Can't finish the third level XD
I enjoyed this a lot. The controls can be a little funky, especially when the forces that are supposed to be applied to the circle are also applied to the square at seemingly random times (I also periodically forgot that the wall-jump existed), but there are also times where the controls feel great. The puzzles are smart and enjoyable, and accomplishing a difficult level feels really good. My only huge complaint is that the relationship between square and circle feels a little one-sided, circle really needs to step it up. Circle could use a makeover as well, the horrified screaming stare really contrasts against the rest of the game's tone.
Oh and the music is very atmospheric and cute. Well Done, Milo!!
Made me think of a little iphone puzzle game! The little blurbs in between were an added touch for sure. I think I was on the last elvel, but I was stuck for like 10 minutes and then it randomly reset, not really sure why, maybe I pressed a button that resets the whole game. I knew what I had to do, just wasn't good enough to pull it off! Was the one after "even when it seems impossible" ironically
Between the music and story between levels, you really captured the 'mood' for this game! I wanted to do everything I could to make sure Circle was safe. The difficulty ramp up was well paced and made me want to keep playing 'just one more time' to get through each level. Great job!
Really like the music, chill and suits the game. The art is simple but effective. The puzzle mechanics were fun to work out and play through.
A romantic game :p. It fits the theme nicely. Good job!
Not gonna lie, circle seems like it REALLY does not want square around xD. Enjoyed it!
Really fun and challenging :) Nice work. Can't beat the third level though :P
You really did a great job setting the mood of the game! The music and story was heartwarming, and the puzzles were enjoyable too. I wish the controls were less slippery, sometimes moving around and walljumping can be tough. Great job!
I think circle has a death wish. Still had a lot of fun carrying my less-capable friend to safety.
I really liked that there was a story through a puzzle game, and the mechanics did a great job of relating to their relationship. Square felt a little floaty to control, but the wall jumps were really responsive. Great work!
WOW!... wow! I love it! The circle's face kinda freaks me out, just like that shield from Zelda. But the story is cute, the song matches it, gives this relaxing and comforting vibe, kinda like yoshi's island. The level design is GENIUS!! Thank you for this entry!
Challenging game! But the puzzles were really well made, sometimes I think the game was rewarding precision control rather than solving the puzzles which made things a bit of a challenge, but I really love the idea and it's executed very well nonetheless! Good job
Wow this is so good. The story is cute, and the mechanic is really novel. Most importantly, the level design is so great. Most LD platformers I play have really rushed or just lame levels, but these were great. Awesome job
This is my surprise favorite so far. It's very rare to see an LD puzzler with clever level design, and yet you also found time to include fitting, soothing music and a cute story.
One thing that bothered me: inertia, friction, all that quasi-realistic physics. It's too intense. It makes me feel less in control and doesn't really contribute to difficulty.
Nice work on a puzzle platformer. The audio is a good complement to the rest of the design.
I really liked your timelapse video. I might have to try that on my next jam project. The pressure of it might help keep me focused, too!
This was a neat little game! I enjoyed the central mechanic of keeping the circle alive, and your level design was really great! The music added to the atmosphere too, and I enjoyed the text between each level. Great work!
I love puzzle platformers and this was a good entry for that genre. I had enough fun with it but it got a little frustrating after a while and I feel like the controls were to blame here. They were a little too floaty or physics-y for my tastes(if that makes sense).
Quite charming. I wish the player character controlled a bit more precisely, but overall it felt good and the puzzles were fun. Nice job!
A really sweet game! It felt interesting, just enough frustration to be fun, knowing what I need to do, just not being able to do it. Sometimes the controls felt unresponsive, but besides that its a good game!
Good little game! And quite hard I must say. Overall the controls feel a bit too floaty for my taste. Still made it to the end :)
Well done!
I have mixed feelings about this game. The puzzles are rather interesting (disclaimer: I couldn't get past level 7 I think. How many are there?), the graphics (especially the hearts showing up when they touch) are endearing, music fits the game well, and there is an interesting narrative!
But as I progressed through the levels, I felt like the narrative got dark rather than cute. It's like Square is this obsessed dude who will do anything to follow Circle. "She could go place he couldn't - *but he always found a way*". Maybe Circle is suicidal because of his attention? Her facial expression certainly doesn't help their case.
P.S. Binging "You" might have had something to do with my read on this.
I wish i could finish the thrid level TT But this is my favorite love story of the game jam <3
Well-formulated puzzles! I like it, good job! :D
Pretty good. Solid platforming mechanics, with challenging but fair puzzles that are satisfying to solve. The audio was also quite good. I will say, however, that the graphics were a bit rudimentary and didn't mesh well with the game's narrative themes. Overall, however, it was a great effort for 48 hours.
Loved it! sweet story and the mechanics were both simple and challenging.
Made it to the end! This game has well designed levels: each one is like a small puzzle which also requires mastery of the controls to beat. I'm not a huge fan of how controlling square feels. Square is very slow to start moving, and I couldn't really get the hang of wall jumping. I liked how the story was reflected in the levels (like how after you say square feels like they're "walking on clouds", we get to do a level where only square can stand).
Not sure if the relationship between square and circle is a healthy one, but there certainly are a lot of heart shaped sparks flying when they touch!
Honestly, one of the best experiences I have had so far this jam. I don't have a lot of suggestions or complaints really, the mechanics were simple and fun and the difficulty curve was pretty darn good (quite the feat for a compo!), the little story was awesome, the whole experience was really satisfying. Great entry, kudos!
Oh man, the controls mid air are a bit frustrating. I often found myself unable to prevent myself from dying and it didn't feel like I was at fault. Other than that, i enjoyed the narrative, and it was a fun game. Great work.
I am a huge fan of using mechanics and level design as a metaphor for a greater meaning. And although the metaphor here SEEMS simple, you are able to make it resonate so well with the way you present it. Well done!
I also love the subtle little charms this game has, my particularly favorite nice touch is the heart that opens and closes every level. :) So cute!
I do think that some of the challenges the game presents to the player are a little on the difficult/frustrating side, though. The traversal mechanics are pleasantly floaty, but some of the segments seem to require some pretty perfect jumps/timing. I think if you had more time to playtest with groups of people you would have no problem tightening up these issues, though. What you have here is already very solid!
very cool platformer, had fun playing it  GJ!
Nice idea!
I liked the SFX and the relaxing background music. The mechanics r great!
U, probably, should seek for a professional to analyse this strange sexualization of geometric forms!
I'm also a huge fan of SDL, so congrats by using it and building it for webassembly!
Great concept! Liked it!
That was fun! Thanks for making it. My only significant criticism is that I don't think circle needed a face. Other then that the music was good, the idea was good, all around good stuff.
More like tricky then a skill game, especialy the mechanics is tricky. I like the chill music in background. Levels are pretty hard for a jam. Maybe start with some easier levels.
Nice little puzzle game. I really like the music, it suits the game. I had little problems with the controls.
Very cool and very challenging game! I really liked the concept! Something that maybe could be improved is the controls. I think they felt a little bit too floaty somehow. Especially the wall jumping felt a little bit off (or maybe I'm just bad). Other than that I think this was an excellent entry with a fun and creative implementation of the theme!
I loved it, it's really nice that you managed time to create a complete clean, challenging and moody game. On top of that you did it in webassembly ! That's really great
Nice. The levels were well designed, but I found the controls a bit difficult in places. Overall it kept me engaged though.
Beautiful game, really! Music is very, very good. The writing worked very well. Music and writing created a very nice atmosphere. Simple but effective mechanics. Kudos!
Really nice ideas and levels. Found the jump in difficulty from level 2 to 3 very high and jumping a bit too floaty for me. Really loved the idea though and some great level designs made me feel smart when i solved them. great job!!!
Nice job overall. The puzzles were good and the music was great. I didn't get past the "seemingly impossible" level, though I felt like I - the player - knew how to solve it, but the character controls were a bit to awkward for me to be able to do what I wanted. If you take it further, then imho I'd recommend making the acceleration and deceleration forces higher so the controls are a bit more snappy, and consider a higher 'gravity' force when the player is decending/falling than when accending/jumping (like Mario has). I was really compelled to keep playing but after several dozen attempts I couldn't get past the level mentioned above. Still, nice work :)
Overall good idea, but bit hard to control, some easier tutorial levels would have made the experience better. But in general a good idea with good execution :)
Cool game! I got through about six or seven levels. Even though the puzzles were well-designed, it was very challenging to execute on the "plan" for each level, and it might take me a half-dozen tries to finish the level even after solving the puzzle. As other commenters suggested, tighter controls would go a long way to curb potential frustrations like that. I also would have liked a better visual indicator to differentiate the semi-solid walls (purple versus blue barriers) - it frequently felt like a "guess" which character could move through which.
I'd like to particularly praise the concept, the EXCELLENT puzzle design (the puzzle-difficulty curve is very appropriate IMO!), and the sound design!! Very nifty submission, I'm glad I got to play it! Cheers ^^
You really surprised me! When the game was titled "Circle meets square" I wasn't expecting much but your writing narrative + clever design of the puzzles really made something fantastic. You really put a lot of love into this and there's a lot of little touches that show so much talent and promise. I can't wait to see what you make next - keep up the great work.
This game is really challenging. Will come back to it later to try to beat the level I am currently not able to beat! Pretty good COMPO entry, I would say.
Very cool game! Nicely designed puzzles! Some of the levels require a bit more precision control than others. Gotta love the expression on the circle. :) The music really lends to the romantic atmosphere along with the narrative. I liked it a lot!
I think that the controls feel a little "floaty" (I'd say the squares reaction to the controls feel a bit slow).
Otherwise this is a really fun game ! The puzzles, the simple graphics, and the narration reminded me of Thomas Was Alone.
Well done !
I really enjoyed playing the game. Well... most of it. The last level was really hard, but also satisfying to finish at last :) The floaty controls are a bit hard to master, but I am not sure if they should be changed or not. All in all great game!
Nice mechanics. Difficulty almost got the better of me.
Cool game with some nice puzzles! I wasn't a fan of the controls though, they felt quite hard to work with. I agree with an above comment that calls the reaction to the controls too slow. The particle effects when colliding were also a bit much. Besides that though, great work!
Nice game. I agree with the other commenters, the controls could be a bit less floaty. Most of the dificulty in the game right is due to the controls, not due to the puzzles. However, the game is still fun und I love the audio.
The idea is great and I also like the puzzles, but the controls are *insanely* bad. At first I didn't get past the second level, but after reading the comments here I gave it another chance and was able to beat a few more levels (but not the game). It's very frustrating if you know how to beat a level in theory, but can't due to the fact that the square is as responsive to your commands as a supertanker full of heavy oil, except for wall jump, which makes it even more difficult.
The game was really cute and fun but the controls start to work against you as you progress through the level. The Gravity is way too low, the square feels heavy to move and super difficult to make him stop. It always felt like I'm fighting against the controls and not trying to solve the puzzles. When finally getting through level 3 the square took a lot to stop and I slid into the black particles which lost me the level. I did get to level 7/8, honestly I really wanted to finish the game, but I just got very frustrated from the controls. The puzzles tho were very interesting and I liked figuring out how to get both myself and the circle to the 'exit'. Music was awesome! And the Overall mood of the game felt very cute and enjoyable even tho the art was simple. Cool entry!
The game play is quite nice, you made a rate job with the game , the story and the music. The game is maybe quit difficult, the wall jump is pretty slow, so it's pretty hard to get it in time and being efficient on the wall jump. Well this is really great work you did there :)
This was fun and super cute. I'm surprised I beat it tbh, I didn't think I'd ever get past that level with 3 switches and you had to kinda navigate through a bit of a maze before the ball rolls off the right of the screen.
The concept was good and it fit the theme perfectly. Although I feel like the level design was very restricted by being limited to a single screen, if there was a dynamic camera system and maybe some checkpoints, you could do some really elaborate levels that I think would be awesome. The controls were a bit sticky at times with the physics, but most of the time it worked pretty well. The only thing I really had a gripe with was the jumping, it was annoying that the vertical velocity was dampened when you jumped while you were next to a wall.
With a bit of polish and a few more levels, I feel like this could be a pretty good looking product. Good job!
Simple design, yet effective and complex puzzles. A great game... loved the level design, the intros, the music. Very well done!
Very well done! Music is excellent, graphics and sound effects are very nice, and the level design is clever. There also seem to be a lot more levels than in many LD games. It was a bit difficult for me, jumps are a bit tricky, so I didn't manage to get to the end, but I did get five or six levels in
Really, really good - but pretty rage inducing at the higher levels. Is it a good or bad thing if you hope there are no more levels but keep going through them anyway?
