LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Splendid Adventures on a Sunday Afternoon by blinry 2018-04-24T12:47:14Z

Absolutely loved it! Great combination of art, music and story.

Best Aspects: - All the cute drawings :) - The psycho trip - The whole atmosphere

Tips: - The progression seemed a bit unclear at times and I'm not sure if I have seen all the paths (especially in the psychadelic world where not every path is linear) and it's a shame to miss a page :). Maybe place markers at locations to a new page or give page numbers/count of how many you've visited out of all of them.

All in all one of the best games I've seen this LD so far!

Follow The Light by BloodJohn 2018-04-23T19:15:40Z

Beautiful graphics and a very smooth gameplay!

A small tip: It's not always to clear if I'm in the light or not and what still counts. It's not always an intuitive matching between the word appearing and being in the dark or light.

Besides that it's a great a well polished game!

R-Trooper Squad by SelfTitled 2018-04-23T19:09:18Z

Loved playing a match. When do you plan on releasing a single player campaign? ;)

Very fun concept! You have some time to think about your manouvers and the use of obstacles, while there still being fluidity in the motions of the game.

It's a shame you can't shoot over low walls though, but still very well done!

a new day dawns by Ovidios 2018-04-27T15:19:42Z

Very fun and complete game! It only took a few seconds to figure out how things were done (although I didn't read the instructions so I lost a lot of health the first night ^^).

Best aspects: - The theme mashup - The challenge of playing

Tips/Suggestions: - (Bug?) When selecting three spikes it deducted one move while not giving me anything. - Maybe speed up the night a bit or give me something to do. Because especially if you see you've made a mistake or are going to lose, it can be a slow watch.

All in all a really fun game, feels like a solid game I'd play on my phone when I have a spare moment :).

a new day dawns by Ovidios 2018-04-27T21:27:55Z

@Ovidios aah, I didn't notice the 4x thing. That's a nice quick fix at least :).

Crazy Pizza by Lucien Catonnet 2018-04-24T12:30:52Z

xD driving the car really cracked me up. It wasn't super smooth, but that kinda made it even better.

Best Aspects: - Driving the car

Tips/Suggestions: - The cooking side of things is a bit basic compared to the driving. Maybe add a timer and a score counter to see your progress or give the option to balance the ingredients of multiple pizzas. - (Bug) The car could drive off the map ;)

Platjectile by APTriangle 2018-04-24T12:15:22Z

Great start of a physics-puzzle game :). Would love to see a few more levels to find out how the complexity increases.

Best aspects: - The puzzles - The physics-based approach

Tips/Suggestions: - The movement is still a bit shaky and hard, you might want to tweak that to make it a bit smoother - More levels ;) - (Bug) The ball glitches through the first two pieces of wood in the 'precarious' level

Secrets of the Forest by DevEmil 2018-04-24T09:39:11Z

That was fun to play :). The graphics are well done and the sliding movement in particular is very satisfying. The long commands can be a bit tedious and errorprone at times, which slows down the game a bit, so I'd agree that shortforms or reusing commands like in a terminal is a great way to go to make it easier to play. I'd love to see what you'd make of extra levels and challenges :).

A Virtual Friend by frostdragonliz 2018-04-24T10:12:35Z

Nicely done! Didn't know feeding such a cutie would be so...shockingly rewarding :). Even after it didn't need my love anymore I still couldn't stop giving it babies to hug.

Best aspects: - The perfectly normalness of it. - Eye for detail, had a very good tamagitcho feel to it (dead pixels, etc.)

Tips/Suggestions: - The delay in buttons compared to the degration rate of the meters made it slightly stressful to play. While it might be a more enjoyable experience to not worry about timing to much and just see you lil' one grow.

All in all a fun, simple and surprising game.

ACCIDENTAL EXISTENTIAL by slovnoslomo 2018-04-24T12:59:00Z

Loved it! Fun to speculate about the meanings and to have three mini-existential debates. Very well polished game.

My ideas: 1. The absurdity and emptiness of the 'modern lifestyle' 2. The road of a self-destructive life 3. How easy it is to prioritize the short term wellbeing over responsibility over the long term.

It's short, which is both a shame and probably a good thing (it doesn't overload you with ideas), but very well made and I'd play a sequal in a heartbeat.

Divine Dungeoneering - A roguelite godgame by Tmvant 2018-04-23T18:56:12Z

@Eldemarkki Thanks for the feedback, I updated the movement slightly so that there a little bit less pressing of keys involved ;).

@amras0000 Thanks for the extensive review! I can understand the contrast issues, had some trouble with it without ruining the color-mood, but I'll be more careful next time.

Divine Dungeoneering - A roguelite godgame by Tmvant 2018-04-25T07:33:56Z

@Bitten Toast Games Pausing time when not moving sounds like a good idea yeah! It was something I couldn't quite put my finger on this time, but I'll definately keep that in mind for a next time :).

Divine Dungeoneering - A roguelite godgame by Tmvant 2018-04-27T14:57:17Z

@Toulou thanks for the review! :) I definately think that the roguelite part can be expanded on with enemies or traps or something. Didn’t have time for it this time, so maybe next time :)

Divine Dungeoneering - A roguelite godgame by Tmvant 2018-05-07T17:39:44Z

@JackLeHamster thanks for the review! Interesting to see the performance issues when you play it. On my system I didn't have that problem whatsoever (it's not really doing any heavy lifting), so it's definitely something to look out for next time :).

Typewriter Dungeon by Jaime Paz Lopes 2018-04-24T10:24:02Z

Nice short concept :). The typewriter sounds are very satisfying and the words are well chosen and add to the overall atmosphere.

Best aspects: - The words (choice of words and sounds)

Tip/Suggestions: - The graphics are a bit basic, maybe add a bit of lighting to match the overall tone a bit more. - Maybe make it so that you have to type the letters in the right order to make it even feel more as a typewriter.

All in all an interesting mashup and love the typewriter aspect.

Gun Appetit! by Nyunesu 2018-04-24T09:50:41Z

Fun little game. The music and the graphics really well emphasised the absurdity of the combination of the two genres. It's fun to play and a good challenge.

Best aspects - Graphics and music combination - Theme mashup - Smooth gameplay

Tips for improvement - I'd suggest making the first level easier though (slower zombies e.g.), because it took me a while to get a grip on all the different recipes and ingredients (especially the pepper and tomato are very similair at first glance). - Maybe a wave or score counter at the end to see check how well you did.

I think it's a well thought-out game with a good sense of humor.

Ragerint by Eldemarkki 2018-04-23T18:09:18Z

Nice game. It looks good and feels neatly done. It's a bit too slow for my patience (but that might be the point ;)), but it's an interesting challenge. I'd have to agree with @doomista on the music though. Great game, keep it up!

Meteor Horror by Guvitron 2018-04-23T18:33:42Z

So much pain! It was fun to play :). There is a real challenge, although I'm still not sure how much you can do about avoiding the big meteor.

Best aspects: - The challenge of dodging homing devices - Dinosaur model

Notes for improvement: - (Bug?) The game timer doesn't reset after a game-over. This makes it harder to track how well you did each time. - Make the jumping a bit more forgiving by e.g. a double jump. The homing devices are already a challenge enough I think :P.
