Just played through it for the first time. Total Score of 1477 Coins. The chain reaction was super fun and was a stress reliever after getting higher in the difficulty. The coins disappearing was a good incentive to force myself to move around and attempt to get more coins. My only issue is that I can just hold down left click in the corner for a long period of time until the difficulty starts scaling. There's good tension when the trash piles up too high and enough of the timer to feel like you're making it out until the last second.

Bugs: Title Card stayed the entire game and the end screen didn't go through all the way. Little bit of a problem, but resolved it. I had to take the Zip File and place the EXE file in the exported Zip location to start the game.

Overall really enjoyed my time with this and hope to see more!

nanolotl 2022-10-03 05:06

The explosions were very satisfying, especially when basically the entire screen explodes at once. Quite liked the music too. Only thing missing I think is something to break up the repetitiveness of the gameplay a bit. Good job

naemis 2022-10-03 05:12

@nanolotl Thanks for playing my game! It means a lot to me. I do agree there was a lot of repetitiveness and I really wish I could've added more gameplay elements (like power-ups, more trash types, etc.), but I wanted to REALLY make sure I didn't overscope as I did that in previous game-jams.

Any critique like this is greatly appreciated :D

2022-10-03 05:21

First playthrough - 1850 coins. Second playthrough - 1274 coins.

At later levels (5ish and up) the game gets more challenging and the bigger, cascading explosions were incredibly satisfying. Classic, great dopamine/bejeweled style game with a bomber twist. Music was not too repetitive, and quite honestly meshed well with the intense focus/concentration required to do well at later levels.

Would have like to see more bomb/rock variations and change of music/pace of music at different stages.

Overall, it was fun to play. Well Done.

googlypoo 2022-10-03 05:30

Explosions are very satisfying. I didn't do very well on my first game though, only got to level 5 :sob:

Music adds a lot, dialogue scenes are well done, and skippable when needed. Impressive level of polish.

thedashdude 2022-10-03 05:30

I had fun. Monkey brain liked setting off massive explosions. Got to ~1800.

khaotom 2022-10-03 05:31

Ah, i had a hard time at first until I remembered my ABCs. "Always Be Cocktailing". Once I learned to hold the left mouse down instead of trying to be to strategic I had better luck. Still no good end though... Quite a nice game and those chain reactions are satisfying!

davidbradbury 2022-10-03 05:37

Nice work and solid loop! I think what others have touched on are about right. I think the loop ended up being mostly the same after getting used to things. Totally understand keeping scope creep down though. Solid work, graphics, and nice little tune there!

chaseplays 2022-10-03 05:39

2435 on my second try!

Genuinely very fun. At first I thought the lack of risk/reward in the game design would be a problem but for a game as short as this it's just really fun to blow the stuff up. Risk/reward still might improve the game but still very fun regardless, great job!

gcrexx 2022-10-03 05:51

I really found myself wanting there to be more and thats a good thing! I enjoyed the art and the music added a lot here.Very simple but satisfying when you get a lot of explosions at once. The issue is that it lags the game a lot when that happens and thats like someone talking over the punchline. 1st run 1109 - 2nd run 1800+

m11 2022-10-03 08:17

Thought the explosions were very satisfying, and that the loop felt fun :)

fabian-denter 2022-10-03 09:21

Agree with everyone that the explosions are very satisfying! Not sure if intended, but one chain reaction filled the entire screen with coins which made me laugh, because it was unexpected after the rather slow start. My framerate dropped to single digits a few times when multiple big explosions happened in sequence, but it was also almost like an accidental bullet time effect ;) Overall a fun experience, well done!

rolly 2022-10-03 09:46

"Wait if I keep the click down, he keeps throwing molotovs? Niiiice!"

Very cool game! The explosions were really satisfying. The gameplay could have been improved (some way to purchase upgrades could have solved this). In the end, I just kept pressing space, left-clicking, and going left and right, but without actually attempting to do anything. I just sat and watched.

You did a very good job with the visuals and animations, everything works well together.

The music was a bit too repetitive in my opinion, but all sound effects are really good and feel consistent!

Great entry!

harry-alissavakis 2022-10-03 09:59

Such an addictive and satisfying game! I got a good dose of serotonin every time I hit a combo with the dynamites and pretty much my whole screen turned into coins  Nice job! ^^

chitoyuu 2022-10-03 10:11

Things exploding = a lot of fun! The art looks nice, and the game while small in scope actually feels complete. I'm not sure if I have much more to add to the many comments here, except for a tiny technical thing about handling polyphony:

Right now the sound effects go very loud and clipping when many things explode at the same time. I imagine that this is because you put a separate `AudioStreamPlayer2D` node in everything that can explode, and simply fire them all off when the action becomes intense. What you can instead do though is to pool your `AudioStreamPlayer2D` nodes under a global AutoLoad in a ring buffer, and expose a function that moves & retriggers them one at a time. Almost as easy to access as a local node, but with 100% less clipping! It will sound a bit different, but still very satisfying.

Nice game!

naemis 2022-10-03 12:36

Yay, after playing god knows how many games and a nice long break I get to respond back to ya'll :D

@googlypoo Thank you for the feedback and kind words ^^

@thedashdude Explosions go boom :3c

@khaotom LMAO ABC's... but yas! The bug became the feature :D

@davidbradbury Yeah... I really wish I could've added more stuff, but I played it safe. I really wanted to but I didn't want to suffer 10 minutes before submission date like I had previously :P This is the first one I submitted 10-15 minutes before deadline, feeling satisfied haha. Thank you for your kind words and feedback!

@chaseplays I wanted to add some sort of trash enemy that shoots out black slime and stuns you, but I was afraid of the bugs that I would encounter and I already had a mechanic that could potentially drop the frames to 0 LOL. aaaa I really wish I added it now D:<

@gcrexx I, too, really wanted to add more. I was considering limiting how many explosive entities were out in the field but I didn't know how to do that and I really didn't want to find out... especially since it was my first time making a proper game using Godot. Bugs are scary and I tend to hyper fixate on fixing things. I also love how you guys are sharing your score haha.

@m11 Call me Michael Bay >:D Thanks for your kind words and feedback c:

@fabian-denter HONESTLY the bullet-time effect is actually a good way to describe how I felt about the lag issues sometimes. Often, it was problematic--but at the same time it enhanced the experience for certain occasions. I said above that I considered limiting the amount of entities, but I didn't know if I had enough time to research how to do it. Bugs are features :3

@rolly omg don't get me started on the music. When I was creating it I actually hated it but I didn't have time to change it since this was an hour and a half left into the jam. I knew if I kept working on it, I wouldn't be getting actually other proper work done that were more important :/ The title theme was the first variation, but I opted for the one you hear in game, which I wish I could've expanded upon more since it's literally only two measures long LOL

@harry-alissavakis Yas, big explosions are fun :D Thank you for your kind words and feedback ^^

@chitoyuu HEY you're the person who made the cute card game :D Nice to see you here and welcome!! ^^

Yes you are indeed 100% right about the polyphony???-honestly never heard that term before but yas! I was aware of that issue I just really didn't know how to use Godot's audio system so I really just splat it in and called it a day haha. I really really appreciate the feedback and tips tho! I will try this method and research more into it. It really means a lot that you're giving me this advice!

Anyways that was a lot of typing... THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING ALL YOUR GAMES AS WELL >:D Happy Jamming!

rickylee 2022-10-03 12:44

Very Cathartic ^^ I earned 1588 coins \o/ freedom! haha

This is a great little game, a couple times I had big lag spikes from sooo many coins after a giant chain reaction :') but I'm not complaining its great ^^ well made! :)

rolly 2022-10-03 13:48

@naemis I actually preferred the music in the game compared to the one in the title screen. :p I wouldn't say it's bad, but when you start a game for the 3rd time you'd like to hear something different. :D

malcom-thonger 2022-10-03 19:47

Super fun although i did get a bomb chain and it nearly crashed and totally froze from all the calcs going on lol. but super fun adn aestetically quite cool

thegamearchitect 2022-10-03 22:32

landfill is a real problem!

patbgames 2022-10-03 22:36

Very fun game, it take me some time to understand what to do, but like somebody said above, explosions are very satisfying 👍

2022-10-04 01:53

Within my first play through I accumulated around 1800 Coins, I'd say the overall concept of the game itself is really fun. It's kind of a mindless game where you can pick it up and just see how far you get. The multiple endings was a nice touch if I do say so myself. I feel that the game itself although it lagged the sounds were good, the UI was good, and the motion itself was fluid. Although there were a lot of explosions the gameplay itself was really calming in a sense for me. The music itself was nice and I appreciate the touch of the volume button. I'd agree with some people where variation would be nice such as rock shapes, maybe power ups?, but I think for what it is it's great!

smilewood 2022-10-04 01:58

Very fun game, there is something just satisfying about blasting big things into smaller things. The inclusion of things that could chain react with no danger to the player was fantastic and led to some of the best moments when everything went boom and the coins rained down. I did find that the music loop got a bit repetitive after playing for a while, but as the only complaint I could have that is a minor one. Overall a very fin game, well done!

willoxs 2022-10-04 13:18

Mh im agree with the majority here that the chain reactions are fun but i didnt feel like i earned them. Just luck. Maybe there could be a mechanic (limited dynamite or friendly fire f.e) to force more strategic play - but that would come with its own downsides too.

I got the good end(?) on my first try and was just fooling around the other times to get the bad one. Didnt encounter any bugs in the current version - good job.

pixelydian 2022-10-04 14:51

Cool game! I think I got the good end? It was a really satisfying moment when the entire screen of trash exploded and coins rained down. I really liked the intro too...very ominous. Music was awesome and fit the mood. Overall this is a great entry - my only suggestion would be to raise the stakes a bit by either giving the player HP (don't get hit by your own molotov cocktails), a cooldown timer on the molotovs, or maybe even needing to collect your ammo. I'm grasping at straws though - I had fun! great job!

yakovdavis 2022-10-04 17:12

Great game! I absolutely lost it when a giant explosion chain tanked my framerate and the explosion sound started clipping, 10/10 in humor just for that! On a serious note, this is very good, I like the sounds, the graphics, the feel. Great job!

deepfreeze 2022-10-05 15:52

Took me a moment to realise explosions weren't going to hurt me, but after that things were neat. The explosion chains and cascades were super satisfying. Graphics are pretty solid too. Would play again.

lectvs 2022-10-05 17:00

Very fun game! I blew up the entire trash heap and filled the screen with coins :smirk_cat: 10/10

mikoziq 2022-10-11 21:38

Got 1277 First try!

Pros:

- I like the simple graphics fidelity you went with - Scalability of the difficulty seems pretty good as well, however I believe it's pure RNG? - Love the powerups and ways to keep you occuppied with constant explosions and chain reactions - Like the variety of boulders - And the variety and scale of power-ups! - Glad you don't need to think about blowing yourself up - Quite Addictive gameplay! - Audio in a compo is always a +

Cons:

- Ummm... there's no good ending? - I believe the score depends too much on the RNG, unless there's a specific mechanic to spawn powerups for you

Overall, a great entry and a job well done!

boodbarbak 2022-10-18 17:55

Fun game. A bit repetitive. Funny how you can have a screen almost full of coins :) Controls, arts, animation and sound are more than good. Well done!
