Very cool mechanics :)

nightmaresdev 2018-12-03 09:11

I really enjoy those rigid physics. Damn it is freezing.

paperjack 2018-12-03 09:12

I felt cold while playing!

bgamedev 2018-12-03 09:19

Nice idea and very COOL mechanics :) Mood and sounds fits very well and theme is also excellently realized. Good game.

fnissalot 2018-12-03 09:23

Cool mechanics, haunting audio, and the the physics is moodsetting even if sometimes the physics is wonky.

antti-tiihonen 2018-12-03 09:29

Thanks everyone!

@fnissalot yeah. In addition to the basic clumsiness it can be easy to make the physics go a bit poltergeist-y at times.

oxeren 2018-12-03 09:32

Awesome! Very holistic and complete game - that's a very impressive feat that's very hard to achieve in a game jam.

antti-tiihonen 2018-12-03 09:40

Thank you @oxeren I was super motivated this time and worked hard once I got the core mechanics at least somewhat functional. :fist:

james-leib 2018-12-03 10:36

I really like this game. Great idea and almost perfect execution. Hard to find something to give feedback on! My biggest complaint would be that I have to guess what the text says in some places. Maybe a more rigid UI would be better.

aycan 2018-12-03 10:45

This game is hilarious. I loved the control implementation, quite polished and no glitches. fyi, I didn't hear any audio when playing HTML5 version, but it may be a problem with my browser.

cqcumbers 2018-12-03 13:53

I'm really impressed with the atmospheric music and especially the freeze sound effect - it fits with the game so well. The concept is great and the art is very good. If I had to criticize anything I think it would be great if the levels were more like puzzles, as currently the difficulty is often in being patient with the physics.

artbohr 2018-12-03 14:19

Nice mechanics, cool idea. The only thing I didn't like is that you always reset the player at the start which makes it a bit tidious to go all again to the same place. Also nice graphics and the feel of movement.

marc-garcia-penche 2018-12-03 15:17

Amazing, had a lot of fun!

conk 2018-12-03 16:48

That was sick! Both literally and figuratively... Everything is incredibly solid and I had a great time playing :grinning:! Last level was a bit odd as I ended up floating away on my own frozen corpse. Sacrifices were indeed made!

marcos-donnantuoni 2018-12-03 22:27

Excellent game, please develop it more later!

ravarion 2018-12-04 00:40

The sound is too creepy~ Awesome game, good job!

antti-tiihonen 2018-12-04 05:36

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated!

@cqcumbers Spot on. If I had an extra day, I'd probably spend it mostly on more interesting levels. @artbohr Agreed. The idea there was that you'd have to do strong enough structures that they last for more than a quick scramble through but it ends up being pretty frustrating on the bigger levels.

hectigo 2018-12-04 09:21

An appropriate game for the season. :) A bit wonky mechanics at times but nice presentation, especially audio. Kinda wish that you would've kept that ballerina you had earlier in development for extra artsiness.

antti-tiihonen 2018-12-04 11:34

@hectigo Hah, yeah. The ballerina was fun and it suited the janky movement style perfectly but the game somehow felt more cruel with that character when I implemented the freezing effect. However if I am going to develop this further, I'm probably going to implement a switchable character so the ballerina could still make a return some day . Thanks!

boundtotheearth 2018-12-04 12:58

Great game! I kind of wonder how you managed to implement that wonky movement. It looks like the legs are attaching to the "ground" areas and pulling the body along? Anyways, one of my favorites so far!

antti-tiihonen 2018-12-04 16:37

@boundtotheearth Thanks. Here's a summary of how the movement works: I scatter a bunch of "marker" points into the level and on the climbers any time they are frozen. The feet search for the closest marker (with a cooldown so that they don't stutter between targets too rapidly on ambiguous situations) and are attracted towards it . The actual movement of the character however happens by pulling the character by its head. The legs just try to keep up with the movement of the rest of the body and that's how the "walking" and climbing happens.

mashas 2018-12-07 13:52

The Freezetration! :D What a solid compo entry and a great fit for the theme. A bit like a single player "Mount your friends".

In the beginning I tried to carefully place the climbers but my pyramids still collapsed after a while so in the later levels I just ran to the top and hit freeze. Not sure which one was more efficient. I managed to finish the final level sacrificing about 150 climbers in total. \o/ I would have liked a win screen showing the total score to increase replayability.

A great game with lovely visuals and sounds. I enjoyed this very much. Well done!

nick-rafalski 2018-12-07 15:11

Wow that is hands down one of the most unique and cool mechanics I've seen in my 5 Ludum Dares! And it feels so solid and polished! I honestly kept waiting for it to get buggy/glitchy or feel awkward. It never did. The Audio of the game is also very subtly impressive. Nice game!

dunin 2018-12-07 15:42

Funny mechanic and physic!

I had to sacrifice more than a hundred climbers, alas!

wiredoverload 2018-12-08 02:02

I do love this game for really pushing the sacrifice theme and for making the entire game feel polished with the sound and physics. That said you can occasionally skip a level if you just spam space as the connections can bug out a bit when pulled in multiple different directions; however I was also playing on the web build with a 144hz monitor which didn't help. Great game!

randomphantom 2018-12-08 05:03

Really great mechanic and gameplay was tight. My gripe would be the physics getting really wonky and causing the body parts to pop in and out. Couldn't manage to get to the end too as the game somehow restarted. Otherwise really cool entry.

hitchh1k3r 2018-12-08 06:02

The last level was pretty hard, I ended up spamming people until I had some crazy physics bugs whizzing around, then round that tornado of frozen body parts to the end (I was surprised it worked ^_^).

 Either I need to turn up the heat, or you are very good at conveying a feeling. The wind sound, cool colors, and frozen bodies... good work.

:point_right: The game has a really cool and unique take on the stacking people games (I'm particularly interested in how they "decayed" over time in this). It strongly reminds me of "We The Giants." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSG2iYU8vIc

:star:Overall excellent job, I really enjoyed playing this!

antti-tiihonen 2018-12-08 06:43

Thank you very much, everyone! Nice to hear that all of you seemed to enjoy the game, despite the occasionally janky physics

@randomphantom Ah, that's just where my time ran out (or where my laziness got the best of me). The game just loops back to the first level instead of having a proper ending. So yeah, you beat the game!

@wiredoverload, @hitchh1k3r Ooohh, I hadn't thought that you could complete the levels like that with the frozen-body-tornado physics bug. Makes sense since I don't think I check if the person touching the flag is frozen or not.

nnnikki 2018-12-08 09:50

The best game on LD43 I've played so far.

recursor 2018-12-09 01:43

This is an excellent idea for the theme executed very well. I love the puzzle aspect, and the way the little guy moves feels good. The occasionally "janky" physics are part of the charm of the game and provide unexpected situations.

wowa 2018-12-09 15:14

The art, music and sfx fit together perfectly and creating a great atmosphere! I tried to find something negative but, it's actually very well in the way it is. Great work!

nanocube75 2018-12-10 03:18

this has to be one of my favourites!!! loved it :))

efealacamli 2018-12-10 08:15

Awesome game! Character movement is very funky but we feel that we have the control. Great job!

krzymsky 2018-12-10 11:13

Love the character movement, great game!

fobia 2018-12-10 17:08

I join the comment ↑. Character movement is hypnotizing -)

jihem 2018-12-12 18:00

I like the character movement :-) Let it climb the corpses is a real pleasure... This sentence sounds odd but it's true :-)

nekonyo 2018-12-12 20:25

I love the mechanics of the player but I missed some kind of story or ending in addition to the game

kciwsolb 2018-12-13 15:51

10/10 would build a pile of frozen corpses again.

gizmolo 2018-12-14 05:06

lol this game is hilarious. Great sfx, great art, and great mechanics. Very original for an LD game and I like to see that. 5 stars!

ddrkirbyisq 2018-12-17 06:33

Wow lol. Some of the later levels were definitely a bit jank when many climbers were required (limbs flying around everywhere and other physics oddities...I've had similar things happen in Unity before when 2d physics settings and joints aren't quite tuned properly), but this was super fun lol. I also experienced a similar bug in the last level with one of the "tornado limbs" finishing the level, but I feel like I got to experience pretty much all of the game anyways. Would love a post-mortem devblog writeup about how you architected the physics ragdolling movement and limb attach points!

acaral 2018-12-17 13:55

I had fun

and i laughed

and I found your concept very interesting.

Nice idea with a real replay value.

driagonv 2018-12-21 13:11

I had quite a bit of fun! a kind of different spin on this common mechanic. *so many climbers spam frozen*

g12345 2018-12-26 21:54

I just played the game... Didn't managed to finish the final level, but it's all fun.

There are many games where you use your previous bodies to reach new places, but this one is different because all the physics over the place. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I can't do physics in 48 hours, so this is impressive enough!

https://imgur.com/qYExzsH (can't link large images, so i used imgur instead)

2019-03-15 12:08

In the final level, my bodys were blown by the wind, I stepped on them, and then flew to the opposite platform, and then passed the levelw(゜ Д゜ )w Love this game.
