LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Pinball Wizardry by dsilvers 2014-12-08T19:00:00

Great graphics, a way too epic background track and the well-known pinball-concept make this a nice and enjoyable game.

But if you ever plan to do a post-compo-version then try to fix some collision-boxes and remove the bug in wich you just stand like this: http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3830/l6v4pgry.png and can wait for the stars to fall on you and farm infinite points. ^^

☃ by gre 2014-12-17T13:37:00

The idea of having randomly generated maps daily is great and kept me going back to this over and over again. But I just ignored those snowballs, 'cause it seemed way to hard to really avoid them and I didn't feel like collecting them. Great game overall!

BEARPG by MaxguN 2014-12-08T07:26:00

Nice idea! The start screen was a bit cramped and I found it a little too hard to actually hit/punch if you wanted to.
I also wondered why the punch/kick cooldown was random since it made it way more difficult to plan your moves.

Temporary by lambchop 2014-12-08T07:46:00

That idea was great (but also a bit confusing to me)!

I don't know anything about Java but I was able to just run the .jar-file.

I really liked it. The graphics looked good, it was actually just a small maze game but those floating walls/keys where way to complicated to me. I wasn't able to beat it just now but when I get back home I'll definitely try it again.

Sales Pitch by kiririn51 2014-12-09T22:10:00

That's fantastic! Just found it and I really love it!

SCRAMBLE SLUG by rockford 2014-12-08T07:54:00

Oh, another löver there! (^u^)/
The game looked very nice. The controls also feel right and fitting multiple small games on one screen of course fit the theme but wasn't that special. Oh, and it did seem like I wasn't able to collect fuel...

VOTE SNOWMAN (ON ONE SCREEN) by Ovidios 2014-12-09T17:31:00

The game actually ends when all the votes given in RL habe spawned. If your final results are better than the one "whole game in one screen" had there'll be a "you-win-screen". If they're worse a "you-lose-screen" will appear. I wanted to add a votes-left-bar but I ran out oft time... ^^

Mascarpone by Domicuc 2014-12-08T15:32:00

Even though I'm terribly bad at tower-defense-games (I even had some problems with PvZ!), and therefore didn't really get to enjoy your game's medium or hard difficulty, I had fun playing around in easy-mode.

The graphics were not that exciting but I really enjoyed your game.

Guns & Bricks by tMalicet 2014-12-08T21:32:00

Those graphics are so cute!
On my first try I thought it was pretty easy until i noticed you could run out of bullets and got stuck. ^^
I'll have to admit now that that game is actually very challenging!
Nice work!

Blue Window by TyrusPeace 2014-12-08T15:36:00

WOW! By far the most awesome-looking game I saw this Ludum Dare! And since I really LOVE 3D-puzzle-games this was a ton of fun to me!
Your interpretation of the theme was also fantastic!

CUBE Clicker by Polyganz 2014-12-08T00:36:00

THW Windows-Download doesn't seem to work... Hope you'll fix it soon!

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Internet Argument Simulator by Jessica Hayley 2015-04-19T23:10:00

I really liked the idea and anwsering was fun at first but then, no matter if I sweared or not, the difficulty rapidly increased and I found myself not thinking about anything more than the amount of curse words I use...

Furthermore, can you actually affect how much hate you get? Without typing anything I ended up with ~75% hate when I lost, wich doesn#t really make sense...

Great idea and a nice and polished design but I feel like my input should be more relevant so that I don't just sit here spamming curse words.

War Game? by Ovidios 2015-04-20T20:42:00

@zzForrest: I'm guessing you were running on Windows? I never had that error on any of the devices I tested it on... :/ If you happen to have love2d Installed you can download the source and run it that way...

War Game? by Ovidios 2015-04-20T20:46:00

TO ALL OF THOSE WHO COULDN'T RUN THE GAME PREVIOUSLY:
I replaced the old Windows-download with a new one that contains some more DLLs. Might fix the errors you might've had. I'm so sorry for that!

War Game? by Ovidios 2015-04-20T21:56:00

@pta2002: The fact they aren't real missiles is basically only revealed in the ending sequence were you see them flying into space and just exploding into firework... ^^

War Game? by Ovidios 2015-04-25T14:55:00

@UrbanHelsing: No you don't! ^^
The site I'm using allows you to pay or to download it for free. I should probably remove the option to pay to prevent confusion though... ^^

LD33 — You are the Monster

The Monster Files by Literal Games 2015-09-13T13:01:00

Awesome! The first case's monster seemed a little too hard to beat though, considering I had no problem at all beating the other ones!

Monster Corp. by elmoGames 2015-08-24T20:25:00

@charliecarlo: Löve (aka. love2d) is the engine he used! http://www.love2d.org/! It's *awesome* and uses Lua as it's scripting language!

Dissident by michidk 2015-08-23T10:40:00

Played till my score was -355.
The concept of having a negative score to represent your cruelty is cool but the gameplay was quite repetitive and I am not sure if there would've been another ending (after the first one at score = -100).

#gamifytwitter by Pirate Hearts 2015-08-23T10:19:00

Wow... xD

Nom by Ovidios 2015-08-26T20:16:00

@Josh H: You're probably not going to read this but I'm going to mention here anyway, that the game should run on all relatively up-to-date smartphones too. ^^

Nom by Ovidios 2015-09-03T20:18:00

@local minimum: You can in fact completely destroy the missile by clicking it! I should've really put that information somewhere in-game... ^^

Bad Professor by Hambone 2015-08-23T10:28:00

The idea is nice but if you just assign numbers to the grade and calculate the average you can get it right 100% of the time. Maybe you shouldn't have given the hints the same coloring scheme as the marks... ^^

I am Death and Fire by derr 2015-09-01T15:07:00

Really nice and fun entry! The graphics were wonderful but looking closely at the dragon's wings you notice they're just being resized. Animating them manually would've really improved that!

Monster.avi by ksanochka 2015-08-24T13:26:00

How much did you pay in order to use "Thriller"? xD

Digiman by chongyukwai 2015-08-23T10:33:00

I don't think I really got it... :/ And the graphics, while looking cool, didn't help me either... ^^

Bong for JavaScript by Bong 2015-08-23T10:30:00

Great twist on Pong but the link to the theme seems a little far-fetched. xD

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

The Star War by eerongal 2015-12-15T19:48:00

It was all REALLY easy. Beating the deadly star was really just circulating around him a few times, let his lasers kill his projectiles, collect everything, eat him done. Pretty fun though and the music was nice!

Grow the herd by Jan Peter (jpdev) 2015-12-13T21:33:00

The art was adorable but I don't think it was really exciting to play. It's also sometimes frustrating to get the sheep out of a corner.

Circle Defender by daleth90 2015-12-13T20:24:00

The physics made this one unique. For me it was pretty hard though... Also: Don't use the "z"-key! On QWERTZ-keyboards the z and y key are switched. It wasn't too bad for this game but it's still annoying.

Rosebud (Growing) by cynicalmonkey 2015-12-13T22:13:00

Our games looked way more similar than they actually are. ^^
I really liked the way your rose sprite opened, especially the level 10 one. The stem looks good when going straight up but moving to the sides makes it look choppy and weird. The background was a little boring but I couldn't really concentrate on it anyway.
I think that reaching level 10 was a little too easy. Especially since the first levels go by really quickly due to there being a lot of bumble bees in the beginning.
Also it seemed like there were unavoidable branches later on, which is frustrating since those always make you lose a whole level.
Good job after all!

Economical Growth by Gemberkoekje 2015-12-13T20:52:00

While I like 2-player games, I didn't have anyone around right now, so I played against myself. The first city's location seemed pretty unfair. Player 1 was right next to a river which probably was what slowed his production down a lot. Also ülayer 1 was like 10 tiles away from the nearest forest, while player 2 could reach one in a single turn. It's very simple right now but there are lot's of ways to add depth to a game like this. Highest priority feature for a post compo release would be an AI-opponent imo.
Still fun overall! ^^

Hacka Runna by crabcrabcam 2015-12-13T21:25:00

While the graphics were not really pleasing to look at it was all right gameplay wise. The jumping felt a little off and if I jumped off the level or got stuck somewhere the game wouldn't reset and I'd need to play all the levels again. :/ The background music was ok. It wasn't very interesting but it didn't get annoying as quickly as others do.

Blue & Red by zaniarm 2015-12-13T20:18:00

Simple idea but very well executed. I suck at this kind of games but I couldn't get higher than 12... ^^

Cosmic Snowball by kernel panic 2015-12-13T20:34:00

Pretty fun! The way it's embedded is really not optimal though... at 1x scaling it's just unplayable and with 3x scaling it wouldn't fit into the box thus forcing me to either go fullscreen or play it directly on the host website.
The graphics looked fine. I guess the low resolution was a stylistic choice. It didn't bother me too much anyway. One feature I'd have loved to see would be the player's rock picking up other rocks they way the player does in Katamari Damacy but I guess that would've been too much additional work. ^^

LD35 — Shapeshift

Rayshifting by ponk 2016-04-18T14:44:00

I did not at all get what I was doing... xD
Even though I kinda just moved my mouse in the direction that made the shape seem more right, I did enjoy playing it for a short while.

Dai Kabe by suppi 2016-04-17T17:51:00

I guess for eight hours total it's not too bad. I got the keys wrong like every time. A constant on-screen overlay with the shapes in the right order would've helped. Also at least an animation or a little sound effect for shifting shapes would've been cool.

⬛R⬤PPING ONTO SH▲PES by Ovidios 2016-04-17T18:47:00

@CravingAura: What exactly doesn't work? I just downloaded it from itch.io and it worked fine. You need to click on the "Download now"-button and follow the instructions to download it.

⬛R⬤PPING ONTO SH▲PES by Ovidios 2016-04-17T19:10:00

@CravingAura: Ugh... The game was set to private... I hate myself! It's available now though... ^^

A Slimy Fellow by Ourson 2016-04-17T18:20:00

Very nice! Reminded me a lot of "A Boy and His Blob". The art was generally nice, the full-black outlines were a little to "strong" sometimes, the animation on the slime was mostly very nice and cute and the rocket-ending was very cute too (I really liked the rocket-trail-particles). Good job!

By The Light Of The Spire by Blobo 2016-04-18T20:54:00

The game was, gameplay-wise, pretty good, the particles looked nice and the art was usually fine too. The jumps, however, felt kinda off and I was sometimes not able to double-jump.

We Don't Know How to Approach You by Drusilla 2016-04-18T20:42:00

A very surreal experience... Thus judging art and music's kinda hard. One thing though, you forgot to disable the console! ^^

Click the red button. by Roey2009 2016-04-17T17:42:00

Sick game! I guess I'm not good enough at reading the subtext to get how this game relates to the theme. ^^

LD38 — A Small World

Her World by Seththefirst 2017-04-24T21:16:07Z

Nice little game, the bears looked cute and the generated music fit. It did get repetitive pretty quickly however and I the level being small felt more like a compromise than an interesting implementation of the theme. Making fishing somewhat interactive and/or having the player fight/scare off predators might make it more exciting, maybe have the lake freeze sometimes and require the player to hunt for food.

Bunny On A Plane by ocarson 2017-05-15T19:58:38Z

I actually remember seeing this game (or a post about it) earlier! Really cute and the karaoke-text on the bottom was great (although I only sang along in my head).

Only things I wish were different are - it should be more clear where I need to be to hit things (due to the perspective it felt pretty difficult at times) - Maybe there should be a little more feedback when missing something (I didn't really even notice the miss-bar in the top-left) - The song might as well be a little longer (although I do get that making music on a short schedule is difficult)

Really nice game overall!

EDIT: Although, now that I think about it, I don't really see how it fits the theme...

Quantum Frustum by nusan 2017-04-24T21:23:20Z

The game was **great** aesthetically, as @geckoo1337 also mentioned. I feel like the main mechanic - platforming - was a little too basic, although that may well be a limitation due to time. I didn't notice the gimmick of the parts of the levl turning until I climbed the big tower to collect the last orb. Before, I was just confused by some things seemingly randomly changing. I feel like the confusion might've been intended though since in the end you show how everything turns around. Overall, if you managed to make platforming a little more engaging and change the level accordingly, this could be really fun.

Divine Marbles by pankamil 2017-04-24T21:05:32Z

Very fun concept! I've seen those planetary systems simulator toys before, but making it that kind of game is a great idea. I wish there was an npc opponent though, because just getting a score in the end isn't really that exciting (and didn't tell me anything about how good or bad I played). Sounds and music fit the game well and it looked very pretty too (although the sky is kind of pixellated in some places).

Dinosaur Protection Program by maxartz15 2017-05-11T16:42:02Z

The game looks pretty and the planet generation, although meaningless to the gameplay, is a nice gimmick. The game was pretty fun too and I might've *really* enjoyed it, were the controls a bit better. I felt like the cannons weren't aiming right at my mouse but were always slightly off. Since controlling Turrets on opposite sites of the planet at the same time was too difficult for me I opted to place them all next to eachother, giving me a more shotgun-like shot, making the aiming easier and tried to cover the rest of the planet in autoturrets. It seemed to me, however, as though I was only able to control a few of the turrets at the same time? Or maybe the mouse-detection-radius of the rapid ones was just smaller? Anyway, that made my method of playing pretty frustrating.

Fun game overall though and, again, cute graphics.

Marbleverse by Marc Grabow 2017-05-15T18:56:33Z

Other people mentioned it already - the aliens were great! Pretty simple, neat clicker game.

LD42 — Running out of space

TINY TOWNS by BearishMushroom 2018-08-18T17:26:30Z

This is a really really cool game! Other people already mentioned tons of good things, so here's some criticism: - The graphics look cool, but I don't quite like the choice of colors. They're really saturated and a little hard to look at. I also don't understand why you made the house be monochrome red, as I feel like it looks a little odd. - On the topic of graphics: I like this pseudo-3d, sprite-layering stuff and it really fits a city building game, but honestly, with how small the levels and how simple the building designs are, I feel like the rotating is not really necessary. In fact I was annoyed accidentally clicking the arrow and trying to get it back into the normal frontal orientation. - I feel like the difficulty curve plateau fairly quickly. This may be due to the limited number of buildings limiting your options of increasing difficulty without just making huge boards.

But seriously, this is great and I'd totally play a full version with some added mechanics for increasing the difficulty!

Stuck! by chkkll 2018-08-18T12:40:44Z

Cute concept, the music was great and the graphics, although simple, were pleasing and consistent. But I do think that it needs some extra mechanics that could be used to differentiate the levels a bit, as I found myself using pretty much the same "tactic" for each level. Overall, it's a really cute idea with a great execution!

LD45 — Start with nothing

Trelet ~ The Land of Words by Ovidios 2019-10-07T10:56:12Z

Thank you for the Feedback, @notexplosive!

I honestly didn't give too much thought to the punishment. I guess I didn't feel like the game was *that* hard, so I thought it was fine...

I originally planned to have a bigger level with reasons to return to previous portions as well as checkpoints, but I didn't get to that part!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to comment!

Trelet ~ The Land of Words by Ovidios 2019-10-07T18:16:16Z

@jupiter-hadley Thank you! I'm taking a mental note to actually include an in-game tutorial next time. I felt like the concept was simple enough to just 'get' like that, but I see now that I need to communicate the details of how mechanics work a lot better (or at all)!

I'll get some friends to test the game next time! Sorry I gave you a hard time like that!

Trelet ~ The Land of Words by Ovidios 2019-10-08T05:56:54Z

@shaolin-dave I feared something like this would happen, since I don't have a Mac to actually try it...

I'll see if I can fix it later today. Sorry for having wasted your time!

Trelet ~ The Land of Words by Ovidios 2019-10-08T16:01:39Z

Wow, that was a lot of comments, so thanks for all the feedback!

@shieldgenerator7: Regarding (1), you could also use the mouse wheel, although that's still not a *great* solution. As for (3), the amount of extra letters you get for making longer words actually scales pretty steeply - you get (n-4)² letters where n is the length of the word. So making, for example, an 8 letter word would get you a whole 16 letters, which is pretty good, I think.

But yeah, I agree with all of your points! I wanted to make the level larger and more open but that would've required me to change some other things and I just ran out of time...

Trelet ~ The Land of Words by Ovidios 2019-10-08T16:08:37Z

@shaolin-dave: If you have any ideas that could help me that'd be cool! I really know nothing about Macs, so I just tried following the tutorial in the LÖVE wiki...

Everything [looks alright](http://puu.sh/EqdPK/5604330462.png) on my end, I think?

In the Rain by NotExplosive 2019-10-07T17:59:53Z

What really makes this game is the soundscape! It's incredible how they elevate such simple (but pretty!) graphics to a really immersive experience! I personally am horrible at level/puzzle design, so this might not mean too much, but I really liked the puzzles. Both their difficulty and variety felt right to me!

I feel like the only thing I can really critique is how I felt like the graphics, while aesthetically pleasing, were kind of hard to read at times, since, at a glance, they all look very similar.

But in the end I did have fun with my playthrough!

Contraband by AdamCYounis 2019-10-07T20:32:00Z

I agree with the other commenters that the game looks great and getting and losing mechanics that really change the way you play (like how the hunger mechanic forces you to play less careful) is cool, but I *did* also glitched through walls a few times, getting me into this death trap, which I only got out by glitching through the wall again (since there's no reset button that I could notice.) Unbenannt.png I also felt like the jumping felt a bit off, and the portion of the level right after getting the hunger mechanic was insanely frustrating (especially since it had that part with the two upwards corridors, one of which is a dead end which felt pretty unfair to me).

But these things don't *ruin* the game. It was still pretty fun!

LD53 — Delivery

Then Came A Stork by bonkibot 2023-10-01T22:08:52Z

This was really neat! Visually pretty (except for the flickering of the player stork, which was a little irritating), and the soundscape was nice and eerie! Just some very strong vibes all around!

(And I didn't mind the reading and flying simultaneously either, personally!)

LD54 — Limited Space

LIGHTDANCER by xk_the_name 2023-10-17T14:06:22Z

Woah, this is great!! The movement felt really smooth and nice, and comboing enemies is really satisfying! The spacing of the bonfires also felt just right to me, especially the last one, where you have enough time inbetween bonfires to memorize the layout and get into a groove, but where it's not frustrating or anything!

(And I really didn't expect a boss fight in the end either! Really nice stuff, especially as a compo entry!)

wild maid by thyoi 2023-10-19T13:06:14Z

woahh, the visuals are super neat!! i love the ink dot effect! im always a big fan of taking a classic game and just adding a bunch of stuff onto it! some really clever cards as well!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

a new day dawns by Ovidios 2018-04-27T16:27:21Z

@Tmvant, Thank you for your response! The spikes disappearing is simply because I didn't get to implementing the next level of spikes. As for the long nights: I totally agree, which is why you can hold down LCTRL to go to 4x speed. It's not great and not really a solution, but hey.

Brute Force Art Defence by Shellfish Games 2018-04-25T17:06:44Z

I liked it! Tower-defense games in general are fun to me and the idea of procedurally painting the enemies was great. Throughout playing I kept thinking it would be great to get to look at these images afterwards. Only found out you *could* do so after finishing the playthrough (on my first try that is!) The game felt very easy, maybe because the cards I got were really good? Idk. I would have enjoyed being able to scroll around with the mouse (dragging or moving to the edge like in Sims) and the upgrade slot mechanic was kind of frustrating.
