LD38 — A Small World

W.R.L.D. (World Reconnaissance eLite Defense) by TerraCottaFrog 2017-04-30T19:52:40Z

Me before playing the game: "What? I NEED TO GET THE HIGHSCORE!"

Me after roughly 10 seconds: "Oh... well maybe not."

The game is insanely difficult, and that was it's best quality! I can't say that I'll be beating the high score, but I'm pretty sure I'll be coming back, so who knows...? The graphics were perfect, and the music fit well, with all of the SFX being excellent! The high score system is incredible, and tied everything together. This is exactly what a modern-day arcade game should be like!

My only complaint is that sometimes the controls feel a bit weird to work with. With the spaceships having perfect aiming, it often feels unfair. This isn't exactly a bad thing, as it contributes to the difficulty, but perhaps having using "w" to move and the mouse to point where you want to go could have also created a difficult, yet more fair experience. It would allow for increased accuracy, although this would sacrifice some of the difficulty, which may not be good. Maybe I'm just mad that I'm not able to beat the high-score . However, unless it was possible to test this, I'm not sure how much the game would sacrifice by using these controls.

I should point out that when I saw the gif of your game, I immediately, audibly said, "*gasp*! he made a good game!". Turns out, I was right! This game was very well constructed and polished, and easily one of the best, if not THE best entry I've seen in this competition. Fantastic job!

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-04-25T23:58:07Z

@binaryferret Thank you so much! One of my goals this time was to not teach the game through a tutorial, so it meant a lot to me that you recognized that.

@richard-michael-smith Thanks! In that level, you'll have to use the blue slime as a sort of trampoline, and then switch times in mid-air. It can be difficult to get the timing right, and even I have a hard time with it sometimes.

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-04-29T00:19:01Z

@harry-jacobs Thank you! I'm so happy that you enjoyed the game.

@hackschnitzel Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't know that Feedback Friends was even being used for LD38, but it should be fixed now!

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-01T01:52:06Z

@huvaakoodia Thanks for playing my game, even though you're not too big of a fan of the genre! As for how :man: + :clock: + :apple::apple::apple: = :palm_tree: :sheep: :sunflower: :pig:…?, I believe it's clear that it's simply a completely accurate demonstration of time travel, at least from my experience.

@terracottafrog Thank you for your feedback, and the link should be fixed now! I had messed with the image uploading, and I guess I broke it there. As for actions that you can't go back from, you can actually press 'r' to restart the level. It says this at the start of the game, as well as on this game's page. Finally, thanks for the input on the jump button. If I ever make a post-compo version (I probably will), I'll definitely change that button to "z".

@camilo Thank you, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! As for the music, I made it last minute (well, I spent around an hour near the end), and had originally wanted it to be longer, but I assumed that the game was short enough that the length was about right. If I ever make a longer version, I'll add new tracks for each section (each level is too short to include a unique variation, but longer pieces of the game could include completely new tracks), each hopefully closer to 2-3 minutes, with less repetition. Also, given the relatively positive reception of the game, I probably WILL make a more complete version, but not necessarily in the near future.

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-01T18:07:30Z

@aurelien I'm so happy that you enjoyed it! I intentionally made that last apple hard, because... I didn't have a valid reason for that. It probably made 100%ing the game more satisfying though, although maybe the "satisfaction" that I was looking for was more "relief" than anything. When it comes to the inside of the planet changing, that gets into lore. You wanna talk lore?

@richard-michael-smith Yay! (I think that's all I should say...?)

@gamequester Thanks! I'm happy that you enjoyed it!

@doppelgunner Haha, good job finishing it. some of the levels can get difficult

@anayk Huh, I don't know why that's happening. The only things that I can think of are that you didn't give it enough time to load (honestly, it shouldn't need much time, so that's probably not it), or that your Java version is outdated (given that the window is set up at all, that's probably not it either). Does the music start, or anything?

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-02T01:52:16Z

@mars Thank you so much! Good job collecting all of the apples, and I'm happy that you enjoyed the game.

@superpokeunicorn Wow! Given that this was actually my first time doing chiptune music, I'm really happy with how much you enjoyed it! Thank you!

@red-fan-games I think that it should work now - the old version only supported v1.8, but I think it will work with v1.7 now.

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-02T04:15:52Z

@red-fan-games Great! I actually had to revert back to a Java 1.8 version, because 1.7 ended up a bit unstable. Sorry about that!

@merrak If you try it again, I don't think it will crash. I've seen that bug, and I believe it's rooted in the audio somehow (I'm not sure...). Even so, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@anayk Hm, that's weird. I'm not even sure what I can do if the audio DOES play. Sorry it doesn't work...

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-04T05:33:10Z

@martenscedric I'm so happy you liked the game! I'm not sure if it'll get in the top 50, but it means a lot to me that you think it might!

@mango-malarkey Yeah, it can get a bit difficult, but thanks for playing, even if you didn't finish!

@avavt Haha, sorry that you couldn't get the one apple. The apples were meant to teach more difficult examples of the same concept, but sadly it takes a level of repetition to get that one. I probably should have made it a bit easier. I'm glad that you liked the music and the art, and that you enjoyed the game!

@bendev-games Wow! Thank you! I'll probably make a full version of the game in the future, so you'll get the levels that you want

@palemachine Thank you! That one apple is the hardest by far (one of my friends even thought it was impossible). Usually, I even have a hard time with that one. Besides that, I'm really happy you enjoyed the level design and base mechanic.

@zebrainflames I completely agree with you that puzzle levels are better, but they take longer to make. They also require more space in the world to make efficient, and more time to play, so I had to rely more on the platforming elements. If I make a full version, I'll try and rely more on puzzle elements, and I love you idea about the past creating effects in the future.

@numnumdude Oh no! That was the last level. Well, I'm happy that you even played that far. You mentioned the puzzle elements being lost near the end, which was because of time constraints. Puzzles take more time and space to make, so I wasn't able to do that. Besides that, thank you!

@spiteful-fox Haha, some apples are pretty hard (replayability factor?).

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-07T16:21:56Z

@cvetk0 Thank you! I'm so happy that you liked the graphics, music, and mechanic! The difficulty does get, well, difficult, and I probably should have made it a bit easier, but I hope it wasn't too bad. Also, yes it is lava . Thanks for playing!

@navot I tried my best with my process of introducing mechanics in level design, and I'm glad that you recognized that. Also, congrats for finishing the game!

@kappaix Thanks for beating the game, even though you didn't get all of the apples (I got pretty mean with some of those).

@breno-m Yeah, I noticed it was similar to *Tangent* as well, but I still think it was different enough. I had a lot of fun making the music, too! Thank you!

@morbidcamel101 The third dimension absolutely *is* time ! I'm glad that you enjoyed the score and idea. Thank you for playing!

@w1n5t0n Glad you liked the idea!

@candlesan Thanks! I tried to use those little details to make the game as fair as possible. Thanks for playing!

@stevenjmiller I'm glad you liked the music and graphics. Thanks!

@pixzleone I *completely* agree with your comment about the small spaces, and that I could have been more thoughtful about the space that players would need. I'm happy that you liked the graphics and music, as well as the level design. Thank you!

@fingerpass Thanks! The bullets can get pretty difficult, especially mixed with the time traveling.

@cogcomp Thank you! I tried my best with the learning curve and level design, so I'm happy that you pointed it out.

@frankzhao I'm glad you liked it!

@veralos Nothing really happens if you get all of the apples. Each of them are sort of individual collectibles that affect the planet. Maybe that wasn't the best design choice on my part. I also wanted to make sure that you knew what the alternative level looked like if you couldn't swap, so thanks for noticing! Thanks!

@feips Wow, really? Your favorite game? I'm so happy that you enjoyed it, and it is a whole lot like Tangent.

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-10T17:04:59Z

@valiap Thanks! I'm glad that you liked my take on the time travel idea. Also, did you mean BGM for "Background Music", or something else?

@phaze0 I'm happy that you liked it, and yeah, I made that apple waaay too hard. That was my overtired brain making decisions, "Hmm... people who finished the entire game are gonna HAVE to get that last apple. I'm gonna make it really, really hard." Sorry about that !

@nedmakesgames Thank you! The music was a bit repetitive, but I was hoping that the game was short enough to justify the short time. Honestly, I probably *could have* made it longer. I'm glad that you liked the controls and art as well, and if I make a post-compo version, I'll try and making the collision a bit more forgiving.

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-19T03:31:26Z

@omiya-games Yeah, it's surprising to me how different the comments about difficulty are. Some people thought it was way too hard, similar to you, but others said that the difficulty was perfect. I think some people felt determined to collect all of the apples, which may have been why some people felt it was too hard, and you fell into this category. Still, I really appreciate your feedback, and will change the difficulty a bit if I make a post-jam version.

@jupiter-hadley Thanks for playing!

@ellian Wow, I'm so happy that you liked it! Thank you so much!

@korvyashka I'm honestly a bit overwhelmed by some of the positivity I've gotten! Thanks so much, and it means a lot to me that this was your favorite yet!

@siegfriedcroes Thanks!

@dejvo Sorry that you got a bit confused, and weren't a fan of the controls. The concept can be a bit hard to grasp at first, and maybe I could have fixed the controls a bit more. Thanks!

@pascalman Thank you!

@kurekurecicz I may actually make a full version of this! I need to figure out how big I'd want to make it, but I've definitely been thinking about it a lot. I'll be sure to play your game as well! Thank you so much!

Calor by stevenjmiller 2017-05-07T19:39:06Z

Amazing! At first, I was honestly scared by the tutorial (in fact, I stopped playing altogether), but when I came back, I realized what a great game this was. The battle system is really fun (like, really fun), and it's something that I would love to see more of. The graphics were also great, and it's incredible how much you fit into this. My only complaint is that certain aspects were really confusing, and never really got an explanation (such as what happens when you die, and the HP system). I really loved this, and great work!

Calor by stevenjmiller 2017-05-09T03:33:53Z

I'm honestly coming back to state how much I loved this battle system. If you made a more complete game based completely around that system, I would probably play it a whole lot. It's a relaxing sort of puzzle that I just really enjoyed a lot. Great job again!

Routine by Breno_M 2017-05-07T00:01:20Z

Interesting game! I liked the system of making rebels meet each other, and the atmosphere was very fitting! The multi-destinations for workspace and days off was nice, and added an extra bit of depth to the game. I think the game could have been a bit better if the schedules were a bit clearer, and if the mouse could have also been used as the camera, but overall, great job! It was a well-executed concept that I had a lot of fun with!

REDBOW by PixzleOne 2017-04-29T02:50:25Z

This was fun! As much as it didn't fit the theme TOO well (unless you were shrunk, explaining the huge spiders), but even so, you made a great game! I liked the procedural generation, and was really impressed when I realized that level 1 was different the second time. Even so, the levels could have used a bit more variety and challenge, especially in later levels, and the levels could have used an arrow to the door. As much as I loved the randomly generated levels, they weren't interesting enough to be fun to explore; only interesting enough to be DIFFERENT, so exploring the level to find the door came across as more frustrating than anything. Finally, shooting the enemies was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Great job and thanks!

The Adventurer Davidson by Hlavik 2017-05-10T17:49:13Z

****What I Liked:****

* The graphics were good! * The mechanic was fun. * The physics all felt really good.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* When you go through the portal at the end, you end up at the beginning of the next level while still in the air. This can often make levels feel impossible.

****Great job and thanks!****

Intergalactic Gold Rush by Omiya Games 2017-05-19T05:27:29Z

****What I Liked:****

* Oh my, this is fun. It's kind of addicting, and stressful, and just overall amazing. Fantastic job with this. * The graphic intensity increasing was really cool. I loved that. * The music was a good fit for this, even though it seems like you didn't make it yourself. * The terrain types were really good, and added an extra level of strategy. * Having two scoring systems was a nice touch. * The physics felt good, and it was really really fun to grab everything. * I got a score of 6040. I think I got pretty good at the game, but I still didn't beat you, @aeveis!

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* Falling off of the stage always felt like a really cheap way to die. I understood it when everything fell around you, but "gliding" towards the end of the map and falling just felt kind of sad.

****Great job and thanks!****

Invasion - The Chronicle by Kappa.B 2017-04-27T13:48:04Z

I should start off by saying that your concept is fantastic. The idea of a deck-building small tower defense, for some reason, intrigues me, but is understandably difficult to execute within 48 hours. Once you had the base game finished, you also had to worry about each card, which also needed to be interesting, and by playing the game, I can tell that you didn't have quite enough time to finish. Sometimes the game was a bit hard to understand, and I'm still not sure how to get research points (which felt important). I wasn't sure if I just never had the right cards to enable getting me research points, or if it's actually incredibly difficult to do so. Also, the UI got a bit confusing. Sometimes I would click on a button, but had to interact rather than being given the option to exit out. This was a major problem when I would choose to destroy a card. Finally, the lack of a visual/audio reaction to shooting ships got a bit confusing, although it wasn't too difficult to understand.

I love the graphics in the game, and the cards were all interesting. I saw SO MUCH potential while playing it for a post-compo version, and would love to see you make that. Almost everything felt very well thought out, and had a certain amount of depth that I enjoyed. The game got me excited.

Anyways, especially given the depth that the game required, good job!

Feather Fighter by Ellian 2017-05-19T04:45:15Z

****What I Liked:****

* The graphics were really good, and were paired really well with great SFX. * I appreciated the little recoil effect from shooting. It added a nice little touch to the game. * The music was really good, but sadly the title screen music was better than the in-game music, haha. * The enemies were well designed. * The increase in difficulty was fast, but fitting. It also added more variation to the enemies. * I liked the world defense idea that you made. With the terrain constantly changing, it made the game never feel old.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* I almost wrote an entire comment not knowing that you could shoot up. You really could have made it more obvious. * Maybe you could have made a way to regenerate the terrain. Ladders could be cool too. This isn't really a nitpick, just a suggestion in case you made a post-compo version.

****Great job and thanks!****

EDIT: Also, the x + space combination was a bit weird. Maybe next time have an option for WASD and some other key...

A Small World Cup by rujo 2017-04-24T21:40:37Z

This was a fun, silly game! The physics make the game feel great, and nothing feels very "off". At one point, it seemed like I was in the middle of a match when it declared the winner, although maybe I just missed something. The AI wasn't the smartest, but that didn't matter when playing. Usually, the player's own stupidity and the interesting physics make the game feel challenging, while not "unfair". I thoroughly enjoyed this game! Great job!

Gaia by PowerSpark 2017-05-08T23:00:30Z

Great game! I beat the whole game and loved all of it. There were a few glitches with the physics, and sometimes it didn't feel like "x" would work (such as at the start of levels), but besides that, the gameplay felt great. The audio was good too, and I liked the graphics a lot. My only suggestion is to make the restarting a bit quicker. Good work, and thanks!

Lottery: you judge them I judge you by doppelgunner 2017-05-01T04:42:13Z

I really liked this! There wasn't much to it, and the ending came across as confusing to me, but I realized that the game wasn't exactly about the gameplay, as much as what it makes you think about, and you were successful. Overall, fantastic job!

Step-Squish by NumNumDude 2017-05-06T03:50:04Z

This was *fun*, and I mean that! The graphics weren't perfect, but it was *fun*. The gameplay was simple and even got repetitive, but that sort of simple repetition became addicting and *fun*. If you made it a bit more difficult and varied, this could make a great mobile app (using scores and not an ending). This was great!

ANTIVIRUS by KappaIX 2017-05-07T00:18:36Z

Wow! I loved everything about this - the gameplay, the music, the art! It was addicting, and all felt very polished. The growing mechanic was great and I was really surprised when I first saw it. I liked the enemy designs, and overall had a lot of fun! I wasn't able to finish it, but only got halfway through the 3rd level(?) when I started to get annoyed that I kept restarting at the beginning. It would have been nice to have spawnpoints set each time you grow. Overall, fantastic job! I'd love to see if you ever made a post-jam version.

Starstruck Ducky by HuvaaKoodia 2017-05-01T21:55:28Z

I enjoyed the writing and characters of this, and the concept was great! It got a bit tense when it neared Day 7, and I still hadn't won (I did it though, don't worry ), which was something I loved about it. Sadly, I noticed that some of the text was recycled, but it didn't ruin the experience. Overall, this was a silly game that I'm glad I played .

Daydreaming Island by camilo 2017-05-01T00:46:36Z

Great game! The music and instrumentation were very fitting and great (especially the house theme), and the whole experience vaguely reminded me of Undertale. Sometimes I had to blindly walk around and press things to solve puzzles, but nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The environment fit together so perfectly to where I felt the need to keep playing. Sometimes the resolution of the pixel-art felt uneven between areas, or even at a single place (the top of the lighthouse's light was lower than the bottom half), and I feel the need to bring up the controls, which generally felt choppy, and even inaccurate sometimes. This game's strongest assets were its music and atmosphere, which fit the game perfectly. Great job and thanks! I loved this!

EDIT: I meant the lighthouse theme, in case it wasn't obvious.

Mouse and Blade by superpokeunicorn 2017-05-08T00:50:49Z

Great job! I loved the graphics and music, the enemy designs were diverse and fun! I liked the simplicity of the game, because it allowed the depth to inhabit the world. My only complaint is that I had a hard time with "x" being jump and "z" being attack. This is probably because my game used "x" as an interact button, but I feel like they should have been reversed. This gave me a really hard time with the game, because I could never remember which button was which. Besides that (which was probably my fault), you made a fantastic game!

World Requires by phaze0 2017-05-07T05:07:58Z

This was fun! I tried and couldn't finish it, but I really liked the idea and execution. Everything was well-done and polished! Great job!

Planetary Escape by w1n5t0n 2017-05-07T03:01:38Z

This was a great concept for an arcade style game, that could have benefitted from a bit of added control. I was never able to get more than a few points, because I kept shooting myself, which probably shouldn't have been possible. I liked the gravity effect, and it was fun to try and time the "space" properly. Good job and thanks!

Planet Desumaton by SiegfriedCroes 2017-05-01T17:13:41Z

I loved this! It has great physics, incredible art, and it was (most importantly) fun. While I wasn't able to beat the boss (I'm not sure how anyone can honestly), and it was a bit slow for the boss to respawn (unless he was there the whole time). This game just felt like one awesome bossfight, which was great, because it didn't need anymore, but it would have been nice to be immediately thrown into the battle upon respawning. The art fit the game perfectly, and the expressions breathed life into the game. These were some of the best visuals for a LD game I've seen yet. I could have easily seen some expansion into SFX (if you could make hitting asteroids into things have a satisfying THUNK sound, that would be perfect), but I understand that that can be difficult to accomplish. Overall, great job, and thanks for making such a great experience!

Space Hummus by dietzribi 2017-05-09T23:56:34Z

****What I Liked:****

* I really loved the gravity mechanic. It may not have been realistic, but it was fun to use! * Jumping felt incredibly satisfying, especially paired with the SFX. * The music was really fitting and great, especially for a compo game. * Everything was explained really well. * Due to the gravity system, there were lots of different solutions for a single level. This added lots of depth! * There was a good amount of content here. It may have been on the shorter side, but that's just about perfect for a Ludum Dare game. * I loved the graphics! They were really clean and polished. * The game had some nice humor.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* Earlier I said that there were different solutions for each level, which I liked, but sometimes I could fall through almost the entire level without having to think much. If you could make the options a bit more restricted, that would be great for a post-compo version.

****Great job and thanks!****

Throw by somethinboutgames 2017-05-11T01:09:41Z

****What I Liked:****

* The starting menu was really cool! I was confused for a second, but I understood it pretty quickly, and it taught the main concept without even reaching the first level! * Lots of polish here! Good job with that. * The main throwing concept was simple, yet had enough depth to keep the player's interest. * Graphically, I liked the stick figure. It fit the simple mechanics of the game. * The music kind of reminded me of *Fancy Pants Man*, which coincidentally ALSO had a stick figure. The music fit the game in a similar sort of way, which was nice! * The level design was great! It was never quite too difficult, except the last level which *may have* been on the harder side.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* The game was a bit short, but it didn't matter that much. * Honestly, it didn't fit the theme well. The "small world" aspect kind of felt tacked on, and didn't affect anything at all.

****Great job and thanks!****

Myrddin by cogcomp 2017-05-07T20:03:51Z

Good job! It was a bit hard to tell what I was doing, but I liked the general idea and atmosphere. The music was great, and the graphics were good, if a bit hard to see. With a bit more explanation, and a bit clearer graphics, this could have been even better than it already was. I had fun playing this! Thanks!

World Tours by Mathiouza 2017-05-10T04:57:20Z

****What I Liked:****

* The music was really good! * I liked the simple type of gameplay that you created. It was short and easy, but I enjoyed it. * Despite being similar, the different obstacles were different enough to be enjoyable.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* Being able to build up momentum would be nice. Sometimes the collision would be raised above the ground, and it was scary to have to jump and then press right. Dying didn't always seem fair, and I think a more momentum based system could allow for jumping from a distance.

****Great job and thanks!****

A Small War by hadesfury 2017-05-10T00:38:27Z

****What I Liked:****

* The graphics were great! The voxels fit the game well, and I especially loved the design of the towers. * I appreciated the detail with the world. * The music was simple and the atmospheric instrumentation was fitting. * I liked the 4 lanes system, as well as the 3 tiers. It forced you to try and save your money, while surviving at the same time.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* I think that cooler colors are usually seen as the "good guys", while warmer colors are usually seen as the "bad guys". These were reversed here, which was confusing at first.

****Great job and thanks!****

o, the game by pta2002 2017-04-24T21:28:16Z

The game is simple and fun! It's addicting, and given the minimalist design of the gameplay, the graphics and audio both fit the game perfectly. I really enjoy the ability to hurt yourself by missing an enemy, as it forces you to form strategies a bit more, but the ability to jump makes it less frustrating. The only major complaint I have is that sometimes the "enemies" will spawn directly next to you, or even on top of you. These are almost impossible to avoid, which can feel irritating and unfair. If you could find a way to fix that before the jam ends, you really should. Overall, this was a great, simple game!

o, the game by pta2002 2017-04-25T03:44:42Z

@pta2002 YES! I devoted way too much time to this!

I got 90 points!

Little Remains by nilead 2017-05-01T17:35:41Z

You created such a compelling world and story, that it's hard not to love this game. The choice at the end hit me hard, and that's proof that the world that you created had enough thought and detail put into it, that it was evident throughout the entire experience. The eerie music and sound effects were great, and the art was too (I loved the painted aesthetic of the backgrounds).

I only have 2 complaints: Sometimes, the player felt a bit slow, which wasn't a major problem, but still noticeable. Also, the jump between different "areas" felt a bit too sudden, which messed with the controls a bit.

Overall, thank you for making such a great experience. I truly enjoyed the world that you created, which was brilliantly paired with great art and sound effects. Great job!

Until Tomorrow by MSiddeek 2017-05-08T21:48:25Z

This was sooo well done! It had great graphics, a compelling story, and eerie music to back it up. Lots of polish as well. Great job!

Sorry, I tried to run it, but it wouldn't work. I have a 64 bit computer Windows 10 computer, and tried running both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions in Windows 7 compatibility mode as administrator, but neither would work. I would hear a bunch of sounds, and then it would crash. I'm not sure why...

Also, you left a comment on my game "Timeless" saying it wouldn't run, but that should be fixed now (assuming it works for Linux at all, but I wouldn't know...).

Id's Journey by red-fan-games 2017-05-06T18:08:24Z

I want to start off with the graphics, which look great! At first, I wasn't a fan of the dim light, but then it was later used as a great mechanic! The audio was repetitive, unsettling, and generally just felt "off"... which was great! It fit the sort of mysterious mood of the game. The game was fun, and used the same mechanics that were there from the start and built on them. Sometimes, though, (in fact, most of the time), my left mouse button would get "stuck" (not the physical mouse, but in the game it got stuck), which confused me a bit. Finally, I think the teapots often felt unsafe, and if they had been a bit more stable, the game could have been even better. Overall, fantastic job.

Oh, also, it works now! I-if you hadn't figured that out already... by the fact that I left this comment.

Little Fortune Planet by Flaterectomy 2017-05-07T01:50:26Z

This was hilarious! I enjoyed seeing what every card did, and I feel like I broke the game... but I think I was supposed to break the game! Sometimes getting the same cards got repetitive, but at the same time, I got excited seeing similar cards again. Great job, and thanks!

Path of the Rabbit by managore 2017-04-27T04:48:26Z

The game was great! It properly created a simple, fun game with the theme in mind. The graphics were perfectly fitting, and easy to understand. Good job!

Plutiny by peringo 2017-05-09T03:52:40Z

****What I Liked:**** * Your interpretation of the theme is my favorite that I've seen by far. BY FAR. Dwarf Planet and Small World are practically synonyms. * The graphics are charming and nice! They fit the game well. * Great boss fight! * The little particle trails behind bullets was a nice touch. They really added something to the game. * I liked the music! Well done! * The shop system was a good addition to the game, and made harder levels feel more achievable. * The writing and humor was perfect! It took a witty approach to the injustice of what happened in 2006. The hero and villain were also described perfectly in the introduction. * All of the shop's rewards were all helpful and unique. * The constant bullets made you never stop thinking, and the money and asteroids added an extra factor to this. It brought out the best of the gameplay. * I REALLY APPRECIATE the ability to hold the mouse button to spam bullets.

****Minor Nitpicks:**** * It didn't always feel like the music should start/stop when it did. For instance, dying usually maintained the same theme, but restarted it. This was unnecessary. * The bomb upgrade wasn't explained well. I thought that I got bombs later in the game, and upgraded them in the shop. * The "i" in the font looked like an extra space. This made text confusing to read.

****Great job and thanks!****

Lab 493 by Remicy 2017-05-08T22:19:47Z

Nice job! I liked how a lot of the germs looked similar to one another.

Space Race by feips 2017-05-07T17:58:32Z

Good job! I liked the concept, and the different types of planets were a lot of fun. I also liked the gravity mechanic a lot! Sadly, as others have said, the game was a bit difficult, and I think it's partly because of its lack of control when you're in space. Walking around planets and jumping feels really good, because all of the physics were well done, but it was impossible to control your character while in space. Even having a tiny bit of control could greatly impact the game, in my opinion. Also, the music is fantastic, and your friend did a great job with it. The graphics were great too. I had a lot of fun with this, and thanks!

Binary Glitch by JOrbits 2017-05-08T04:50:38Z

Nice work! I liked how it almost felt like snake/reverse splatoon, because killing enemies created turf that you COULDN'T touch. The music and visuals were good too! Great job!

The World Repeats by GameQuester 2017-05-01T22:07:11Z

Fun game! While some mechanics were a bit confusing at first, the constant rushing to gather materials was fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. My only suggestion would be to make the game's mechanics a little bit more clear throughout the game. Great job, and thanks!

HexCity by MartensCedric 2017-05-08T01:13:47Z

I loved this! It took a simple idea for a puzzle game and made something great out of it. I think it could have been better if there was a level-based system, because all of the structures being introduced at once was a bit overwhelming. I really loved this concept though - and I really mean that. The idea of getting a score based on fitting everything together was a sort of puzzle jigsaw puzzle game, if that makes sense. Great work!

Polar Protector by AlexHoratio 2017-04-29T01:08:17Z

This was cool! It didn't have too much depth, and some of the mechanics were a bit confusing (I'm still not 100% sure how health works...), but the base mechanic (the elements) was fun! Some variety would have been nice, but overall, good job! I enjoyed this!

Yours by binaryferret 2017-05-01T21:35:56Z

I liked this! The atmosphere was nice, and while the game didn't have much depth, it was relaxing to watch people wander around the world. The gameplay got repetitive fast, but this wasn't a flaw in the game design, rather in the lack of time that you had. Given more time, I'm sure that you could add lots of depth to this. Also, if you could implement some sort of challenge, that would be fantastic. Great job!

Run Cola Run by valiap 2017-05-07T17:41:38Z

I'm honestly incredibly impressed with this, even with it being in the jam with 3 people. The music was fantastic, the visuals were great, and the puzzles were very fun! Keep up the great work!

Mr. Smith by unoion 2017-05-08T22:33:03Z

I enjoyed the mechanic that you used, and the graphics were great! The music got really repetitive... really fast. Hearing the same simple tune every 3 seconds gets a bit annoying, so even having just a simple atmospheric sound in the background could have made the game better. Also, I feel like restarting every time you die was a bit harsh. While this might all sound negative, I actually loved this game. It had an interesting and new take on the gravity mechanic which I've seen a whole lot this Ludum Dare, with lots of polish, well-done graphics, and was overall pretty fun. Great job!

Defense Against the Giants by mango-malarkey 2017-05-03T02:11:54Z

This was fun! I liked the SFX, and everything felt well thought out. I enjoyed all of the types of the towers, and the enemies (while limited) were good. The moment where I saw the really fast enemy (not wave 10, just the normal fast enemies) was a really surprising one. I felt that the final boss was WAY too hard, and it wasn't exactly clear when I lost, but the overall game was fun! Great job!

Time Loop by wellingtonbecker 2017-05-08T04:44:09Z

Loved this! It was a good platformer with an interesting concept, as well as great music and art. I beat the game, and had fun the whole way through. I agree with what @nbilyk said about resetting the level when you fall off the bottom. Making the game's reset as fast as possible makes it a whole lot less annoying when you die. Great work and thanks!

Flerth by parahunter 2017-05-07T02:32:23Z

Oh my gosh yes. I liked the simple mechanic, and everything was actually really polished and fun. The music was a good choice, even if you didn't make it yourself, and the graphics were perfect. Keep up the good work!

Godspeed Mankind by cvetk0 2017-05-06T18:25:00Z

Wow! This was much more fun than I was expecting. It was really fun trying to juggle all 3 types of places at once. I liked the graphics, and everything was pretty clear to me visually. If you could have had scrolling between places as more of a menu system, it could have worked better, and by that, I mean that by pressing "left", you would immediately pan to the place to the left, instead of having to wait to pan between them. It could have made everything feel faster and more fun. Great job! I had a lot of fun with this, and ended up with 776 points.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-07T18:17:23Z

I can't even begin to explain how much I loved this. The graphics were perfect, the music was great, and the game was really fun. All of the level design was very fitting, and I was charmed by everything. The level design allowed for you to tackle each situation from 2 sides, which was brilliant, and the music made everything feel smaller when you were using the drone. My only complaint (literally my only one) is that you couldn't turn the ship while you weren't moving. This was one of my favorite entries - if not my favorite entry yet. Amazing job and thanks!

It's a Small World by NedMakesGames 2017-05-19T04:26:30Z

****What I Liked:****

* I'm gonna start with the music, which I loved a lot! It was simple, yet didn't get annoying overtime. It added a lot to the game. * The combinations of controls were really fun to use and added a whole lot to the game. It was fun trying to find working combinations. It was a really fun mechanic! * I liked the physics of everything. They felt fun to use, and well done. * The simplicity of the game was largely to its benefit. It didn't get old very fast, and it had a nice system of making you want to do better each time. * The art was nice and simple. Great job! * The jumping felt good, and satisfying when you jumped higher and higher. * The difficulty felt really well done.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* The web version lagged a lot for me, so originally I was going to talk about unresponsive controls. I'd suggest adding something on this page saying to use the download for most people. It helps the game a lot, but it's not something I'd take away from the score, of course. * Sometimes it was unclear if there was an end to the game (in fact, I'm not even sure). * Come on, that player is Kirby. You can't deny that, haha. * The hearts were a bit misleading. You could have picked out something else besides the standard simple for health.

****Great job and thanks!****

Lil' Hunt by KureKureciCZ 2017-05-19T05:46:26Z

****What I Liked:****

* This was hilarious. That's all. * I enjoyed the two-player action that this produced. * The graphics were kind of charming and fun. I actually liked them a lot. * Those physics tho * I liked how the world slowly got more and more *udderly* (ha!) destroyed as time went on.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* It was sometimes a bit hard to tell where the UFO was. Having a shadow directly beneath everything could have helped it a lot.

****Great job and thanks!****

Also, I'm 15 as well! You already played my game, *Timeless*.

Bamboo Life by candlesan 2017-05-07T18:52:11Z

This is amazing! I was playing it assuming that it was a Jam entry, but when I realized that ONE person had made it in 48 hours, my mind was blown. The mechanics were spaced out evenly, and I was determined to play until the end. I could see this becoming a great mobile game. Amazing work!

Brawll by Bendev_Games 2017-05-01T22:49:06Z

This was a fun fighting game that, while simple, was still interesting. Although everything felt slow and slippery, while a faster combat system may have been to the game's advantage. I enjoyed the "durability" mechanic of the wall, which was an interesting innovation on fighting games, and the different gamemodes were a nice touch! Great job!

The Z Axis by Meaty McLazerPantz 2017-05-08T02:10:41Z

Good job! This was a fun puzzle game with an interesting mechanic!

Holy Shit! A Spider !!! by Aurelien 2017-05-08T00:59:30Z

Good job, especially for only starting game dev 3 weeks ago. The controls all felt tight and good, and I liked the game a lot!

Itsa Pixel! by damnscout 2017-05-10T04:50:55Z

****What I Liked:****

* That thing that you did with the pixel at the beginning and itch.io's background was really, *really* cool. It honestly looked like there was a dead pixel on my screen. * I liked the gameplay that forced you to keep thinking at all times. The stakes were always too high to take a break, and all of the colors gathering at one place added to that. * The "story" was pretty great, honestly. * Finishing "levels" was satisfying, especially due to the difficulty of the game. * The RGB color swapping system was a good addition to the game. * Using a map without borders was really helpful.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* The game may have been a *bit* too difficult. It wasn't too bad though.

****Great job and thanks!****

Snake 3D by Harry Jacobs 2017-04-27T05:12:09Z

This was incredibly novel. I didn't expect it to be very good at first, but as I went on, I realized that it felt really cool to play a voxel snake.

The game started to get stressful as time went on, and beating levels (I only fully completed through level 2, because of the difficulty) sometimes felt more like a feeling of "relief" than "success". This was mostly because of a few reasons; dying usually didn't feel like my fault, and that's for a few reasons. First of all, the controls sometimes felt slow. Between pressing "left", you might have to wait a fraction of a second before pressing "right". I'm not positive if this was really the case, but it felt like it. Also, obstacles often felt unavoidable when shifting from one side of the world to another. Sometimes you would only be 1 or 2 "blocks" away from an obstacle before you could actually see it.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I should comment about everything that I loved about the game. First of all, it was novel. It felt like it added something new and fresh to an old game, and was successful in doing so. Also, the graphics were nice, and fit the game well. Finally, I can't explain how much I love the holes going through the world. It added an extra sort of "dimension" that the game benefited from.

Overall, I think you did a great job, especially considered the time that you had. I would love to see you make a more refined post-compo version later. Thanks and good job!

Monolith by samlo 2017-05-02T02:24:04Z

I'd like to start off with the graphics: They're fantastic! I haven't seen any games that have that sort of visual style, and it ties your game together well. As far as the gameplay, it's fun, and I like the locking on mechanic, even if it was a bit confusing at first. My only complaint is that the camera could have been a bit higher, which bugged me for some reason. Fun game, and great job!

Island Guard by AnayK 2017-05-01T04:31:16Z

Fun game! It was addicting and satisfying to destroy ships, although sometimes I felt impossible to go fast enough to destroy every ship, and more variation in the game would have been nice, but overall, the simple yet fun gameplay made me thoroughly enjoy it. Great job!

Big Ship on a Small World by Samcam 2017-04-27T14:01:49Z

It was a fun adventure! I enjoyed seeing the dialogue, and it was fun being pretty mean to all of the planets. Sometimes the graphics would be 1/2 cut off (Uranus was completely gone), which was more of a technical bug than anything, and the text was a bit small, but all of the dialogue was really enjoyable. Good job!

Acquaintances by RodrigoNietiedt 2017-05-07T02:14:38Z

I really liked this! The voices were great, and the animation of everyone's face was great. Maybe a bit more variety in the character designs would have been nice, but it was great even so! The achievements were fun too, although a lot of them required more mouse-spamming than anything. Great job!

Crater Creator by navot 2017-05-06T17:03:31Z

This was fantastic! The base mechanic was great, I loved the humor, It was addicting to try and hit the asteroids into the planet, and while it was REALLY difficult, that just made each asteroid feel satisfying, making the game fun. I wasn't aware that going OVER the limit at the end reduced your score, and I'm not sure if it should have, so I only got 17%, despite fulfilling all of the requests. If the numbers that the president gave were minimums, I probably would have liked the game a bit more. Besides that complaint though, I loved everything about this!

Also, I feel the need to point out how much I loved the "4 years later" joke. That's all! Fantastic job and thanks!

Floppy McFloppyface by Mars 2017-05-01T17:56:27Z

The moment I saw the art for this game, I thought to myself... "oh no...". I was scared, but as I started to play, you made an incredible game, with lots of humor, and puzzle elements that were fun, even if pretty easy. The music fit the humor of the game well, and I made sure to get both endings. With everything that I enjoyed about this game this is all that I can do...

*flops arms enthusiastically*

Johi Farm by AVAVT 2017-05-03T02:26:24Z

I loved this! It passed a simple, but crucial task of being FUN, and this was honestly FUN (something that some other games don't always manage to accomplish, strangely enough). The introduction was fine in my opinion, and it was an interesting puzzle to solve at the beginning of the game, as well as teaching the basic mechanics, in fact, it's one of the better introductions I've seen. I enjoyed the juggling sort of gameplay, and the shovel reminded me of... well Shovel Knight (I think that's pretty obvious?). My only complaint was the final boss fight, where it was a bit confusing when you were hitting the bird (also, a health bar would have been nice). Overall, I loved this. Great job!

Globe Trot by Richard Michael Smith 2017-05-01T21:42:15Z

Good job! I loved the graphics and audio, which fit the sort of fast gameplay that you created. My only problem with the game, is that the camera made aiming hard, which would have been much easier, had you have used the mouse. If you could have locked the camera a bit more, it could have made shooting a lot better. Even so, the game was fun, and the fast-paced music brought everything together. Thanks for making this, and great job!

Small Planet by ZebraInFlames 2017-05-06T04:01:05Z

Good job! I liked the 1v1 battles versus the cpu, and it was addicting to try and beat the computer. I feel like the game should have been a bit easier (aiming was difficult, and using the mouse to aim your ship could have been more accurate), but the game was fun as is! Finally, I think landing on the Earth should maybe have your ship crash (the AI is really bad at shooting you while you're landed). I loved the game, but with a few tweaks and added depth, it could be fantastic. Great job!

SUN GOD by palemachine 2017-05-06T03:27:16Z

I loved this so much! The graphics were great (I loved the particle effects that your ship makes when it explodes), and the music was quick and fitting. The story was amusing, and the gameplay was fun! I beat it, and felt an immense sense of satisfaction at the end. The controls felt accurate, and I loved this!

I only have 1 major complaint: First of all, sometimes traveling felt slow, and if you didn't spawn near planets you had almost no hope. Perhaps having "shift" as a "dash" button, it would make everything faster and more fun.

Great job, and thanks! I loved this!

Gravity Trails by electr1ca 2017-05-07T01:21:36Z

Wow, I'm blown away by this. It took a simple concept and made a really fun game out of it. I loved the music, and the graphics were simple, yet charming. However... here's what I didn't like...

...

Now that we've gotten all of THAT over with, I'd just like to say that I loved this game! Great job!

ORBIT by esundberg 2017-04-24T21:53:24Z

I liked this! I started off by aimlessly wandering around, until I hit another planet or asteroid. At that moment, I understood the idea. You had to avoid slamming into things. So I restarted. The next time, I avoided other planets, until I realized the sun, and began orbiting (the gravitational pull of planets was brilliant, by the way). I noticed the bar in the top-left going up, and suddenly realized that you needed to keep warm by the sun, something I hadn't realized yet. In addition, "orbiting" was a good strategy for staying alive, and so I stayed in orbit, until I realized that it got easy. I thought it was going to get boring, until the sun exploded, and realized that you understood the same thing that I did. It was a really memorable moment, when I realized that my means of survival was gone. I had so many "a-ha!" moments throughout the game, and the game was designed very well. I don't know if this was intentional, but it worked. Finally, the music fit the game well. Great job with this game! I enjoyed it quite a bit!

Glop Plots by Carsen D. 2017-05-08T22:13:48Z

Good job! I liked how the limited space forced you to think about what you needed the most at a certain time.

Antnator by sachos345 2017-05-06T22:13:25Z

This game is surprisingly great! The physics feel perfect, and they're nicely blended with the sfx, with good music too! I like the challenge and honestly had a lot of fun with this. I got halfway through lv. 3, but was a bit too reckless with my ammo to actually beat it... *maybe* I should have conserved it a bit better. My only complaint is that the blending of high-resolution and low-resolution graphics looks strange, although i can't really blame you for having programmer graphics sometimes. I absolutely loved this, and thanks!

Shovel vs deforestation by chispaLBC 2017-05-10T05:05:29Z

****What I Liked:****

* I liked the graphics! * The shovel swinging animation was nice! * The SFX were good. * The tree-defending system was really cool!

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* The others mentioned the game randomly stopping, but I guess I got even less lucky than them. Mine stopped at level 5...

****Great job and thanks!****

Tiny Battle World by NickW 2017-05-02T02:32:08Z

I loved this! The battles were fun, the graphics were fitting, and the music was great (if a bit drowned out by the sfx). Sometimes the dashing felt a bit unresponsive (probably from a cooldown timer), and if it had been a bit faster, the game may have been even better than it already was. Great job!

Smallverse by Spiteful Fox 2017-05-06T04:18:31Z

Good job! I enjoyed all of the text, and the sort of decision making gameplay was very interesting! I could have enjoyed if the planets weren't randomized, but all intentionally created (create for instance 40 worlds, each with their own qualities, and have 20 planets to save and 20 to destroy). Overall, I really liked this! I hope to see you expand on this in the future!

MiniPolis by korvyashka 2017-05-19T05:01:53Z

****What I Liked:****

* This is one of my favorite games yet! Good job! * Nice job with the music. * I loved the resource management. At first it felt a bit shallow, but then I realized the depth that it had with capturing other cities and certain cities sharing resources. * The art was simple yet good. * The mechanics were pretty clearly shown at the start, and I had an excellent "aha!" moment when I realized that multiple cities could share one resource.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* After the 4th city, there was no blue resource available for me. I tried it a few times, but couldn't get past it...

****Great job and thanks!****

EDIT: I just realized that you didn't do the music. It didn't affect my opinion of the game much though.

Aether Mine by merrak 2017-05-08T01:34:22Z

Great graphics, music, and gameplay! I loved this game!

World of My Own by kantieno 2017-05-10T01:22:34Z

****What I Liked:****

* I'm gonna start off by saying that I loved this game! * The resource gathering aspect allowed for the game to constantly stay interesting. * The random formation of the map was great! I liked how each room was randomly designed, but having all of the rooms randomly linked together made each world interesting. * The enemy design was great! There weren't many unique designs, but I never saw myself getting bored of them. * I liked the player upgrades. I constantly had a goal to try and reach. * The music was really good! * The art fit the game well. * I liked the resource variety. There weren't too many to get confusing, but not too little! * The difficulty level was just about perfect. Great job not making it too hard, as some games do.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* For some reason, I expected upgrades to glow when I was able to buy them. That would have been nice, but not necessary. * Having resource counts in the top left corner, similar to money, would have been nice. * It would have been nice to have 5 completely different bosses, but not necessary. After all, you only had 48 hours.

****Amazing job and thanks!****

Destructo Island by morbidcamel101 2017-05-07T00:40:42Z

Fun game! I liked the graphics and had fun shooting down the drones. While the game didn't have much variety, I had a lot of fun getting through Wave 1, but because there was only 1 type of enemy, I didn't feel much of a reason to do another wave. I had quite a bit of fun with this! Good job!

eiland by rubna 2017-05-01T05:15:19Z

Great job! All of the graphics, audio, mood, and overall gameplay were fantastic. However, everything felt a bit slow, and sometimes even useless (for instance, the log). It was clear though, that the main focus was the island and everything on it, with the main "story" being a smaller feature, and you nailed it. Great job with this game, and I really enjoyed it!

LD39 — Running out of Power

Frankenstorm by TerraCottaFrog 2017-07-31T19:17:27Z

I'm not able to rate this since I didn't participate in LD39, but I wanted to come check out your game based off of how much I loved W.R.L.D. As I expected, Frankenstorm was fantastic! The gameplay was fun, I liked the music, it thematically made sense, and it looked great (specifically I love the clouds and all of the particles). All of the characters were charming as well, and the voices added a bit of character that I liked.

My only complaint has to do with the death system. I was a bit surprised that you didn't add a leaderboard for # of deaths, which would have been a solution to the infinite deaths. At some point, dying ended up becoming a strategy, which shouldn't have been the case. I'm not saying a leaderboard was necessary, but maybe it could also have taken power to respawn (after all, Dr. Frankenstein could have used some of the power to make more creations).

As far as the gameplay, I liked the balancing of trying to attack while still collecting clouds at the same time. You would have to stop shooting in order to capture clouds, which almost reminded me of Splatoon 2's Salmon Run, which had a similar mechanic, although explored in a completely different way. You also had to keep moving to make sure you weren't trapped in the middle of a storm of rain or lightning. Overall, it was a really fun experience. Great job!

HackOS by stevenjmiller 2017-07-31T20:25:01Z

This game is incredible! Everything about it is perfect for Ludum Dare - the graphics, story, gameplay, and theme. The music could have been a bit less repetitive, but honestly I probably wouldn't have noticed it without reading other comments. The graphics were pretty good, especially given that this is a Ludum Dare game, and the simplicity must have made it a lot easier for you to focus on gameplay. The puzzles were really strong, and the window moving mechanic reminded me of Managore's Windowframe, while putting on a new puzzle spin that made the game feel completely different. The story fit really well, and I absolutely loved the last line of the game. Finally, all of the mechanics are taught really well, which was a HUGE step up from Calor, which tried to throw all of the information at you at once. Amazing job!

Ministry of Synthesis by impbox 2017-07-31T19:47:34Z

This game looks incredible, sounds great, and is honestly really impressive for a compo game, but it needs instructions. I got to about the 4th level, but had to stop there. If you could add instructions for how each of the wave splitters works on itch.io or this page, the levels would become a whole lot easier to understand. I tried my best, but I couldn't figure them out.

As far as the platforming element that other people have talked about, it doesn't really bug me. It adds a bit more immersion, and isn't that annoying. The only things I would have changed are the jumping physics (just tweak them a bit), and on the second level, it's a bit confusing how to get to the oscilloscope below you, especially since the instructions mention how to connect to things below you, but it's referring to something else.

Overall great job, and I'll definitely return if you add further instruction.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

The More You Make by TerraCottaFrog 2017-12-04T03:19:48Z

This is admittedly one of my favorite takes on the theme that I've seen. It's pretty hilarious, and actually genius at the same time! While not every game here was great, you were able to experiment with a bunch of small concepts that allowed for a good variety. Some of my favorites were Orbit, Fire, Rock Sim, and even Virtuaman. While I didn't play any of the games for very long, I made sure to play every game at least once, and I was amazed by the polish that every game had. Some even had more depth than I expected. I'm actually pretty curious to see how it ranks overall, because while nothing is particularly impressive by itself, it's an incredible feat once put together. Amazing job!

Foundation by Chaseplays 2017-12-06T04:19:50Z

@toboggan To be honest, that's something that I've been needing to learn for a while. I'm using an Java engine that I built by myself, which means that anything that I need to implement needs to be coded by me. I'll get around to it at some point, though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Permanence by stevenjmiller 2017-12-06T01:12:40Z

This game is quite impressive! I played the whole way through, and was consistently challenged. Every puzzle was very well-designed, and the game never felt too hard. Visually, the game looks incredible, and the story, music, and even game mechanics all contribute to the incredible mood you've created. It all fits the theme perfectly. Initially, I was worried about the strange controls (specifically the turning), but later on they were justified, even becoming the main mechanic. Great job!

Imbalanced by Lawrence 2017-12-06T23:15:11Z

This is actually a really good idea! The game created a constant tension that always kept it interesting, and it fit the theme perfectly. The music and art were good too! I found the camera controls to be a bit strange, and it would have been useful to see what the different abilities do, but otherwise great job!

Lost Orbs by Masthiks 2017-12-24T22:17:48Z

Great job! I really loved how your game fit the theme. The puzzle elements were interesting, and each level felt well-designed. I loved the art-style, but obviously had the same problems with the walking sound as everyone else. Otherwise, the game's puzzle elements blended well with the art in a way that made a short but fun experience.

25 - The Golden Age by Ambeurk 2017-12-24T17:34:58Z

I'm honestly really impressed by this game. It had a nice element of strategy that came from picking the different options, and almost felt like it had a story. I was really determined to go as long as I could, just because of how much fun I had with it. My only two problems were that the options got too repetitive and that the grammar was a bit off. If you could have spent about an hour or two making more options, it would have massively improved the game. Either way, fantastic job!

Where ma Friends at?! by Sabuzri 2017-12-24T17:19:26Z

This is a pretty fun game! I loved the art style and music, and the game fit the theme incredibly well. The game was a perfect length for a Ludum Dare game, and was a pretty clever idea. The objective was clear, as well as the controls, which is fantastic. My only complaint was that a lot of the challenge in the game felt more frustrating than difficult. As you accumulate more "friends", you start to walk slower with more resistance. Usually, this exists less to challenge the player than to frustrate them. Despite this, I had a lot of fun with your game! Great job!

One Matter by toboggan 2017-12-04T05:39:37Z

I mostly agree with the other two comments so far - this game is incredibly polished, has a great concept, and looks amazing. The problems, however, lied in the controls. I found the system of momentum to be a bit annoying, and for some reason jumping only seemed to work half of the time. Fixing these problems would lead to a great game, and I encourage you to make a post-compo version for this reason.

On a positive note, the game looked amazing, especially for a compo game. The overall aesthetic looked very nice, and the game worked very smooth outside of controls. The player model was especially impressive. The difficulty stair-stepped nicely, and introduced concepts at a steady pace. I appreciated the text that showed up at the beginning of each level, and the "time-travelling" UI worked very well too. The level design was great, outside of platforming challenges, which sadly took a bit too long, and were especially difficult due to the controls.

In conclusion, fantastic job on your game! I hope to see a post-compo version that fixes the few problems I had, and otherwise had a great experience.

Find Gold! by Isogash 2017-12-04T06:41:06Z

Good job! I only got to 15 bags, and then the game crashed, but I enjoyed it the whole way through. I really liked how you could use your "dead body" as a tool to make things easier. It was a built in mechanic for less skilled players, and was pretty smart. Everything felt smooth, and one of my only complaints was that some parts felt outright "unfair". It was never too bad, though. Finally, I'm a bit confused about how it fits the theme, but great job nonetheless.

Find Gold! by Isogash 2017-12-04T16:31:18Z

@isogash It actually wasn't too unfair - it just felt like there were moments that were a bit more difficult than others. Also, I don't exactly remember which two bags I didn't get, but they were definitely in level 4. I would've gotten them all, but the game crashed. I forgot to take a picture of the crash report, so sorry that I can't help much there. Finally, I don't think you needed to cut level 4. Nothing was *too* hard to where you couldn't beat it, and getting all 17 bags was supposed to be a challenge as it was. Anyways, great job!

Dimmer by Chaseplays 2020-04-21T04:34:08Z

@goldenevolution: Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

@stevenjmiller: I'll definitely look into physics after hitting the ceiling if I make a post-jam version, thanks for the suggestion!

@suchista: Nice, 11 minutes is pretty good! I definitely regret making the first few levels (especially level 3) as hard as I did, but thanks for taking the time to complete it!

@kdgame: Thanks for taking the time to play the game! I made level 3 a bit too hard, and a lot of people I've talked to have gotten stuck there, so you're definitely not alone.

@manimal: 8 minutes is a great time! The unending dash is definitely something I'd have to nerf in a future version, but it has made speedrunning more interesting (especially when combined with sprint). Thanks for playing!

@tylerstraub: Thanks! I'll try to tweak the physics if I make a future version.

@ anonymous: Since you're anonymous I can't tag you, but I'm trying to respond to everyone, so thanks for playing! I'll tone down the battery timer a bit for the first couple of levels for sure in a post-jam version.

Dimmer by Chaseplays 2020-04-26T07:31:40Z

@zabaman Thanks for playing! The minimal instructions for dashing and sprinting were put it in about half an hour before submission, so I should have put a lot more focus in making things clear, especially the battery's finish.

@purrsum I'm glad you liked the music, thanks! Also, six minutes is a really fast time, so great job!

@keanutah Yeah, the battery was definitely confusing in hindsight, thanks for letting me know!

@meelo Hmm... I'm not sure why the game would have froze, but thanks for playing until level 8 (that's the last level, so you basically finished!) I think when developing the game, I focused too much on the speedrunning portion of it, and made the standard walking too slow and rigid, so I agree that some momentum and acceleration could helped in normal gameplay.

@rich I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks!

@thewinrawr Thanks, I definitely spent a lot of time on the music so I'm happy to hear it turned out well!

@alex457 Thank you, glad to hear you liked it!

@zimny11 Thanks, I'm happy to hear you liked the art and music!

@frogman 6 minutes is a great time, thanks for playing!

@yonman Thank you!

@justcamh I think my biggest regret was leaving WASD/shift/ctrl as controls in the game, since arrow keys/z/x are way easier, so I'm glad to hear you figured that out halfway through! Thanks for playing!

@morandigame Wow, I'm glad to hear you liked it! In a post-jam version I'll definitely add space for jump as an option, thanks for the suggestion!

@exewin Thanks, I'm glad to hear you liked the music! Also, 5 minutes is an amazing time!

@weirdybeardyman Thank you, I'm happy to hear you liked the progressive music and dimming mechanic! I'll make sure to check out your game soon!

@kaisean-games That's a good score, thanks for playing! If I make a post-jam version, I'll definitely try to balance out the level difficulty! I hadn't thought about removing the battery percentage, but you actually make a great point about creating pressure. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Dimmer by Chaseplays 2020-05-12T19:05:30Z

@lorwon Thanks for playing! I definitely should have spent more time balancing how quickly the screen dims, so thanks for letting me know!

@boxedmeatrevolution Congrats on making it to the end, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@niterich It definitely seems like the first couple of levels are too hard, thanks for letting me know. If I make a post-jam version, I'll definitely tweak the physics and try and do make it possible to clear several obstacles at once -- it definitely seems like that would be more fun! Thanks for playing!

@nihushu Thank you, I'm happy to hear you liked it!

@tgiant I definitely agree that the first couple of levels are too hard, thanks for playing!

@bulent-altinay Thanks, I'm glad you liked the music!

@jupiter-hadley Thanks for doing this every competition, it's always a lot of fun to see people play my game!

@jojo-the-clown I'm happy to hear you liked the music, thanks for playing!

Matchstick Elegy by stevenjmiller 2020-04-20T11:15:52Z

I've tried making a couple of puzzle games before, and it never ceases to amaze me how clever and difficult you're able to make your games! When I started, I assumed the puzzles would be simple and fast, but after a few levels, the game stayed simple, but got incredibly difficult. A couple of puzzles in particular took over half an hour each. I don't mean this as a criticism at all -- the fact that you're able to make your games so difficult is honestly super impressive!

I think it's your level design that impresses me the most. The concept that you came up with for your game was really clever and left a lot of room for level design, but each level felt unique in its solution in a way that I couldn't have expected for how simple each level ended up being. I'm not sure how you do it, but it's definitely something you've figured out you're really really good at.

In terms of graphics and audio, they both fit the mood pretty well. The room where the story takes place in particular looks great, and while the audio isn't particularly noteworthy, it did fit the game well. The story also gave the game a sort of cohesion that it would have otherwise lacked, and added a LOT to the game's mood. While I had a hard time focusing on the story itself (that was mostly just me being distracted), the themes it brought up were really interesting and added a lot to the game and its atmosphere.

If I had one criticism, it's just that the difficulty curve feels a bit steep for a Ludum Dare game. That might be a bit of personal bias though, since I have a personal rule to fully complete each game before rating (although we'll see how that goes this time down the road). It took me hours to beat it (granted, for much of that time I was busy/distracted with other things). In that sense, the difficulty felt more matched-up to a full release rather than Ludum Dare game, which is typically pretty short. So really, that's more of a criticism of practicality more than game design.

Overall, it seems you've pretty much mastered this genre, and while I'm excited to see what other puzzle games you make, I'm really curious to see how you'd use your game and level design abilities in other sorts of genres! I'll be following to see what else you end up doing in the future. Great work, and take care!

BÃ…L by Ava Skoog 2020-05-12T18:26:44Z

This is really nice! I hadn't thought of such a simple, relaxing take on the theme, but the way you executed it was perfect! Wonderful job!

Entropia by Kaisean Games 2020-05-12T16:48:28Z

Great job, I had a lot of fun with this! The graphics were nice, and the mechanics were interesting to play with! It felt a little bit buggy or irresponsive at times, but other than that I liked it a lot!

Don't Touch the Button by Yngvarr 2020-04-21T18:54:55Z

This was really funny! The game was engaging and I liked how it kept introducing new problems as you went on. The art was great too! I enjoyed this a lot, nice work!

Light in darkness by tgiant 2020-05-12T18:06:59Z

Fun game! I liked racing around to get stuff from chests, and everything was polished and well-made! It took me 2 tries, but I finished the game. Great work!

ADRENA-LINE by managore 2020-04-20T22:08:03Z

I got to 31! Every game you make is so polished and fun, and even with only 15 hours you made one of the most well-packaged games that I've seen so far. The SFX and graphics in particular work really well together, and make the game much more engaging. It doesn't exactly fit the theme (maybe keep the streak alive?) but despite that, what you made is still really impressive! I especially liked that difficulty was based on the time it took to complete the previous levels, encouraging going even more quickly. Great work, this is really fun!

Potater Toss by BoxedMeatRevolution 2020-05-12T17:04:53Z

This was super fun! I liked the gameplay a lot and it was really polished and a joy to play all the way through. The arm physics in particular were really interesting to play with! I ended up getting 3 out of the 4 toppings, and had a blast doing it! My only complaint is that sometimes it felt like the potato would hit a topping but then not connect--I'm pretty sure I would have gotten all 4 if that wasn't the case. Overall, great work! This is a great game!

Untitled Phoenix Game by CptFinn 2020-04-21T03:09:43Z

This is honestly such a good game. You 3 crafted such an amazing atmosphere and it came through perfectly! The gameplay itself was simple, but effective, and the whole package was just so well put together! I can't really overstate how much I liked it!

There were a couple of minor things that I noticed, but none of these took much from the overall experience: - I don't quite understand why jump and fly are different buttons. It seems like pressing space twice would have worked just as well, but maybe there's something I'm missing. - Because of the game's window, there were quite a few times where I would try to throw the egg, but my mouse would land outside the window, and when I released the right-click button it would open the standard browser drop-down. If that doesn't make sense, it's not a big deal, but I think a full-screen option would help a lot if that's possible!

Once again, amazing job! This has been one of the best and most polished games I've played so far!

Blackbird by Rongo Matane 2020-04-21T23:07:39Z

This is sooo good!!! Everything feels smooth and plays well, and it all looks absolutely gorgeous! The atmosphere this creates is so relaxing despite the rush to collect bugs and worms, and I loved playing this game. Amazing work!

A Meatball by Slowpoke 2020-04-20T20:08:00Z

Your game is simple, but I actually really enjoyed it! The controls, once I got the hang of them, were fun to use, and the level design was clear and incremental. The graphics in particular were really sleek in way that can be pretty difficult to achieve in Ludum Dare games! While the game sort of connected to the theme, it definitely could have been a bit more clear, but other than that you made a complete, polished package that I had a lot of fun playing. Great job!

Keep The Power Plant Alive by rich 2020-04-21T19:16:03Z

This was definitely a neat game! The ideas were really cool and I liked hooking up the power lines to the generators to get resources! I found that the beginning of the game forced you to hook up power lines to 3 generators of different types too quickly, but other than that this was a lot of fun. Great work!

Joe Biden Campaign Simulator by Kevin Sun 2020-04-21T01:30:53Z

Haha, this was fun! Nice work!

juxta.LINE by fiaKaiera 2020-04-20T22:55:56Z

This is so good!!! Everything is so well-presented and the concept was super unique and well-executed! This is easily one of the best games I've played yet, and I'll be sure to follow you and keep up with whatever else you make. Incredible work!

Doomsday Feelings by biemorth 2020-04-21T23:50:54Z

This was fantastic! The graphics are amazing, and the game is super well presented. I never really had a reason to use the options between levels and worry about energy usage, but even without those, you did an amazing job, and I had a lot of fun!

Heartbreaking by mAnimal 2020-04-21T07:39:36Z

This was fun, and I really liked the core mechanic! I was confused about how to do it at first, but once I realized (and said out loud) "it's like jump rope!" it got really fun! Granted, it was a hard game (every time you said "heartbreaking!" I got progressively madder, which the people on the Discord call I'm on will tell you), but I still really enjoyed the core mechanics and level design. Overall, fantastic job!

Heartbreaking by mAnimal 2020-04-23T07:19:51Z

okay this might take a bit of explaining...

when i was playing your game, i was on a discord call, and i got super angry every time i died and the "heartbreaking" effect played, and it quickly became a bit of a meme. i went into the source code to find the sound effect and then posted it on the discord to give them context.

then... today i was bored. so i made a quick song out of your two death sound effects to play with rythm on discord. so, uh, yeah.

here it is: https://youtu.be/LkqKrYTU4Dg

CORRUPT TUNDRA by keanutah 2020-04-26T07:58:49Z

This was a really fun arcade-style game that I enjoyed a lot! I would have liked it if the difficulty ramped up a bit faster (at some point it sort of felt like I was waiting for stuff to happen), but it was still a really fun and polished! Great job!

Vaccinator by niterich 2020-05-12T09:58:27Z

This was fun! The flying controls felt great, and I really liked your take on the theme! The audio, specifically the music, was fantastic as well. Great job!

Don't Crack by Weirdybeardyman 2020-05-12T18:53:26Z

I just played this with my brother a few times and had a great time! The pillow mechanics felt incredibly abusable... I was able to literally carry him to the end without consequence. But somehow it still felt polished and really well-made. I especially liked the music and the graphics! Great job!

Grove Guardian by VivianMochi 2020-04-21T09:57:59Z

I'm just gonna say it: this is one of the best Ludum Dare entries I've ever played. You integrated the gorgeous visuals, beautiful music, and incredibly fun gameplay so masterfully that I couldn't help but give you 5 stars in every category, which I'm not even sure I've done before. And honestly, if you had stayed opted in to humor, I would have given you 5 stars for "I am root" alone.

Every element of this game was so well-crafted. The gameplay in the day and night balanced out perfectly (and honestly, finding out that the night phase was a tower-defense was an awesome moment). A lot of games like this end up being too ambitious with all of the mechanics and the presentation is subpar, but this ended up being one of the best-looking and best-sounding games I've played too.

A lot of people are probably going to leave comments saying they didn't understand too much but it seemed nice, but learning to play this game was absolutely delightful. It seemed overwhelming at first but once I got it, I was constantly looking for shrines to learn from and having a wonderful time. I can't overstate how good this game is, and I can't believe I got so lucky to have it recommended to me.

If you make a post-jam version, here's just a couple thoughts:

- I'd suggest either making the game harder and giving the player more of a role at night, or letting time skipping happen at night as well. Especially later in the game, night felt more like a time to wait for resources than anything else. - Add a little bit of variation to the trees? They look beautiful, but even a slightly different color could have helped a bit (my friend suggested putting lights on the mother tree?).

Sorry for gushing on for so long, but I'll be following your work closely from now on. Congratulations on making such an amazing game!

EDIT: I played it again and finished in 16 days

Keepin' It Charged by kubs 2020-05-12T17:46:50Z

I loved this game!!! The way you integrated the velocity battery mechanic was super interesting, and the platforming felt fast-paced with perfect physics! The graphics added a lot to the feel of the game, and although you didn't make the music yourself, it made the game even better! Congrats on making such a great game!

Space Mercenary by Lorwon 2020-05-12T17:32:43Z

This was a lot of fun! It was a hard game for sure, and I managed to get the shield, but that's all I could do. It definitely seems like the money you earn should increase over time, since buying surgery feels almost impossible with the slow income that's in the game right now, but otherwise I had a good time. Great work!

Friendly Sprite by Suchista 2020-04-21T05:02:53Z

This was really fun! Like the others said, it was really difficult, but it was wasn't all that long either, which sort of balanced it out. The music and graphics also created a fitting mood, and I thought the movement physics felt really good! Overall, great work!

Vine and Void by JUSTCAMH 2020-05-12T07:29:55Z

Wow, that was way harder than I thought it would be! Still, you made a pretty incredible game! I loved that it was procedurally generated, and it all felt polished and fun. The controls were intuitive, and the music was great! It felt a bit buggy sometimes (my first playthrough I'm not sure if the game was beatable), but I might just have been bad at the game. No matter what, you put out an amazing game that I had a lot of fun playing. Great work!

Vine and Void by JUSTCAMH 2020-05-12T19:37:25Z

@justcamh Your world generation post is really neat! I guess I was just missing something the one time the game didn't seem beatable. And yeah, I've been trying to play the games of everyone who left a comment on mine, but I left most of them for the last day, so I've been cramming as much as I can since last night.

If you made a bigger version of this game with randomly generated tasks for each run, I would love to come back and try it again! There's a lot of potential here in your game, which is already fantastic as it is!

Legacy by tylerstraub 2020-04-21T08:05:47Z

I got through a few levels and really liked the puzzle concept you created! With some polish and expansion on the concept you could have a really fun game like Sudoku, Minesweeper, Solitaire, etc. to open and play a few levels of. Sadly, the framerate was abysmally low for me, and I wasn't able to get to the end since after about 3 levels the game crashed, but let me know if you fix up the resolution/fps and I'd love come back and finish the rest of it!

Legacy by tylerstraub 2020-04-21T18:33:29Z

Okay, I've played through the whole game now, and I liked it a lot! I originally thought you only had to avoid having 3 punched holes in a row, so I got stuck for a while before realizing that you also had to avoid 3 unpunched holes, but other than that everything was intuitive and fun!

In terms of optimization, I didn't realize that there were 2 different versions (windowed and fullscreen), and it looks like the fullscreen version was what was giving me trouble (both before and after it was optimized). My computer's pretty good, so I don't think it was a problem with lower-end computers, but I have two monitors so that might have been a problem. Otherwise, the windowed version worked perfectly, so I was able to finish without any problems! Thanks for looking into it!

Keep the marriage 'alive' by MarcoMing 2020-04-20T18:49:42Z

This was a lot of fun! I especially liked the artwork, and each minigame was unique and interesting to play! It was a bit glitchy (sometimes I think I would start a game too early and then graphics would show up that weren't relevant), but that usually only showed up after a while of playing. I enjoyed this a lot, great work!

MMO Dungeon Healer: Quest of Valor by exewin 2020-05-12T09:47:25Z

This was really well made! Everything was polished, the graphics were nice, the audio was great, each round had a lot of variety, and not to mention that the gameplay itself was great!

But...

I have a rule to play through every game completely. This one took me well over an hour, maybe more. I made it to the 14th or 15th level SEVERAL times, and then lost. I had a lot of fun! But beating that final level took SO much time. At the same, I did enjoy really getting to know how every bit of the mechanics work -- I always enjoy games that actively force you to understand what's happening, rather than just pushing through and hoping for the best. But after those first few rounds, this game gets CRAZY difficult, and the mage dying every 2 seconds didn't help either.

Overall, fantastic job! This was an awesome game and I had fun! Just next time... maybe make it a little easier? ;)

MMO Dungeon Healer: Quest of Valor by exewin 2020-05-13T03:46:21Z

@exewin Actually, I thought the ending was pretty funny! Most LD games don't have much at the end, so I was pleasantly surprised. Congrats on getting in the top 100 for theme! That's pretty impressive, especially with so many entrants this time!

LD46-Keep it alive by GHubert 2020-05-12T18:32:35Z

For a first jam game, this was neat! It could use some "bug"-fixing (haha, hilarious), but I liked the idea, and the random level generation in particular was neat! Great job!

Dave's Birthday Party by GoldenEvolution 2020-04-20T18:16:42Z

That was a pretty fun game! I liked the recoil concept a lot and the balance between shooting birds/gifts and moving out of the way was really interesting to work with. I agree with other suggestions about moving the camera/increasing the recoil, but overall well done!

Robot's Best Friend by Frogravity 2020-05-12T07:31:21Z

This was so cool! I didn't get it at first, but once I realized you could press e to give the rat oxygen, with the catch that it could escape, the whole game got super interesting. The story behind it was simple but gave the game a purpose which I liked a lot, and the voices made the game a lot of fun! It could use a bit more polish, but the concept is really interesting, and I enjoyed this a lot! Great work!

The Bob and the Rob by Yonman 2020-05-12T07:30:26Z

Great work! I had a lot of fun playing this game, and the race to go collect items was pretty enjoyable. It was also pretty funny, especially the story at the beginning and the sound effects throughout. The camera and controls could use some work, but otherwise I liked this a lot!

YoYo - A Wacky Weapon Arena by PurrSum 2020-04-21T17:53:57Z

This is so good!!! Everything felt so smooth and it was just a really fun game to play. The graphics and music were also fantastic, and the controls were intuitive. The yoyo mechanic was also a lot of fun, and especially on my 2nd time (I got to 13 the first time, but had to play a 2nd time to finish), it was fun to try and rack up a lot of upgrades early on before getting beat up in the 2nd half of the game. Amazing work!

Protect the Egg by njm_games 2020-04-20T19:38:48Z

This was really cool! I can tell you put a lot of effort into the dual-shooting controls, and it paid off -- they're really fun to use! With a faster pace, this would make an awesome bullet-hell, especially if you added some enemies that you had to shoot in two places simultaneously. Great work! This was really unique!

Keep Vlad Alive by zimny11 2020-04-27T02:53:53Z

This was a lot of fun! It was an slow and addictive game, but a lot of pressure was added by the watering system, which I liked a lot! I couldn't tell if I was playing V1.0 or V1.1 (I don't think that balancing changes are allowed after the Compo ends), but I still enjoyed my time, and don't think balancing would have affected my ratings all that much. Overall, great job!

Keep a Plant by KDgame 2020-04-21T06:58:47Z

This was a really simple but fun game! The effect that happens when you stop meteors is so incredibly satisfying (the audio, screen shake, particles, etc.), and it made the game really addicting to play! The Earth blocking meteors and rotating was also a really cool and interesting concept. I got to around 50 seconds on my best run. Great work!

Grow! by alex457 2020-04-26T22:35:16Z

This was so fun!!! I was a bit confused at first, but once I got the hang of it, the gameplay got super fun and even addicting! I played through it a few times and ended up finishing in 274 days on my last run. The music was pretty good too! Overall, great job, this was really fun!

Keep Him Alive by Bulent Altinay 2020-05-12T17:53:39Z

This was a short but fun game! It was polished with simple but engaging mechanics, and I enjoyed my time with it! My only complaint is that turning sometimes didn't feel responsive, which made some of the levels more difficult than they needed to be. Overall, great job!

This was fun! The physics were really interesting to play with, and protecting the heart was a fun challenge. The game is definitely incredibly difficult, but as you said, I'm sure some practice would help that out a lot! Great work!

Square Loves Circle! by meelo 2020-04-22T04:12:19Z

This was a neat little game! I enjoyed the central mechanic of keeping the circle alive, and your level design was really great! The music added to the atmosphere too, and I enjoyed the text between each level. Great work!

runrunrunrun by ZabaMan 2020-05-12T18:54:12Z

Neat multiplayer game! I played it with my brother and had fun trying to dodge attacks. Great job!

One Alive At A Time by MorandiGame 2020-05-12T08:01:50Z

This was a really intriguing concept, and I can't overstate that enough! The idea of taking control of different objects to try to get several to the end was really interesting. For the first level it worked pretty well, but by the time of the second level, it didn't really feel like the camera and controls were up to the task of executing the ambitious game you set out to make. The visuals were great, though, and I had a lot of fun with what I played! And honestly, if this was polished up quite a bit, it would make a pretty fantastic game that I would love to come back and try again.

On a side note, I have a personal rule to finish every game I play, but I'm not sure if I did it for this one. I got 2 items to the end of level 2 (which it said on the screen), but then it just restarted the level. So out of curiosity, how many levels are there? And honestly, if there are more, might I ask if you're able to beat the game? It's definitely a lot of fun, but I have a hard time imagining anyone beating any level any harder than level 2.

Go Home! by acjh13 2020-05-12T18:17:23Z

This was really good! The gameplay was fun, and I enjoyed my time with it!

Lightlife by Merpui 2020-05-12T19:31:57Z

Great game! I liked the platforming physics, and the visuals were great too! And by the way, that easter egg WAS worth it :) Overall, this was a lot of fun, nice work!

The Offer by TheWinrawr 2020-04-26T21:51:44Z

Whoa, this was a creepy game! In a lot of games, I don't care much about the text you get when you interact with things on the ground, but everything in this game was such a perfect mix of scary and funny that I was always curious to see what it said. The three-legged spider in particular was such a funny moment! I think some music (or probably just ambient sounds) could have helped a LOT in creating a mood, but even without that, you made an incredible atmosphere that made the game really intriguing from beginning to end. Great job!

The Cyclist Helper by Gediminas Gurskis 2020-04-20T11:30:12Z

This is a neat little game! It would be interesting to see a sort of Mario Maker-esque game with the same idea behind it. The concept is solid and I had fun playing it. Good work!

Clocks & Cards by TerraCottaFrog 2022-10-03T19:34:18Z

I agree with the other comments, it's fun and a cool concept and I like what you did with it, the only major problem I had is that (especially in the earlier rounds) there's a lot of dead time. Being able to skip to the next interval probably would have made the game feel a lot faster, but other than that great job!

Loop Arena by Chaseplays 2022-10-03T06:32:52Z

@acdimalev Completely forgot that exe files are Windows only, thanks for the reminder

Loop Arena by Chaseplays 2022-10-03T07:11:49Z

@acdimalev @rob6566 Did the highscore load if you guys open the game again? I know it works on Windows but I can't test any other systems

Loop Arena by Chaseplays 2022-10-03T09:19:55Z

@acdimalev Whoa... thank you so much. I really wish I could give you more karma for feedback for literally debugging my code. I checked and you're completely right, I seems like I broke it in the last few minutes when I was trying to make it work for Mac/Linux. It should be working now, at least it is for Windows. Thanks so much again for the help!

Particle Clash by Steffo 2022-10-20T07:56:24Z

Played it with a friend for a bit and we had fun! I do think a definitive ending earlier on would have been good though to actually decide a winner. Pretty interesting puzzle game though, great job!

Sprawl: A cyberpunk interactive graphic novel by m11 2022-10-03T18:59:05Z

Really fascinating experiment. I was really surprised by how consistent and polished it all felt for being AI generated. Great execution all around!

Legend of the Broken Wand by thx4nothing 2022-10-03T19:07:05Z

Nice job, the spell switching was well implemented and I liked how different the 3 spells felt. I do think the quality of life improvements @somnium mentioned would be good, but even without those I still had a lot of fun!

Symphony of Legend by VivianMochi 2022-10-03T06:45:51Z

Really polished and fun! As a rhythm game it was definitely confusing having enemies with different delays but I do want to revisit this to see if I can get that down. Either way awesome job!

The Landfill by Naemis 2022-10-03T05:39:20Z

2435 on my second try!

Genuinely very fun. At first I thought the lack of risk/reward in the game design would be a problem but for a game as short as this it's just really fun to blow the stuff up. Risk/reward still might improve the game but still very fun regardless, great job!

It's a Sliding Puzzle by acdimalev 2022-10-03T06:02:18Z

Really cool that you made a GB game but it seems a little glitchy. Pieces kept moving from place to place on their own and then snapping back, it seemed like they were rotating on their own too. Is this the 10 second mechanic or just a bug? I'll hold off on rating until I actually finish the puzzle, just wanted to check to make sure I understand the game.

It's a Sliding Puzzle by acdimalev 2022-10-03T06:31:18Z

@acdimalev Thanks for the reply, took some time but I finished the puzzle! Awesome job! The swap mechanic definitely makes you think and makes a good mix of frustrating and satisfying that I love in puzzle games

Ev'ry's 10 Second Adventure! by José Bonilla 2022-10-03T09:53:46Z

Awesome game! I loved the way you used the 10 second mechanic and the variety was just the right amount for a compo game. Some more consistency with cannonballs/doors would have been nice to keep it the same each run, and I sometimes got frustrated when finishing the level cleared my code, but those are just nitpicks. Great job overall!

FocuSlash by ThatANoNoWord 2022-10-03T05:54:24Z

Really fun and satisfying to play! I do think it could really really benefit from checkpoints. I played quite a few times and eventually gave up when I died right after picking a direction. Especially for a game that's mostly based around the same mechanics and enemies with the additional 10 second delay, it gets pretty tiring replaying through the early levels over and over. If you can add that, I'd definitely replay to the end since, again, the core controls and mechanics feel very very smooth and satisfying and I'd love to play the whole game. I'll make sure to check back just in case you make any changes but awesome job either way!

Jump in the line by resacaGames 2022-10-03T21:45:05Z

I really liked the feel of the game and it controlled really well. I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to do other than keep moving forward, and I wasn't super clear on how it fit the theme, but jumping and rolling fast was very very fun. Awesome job!

10s To Decide by Rob6566 2022-10-04T08:53:08Z

For a first jam this is awesome, I love how you used the 10 second theme with the tower defense genre. You added a lot of mechanics and it was a lot of fun, great job!

Tombagotchi by TerraCottaFrog 2018-04-23T09:30:21Z

I've gotta say, I'm really happy that this game exists. The concept alone had me really excited to play it.

The game was pretty fun, and I enjoyed seeing the different species. Online worked perfectly as well, and I enjoyed my time. I also really liked the way that the "arena" looked, and the particles helped a lot. As for the minigames, I liked the speed and dexterity minigames, although strength felt somewhat boring. I would have preferred a more active option for while the minigames were loading, possibly giving each game its own timer, but otherwise I had a lot of fun. Great job!

The Matter at Hand by Chaseplays 2018-04-23T18:16:02Z

@Aaron-Nemoyten Wow, thank you so much! I 100% agree with you on sound effects, and actually tried to implement them during the jam, but couldn't get them to sound very good. In the future, I'll try and improve my ability in that area so that I won't make that mistake again. Also, with the zoomed out version of cards, I agree that that would be an improvement, but might have difficulty implementing it given that I'm using pixel art. Thanks for the kind words!

@Valden Thanks!

@Danby Wow, thank you!

@frostdragonliz Hmm... maybe I'll make an expanded version. Thanks!

@sndr Thanks! I'm not exactly sure what's causing that problem... it seems to work fine on my computer. I'll look into it more if more people mention it.

The Matter at Hand by Chaseplays 2018-04-24T04:31:55Z

@hunz Sorry, I don't know why that's happening. I've had a lot of problems using sound in Java in the past.

@GettingRekt Thank you! I've added a number of levels to the description of this page to possibly help with people finishing the entire game. It's actually not too long, and can be beaten in a pretty short time.

@sophie Yeah, I'm not really sure how I could have fixed the problem of not being able to see your entire hand. Especially given the fact that I used pixel art, it's not exactly easy for me to shrink the cards any further. Also, I did, very intentionally, try and "trap" the players in a false solution, but hoped that it would make the puzzle more satisfying to complete in the end. Thanks for the feedback!

@aarre-entertainment Wow, you actually think it's top 5 material? I'm gonna try and keep my hopes down, but I'm glad you liked it!

@sky Thank you! I might try and create a more complete version of the game at some point, as I think there's a lot of room to expand. If I do that, I'll try and add sound effects too.

The Matter at Hand by Chaseplays 2018-04-25T00:40:50Z

@stevenjmiller Thank you so much! I will probably expand on this in the future, and I think it has a decent amount of potential, but I do agree that a full version of this wouldn't scale very well. If I were to focus on creating a full version of any game, Timeless probably has the most potential, but I'd like to create a finished version of this one with SFX, more levels, a real ending, etc. beforehand. Thanks once again!

@aarre-entertainment Yeah, that makes a lot more sense. Top 5 is definitely a stretch, but I still think I'll do decently. Thanks for clarifying!

@croewens Thank you!

The Matter at Hand by Chaseplays 2018-04-28T20:21:04Z

@Jupiter_Hadley Thanks for playing my game!

@Yngvarr I'm glad you liked my game! In the description, I do credit a pre-created color palette, but otherwise all the graphics are mine. Thanks! Also, it's great to hear that this works on Linux as well, so thanks for letting me know!

@undefinist Thanks! I do agree that having direction-specific cards would have made puzzles more interesting, and actually considered the idea myself when doing the jam, but thought that for a game this small, it made more sense to make the cards more open-ended. In the end, I'm not sure what choice was best, but if I ever expand on this game, I'll definitely consider the idea further.

@PackNSlash Wow, thank you! I'm glad you liked my game so much!

@Arqcenick Thank you so much!

@amras0000 First of all, I'm glad you liked the game! I might put the song on Soundcloud, although it was actually sort of just a last-minute improvisation, so it feels a bit strange to upload it in that way.

I do agree with you about the counting feature, and I've seen that criticism several times in the comments. Now, you suggested that I just put a number to the side of each "ability", but also that it might defeat the theme. I don't think this is the case, though. In my opinion, the best option would be to "stack" cards of the same type, and put a number above each stack. If I make a new version of this game, I'll definitely do something along those lines.

As you mentioned, though, I did lay out the cards to trick the player several times, but I think it's a necessary sacrifice. Either that, or I need to make the cards smaller, or maybe even introduce a "stack" option? Something like that. Anyways, thanks for the criticism, it definitely helps a lot!

@nick-rafalski Thanks! I'm glad you liked my game. If you want to see my response to your "count number on each card", I talk about it above when replying to amras0000.

@joqlepecheur Thanks! Personally, I think that the tutorial levels were pretty necessary to make sure everyone understood every concept, and also none of them should have taken much time to figure out, but thanks for the comment!

Universe Savior Ultra X by impiaaa 2018-05-06T07:59:42Z

Good job! There isn't too much content, but what content exists is pretty well polished. I liked the concept as well, and would be interested to see what you could do to take this further! I also loved the transition scenes, and found the jumping physics and space combat to be fluid and fun. Nice work!

Core Dunk by stevenjmiller 2018-04-23T22:44:16Z

YES YES YES!!!

I FINISHED ALL 8 LEVELS!!!

Alright, now on to my real comment.

You made an great game, here. It was pretty complicated, and often times awfully confusing, but still had lots of great moments, followed by a rush of satisfaction after every level.

The game itself was almost flawless. The formatting of everything made sense, at least after you understood it, and a lot of the game design was interesting; specifically the several "tests" of every level. The programming aspect of it was perfect. All of the lines made sense, and were well documented. The puzzles were also fantastic, and the idea of having several examples was brilliant. Finishing each puzzle was incredibly satisfying, and everything worked fast. My only criticism in the core gameplay was that you were forced to try every test at once, rather than just trying one at a time. Obviously the "final solution" of each level necessitated that every test function, but I often times simply wanted to try one test, or had created an infinite loop that prevented me from moving on to test 2.

The main problem in this game, though, was the learning curve. By having a bunch of puzzles alongside a wall of text, you've run into a similar issue as Calor (which, by the way, I *still* remember because of its amazing battle system). Given the genre of Core Dunk, it was much more forgivable here, but I do think the complexity is likely to turn people away from the game. By making the pacing more gradual, and only introducing mechanics in the levels where they're first used, it would have made the game much more approachable.

Finally, the graphics and audio were perfect for this sort of game. They both communicated a mellow, ambient mood, and complimented the puzzle nature of the game very well.

Overall, you made a fantastic game! Despite its steep learning curve, it was incredibly polished, fun, and interesting to play. Great job!

Core Dunk by stevenjmiller 2018-04-25T00:54:19Z

@stevenjmiller This makes a lot of sense. Your game was incredibly polished, and your recent games had taken so much from Calor that I was surprised to see that this game was facing Calor's problem again. While this was definitely a problem, I've started to realize that something was gained at the same time.

By providing only a set of documentation for your game instead of presenting it gradually through level design, it made each puzzle much more daunting, but also incredibly satisfying. It required me to put in more effort than usual, and every level took more research and critical thinking than I expected. You also presented the mechanics at a somewhat gradual pace - it was just the wall of text that was scary.

While using your typical level design would have made the game much easier (and possibly better), I do believe that something would have been lost in the process. I felt really excited after beating the 8th level of Core Dunk, and I wouldn't have felt this way with typical level progression. Great job once again!

Quest for Gold by Mordokay 2018-04-24T23:53:42Z

This was actually really fun! I enjoyed the multiplayer aspect of the game, and the "waiting" system was really interesting! At first I thought it looked too long, but you kept introducing new challenges to expand on your concept. Great job!

Shootanoid by drludos 2018-04-27T01:27:33Z

I really like this! It does a good job of making the player avoid constantly moving "enemies", which makes the game constantly fun. I also liked the graphics and sound effects, which made the game feel incredibly polished. Despite the fact that I really liked your game, I would have liked to see either less levels, or more mechanics introduced, as the game eventually got a bit repetitive towards the end. Still, though, I really enjoyed my time. Fantastic job!

Remote Bot by Yngvarr 2018-04-27T03:36:08Z

Woah, this is cool! It feels incredibly polished, fun, and I loved every bit of it! All of the mechanics felt great, and even the more awkward ones, like "up", made the game even better. The physics felt smooth, and the game introduced mechanics at a perfect pace. Everything about this game was amazing! Phenomenal work!

walking memory by pragmascript 2018-04-27T00:27:41Z

Good job! I liked the idea of your game, and would really like to see it expanded. It would be great if you focused more on the platformer aspect, added jumping, and generally polished your game. Still, I had fun with this. Nice work!

7575 by Shivur 2018-04-27T04:57:38Z

Good job! Your game had a good concept and I had fun with it! It was a bit difficult to figure out exactly how the cows were supposed to move, but I also think that was sort of the point. Nice work!

Pair's Lair by beta 2018-04-25T00:07:39Z

Good job! This game was short, but pretty fun. It also blended the genres together in a really interesting way!

Last Man Green by ded 2018-04-26T23:30:52Z

Nice work! Your game had an incredible atmosphere, and the sound effects and graphics blended perfectly to achieve this. I also really liked your take on the adventure genre, despite the fact that your game was pretty short. Great job!

Gem Labyrinth by Reylisten 2018-04-26T23:46:26Z

This game is phenomenal! The graphics were perfect, the music was great, and the gameplay was really interesting and fun. I really enjoyed the turn-based combat, and thought that every element of this game was incredibly polished. As TheMonsterFromTheDeep said, this game does need instructions, but it was really fun once I figured it out. I'd suggest adding them to both this page and the itch.io page. Besides that, though, this was a really good game. Great job!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-29T07:55:35Z

Great work! I really liked this game, and had a lot of fun playing it. The deck-building was incredibly interesting (I made The Matter at Hand, so I have bias towards games with cards), and your execution was really good. Now, the main problem was that the game was a bit too easy, and I would love to see this idea expanded with more intricate level design. Otherwise, nice work!

Power in Numbers by amras0000 2018-05-05T23:55:39Z

Good job! I liked the idea, and your combination of genres was fun! I think having a map of the world could have been helpful, as sometimes it got difficult to remember where I had been in the world, although that might just be a matter of preference. Otherwise, nice work!

Text Card Action Game by DragonZlay 2018-05-06T00:39:07Z

Nice work! I liked the story, and enjoyed treating the combat as a puzzle - it made the story more interesting. Now, I'm not sure it exactly fit the theme (the cards were really just actions, and didn't retain any qualities of standard cards), but otherwise I had fun. Good job!

Groove Chase by Matt Pattabhi 2018-04-26T01:50:20Z

Great work! I really like the music, and the game was fun. As others have said, it was too hard, but I got just over 600 points in the end. I'm not sure if that's good or not, but still, I had fun! Nice job!

Blitztris by ThatFrankGuy 2018-05-06T01:05:39Z

Nice work! The visuals were phenomenal, and communicated the mood of the game very well! I found the gameplay itself somewhat confusing and difficult to pull off, but still enjoyed it. If I were to give any advice, I would use the scroll-wheel to rotate the user, instead of just moving the mouse. Otherwise, good job! You made a really fun game!

golf hell by undefinist 2018-04-27T03:43:44Z

This was really cool! It doesn't have too much depth, but everything felt really polished and smooth. The physics were perfect, which was important for this sort of game, and it was fun just to move around, even just doing nothing. I really loved this game. Great job!

Cardbound by Silvae 2018-04-26T01:43:18Z

I really like this! I actually made a pretty similar game myself, but as a tile-based puzzle game rather than a platformer. The platforming in this was fun, and the cards were interesting, and added for some interesting mechanics. Personally, I would have preferred if the 5 cards were linked to five hotkeys (possibly just 1-5), but I still really enjoyed this.

Also... I managed to beat level 2 through some pretty glitchy means, but I can't tell what the intended solution was. The gap above the stairs was too small to go through, so I had to go underneath the level, which was sort of weird. It would be interesting for me to know what I was supposed to do.

A Virtual Friend by frostdragonliz 2018-04-23T17:38:57Z

Huh... I'm not exactly sure what I just played... and I'm pretty sure that's a compliment! While the base game isn't the *most* compelling experience, the... er... *other* aspect of it made it incredibly interesting throughout. Also, the sounds and graphics both complimented each other incredibly well. Amazing work!

By the way, is there a real ending, or just an "end state" where, no matter what you do, the game will continue with two buttons?

TetrisBridgeBuilder by GettingRekt 2018-04-24T02:45:02Z

This is a whole lot more fun than I expected! The gameplay is addicting, and Tetris goes strangely well with bridge constructor. The graphics and music were nice as well. Great job! This was really fun!

Email Fishing: A Tower Defense Fishing Simulator by Johnny Turbo 2018-05-05T18:25:50Z

This was fun! I thought the idea of choosing between spam and normal emails was great, and would have really loved to see more types of emails! I played for a while, but I think that the game increased in difficulty too quickly for me to catch up. Personally, I would have preferred that fisherman pick up mail by themselves, and you click on them afterwards to decide whether their mail is spam or not. They obviously couldn't pick up any more mail while they're holding one message, but I think it would make the game a bit more manageable. Otherwise, great job! I really liked your game!

Think Before Escape by acoto87 2018-04-27T05:20:32Z

Wow, this is great! I liked the central mechanic, and the game was just the perfect length with the mechanics it had. The physics felt fluid, the sound effects were perfect, and the graphics were clean and polished. I had a lot of fun with this. Amazing work!

Blind Faith by LMB 2018-05-06T00:19:11Z

Good job! I liked how this was a stealth game, and its concepts were fun. Overall, I found the game confusing, but I still enjoyed my time playing it. The music was quite interesting as well! Nice work!

Quiz Racing by mAnimal 2018-04-27T03:04:58Z

This was really good! I had fun answering the questions, and even learned a couple of things in the process. I feel like the weird balance between racing and answering questions sometimes made racing a bit awkward, but I still enjoyed the combination a lot. Great job!

MowZTower by Mowztouch 2018-04-25T00:16:06Z

This is a really interesting idea! I think that the game is a bit too unpredictable to be played reliably, but you still made a fun game. I liked the music as well! Good job!

Agent Patissier by sndr 2018-04-23T17:55:03Z

Nice work! You had a lot of polished mechanics here, combined with great art, and good music as well. My only major problem with the game was the level design. I believe there were a few levels that necessitated interesting mechanics, but most levels only required basic movement ability. If you were to work on the level design, this could be a fantastic game! Great job!

Simple Galactic by Arqcenick 2018-04-28T19:59:17Z

Nice job! The visuals were incredibly good, and the music was great as well. I got about 6 planets in the end, and had fun playing the game! I also liked how you showed humanity expanding, and the year in the top-right corner was a good touch. Now, I'm not sure that I fully understood all of the cards, but still thought it was interesting to choose which one to use. Great work!

Keyboard Explorer by Ryvencore 2018-05-06T08:21:20Z

This was really fantastic! It was polished, fun, and I had almost no problems with it. I wish it was longer, but that's almost more of a compliment than anything! The graphics were great, and the music was chosen well! Amazing work! I had a lot of fun with this!

Stealth Cooking by dayn9 2018-04-26T02:00:04Z

Nice work! I liked the combination of genres, and the game was fun. I really liked the 3D walls. They gave the game a really cool effect that I appreciated. Also, you should probably add controls to this page, as it took me a while to figure out that I needed to use "E" to pick up food.

Don't text and fly by Aarre Entertainment 2018-04-24T03:59:24Z

Huh, this was actually pretty fun. The constant balancing between the phone and spaceship constantly kept me paying attention, and I enjoyed it consistently. It had a bit of a learning curve, and the main problem that I saw was that asteroids would come from angles I couldn't see. It would have been nice to not just have clearer vision, but also a greater field of vision, when not looking at your phone. Otherwise, the spaceship controls were good, and the gameplay was incredibly fun. Great job!

Type Ball by Yanni 2018-05-11T20:20:24Z

Nice work! It was really fun to try and type as fast as possible, and I liked that shooting from far away lead to more difficult words. It would have been nice if you added a lose condition, and used a "score" instead of "level", but otherwise I really liked this. Great job!

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-04-23T09:21:24Z

Wow... that took a while to beat. Nice work, though! The game is really well-polished, and it was fun to figure out the solutions to each level. I don't have many criticisms, but I did realize that, on layer 7, it asks you to input "a", "b", and "c" variables without specifying which is which. I'm not sure if that's allowed as a "bug fix", but I did need to look at the solution to figure out which to use. Otherwise, after about an hour, I got all the levels done (prime numbers were really hard, but... in a good way). Great job!

The Tale of Rulers by Spaceface14Dev 2018-04-27T00:04:57Z

Good job! I liked the concept, and thought the game was fun!

Splitscreen Hide N Seek by PackNSlash 2018-04-28T19:46:58Z

My brother and I played this together and really liked it! Your merging of hide-and-seek with splitscreen was really clever, and all of the mechanics you introduced fit the game perfectly. My only suggestion is to offer a smoother transition between 90° turns, as it was a bit confusing to have such a limited view of the stage at all times, and was a bit sudden visually. Otherwise, great job! We had a lot of fun with this!

Road Rules by Sky 2018-04-24T04:17:17Z

I really like this! These two genres are actually pretty interesting together, and the idea that almost everything was an obstacle made the game constantly interesting to play. Great job!

Notified ! by Bigaston 2018-05-06T20:34:04Z

Nice work! I had a lot of fun pressing each of the buttons on the phone, and exploring what they would each do! I'd love to see what you could do with some expansion! Great job!

Putt-Kill by JezPez 2018-04-25T00:26:02Z

Wow, I actually really liked this! The physics and controls were all easy and intuitive, and the game was really fun. The stealth mechanics combined with golf made a lot of sense as well, and this was a great combination. Amazing job!

If Potato Meets Flag Then by joqlepecheur 2018-05-04T01:02:10Z

This was great! I loved the mechanics, and the level design was fascinating, often times having a much more simple solution than I expected and brilliantly using misdirection. The concept was great, the graphics suited the game well, and the audio was good as well. I especially enjoyed the "You Win!" visual effect where the block falls from the top of the screen, especially when combined with the screen shake. Amazing work! I loved this!

KEYBOARD WARRIOR by croewens 2018-04-27T03:23:51Z

Nice work! It felt really polished, the graphics looked great, and the gameplay was fun! Shooting the gun felt satisfying, and eventually the game just felt natural. I really enjoyed my time playing it, but I do think that if you had the difficulty increase over time, it would have helped as well. I got to about 500 points and don't think I got hit even once, as there weren't enough enemies to keep me in danger. Other than that, though, this was fantastic! Amazing job!

Life Is Nuclear by Valden 2018-04-23T17:00:58Z

Nice work! I liked the ASCII art style a lot, and the gameplay's fun as well. The music was great, and fit the game well! The rewind mechanic was interesting, but I think the level design prevented it from being used in a lot of interesting ways. Otherwise, I had a lot of fun with your game. Great job!

Ragerint by Eldemarkki 2018-04-23T18:08:25Z

Nice work! I really liked your twist on traditional labyrinth, and the game was fun!

Monster Stew by Aaron Nemoyten 2018-04-23T16:48:17Z

I really like this! While I'm not usually a fan of 3d games for jams, I think this one really worked; it was pretty polished and played great! I loved the cooking/fps combination, and the game stayed consistently fun throughout my playthrough. My only major criticisms were a few bugs. First of all, enemies could track you and shoot through walls, which felt unfair at times. Secondly, collision with a held monster often pushed you away. It would have been better if it held it in a set position in front of you for all monsters, rather than keeping them where they were when you picked it up. Otherwise, I really enjoyed my time! Nice work!

Six Shooter: Cowboy vs Aliens by Danby 2018-04-23T17:14:50Z

Wow! The reload mechanic in this game is really clever! It made the game really fun and I liked it a lot! The graphics were also great, accompanied by wonderful music/sfx. In the end, I somehow got 5940 points! Nice work!

Fail Fast Co. by hunz 2018-05-05T19:56:14Z

Amazing work! The game was confusing at first, but once I got the hang of it, it got really fun! I never technically finished my round, but I think it could have taken me an incredibly long time to officially lose, as all of my materials were increasing and I had a lot of buildings/building space to work with! The music was charming and fit the genre very well, and everything seemed really balanced! I especially liked how you were forced to use negative cards, and the "skipping" system. I really loved this! Great job!

TypeBoxer by KScorp 2018-04-23T07:38:26Z

Nice work! This game, while simple, was pretty fun! I actually really liked the sound design, and it sounded like an arcade game. The way you formatted the game, rather than just having a WPM calculator, was pretty interesting as well. I am a bit confused what 2 genres you were combining, so I haven't rated you on theme (yet). Other than that, though, you made a pretty great game. I got 53 points!

Legion Academy (LD41) by LegionGames 2018-04-24T03:16:53Z

This was a fun little game! I enjoyed my time with it, and ended up getting a few points in the process.

Similar to ccglp, I wasn't quite clear on the instructions. To fix that, you should add some simple rules to this page. Obviously you can't change the game anymore, but you can at least add it here.

Also, to fix the problem with enemies moving, I would have given the player a small bit of control over the projectile. Maybe it would follow the mouse, or be slightly moved by the left/right keys. By adding that bit of skill, I think it would help a lot.

Otherwise, I had a lot of fun with this game. Great job!

Adventure Pong by TomPK7 2018-05-11T20:27:40Z

This was really cool! I enjoyed the idea of using a text-based game to analyze the text and decide actions from that. Now, I would have especially loved this if it had given memory and puzzle challenges, rather than explicitly giving the answer for each move, but otherwise this was a lot of fun! Great job!

Happiness by OddballDave 2026-05-02T23:35:06Z

This was so much fun hahahaha, the puzzles were honestly fun to figure out and the whole thing had so much character and charm. I was a little confused at the end - was there an actual ending, or is there a point where you just run out of puzzles to solve? Either way, I had a really great time and really enjoyed it, great work!

Drone Supervisor II Online by Jimbly 2026-05-05T06:06:25Z

This was SO much fun. I played with two of my teammates, @kiichirow and @swdji, and 2 of us managed to get soulmusic by the end (Kiichi had to leave early, but the other 2 of us stuck it out). Everything felt surprisingly well-designed, and even well-tested for a jam game (and a COMPO game? that's crazy!). I also really liked the way everything came together to make sounds/music, and the level of polish. So amazing, amazing work!

Echo Chamber by elemel 2026-04-28T06:57:57Z

Such a fun little game! Graphically it was really interesting, and I liked the challenge of the last level a lot, trying to navigate the ramps without falling. Nice work!

Switch Happens by Zettelkasten 2026-05-02T02:54:42Z

Oh man, this is so cool. Such a simple, well-executed concept. The UI is clean and easy to use, the tutorial is super helpful in picking everything up, mechanics are introduced at a good pace, and the complexity arises so naturally from the simple ideas.

My only real criticism is the same as everyone else's - it is pretty brutal having to restart everything when a train crashes - but other than that, this is easily one of my favorite games from the jam. Amazing work you guys!

Enigcremental by Spiced Pigeon 2026-04-27T02:29:09Z

Such a solid incremental game. I actually think the "click" sound is one of the main reasons I liked it - a tiny bit of polish that went a long way to making this feel really clean and satisfying.

I usually try to give some feedback as I can, so I have two small things: First, I got the same bug as @23edsa where I couldn't re-enable the second-to-last row of gears after buying a new gear on a column where the last gear was disabled. But second, I would've honestly preferred if the crank was somewhere else - having it in the top-right corner of my screen made it feel like I didn't have a lot of mouse movement to work with.

But other than that, this was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed my time, and I played a whole lot longer than I probably should have ;)

Crossed Wires by Zigtalk 2026-05-02T22:01:31Z

Wait I actually LOVE this one. The writing was so much fun, the way the puzzles naturally came together after piecing together the easier-to-sort messages, then figuring out from context where the others go, made each level a really unique and interesting puzzle. I've never seen a game like this, and it's such a cool and polished final product. I'm super super impressed, amazing work here!

Mixed Signals by Fractal 2026-05-02T08:52:34Z

Woohoo!!! I got to 100%!!!

This is the first game of the jam I've given 5 stars to. It's not perfect, but it's such a polished and complete final product. The graphics are perfect, the mechanics are so well-made, everything feels really responsive and easy to play, you guys did a phenomenal job here.

As someone who got to 100%... it does overstay its welcome a little bit hahaha. Because each signal is 2%, it's basically a 50-level game. That's almost a full-sized game. It's super impressive you guys managed to pull it off, but it definitely could've been a lot shorter for a game jam.

But again, "there's too much content" is not a complaint that takes away from how incredible of a game you guys made. This is definitely one to be proud of, so happy I got a chance to play it.

Coo-Coo, Chef! by poboy 2026-04-21T06:19:40Z

This is so cute! I love the concept of an octopus desperately trying to keep his team of birds in check and direct them towards a goal. The art is great, the music is fun, and it's definitely funny too hahaha

I'll mirror what everyone else said about the randomness, though. Even just "move in the direction you're facing" and "turn rotate clockwise" would've been enough for me to work with. But spamming "move" 10 times to get a bird to go where I want it to go, followed by "turn" 5 times, was definitely frustrating.

Looks like I'll also be the first to the graveyard. Although... I don't know if it was an accident...

cold_blood.png

And one more thing for the FAQ - I wasn't clear about how serving worked. Do I need to pick up the meal? Bring it to the octopus? Just have it made somewhere? Could have definitely used some clarification on that.

But overall amazing work! With a few small tweaks I think this would be a ton of fun and I'd love to come back to an updated version :)

Pub Protocol Panic by Tomas Poblete 2026-04-22T17:15:44Z

Fun game! Wasn't fully sure how the guard system was supposed to work (was pretty shocked when people just randomly... died? and I didn't know what to do. I think I was supposed to spam the button when that happened?). Same with the door, where I "figured it out" at some point but wasn't fully sure if I understood why it worked the way it did. But the graphics were great, the whole thing was a lot of fun, and I did get through the game to the end! Nicely done!

Pub Protocol Panic by Tomas Poblete 2026-04-25T17:19:26Z

@tomas-poblete I think you lost that ESRB 'E' rating the momemt you chose to put it in a pub 😉

But I'm glad to know the fainted customers are okay haha

Lidar Signal by Eugenik 2026-04-21T02:44:42Z

Super interesting concept, and graphically looks really cool! I got the first 4 signals and then got pretty stuck - it wasn't really clear if the signals were doing anything, and I got too far from the other signals to feel like it was worth it to go after the rest. But as a tech demo I think it's such a really cool base to build off of.

Star Traveller by nyxkn 2026-04-22T17:44:42Z

Love the story here, when everything clicked at the end it was such a cool moment. You created an amazing atmosphere and all the pieces came together so well, especially for a compo game! You did ask for harsh criticism, and I honestly don't have too much feedback, but there's a few things I'd recommend:

1. I think the tuning could've been more satisfying than it was when it "clicks" at the end. Initially I didn't even realize how the tuning worked (I thought you were turning it directly, not "setting the direction" for it to turn on its own, if that makes sense). But once I figured it out, I was always a little disappointed it didn't click into place and make a little clicking sound, or something like that. It felt like I got "close enough", when I really wanted to precisely find the right frequency, even if it would auto-lock into place.

2. The audio on the web build was all messed up for me. Sounded like it was cutting out every half-second or something like that, not sure how to describe it. But I had to use the Windows build because of that.

3. I would've liked a log of the dialogue and decoded messages if possible. I tend to zone out during story-heavy games, which did happen here, and I would've liked an opportunity to go back and read what I'd missed. It's not super necessary and the zoning out is definitely a flaw on my end hahaha, but it's something I would've appreciated.

But overall amazing work, one of my favorite so far from this jam!

Bee Bee Revolution by Xeltide 2026-05-02T23:16:24Z

This is really fun hahaha, was not expecting to play a bee version of DDR in this game jam but I'm happy I did! I wasn't 100% sure how the game was supposed to work at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was really fun gliding around, dancing, and collecting pollen. Great work you guys!

The Last Tuner by Igor Silva 19 2026-04-27T03:56:33Z

This is so cool. It has such a great sense of "scale" - I really felt like I was a small part of this huge world, and I just loved the concept of this giant organ-controlled robot. It's a little rough around the edges - I found collecting fuel a little tedious and the rhythm section a little buggy - but in terms of the atmosphere you created, this might be my favorite jam game yet. Amazing work.

rescue signal by OldDog 2026-04-22T16:39:42Z

This is the sort of game that I need to set boundaries with...

I got through 3 levels trying to max everything up and then decided I had to stop. I felt like I was in a fight for the rest of my day, and I was losing.

It really is addicting, and satisfying, and the sense of progression felt great. Amazing work!

Seagnal by Pikario 2026-05-02T22:40:33Z

I LOVE this one! What an experience! The VA was so so fun, the gameplay felt so smooth and relaxing, it was just such a polished and cohesive experience. Seems like you guys had a ton of fun making it, and I had an absolute blast getting to experience the final product. Amazing work you guys!

Milky Way by finoliso 2026-05-01T05:35:20Z

Fun game! Got to the end and had a good time - but I do think the standout part was actually the opening scene, which really did a great job of setting everything up and made the whole thing feel so much "bigger"! Overall great work guys!

Warden of the Depths by Alex de la Cour 2026-05-02T03:32:40Z

I beat it!!! That was not easy, but I'm proud I got to the end haha

This is easily one of the most polished and complete-feeling games I've played this jam. The controls, the parrying, the graphics, the sound (even if you took the sounds from somewhere else, you integrated them well). I had a really really good time with this one.

I think a lot of people are saying it's too punishing, and I do agree. The parry window could have definitely been longer (although you could've also made the cooldown longer for parrying again). But some of my bigger issues were actually just bugs. The biggest one is that sometimes I couldn't hit enemies after parrying them (basically forcing me to restart the level), but one of the biggest ones for me was that enemies could push other enemies into me. The two zombies in particular were rough - I'd stand, ready to parry, just to get killed by the second zombie pushing the first one. I think the roll timing could've also been slightly more forgiving too, just by giving the player ~200ms to roll once they touch fire before dying.

But none of that's to take away from how great of a job you did on everything else - if I look past the difficulty, I think this might have been the most traditionally fun game I've played this whole jam. Amazing work, and would love to see a post-jam version if you ever make one!

STATIC by Solis 2026-04-23T03:31:58Z

I love so so much about this! The atmosphere you guys have managed to create is so perfect, the audio and dialogue especially is so much fun. The puzzles are really interesting, the concept is really cool, and once I realized that you could fast forward I liked it so much more.

I somehow wasn't able to finish the game, though. Even knowing (removed bc spoiler tags don't work).

I'd love to know if I'm missing something. If so, it would be a huge help to add it to the hints.

But seriously - amazing work. Seems like I'm just having a hard time getting the game to properly end.

AGENTS RHYTHM & RAID by Nadia Pixel 2026-04-22T17:06:13Z

Dang, so much content for a jam game! The concept of taking each enemy's attack was really cool and I loved the graphics. I unfortunately did run into a bug in the third(?) round where I had killed all the enemies, but it didn't move on to the next round, so I had to stop playing there, but I had a really good time for the levels I did play!

World of Gates by Mibi88 2026-05-02T02:37:17Z

I did it!

image.png

First of all, super impressed you managed to pull this off. I feel like building this whole system is way more complex than most jam games, especially if you'd never learned about it before, so kudos to you! I really like the simple graphics too, and had a lot of fun puzzling out all these principles from logic gates that I haven't had to think about in a while.

That being said, it definitely could've been a smoother experience - I'm not sure the issue with the UI was that it wasn't "intuitive" as much as it was really finnicky to work with. Connecting wires together, especially when they were overlapping, splitting, or going backwards, was very very hard to do, even when I was both clear on what I was trying to do and how I was supposed to do it. Connecting them to the gates with 2 inputs was also extremely hard in my experience. It felt like a brute force process a lot of the time and honestly, I probably spent 10x more time (or more) trying to get the wires to connect properly than I did trying to figure out the puzzles.

BUT, it did feel like it got a bit more manageable when I switched from web to Windows, which is maybe something worth playing with. It might've just been that I got more used to the way it all works, but I actually did just feel like everything was less finnicky in the downloaded version.

But beyond that, you really did an amazing job here. The UI/UX stuff does hold the experience back, but if I look beyond that, this is a genuine accomplishment that works surprisingly well, and you have a lot to be proud of. Fantastic work!

Untroubled Bliss by Gamayun.Games 2026-04-27T03:21:08Z

Loved this. One of the few games I've played this jam where I really don't have any notes. You had a vision and pulled it off wonderfully. I got the true ending and really enjoyed the story, great work!

HAYWIRE by hirqshi 2026-04-27T01:14:14Z

It's crazy just how much content you guys managed to fit in here. The art, the sound design, the atmosphere, you guys absolutely nailed it and did a phenomenal job. Presentation-wise, this is easily one of the most impressive jam games I've played, period.

I do think the core gameplay could've used more polish - even once I figured out how to attack/defend, it still didn't feel super intuitive, and it didn't quite feel like the punches and kicks connected as clearly or satisfyingly as I would've liked them to. The panic especially felt a little confusing to me every time it happened - sometimes it seemed random, but sometimes it didn't? I was never quite sure. I'm not sure I have super clear feedback here, but I do think a little more focus on making sure the core mechanics feel clean and satisfying might have gone a long way (which is obviously just hard to do when you're trying to make a 3D game full of content).

But none of that's to take away from the work you guys did - on every level this is such an impressive game, especially for one weekend. Would love to see what an expanded version of this would look like in the future :)

Space PPT by Yarkin 2026-04-27T02:43:39Z

Nice little game - I think it's always fun to enter the jam at the end and put something quick together, and I'm glad you guys did it! Would love to see an expanded version of this that really teaches you morse code bit by bit. It seems like the most straightforward way to play this is to look back and forth between the message and the chart, which can did a get tedious (eventually I learned I could just look at the last 1 or 2 numbers each time). But I did notice myself slowly starting to pick up letters one by one when I was playing at the start, and I started getting them more quickly. If you could build a version of the game that feels more like that, letting the player slowly build up their knowledge and quickly apply it, I'd love to come back and play more of that version of the game!

But even the version here is absolutely something to be proud of, great work guys :)

FixTheDamnSignal! by anszwa 2026-04-28T07:12:19Z

Maybe my favorite take on the theme from this whole jam!

FixTheDamnSignal Screenshot.png

Reached 21 points. Feeling pretty proud of that. Felt like I had it down to a science by the end haha. Had a lot of fun with it!

One thing I will say is if you added extra audio later, I'd definitely at least write a note in your game description up above to indicate what you added. I do feel like it matters since we're rating you on audio.

But other than that, awesome work! :)

Call of Depths by Nnican 2026-05-02T03:52:05Z

Atmospherically, this is SO cool. The graphics, the audio, all of it. I think my favorite touch is the little piano sounds when you're repairing - somehow they make this feel like a "real" game and not just a jam game, and that's so so cool. I think this might be the most professional-feeling jam game I've played yet this jam.

Unfortunately, like a lot of the others, I didn't understand what to do. I definitely understood I needed to repair the engine when it broke, but the cameras and sonar seemed like they were mostly just there to scare me haha, and it wasn't super clear to me what the signal was for. Was I scaring away the leviathans? Sending a signal to the surface to rescue me faster? When it "betrayed" me at the end, I wasn't actually sure what I had even been getting out of the signal by using it at all. Is it better if I just don't use it?

Would actually love to come back and play if you leave just a little more explanation on the jam page here.

The only other feedbback I have is that I had no idea that I could use the A and D keys to look to the left and right (and if there are other relevant keys, I definitely didn't find those). I assumed this was a mouse-only game until I got too stuck and started pressing random keys on my keyboard. A little explanation on the jam page could be good for that too.

Anyways, I say all that just because I try to give feedback when I can - but as a whole, this is a really, really incredible experience you guys made. Phenomenal work, and let me know if there was anything I was missing so I can try again!

The Red Watcher by FoxEcho 2026-04-22T16:56:48Z

Loved this one. I think the graphics were actually the highlight for me - the planet and space around it just looked so good and polished. I also couldn't tell if this was intentional, but a lot of the time it seemed like the collecting was synced up with the music? Whether or not it was meant to, that actually made it feel a lot more energizing.

traceroute by wles 2026-04-21T05:58:39Z

Had a lot of fun with this one! Visually I love the style, the puzzles were really interesting, and everything felt really mechanically intuitive on its own!

There were some puzzles where I felt frustrated with how long I had to wait - any time where something was spinning was especially rough - but I did get all the way to the end, and did thoroughly enjoy my experience getting there. Great work!

Traffic Simulator by JamesGames1000 2026-04-21T02:50:26Z

Would love to play this - is there a link to the game somewhere?

Traffic Simulator by JamesGames1000 2026-04-21T02:54:28Z

@jamesgames1000 Oh okay, thank you! Probably would be best to change the link to say Windows instead of Source Code then, had me a little confused at first.

Sig-Null by BorealTeuthidia 2026-04-27T03:43:30Z

Maybe it's okay Ludum Dare is ending...

I rizzed one toilet. I wanted to rizz two but I couldn't find a second one. Either way, fighting the enemies was a fun time by itself.

I'd appreciate a version of the game from the jam, since it seems like the only one linked is to the post-jam version. But I did genuinely have a good time with this. You did exactly what you set out to do and did it well. Nicely done guys.

Signal Keeper by IndiePanda 2026-05-01T05:47:46Z

I really like it! Yes, it's a little repetitive, which I think is feedback you've gotten enough of, but the little puzzles are genuinely fun and especially at the start I enjoyed it a lot.

I actually think I would've been a lot more okay with the repetitiveness if there was just a *little* more variety (putting the puzzles in different places, etc.) and if the games were a little bit more straightforward to control with less waiting. Even just being able to click with the mouse instead of navigating with q/e might have helped a lot.

I love the graphics and the vibe you created, and would love to see a post-jam version if you ever make one, great work! :)

Herdware Signal by Seravlac 2026-04-27T01:26:34Z

What a simple, well-executed concept. Took me a bit to realize that the signal was based on my camera direction, not the car direction, but once I did it got a whole lot easier from there. The atmosphere was great, the cows were fun, and you did a great job of creating what I assume was fake tension to stress out the player without actually putting them in danger of losing. Nicely done!

Peace : 165 by OasisGreen 2026-05-05T04:36:55Z

I love this! You all created an amazing atmosphere and a really moving story.

Fake Social by Culf 2026-05-02T07:41:52Z

This is really funny hahaha, felt pretty disheartening watching the perception almost always drop no matter what I chose, but that probably accurately captures how it actually feels to have this job

TWILIGHTHOUSE by bobanko 2026-05-05T04:14:35Z

Haha this is so fun seeing your guys' version of our game! We actually had talked about the idea of having the lighthouse try and get the ships to the middle, and the idea of using the light to push monsters away, so it's really cool seeing that version!

Occult Ace by IRKAR 2026-04-27T03:10:49Z

Really solid game! It actually felt really reactive and smooth, and I think the sound effects helped a lot to make everything feel really polished. Would've liked an ending or a score or something - especially with jam games it's nice to have some kind of objective - but the core gameplay here is super solid and something to be really proud of. Great work!

Moumtain Pipin by Gog_2 2026-05-02T04:21:29Z

Lovely little game! The art, sound effects, and music are all really fun, and I had a great time playing it! I do think it was a little harder than it needed to be - feels a little bit like the classic trap of the game's developers not realizing how much better they are at their game than everyone else hahaha - but I did get to the end and felt super accomplished by the time I got there! Great work you guys!

THE HORSE WE MADE by cesta 2026-05-01T04:57:48Z

I loved this one so much more than I expected to. I don't know what I felt while I was playing but it was definitely something? You guys made easily the most unique game I've played this jam, thank you for creating this experience

Drum`n`Ice by PepeBrante 2026-04-27T02:55:57Z

Great game! I got to the final boss and unfortunately lost there :pensive: - but before that point I was having a really good time!

The only big piece of feedback I have is that I think it would've been nice if you had to push 4 buttons per "spell", not 5. I'm pretty sure the music is in 4/4, and if it could've lined up more cleanly with that, it probably would've felt a lot better synced up.

But the graphics, the music, the gameplay, I enjoyed it all! Great work you guys!

Tooth Fairy by FLemming1k 2026-04-27T03:28:08Z

Dang okay, yeah, did not see that coming. The first half was genuinely fun, the second half was... different

Always love a good twist, great work guys :)

Echo by FlameSeer 2026-04-21T02:33:31Z

This is really cool! It was such a cool moment when I realized how the echolocation works. Seems like it must've been pretty fun to build on a technical level, and the result is so visually interesting too.
