available actions are. Overall great job!

SoccerTurn by Tiberiusuciu 2018-04-27T06:08:25Z

This is pretty cool! I just played it with @sayumeki. It's a little bit hard to get the ball around efficiently, but maybe I'm just bad at positioning players well for soccer. It also was a little frustrating that sometimes the player would move only a little bit, and other times they would move much further - you won't know how much you get for your move. The UI was also pretty clear - the camera centers on the player, and the player has an outline highlight, which is good.

I really like the Ludum Dare 41 logo you put in the backwall of the stage! Very nice touch!

Cardbound by Silvae 2018-05-09T22:36:32Z

Ooh, this was pretty cool! It took me a while to figure out some of the puzzles, but I eventually beat all 3 stages. I liked how you get to pause to make your decision. It would've been nice if there was a way to zoom out to see more of the stage during the pause screen. If you have time, please check out my entry, I still need ratings! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/blackjack-beats

SeaDogs by NotSpaghettiGames 2018-05-14T06:39:27Z

Not bad, but pretty difficult game. Sometimes too many chores spawn at the same time and I end up losing. The graphics are nice though.

Daxua by mainghia95 2018-04-30T06:40:03Z

Whoa, the art on this is really good! It took me a while to figure out how to do the combo, but the game played pretty well. The slow motion cutscenes were kind of fun to derp around during.

Bang Bang Revolution by Talonos 2018-05-10T00:15:34Z

Simple, but fun! My best score was 9. It's a little harder to make sure I can aim well. I like the looping song you picked for this!

I'm missing ratings on my entry still - please check out my simple [rhythm blackjack game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/blackjack-beats)!

Modern Bowlfare by Derek Wilson 2018-04-30T06:52:18Z

Hahahahah dude, this is awesome! I laughed so hard on the first grenade. It might be nice to have a trajectory guide or something for new players, some of the high shots were pretty difficult!

Fightin' Words - Real Typing Strategy by Eitrius 2018-04-30T06:56:37Z

This is pretty neat! It's definitely a bit hard to control your troop well, and I had some trouble seeing what was going on - everything felt very zoomed out. Nice game though!

BlockTide by Cyhzzz 2018-05-10T07:23:23Z

Ooh, this is pretty neat! I like that you can buy upgrades and earn money from killing the enemies. The artstyle and music are good, too! This could be pretty promising as a full game.

[My game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/blackjack-beats) still needs more ratings, any chance you could try it out?

NecroGolfer's Tomb by CosmicCrystalGames 2018-05-14T06:19:16Z

The graphics are pretty nice! Controls were kind of clunky, and it's a bit harder for someone like me who gets motion sick sometimes with first person controls. Concept is pretty innovative though! It'd be nice if there's a hole indicator - but the ball indicator is a good quality of life inclusion!

Numbness by Velocity7 2018-05-14T07:15:19Z

Nice job - this was a pretty fun take on the theme! The zoom in effect with the princess crying at the end of each level was pretty amusing.

Beet Farmer by oneseedfruit 2018-05-09T23:58:17Z

This is pretty cool, but I couldn't understand how to do a lot of the things. I was able to plant a few beets and get one, but I don't know where to turn in the beet.

Edit: I booted it again and got audio to work! Not bad! I also figured out - you have to feed yourself by putting completed beets in the left, and pay more money by putting completed beets in the right. Interesting!

Rhythm Card Hero by gogu 2018-04-27T05:37:52Z

This is a pretty cool concept! It's a little hard to tell on the spot what each card does, but I guess it comes with some practice. It would have been cool if there was music with the game, too - but I guess time is limited and it's hard to make music within the time limit. Good stuff!

Also, thanks for commenting on my rhythm card game! :)

The Fishing by Corbak 2018-04-30T06:01:00Z

Whoa, this was pretty fun! I found 75/76 gems before I found the anchor, which ended my game. I might have spent too much time in the early area, the music just stopped before I got to the deeper part where the music was more horror-esque. It would have been cool to have the music transition as you go deeper and deeper, instead of having the horror music play for the rest of the game once you go deep once. Overall, this is a solid game!

Proelium. by Markram 2018-05-14T06:59:50Z

This is a pretty good game! The sound effects were crisp and satisfying, especially the sword swing! And the music and storytelling are great. I didn't discover the door past the boss during my first playthrough, had to reload to "beat" the game after. Good work!

Divine Dungeoneering - A roguelite godgame by Tmvant 2018-04-30T05:46:37Z

Hmm... interesting concept. The flavor text was a nice touch!

Shot Thru The Heart by sheehan 2018-04-30T06:28:59Z

Hahah this was pretty funny. The spotter kept yelling at me for wasting bullets during the "waste your bullets" phase. The mouse tracking was a bit weird for me, even though I went fullscreen mode, too. The music was nice and funky.

Reverse by MrJake7X 2018-05-14T07:09:29Z

Graphics are really clean! I like the camera transition when you swap between the two characters. The level design and gameplay itself could use work, but I imagine this is only the start of the project. I look forward to what you have in store!

Shady Cards by Yozamu 2018-05-09T23:39:45Z

Pretty interesting take on the theme! I liked that it feels a lot like video poker, but it took me a bit to figure out what was counted as a valid hand (it didn't accept single pair hands that I had, and two pair was indicated as "pair" sometimes?). The platform part felt a little bit too easy - I could just run to the right and spam cards to collect chips. Poker is where the fun is at!

SURVABY by 0nironauta 2018-05-14T06:47:21Z

Hahahahahah this game is funny!

Helsing by davidsheadgames 2018-05-09T23:21:48Z

Pretty good atmosphere! I found the game itself to be a little bit clunky though - I couldn't fire the gun, and instead it became an extra life if I got attacked, I guess. sometimes a wolf would just kill me out of nowhere! The footsteps in the audio is a nice touch.

Super Ice-Cream Roller Ultra by Probe31 2018-05-10T00:09:41Z

Oh man, controlling the ice cream ball is pretty frustrating! The music and graphics are pretty nice though. And I really like the dying animation and splat whenever I fell off.. it made it a bit more funny whenever I died. Overall, I wish the controls were a bit more intuitive - I couldn't figure out why it was so hard to change directions.

Witch's Escape by cristiano.m.garcia 2018-05-10T00:41:50Z

Nice game! At first I thought the gameplay was easy because there was only one button, but the button combinations started coming and it got harder! I really like the art style for the characters, and the background and objects are all pretty detailed and well animated. Good work!

Please check out [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/blackjack-beats) if you have time - I still need ratings!
