LD39 — Running out of Power

Azrellian Asteroid Field by KunoNoOni 2017-08-02T01:30:23Z

Great cute game :) I really liked the audio: both the sfx and the voice over.

The gameplay wan't particularly innovative, but it was done well. I enjoyed the variety of powerups.

I really enjoyed the pixely graphics. It was kind of a shame that you strayed toward more hi-res ones in some places (star background, main menu).

Overall, a very nice game

VUEL by Jezzamon 2017-08-02T00:43:56Z

Wow I really got hooked on this. So much replayability from such a simple concept. Everything about it was great :)

Cryozia by Flipsy 2017-08-05T13:54:33Z

Definitely a great fit for the theme. The sfx, art, and concept all really work well to make this a retro feeling game.

I didn't like the controls at first, and still am not 100% sold on them, but I did get used to it and enjoy having to do little controlled bursts. It felt very strategic.

My main problem is that the controls are so unforgiving. If you are in a groove, doing the perfect little bursts, it's very rewarding, but if you accidentally hold the key down for too long, you burn tons of power and become almost unrecoverable. Might as well reload the browser at that point. It would be cool if there was a 'maximum speed' imposed so this wouldn't happen.

Also, and this is just a nitpick, if you happen to get stuck in the corner of 2 rocks, might as well reload the browser too. The ship will probably spin around and get stuck, requiring half your power just to get out.

Overall, the positives far outweigh the negatives. It was a very cute and enjoyable game.

Also, my condolences about your dog :(

Alien Invasion by M2tias 2017-08-02T00:22:48Z

Really fun game. I enjoyed the difference between the soldier and mecha modes.

The level design was generally really good. I ran out of battery just when a new underground warren showed up.

My one criticism is that some of the underground snakes(?) were spawned with such density that it seemed impossible not to take damage, regardless of platforming skill. A little unfair.

Overall a great game

Mars Mystery by wolar 2017-08-03T02:12:38Z

Great game! Has the best mood of any game I've played so far.

I found the controls very intuitive and had no trouble with them at all.

The difficulty curve was pretty good. I beat the game without running out of power, but still had some very tense moments on level 3 when I got lost and had to shut down all systems and wander around blind, hoping to find a sun spot.

**Possible spoiler ahead, ignore if you haven't played the game yet**

My only negative critique of the whole thing is that the 'hole' you have to get through on level 3 is pretty non-obvious. It got stuck in it a few times, so initially I wrote it off as impassible, but eventually I came back to it. The camera also panned up high enough that I couldn't really see my rover at all in the hole, which added to the confusion.

Overall, a great take on the theme, and a very polished little game

Plutonium & Gold by ted 2017-08-05T15:42:25Z

Great looking game and a great fit for the theme.

It was interesting to have to balance getting fuel with going for gold. The random generation was nice, and the way you have to explore deeper into the mine to reveal the next level of rocks is very cool.

I'll be honest, it isn't a ton of 'fun' just yet, but I like the concept. It's pretty easy right now. Some obstacles/enemies would make it interesting. Or maybe the robots randomly break-down and need to be repaired somehow.

Overall, a great accomplishment for an LD game. The overall polish-level is super high.

PLASMAGUN! by yuigoto 2017-08-01T03:18:26Z

I keep getting stuck on the cutscene between level 1 and 2. I hear "Good job", see the lab wall with a window, but the level never loads? Any ideas? I really like the gameplay so far :)

Power Stationed by ReboundGames 2017-08-02T02:55:46Z

Wow this was super interesting! One of the most unique games I've played so far.

I personally would never make a game like this for game jam because you have to get all the little audio and graphical cues polished up perfectly. Somehow, you managed to do that. It felt really cool getting into a rhythm and raking in cash.

Couldn't beat it, but I really liked it overall. Nice game!

Defend Home: Mars by sgt3v 2017-08-04T12:45:14Z

Great game, especially for a first FPS. I really enjoyed how simple but fun the mechanics are. It got really dicey near the end when I was down to 1 power core, low on ammo, and had to survive for another ~40 seconds. I definitely felt accomplished for winning.

Adding some recoil and an animation when you take damage would go a long way to improving the feel of the game, but you still accomplished a lot for 48 hours.

P.S the main menu was surprisingly polished for a LD game. Lots of juiciness there.

Great job

Survival Adventures by tomdeal 2017-08-04T15:41:19Z

Tons of content here for an LD game. I'm super impressed by all the interactions/crafting/items you've implemented in 48 hours.

The game isn't super 'fun' just yet, but I can definitely see this expanding into a great survival game. The TV-show parody theme is genius too. It gives you a non-contrived win condition (last 5 days), which I like in survival games. Much better than just survive as long as you can.

Great stuff!

The Day The Robots Attacked by jasperarmstrong 2017-08-04T02:53:01Z

Lots of strategy for such a small game. I really enjoyed trying to balance my desires to: destroy robots, recharge batteries, recharge gun, and recharge health.

I could definitely see this being expanded with more enemies, abilities, level geometry etc.

My biggest negative is that, sometimes, the robots spawn right on top of me, and I feel I have no choice but to take damage or die. I'd also really like some kind of of indicator that robots have started attacking the core when I'm too far away to see it. Nothing worse than coming back with a full battery than seeing 3+ robots attacking the core.

Overall, one of my favorites so far

Game of Cows by greysphere 2017-08-03T00:56:34Z

Wow this was fun! And a ton of content too.

The graphics and overall aesthetic are great.

I really enjoyed most of the mechanics. My only gripe was I got so many tools, but could only hold onto 2. I ended up discarding one, then wishing I hadn't later. I wish there was like a 'tool shed' where you could store tools you'd already bought, and have access to them if your play style changes.

The last thing, and this could just be my incompetence, was I couldn't figure out how to add my name to the leader-board. I got a 67, which was good for like 5th place, but I couldn't seem to enter any letters with the keyboard, or scroll though an alphabet like old arcade games. Is the leaderboard actually online? Or just hardcoded into the game?

Overall, one of the best games I've played so far. Great job!

Chargie the Bot by pacificyost 2017-08-03T01:30:07Z

Great little game overall. Definitely fit the theme well, and I enjoyed the gameplay (simple as it was).

My biggest criticism is that it was hard to get my bearings with such a zoomed-in viewport. Especially with respect to remembering where I had already been in the maze. It would be awesome if the character left behind some little breadcrumbs to remind me where I had been

Overall though, a very nice game :)

Power Grid Manager by cudabear 2017-08-04T02:31:24Z

Great game. I really enjoyed the hectic action and constant rush of managing many houses.

Like many other people mentioned, the audio cues are superb. Once you figure out what to listen for, the game becomes almost like a rhythm game. I really got in the zone

Turtle's Quest by orcdraco 2017-08-04T18:24:50Z

Great looking game. Really charming artwork and overall aesthetic.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get very far because the platforming was so unforgiving. Lots of issues with getting stuck on walls/cielings and not being able to reliably jump over obstacles.

I also had the same font-size issues as @randomphantom, which made it hard to read the instructions as they came up.

Overall, a very pretty game, but needs some work.

ENERGY-X by justking144 2017-08-01T03:11:41Z

The tank is cute!

Unfortunately, the game is just too hard. I feel like there is about a 10 pixel window to successfully jump, otherwise you fail.

It also wasn't really clear to me that I was actually dying because there is not death animation or other feedback. In fact, the level resets so fast that I thought I was successfully jumping. Only my resetting score gave it away.

Spaceship Ferry Captain's Handbook, Chapter 12: What to Do in the Event You... by sketchycode 2017-08-01T04:10:55Z

This was super fun. I am a fan of ship management games, but hate when they're needlessly complex. This had a very approachable yet strategic element.

It took me 4 restarts to really figure out the sensitivity of the controls, but after that, it was quite enjoyable.

It wasn't 100% obvious, but is there only 1 level? I know it's different every time, but the spaceship is always pretty close. Does it ever get further away, or more difficult in another way. It was honestly pretty easy by the 3rd and 4th times.

Deep Jellergy! by shanebauman 2017-08-01T03:47:31Z

Great music and mood, really gets immersive if you play for a few minutes.

I really enjoyed the trade-off between being more aggressive (get more energy from kills, but use more in torpedoes/damage) and being more stealthy (use more energy on movement, but avoid damage and using ammo). Definitely got hectic after 50+ meters!

Great job

Attack on battery by FabulousDesu 2017-08-05T16:13:55Z

Great game. Very simple concept, but well executed in all aspects: art, sfx, music, controls, graphics. Really addictive and just plain fun.

The only thing that wasn't crystal clear to me was whether I was preventing damage by using my shield to block the little square badguys, or if I absolutely had to shoot them (they're so quick!). It'd be nice if there was some visual feedback regarding that.

I'd love to see a Post-LD version with more weapons, powerups, and baddies.

Automated Explorer by Aircraft Terrier 2017-08-02T02:23:18Z

I have no idea how you created so much quality content in 48 hours.

To start, the aesthetic is 100% cohesive. The art, music, and sfx all match perfectly with the theme and style of the game. Nailed it.

Next, the concept is just perfectly executed. Some upgrades require intricate puzzles, others require twitch-based skill. Had a lot of "ah ha!" moments when I realized I'd have to use multiple drone types, or multiple drone instances, just to get 1 upgrade. It blows my mind how much content is in this little game.

I only have a few (very minor) criticisms:

* The back-and-forth exploration is kind of tedious after a while. The portals do a great job of alleviating this somewhat, but I wish there were more of them.

* I wish there had been a map. Obviously, part of the game is exploration, so maybe it only allows you to see areas you've already visited. Or add map piece pickups as an alternative goal for the player.

Great game. Going to be hard to beat.

Jam Simulator by vizitas 2017-08-04T13:08:01Z

This was my first time participating in LD and this game really struck home with me. When the theme was announced (Friday, 9PM for me), I made a whole pot of coffee and was up till 4AM. I slept restlessly until 8AM and got back too it. It's awesome to see my coffee situation is common enough to make it into a LDJam simulator!

Overall, I really enjoyed the game. It was deceivingly complex, and required good management skills.

By far the best part was the sfx. Great job with those!

Blackout: Security Breach by The-iron 2017-08-01T03:04:58Z

Fun game! The main character punching animation was super smooth.

The game was really well balanced. I was out of ammo and low on health just in time for the re-suppy points.

Biggest downside is that I didn't find any way to punch/kill the eyeballs without losing 1 heart (if my shotgun was empty). If I saw 1 on the screen after i'd already expended my ammo, and I had 1 heart, I knew it was game over.

Tank Empty by JSMCAG 2017-08-02T19:21:50Z

Great for 6 hours of work! I liked the overall aesthetic. The music, sfx and art were all cohesive.

I didn't really enjoy how quickly, and far, the cars could 'merge'. It seems like you have to always assume they'll merge 5 lanes over and hit you, which, for me, crosses the line from 'challenging yet fun' to 'difficult for the sake of it'.

I also wish the fuel bar was more readable. It's so far away in the corner that I had to avert my gaze to see it, and it also lacked contrast with the surrounding game.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Loot & Looter by NickZangus 2017-12-08T22:00:29Z

Lot's of good aesthetics here. The graphics, audio, and even camera angle work together to create a really good feeling dungeon crawler.

The mechanic is fun and feels good. It also had some subtle depth in choosing when to throw away loot, and when to horde it. Good job!

Unfortunately, I found the controls kinda 'floaty' in a bad way. I felt like, if I got into a corner with a couple skeletons around me, there was nothing I could do to get out alive.

Still, lot's of positives and I had a good time playing!

BaconMan by josefnpat 2017-12-08T01:53:41Z

This was really really fun. Using both hands and developing a routine -- 1 hand starts cooking bacon and guards the left, other hand eats bacon and guards the right -- was really gratifying and fun.

The sound effects were awesome. BAaAaAcon!

Awesome!

Boat&Friends by averagebrownie 2017-12-05T20:01:43Z

Very fun to play. The physics were very predictable and not too chaotic (which sometimes happens in these games). Getting a ton of boxes to all line up perfectly 3 high felt really good. Starts out easy but gets hard as soon as you mess up a little, which rewards patience and expertise.

Wish there was at least a 'high score' kept track for you in the game. I was expecting a real game-over screen the first time I completed it, so I didn't even realize what my score was.

Still, lots of fun. Congrats!

Grammar Dystopia by Xarras 2017-12-08T18:21:11Z

Really innovate and clever. The weird graphic/video mashup is just the kinda creativity I like to see in LD. I enjoyed the humor and the crude back-talk a lot.

My only complaint is that you can't edit your sentence in-place after you mess up (have to start over).

P.S: There's also a typo in the rule for 'the': it should be 'is placed' not 'it's placed'. Seems silly, but for a game about correctly following new grammar rules, it's kinda ironic.

Pixel Cartel by automatonvx 2017-12-06T21:42:10Z

I had a lot of fun with this. I agree with @Tabass that I didn't really feel the theme integration (I know you said it was subtle), but it was still a fun game.

The only thing that I never figured out was how weapon switching worked (if at all). I bought the shotgun and enjoyed using it, but then I picked up the boss's Uzi and couldn't figure out how to switch back.

Slightly annoying traffic by JOrbits 2017-12-04T03:39:33Z

Overall, a very well made game. Graphics, audio, controls, and design are are all top notch and cohesive.

The gameplay is fun, but gets stale pretty quick. Some kinda variety (ball in the street, police chase, school bus stoppage, traffic jam) could really spice it up.

Loot n' Scoot by Nick Rafalski 2017-12-07T20:04:03Z

@formalcloud, @nate-wec, @backyard-dev, @shelvid, @sbarrio, @fussenkuh, @ace17, @call-me-nutty, @kef, @videojames - Thank you all for playing the game, and especially for the kind words and critiques!

@ohmi - You're the first person to call one of my LD games their 'favorite'! Thanks! I really like your game, Fast Frontier, I've gone back to play it twice since I rated it. If you update it with more missions, please be sure to tell me!

@automatonvx - Thanks for the compliments and feedback! Yea I definitely feel like the game needs some animations.

@fahim-faysal - Thanks for the kind words! I definitely see what you mean about adding a visual indicator for when the sheriffs start chasing you. It can be frustrating when they just sort of emerge out of a pack of civilians and nab you

@honest-dan - Thanks so much for the compliments and critique. After reading your comment, I tested it out and realized that the camera scrolls slowly whenever its against one of the boundaries (there is a physics body attached to the camera, held in check by 4 invisible walls, to keep it from showing half a blank screen). The friction caused by the camera's body sliding against the boundary boxes is what causes the slowdown. I should definitely fix this in a post-jam update. Thanks for the spot!

Loot n' Scoot by Nick Rafalski 2017-12-09T14:51:06Z

@ohmi - great, I look forward to seeing it!

@kodiqi - Thanks for playing and leaving such great feedback! You're spot on about the camera (I've fixed it in a post-jam version already). The safes can be grabbed at any time, but they fill up 100% of your bag, so if you are carrying anything else, you won't pick it up. The whole 'weight' system is not explained anywhere, so that's a failing of the game for sure.

Loot n' Scoot by Nick Rafalski 2017-12-10T16:06:21Z

@peachtreeoath - Thanks so much for playing the game and leaving great feedback! I agree the game can get kind of tedious, especially on the medium/hard levels where you have to make a ton of trips. Thanks for the Prison Architect comparison, I take it as a great compliment!

Just Fishing by ruthiepee 2017-12-10T16:25:00Z

Really pretty and great sound effects!

Jerome's Big Heist by MoneaGames 2017-12-04T15:31:49Z

Overall, a very fun game.

I had a little difficulty understanding the mechanics of the game at first (telling whether I'm actually spotted, if the guards' will leave me alone after a certain time, etc), but once I got into it, I realized it was almost a puzzle game.

Nice job!

The Floor is Lava by BinarySpark 2017-12-06T16:33:52Z

Really well built game. The graphics and audio/visual effects all combine for a really satisfying feel.

I really enjoy the trade off between just plummeting down at break-neck speed, vs being more tactical. The resource management is incorporated very well too.

The only negative I have is that I felt like the level was too wide. If I saw a cool power-up on the other side of the screen, there was really nothing I could do to get to it. This kinda dissuaded me from playing as 'tactically' as I initially thought I was supposed to, it just devolved into me shooting and hoping I didn't happen to run into a mine. I think if the level was only ~7 squares wide, and I could see further down, I would feel much more rewarded for playing tactically. However, this would necessarily make the game less about twitch-based reactions, which may be what you're going for.

Regardless, one of the best I've played so far :)

Greed Weighs you Down by nate_wec 2017-12-08T02:00:50Z

Lots of fun mechanics here like the alarm, breaking glass, and throwing bags. Overall, I really had fun, wish there were more levels!

Shotgun City by Kodiqi 2017-12-06T16:16:05Z

At first I was like 'I can only shoot in 1 direction, what the hell?', but then I picked up another shotgun and I was like 'OOOooohh'. From there, I had a blast.

Very impressive for 5 hours of work. I wonder what it would look like had it been your original idea for the whole weekend. My only legitimate criticism that's reasonable for a 5 hour game is that it starts out too hard. Once you get a couple shotguns, its much more forgiving, but getting the first 3-4 shotguns can be more luck than anything.

Great work!

RiskBreakers by Fahim Faysal 2017-12-07T02:12:30Z

Love the art, it's beautiful. Unfortunately I agree with the other comments about the attack syncing/delays. Kinda felt unresponsive. Still, a good first entry and a lot to built off :)

Woolly Roundup by Criggles 2017-12-06T05:32:23Z

Really liked everything about this. The gameplay was fun, but challenging. The integration of the theme was immediately obvious, but somehow still novel. I was about to give you 'meh' marks for humor, but then a sheep told me I suck, and I lol'd

p.s @criggles, for your tile tearing/seams issue, look at this video by GamesPlusJames (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW53YIjhQsA). The problem basically comes down to the GPU sampling your textures at very small floating point numbers and sometimes not actually sampling the pixel you think it should due to imprecision. The only real way to 100% full-proof it is to 'pad' your sprites 1 pixel in each direction. That vid pre-dates the new Unity Tile Map, but it works just as well. The only weird thing is you'll be making, for example, 34x34 tiles for a '32x32' bit aesthetic. When you import in Unity, you'll have to manually set up the rects for each tile to only be 32x32, ignoring the extra padding, but it will look better, I promise you.

Beer Pong Arcade by banan 2017-12-04T03:27:54Z

Took a while to get into it, but it's quite fun.

I really enjoyed all the aesthetics of it. The graphics and music work together well. I also liked the take on the theme. At first the camera tilt was so subtle, I didn't think it had much affect, but after a while, it was really messing with my shots!

The biggest negative, however, is the difficulty. At first the controls were tough, but I got used to them. Unfortunately, the unforgiving nature of bounces, the cups, and the power slider caused more frustration than I was willing to take after a ~5 minutes. Had fun up until that point though!

Fast Frontier by Ohmi 2017-12-04T15:57:31Z

I really liked this. The hectic nature of controlling the gun angle, gun power, and driving forward/reverse made me feel like I was really in battle.

The art and (especially) sfx are all charming and really fit the game.

The ticket system is interesting, though I'm not sure why you don't allow air-drops if there are enemies around. I once had enough tickets to buy ammo, but ran out of ammo while engaging an enemy (I'm a horrible gunner and it wasted 8 rounds firing over him). I couldn't get more ammo, so I just waited for him to (slowly) kill me.

Minor typo: the first radio tip says "Press A or -> to go left". It should say "D or -> to go right" :)

Tri-Angle by FussenKuh 2017-12-04T18:31:47Z

Great game jam game here. Yea, it's pretty simple, but it has a high level of polish and fits the theme well.

I really enjoyed some of the quality-of-life things like the distance numbers projected in the level, the counter for keeping track of BBs, etc.

I also ended up playing a lot longer than I thought I would. Got a 'good' score (I think) of 211 the first time I played, then saw all the comments here about 260, 238, 326(seriously???) and had to try again. I topped out at 250.58, and got 3 more around 240-250 before giving up. Addictive!

Celestial Stonewall by Mike Marshall 2017-12-07T02:28:28Z

really fun! I enjoyed the pacing and tactical decision making. I liked the logical progression in enemies: slow and straight asteroids -> quicker ships that move a little, but still easy to track ships -> little fast ships (that I sucked at hitting :P ). Nice built in difficulty curve

I have to agree with @mike-cullingham about communicating the money better

Stupid Citizen by Kef 2017-12-04T17:21:15Z

Aesthetically, the game is great. The art is well done and the game has a ton of polish like arrows indicating where unhappy citizens are, and great audio cues for things that need your attention.

Gameplay-wise, it's pretty easy and unbalanced, but that's totally normal for an gamejam game.

Overall, I was really immersed and enjoyed playing it :)

Wasted Space by Happy4488 2017-12-05T19:18:18Z

Great game!

Really good interpretation of the theme. Lots of polish and adorable art/sound. The ship upgrades are really cool and surprising for LD game.

I agree that it is too hard though.

My Nuts Weigh Me Down by Slyddar 2017-12-08T00:44:41Z

Loved it. Surprisingly tactical with the ability to throw nuts to kill foxes, but have them be lost forever.

Lots of cool things going on like the fox AI, the dead bodies from previous runs, etc.

Art is great in a cartoony way, and the sfx are good. Unfortunately, I didn't really think the music fit.

One of my favorites so far

BirdBrain by CosmicCrystalGames 2017-12-09T15:59:14Z

Saw this on Screenshot Saturday on r/gamedev and couldn't believe it was made for LD40. So much content and polish for a jam. awesome job.

I really like the flappy bird meets mario part of this. I'm not sure I've ever seen it done, and it really changes how the platforming feels.

I only saw the first 2, but the boss fights were really cool. I died once on each, then beat them, which seems perfect to me. I'm sure the later ones are even harder.

The theme integration is cool too. Definitely a risk-reward thing going on for carrying ammo.

My only real problem is I didn't like the down-bounce thing at all. I tried using it to go through enemies in narrow vertical passages, but would end up bouncing off them, take no damage, but end up back where I started. It seemed like I *had* to take damage to get past them. In other instances, I'd use the down-bounce just to speed up falling to the bottom of a vertical passage, but the resulting bounce put me too high to go into the connecting horizontal corridor. I'd have to waste time waiting to float down to the ground naturally before continuing on, so I shouldn't have bounced in the first place.

It also took me to the 3rd level to realize that shooting enemies gave a slight chance to drop health power ups, which were desperately needed. If that was explained in the tutorial, I missed it. In general, I just avoided enemies rather than shoot them because I didn't think there was any reward.

Still, amazing game for a jam. Congrats!

Fatigue Blade by Clayton Schuyler 2017-12-04T04:55:26Z

Great first submission!

Nailed the theme, I love the feeling of living on the edge with low stamina.

The enemy variety is surprisingly good for 48 hours.

My only complaint (and this could be me) is I don't really understand the point of the dodge: it moves you forward, which is usually towards damage, and it seems kinda inconsistent in it's range. I just stopped using it.

Overall, very fun and enjoyable.

Amazing! That mechanic is super novel. Definitely blew my mind a few times when I realized I had to take pictures of batteries, after moving batteries, in order to multiply the total number of batteries.

The art and audio are simple but super effective. Great job!

Reasonable Claustrophobia by SkullPixel 2018-08-14T19:02:59Z

My favorite game so far! Everything is great. The lack of a jump is such an unnatural feeling at first, but it makes the game so unique and strategic. Clearing a level (after dying 10 times figuring out where not to shoot the walls) felt super rewarding. Great audio and graphics too, but the best part is the main mechanic and level design. Just great all around

Full Stack Combat by RetroSpecter 2018-08-14T03:01:22Z

really fun! I Love RPGs and am amazed at how much you crammed into a compo game! The basic mechanic is really fun and intuitive. I'd love to see this fleshed out in a post-jam version

Pineapple Run by yscik 2018-08-15T16:37:01Z

This was a lot of fun! The shooting was very juicy and felt powerful. The art and sound were pretty minimal, but they worked well together. Good job!

Magic Cam by Marcel Egle 2018-08-14T14:48:32Z

I really like the concept of this. More than any other game I've played so far, this one really made me feel like I was "running out of space". I really had to be diligent about deleting pics of frozen enemies, or else I'd get mobbed and die. Awesome work!

Character Assassin by ReboundGames 2018-08-14T16:04:25Z

This was fun! It got pretty hard when the possible targets became more similar. The space constraint required us to come up with a short-hand for describing the target; very emergent! Nice work!

Huke by Hegemege 2018-08-13T17:20:16Z

Really fun concept. Made me feel like Spiderman! I really enjoyed just the visceral feeling of swinging around trying to pick up momentum.

Unfortunately, I couldn't really figure out how to get to the door on the 3rd (or 4th?) level. It seemed like there were no grappleable surfaces that would get me there. I probably just suck though!

I also wish the death effect was a little faster. Because there is a delay, I sometimes didn't realize I was hit by an enemy right away and didn't know why I died.

Still, really fun, and I definitely felt like I was running out of space!

Follow Line by mukult 2018-08-13T17:51:12Z

Overall I really like the concept. I definitely felt like I was 'running out of space' at all times. The procedural line drawing is very neat and keeps me trying to anticipate what is coming (usually to my doom).

My only criticism is I felt like the hitboxes on some of the enemies were very unforgiving (or maybe they are just too big). Like I had to be perfect in my timing, or I'd die.

I definitely played a lot longer than I initially set out to because I kept getting that 'just one more play' itch. Great job!

Get Outer Space! by Nick Rafalski 2018-08-13T19:41:38Z

@mcccclean Wow thanks for the compliments, and thanks for playing!

@tuscany Whoops you are totally right about the fullscreen thing. I removed the button on itch.io now.

@speedysloth99 Thanks so much for the feedback and praise! I generally agree with your feelings about control. While I thought the physics twist on Tetris was fun, I also wanted to make the pieces 'lock' into position once they stopped moving and were aligned together. This would make it much easier for the player to make use of the space. Unfortunately it was beyond my abilities, especially given the time crunch, so I had to drop it. Thanks again for playing!

Get Outer Space! by Nick Rafalski 2018-08-14T12:56:27Z

@drunkardwolf Thanks for the kind words! I can definitely see what you mean about the slippery controls. I always have a tough time tuning controls because, as the dev, you get used to them, but don't realize how awkward they might feel to new users. Thanks for the feedback!

@shellbot 39 is really good! My all time high is 69, but most runs end in the 20s, ha! Thanks for the compliments!

@ossi Wow thanks for the praise. I definitely wanted to add a ramp-up period to the difficulty, but I ran out of time. Thanks for sticking with it long enough to get used to it :) Thanks for playing!

@mukult I definitely wanted to add a ramp-up period to the beginning, but I ran out of time. Thanks for persevering and not rage-quitting! Thanks for the feedback, and all the kind words, it's super motivating.

Get Outer Space! by Nick Rafalski 2018-08-16T02:50:16Z

@skyrex @awix @c0nst4ntin @artbohr Thank you all so much for the feedback and compliments!

@jackou I definitely agree about it being overwhelming at first. I wish I had budgeted my time better and added a ramp-up period. Thanks for the feedback and kind words!

@gwinnell I take "The strangest of all the games played so far" as a huge compliment! Your criticsms are spot-on. I had to go back and look, but for some reason I'm spawning the asteroids from a different place than the stars and gold/armor pickups -- not sure why I did that! Thanks for playing

@phlip45 60 is a great score! I really really like your idea for a snap-to-grid mechanism. I had the initial thought to make it grid aligned, but couldn't come up with a reward for completing a line like Tetris (I rationalized that I'd have to remove the line, and therefore, your score would go down). Compacting the blocks, and giving a score bonus is so simple but elegant. Thanks for playing and the kind words!

Get Outer Space! by Nick Rafalski 2018-08-16T15:48:20Z

@afroant Wow thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the mechanic!

@gajop Yea it's basically just a high-score chaser (without even keeping track of your high-score, whoops!). I would have liked to flesh it out with more of a sense of progression, but it wasn't in the scope. Thanks for playing and the compliments!

@shp Yea I totally hear you on the controls. Some people seem okay with them, but I can definitely see how they're too sensitive. I probably should have added a sensitivity slider, but I ran out of time. Thanks for playing and the feedback!

Get Outer Space! by Nick Rafalski 2018-08-17T12:49:01Z

@rustycrow The effect on the screen is part bloom and part lens distortion. Both are super easy to implement in Unity via the PostProcessing stack, which is a serious of components you can add to your camera/scene. No coding required. Under the hood, the effects are implemented in shaders, but Unity abstracts that away in an easy to use, configurable, component. As for the bug, you should never not be allowed to drag the items. I wonder if the webGL build glitched out or something. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to play, and thanks for the feedback!

Get Outer Space! by Nick Rafalski 2018-08-19T00:46:06Z

@2bam Wow thanks for the great feedback! I totally hear you about the bonus for having so much gold. The truth is the game is very shallow (52 is a great score, and most people don't get that far haha) and I'd have loved to add some of those bonuses, but ran out of time. Thanks for playing and the compliments. Glad I could make something you seemed to enjoy :)

There is Never Enough Space!!! by Jamie Rollo 2018-08-14T16:31:40Z

What a beautiful game! I absolutely adore the artwork and graphical polish. Even the screen transitions are super nice.

The mini-games are all cool, and so diverse! Nice job!

Beat These Games! by gamesplusjames 2018-08-14T02:37:29Z

Really fun collection of mini-games here. I think the difficulty was just right, and the graphics were cute and cohesive. Nice job!

Grid Locked by DrunkardWolf 2018-08-13T18:01:14Z

Wow this is a really polished entry! The shooting felt/looked/sounded awesome.

I had 1 round where on just my 2nd hit of damage, the tile underneath me fell out and I couldn't get away fast enough. Idk if there is a predefined order to tiles dropping, or if it's random, but it felt kinda unfair.

Overall, still a really fun addictive game that has a ton of polish!

Quickshot Yellow: The Quest for Green Flags by Phlip45 2018-08-15T03:01:57Z

Great game! Some of the puzzles were super tricky. I love the concept of having to turn down accepting an ability, wait on top of it a turn, then swap out the wait for the new ability. Gave me a 'mind blown' moment for sure.

The audio was also really cool, and fit the pixel-art vibe. Great job!

STEP by ArBe 2018-08-13T17:38:26Z

Took me way too long to actually understand how to play, but once I did, I had a blast. One of the levels (3?) had me stumped for way too long until I realized there was a 'less obvious' path that was the key. That's some great puzzle design right there.

Also, the graphics and polish are great. The game reads very easy while being very minimal. My only criticism is that, like others, I had to turn the volume down a bunch.

Too Many Boxes by Silvae 2018-08-15T02:25:27Z

This is cool! It's probably the game where I felt the most "running out of space" of all the games I've played so far. I love the strategy (and failure!) of deciding if I could start a new stack of boxes further away, or if I should just crowd myself near the conveyor belt. It get's super chaotic (in a good way) when the belt speeds up and you have basically boxed yourself in!

Unfortunately, I have to agree with others about the controls being kinda wonky. It seemed like I was allowed to pickup and stack boxes when they were red, but maybe I was misunderstanding that visual feedback? Also, the character movement was kinda sluggish and unresponsive.

Still, a really fun game, and one of the best realizations of the theme I've played! Nice job!

Deep Heat by gwinnell 2018-08-16T03:05:31Z

Per usual, you delivered a super polished and solid entry! This one is probably my favorite of your last 3. The mechanism is familiar, but subtly unique. I like lobbing the fire to a specific spot rather than just shooting in a straight line. The upgrades are always fun and give a ton of depth to a simple mechanism. As usual, the art and sound are great and fit together great.

Literally my only criticism, that somebody else mentioned, is running into the ladder and not being able to collect all the coins. I'm not even sure how you'd solve it without ruining the game flow, but it was kinda annoying.

Great game!

Foto 5 by wavertron 2018-08-14T16:01:42Z

Loved it! The game is simple, but it's really fun. Between the art and audio, the aesthetic is really cohesive and cute. The "Bigfoot!" sound effect is priceless. Great job!

Space Race by Raziyya 2018-08-18T11:51:02Z

This is a great game! I really like the aesthetics: they're simple, but engaging and cohesive. I do agree with some others that the bullets are too hard to see though. I also really like how slowly the first few levels go. It gives you a chance to experiment and learn the mechanics. Expanding this with powerups/abilities as others have said would be awesome! Nice job

Alternating Space by StateOff 2018-08-14T02:57:07Z

This was fun! I usually don't like puzzle games, but I enjoyed this a lot. The aesthetic was very minimal, but cohesive. Nice job!

Lost in deep space by mgsx 2018-08-14T13:19:50Z

One of my favorites I've played so far! It's just a super solid game: the goal is easy to understand, the difficulty ramps up perfectly, the aesthetic is cohesive and easy to read. Very nice.

Some random things that were really cool: the intro/outro scenes, the death animation, the movement scheme (felt weird at first, but had a nice predictability to it after I got used to it)

My one nitpick is that it's kinda hard to be aware of how much air/gas you have because they're just numbers off to the left side, while your attention is always at the right side of the screen. Some graphical representation like bars, closer to the player's focus, would be an improvement I think.

Still, this was really fun, and I had to play it till I beat it!

Pre Alpha Build by PlusMinus 2018-08-15T13:47:03Z

Very fun and innovative game! I didn't even know the labratory got used for upgrades until I played and came back to read the comments, so I had to play again.

Totally a great use of the theme, and the fact that the buildings are randomized (so you can't really develop a perfect strategy over multiple games) is brilliant.

Great job!

Space Escape by FelipeDev 2018-08-16T12:37:50Z

Very pretty game! the concept is simple, but well executed. I died a lot, but the quick pace of respawning made it pretty forgiving. Very nice!

Falling Ecosystem by sprvrn 2018-08-17T02:08:02Z

Very concise and polished sim/management game. I'm always amazed when somebody can pull one of these off for LD and keep it relatively balanced and compelling, without being overly complicated and confusing. You did all of that very well! Almost as an after thought, the art and sound are cute and lovely. One of the best games I've played!

Dungeon Faller by nicksmaddog 2018-08-16T03:53:49Z

Great concept! I really like the idea of having consequences for shooting so the player doesn't just spam shooting as much as possible. A great take on the theme! however, I have to agree with the others about the hitboxes, and the fact that shooting while moving forward is basically suicide. Still a fun game and a great concept! Nice job!

Spider tank by Blight Radiance 2018-08-13T20:16:59Z

Very fun and complex game! Definitely nails down the theme, especially when you have shot up half the board trying to get to a ranged enemy and now you don't know how you'll reach him!

I saw the influence of Into the Breach immediately and think this would make a perfect '-lite' version of that game, more suitable to quick play sessions.

Very nice!

Book Crook! by Ossi 2018-08-16T01:23:05Z

I liked it! The random names are really delightful and made the experience for me. The music is also simple, but very pleasing.

Popcorn Mayhem by Cary Stanley 2018-08-16T03:15:27Z

Too hard for me! couldn't beat the third level, but I really enjoyed the concept. Rating games, I hadn't seen as many literal takes on 'running out of space', but this definitely fits the bill. Even though I died 20 times on level 2, I laughed every time. Great job

Space Runner by Guilhermoni 2018-08-14T14:02:49Z

Super cool game! The art is beautiful and the combination of exploration and in-game UI make it really immersive. I felt like gravity shift when getting near a planet was too jarring though -- made it very hard to stay in control.

Overall, a really awesome unique game!

Claustrophobia by deformhead 2018-08-16T12:36:26Z

Beautiful game in both art and mechanics. At first I wasn't sure if I enjoyed the trial by error method of determining enemy movements, but the game loop is so fast that its not frustrating at all. Very nice!

SpaceRunner by jackou 2018-08-14T13:45:51Z

Wow this is a super polished platformer for 48 hours. The art/audio is great, and the mechanics are very cohesive. I really loved the feeling of timing a jump just perfect so I didn't have to waste a jetpack charge. The limited number of jetpack charges made me feel like I was living on the edge at all times (in a good way!).

Very nice!

Box Me Up by RustyCrow 2018-08-16T03:46:11Z

This was a lot of fun! Trying to stay on top of the boxes made for a very frantic and compelling experience. While you may not have gotten everything done that you set out to, you did manage to make a complete, fun, game. So good job on prioritizing correctly to get that done. Nice job!

A Way Out by sdrrv 2018-08-17T01:49:28Z

This was great, especially for a first game! Bravo! I really liked the feeling of the wall closing in. It was very ominous and nerve wracking; fit the theme perfectly. My only gripe is that, sometimes, it felt like the character is too slow to really dodge the red things. Overall, great game!

Last Shot by jeke 2018-08-14T18:42:29Z

This was very creative! I have played many of these 'gravity puzzle' games, but this had some nice twists like the asteroids moving around and the black holes getting bigger (even eating whole planets!)

I didn't hear any audio, but you didn't opt-out of the category, so I'm not sure if I was supposed to hear any, or what.

Great job!

Utter Space by snakemuho 2018-08-16T03:33:56Z

This is great for a first complete game! You bit off a very manageable amount of scope, and polished it up nicely! The shooting feels satisfying, and the art and sound are great. Very nice job!

Feed cats by Noini 2018-08-14T13:06:56Z

Congrats on making a cohesive game in 48 hours! I really enjoyed the concept of not being able to directly control anything. Also, I really liked the cat graphics! Good job!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Scrap Shot by ninja00283 2018-12-03T17:16:08Z

This is a really deep game for 48 hours! It's like a mini-FTL with a unique spin. I loved it!

Escape of the Cheese Droid by dob 2018-12-03T22:58:16Z

This was super funny and clever. I really liked the random movement and malfunctions when losing the head. I also really liked how I could disable the door by just colliding with the switch, rather than shooting. That made it fesaible to sacrifice the gun early. I agree with @derek-volker that it's too hard overall. I only made it to the 3rd or 4th dome before giving up. Still, a really cool clever game that is made well :)

Sidegrade by ReiMari 2018-12-06T02:14:40Z

Very juicy and good-feeling game! Once I got the rate-of-fire upgraded a few times, I felt a little overpowered, but it was still really fun. The music and effects really boosted the overall presentation

Space Inhalers by boddiul 2018-12-03T22:47:08Z

Great game! I really like having to balance picking up people with shooting aliens. The art and sound and controls are all top-notch and make this feel like a non-game-jam-game. My only gripe with it is that it was hard to understand exactly what collides with what. Sometimes I could fire humans through buildings, other times, they got blocked (or maybe only on the building 'supports'?). Same with the enemy projectiles. Still, a really fun, creative, well put together game!

Perilous Passage by Nick Rafalski 2018-12-03T20:25:25Z

@codekim Thanks for the feedback! I agree the bridge collision could be improved a lot. Glad you had fun!

@nik2434, @john-gabriel, @slizzben Thanks so much for the compliments!

@mrnyarlathotep Thank you so much for the encouragement, especially on the graphics. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

@erendelous I'm glad you found the core mechanic novel! I always try to do something different for LD, and this, while very simple, felt pretty unique to me :)

@dougdevs Pretty close! I dropped some random objects into a pot full of water to get the various splash sounds. Thanks for the compliments!

Perilous Passage by Nick Rafalski 2018-12-06T03:43:04Z

@dob I'm really sorry to hear you couldn't get it to work! Its a Unity WebGL game, so I'm curious if other games like it are failing for you, or if it's something about my game specifically. I know the Unity's WebGL export is rather heavy in terms of resources requirements (even for a basic game like this).

@tasakasama @dzuvan @captain-tyx @toulou @mgoadric Thank you all for the kind words and taking the time to leave feedback!

@gwinnell Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad you like the goofy physics. I actually implemented a much more discrete movement scheme for the bridges where they would snap to 1 of 3 spots, and it was much easier to line up with the cars (thus less near misses). It was okay, and generally easier to score high, but lacked something. I turned it off, and realized the more fluid movement made it much sillier and fun. I'm really enjoying checking out your LD offerings each event. Going 3D definitely had it's share of bumps and bruises for me, but your games are so polished and well made already that I'm sure you could succeed.

Perilous Passage by Nick Rafalski 2018-12-07T02:08:50Z

@hystaf @yyam @call-me-nutty @jandourek Thank you all so much for the compliments and feedback!

@sokette 40 is pretty good! I just uploaded an Android port if that is more your style. I think it's actually pretty fun on a touchscreen! Thanks for the compliments!

@me-fame-u-game Thanks for the kind words! I'm definitely going to try to develop my 3D skills and get better for next LD. I've got tons to learn!

Perilous Passage by Nick Rafalski 2018-12-08T15:03:21Z

@antti-tiihonen @myfriendtames @rsim Thank you all for the kind words and feedback!

Perilous Passage by Nick Rafalski 2018-12-08T20:57:13Z

@benburgh I totally agree that it can be hard to line up the bridges without visual aids. I actually had some dashed lane dividers textured into the bridges at first, but they were super uneven and out of scale, so I removed them. Roads were also on the todo list, but didn't make the cut. Thanks for the feedback, and for the compliments :)

Sacrifice Pit by folex70 2018-12-03T03:46:27Z

Nice entry! I like the graphics and the mood they create. I think the take on the theme is good. I wish the controls weren't so floaty because it makes it hard to really get into the platforming. Overall, good job!

Escape from Scrapville by dusho 2018-12-03T23:05:31Z

Very good looking and feeling game. The movement and aiming all felt effortless and the graphical presentation was very clean and readable. The main mechanic definitely fits the bill for the theme, and was pretty novel to boot. Overall a very good Ludum Dare game!

Altitude Sickness by Antti Tiihonen 2018-12-07T15:11:46Z

Wow that is hands down one of the most unique and cool mechanics I've seen in my 5 Ludum Dares! And it feels so solid and polished! I honestly kept waiting for it to get buggy/glitchy or feel awkward. It never did. The Audio of the game is also very subtly impressive. Nice game!

Ludum Dare Simulator by Hempuli 2018-12-06T04:26:39Z

This was so cool. Somehow I got 3rd with most categories being less than 1 star, but hey, that's LD for you. Great innovation

Pirates may Cry by themarioga 2018-12-06T18:21:49Z

Nice art and music! I really like the concept of the game. I could definitely see this expanded with a progression & exploration system like FTL and maybe some upgrades. Cool game!

Farm to Table by mrspeaker 2018-12-03T23:34:37Z

This was cool! There didn't seem to be a score(?) but I played one round for a long while before I ran out of bodies. I really like that you need to balance the needs of the company to stay a float. Cool game!

A boat trip to remember by jandourek 2018-12-05T02:30:16Z

I really like the novelty behind this! The idea is very unique and silly but cool at the same time. Unfortunately, I think the selecting letters for items phase takes too long. I couldn't stand to replay it more than twice. It was fun to try to come up with a scheme to remember all the items!

En Passant by Paul Nadan 2018-12-04T17:11:41Z

I don't know if my game computer was running the game too fast or what, but I'm not sure how I was supposed to kill the 2 Rooks coming after me. I could kill the first one, but with 0 space between them, I didn't have time to jump and attack the second one. I edited the level file and put 1 space between them, and I could beat it that way.

Overall, I think this is an awesome concept. All the pieces' moves are translated very well and still recognizable.

The kings little quips after each death that seemed to be informed by the way you died (too slow, too fast) were a nice touch :)

Samurai's Legacy by Simone 2018-12-06T19:52:54Z

Great game! I loved how the controls were very forgiving and the hitboxes for the ledges were big. The concept is also very well executed. I've played a few similar games where you need to die and use your corpse to advance in the level, but this one is probably the best implementation of the mechanic. The music and art are both very cute as well :)

Aetherspirit by gwinnell 2018-12-06T03:30:31Z

Great game! Your games' controls are always so tight and good feeling, especially for 48h. This time you did it with 6 different characters! The level design was very interesting. Took me longer than I want to admit to figure dout how to get the last diamond. The only thing I'm confused about is the green guy. I never unlocked him but I beat the game? I saw some portion of the map to the left and below that looked intentionally designed, but I never needed to traverse. Was he a feature that got scrapped? Regardless, a really fun game that I would love to see more of.

Life in the Trenches by meskaline 2018-12-06T14:20:17Z

Cool game! I really liked the slow pace. Gave me enough time to read the questions and think about them without being overwhelmed by the oncoming enemies. The art and music were great.

Space Virgins... In Space by FussenKuh 2018-12-03T03:35:45Z

Very Polished! I liked all the visual feedback and sound effects. The gameplay is pretty simple but also surprisingly deep, i.e as understanding how to utilize and control the virgin-whip effectively.

Sacrifices must be made by TasakaSama 2018-12-03T22:31:22Z

I liked this a lot! The variety in characters is good and the theme is very well integrated. The graphics are minimalist but very readable and cohesive. My only gripe is that not being able to control the character once in the air makes for a very tedious and frustrating platformer. Good job!

Downgrade by Vasco Freitas 2018-12-03T04:33:26Z

Very nice game! The overall feel and polish are very high. I really did feel like I was making sacrifices to survive! I had to lean more on maneuverability than raw firepower to stay alive. Unfortunately, right as I killed the last alien, the browser window seemed to hang indefinitely, so I'm not even sure if there is more after killing the first 'wave' but I had a ton of fun regardless!

Blueberry Bounce by Ian Kettlewell 2018-12-03T18:06:55Z

Funniest game I've played so far. Also just really fun. Getting the bouncing right feels really rewarding and the physics are very reliable, which makes it frustration-free. I definitely agree with others about the fun of moving the bouncers around in real-time, though that isn't as effective in the later levels where you need to satisfy so many demons before the path is clear. My only criticism is that I wish I could speed up or click-through the dialogue faster. Great game!

Mudul's Trial by Kanacell 2018-12-05T02:42:21Z

Great work! a ton of polish for a gamejam game. I really was feeling the sacrifices as the game progressed.

Manned Missile Master by Capital-Asterisk 2018-12-05T02:08:35Z

Nice game! I really like the graphics and audio. The writing is also funny. The 3-axis movement is actually really easy to get the hang of, and not too slide-y which I see a lot. My only gripe is that the hitboxes on the targets and some of the obstacles seemed too unforgiving. In reality, they were probably 100% accurate, which is nice, but it was frustrating to feel like I made it through a 'rocket shaped hole', only to clip it by a millimeter. Still, very nicely done

Noah's mARK II by Arthur Baars 2018-12-05T02:23:00Z

fun little game! I enjoyed the balancing act of keeping enough men to fire fast, but also not slow down. Definitely fits the theme. The graphics are very nice

Offshoot by Owen Rees 2018-12-06T04:13:07Z

This is so cool! I love how all the weapons affect your ability to move as well as (obviously) kill things. The fact that it randomizes what limbs they spawn on is even cooler. The enemies delayed weapon is actually really cool and rewards the player for learning to avoid it. The art is kinda basic but I honestly think it's adorable. The shotgun pumping and gattling gun rotating animations are awesome. Great entry!

The Chosen Sheep by Ellenack 2018-12-05T02:52:54Z

This was way more fun that I was expecting. All the audio and visual feedback make for a really juicy game, particularly for a jam. It seems like you went for a smaller scope with great polish, and you definitely delivered.

Brick Climb by Funkyjive 2018-12-03T03:38:29Z

Nice game! It kinda feels like playing a game of speed-chess against a timer. I can definitely see potential for expanding the mechanics too. I found the slow bomb-diffusing 'robot' to be the most reliable, even if he was slow. Definitely felt like sacrificing my other 2 pretty early and often.

Eskate Death by DougDevs 2018-12-03T17:49:48Z

Haha that was awesome! It had a really nice feel to it too once you understood how it's meant to be played. I agree that hitting an upward ramp and losing 95% of your momentum felt a little lame, but it definitely felt cool to get in the groove and put some distance between you and the orca! Loved it

Atomic Lifetime by Kaish 2018-12-06T03:50:59Z

Very cute game. I like the atomic theme and how everything was well incorporated into it. I also appreciate the variety of powerups you were able to add. Very cool :)

Bubble Trouble by dzuvan 2018-12-03T17:27:08Z

Very charming! I found the jump a little hard to get used to, but I eventually beat the game. I like the story :)

Shooting Chickens by PxLucasF 2018-12-03T23:23:56Z

Very cute game. I agree with @scarfdev that there is no real challenge though. I like the backgrounds and the music though!

Passage Home by Fnissalot 2018-12-03T17:43:03Z

Great little game with a great atmosphere! It got a lot easier when I realized the mountains aren't obstacles to be avoided :P Very cool chill game!

A Key Sacrifice by CalLavicka 2018-12-07T02:19:17Z

haha this was wild. I didn't think it would be very fun but it turned out to be quite enjoyable in a sadistic way. Great concept!

The Greater Evil by AndyGates01 2018-12-03T23:19:00Z

This game has an awesome mood. The graphics and audio go really well together. The rock guitar is so simple but effective. The platforming mechanics were pretty good, especially compared to some others I've seen in LD. I'm glad @glimaleite pointed out the especially difficult jump on the second screen, because I totally thought the same. Overall, the game is one of my tops so far!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Daybreak Inn by Joror 2019-05-16T01:24:20Z

awesome awesome game! Everything is so good. I love the whole concept of the game, and it's complexity is really impressive for for a gamejam game. My only issues/question is if the undertaker was supposed to be assignable to quests? Because I was never able to give him one.

Blood Money by Imphenzia 2019-05-18T04:10:56Z

This was really fun! You nailed the feeling of shooting with all the visual and audio feedback; super juicy! The difficulty curved seemed pretty well tuned, at least for me. I made it to 213 seconds on my second run and I felt like I was just getting the hang of things as the bigger and faster ships picked up. It was never particularly easy or overly hard. Finally, I really like the textures! I never would have figured out they were the dash of your car!

Shop till you drop DEAD by IcyLava 2019-04-29T19:10:25Z

This was a very juicy and good feeling game! I found it overly difficult to line up a shot on the quick moving enemies, but otherwise all the mechanics seemed really well executed. The theme is well incorporated and makes for some tough choices between health and ammo

Space Struggle by meursault 2019-05-02T02:57:26Z

I really really liked this. Just about everything was awesome: graphics, audio, theme. I love the random events and the simple but effective battle system. I feel like scanning was kinda the red-headed step child of the stats so I sold that at every opportunity, but maybe I didn't appreciate its value. I managed to beat the game on my 3rd play through which I think is just about right for a LD game. Bravo!

SimuCorp by Nick Rafalski 2019-05-01T13:26:32Z

@maniae @owlycode @faiorb Thank you all for playing and for the feedback. It is so helpful and appreciated

@teemu-pulkkinen I haven't actually seen that bug myself, but I have no problem believing it exists. The whole multi-story feature was added in the last hour of the compo. Thanks for playing!

@toasteater Thanks for the compliments! After playing the game myself more after the compo, I totally agree with you regarding running in the background. I actually intentionally disabled it in the Unity player settings, but I don't really know why.

@icylava Thanks for playing! I wanted to add the ability to remove stuff, but time got away from me.

@tater-hater Thanks so much for the compliments! This was definitely my most ambitious LD game so far, and I definitely put more effort into the small details as you say, rather than actually making it 'fun', so I'm glad you appreciate it :)

@johanhelsing You definitely found the 'optimal' strategy with all meeting areas and arcades. I wish the balance of the whole game was better, and that there was an actual end, but those things all slipped away as I spent too much time on other features. Thanks for the kind words and for playing!

SimuCorp by Nick Rafalski 2019-05-01T18:55:28Z

@tamail Thanks so much for all the praise! It's so motivating to hear people like your game. You did *not* miss the feature to sell things; I wish I had time to implement that. And you are right that the game is pretty easy, especially if you randomly get high-quality/lower-salary employees at the start. The difficulty is definitely too dependent on the random number generation, but it was the best I could manage in 48hours. Glad you enjoyed it so much still :)

@phillserrazina Thanks so much for the kind words! You're right about not being able to sell stuff; I wanted to add that feature, but never got around to it. Thanks for playing :)

SimuCorp by Nick Rafalski 2019-05-02T12:59:10Z

@jiri-hysek @ant3331000 @cheesepencil Thanks a lot for the feedback and compliments :) They are very motivating.

@baby-dino-herd Thanks for the positive feedback on the UI. It was really an area of focus because I know nobody has time to figure out an unintuitive UI when rating game jam games. Thanks for the kind words

@liauj haha I would love some arcade machines at work IRL too! Thanks for playing :)

SimuCorp by Nick Rafalski 2019-05-03T17:22:53Z

@oivin-f Thanks for playing and the feedback :)

@vinay-rao Thanks so much for the compliments! I love your idea about adding some more micro-managing tasks to the game; I agree it can be slow at some times. And I'm ecstatic to have evoked a pleasant memory for you. That is what game making is all about :)

SimuCorp by Nick Rafalski 2019-05-06T02:56:35Z

@datagreed Thanks for all the feedback! "Spots" is how many employees can be using an item at the same time. This is mentioned on the LD page, but nowhere in game unfortunately. You should be able to read the item descriptions by clicking their icon, then hitting the "Cancel" button that appears if you don't want to place it (it won't cost you $). I can definitely see how that's un-intuitive and clunky though. Finally, you are the second or third person to mention being able to hire somebody to a non-existent floor. I haven't been able to reproduce it myself, but it's pretty funny to see a screen shot! Hopefully you could still fire him and the you were no worse for ware? Again, thanks for playing and all the feedback :)

DINTE by salyon 2019-04-29T12:21:06Z

Very polished! The art is really impressive for 48hs. I really like how the different power-ups change how you can beat levels. A small twist on a classic genre.

Keep Life Alive by Koen Bresters 2019-05-20T02:38:51Z

I really liked this! The theme is integrated very well and the game has just enough depth to be interesting, but not overwhelming. The art is definitely 'minimal' but it gets the job done. The sound is great!

Flash Dash Dungeon by Raymoclaus 2019-05-02T03:06:10Z

This is an awesome implementation of the theme. I really had some tough choices like adding more time NOW but sacrifice maximum time later. The pixel art is very cohesive and the whole game feels very solid. My only issue is that attacking seemed very sub-optimal since killing enemies doesn't benefit you in any way (unless I missed it). Better to just rush through every level and avoid them. Still, I really liked this!

The Gold Digger by Jiri Hysek 2019-05-02T01:33:53Z

Great puzzles, great mechanic, and great take on the theme. Really nice job!

PizzoTyping by Carpin 2019-05-01T16:44:58Z

This was really surprisingly fun! The whole presentation from the music to the art to the animation is really well done. The difficulty curve was a little slow, but that is better than too fast for game jam game. My only real complaint is that getting the same word 2 (or 3!) times in a row is a little awkward to deal with. It's not so obvious when it changes because you think you might still be typing the last letter of the previous word, but the game has actually moved onto the first letter of the second word (same word in this case). Still very fun!

Shark Turf by Gus the Shark 2019-05-01T01:14:44Z

this is really cool! I enjoyed eating fish and chasing away fisherman more than actually cleaning up the trash, but I still had to beat the game on easy and hard. The controls are really solid (not true for a lot of underwater games) and the whole game is well executed. Nice job!

War Crimes by Oivin F 2019-05-02T16:42:21Z

Tank controls are solid and the whole game feels complete. The upgrades are fun and the UI is intuitive if simple. I kinda wish the whole experience was a little more arcade-y (faster tanks, bigger hitboxes, more bullets) because the art style seems to evoke that, but it was still fun. Great job!

Zombieton by Norris Eldridge 2019-04-30T23:33:30Z

The music is great! I also appreciate the polish put into the UI. The little notifications in the upper right when you buy something are nice. Agree with others that the game is a little incomplete, but it was fun for what it was. Nice job!

Blood Debt by Maniae 2019-04-29T19:21:08Z

Pretty fun game. I like how the enemies are slightly randomized so you can't just memorize a pattern to win. I agree with @twobythree that the life-debt mechanic is not very obvious at first. I made it to room 4 eventually though. Nice job!

Memories of a Captain by OwlyCode 2019-04-29T19:29:46Z

This is a super polished game for 48 hours! I like the little details like the asteroids being less dense at the start of a segment so you can read the story text. Speaking of which, the story is very good. I'm not sure if it was just my monitor, but I found the overall scene to be very dark which made seeing the asteroids hard to see. Overall it was still a really fun and well made game

Bloodlust by Danga 2019-04-30T02:10:41Z

I've done 6 Ludum Dares and this is the simply the funnest game I've played among them. I seriously played for almost an hour. I can routinely get to the 5th/6th wave but never beaten 6. It just is a great feeling experience. I tried multiple strategies (overload on speed, overload on stamina, overload on HP, balance speed and stamina) they all had their pros and cons and I never really decided 1 was optimal. Wow this is just great. Makes me want to make a game similar to it and see if I can replicate the feeling.

Blood Money by kristinamay 2019-04-30T20:37:17Z

The writing is really excellent, and the theme incorporation is perfect. Nice job!

SpellQuest by TheMuffinMan314 2019-05-11T17:21:32Z

I really like the physical swinging of the mouse necessary to swing the sword. I agree with others that it would be more fun if it were faster. The vfx are great and bring a lot of depth to the otherwise simple models. The music and atmosphere are very spooky. Nice job!

Contract Cleric by Vinay Rao 2019-05-03T01:22:08Z

I liked this for what it was. The MMO-style combat was well done and I liked how different all the abilities were. There was definitely a specific use for each one, and you had to manage their cooldowns to last. I wish there was more visual feedback about how an ability worked/landed. I didn't realize I had to hold ability #2 to charge it at first and didn't know why it was doing 0 healing. The art is cute, and the animations work. Nice job!

Till Breath Do Us Part by DataGreed 2019-05-06T03:04:56Z

Lots of good things going on here. The shop is good, the enemy AI gets tougher as the game goes, the shooting isn't sexy but feels good. I wish there was a better indicator of how much time was left other than just a count down. I frequently ran out of time without noticing. Still, a fun game :)

The Oarsman by SefrZ 2019-04-30T03:11:04Z

This was a fun little platformer. The aim-able dash combined with jump is something I don't think I've seen before. It really opens up the possibilities as far as how you can navigate the levels. I liked the art and the audio; they set the mood well. The level design is pretty good, but a little unintuitive at times. Definitely good enough for a game jam game. Nice job!

The Preying Salmon by SpacialSeasoning 2019-05-18T16:42:46Z

This game is pretty rough around the edges, but it's very impressive to have written from scratch in 72 hours! The inventory and hotbar systems work quite well. I wish there was a little more visual feedback on where my bullets were going. Nice job!

Kill The Money by Copper_Aardvark_Games 2019-05-07T17:18:46Z

This was a lot of fun. The gun play is a little slow, but I actually prefer that to super twitch-based shooting in some games in this genre. The graphics are really cute and cohesive. I really like how the turret's have an obvious warning animation so avoiding damage is easy to learn. Nicely done!

Demon Apprentice by c0d3d 2019-04-30T02:38:22Z

I agree with some others that this game really needed a background image to give you a point of reference when you're moving. Otherwise, the game is pretty cool. Swing the weapon around is a really neat feeling that works pretty well. Nice job

Cards of Life by mapleglaze 2019-04-30T02:52:58Z

As silly as this is, the card flipping animation is well implemented. I also appreciate that the AI seems to make match *most* of the time when there is an obvious one, but no 100%. It was believable. Unfortunate that you couldn't complete the game, but it's still a good Concentration implementation

LifeShot by kuviman 2019-04-30T02:19:36Z

At first I thought I had to eliminate all the enemies to clear a wave, and that was seriously frustrating. Then I realized that I could just survive the time, and it became a lot more chill of an experience. Basically agar.io without the craziness. The music and visuals really play to this too. Very unique!

Breaker by Hasuman 2019-05-01T01:03:41Z

This game is very juicy! The main attacking mechanics are very satisfying and all the visual/audio feedback make them a joy to use. I fell off the 2nd level and had to restart, but it was kinda fun exploring the levels (I think I managed to navigate the third level, and eventually an empty space skybox) without being hounded by hordes of enemies.

Great job

Cash-Out by drakonep 2019-04-30T02:46:35Z

Very good visuals and audio! The gameplay is a little boring, though the power ups made it a lot more enjoyable. I hope you call the cane power-up the 'huri-cane' because that's what it reminds me of! I made it 10months. No idea if that is good or bad

5 Minute Dungeon by LubFotPig 2019-05-02T02:09:56Z

I liked it a lot! I didn't end up buying any power-ups until the end because I assumed there would be more 'levels' or waves, but I beat it the first try so I didn't get to try any out. Still, the game is fun. The shooting mechanic is pretty good and feels satisfying to kill the baddies. The graphics are minimal but clear. The audio is minimal, but fits the aesthetic of the game. Nice job!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Bobbleheads want to dance by jk5000 2020-04-22T14:53:56Z

This was so cute. The way you integrated the difficulty ramp into the story is genius. Great entry!

Space Fight by LordDaniel 2020-04-20T19:15:57Z

This was fun. A very true to form bullet hell. I like all the different patterns. I think it's too easy, but it's better to be too easy than too hard for a jam game definitely. Overall, not the most innovative, but still a fun game :)

Dummy Doggy by Nick Rafalski 2020-04-20T03:06:29Z

@fussenkuh Thanks! No, cars dodging Dodger isn't a thing, but they occasionally veer off course after hitting a goose or a power-up on the road. Thanks for playing!

Dummy Doggy by Nick Rafalski 2020-04-21T19:15:21Z

@nekoruma thanks for playing!

@gwinnell Thanks for the kind words! You're definitely right about the controls. I've gotten some good feedback on ways to improve them now, but I wish I had thought of it before the end of the compo. Thanks again!

@lmb Wow thanks for all the detailed feedback. You are right about the controls, they should be more intuitive. I myself use WSAD and move, and the mouse to control the abilities, so I don't have to take my hand off the keyboard, but I definitely see where you're coming from. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for playing!

Dummy Doggy by Nick Rafalski 2020-04-24T23:32:34Z

@csharprun Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the game.

@flash22 Thanks for the kind words! I'm so happy you enjoyed it

@room606 Oh my gosh! I can't believe I didn't notice the 'shark riding' bug. It is definitely NOT intentional. What's happening is that you're inside the sharks detection circle (so he 'sees' you), but not quite in his killing circle (so he doesn't eat you). He follows your commands because he basically wants to get as close as possible to you. Thanks for the bug report! I'm glad you liked the game :)

Dummy Doggy by Nick Rafalski 2020-04-26T14:34:45Z

@thermacon Thanks so much for the kind words

@blobo Thanks for the feedback! Yes, it definitely could use some more action-y things for the player to do. Most of the work went into making the dog's AI, and the player was almost an afterthought. Thanks for playing!

@dvlv Thanks so much!

@hakro Thanks! I told Barley he's a good boy one extra time for you :)

Dummy Doggy by Nick Rafalski 2020-04-30T03:07:23Z

@frenchie Thanks so much for the feedback. What you experienced is something I noticed right at the end of the jam. Since all the pickups are spawned randomly, it's just bad luck that a coffee spawned right on top of Dodger. I actually tried to alleviate this by keeping track of how long each pickup has been 'alive' and making Dodger ignore ones that have only been alive for 2 seconds or less. This would give Dodger a chance to walk past them and not die so fast. And it actually worked! But then I broke it again somehow, and didn't notice till after submission. I'm still not 100% sure what's causing Dodger to not-ignore them like he used to, but I know I've experienced it too. Sorry about that!

Thanks again for the kind words :)

Dummy Doggy by Nick Rafalski 2020-05-03T02:55:04Z

@lcstark Thanks for the great feedback! You point out many legitimate flaws with the instructions/controls. I can totally see how it's clunky. I always get ideas for gameplay in my head first, but often struggle to find control schemes that are intuitive. Thanks for the kind words :)

Unnamed Space Game by Justin_C 2020-04-21T03:20:14Z

I liked this. Taking over big ships is a pretty innovative take, and it really gives the universe a sense of scale. I think the shooting was a little tedious. I would have preferred bigger bullets or less HP on every thing (my ship included). But overall there was a lot to like here. Great atmosphere!

Rescue Mission by good.enough 2020-04-24T14:26:06Z

This was fun! The music is really really good (until it cuts out). The gameplay is wacky and fun. I think the game needs a cursor though. Without a cursor, I ended up dragging the mouse outside the game window and losing focus a lot.

I also got to the ending building (with only 1 boat) and the game didn't really end. The boat sailed off into the white fog, but nothing told me the game was over and I could still go back and shoot more monkeys (not complaining)

Overall, this was a really fun experience :)

LD Jam 46 Keep It Alive by brandann 2020-04-22T15:00:02Z

There is a lot here to like! The enemies and rooms are interesting, the knight following you mechanic is a good twist, the graphics are cute. I agree with the consensus that it's too hard, but other than that, I really liked it :)

The Machine at the Center of the Earth by p53 2020-04-21T12:51:54Z

This is really charming! This feels like a very complete game, from the UI, to the sounds, to the visual feedback. The platforming is pretty minimal, but it feels good. I never felt like I got cheated by weird collision or anything. The warning lights at the top are a really smart decision because they become your map.

This is probably out of the scope of a 48 hour gamejam, but I think this would benefit a lot from randomizing the placement of the hazards. That way, a player would have to build his mental map over every run. Either way, great game!

For Ducks' Sake by GaryS 2020-04-26T01:36:09Z

This was really charming! The premise and gameplay are super simple, but the theme is well integratd. The art and sound are super cute, even stuff like the UI. Very polished! Nice job

SideKick by Paul Nadan 2020-04-24T00:08:04Z

This was brilliant! At first it looks like a generic platformer, but there are so many good game design decisions here. The procedural generation is simple, but really makes each run different. You can't memorize the level to win; you have to get better.

The enemies area all different. Super fast but predicable taxis. Completely static bombs, but right where Blue-boy will jump up. Sneaky Professor Purple. Aliens that make you watchful of the vertical spaces.

Then there's a boss battle?! what? That was great. A little unintuitive, and if I'm totally honest, I'm not sure how I won. I just kept trying to eat the bombs as they were tossed and eventually I won.

Still, the game was great. My favorite of the jam so far

VAMP by gwinnell 2020-04-21T03:09:12Z

This looks cool, but for some reason I can't get it to load in my browser. In both Firefox and Chrome I get stuck on this screen: https://i.imgur.com/P1azwaL.png Right after getting the "initialising" screen. Music is playing, but nothing ever happens. Am I supposed to hit a certain key?

VAMP by gwinnell 2020-04-21T16:47:29Z

@gwinnell I think I figured it out. Somehow having my Logitech Extreme 3D joystick plugged into my computer was causing the issue:

https://i.imgur.com/dkiWPDT.png

Once I removed it, those exceptions went away and I can play!

VAMP by gwinnell 2020-04-21T22:40:27Z

I finally played the game after my technical difficulties earlier. It's really good! I didn't quite realize how far I could lunge on my first play-through, so I died on the 3rd level. After I realized I could lunge quite a bit, it became much more fun. Lunging from victim to victim in a tight room was really juicy and satisfying.

My only criticism is that the hitboxes (or equivalent) on the blood vial pickups seemed too small. While the rest of the game has a really forgiving margin for error (attacking things, moving through doorways, etc) I found myself *just* missing the vials pretty often and having to double-back.

Overall, still one of my favorite games played so far. Nice job!

MR BUZZ'S FANCY-ASS PICNIC by MrLeePerry 2020-04-22T00:10:16Z

This is really silly but really fun. The fly has a ton of character between the cute animations and sound effects. The gameplay is simple, but doing the "lowest of 4" scoring makes it really interesting. You have to prioritize certain foods even though it'd be much easier to get another one. Great idea, and great execution.

LD46: The Lighthouse at the End of the Universe by LMB 2020-04-21T03:02:00Z

This is a fun game that was executed well. I really enjoy the camera behavior of zooming out when you're moving faster. The whole thing has a kind of mellow vibe that makes it different than similar games. My only critique is that it's hard to hit the enemies with the very discrete 8-way aiming. It seems they can shoot at any angle and are much better at hitting me than I am hitting them!

goose no lose by Kultisti 2020-04-22T12:28:28Z

This game is really cool. I just love the idea of picking up "a guy" and his house and bringing them on your cosmic voyage with your goose. I agree with some other people that the moving mechanics were pretty exhausting (having to do a new keystroke just to move in the same direction), but other than that, I liked everything about this game. I love when keys and locks start showing up to ramp up the complexity. Just when I thought I was getting good! Awesome game!

Turbine Troubles by FussenKuh 2020-04-20T03:07:42Z

This is a fun game with a lot of polish! I keep forgetting to charge my main guy and keep dying! Definitely a great implementation of the theme!

Fishing Survivor Extreme by nizlow 2020-04-21T15:34:55Z

Hey this looks cool! I want to play, but the link to the Zip file seems to be bad. I get a 505 internal server error when trying to follow it

Fishing Survivor Extreme by nizlow 2020-04-21T16:26:52Z

so many fish! This was fun! I was struggling at first, but once I realized I had to sacrifice points to reset the cooldowns faster, I was able to keep quite a few fish alive (over 500). The only thing I was confused about: does it matter where I click and release the food/oxygen? it seems like it is just randomly spread over the whole tank. I'm not sure if I was supposed to be trying to target certain fish that needed the food/oxygen over others. Still, a really nicely done 'simulator' type game.

Captain Molly by Saering 2020-04-24T13:53:16Z

This was pretty fun! The shooting is very juicy and rewarding. The fights are frantic but over quickly if you keep moving. The overall aesthetic is very cohesive and cute. I wish you didn't have to start all over again when you die though. Overall, a nice game!

Missing Pieces by Abu Sabiq Mahdi 2020-04-23T13:33:41Z

This is super polished and charming. The cut-scenes of putting the heart pieces back are very well done. The puzzles are pretty simple but interesting and varied. Nice job!

Cleaning Chaos by Dvlv 2020-04-28T13:16:24Z

This was fun! It definitely captures the theme well. The dialog is a nice touch to give some backstory to the game. Nice job!

Life of ITman by Bozont 2020-04-23T13:04:17Z

This was awesome! Nice job. It had a really good difficulty ramp. At first everything was fine, but soon ... everything was on FIRE! It felt very tactical the way I had to wait for the few seconds of downtime in order to drink an energy drink, or refill my fire extinguisher. Well done!

Treewatcher by xpost2000 2020-04-20T19:54:05Z

I feel really dumb but I don't see how to place turrets. I've read on the webpage and in game that I use the mouse, but I don't see any UI in-game to buy or select them. What am I missing?

Square Shield by Dave Follett 2020-04-20T03:12:05Z

This is simple but fun! I like feeling like a ninja deflecting all the bullets from every angle! I think I could survive indefinitely by just holding down left or right forever, so some more balance would be nice, but this was still a good entry!

Economic Bubble by room606 2020-04-24T23:51:40Z

This was really goofy in a good way. I love all the details like the stock ticker, and the balloon faces. Nice job!

Branch Out by Thermacon 2020-04-24T15:03:28Z

This was really cool! It was really easy to understand what was going on, which is super important for a simulation game. I like the trade-offs between making more branches and more roots. The mood is perfect too: chill and relaxing while I make my little tree all big and strong.

I agree with some other comments that there is no real way to fight back against the bugs if you don't have enough Sun, but maybe I'm missing something.

Really cool game!

IGKNIGHT: Keeper of Flame by sacredbacon 2020-04-20T03:34:23Z

Wow I ended up liking this a lot. I can't get past like 14 seconds, but I think I finally got the hand of 'scroll wheel to aim' controls after the first 10 deaths. I like how you made the aiming snap at discrete increments; it let me kinda lock in on how much scrolling it took to do a 180, 90, etc.

The concept is simple but well executed. I like games where the health of an entity can be inferred simply by it's visuals, like your fire. Very nice.

The different AIs were a good change of pace too. Some dragons went for me instead of the fire! Those bastards!

I also liked the simple but cohesive music and audio. Really true to the style of the game. I am curious why you opted out of being judged on audio because I would have scored it high.

Bomber Escort (or boomer escort) by thatOtherNerd 2020-04-24T15:48:47Z

This was fun. I like the simple graphics and sounds that come together to make a retro feeling game. I don't mind the slow pace of it, I think it makes it more strategic. I do agree with another commenter that the user should be able to hold to shoot. Especially if the gun can fire that fast and enemies need many hits to kill.

Overall, it was a fun game that had all the necessary features (menu, win condition, lose condition, score, etc). Great first gamejam game!

Square Loves Circle! by meelo 2020-04-21T23:46:37Z

Wow this is so good. The story is cute, and the mechanic is really novel. Most importantly, the level design is so great. Most LD platformers I play have really rushed or just lame levels, but these were great. Awesome job

The Last Flame by TortoiseGames 2020-04-21T22:59:09Z

this was a lot of fun. It is very complete and has a novel mechanic (moving the sword with your mouse). Those 2 things are what gamejams are all about: finishing something, and being just a little bit experimental. I do think the game is a little unbalanced. The first 2 waves are really easy, but you don't make enough money to buy any upgrades. I got enough money in the middle of the 3rd wave to buy the damage upgrade (and really needed it!) but I didn't have a second to breathe and purchase it. I died right after that. Regardless, it's still a really cool game and a nice entry :)

FEED by BlipBloop 2020-04-20T17:36:10Z

This is seriously awesome. I love that the parts of the level become the new food to feed the beast. The controls are obviously wacky but I got used to them quickly. This is my favorite game of this LD so far

Supernova by Clément K 2020-04-20T16:13:07Z

This is really solid game. From the instructions to the art and music, it all is cohesive. I think it's a little disorientating when you get far away from the Sun, but you tried to help that with the minimap and the purple arrow; thoughtful touches. The music has a great groove too! Nice job!

Get To The Chopper! by DevParty 2020-04-22T01:23:46Z

Glad I came back to this after you fixed the download issue. It's actually pretty fun. I feel horrible every time one of my little chopper buddies gets taken out on my watch. Neat graphics too. Good job

The Last Match by CSharpRun 2020-04-21T17:34:01Z

I liked this a lot! I got 'lost' in the forest pretty early on and had my wellness down to 2% before I made it back to the fire (which was long dead). I managed to come back from the brink and survive the whole night though. It seemed pretty easy (to me) to just go straight into the forest, not make too many turns, and come straight back to the fire. I didn't even notice the coordinate system until I read @dave-follett's post. However, I still really liked the mood of the game. It would be a nice twist if there were monsters deep in the forest :)

BUBBLE BOY by NEKORUMA 2020-04-21T03:31:22Z

This was great. The sounds and animation were really nostalgic of a Tamagochi. Same with the poops filling up the screen! Did I miss a score? I only played twice because I didn't think there was any high score to try to beat. Still, a good little game

Terrible Spaceship Design by Axisok 2020-04-23T21:31:18Z

This was really fun! The 'terrible spaceship design' is very interesting. I love the little details like the recoil force being applied to the gun, and the projectiles wrapping around the screen. I wish there was a little more variety in the things to shoot, but it was still a fun game!

I am Dog by Craig Cordeiro 2020-04-24T17:07:36Z

This was really cute. The dog's dialogue was definitely the highlight.

I wish there was a little more visual feedback when a bar is running low, and also when your dog dies.

Still, a cool concept with a lot of variety and charm.

Keep Him Alive by KeepingHimAlive 2020-04-22T01:31:22Z

I literally started giggling to myself while throwing couches at the fat guy. This was great. It was really satisfying to completely block him out from a couple pizzas and see him switch to a salad. Well done

Save The Bot by RameshBlue 2020-04-23T21:22:36Z

This was fun! I liked the level design a lot. The gun reload animation was very cool!

Keep IT Alive by bjl 2020-04-20T15:54:39Z

I liked this more than I probably should have! The sound effect really sells the rushed atmosphere. Every time I made a mistake I felt like I was letting IT down! The tutorial was good too. It perfectly predicted that I (and I'm guessing most users) would miss the IT separated by other letters. Nice game!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Mudcar Sprint by Tutti Ankka 2020-10-07T01:17:18Z

First of all, thanks for making the lanes very 'discrete' and not floaty. It makes the game much more enjoyable and almost like a rhythm game, rather than a frantically demanding twitch game. I could see what lane I needed to be in up ahead, and plan my moves. It makes me feel good when I can execute a plan and stay in the race.

Secondly, the graphics and audio are great. They don't blow your socks off or anything, but they are very cohesive and clear.

Overall, the game is pretty simple, but it's just executed really well. Nice job!

Awesome Ludum Boat Race by mvasko2 2020-10-07T03:00:40Z

Hahahaha. This was just plain old silly fun. I felt like a maniac trying to smash the A and D keys faster (with both hands) on my keyboard. It actually helped! Which only made me want to do it more. Kinda like QWOP with a boat. This was awesome. Nicely done!

Loop Swat 'em Gravity by Nick Rafalski 2020-10-06T22:32:38Z

@nikos Thanks for all the kind words. UI is definitely not something I give enough thought to, so that criticism is toally valid. I'm really happy you enjoyed the rest of the game :)

@rhoff95 I wanted to integrate all that block-of-text into a more engaging tutorial, but just ran out of time. Thanks for all the feedback :)

@chaosinism Thanks! I Know the body being a source of deflections is kind of against the whole theme of the game. At first, I was going to make the body take damage and eventually die, but that was way too stressful. It ended up as kind of an awkward mechanic where the body still deflects the bad guys, just not as drastically as the paddles. Thanks for playing :)

@minibetrayal Spending longer than you should is the ultimate compliment, thanks for making my day :)

@todd-mitchell Thanks so much!

@pizzasgood You stumbled upon my favorite unintentional mechanic. Initially, I wasn't sure what to do when 2 aliens collided. Should you get no points? should you get negative points? I ended up making it count as 2, and that turns out to be a pretty good strategy for clearing waves quickly. It's sort of a risk/reward thing though because it's usually harder to 'aim' a swatted enemy at another one, and you risk missing and him hitting the wrong zone. I think it works overall. Thanks for all the kind words :)

Loop Swat 'em Gravity by Nick Rafalski 2020-10-07T12:16:07Z

@sacredbacon Thanks so much for the feedback, especially following up from my last entry! Good to know I'm improving a little here and there. Thanks again!

@kunonooni I'm so glad you found it fun! I've made some overly-complicated LD games before that I thought were super novel, but just weren't *fun*. I really tried to keep in mind that games are supposed to be about fun first. Thanks for playing and all the feedback :)

@peachtreeoath Wow what amazing feedback! I really really appreciate you taking the time to analyze the game so deeply. You're exactly right about things 'slowing down' once you get used to it. 42 is a great score. I have only beat that a couple times myself. Thanks again!

@ds-nahogara You're right: the main mechanic is pretty confusing and only having a block-of-text to explain it is a pretty weak solution. I wish I could have added an in-game tutorial. Still, I'm glad you had fun, and thanks for the feedback

Orbital Blast by pvg 2020-10-06T15:30:26Z

Fun game! I really like the music and simple but cohesive graphics!

Bust-a-Loop by PeachTreeOath 2020-10-07T13:55:26Z

Very novel and fun game! Holy crap Arcane Fist was fun but hard to time correctly.

I have a question though: did all 10 levels of the Button Masher difficulty, and it told me I was unlocking a ton of cool moves, but most weren't available on this difficulty. So I went up to Casual and hit 'r' a bunch of times (but didn't actually finish a level), and never saw any of them. Did the same in Amateur and Pro as well. Do I have to re-unlock the moves on each difficulty?

Anyway, I will probably come back to this because it's just so silly and fun. The feeling of getting a 3 or 4 move combo right is just so addictive. Great job!

Dungeon Simulator by Yeti Kid 2020-10-08T00:38:34Z

This was great. Same issues as everybody regarding the control scheme, but I got past it. The best part is the variety of defenses you can place. Bats seem to suck, skeletons are pretty good, towers are meh, but man those spikes are deadly. And so cheap! I think I got to the 5th hero by basically just buying spikes. Really really cool concept. Nice job

Damn This Plane! by axelrinaldo 2020-10-09T18:57:00Z

This is really hard! The enemies are pretty good about shooting you whenever you're in their line of sight, and the bullets travel really fast, so it's hard to mitigate damage. I managed like 600 pts at best.

That being said, I really liked it and I played it for much longer than I thought I would. The plane mechanics are pretty neat. The speed up/down makes for some interesting (if not physically accurate) acrobatics. The bits of humor are really welcome and fit the tone. The art and sound are very pleasing. Great job!

Stuck in Orbit by thedarkmagi 2020-10-05T22:47:40Z

This was fun. It's super cute and sounds good too. I think the bullets move a little slow: it's hard to hit the boss that moves back and forth. Still, a very nice game!

Fly by Nakst 2020-10-06T17:20:00Z

Wow this is crazy. The movement is very hard at first, but the game does a good idea of teaching you making the passages tighter and tighter. I got to the dash ability, got through a few more rooms, but then stuff started to look the same. I think I took a wrong turn somewhere! I never beat it, but I still had a lot of fun playing. Great game!

Knock, knock... Boooooo by FussenKuh 2020-10-06T16:47:09Z

This was totally silly and funny. I really appreciate the little details like delaying the last square from popping for a few extra beats. Also, the music is pleasing and doesn't get annoying (considering how often it loops). Nice job for 5 hours!

Loopstuck by Nobleboy 2020-10-05T23:21:47Z

Funny game! I wish the controls were better. Having no control in the air makes this really unforgiving. The controls are just also too sensitive overall. It seems like I need to go super slow to not just walk off a platform.

That being said, it was still very humorous! I appreciated the intro animation, and all the silly sound bites. The theme interpretation was hilariously literal.

Infinity testing room by TheGreenMan 2020-10-07T13:29:38Z

Unfortunately, even with my mouse speed set as high as I can get in Windows (don't have a fancy gaming mouse with its own settings) it was still really painful to move around, and especially, aim.

I do like the overall aesthetic though. It's simple, but well done. The reload animation is great. The gun play was simple but not boring.

I really liked the health system. I felt like I could manage getting into a fight, as long as I could find cover later while I regenerated. Nicely done!

Welcome To MILTON KEYNES by Lyje 2020-10-05T17:14:55Z

This was fun! I like the super simple gameplay that ramps up as you progress. The fuel mechanic adds a needed sense of urgency, while the extra lives make it a little more forgiving: perfect combo. The humor is great, and the visuals/audio are cohesive. Nice job!

Candy Collector by Nikos 2020-10-05T02:57:23Z

I love the overall feel of this game. The broom feels weird at first, but becomes very visceral feeling once you get used to it. The spinning animation after hitting a wall is great. My favorite part though is probably the wooshing sound effect of the broom!

Mel's Bells by Pizzasgood 2020-10-05T02:08:52Z

Wow this is a really fun idea. I wasn't able to beat it, but I got a lot better by the end. For some reason I had a really hard time differentiating the middle and high notes, but that's probably just my lack of musicality. I appreciate that you couldn't really 'die' you just had to keep going around the loop if you didn't have enough mana. Nice job!

Loopsed In Space by Todd Mitchell 2020-10-06T17:46:51Z

Funny game! I have the same issues that have already been stated. I couldn't play long enough to get more than the first upgrade. But it was a fun and well polished experience. Nice job!

Stuck in an inner tube! by UkuleleFury 2020-10-05T19:46:25Z

This was really really good! I played it until I 'beat it' (I think so at least, the level started to repeat). Some of those last few sections; the all ice one, and the one where the walls went away, were so demanding that I almost quit, but I just HAD to beat it. It reminded me of Super Meat Boy in that regard. Overall, I feel like the game did a great job of teaching me the main mechanic, and making me get more and more precise with it, all the way up to that last segment that was the toughest.

BTW, I noticed that you can scroll the mouse wheel in and out to zoom. This helped me look ahead a little bit (until the camera was too far way to actually make out any detail). Not sure if this was intentional or not, but it was cool. Great game

Lazy River Racing by sacredbacon 2020-10-07T00:32:59Z

I found the true meaning of winning, so theres that! Fun game. The music was a pretty repetitive loop (ha!) but it had a great groove that I really enjoyed. Nice job!

Clone Kitchen by StormCat 2020-10-05T23:11:13Z

The tutorial doesn't seem to work. Everytime I start it, I just instantly get "Ok, that's everything". I watched @renge stream and realized you had to double-jump, hold e, and submit things on the bottom portal dealies. I'm sure all of that would have been explained in the tutorial, but it would be nice to have it on the LD web page since the tutorial seems to be buggy.

Now once I actually figured out how to play the game, it was really fun! It's like Overcooked with a twist! I am not sure my clones every did anything helpful; I was mostly just fighting them for my own ingredients. Still, it was fun to watch! Very neat concept!

Orbitrary by Aimainiac 2020-10-05T17:26:55Z

This is super clever. The speed-changing aspect of the different orbits is the most novel part. It really makes you think strategically about what's up ahead. Can you speed up and juuust get past that asteroid? or should you slow down and let it pass you first? Of course, there is a competing motivation in your head going on "No go into the middle ring with the shield bits!". Those 2 competing motivations make the game exciting and a little addicting. Great job!

The one thing I wish was different was the 'hit box' or 'tolerance' for collecting multiple shield bits while switching orbits. It seems like it's pretty tight, and sometimes I felt like I should have got credit for picking up a shield bit right as I was entering/exiting an orbit, but the game didn't give it to me. This would make the game a little easier obviously, but I think it's pretty tough to begin with, so it's okay. And more importantly, it would improve players' feeling of accomplishment when stringing a bunch of successful shield-pickups in a row. It almost becomes a rhythm game in the way you want to hit every shield bit.

Awesome game. My favorite of the compo so far.

bloTT by MiniBetrayal 2020-10-06T13:32:19Z

This game is much more than meets the eye! At first I thought it was just another typical platformer, but the more I played it, the more I appreciated it!

First of all, the controls are solid. They are very predictable and forgiving. After just a few deaths, I was able to routinely make the long jumps over lasers with a high degree of reliability. I still had to focus, and I messed up occasionally, but it didn't feel unfair. It was always on me

Secondly, the platforming isn't actually very hard, which is the right choice for a puzzle-first game. Nothing worse than being expected to execute Super Meat Boy style platforming *while* solving a puzzle.

Lastly, the twist of stuff changing in the level was just neat enough to make me go 'Aha!' a few times when I figured out what I needed to do. Those are the best moments in gaming

Nicely done!

Danger Beat by rhoff95 2020-10-05T13:40:09Z

This is a really fun concept! The graphics are very pleasing, and the whole game reads very intuitively. It was a very nice touch to include different BPMs. I got to hear the whole song on 90 and 120, but died too quick at 150.

Loopfield by MikoziQ 2020-10-07T23:32:47Z

This is really polished and well done. The main mechanic is pretty novel, and the gameplay is fun. It seemed like sometimes the random spawning worked out that you HAD to take a hit to grab an upgrade, but it really didn't hurt too much (just my pride). The whole aesthetic with the art and music are really cohesive which is always impressive for a compo entry. Nice job!

Pollution by Athryell 2020-10-06T14:04:36Z

This was really well done! The competing motivations of "get a long chain to get a higher score multiplier" and "keep your chain short so it doesn't get snagged on coral" was really smart and made the game fun to play. The art and sound are nice and make the whole experience work. Great first entry!

While we are here - stuck in a loop by Seskon 2020-10-06T13:56:04Z

Awesome execution of a code-related interpretation of the theme. I've played a couple now, and this one is the most fun. I also didn't like having to count (and then re-count!) some of the longer sequences of characters, but it didn't hurt too much. Great job!

The timekiller by Lichead studio 2020-10-07T14:39:16Z

The graphics are very cute and the audio is nice too! The need to race forward so you don't run out of time makes for a pretty frantic game, in a good way. Nice job!

Collateral Damage by Michael Parrish 2020-10-08T03:38:10Z

This is so hard, but I still love it. A lot of the entries I've played have made you feel like you're *in a loop*, sure, but this is one of the few that made me feel like I was really *suck* in a loop. I just wanted to zip around unencumbered by the orbits and shoot those stupid aliens in their faces, but alas, I had to stay in my orbit.

The art an sounds go really well together and match the simple (but deep) gameplay. Great job!

Space Cowboy by a4x8e6 2020-10-08T01:51:47Z

Man I really had a love/hate realtionship with the core loop mechanic by the end. It was the quintessential easy to learn, difficult to master mecanic. I beat the game, and by the end, I felt like I had improved my loop-throwing by about 1000%, so that shows the game teaches you as you go. Very nice.

Honestly, the game is pretty perfect as is (and my scores reflect that), but I always like to provide some point of constructive criticism. On Level 3, where you had to catch 3 green guys in 20 seconds, I lost multiple times because I had the last guy ON the conveyor belt, but time expired. I know that 20 seconds is 20 seconds, but this felt 'unfair' to me from a game-design standpoint, as I can't control the speed of the conveyor belt. It might as well be 17 seconds because it takes about 3 seconds for the belt to complete its circuit. Just my 2 cents.

Overall, this was a great entry :)

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Sea of Lies by Erkberg 2021-04-27T00:42:55Z

I liked the music and the ocean background, it really set the atmosphere! Overall, the gameplay was fine, but I felt kinda torn between trying actually read the witty comments, and avoid the enemies. I think this was intentional, but I found it more frustrating than interesting unfortunately. Still, a nice little game, with a twist. Good job!

Digmania by LeviDSmith 2021-05-02T15:26:31Z

This was fun! A great interpretation of the theme, and I really dig the variety of enemies. The leaderboard is a great touch too!

Orbdig by 5Mixer 2021-05-03T03:06:36Z

This was so much fun! I found that once I had the Dynamite Force and Dynamite speed really high (like it cost 1.6M) I could just press both Dynamite + Laser in front of me, and it was like I was taking a big eraser tool to the whole map wherever I flew. Really fun!

What's Under Base 69? by Phobos001 2021-04-26T12:30:02Z

I liked this a lot! At the end of the day, the gameplay was pretty limited, but the ambiance and mood were great. I really liked all the cut scenes; they do a good job of establishing the 'plot' of the game which few LD entries ever accomplish. It makes me want to see more of this game! Great job

Astral Abyss by darthone 2021-05-02T03:32:33Z

This is so cool! I love the art and the music. There are so many well done elements like the fog of war, automatically selecting the nearest planet to launch a settler/surveyor from, etc. The UI isn't exactly amazing but it gets the job done.

It took me a while, but I finally figured out the rock/paper/scissors thing. Overall I'm just really enjoying playing this :)

Slimes and Sandwiches by Nick Rafalski 2021-04-28T12:33:45Z

@petra-the-kat Thanks for the feedback, mini-Doom is high praise, and exactly what I was going for (sorta)! Sorry about the controls, I definitely didn't give them the attention they deserved. P.S. Let me know if you find any more dungeon crawler entries, I've been looking for them too, but haven't really found any. Thanks again!

@phobos001 You are very right about the aesthetic being quite confusing. I spent far too long on the code and not nearly enough making sure the game actually presented well. Thanks for playing and the feedback :)

@ianthebee You're hired as my next marketing person! That's exactly what I was going for. Thanks for playing!

@fussenkuh Killing the slimes was in the original scope of work, but got cut when it was already 2PM Sunday before I even had the concept of a slime in the game. I actually had them as pushable at first (only because that's the way the dynamic rigidbody component comes out of the box). It was fun to push them, but it was way too unpredictable. Sometimes they'd fly off the map, other times they'd barely move. Instead of taking the time to finely tune the physics settings, I just made them triggers. I agree that would have been more fun though. Thanks for the feedback!

@paroxysmal You area totally right in your criticisms. I wanted to address the "slimes right by the door" thing, and had a plan for it, but just ran out of time. Thanks for playing :)

@nodice Thanks for the feedback! I too wanted to give you a better way to avoid the slimes. The original scope included being able to kill them with weapons you pick up, but I didn't budget my time well enough for that. Dropping something that they are attracted to is a great suggestion though. It would have been less work than a full blown weapon system, and fit the 'pacifist' theme better. Thanks for playing!

@deadmanjw @gnaro Thanks for all the kind words :) You made my day!

@yulotomorrow Thanks for recognizing the difficulty in creating this game that looks pretty bland on the surface! Honestly, I knew when I started that the genre was probably a poor choice for a 48 hour jam. I knew the final product would lack any real content or polish. I'm still happy I made a functional game though. Thanks for the kind words :)

@secret-magic-404 That was exactly the vibe I was going for! The sandwich sound was just a recording of me pretending to eat something (a bit dramatically). I usually get about 90% of my sound effects from my own mouth lol! Thanks for the feedback :)

@sacredbacon Wow thanks for all the kind words, and thanks for playing :)

One-Butt Alien Corridor by PeachTreeOath 2021-04-30T23:58:35Z

I really liked this! Made it to level 5! With some music/sfx and non-placeholder art, this would be a game I'd play for a long time. Nice!

RAMnesia by 100th_Coin 2021-05-12T03:00:25Z

No joke, one of the best mechanics I've seen in the 9 Ludum Dares I've attended. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. Very very cool!

D. Per & Dee Per: Treasure Hunters by gamesplusjames 2021-04-27T12:26:06Z

There is so much accomplished in this game. Great humor, lots of mechanics, and good level design. It's honestly crazy you could make this in a weekend! I really enjoyed the dissimilarity between the characters. They each had their strengths and weaknesses. Throwing Dan is the best part for sure! Nice job!

Tiefenmesser by axelrinaldo 2021-04-27T02:37:45Z

Yes! This totally scratched an itch I've had for a while. It reminds me of the game NavyField which I played for literally thousands of hours in the early-mid 2000s. What a great nostalgia trip.

The whole atmosphere is great. I really like the subtle details like the ocean being a blueprint map, and the German (?) words on the UI controls. Also, limiting the UI to not show in the further zoom levels was smart, otherwise it'd be overpowered.

The AI seems just smart enough to kill you if you're not doing the bare-minimum to avoid them, but also not smart enough to really put up a challenge. That's perfectly fine for me in a gamejam honestly. I plaid 3 or 4 times and got better every time. Awesome!

Under Pressure by OadT 2021-05-02T14:51:21Z

This is awesome! Once I figured out the purpose of all the parts (and struts/springs) I thought there would be 1 obvious 'best' design, but then I tried your example with the chariot pulling the cockpit and it really works! Got past 200M with it but kinda got stuck on the level geometry. Could probably have gone deeper with better maneuvering. This was so cool!

Dungeoneer by notApollogising 2021-04-28T12:48:25Z

@testudor I managed to get past the OpenAL issue by downloading a 32bit DLL from here: https://www.dll-files.com/openal32.dll.html and putting it in the main game folder. Worked for me after that

@notapollogising There is a lot here for a gamejam, nice job! I really enjoyed the combat system; being able to knock-back the enemies with the projectiles made it much more tactical and interesting. I also enjoyed the variety of enemies. Those fast floating-head guys were evil! Nice job!

Street Spark Racing by BytingGames 2021-05-12T02:40:01Z

This was really well done! the 2d/3d mix is really great, the narration is hilarious, and the mechanic is super novel. I just loved playing it. Great job!

Dwarven Mines: Hunt for the Evergreen by mrtnldm 2021-04-28T01:40:11Z

Walking simulator for sure, but a beautiful immersive walking simulator at least!

Ocean Cleanup by Weirdybeardyman 2021-04-27T01:21:25Z

I liked this a lot! You managed to add a ton of little details to the undewater world that made it feel really alive. The music goes perfect too. I actually didn't mind the controls like some others. I was very deliberate and treated it like I was controlling some kind of robot or something; I would only pitch up and down, or roll, when absolutely needed. Stuck to WSAD most of the time which worked great. Nice game!

Asteroid Disaster by XCVZXC 2021-05-14T01:57:48Z

This was so much fun! There are a lot of pretty basic "fall down" style games in this jam, but yours is uniquely fun and exciting. The powerups, especially the lava patches, really change the gameplay up and make it fun. The audio is just right, and I like all the little touches like the switching backgrounds as you get deeper, and even the UI icon showing the cooldown for the lava ability. Great game!

Deeper deep ocean by Aret24 2021-04-27T00:58:29Z

This was honestly really fun and well done! I love the emotion and sass of the crabs. I like the little details like how the boss has 3 eyes compared to the regular enemies' 2. I also had the issue where I assumed I had to click to shoot (rather than hold) at first, but then I paid attention to the green bar, and it helped me figure it out. That's good UI right there. Overall, the presentation was really clean and just perfect. Nice job!

Dating and Boxing by Phoenix Fireflower 2021-05-14T01:49:45Z

This is great! I don't know how you managed to program basically 2 games in one. I enjoyed the retro aesthetic and the story. Nice job!

The Depths (Ultimate Edition XXI) by sacredbacon 2021-04-28T02:02:07Z

This was really cool! I agree with the others about the camera. The fixed perspective made it really hard to tell where some of the floating platforms were in relation to the proceeding ones. Sometimes they had shadows on the ground which helped, but usually they didn't. Onto the good news, the rope swinging segment in the first level is seriously some great game-feel. Get the rhythm just right, and you can really get into it. Overall this game had a ton of polish and generally felt very complete!

Associated Arguments by mathemagician 2021-04-28T01:29:31Z

This was cool! I liked the talking noises and the whole dialog portraits part. The puzzleing was pretty easy, but very respectable for a gamejam. My only real complaint is that I felt like I was fighting the controls often. It seemed like my character would just get stuck moving randomly and I'd have to pickup a key and press it down again to keep moving in the same direction, even though nothing was in my way. Still, a nice game :)

Submersive by deadmanjw 2021-04-27T01:29:55Z

Totally getting Pokemon Snap vibes from this, in the best way. I know it's not finished, but I actually would love to see this fleshed-out into a concept. The first time I saw a super giant squid-thing, I nearly shat my pants, there is a lot of potential for rare and mysterious deep sea creatures here. With the right music, polish, and (probably procedural) world generation, I could get lost in a game like this. Nice!

The Ocean Depths by ziggykac 2021-05-02T15:10:21Z

This is just a solid little game. Everything is good and cohesive. The music is really good. I like that you play a sound effect while the sharks are aggroing you. Lots of little touches like that make this feel complete. Very nice!

MilCo. by MikoziQ 2021-05-06T12:49:16Z

This was really cute! The graphics and sound effects are great. The UI projected onto the ground is really cool too. I was enjoying the game quite a bit until I clicked on the "milk factory" after already connecting a bunch of houses. when I did that, it disconnected the milk factory to the first house, and I couldn't seem to reconnect it. Not sure if it was user error, or a bug. Any way, still a great game. I made a similar "economy simulator" for LD44 and it's very difficult to get a good balance in 48 hours. Nice job!

Deep Sea Explorer by Harmadillo 2021-05-02T15:21:22Z

Wow doing a card game for an LD compo entry is really impressive! I like the FTL-like approach with random encounters.

I think I understand the mechanics pretty well, but it still seems like doing any upgrades (or even buying a new sub) will take ages. I did 2 expeditions, one where I got to level 10 before surfacing, and another where I got to level 8. For both those runs, my total money was like $660 and a new sub costs $100,000? Maybe I am missing something.

I like the risk/reward of taking a rest. You know you'll lose 2 hp, but you can maximize the resources on the current level, at least, that's how I interpreted it. Nice game!

The Clownfish Home by crazyMouse 2021-04-29T17:35:24Z

I liked all the varied obstacles, and the overall message to not pollute the oceans! The music is very nice too. Nice job!

An Unexpected Mishap in Naval Mine Cove by Bea 2021-05-02T00:05:50Z

Awesome, reminds me a lot of Lovers In A Dangerous Space Time. The amount of polish achieved in a jam is off the charts. Really nice! My only constructive criticism would be to have slightly changed the graphic of the lower boiler pump to differentiate it from the Left/Right ones. For the first few 100m I didn't take any damage so I had nothing to bail out, and I wasn't sure what that bottom pump was for. I thought maybe it was slowing me down or moving me down faster? Once I took some flooding, I figured it out though. Very nice overall!

Deeper Dungeon by CiYouLater 2021-05-02T01:52:37Z

The faces and the sound effects are funny and lighten the mood! Unfortunately I found the controls very awkward and was only able to make it to level 3. Still, it was pretty satisfying to swing the big sword around in circles and take out multiple enemies. Nice job!

CAVE CRAVLER by NoobHereo 2021-05-03T03:24:25Z

This is a tight little game! The graphics, music, controls, and mechanics are all really cohesive and fit the scope of a jam game nicely. I liked the different attacks, but Bouncy Ball seemed to be the best overall to me. much faster than the big fireball, but still able to 1-shot most enemies. I agree with some others that the very long float number on the UI is out of place. Overall, one of my favorite games :)

STRAIGHT INTO HELL by DeliciousSalad 2021-04-27T01:10:50Z

This is just a great gamejam game. Polished and fun, with a tight concept that was executed well. I am really, like seriously, digging the music track. Little touches like the intro animation of the game title really make this feel finished. I agree with others that the early game is kinda monotonous after you're warmed up to the later speeds, but I just take that time to groove with the main track. Nicely done

Bit Dungeon by KroyIsYork Games 2021-04-29T00:23:52Z

This was great! I really appreciated the variety in the enemies. Those jumpy Piranha Plant guys are evil! The controls are tight. I appreciate that you can take out multiple enemies with 1 hit if they are bunched up appropriately. I really nave nothing bad to say about this game. It's a perfect jam entry!

Depar - LD48 by Cirdan 2021-05-04T03:11:12Z

This is a very very pretty game :)

LD49 — Unstable

Rival Sniper by Hjalte 2021-10-06T00:46:39Z

This was really fun. Reminded me of a browser game I used to play with a similar concept. The little story woven into this is refreshing for a compo entry. Overall I had a blast playing it and was sad when it was over. Nice!

That stable looks pretty unstable by pcmaster 2021-10-04T22:12:11Z

This was goofy but fun, and had just the right kinda charm to make it all come together. I managed to 'thread the needle' with a horse between the last 2 posts a couple times before finally knocking it all down, which made me laugh out loud. Great job!

Connection Lost by mvasko2 2021-10-06T00:54:46Z

I really dig the idea of this game. The music and art are nice and everything made sense very intuitively. I think that the difficulty is pretty high. Between the little collision (even when you go off-road doing 10% damage, to the short timer when you get out of range, it's really hard to recover from any mistake. Still, I found myself playing a longer than I thought I would. Nice!

A boat in the storm by jacqueslelezard 2021-10-04T02:28:33Z

This was neat. I am digging the abstract ocean visuals. I really liked the music, but you didn't put audio as a rating category so I'm assuming you didn't make it?

What a Beach by tinykidtoo 2021-10-05T20:01:13Z

Haha I love the push mechanic. Take that you other drunks! Overall I really really like the combination of mechanics, music and graphics. It just makes for a fun experience that I enjoyed playing :)

Demolition Mouse by lonewookie 2021-10-04T01:32:55Z

This was a very nice entry! I liked the variety in platforms (ice, cheese) a lot! The graphics are great. Just wish that collision bug didn't happen because it killed quite a few runs. Still, very nice!

Bad Ball Blob by huntthewumpus 2021-10-05T17:59:57Z

Fun little game! I really appreciate the detailed tutorial! The sniper levels were my favorite, but the 100+ ball levels were are also really fun! Nice job!

Horse with a Human Mask on A Tightrope by jefvel 2021-10-06T01:46:11Z

Wow this is absurd in the best way. I am not nearly good enough to beat it, but that didn't stop me from playing like 10+ rounds of failure. Great job!

LD49: Homeward by LMB 2021-10-05T17:12:53Z

This was awesome! I'm amazed by how many events you crammed in 48 hours, complete with lots of unique art! The writing is great too. I also had problems dealing with high levels of Reasoning, but I appreciate that balance is difficult in 48 hours. Overall, this was super creative and fun :)

Slime-a-pult by Swen 2021-10-05T20:29:02Z

This was fun! I have never played a platformer with this kind of movement mechanic, and I found it very refreshing. I really like details like the cutscenes with the shaking text and other charms. Very nice!

Cross Over by Ryan Lambe 2021-10-04T22:19:32Z

I really like the main character, especially the way he hops around when switching direction, so cute! The theme is well integrated and the platforming, though pretty basic, works well enough. I was kinda sad when I beat the game because I wanted to keep playing, which is a good thing!

Scootin’ Cubes by David Hunter 2021-10-06T01:49:56Z

Simple concept, but pretty fun! it has a rhythm game feel after a while. I think the color switching mechanic is pretty novel, well done!

Gunstable Tanks by Gus the Shark 2021-10-06T02:45:46Z

This was great! I felt like a real George Patton with my forward assault. The boss was quite a doozy, but I managed to beat him on my second attempt. Really enjoyed this :)

Giant Horse Deathball by fakefirefly 2021-10-03T23:49:17Z

I didn't understand the name at first, but then at some point I had 20+ animals at my disposal, slamming into a bunch of rednecks! My favorite farm animal is definitely the pile of poo. The music is good too :)

Core:Unstable by eyedromeda 2021-10-06T01:38:10Z

This was great! I liked the separate mini-games that are simple but combine for a chaotic (unstable) time. Really well done with the lighting and the music too to bring it all together.

Space Squabble by GoldenEvolution 2021-10-04T22:08:09Z

This is sooo good! The art, sound, dialog and mechanics are so polished for any game, forget the fact it was made in 48 hours. I love details like the little intro cut scene. So good!

Equilibrium by freeworld 2021-10-05T20:05:18Z

This is pretty simple, but really fun. The overall aesthetic matches the design: simple and obvious. I liked how it played, didn't have any problem with the controls at all. The only thing I would say is that having to restart from 0 when you lose is kinda harsh. Being able to stay at your current level would have been better in my opinion. Still, a really nice entry :)

Volcano Containment by Morris 2021-10-05T17:04:13Z

I love gamejams for games games like this. Hook shot? Lava? Why not. It's a fun little platformer that has a great feeling of intensity to it. I agree with others that the difficulty is way high. I was really proud to get 2 extinguishers after about 20 attempts. Still, I kept playing because it's just a really fresh and fun feeling mechanic.

Pile Up Medieval by zimny11 2021-10-05T16:49:31Z

hahaha this was awesome. I liked trying to stack as many houses as I could on the tiny pier to the far right. Wasn't able to beat the dragon ever, but I still played like 5 times. Really fun!

Move IT by sorko 2021-10-04T01:38:46Z

This was cool! I really dug the music and the nighttime vibe. The lights on the truck totally added to the immersion. I had fun jamming out to the music and making a few deliveries before driving off the edge of the map. The only thing I didn't really understand is what the meter at the bottom left was representing.

Spacify by Sigo 2021-10-06T02:05:36Z

This was awesome. The music is amazing for 48 hours, you obviously have a real talent for it. I found the edge-to-edge wrapping pretty difficult to comprehend at first, but eventually I figured it out. I feel the composition of notes is pretty limited since you can only move 1 column at a time, all the songs felt pretty similar in this regard. Still, I played all of them multiple times and really just had a blast jamming out to your entry, nice job!

Choppy Rescue by Guisado 2021-10-06T02:38:27Z

This game looks great! I really couldn't get very far with how difficult the controls are, but I appreciate all the details like the 3D HUD elements, the instructions screen, and the scenery. I do appreciate that the helo has some structural integrity and doesn't blow up at the slightest bump (otherwise I'd be doomed). Nice job!

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-04T01:54:00Z

This was crazy. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. I agree it was pretty unforgiving, but overall, it's a well put-together compo entry. I dig little things like the chairs off in the distance and the sound effect as a table falls into the ether

The Theme is Unstable by Johnathan Peres 2021-10-05T16:57:32Z

This was so much fun! The sound effects are goofy and match the overall theme of the game. I literally thought something was wrong with my web browser for a second when everything turned to French! Great job :)

Pot Shots & Whiskey by CinderBlock 2021-10-04T02:32:42Z

This was so cool! I love the graphics and the overall cheeky aesthetic. It is definitely missing some sound though.

Unstable Genius by Doc Kaos 2021-10-04T01:23:32Z

I felt like a real h4x0r when I figured this out, great job! The little touches like the opening video, the torrent file, and a few others (no spoilers) were really welcome. The puzzle was the perfect level of difficulty too. Great job!

Gun King (HTML) by Daniel Seeberg 2021-10-06T02:25:13Z

Nice game, and great use of the theme. I liked how you had to rely on the enemies in some instances to bounce you far enough onto another platform. The pixel art and sfx are great and very fitting. Nice job!

Parcel Panic by PKZinpo 2021-10-06T13:00:57Z

This was a great looking game, and I actually think the controls are pretty tight. No complaints there. I liked having to learn where the houses were, it felt like I was really becoming a mail carrier! I agree with others that it's too hard though. Seems like the label that tells you what building to drop off a parcel at goes away after only a few seconds. Does this mean the delivery can't be completed even though the parcel is still in your inventory? It wasn't clear to me. Either way, it was a fun chaotic little game :)

Spirit Soother by OverloadedPampukin 2021-10-05T22:56:22Z

Great graphics and really cool music. I agree with others that the main mechanic is very finicky. I still enjoyed the game though, it was a fresh take on a traditional genre. Nice job!

Jam Fall by StaticBits 2021-10-05T18:23:20Z

Jam and Lava? Why not! This is such a cute, silly, well-constrained game! I liked playing on the hardest difficulty and seeing the chaos ensue. Was pretty happy to get over 200 on it! Nice job!

Un Stabled by 0DarkAndNerdy 2021-10-04T02:08:25Z

This was cool! I like the physics and little details like the random horse name. Poor Bella :( I finally figured out how to change the scream intensity, and was able to beat it. Nice game!

The Unstable Comet by Juanlu 2021-10-06T00:38:49Z

I really dig the kinda anti-shoot-em-up vibe here. Your ship is slow, your weapon is slow, the asteroids are slow. But the controls are tight and the action isn't exactly frantic, so it balances it out. It's a much more mellow shooter. The music fits it really well too. Nice!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

A duck on ice by jk5000 2022-04-06T01:03:19Z

I love the whacky-ness. Bombs? Ducks? Fans on its head? Awesome! The narration was cool too :)

3rd Emu australian war simulator by sebbernery 2022-04-04T16:04:05Z

Made it to 52 seconds!

I love the art, especially the explosion animation. I also thing the visual/audio feedback on the emus charging is really good!

The gameplay is pretty unforgiving considering how hard it is to accurately measure a shot. The best strategy is to just spam space bar with the gun angled low enough that you create a kill-zone in front of the truck. I think a prediction line or something would make it much more rewarding, but obviously that's easier said than done.

Overall, I liked the whacky setting and art/sound :)

From Dust by tater-hater 2022-04-08T20:39:30Z

I liked the gameplay and the tie in to your grandfather, very humbling. I also liked how the music was kinda melancholy to fit the theme. Nice job!

The Floor Is Lava by Nick Rafalski 2022-04-09T00:56:25Z

@peachtreeoath Thanks for all the feedback! The RNG on the holes is pretty harsh indeed, every time a block spawns, there's a 1 in 10 chance a hole will spawn with it. Obviously, a few lucky rolls can change the game, but that was the best I could muster in a short time frame.

Also, Yes, the stacks on the leaderboard are exact replicas of the ones from your game. I'm just storing the position, rotation, scale and color of each block along with your score, then recreating it on the leaderboard.

Thanks for playing and for all the kind words :)

A Thousand Islands, and One by esayitch 2022-04-10T20:59:43Z

I really liked this. The proc gen is so pretty I could just flip through a slide show of islands all day. The gameplay is pretty sparse, but I really just enjoyed being in the world, listening to the sounds, and seeing the different islands. Nice job!

Annihilation by Schuster 2022-04-10T22:30:00Z

This was a lot of fun! The mechanics are simple but really polished and feel really good. I love saving up that meteor and teaching those humans the errors of their way. I really wish there was a score because I feel like I did really well on my last playthrough. Overall, still a great game :)

Engineer's Last Stand by shp 2022-04-08T14:21:35Z

This was really awesome! It's a rock solid tower defense with little twists like having to go out to collect the money, and friendly fire. I played this longer than any other game by far. Awesome job!

Slither And Fire by J0ye 2022-04-11T15:07:08Z

Really cool use of procedural generation, and the main slicing mechanic is really fun. I agree with some others that it gets very hard to distinguish where the new live microbes are after so many have died, but maybe that is part of the difficulty. Still, a really fun and intriguing game :)

Jet-pack vs AI by MaximeG 2022-04-06T02:01:29Z

This was fun. The graphics are really good. I really love the missile model and particle effect. The gameplay is pretty basic but it felt really cool to fly over a huge horde of AIs and kill them all with the jetpack. Nicely done!

Lumber Tracks by Black Flag 2022-04-10T21:09:32Z

Wow this was really fun to play! I appreciate all the subtly in the game design like adding the red berries only when you fall behind the train, the fact the course starts out full of small easy tress, but ramps up to bigger ones, etc. Nice job!

Ice-olation by badoomtch 2022-04-06T01:44:19Z

This was great! I really love little details like being able to burn the fish. The whole aesthetic is very cohesive between the chill music, the simple art, and the relaxed (but also frantic?) gameplay. Nicely done!

Immune System "Engineer" - Can you Delay the Inevitable Skin Breach? by Aarimous 2022-04-04T03:12:25Z

This is great! I really just love the drag and drop mechanic, it's super clean and feels good. All the little visual and audio feedback really helps.

The difficulty is great. Starts slow enough that you get to 'practice' the mechanic, but ramps up to a frenzy pretty quick. Nice job!

Space Onslaught by SharpLoaded 2022-04-08T01:37:18Z

This was really well done! I got to 3613 kills just by spamming turrets. There was a lull where I basically stopped getting income, even though the kills were still rolling in, so I'm not sure what that was about, but it was really fun otherwise. I like the matching 8bit art and sound effects. The tool tips and info were really nice for an LD game. Nice job!

Heat by Wuppos 2022-04-06T01:28:39Z

This was great! It's very polished in both mechanics and looks. I found myself yelling at the little dudes not to run INTO the fires, but that just added to the chaos. I also appreciate that the difficulty ramp-up seems more "up and down" than just straight up. Maybe it was just random, but I feel like I got some reprieve after a couple big waves of new fires/people. Of course, a big wave is exactly what finished me off eventually, but it was quite a ride!

155 Hitmen by somestufz 2022-04-07T00:41:11Z

This is really fun! The building aspect is very cool, and I like little details like the fact the main character can absorb bullets for the VIP. I wish there was a little more visual feedback on shots that hit (both the enemies and the VIP), but I know those are the first thing to get cut in a compo. Overall, it played grea!

Knighthood by SMdG 2022-04-08T14:09:13Z

Lasers? and Knights? what's not to love! I Found this really neat. I agree with the other poster that the laser could really use some visual feedback when it's damaging the knight, but otherwise it was a joy to play. Nice job :)

Track Switching by sinus 2022-04-10T21:16:56Z

This might be my favorite game of the compo! Such a simple concept but you executed so well. Giving the upcoming train colors with a countdown on the right side really removed any excuses for my poorly-timed switching. I played a few times and I never really got an "unfair" combination where 2 trains *had* to be on the same track at the same time, so it felt like it was always my fault when I died (which is a good thing). Not sure how you managed that. Great game!

Inevitoffice by Lako 2022-04-04T03:17:25Z

I enjoyed this! I love the mix of physical and mental. You need to figure out who to talk to, but you still need to navigate the office at the end of the day. Like a pacifist FPS. The sounds were great too :)

Suppress The Press by Frostbiiten 2022-04-06T01:13:04Z

Nice job! I really enjoy the risk/reward of staying down longer to get more power, but risking not having enough time to get back and push the press back up. The art, music and mood are all simple but work perfect for this game. Great job!

The Squeel of Time by Victris Games 2022-04-08T01:18:38Z

This was fun! I've never seen anything like it! I really dig the sound effects :)

Meteor Rain by Rinko 2022-04-07T01:29:14Z

Very nice for a first game! I like the art and the particle effects :)

It's like they knew... by boc_dev 2022-04-07T01:16:36Z

This was really good! The platforming controls were just what I wanted for this type of game: lots of control but also some floatiness. The levels were just puzzely enough to be interesting, but most of the skill comes from your platforming and timing. Nice job!

Impending chemical catastrophe by codebug 2022-04-05T13:10:18Z

This was a mind bender a little bit! I had to play a few rounds to get the hang of it, but once I did, I really loved it. I don't think I've ever seen this concept in a game before and it was really cool!

It definitely delivers on the theme; even when I was getting the hang of it, that unstoppable speed-up caused a sense of terminality.

One question: is there music? I see a check box for "mute music" but I didn't hear any music at all, even when there were other sound effects playing. Maybe a browser issue?

Great game!

Glide by FloatingVertex 2022-04-07T00:55:39Z

This was a super chill and relaxing game. The aesthetic is clean and the controls are tight. The replays are really cool to boot. Nice job!

Tick Tick by J4cko16 2022-04-08T20:33:29Z

This was simple but fun! The music and pulsing sprites really amp up the urgency and add to the hectic mood. I kinda wish the algorithm couldn't pick the same water tile twice in a row, or if there was a more noticeable visual confirmation when you selected it correctly; I caught myself 'waiting' after correctly selecting a water a few times because it wasn't clear I selected right. That's a minor thing though, overall it was just good hectic fun :)

Baked Snake by ZooHair 2022-04-07T01:33:30Z

I love the weird twist on a otherwise pretty simple idea. I wish the controls were a little faster to respond, but they're very innovative overall. The art and sound are great and the whole presentation is very polished. Nice job!

LD54 — Limited Space

Wings over Bagel Bay by madjackmcmad 2023-10-03T02:54:47Z

This is so quirky and weird but I love it! It's super chaotic but also very tactical. Balancing all 4 resources while trying to do the objectives is really testing. I loved the aesthetic and overall feel!

Trouble In Paradise by Nick Rafalski 2023-10-05T22:57:33Z

@leparlon Hehe I can totally see myself making that same indexing mistake (pos.x, pos.x), glad you figured it out eventually! Calling your canal-creating-things "shots" is so funny! I can totally picture how that developed over time. Thanks for sharing the laughs, and thanks for all the kind words about my game :)

Trash Truck Hero by Nikolaj 2023-10-02T16:52:44Z

I think this plays really well! The physics are just controllable enough that it feels right, without being too rigid. I like how bumping into tress cuts them down! The sound effects are great and really immersive

Don't Skip the Ship! by Bloham 2023-10-05T01:13:27Z

I agree with most of the others saying it's a little too hard to see where the cargo can go, and the ships are just too quick to leave, but I really like the concept of the game, and especially the art overall. Nice job!

Canals by leparlon 2023-10-05T00:09:22Z

Fellow proc-gen brethren! I also spent way too much time fighting with invisible algorithms this LD, and my visual product paid the price, so I recognize and appreciate your behind the scenes work! The gameplay works great, and the theme is a slam dunk. Nice job!

Diminutive Dungeon by Rose 2023-10-02T16:57:14Z

This was great. The theme was fit perfectly with the cramped dungeon levels. I wish they were all solvable, but I understand how finicky proc-gen can be (hint: my game used it and it took up way too much of my time). The art is also super cute and cohesive. There's a lot of good subtle quality of life features like not letting the player drop down a hole *if* it would kill him. Great stuff!

Amazin' Delivery Service by candlesan 2023-10-04T13:10:50Z

This was great! There was some really good game design going on like slowly introducing the various shapes so you can learn how to handle the basic ones first. The main mechanic is just really fun, and all the little UX features (telling you how much each box is worth as it drives off, informing you that you lost $ for a dropped package, etc.) made the game super easy to understand. Great job!

Vessel Run by freamdev 2023-10-05T02:23:56Z

Man I really love the low-poly ship with the bloom of the engines and shine of the cockpit. Its simple, but it evokes a retro Asteroids vibe in a new setting (same for the asteroids). I'll admit I didn't understand what was going on when I couldn't add any more modules, but I read your comment above and it sounds like they were intentionally disabled from damage. I think this game would be great with a little more juice/UX. Nice job!

River Dance by mdotedot 2023-10-06T01:43:45Z

Lol I love gamejams for games like this. What a silly and absurd concept, but yet, it perfectly encapsulates the theme. I dig the sounds (both the toilet related, and river dance related). Nice job!

Rootin' Tootin' Zombie Shootin' by EX3D0 2023-10-04T02:48:48Z

Very cute, and the art and music are very cohesive. It seems a little unfair that the shooting zombie can shoot at arbitrary angles and I can only shoot on cardinal directions, but it was still a fun time :)

Tow To Tomorrow by GettingRekt 2023-10-05T00:32:03Z

Amazing. I have no complaints. I love everything about this game. I felt so cool when I managed to get 2 big boats into 1 read dock. I am the captain now. Great job!

Spaced out by Marcus Otterstrom 2023-10-06T01:24:42Z

This was great! I like the core of the mechanic, especially the risk/reward of trying to just let yourself coast versus using a bunch of spaces to dodge the enemies. I would definitely play a mobile version a lot. The art and sound go together great. Nice job!

Gold by Alexey Akulovich 2023-10-04T02:44:15Z

I really liked the quick time event, and the implementation of the theme. Definitely made exploring feeling more risk/reward since you wouldn't want to get to a new area with a nearly full backpack, but going back meant dealing with all those mobs you just fought through. My only criticism is the fog-of-war mechanic (specifically the tiles you've already seen going back to all-black) was kinda jarring. It seems like they should remain grayed out so you could still infer the shape of the room, but not necessarily see the mobs' movement. But overall, a great game!

PUNCH by deniskazantsev 2023-10-05T02:12:48Z

This is the most fun game I've played this LD by far! I love the main mechanic. Are the "best times" actually representing real people? Some of them seem very specific (0.866 seconds) but others seem to just be round numbers (10s for the last level). In any event, I set a new "best" on the last level, and I felt pretty proud of that, which means the game was designed well, nice job!

Turtle Gatling by Francisco Lucas 2023-10-02T16:54:58Z

I really liked this! The theme is very well integrated, with both the bullets blocking up your space, and the screen real estate just being so limited. It felt super claustrophobic, which was obviously the point. I agree the enemies were a tad too tanky, but I get what you were going for (it keeps the tension up). The art is very cohesive too!

Shipped Off by fnelix 2023-10-05T23:34:10Z

This was so good! I didn't really feel the theme until the last level, and then it started becoming so chaotic that I was piling multiples of the containers up on the docks, waiting for the right ship to put them on, while taking the containers off those ships, running out of space to put them, and arghh so frustrating (in a good way)! Everything about the game played well together, the scene, the music, the visual cues on the ships, it was as close to a perfect little jam game as I have seen in a while. Nice job!

Awesome Spaceship Dude! by BangKerpow 2023-10-05T01:25:35Z

Haha this was a blast. I love how I can change my ship parts up even after attaching them, it really makes the whole creative process of making an Awesome Spaceship, Dude, more forgiving. I love it!

Space Way by MrSamafu 2023-10-06T00:13:54Z

I'm always amazed at people who manage to make puzzle mechanics and then on top of it design a non-trivial number of levels using said mechanic during the compo. That is a real skill, and you did a great job. The ramp up in difficulty was just perfect to introduce a few new 'types' of movement that I didn't think of until you made me figure it out (going over the same tile twice, going onto and off a tile to not get stuck in a dead-end, etc.) The music was a perfect match for the low-stress chill gameplay too. Nice job!

Corridor Duels by nyxkn 2023-10-05T01:53:57Z

I love little games that do 1 thing really well, and this was that to a T. Once I understood the mechanics, I felt like a ninja dodge and blocking attacks, while getting mine in just in time. It felt really satisfying to 'mater' the mechanic, which is a testament to a well designed game. The music was also subtle but perfect. Nice job!

Earth Invades (First Godot Game) by MadR 2023-10-05T00:47:16Z

This was just a great well executed game! The controls are tight and the 2 different modes are impressive. I liked how, in the second part, I could aim the laser with the mouse, instead of just shooting straight. Is this the most innovative game of all time? no, but for what it is, it was done well!

NanoSpace by Hermetix 2023-10-05T02:33:25Z

I dig the squirmy animation of the nanites and the way the ship dips left or right when you move that way. I also found the bloom a little heavy handed, to the point it made aiming hard, but overall I had lots of fun with this. Nice job!

Indcosmus by milq 2023-10-05T01:41:30Z

I agree that the theme was not particularly well represented, but this is a really tight and well designed platformer, especially for the compo. The levels had just enough "exploration" to not feel too easy, and the slow ramp up in difficulty enabled me to learn as I went (though I stilled died more than I care to admit). Great job!

Jurassic escape by DSFAN 2023-10-04T02:34:29Z

They're uh, flocking this way!

I got to 19535. I really dig the art and the music. They work together great, and it almost felt like a rhythm game once the speed went up about 5 times. Nice job!

Now I need to go watch JP again...

Escape the ship by TNDdestroy 2023-10-03T02:23:57Z

I really liked the backgrounds and the music; it really set the mood and made me feel immersed. There was a situation on the 3rd level where I couldn't pass through a tight corner that looked passable to me, and that felt less-than-great. Overall, I really felt the time crush, and thought it was a fun game!

Out of Side by happyglitch 2023-10-04T19:02:49Z

Very limited space indeed! I think the drone controls are just right; after a few (dozen) early deaths, I got the hang of it and it felt really satisfying to navigate through the tight windows. The art is great too. Nice job!

Limited Space Game by Uni Isnor 2023-10-04T02:28:57Z

This is a such a great implementation of the theme! It's such a small thing, but having to avoid the corpses of your fallen enemies really makes you reconsider how you move and attack in a top down shooter like this. I also appreciate that the enemy bullets are relatively slow and big, as opposed to a million small fast bullets like some games in this genre do. I felt like I could 'dodge' them (I couldn't actually die, so maybe they were hitting me, we'll never know). It just really fit with the theme that your space (and movement within it) is limited!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

The Matter at Hand by Chaseplays 2018-04-27T13:18:23Z

Amazing game. The puzzle elements were awesome and the whole aesthetic works together great.

I agree with the comments about 'seeing the whole hand of cards' in the beginning, and I had the same thought as @amras0000 about putting a count number on each card instead of showing each separately. The notion of 'false solutions' would still be implicit in the level design, but not the card layout anymore. Not sure how important that features is to you.

Regardless, great mechanics, great learning curve, great levels, and great aesthetics. Great job!

Bob Ross Adventure by Goutye 2018-04-28T04:10:40Z

This was great! The puzzles get pretty challenging (I played all the way through). I had an ah-ha moment when I realized that I could turn the purple color 'on' at different points when bob was partially through it to get different trajectories (don't know why I didn't think of that originally). The art and music are both cute.

I did have some happy little accidents on the final level where Bob would get stuck if I painted 2 platforms brown that were 1 tile apart but parallel. The only solution was to paint 1 transparent, and Bob would shoot off like a rocket because of his stored momentum.

Overall, one of my favorites so far!

Fish Master by Pheonise 2018-04-23T14:27:38Z

Overall, a really good compo entry! The aesthetic is on point and definitely makes for a cohesive game. I happened to get the dragon rod my first 2 encounters, and thought the game was pretty easy, but then I got a wooden stick and I saw the real challenge!

It would be cool if there was some more variety in moves though

R-Trooper Squad by SelfTitled 2018-04-26T17:16:04Z

This was a lot of fun! The shooting and movement of the troops seemed just right to me. The graphics were cute and very readable.

It definitely has some bugs. I got the 'troops knock each other over' bug, and at some point I just couldn't select 1 trooper any more. But otherwise, a nice game. Good job!

Rhythm Jumper by Willops 2018-04-25T03:32:28Z

This was awesome! I've played 3 or 4 rhythm games for this LD, and this one hit's the sweet-spot as far as actually 'feeling' the rhythm. Better yet, it makes perfect sense with the infinite jump component. Oh, and multiple original tracks in 1 compo game? amazing!

My only criticism is that one of the tracks had a pretty loud and prominent off-beat rhythm, which I actually latched onto it more than the main beat, which was obviously problematic.

Overall, amazing!

AstroDeck by Ben Pearson 2018-04-24T15:56:31Z

I really like the concept of this game. The cards are a cool addition to the asteroids genre and make for a lot of strategy as far as what to buy and sell.

Unfortunately, I found the ship control really tedious and difficult (maybe I just suck). Also, (might just be me), but I think there are TOO many things to manage at once. Fuel, life support, metal (ammo); and they all contribute to mass? Add when to buy/sell cards to actually get points. Oh and by the way, you die with 1 touch of an asteroid. It's overwhelming.

Still, I liked the premise and overall design of the game a lot. I would play a refined/balanced version for sure.

Cowboys vs Aliens by nidup 2018-04-24T12:47:43Z

Really solid game! The different guns add a lot of diversity and strategy.

The text is funny, but it's hard to read some of the fly-up texts in the heat of battle.

The aesthetic is really cohesive, from the art to the sfx and music. Great job!

Jump Beat by notime4games 2018-04-23T16:47:55Z

Technically, this is really cool. The rhythm game part feels pretty fun by itself, and the platforming is good too.

Unfortunately, I think the two combined is still a little clunky. Am I supposed to strive for 100% rhythm accuracy at the expense of missing jumps? If I only focus on the platforming, then I just wait around a lot for the right action note to float down.

Overall, this is still impressive for a jam game though. The art and music are very cohesive and there is a lot of polish. Good work!

Text-Gen Platformer by agentparsec 2018-04-23T16:27:37Z

This was really fun! I agree with @saoi-games that some typical terminal use-ability features would be nice, especially tab-complete.

I think the level design was pretty good for a game jam too! I definitely felt like I had enough time to type the required commands, it was just about executing.

Nice Job!

Spawn & Blade by Pecolyte 2018-04-25T14:46:29Z

Very interesting concept! I liked the 'never retreat, never surrender' aspect a lot. The attacking also felt very satisfying; it seemed to have a very generous hitbox.

I think parrying was kind of weak though since it still moved your dude backwards (and they're essentially expendable anyway). it'd be cool if it deflected the bullets or something more useful.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Good Job!

Harvest Royale by neverautomatic 2018-04-25T22:03:42Z

Wow that was intense, my fruit stockpile was in the 90s when the blight was essentially all around me. I was down to like 10 total tiles, 4 of which were farmable. I kept watering and watering and hoping, and I made it to 100 just in time! It was quite an experience!

My only complaint is that in the beginning, I just started farming on the nearest farmable spot I spawned by, because I didn't know any better. Well that was a short-lived experiment as it was near the border, and my crops were overtaken by the darkness ASAP. Moved to the middle, and had much more success.

Overall, really fun!

Rythm In Space by elektropapst 2018-04-27T18:51:18Z

Once I figured out what was going on, it was actually really really fun. I found myself bobbing my head along to the beat. The music is really catchy an easy to get into a groove with.

Great job!

Goose Typing Attack by ehtd 2018-04-26T17:22:25Z

Amazing. Just a perfectly executed succinct little game. I wish there was some score (# of words used, time?) so I could try to beat my best score over and over. Regardless, I had a lot of fun with it

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-23T17:39:37Z

@Memel06 I really wanted to make your strategy of knocking the floor out from enemies work, but I coded myself into a corner with their physics that I couldn't solve in time. You're smart to think that way though!

@good-enough Thanks! I'm not familiar with that game, and a quick google search turns up a bunch of different results, what are you talking about specifically? Regardless, thanks for the kind words :)

@fantum I think you summed up most of the problems with the game haha! It was definitely a bit too big a scope for my abilities. Glad you see the promise though!

@Pixelhurricane The slowness is definitely a major drag, I know. Enemies that are 'very far' away already instantly teleport to their new position, but waiting for 3 or 4 enemies that aren't far enough away can be feel awkward. Wish I'd come up with a better solution, but c'est la vie. Thanks for the kind words!

@swen Thanks! That beam was my favorite thing to develop for the whole game. The first time I added the particle effects and saw it kill a bunch of stuff, I was grinning from ear-to-ear. Glad you liked it!

@bcvery1 Definitely slow, and I wish I found a way to speed it up. Thanks for the kind words about the audio! It's definitely not my strong-suit but I always have fun making up sfx/music for jams!

@agentendercake Agreed on the pace, wish I had found a better solution than waiting for every enemy. Thanks for the kind words!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-23T20:40:29Z

@good-enough Thanks for the positive comments! The laser beam was definitely the most fun to implement! You brought up a bunch of cool ideas that I may have to add in a post-jam version; especially pushing blocks with your movement! As for the flight trajectory parabola, there is actually a 'preview line' available for jumps and dashes (click the 'P' button on the card) that will show you the trajectory. It does NOT take into account the physics of hitting blocks and stopping, but it's a start! Thanks again for playing and all the feedback

@John-Darrington Thanks for the kind words! I hope you don't judge the source code too harshly, it's some of the worst spaghetti code I've ever written. This game definitely pushed me to my limits as far as what I can produce in 48 hours. Thanks for playing!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-23T20:49:27Z

@coldmoose Wow thank you so much for the positive feedback. You're definitely right about keeping 1 of every card in your deck. Originally, the enemies and obstacles were going to be a lot more dynamic, so you'd likely die if you waited and re-drew your hand every turn, but I never implemented all the things that would make it harder (moving platforms, smarter enemies, etc). You're also right about the pace. I wait for every enemy nearby to take his turn in serial, so with 3 or 4 enemies, you can be waiting quite a while. If I did it again, I'd make all enemies move at once, but I just didn't think it was that big a problem till everything came together. Thanks again for playing, and especially the compliments!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-24T20:24:08Z

@isopoly Thanks for taking the time to play, and especially the kind words :)

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-24T22:35:20Z

@jhandsy Thanks so much for the positive words! You're right about wanting to use multiple cards. It was a design choice to make it very grid-aligned and turn-based (so you could better plan-out your moves), but I have to admit it makes it kinda slow; maybe even boring.

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-25T02:37:07Z

@CaptainPilot Thanks a lot for the feedback! I agree it can be kinda slow. Thanks for playing!

@gamesplusjames Thanks for the kind words! I totally get what you mean about waiting. I make you wait for every enemy to take his turn in serial. In reality, I could make them all go at once, and it would speed it up a ton. Thanks for your feedback!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-25T03:10:20Z

@GastricSparrow Wow thanks for the compliments! The card graphics are about the only art-related things that got a second-pass because I knew their readability would be important. Glad it came across! Thanks for playing and the feedback!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-25T14:32:14Z

@Maduke Thanks for the compliments and feedback!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-25T18:19:53Z

@GhostRunners25 Wow thanks for all the kind words! You're definitely right about the polish, but I'm so glad you had fun!

@FussenKuh Thank you for the feedback and compliments!

@Snowy Wow 'spoke to me' is such a great compliment to hear. Even more so when it's a genre of game you aren't fond of. Beyond the slow pace, you're also right about the difficulty. I failed to allocate enough time to make truly challenging levels, and that is one of my biggest regrets. Live and learn! Thanks for playing!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-26T00:08:45Z

@mikedirl I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks so much for the compliments!

@Richard-n-silva Wow I'm flattered! I have seen quite a few card-game/platformers so far, though I'll admit mine is one of the few turn-based ones. FYI, there is a blue 'preview' arc when you click the 'P' button on the jump cards that'll show where you'll go. For some inexplicable reason, I didn't mention this anywhere in the game, or on the this page, so I don't blame you for not noticing it. Thanks again for the feedback :)

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-26T13:33:40Z

@neverautomatic Thanks for the kind words! My artistic abilities are definitely lacking, but I did try to make them as readable as possible. Really glad you liked it!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-26T21:28:48Z

@olivier-millochau Your english is just fine! Thank you so much for the compliments. You could very likely be correct about the hand-crafted levels. Without great algorithms, procedural generation can be pretty bland. Alas, it was my only option when I was up against the deadline on Sunday night still implementing major features. Thanks again for the feedback and kind words!

@helpcomputer Thank you so much! I'm always humbled by the positive feedback on my silly sfx and music. Thanks for playing!

@RaccoonLudos That makes my day to hear you'd click the discard button just to hear my silly sfx! Thanks for the feedback!

@tsjost You managed to find an accidentally left-in feature! Hitting the 'D' key automatically brings up the deck-builder, even though it's only supposed to show up before a new level. Whoops! You're right about the deck-builder not being very useful. I give you 7 pretty useful cards right away, and there isn't much need to customize your deck. I was hoping to have more card types, and require the user to customize his deck to have hopes of beating harder levels, but I ran out of time. The small cards are a bug. They're no different than the regular sized ones, but for some reason their scale changes when I move them around the various UI states (deck, hand, discard). Never figured it out in time! Overall, thanks for the great feedback! I really like your sequence/queue idea too!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-27T03:01:16Z

@JanGamesDev Thanks for playing! There is actually a 'preview' line that shows where you'll go for jumps and dashes if you press the 'P' button on those cards. It isn't smart enough to take collisions into effect, and there is no preview for the laser, but it was a start! Thanks again for playing and the compliments!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-28T03:06:49Z

@jchaplin Thank you for the compliments!

@Schu Thanks so much for the feedback! You're definitely right about the slow pace, and that 'destroy the ground in front of you' is definitely a failing on my part as a level designer. A few people have commented on that. Thanks for playing and for the compliments!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-28T04:13:12Z

@LeviDSmith Thanks for playing and the great feedback! The only 'penalty' for reshuffling the deck is that you don't get to move/jump on that turn. I originally planned for there to be many more dynamic obstacles (shooting enemies, enemies that seek you out, etc) and not moving for a turn might get you killed. As it turned out, the game is pretty tame and you'll rarely be in that position unless you put yourself there on purpose. Thanks again for the compliments!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-28T14:33:39Z

@Zirrrus Thanks for the kind words! 'Janky' is definitely a fair word to describe the physics. I tried to keep everything aligned to the grid, so that the player can better plan out their movements and end up in predictable situations. So I kinda ungracefully manipulate the physics in a couple ways to achieve that. Thanks for playing!

@Goutye Wow thanks for the compliment! You are spot-on about the deck building. I originally wanted to only give the players very few boring cards (dash-1, jump-1) at the start, and slowly increase the level complexity, while allowing them to buy more cards. Harder levels would also require more specific cards, like 2 dash-3s in a row, etc. But I ran out of time to make a good level progression and went with the procedural route, which meant I had to make sure the player had all the cards necessary to overcome any obstacle from the start. Anyway, thanks for the great feedback and for playing!

Flatformer by Nick Rafalski 2018-04-30T13:49:36Z

@Chaseplays I definitely agree about it being too easy. Thanks for the kind words!

Space Maths by mikedirl 2018-04-25T01:30:34Z

Really fun concept! I enjoyed that it challenged my twitch-based gaming skills, as well as my thinking power at the same time.

I agree with some of the other criticisms, namely that, after a certain point, the gates come too fast and the gates take too many hits to kill in time.

Still, I really enjoyed playing, and the audio is really underrated. The background music is great!

Great job!

Sneaky Beats by gamesplusjames 2018-04-25T01:06:01Z

This was really fun. The rhythm parts were the highlight for me, but the stealth mechanics added something extra to the rhythm by adding another pressure.

Overall, the game has a super high level of polish. The menus and sound effects are all great.

My only criticism is that there were only 3 rhythm parts! I'm sure it was a time issue, so I understand. I would play a whole game around this mechanic for sure!

Dungeonball by Gurbx 2018-04-25T15:58:26Z

This was fun! This is definitely one of the best mashups of genres I've seen so far. The dungeon-crawling is surprisingly sophisticated for such a short amount of time (locks n keys, etc).

Oh, and as everybody else has said, the graphics and overall aesthetic are great too. Just a great entry!

WarCard by gagapete 2018-04-27T14:06:18Z

I liked it! A little too easy, but that is to be expected in a gamejam setting where there isn't enough time to finely tune the game. Better too easy than too hard anyway.

I really liked the aesthetics. The smoky battlefield was a nice touch.

Good job!

Crazy Cube by YANIV 2018-04-26T15:05:42Z

@Dan-violet-sagmiller and @Plopsis Do you have an Ad-blocker on? It wouldn't start for me until I disabled my adblocker and refreshed the page. Just something to try

@YANIV Very cool concept. One of the most cohesive genre combinations I've seen this LD. The level design is good too! Lots of interesting little moments and puzzles for such a short time frame. Great job!

Turn-Based Invaders from Space! by HacksawUnit 2018-04-23T13:39:23Z

Very polish and focused. A great implementation of the theme. Lots of great polish like the command window floating to the correct side, and the waiting cursor animation.

It's a real shame that it doesn't seem win-able though. The green guys pumping out new enemies every turn seems kind of overpowered.

Dragoon Drop by jhandsy 2018-04-24T21:23:08Z

Wow this is so awesome! I too did a turn-based-card-game-platformer mashup (shameless plug: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/flatformer) but I can confidently say yours is way better. (It's a compo game FWIW).

The little quality of life things (like being able to choose the direction based on the mouse position) really make this a joy to play.

It is also probably obvious, but the art and music are just gorgeous and really work well together.

Great job!

Fightwriter by Anudin 2018-04-25T14:30:51Z

This was a ton of fun, and a great implementation of the theme. The firing mechanic and command queue mechanic set this apart from other typing games I've played this jam.

My only gripe is that it's really hard to line up shots, and sometimes even movements. I think the game would have benefited from being grid-aligned so that you could really plan out your moves (and attacks) more precisely.

Overall, I really liked the game. The writing was also very enjoyable :)

Nosy God Car Racing by JanGamesDev 2018-04-26T15:29:02Z

Really cool concept! It really gives you a sense of control, albeit indirect, on the win/loss outcome. The abilities were cool, but it seems like I really only needed 2 (boost, lightning).

Personally, even with the hotkeys, I still found it clunky to have to press the car I desired. This made changing lanes kind of pointless because by the time I clicked the right ability, and got my cursor over the intend target, the situation had changed enough to make it moot. A system like @Slashee-the-cow mentioned might solve this.

Still, it was a ton of fun, and a great mashup of genres! Nice job!

Think Hockey by RilleP 2018-04-25T17:10:10Z

This is great! There is tons of depth and complexity here, especially for 48 hours. I don't know how you did it. Maybe I just suck, but the AI seemed pretty smart to me. Even going as far as passing backwards to a far away defenseman who had a clear shooting lane, and scored! I had to add that to my playbook after I saw it.

Just awesome!

Punch Rock Scissors by ryzy27 2018-04-28T03:49:14Z

This was so much fun! Getting into a groove and stringing a bunch of right moves together to kill stick-men felt so satisfying! It's also a really great design aspect to add another move to the enemies' queue when you miss. Makes you incentivized to be accurate vs spamming.

My only negative is that the stick-men, and particular the character's moving animation, don't have nearly the same level of polish as the background/trees. It's super impressive that those background assets are your first time making 2D sprites, so you obviously have the potential! I would have liked to see what you could do by swapping your time commitment from the backgrounds to the characters (which the player focuses on 90% of the time).

Still, a great and legitimately fun game!

Wandering Rogue by ArBe 2018-04-25T03:02:01Z

This was just a really fun game. The best parts were the (very interesting!) jumping mechanic, and the level generation. Very impressive for a jam game.

My only critique is that I didn't really feel the rogue-likeness of it. It just felt like a cool (good!) platformer.

Oh, I also didn't mind the audio at all! The jump SFX really reinforced the fact that it's your primary weapon

Dicey by Tim Eriksen 2018-04-23T13:30:40Z

I really like the concept! Making everything diced-based from attacking/defending to even jumping between encounters, was a really good use of the theme.

The upgrade system is quite nice for such a short time frame.

I just wish the actual combat rules were explained somewhere (unless I missed them?). I am still not 100% what they are.

The graphics are actually very pleasing for being so minimal.

Nice job!

Run N' Cook by LeonLaci 2018-04-24T14:18:17Z

Fun idea, and fun to play! I like lobbing potatoes with the potato gun!

The art is cute, and the idea is pretty unique. Though, I'm not sure it's there is much 'incompatibility' going on with the 2 ideas. It mostly is just a run-n-gun with a specific setting.

Good job!

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-24T14:51:42Z

Overall, it was a fun experience!

The sound effects and visual effects combined for a good-feeling shooting experience.

I couldn't seem to get the shotgun to shoot any direction except straight forward. Not sure if that was user error, or by design, but it felt like an unnecessary restriction.

All in all, a fun game!

Crystal Turrets by GhostRunners25 2018-04-25T15:43:46Z

I agree with the consensus that it's too easy, but I really like the potential for this genre-combination concept. With multiple waves, multiple turret types, and some more dynamic enemies, this could be really fun.

As it stands, I already like your art direction. The zombies are cute and the effects like blood and bullets are very cohesive. Nice job!

Karaoke Ninja by GastricSparrow 2018-04-25T02:48:43Z

super novel concept! I love it. There was a funny moment where a platform lifted a red-ninja up to the heavens, so I thought I was in the clear, and then he fell back down to earth, only to land right on (and thus kill) me! I literally laughed out loud

Great stuff!

Basketball Wars by Samuel Henderson 2018-04-24T20:55:46Z

For all it's faults, it's actually a fun game. The challenge is high enough that, when you actually manage to dunk, you feel accomplished. After you learn how to survive longer than 2 seconds (hint: strafe!), you feel the desire to push the envelope of just how long you can survive before dunking.

Great Job!

Naturalist Royale - Online! by Chris Hall 2018-04-24T22:13:45Z

Pretty fun game! I like the little polished elements like the name generator, and the animations.

I wish there was a little more complexity (obstacles, etc), but it's totally understandable for jam game.

Really fun exploring the different biomes and trying to find all 10!

Nice job!

Fish & Ships by Jnyrr5 2018-04-27T19:41:10Z

This is so charming! The aesthetics are great, from the graphics to the sound, even the UI.

I really appreciated how 'forgiving' the game is. It seems like the hitboxes are generous, and so is the timing as far as when you hook a fish or not. This made it super fun to play and not frustrating at all.

It would have been cool to see some different behaviors from the ships though. Maybe a speed-boat that starts out slow, but randomly darts toward you. Or a drunken pirate boat that zig-zags to make it harder to hit. Something other than the same straight-line, constant speed of all the current ships.

Regardless, it was still a joy to play, and very polished!

This was very unique! Definitely made you think, and the level progression was just right, great job on that!

While I'll agree with others that the controls were pretty floaty, it did seem like you added some logic/colliders to prevent the character from slipping off the platforms too easily. That was an appreciated touch.

Great job!

Adventure of the Lone Adventurer by prv 2018-04-23T04:45:31Z

Great mood thanks to the combination of graphics and awesome music!

The gameplay is kind of awkward unfortunately. It's kinda hard to see the enemy bullets, and I'm not really clear on how I got cards.

Definitely got into it after a while though (again, great music)!

Physics Fighter by Vasco Freitas 2018-04-28T03:32:27Z

This was really fun! The physics are great and so are the animations! I wish the level design was a little more interesting, but I can definitely relate to running out of time (even more so with a new engine, yikes!). I would definitely play more of this

GUN-HOCKEY by isopoly 2018-04-24T02:47:34Z

Really feels fun and rewarding. The shooting mechanic is perfect in my opinion. The sound effects are wonderful too.

I was total trash at the game. Much more likely to score on myself than the AI, but I had to play 4 rounds just to try (0 for 4!) Really fun!

This was really fun!

Sometimes it felt like my attacks weren't connecting when they should, but it mostly felt great.

The halftime body-zamboni was an awesome touch! Great job!

TS 3001 by Alex Ferbrache 2018-04-26T17:58:08Z

Yeah, it's short, but it's well put together. The mechanic make perfect sense together, and the puzzle element is great. Great job!

5/5 Humor for sure!

Crescendo by VivianMochi 2018-04-25T01:21:30Z

Probably the best execution of the theme I have seen so far. It really changes how you think about platforming.

I do agree with the general consensus that it's too hard. If you could somehow add some fudge factor to how loud you can be for certain jumps/dashes, without it being an insta-fail when you're off by a few frames, that'd make it a lot more satisfying.

Still, everything about the game, other than the difficulty was spot on. The graphics are minimal, but have tons of character, and the audio is superb.

Great job!

Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-04-25T15:24:23Z

This is probably the most polished and complete game I've played for this LD so far! Everything about the presentation is crisp and awesome.

I really appreciate some of the subtle helpful features like accepting misspelled inputs and jumping onto ledges when maybe you shouldn't quite make it.

My only critique is that it was pretty hard to time the running and jumping in some cases, but that could just be my slow reflexes.

Overall, one of the best games I've played!

Card Coded by Pixelhurricane 2018-04-23T05:05:31Z

This is awesome. I, too, tried to make a deck-building platformer. Yours is a much more polished, focused product. I'm seriously jealous.

Unlike a lot of games I'm seeing, yours actually showcases both genres about 50/50 by requiring strategic card usage, as well as platformer timing to succeed.

Everything fits the aesthetic great, and there is a ton of polish from the card animations to level-cleared-effect. Great job.

Elemental Monk by Biterkid 2018-04-26T15:55:36Z

Very cool concept and an overall great entry. While small in scope, it seems complete and novel, making it a great game jam game.

My biggest gripe is that the randomness seemed unfair at times. Getting rooms with only 2 or 3 guys made for easy escapes and elements-hording. Getting a few 4-guy rooms in a row basically seemed like an instant-death, unless I'm missing something. My high score was only 18 lol

Overall, very thought provoking and cool though!
