Aw this was a really cute game. I have a soft spot and respect for old people. I felt like the game was foreshadowing into something bad and that would've been neat, but I'm also relieved it didn't. Great job! The sound track was really nice and the art was simple but nice.
It'd be pretty cool if you did it to the beat of the music, but other then that, pretty simple dodge, move, barrel roll your way to victory. Nice job!
This was so confusing in terms of orienting where I was. Like the comments said, I didn't realize that the screen was always rotating so that the player was below the planet... and even then I still couldn't do it ;_; Great game though!
I greatly appreciate games like this so I found it really neat and strategic, especially with the falling platforms. Would love to go against an AI though. Very nice graphics though!
Love the game, although I think there's a bug that stopped allowing me to use my mouse click...? Not sure what happened there, but I'll play it a bit longer when I get the time. Very pretty and reminds me of limbo, although it would be nice to fix some of the hitboxes as well. Just a lil' word of advice :D
@Ajay.2002 I'm not quite sure actually haha. It was at the very beginning of the game, I kept dying at the large boulder/spike and once I past after learning how to read, it stopped working once I died at the spikes afterwards... I guess you can say I got stuck between a rock and a hard place. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Pretty fun game! It'd be nice if you can move past the objects that you've placed instead of getting stuck sometimes. Though I didn't know what I was doing until I read the description of this game.
Pretty cool stuff dude, although fix the hitboxes if you can. I think that'd make the game a little more enjoyable as everything I touch is pixel perfect and would die in rather strange ways. Other then that, using the spear is fun albeit a bit wonky. Good job :D
As the title says... it is overWHELMING... fun game, a bit confusing to get the hang of but it kept my attention going so I'll give you that :D Nice little game you got here, good job!
I'll have to agree with the comments here, the controls were pretty confusing so starting the game was a bit weird. Also don't really know what's going on. It'd be nice if you highlighted or I was able to select the small penguins by clicking the top-left icons.
This is pretty well made! Although, you might want to fix the camera angle, perhaps having it a little bit higher then the player so it doesn't feel like my face is always on the ground. This is surprisingly well-made even without the animations/etc./etc. Very fun!
Wow, the swarm mechanic is really fun to watch. Nice use of the theme! Good job!
@erendelous Yeah, but it was more of an over time kind of build up. The waves do go infinitely though :D Thanks for the feed back!
@Alpagakira Thanks! Spent restless nights working on this :D
@somuch Thanks :D I greatly appreciate it! Makes it worth those long hours spent on this. By the way, there's animations for a lot of the objects in the game, even the spawning of the little holes I thought were really cool.
@Predominant Yeah... I wanted to mostly focus on the animating/artwork/mood part of the game... and ended up spending more time on those aspects then improving the actual gameplay/conbtrols. The code actually came last and because I spent more time then I would've liked on the art I didn't get to add the other content I wanted to add to this game.
Other then that, glad you enjoyed it :D
@nate-wec Yup! One of my favorite games from when I was a lot younger was Limbo. I actually didn't do it with the intention of giving it those vibes though, it just kinda turned out like that. Guess that's the power of inspiration, eh?
@aviv871 Appreciate the comments :)
@mrjorts I actually have a lot of sound effects for the game, I just didn't have time to add them because the game was virtually unplayable the last 2-3 hours and had to fix it haha.
@lexyvil Thank yooou! This game took a lot out of me so it means a lot :D
@dark-roast-studios Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I really did want to add more sfx and I did have them, I just had 5 minutes left before the end of the compo and I didn't have time to add them.
@manusaiz Oh! You're the person who made Grandma Knight! Thanks for the feed back :D I didn't have time to add any more mechanics to the game (like dodging per se), I was literally stressing out because I didn't implement the wave system 3 hours before the compo ended and I never done a wave system before xD.
Thanks for the feedback, it means a lot. Yeah it does feel a little tight. Will toy around with it more.
This game is very simple, nice, and straight-forward! The one thing I really enjoyed was the constant beeping/rhythm that was going on each second... and how the frogs jumped each second... just the synchronous movement and sound made my rhythm game loving brain happy.
If anything to critique, I wish there was a run ability to move a little bit faster... just some extra movement would make things not feel so slow and stagnant. It's either the enemies come to you or you come to them... slowly.
Anyways very nice game! Happy jamming!
Game was very short and had a lot of potential! Aesthetics-wise, the game was very pretty and you added a lot of visuals that made the game very engaging for me. Music was short, simple, fine and there were no sfx.
If anything, I wish there was more content--I can see you sacrificed some of the time you used to make artwork assets which I'm super grateful for--but since this IS a game jam, I wish I could've seen more of the gameplay itself. It's honestly a fine balance, but nonetheless you did a good job for your first time using Godot!
Good work!
The game feels incomplete. Core concept is fun, I just wish there was a lot more to it. There's an attack and defense stat that's more or less unused. There is no way to recover HP after battling it out with the others... and statistically I don't even think it's possible to win the game even if I got a full surround on every single of of them. If there are more then 10 enemies and they each have 10 hp... we're talking about 100+ HP in total among all of them.
Other then that, the artwork is nice and the jumping effect when the character is ready to take their turn is neat. I just really wish there was more to the game.
Good job on the Jam! :D
This was a very clever and fun game! The game design and aesthetic was very good, and it was really fun trying to figure out the culprit with the least amount of deaths. Also, the graphics and audio were very nice and clearly showed your personality in the game.
Some interesting mechanics that could've been added to make it a little easier (probably in earlier levels?) would be to have a point system per round, and you lose points the more people die. That way, it would incentive the players to figure out the killer as soon as possible without having them all drop dead.
Either way, very well polished game. Great job!
This game was so cute wth! It had a lot of charm and personality and you set the tone of the game straight away. It also had an adorable ending. Great game with a lot of funny twists. Goes to show how information is the most important thing heh.
I enjoyed the use of hiding game play mechanics within dialogue... very charming! Can't really say or find anything to critique it because I feel like this was more narrative driven. Very simple, cute, and overall well-polished game!
Great work! Happy Jamming!
@nanolotl Thanks for playing my game! It means a lot to me. I do agree there was a lot of repetitiveness and I really wish I could've added more gameplay elements (like power-ups, more trash types, etc.), but I wanted to REALLY make sure I didn't overscope as I did that in previous game-jams.
Any critique like this is greatly appreciated :D
Yay, after playing god knows how many games and a nice long break I get to respond back to ya'll :D
@googlypoo Thank you for the feedback and kind words ^^
@thedashdude Explosions go boom :3c
@khaotom LMAO ABC's... but yas! The bug became the feature :D
@davidbradbury Yeah... I really wish I could've added more stuff, but I played it safe. I really wanted to but I didn't want to suffer 10 minutes before submission date like I had previously :P This is the first one I submitted 10-15 minutes before deadline, feeling satisfied haha. Thank you for your kind words and feedback!
@chaseplays I wanted to add some sort of trash enemy that shoots out black slime and stuns you, but I was afraid of the bugs that I would encounter and I already had a mechanic that could potentially drop the frames to 0 LOL. aaaa I really wish I added it now D:<
@gcrexx I, too, really wanted to add more. I was considering limiting how many explosive entities were out in the field but I didn't know how to do that and I really didn't want to find out... especially since it was my first time making a proper game using Godot. Bugs are scary and I tend to hyper fixate on fixing things. I also love how you guys are sharing your score haha.
@m11 Call me Michael Bay >:D Thanks for your kind words and feedback c:
@fabian-denter HONESTLY the bullet-time effect is actually a good way to describe how I felt about the lag issues sometimes. Often, it was problematic--but at the same time it enhanced the experience for certain occasions. I said above that I considered limiting the amount of entities, but I didn't know if I had enough time to research how to do it. Bugs are features :3
@rolly omg don't get me started on the music. When I was creating it I actually hated it but I didn't have time to change it since this was an hour and a half left into the jam. I knew if I kept working on it, I wouldn't be getting actually other proper work done that were more important :/ The title theme was the first variation, but I opted for the one you hear in game, which I wish I could've expanded upon more since it's literally only two measures long LOL
@harry-alissavakis Yas, big explosions are fun :D Thank you for your kind words and feedback ^^
@chitoyuu HEY you're the person who made the cute card game :D Nice to see you here and welcome!! ^^
Yes you are indeed 100% right about the polyphony???-honestly never heard that term before but yas! I was aware of that issue I just really didn't know how to use Godot's audio system so I really just splat it in and called it a day haha. I really really appreciate the feedback and tips tho! I will try this method and research more into it. It really means a lot that you're giving me this advice!
Anyways that was a lot of typing... THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING ALL YOUR GAMES AS WELL >:D Happy Jamming!
This is a pretty fun game! The loop is actually really fun and I think it's a really cool idea how you record their actions for their future children. Very interesting concept!
Only issue I had was I wish you didn't have to wait a whole loop to command the next generation. It would be simpler to just click on a tree, select how many you want to take, and then move them to whichever deposit you want to go to. It sometimes feels like forever to have to individually select each person... especially when there's a lot of houses and the resources dry out too fast. Perhaps making the resources from one place larger and the cost of things more expensive to incentive speeding up the process.
Anyways great game! Happy jamming!
This game is pretty cool! Visually and aesthetically, this game is very appealing! I really like the intense light-up from the solar flare and made the vibes very nice! Controls felt nice (despite tank controls :P) and the settings was very nice. Sometimes I would get stuck on top of the rocks but still be considered safe from the solar flare haha
Only issues I had were I wish the solar flare didn't last nearly as long as it should have, thus giving more down time. A good 2-4 seconds of waiting would be nice so it wouldn't make each stop feel eternal.
Otherwise very good game! Nice job!
The game was very fun and engaging! I loved how you only had 10-seconds to desperately figure out what they want. Also I love how you took a concept that you see in other platforms and put it into a game... it was a great idea.
I agree with some of the other comments saying that some of the gifts were a bit arbitrary for the hints.
Artwork is alright, but honestly I think it fits the mood of the game very well. Music is great and really sets the tone of the game as well.
Good job!
So... I want to give this game my honest criticism. In terms of theme, you did a very good job on the theme as it basically met the requirements of it.
The gameplay could've been very fun if there was a lot more content in the game itself... as it felt very bare bones. In terms of design, there are a lot of things you can do to make the game itself more engaging.
1. Adding some sort of power-up system or progression system or SOME sort of goal to achieve. Having a shooter with no end in sight CAN be fun if there was content in it to justify continuing through (ie. having some sort of stakes involved. Something to lose) 2. Graphics were very pretty, but I feel like with an understanding of balance, theme, aesthetics, design--you could really make these graphics shine. 3. Using your level-space appropriately. There is a lot of extra room you could use to fill the game up with content. I understand you want the character to feel like they're in an endless duel, but other then just being stuck in a platform in the middle of space, there's not much else.
Don't treat this as me saying your game is bad, the movement and shooting fluidity is very nice. I just want you to improve and make the best game you can :D
Good work on the jam!
The atmosphere and sfx is what really made this game shine, along with the nice 3D visuals. I agree with some other commenters saying how it was mostly the atmosphere and tone of the game is what carried it. If this were perhaps some story driven game (or walking sim) with a character narrating some reason they were heading to this light house while having some stakes, I can imagine this being a very nice mood.
Any criticism I would say would be the lack of other gameplay elements and reason to be moving towards the lighthouse. Additionally, I felt like the lamp and the lightning gave me more context clues and help on where to go... while the lighthouse was just my beacon on the map on where to go.
Otherwise very nice! Good job!
Honestly, this game is such an awesome concept. I'm a big fan of the cute anime-esque character designs so that's a big plus for me :D
The game was hard to understand, but it became simpler after the second/third time... especially when I understood the intro was a semi-tutorial. To be honest, I still really didn't understand what the hell I was doing... but it was fun either way haha. I think the game would benefit a lot more if you have to play cards to react to the dialogue instead of physical cards they played as that would make the game stand out even more and make it a lot more unique.
One thing for me that bothered me was that there was so much information on the screen that taking in what I need to do within 10 seconds was challenging for me, especially in the beginning with no clear idea of what I was doing.
Good job on the game! I like it a lot :D
This game was very fun! I think the idea was very creative and although it's quite simple, the game itself has a lot of replay-ability and very engaging! The aesthetic, design, and artwork was well done and matched your own theme accordingly. The game does get hard as you get higher, but I suppose that makes sense. Got up 22m! Well done.
The game and idea itself were really fun! The art, aesthetics, and sounds all fit very nicely together in a little package. This was a very well polished game in terms of mechanics and gameplay.
The only issue I had was very similar to what other commenters had. There was a lot of waiting and moving to tight corners in the room. That wasn't the biggest issue I had the drained the fun a little bit of the game. It was mostly due to the level design and how I would get so far into a level (I think it was around 12-14) only to die and have to do it all over again (long corridors that were easy to get stuck on around corners)
Otherwise, very good game! Good job!
First thing foremost, camera was super claustrophobic accompanying how fast the player was moving. Although, I do understand the need to be that fast because 10 seconds to check an entire cave is pretty brutal... and this game really relies heavily on RNG.
What would be cool is to provide more hints that would guide the player to the location (and I guess you did that with the glow effect), however 10 seconds to find an increasing number of gems in a very big location is not nearly enough time. It's more of a panic run to get to scout out the entire map from one location to the next without getting stuck on walls.
The artwork is good programmer artwork and works well with the overall setting and tone of the game. Meaning they're all consistent with what you're going for.
A scavenging hunt game can be really fun! I just think with some more polish and adding additional gameplay mechanics to make the scavenging hunt more interesting will be beneficial!
I wish you the best in your game dev journey :D
I'm a big fan of bullet-hells so this game was very enjoyable. Sometimes the bullets were a little hard to see because the color values of the bullets and the bg were very similar (ie. clarity with some of the visuals, the blue boss in particular).
I like the little song as it suited well with the game. Very nice work :D
Game was cool! Wish I could see the statistics of what each tower does by highlighting/selecting them. Otherwise fun game!
The game was unique in having to move the items to the customers (felt very diner-dashy) but I feel like it was missing some kind of polish. Perhaps maybe because there was no stakes of losing a customer as I can literally just wait for the item to come out. Item spawns were a bit too slow as there would be downtime of the player just waiting for the item to come by.
Having variety of customers that will pay more to get their item sooner (aka be more impatient) but pay more gold would also help this problem as well.
Overall, very cool innovative and cool idea, graphics were fine for what you were going for, and audio worked as well... I just believe that with a little more fine-tuning the gameplay elements and this would've been rated a lot higher.
Hey this game doesn't pertain to the theme!!
Jokes aside, this game is both audibly and visually amazing in what you did in 48 hours. It's almost hard to believe that you did this in 48 hours. Incredible story, really reminded me of the story from the game Darkwood.
You have really great design principles and the color, tone, and composition of each frame in the right side screen was done very well. Syncing the music to align with the visual distortion was also amazing. You have a great knack for setting the mood/tone/feeling of a game. I believe you really highlighted what you're really good at making. I checked your other works and your design is incredible.
Audio work was also incredible and really set the tone for the game. The constant buzzing, mimicking the sound of the pulse that you would hear, the distorted voice acting (is that considered solo for compo lol?), and the environmental sounds (wind noises, car moving noises, etc.)
If there are any criticisms, this didn't really fit along with the theme... maybe every 10 seconds the visual distortion happened and if that's the case that is incredible attention to detail. I'll change my rating if that was your intention lmao. I'd also love to see you try a take on game mechanics and work on things on your weaker side.
Overall great game! Love to see more professional work from you in the future :D
