would like to try your game but ran into var _function:FuncRef could not find FuncRef in current scope in DelayEvent.gd I'm guessing this is just because I've tried cloning your repo and I'm using a different godot version? I'll check it out once you sort out your builds! xx

Such a nice game! Reminds me of being a kid and playing Old Maid with my friends. 😊 But I couldn't even imagine you could make Old Maid game look that beautiful and polished.

I don't really know how it fits the theme of limited space, but it's still awesome! Great job!

magalix 2023-10-05 19:42

Well done. Nice concept and the realisation is so clean.

Those smooth animations are so satisfying

ellaris 2023-10-05 20:06

- I liked the art and the music was fitting, sound effects a bit loud. - I think you should skip the first game, as I was about to leave the next iterations were definitely more interesting from a single player standpoint.

jerem-watts 2023-10-06 12:31

Such an adventure~✨ You clearly know how to make a good experience! https://youtu.be/n4lWyGWWEyM

happygamer500 2023-10-06 22:56

That was a great game. I wish more people got to play/rate it.

ausstein 2023-10-09 21:15

Thank you for dropping by my stream! Unfortunately the Vod seems to be lost :(

ausstein 2023-10-11 12:22

Turns out the Vod was not lost but just unpublished.

Here you can find my playthough if you want to see it again:

Was funny and a interesting use of theme!

Well done! Take a candy! :candy:

yellowkamel 2023-10-12 18:42

Very polished experience. Always astonished how a game made in such a short time frame by a single person can have a such a polished feeling. :smile_cat:

borderdestroyer 2023-10-13 03:03

This was so much fun to play! It was so chaotic in such a great way! Can't believe I drew Pot of Greed after getting +2-ed, all I needed was that EMP card and I would've been set... Tis how the cookie crumbles.

senso 2023-10-14 05:39

Good polish! The game feels great. Did like the the boss battle the best.

deadbydeath 2023-10-14 09:45

The game was really easy to grasp and the idea even if it was really simple it was very well executed! I liked it a lot! It is a great entry! Wish you good luck my friend! Keep up!

3mpty 2023-10-14 20:58

Awesome game, really nice polish and animations on everything, good learning curve.

Overall excellent submission! Great idea!

mango-malarkey 2023-10-15 07:08

This is a really great entry. Very well polished and with great a focus on player experience, I am shocked that this could be made in the compo. Very well done!

light153709 2023-10-15 08:34

soooooo funny old maid,a great concept of gameplay!i wish i can play more levels!the sound and the visual effects are catching, cool work!

beats 2023-10-15 09:37

I liked the polish of the game, the first round set the ground rules but then the subsequent rounds I felt introduced new mechanics in a short period of time, I still like the work put in and the boss fight at the end was clever, almost hearthstone-like.

falestress 2023-10-15 13:37

Wtf the gamefeel and art ! <3

I loved the card game winks, 5/5 humor <3 It's impressive the work done on it, especially in this jam format! Well done !

haotian-chen 2023-10-15 15:53

wow you got such a polished game! very well done!

i've seen some interesting poker game that combine all kinds of card together and your game is totally as much interesting as others.

i was still not completely understand how exactly everything work at the boss fight but i can say the design was quite something in the draw death card game. it combined very well with other mechanics because if you want to give you opponent death card and dont draw it yourself, you want have less card on your hand and give you opponent more and that's why you want to shed and why uno cards are good.

love it!

bentglasstube 2023-10-16 04:04

I didn't expect too much when it was described as just Old Maid, but the unusual cards made it very entertaining. The adorable narrator/host/whatever also won some big points <3. I think the second level was my favorite with just all the wild cards that I didn't know what to expect from, although I lost that round for holding DEATH too long.

raddishradish 2023-10-16 10:01

I liked all the silly cards that popped up starting the second round! The game is very visually polished, love the art and little animations.

Not too clear to me how it fits the theme though, I think it had something to do with the Death cards?

trasevol-dog 2023-10-16 13:42

Really cool game! I love the idea of adapting an old card game with a mixed deck of various game cards, it's really funny and fun. I loved how crazy it gets, but I did find the last part with the health points a bit confusing. Couldn't figure out when I was going to lose HP or deal damage. But for a game made in 48h this is really super impressive all around, well done!!

thyoi 2023-10-16 13:55

@trasevol-dog Thank you so much for playing my game. I didn't realize that you made ShotgunKings before, which explains why your game has such perfect pixel art. It was nice to meet you.

kristinamay 2023-10-16 18:46

I loved this game! It felt very complete, the opponent was fun, I actually lol'd when I saw the uno cards, and generally I was super impressed with it. The sound effects were good and the art was great. My favorite of the jam!

darkmax14 2023-10-16 18:51

I thouroughly enjoyed your wild take on old maid. You really polished it well, feels like a fully complete package! I loved all the references to other card games and weird rules

linus-lindberg 2023-10-16 19:15

Astonishingly polished. All the art and visual feedback is just amazing. I'm so impressed this was done as a compo game. well done.

strega 2023-10-17 06:52

Amazing! Loved the polish, juice, animations, effects, and silliness. Really great and fun interactions. Even the background is responsive! You could totally take this further and make a full release :D

chitoyuu 2023-10-17 08:41

It's wild the amount of content and polish you've managed to put into the game, all within the compo time frame. Very impressive!

Also here's a doodle.

thyoi.png

The in-game sprites were rather tiny, so sorry if I got any of the details wrong!

thyoi 2023-10-17 08:45

@chitoyuu omg!!! i have never received any fanart. it looks fantastic. You made me cry.

It took me a while to recover from the shock. Please marry me.

thyoi 2023-10-17 09:14

@chitoyuu It's exactly how I imagined the game to be in the first place. I was like thinking that it would be shocked if the character would be face to face with the player. But my art was so bad that I couldn't handle spreading screen-sized characters, color schemes, and compositions. I even began to doubt that such a design was even possible. In the end, I had to just put the cards on.

Your drawings are stunning. It's so visually striking even beyond my imagination. I don't know how to express my gratitude.

Would you like to hang out with me next ld? or any random stuff?

sleepymenace 2023-10-17 13:38

Just excellent. The level of polish is actually unbelievable, especially for the Compo, I'm kinda blown away. The only things I noted was that the sound effects are a bit loud, and that once the opponent's hand is down to like three cards it's very easy to see where a card gets shuffled, so you can just pick the same card over and over again once they have the death card.

Wildmaid.png

I loved it, though! I'm sleepymenace on Discord as well, feel free to add me if you wanna stay in touch!

chitoyuu 2023-10-17 14:49

@thyoi I'm a simple person. You draw fanart of mine, I draw fanart of yours. A simple exchange like the simple person I am. Also, you don't have to be so harsh on yourself. The color scheme, composition, and design elements of my picture are just copied from your game, so if you find it to be stunning (thank you), it's your original that is!

noya 2023-10-17 15:57

I'm impressed by the attention of detail you put into this one. The responsive animation and sound effects of the cards, the little effect when you click on the background, three different game modes, card tooltips, a lovely NPC, a quick tutorial. The graphics and music are very pretty. I won the first play-through and played it a second time, just to see if it would feel different and I'm pleased to see that you actually have some tactical choice which cards to keep and which to shed in the last game-mode. Little gem! 💜

ottos 2023-10-17 16:17

what a nice little game!! i had a lot of fun playing it! it has nice bgm and sound effects, as well enjoyable gameplay and extremely charming character ;,) it feels so nice to play not just against some random opponent but some adorable character that talks with you and shows off little ideas that it seems popped up trough development? it was so good,, like you sit and play with a friend, eventually coming up with new games! so so cute, i really enjoyed it! also do not be harsh on your art, i find it extremely adorable

don't mind me adding another fanart for this adorable little creature!! f_11.png

100th-coin 2023-10-17 16:23

I don't know what the score at the end represents, but I had 3400. It looks like every card I had contributed? Perhaps the winning move for a highscore run is to stall in the boss fight?

The idea of combining cards from tons of other games is fantastic, and I loved seeing the way they interacted. (The About card counting as an ace, the kuribo from yu-gi-oh counting as... I want to say it was a 6?) And truth be told, as I fought the boss at the end, I wished it was less like old maid and more like magic the gathering. imagine card based combat where you currently have in your hand: pot of greed, colossal dreadmaw, a tarot card, an uno skip, the joker card, squirtle, your business card, and the two of clubs. That being said, the boss fight was a cool surprise, and I enjoyed it!

All around, super creative concept. The art is incredibly polished, and I especially love the background! I definitely need to play more of your LD games. Great work!

**Edit:** well shoot... if everyone else is drawing fan art...

fanart.png

Everyone else here is too talented. *somebody* had to be the average artist.

chitoyuu 2023-10-18 01:17

@thyoi I'm glad you liked my doodle! Would've loved if you asked for my permission first though, before you made it the cover thumbnail for your game. It's fine, no worries, but please remember that an artist posting fan art for something yours does not typically mean carte blanche for you to do whatever you want with it. The copyright of the derivative work *is still theirs*, and while they might readily agree, it's a courtesy, not to mention a legal necessity, to ask them first.

Hope you success in your future jams!

thyoi 2023-10-18 01:31

@chitoyuu I'm so sorry. I love it so much and you're right I should have asked for your permission first, I've never received a fanart I don't know what to do and I'm very sorry if this is reckless

100th-coin 2023-10-18 02:13

@thyoi I don't know if it's imposter syndrome, (or if any amount of compliments would help) but you really are a skilled artist. There are very few compo games with art that really impresses me, and you did a great job. I already brought up how stylish the backgrounds are in my previous comment. I think the original thumbnail was great the way it was (plus due to Compo rules, you probably want to stick to using your own art.)

I saw the post you made before the jam started, and it's inspiring how much your art has improved between the Ludum Dares you have participated in. Seriously, don't sell yourself short.

thyoi 2023-10-18 02:38

@100th-coin I apologize for not responding in time. Receiving the fanart made me so happy that I had trouble organizing my words. Your art is fantastic. I like it very, very much. You are a game developer I deeply respect and I often play to your games on the ludumdare results page. I was very impressed with the game where the witch flew to Netflix HQ. that's amazing. I'm very happy to see you play my game. I feel very lucky to have met you in ludum dare.

thank you so much for the compliment. No one has ever complimented me on anything outside ludumdare.

thyoi 2023-10-18 06:23

@ottos Thank you so much for the fanart. it looks amazing. I almost cry again when I saw it this morning. Your art and your games is just so mesmerizing to me.

thyoi 2023-10-18 10:05

@sleepymenace I must express my thanks again. I absolutely love your fan art. it's so cute. Receiving such a great gift almost exhausted all my powers of expression. I don't know how to express my gratitude, I am really touched.

tetracold 2023-10-19 10:31

Very neat little game!

The graphics are very good, the artwork on the cards and the character portraits are very well done done and visual aesthetic of the game is really great! the music is pretty good too, it helps with the overall relaxed mood! The character's really charming, I already like her!

I like that you took the concept old maid and you gave it a really un spin with all the different types of cards, it's really fun, no matter f I win or lose. It also fits really nicely within the theme

Very cool! good job

ovidios 2023-10-19 13:06

woahh, the visuals are super neat!! i love the ink dot effect! im always a big fan of taking a classic game and just adding a bunch of stuff onto it! some really clever cards as well!

alchemic 2023-10-20 21:35

This game is *clean*! Super cute, I love the artwork! Very fun to play, very polished.

I love the concept of taking a simple card game and just stacking mechanics onto it. The chaos was great.

I didn't have a lot of time, but here's a quick sketch for ya: charrenderpng.png

thyoi 2023-10-20 23:43

@alchemic wow!!!thank you so much!! I love it!!!__>A<_ _

kairuma 2023-10-21 12:36

This is a very fun and cool concept. I feel like there's a lot you can do to expand on the idea!
