Good game, however, the controls feel a bit unresponsive and the "hitbox" is I think a bit too large. I fell into holes where I felt, I wasn't over it. Otherwise neat!

Nicely done! I like the art style and animations, really takes it up a notch. I think you could just clean it up a little more if you limited the player's and creature's movement to the tiles as well. The mix between the two feels a bit funky and it would solve some problems with hit detection and clarity.
I couldn't seem to shoot at all (web version). Clicking didn't seem to do much. There was also a lot of sprite jittering that was difficult to look at, I think when new holes were added (which was very often). I also had problems that sometimes a hole would spawn underneath me and that caused the game to lock up indefinitely. Sometimes the screen would also just flash really rapidly.
Art is good, fonts are clear and music sounds "retro" which was cool.
Nice work, very solid entry here. I do agree on the hit boxes, my first couple tries I ended up dieing when it looked like I wasn't over a hole, but yeah, nice job!
Nice use of theme. The game could be greatly improved with tighter and more responsive controls. Hitboxes were funky, definitely make sure that it is obvious where hitboxes begin and end
@incobalt the web version definitely has some bugs in it, but I haven't seen these particular issues. What browser are you using?
@derpylz @doomshmuck @nick-girardo thanks for the feedback regarding hitboxes. It seems my last minute changes to the character's animations may have messed it up.
@ramanujo thanks for the feedback. That probably would make it easier on the player to get a feel for the movement more easily.
@andre-van-zuydam thanks for playing!
@nicksmaddog Just Chrome (v. 68.0.3440.106, which is probably the latest).
@incobalt sigh, yes I do see these issues in Chrome. I'll try to get them fixed, as it's pretty much unplayable. Firefox and the downloadable versions are working fine.
Thank you for sharing your game with me. I played it on my stream tonight at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames
I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.

Hmm. I really wanted to understand this game, but it doesn't work in my brain. Seems like the only way to play is to move backwards while shooting at the creatures? (I tried the web version first, saw your notes, and then tried the Windows version.)
It's a great concept though, and went superbly with the theme.
As others pointed out, the hitboxes seem off.
The audio was incredible.
@randytayler thanks for playing the game! You should be able to move in all directions, and change the way your character faces by moving the mouse.
Great concept! I really like the idea of having consequences for shooting so the player doesn't just spam shooting as much as possible. A great take on the theme! however, I have to agree with the others about the hitboxes, and the fact that shooting while moving forward is basically suicide. Still a fun game and a great concept! Nice job!
Had trouble in Google Chrome. :( I'll give it another try tomorrow!
I like the theme interpretation, though the game could be more polished
It took a minute to get used to the shooting mechanic/consequence, so I wouldn't kill myself each time being near a rock or a well, which was a good challenge. I like your take on the theme as well, nice job!
As many said, there are problems with the controls and hitboxes. Maybe your shot should also have a shadow and hit enemies accordingly, it's weird to shoot left/right a little below the enemy (so your hand is at it's height) and hit it.
Anyway, I was able to overcome all that and have a little more fun after I found a bug , when you're close to the bottom wall (in fact, also the top and right ones), your shots don't destroy the floor. Limiting the movement to tiles should solve that.
Here's me cursing at the game and rage-quitting after falling into an invisible hole ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yDyS27Iams
I couldn't play on Chrome nor Firefox. In Chrome 68.0.3440.84, the game just shakes whenever I try to shoot and then I get stuck in an infinite loop of shaking, and in Firefox 61.0.2, the tab crashes after a few seconds.
