LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Missdemanor by alaah 2022-10-04T17:27:43Z

One of the better uses of the theme I've seen so far. How the very first section worked was a bit cryptic, as the positioning is rather tight, and the stage didn't suggest that a candlestick was just a few steps away, but beyond that things were pretty smooth. Definitely a fun experience. Also cute little headclimber with a cute voice is cute. Well done!

Oxylunky by daandruff 2022-10-04T10:15:24Z

The atmosphere and graphics are on-spot, although as others have pointed out the lack of checkpoints and most air pockets being hidden made the Compo version a bit too punishing. The amount of care that went into the presentation is impressive nevertheless. Good work!

Triangles and more triangles and more.. by INCD021 2022-10-04T09:37:14Z

It's a brilliant move to make the every-10-seconds event only mildly infuriating. The usual 10-second hard limit fare doesn't really emphasize the "every" part quite enough, so I'm happy to see a deviation from that formula! I'd really love a fullscreen mode for the WebGL build, as with the small viewport here on LDJAM I do need to squint a little bit to see where the tiny white arrows are pointing at. Nice game otherwise and great job!

ETERNARC by Talops 2022-10-12T06:41:39Z

Really nice game! Overall it feels very solid, without any apparent weaknesses apart from the lack of music in the Compo version. It's fun, and it did very well to produce the mood it tries to invoke. The "message of the day" especially gives weight to what's otherwise just a bunch of icons that you quickly get desensitized to in the ever-so-vast swathes of survival games. I liked it a lot!

Also, it's a nice touch that you left a Compo mode toggle on your web build despite updating it after the jam. That really helps giving the game a fair rating! I wish everyone who updated their games did this.

Dare to Jam by TJ101010 2022-10-04T06:00:27Z

The music being influenced by the team members you choose is such a interesting gimmick. I like it a lot! Humorous but also somewhat realistic in the sense that we don't have any time to really evaluate how much any feature benefits the game. Just have to implement them all! Really cool game.

The Landfill by Naemis 2022-10-03T10:11:41Z

Things exploding = a lot of fun! The art looks nice, and the game while small in scope actually feels complete. I'm not sure if I have much more to add to the many comments here, except for a tiny technical thing about handling polyphony:

Right now the sound effects go very loud and clipping when many things explode at the same time. I imagine that this is because you put a separate `AudioStreamPlayer2D` node in everything that can explode, and simply fire them all off when the action becomes intense. What you can instead do though is to pool your `AudioStreamPlayer2D` nodes under a global AutoLoad in a ring buffer, and expose a function that moves & retriggers them one at a time. Almost as easy to access as a local node, but with 100% less clipping! It will sound a bit different, but still very satisfying.

Nice game!

Witchy Sketchy Alchemy by Bruyère Alice 2022-10-04T08:07:37Z

Really cute art style, very polished look and feel, and I see that someone has a... *ahem* appreciation of the exquisite sublimity of transformation here.

The game loop itself is pretty easy to understand and quite fun while it lasted. According to the game though I apparently still "suck" at 50000 points, so I assume there's some kind of win condition that I overlooked, but I'm really out of ideas to try at this point so I decided to call it quits. Otherwise, a generally very well-made game, and I liked it a lot! Great work!

Ezekiel by Austin Sierra 2022-10-04T15:40:59Z

Holy based I don't even know how I should rate this. It transcends puny human concepts such as rating. The game is simple but it run in GOD's THIRD TEMPLE what else can I say. I'm expecting a few Gameboy ROMs made with porcelain tools but not this. Mad props.

I found that with some practice you can get away with about 5 sins per prayer. 6 is a bit inconsistent and got me my retribution.

For those running Linux here's what I used to run the game with QEMU:

``` 7z x Ezekiel.zip qemu-img convert -O qcow2 TempleOS.vdi TempleOS.qcow2 qemu-system-x86_64 -m 2G -enable-kvm -nic none -vga std -drive file=TempleOS.qcow2,format=qcow2,media=disk ```
Potat-OS by JMad 2022-10-06T04:45:42Z
Had a blast with all the minigames! Took me a little while to figure out what I was supposed to do in ChampagneShower.exe. The GIF up there was very helpful! While each the games are simple, getting good enough to beat all of them within 10 seconds whenever they pop up was quite challenging. It's a ton of content overall. Also I like how the music morphs depending on which game is currently active. Very well done!
Sweet Seconds by Jag 2022-10-04T06:27:52Z
Very interesting take on the theme. Art style is cute and I like the sound design as well! Very solid game. Well done!
Cat.exe by Alpha Wolf Studios 2022-10-04T08:28:35Z
Love the *AESTHETICS* and the very catchy music. The collision detection did feel a little bit flaky when it comes to those moving platforms. Often do I find myself stuck mid-air between them and the floor, unable to jump or move anywhere. Overall it still feels very polished though. Great job! It's also super cool that you released your sources, even if you didn't have to for the jam. Kudos for that!
10 Doujins per Second by steinuil 2022-10-05T05:10:35Z
I thought I was a weirdo for coding in crab, but to the power level of a F# user I must kneel. I enjoyed the game. It's pretty cute and funny to me, though I'd imagine perhaps not so funny for someone who don't get a fair chunk of the references, and I don't think revealing the inventory first would have made any difference on that front. You set out to make a game not everyone will like and you succeeded at that, so, no complaints whatsoever. Well done!
The UI is very stylish, and I like the music. They both fit the mood very well!
Gemstones by Spike Studio 2022-10-06T03:23:15Z
Very, very polished match-3 (or 2) experience, complete with a full-fledged tutorial. Much more than what you'd expect from a jam game. I like the music and sound effects. It was pretty fun!
Red and Black's Discommunicative Communication by chitoyuu 2022-10-03T05:39:56Z
@indigo @bosco Thanks for playing! I agree that there's a lot to be desired with how the mechanics are introduced. As it is there is indeed a serious lack of audio / visual indication. For the usual LD reasons, but still. Everything is always taking longer than I think they should! I need to get better at estimations.
It does seem like only one of you got your ratings recorded though. Mind taking a few seconds to submit it again?
Red and Black's Discommunicative Communication by chitoyuu 2022-10-03T06:22:34Z
@robowarrior1982 @dnivie Thanks for the feedback! The introduction certainly is a weak point. I'll try to do an update to the game page later today. Hopefully that would help future players understand the game better.
@deniz-aras Congratulations! Yes a Giant Otter of conversation you are. The game was coded to be able to respond to matches and clashes with conversation lines, even with variations and probability and all that, but alas, I just didn't have enough time to write the actual text. A classic case of LD fail. I wish I could have gotten around to drawing the card art too. Perhaps the extra format is for me then! Thanks for playing!
Red and Black's Discommunicative Communication by chitoyuu 2022-10-03T09:58:23Z
@naemis I'm glad you liked it! You're right that telegraphing card selection with dialogue would be a more interesting design. I thought about it as well, but ultimately decided (correctly) that I wouldn't have the time to implement it. The cards being revealed at start of turn was in fact a last-minute kludge.
The amount of information certainly seems to be a problem here. I guess though it's just an uphill battle trying to mix a card game and the theme together, and at some point I'll have to admit defeat and say I'm not that good a designer (yet). Gotta do better next time!
Thanks for playing and I really appreciate the detailed feedback!
Red and Black's Discommunicative Communication by chitoyuu 2022-10-04T08:47:22Z
@destiny2028 @incd021 @rob6566 @bruyere-alice @ghuyajil Thanks for playing everyone! I agree that the UI is lacking a lot of audiovisual hints on how the score calculation works, how effects resolve, etc. Shows how much better I still need to get. I appreciate your feedback.
@daandruff Yes, in retrospect I did take a lot of risk with this concept, and in the end it didn't work out as well as I'd like it to. Then again, I wouldn’t have it any other way either! A game jam is a place where you're supposed to take risks, at least in my mind. Thanks for your kind words, and thanks for playing!
Red and Black's Discommunicative Communication by chitoyuu 2022-10-04T16:32:33Z
@austin-sierra Thanks for trying my game. If by "glitching out" you mean that new dialogue stopped appearing after the tutorial, that's just because I didn't have the time to actually write any lines for the game proper. It's "normal", and it is the state you should rate based upon. After a few turns in that state you'll get an ending according to your score, shown in the middle-right of the screen.
Red and Black's Discommunicative Communication by chitoyuu 2022-10-05T03:50:52Z
Thanks for playing everyone. I'm glad a lot of you liked the art!
@vykri @alaah Thanks for taking the time to understand it! Yes, lack of strategic depth is a very valid criticism of the game in its state. Originally I envisioned the cards to be played face-down, with the actual type of the card having to be deduced from dialogue. I have since learned that this is just wayyyy too much content for one person to create during 48 hours along with all the other things.
@alaah Yes all the cards are level 1 indeed... I didn't even realize that I forgot to tweak those numbers until now. The game ends on the start of turn once you've reached a high-enough level, or once enough (too much) time has passed. Black-tufted Marmoset is actually the highest rank you can get, so you're doing very well. Congratulations!
@sleepymenace Yes, on-going dialogue is one among the many things this lacks. I wish I had more time to write all those text... I would've loved to get the characters known better as well. The art style is indeed influenced by the venerable fish. I for one welcome our potato overlords.
Thanks for all the feedback!
Red and Black's Discommunicative Communication by chitoyuu 2022-10-12T06:22:53Z
Thanks for all the feedback! I'm glad you liked the art and found the concept interesting! I have taken note on how I could improve the process and time allocation next time.
METAHACK by Tetane 2022-10-03T10:34:25Z
I BELIEVE THE METAVERSE IS THE NEXT CHAPTER FOR THE INTERNET
Never have I been as entertained by the idea of THE METAVERSE. Plaudits to all involved. The mood is also excellent!
SKY ROBOT QUANTUM ECHO by Bosco 2022-10-03T05:24:03Z
Very solid concept that's instantly graspable. I like the dialogue a lot! These bots are very cute. Also floating islands hype hype hype HYPE
10 Second Traffic by Grandblood 2022-10-04T05:31:27Z
I like the beep beeps and VROOOOOMs. Nice game!
Monster's Dungeon Shop by Deniz ARAS 2022-10-03T07:37:30Z
You've got a nice art style! Somehow all the text showed up as Windings in Firefox, but the game is straightforward enough I didn't really need the introduction, so I just pretended I was reading goblin language. It's accidental but honestly I liked it quite a bit. Well done!
Another LAST 10 seconds by Serxiolas 2022-10-05T06:38:48Z
Interesting take on the theme! Got a good chuckle out of it. Also:
> Every single sound and the music you hear are produced by my voice and/or body
Even the birds? That's really impressive!
Cat Wave RUN by CooLguNxDD 2022-10-04T04:41:00Z
The arrow combat is very nice! It's impressive you've got a responsive music system working in 3 days. Nice game!
10s To Decide by Rob6566 2022-10-04T09:15:36Z
Congrats for finishing your first game jam! I could be seeing things, but it did surprise me a bit that the fire towers seem to deal damage to friendly towers as well. I imagine that a visualization of incoming damage would help clear this up a lot. Otherwise the gameplay works fairly well with the orthodox interpretation of the theme. Nice game!
Press me...or die by Vykri 2022-10-05T06:15:00Z
I'm so glad I took a look at the source, realized that there's more, and ran this a second time. The volume is a bit low here, so I didn't quite hear the speech clearly, and just thought that pressing a button is all there is. Sometimes simple normalization isn't enough and you need to do [dynamic range compression](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range_compression) to bring recordings to audible levels. CC can also help, but this is Compo so yeah.
Game is hilarious. Great work!
Pandora’s Box [WebGL/Win/Touch] by AJ Studio 2022-10-04T07:29:43Z
Pandora's so cute. The music is great too. Very well done in those aspects! Controls took a little while to get used to: the amount of inertia feels much greater than other games that require this level of precision has. Overall a very sweet game and certainly a lot of cuteness!
LD54 — Limited Space
BoxBox by mao 2023-10-04T13:43:53Z
Took me a while to understand what "recursive warehouse“ was supposed to mean in this context, but eventually I got it through some trial and error. Cool concept!
Rover Under by ColeSlaughter 2023-10-05T09:25:38Z
The art is great. I love it! Would've been even greater with an option to play with bots though. There was nobody else online when I tried it, and it was a bit lonely, but nice game overall!
Please Sign Here by Ampo 2023-10-05T11:13:36Z
Surprisingly fun up until a point (the last 2 levels) but having experienced excruciating signings of lengthy documents first hand I choose to interpret the frustration as the intended experience. Tried to play on a tablet but sadly it didn't like the portals. Got a good laugh out of the contracts though. Nice game!
Please Sign Here by Ampo 2023-10-05T11:49:43Z
@markadia To clarify I meant a graphical tablet, but yes I agree the situation would be similar with touch screens as well. Maybe you can note in the descriptions that it's meant to be played specifically with a mouse and not other input devices.
Limited City by xCarl 2023-10-06T16:09:54Z
Not much in the way of bells and whistles but it's solid and functional. I can see how this can be a foundation of a puzzle-like city builder. Congrats on your first game using Godot!
Safe Space Passage by Kepsert 2023-10-03T13:05:44Z
Very interesting interpretation of the theme, likely among the best ones possible. The framing of the boundary around the player as "safe space" is very clever, since it gives an intuitive explanation of the mechanic's behavior and why it would turn an otherwise broad open map into something very limiting. Overall very solid in all aspects too. Well done!
Citra's In Fact Actually 2048 by chitoyuu 2023-10-03T13:15:44Z
Thanks for your feedback!
@orangeoceans Verbose red superchats, guests, distracting tangents and sound effects, or niconico-style scrolling comments and surveys, for a few off the top. Just more of the usual cliches, really. For things that would more or less cover the whole board, I wanted to make it so that the player can try to drag some of these overlays away one by one temporarily using the mouse while playing the game on the keyboard at the same time. It would be suffering, and it would've been great.
Citra's In Fact Actually 2048 by chitoyuu 2023-10-04T11:02:07Z
@sleepymenace Thanks for playing. I'm glad you liked her! Truth to be told, I probably spent too much time on drawing her sprite, time which *could have been* spent making the game more unplayable, but I guess it paid off. Perhaps. I'm not super active on Discord, but I like the kind of content your team makes too, and would love to see if there's something we can do together if circumstances permit, so I've sent a request your way!
Citra's In Fact Actually 2048 by chitoyuu 2023-10-06T16:18:02Z
Thanks for all the feedback! I'm glad you found the idea interesting. It took me hours of tuber ~~bingeing~~ *research* to come up with. You can tell I'm pretty proud of it.
@sleepymenace I've checked and indeed seems like it's somehow gone. I've sent you another.
Citra's In Fact Actually 2048 by chitoyuu 2023-10-16T11:52:39Z
@thyoi Wow thank you so much for the Citrart!! Of all the possible things the little red number could've represented, fanart is the last I would've expected. I'm really glad you liked her design enough to draw this. It's so cute! Thank you!
Citra's In Fact Actually 2048 by chitoyuu 2023-10-16T12:51:42Z
@thyoi Thanks for your kind words, and no you don't need to be sorry for anything. I like your art and I'm sincerely flattered!
Citra's In Fact Actually 2048 by chitoyuu 2023-10-18T01:28:44Z
@sleepymenace Thank you! It's really cute!
Citra's In Fact Actually 2048 by chitoyuu 2023-10-19T14:52:44Z
@thyoi That's such a detailed piece. I like it. Thanks a lot!
wild maid by thyoi 2023-10-17T08:41:59Z
It's wild the amount of content and polish you've managed to put into the game, all within the compo time frame. Very impressive!
Also here's a doodle.
thyoi.png
The in-game sprites were rather tiny, so sorry if I got any of the details wrong!
wild maid by thyoi 2023-10-17T14:49:33Z
@thyoi I'm a simple person. You draw fanart of mine, I draw fanart of yours. A simple exchange like the simple person I am. Also, you don't have to be so harsh on yourself. The color scheme, composition, and design elements of my picture are just copied from your game, so if you find it to be stunning (thank you), it's your original that is!
wild maid by thyoi 2023-10-18T01:17:45Z
@thyoi I'm glad you liked my doodle! Would've loved if you asked for my permission first though, before you made it the cover thumbnail for your game. It's fine, no worries, but please remember that an artist posting fan art for something yours does not typically mean carte blanche for you to do whatever you want with it. The copyright of the derivative work *is still theirs*, and while they might readily agree, it's a courtesy, not to mention a legal necessity, to ask them first.
Hope you success in your future jams!
High Caffeine Black Tea by SLEEPYMENACE 2023-10-04T11:06:13Z
Looks really cute, but it seems like the current build is still affected by the same problems as mentioned above. No enemy bullets or any music and sound effects. Clean Fedora 38 Workstation with just the nvidia drivers.
High Caffeine Black Tea by SLEEPYMENACE 2023-10-04T12:29:51Z
So it took a few tries but I managed to finish the game for real this time. Graphics are cute indeed and the story was adorable too. Danmaku shmups are great and you should play more of them!
yay.png
> Also there is no sound because we didn’t have time to put it in lol
@steinuil Oh, ok. I thought there was supposed to be some because there was Music & Sound in the credits. Personally I think it's fair though if you've actually finished the assets within the 72h and just had to drop a audio player node into the scene, but I can understand if you don't want to do that.
High Caffeine Black Tea by SLEEPYMENACE 2023-10-18T17:02:46Z
I liked the music, and voice acting especially was a very nice touch!
Infinite Square Well by orangeoceans 2023-10-03T13:53:47Z
Interesting concept! I especially liked the feel of turning knobs and listening to the soundscape morph underneath.
I've completed two of the "quests" but I'm not sure if I've seen the definitive end. That might just be part of the intended experience though, so I'm not complaining. It was a nice interactive experience overall!
Space Bar ☆ Porter q(≧▽≦q) by Kuchinashi 2023-10-05T10:43:28Z
Cutest Bro ever! Puzzles felt interesting but not too hard, just right for it to be an enjoyable experience. The music was good too and fits the mood well. Well done!
Before The Trip by Nilan 2023-10-06T16:31:42Z
Wow, that's a lot of different stuff! I can tell a lot of effort went into depicting them all in such detail, but given the sheer number it's sometimes still a bit hard to tell what is supposed to be what. I was stuck on "sunscreen" for quite a while. I guess that captures the intended mood pretty faithfully though. Nice game!
東京メトロ 「tokyo metro」 by Ben Heil 2023-10-04T13:29:59Z
Cool aesthetic. I like how the notes are keysounded. Too many rhythm games just go for a boring generic "pon" nowadays. I've also got a freeze mid-song, somewhere during the second half. I don't remember what my streak was at the time though. Still, well done!
