LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Infernoculus by icxon 2018-04-25T01:42:34Z

This was a great game. I really liked the art and idea. The music became a little monotonous since strategy games tend to last so long, but not terribly so. Is it a bug that you can just kill everyone and score as many times as you want? 🤔

Anti-Terror Bot by Ellian 2018-04-24T23:12:10Z

This game is really good. I felt like the camera needs a little help if you're just falling since it'll let you sit at the bottom of the screen so you don't have any idea what's coming up. I also could have used a little more contrast between the very dark buildings and the rather dark background. Nitpicks like these are a sign of a really good idea and game, though. I'm super into it.

Toodee and Topdee by dietzribi 2018-04-25T18:51:05Z

This is a really great concept. My main gripe is that I'm not a big fan of redoing entire levels because of a spike death. Still, the art and music are really great and overall you did so well with this.

Goodnight Meowmie by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-05-03T05:23:11Z

Not sure what's wrong. I don't hear any sound at all with any of the three links (Chrome, other Unity games are working), still, the mood and play is pretty darn good, so I'll come back again later.

Edit: Seems like it's a Chrome problem. Some other games aren't working as well now, but they work in Edge. Unfortunately Edge doesn't support WebGL2, so I might just have to sit this one out.

Goodnight Meowmie by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-05-04T18:38:57Z

@DDRKirbyISQ I figured it out! I popped into the console and noticed this warning:

> The AudioContext was not allowed to start. It must be resume (or created) after a user gesture on the page. https://goo.gl/7K7WLu

So I refreshed and clicked the game a few times while it was loading (because I was waiting for the start screen to click before), and it worked! Might have something to do with how you're hosting it on your website? Might also be worth reporting to Unity.

Oh, and for the record: Chrome v66.0.3359.139, Win 10 x64.

Rock Bottom by Jungle 2018-04-24T06:46:00Z

I really loved the content of this game. The music and graphics work wonders to set the mood. But the gameplay was a little disappointing. The running was really uneventful. It could have been more fun if there was any reason to let go of the right arrow. Also I found the lo-fi power up sounds really out of place against the lovely piano music.

Idle Hatcher by wrexialmt 2018-05-03T05:46:08Z

Unfortunately, the lack of feedback on the rhythm portion lead me to learn that the best way to play is just spam spacebar. You get points for the near misses as well as the perfects. Normally a rhythm game would remove the pulses in order so this kind of thing doesn't happen. Also the ability to farm via the clicker shortly removes the need to play the rhythm game. Some clickers use the clicking part as a temporary bonus to the auto farm to keep it relevant.

I definitely think this has plenty of potential. I really like the virtual pet/collectable aspect, even though there's not too much showing. Also the music was lovely and I haven't gotten tired of it yet despite it looping while I write this.

A Type Of Rhythm by Space_man 2018-04-25T00:30:26Z

I think my computer has a notable amount of sound delay so it definitely took some getting used to the timing, but the music was quite good and the words brought a little humour in, so I really enjoyed getting wrecked by this typing game.

Submerge by ectucker1 2018-04-25T00:16:36Z

I really liked the art, the music and the idea, but it was too easy. Circle strafing beats everything that comes straight at you, especially because you can leave the screen and use the enemy directions to tell where you are. And the bosses are even easier. Cthulu boss's design/moveset was pretty interesting, but he was way too easy because you spend most of your time sitting still wailing on him.

Wizsnooks by kroltan 2018-05-03T04:49:37Z

Not too much to say that hasn't been already, but I definitely enjoyed your game. The concept is really, really great. I just wish there was more content so I could keep playing!

I will echo that the physics didn't seem all that accurate. I'm no billiards pro, but the balls didn't roll or bounce as much as I'd hope, and glancing shots didn't work well either, so I'd usually do lots of small taps so I could always get a straight shot.

Also I rolled a rare hat and sword early and easily went 6 maps until I made a hasty mistake into lava. I'd expect there to be a bit more of a power curve normally, but the drops seemed random...

BlipBlapBall by Schu 2018-04-24T21:30:43Z

I really like all the random names for things. I agree that it was confusing when you score but the sound effect helped quite a bit. All in all, I found it pretty darn fun!

Blocks'N'Blaster by HPMNK 2018-04-26T17:50:04Z

Dang, I thought it would too hard to play, but my first score was 491900. As long as you keep stuff under control in the beginning, it's not too bad. When you start to mess up, it really snowballs, though. It makes me wish there was some way you could get a little more precision on the aiming, either by diagonal aiming or jumping on the tetris structure. Still, I definitely enjoyed it. The art was great. The music was a little repetitive, but wasn't annoying.

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-04-25T01:16:08Z

Dang, this is really good. The hitboxes felt a little wonk, though, I had troubles telling when I would get hit and when I was going to hit. Still, I loved basically everything.

Space Captain Rodriguez by CalebLewis 2018-04-24T21:55:41Z

I really like this idea and the anime sticker aesthetic, but the keyboard controls are so weird that I couldn't play it well. I will try again later with a controller since that like how it was intended. The music choice was not bad, but also didn't seem to fit well, but I'm really glad it wasn't totally silent.

OldIsWin by BetaCat 2018-04-24T18:01:27Z

Definitely echo the others on the slippery controls, but I loved the use of light gun. Double (triple, quadruple...) jumping with the gun feels really good, and the level design complements it. I also really loved the boxes with enemies in them. Super clever and amusing. The music was excellent, but I do wish it looped better.

SPORTS by Forest 2018-04-24T06:52:03Z

Thanks, @Hannah19! Yeah, I was really worried about doing anything with an AI because it's tough to make them effective, but not too effective. So obviously we went with a game that is mostly AIs. 😅 Still, I'm really glad enjoyed it enough to stick with it!

SPORTS by Forest 2018-04-24T21:21:13Z

Thanks for the great comments everyone! We definitely want to pursue this game later, but we're already working on a game "Among Us" that we gotta ship first!

@DevBayer, That's definitely what we wanted! We'll probably keep going with this when we get a chance. We had so many ideas for even more madness we couldn't get to!

@frogcheese, yeah, when we improve this, I hope we can improve the ball control a lot. We actually wanted really high scoring games, but the goalies ended up so good that we had to make them stationary to get even a few goals. Still so glad the humour came through. That's the score we really wanted to nail!

@Schu, Thanks! It sucks when something gets stuck. It happens to players too sometimes, but we didn't have time to chase down why.

@baczekadam, you can switch between players on your team with E or Shift, but do you mean switch the type of the current character?

@Sibi, We really wanted to do more with the weapons. We had stuff like a dash planned for the spearman, but we just barely finished, so it ended up very out of scope.

SPORTS by Forest 2018-04-25T01:04:22Z

@BetaCat 哈哈谢谢! 尽管出现了故障,我很高兴你喜欢我们的游戏! (我知道中文很少,我用谷歌翻译) haha, thanks! I'm happy you liked our game despite the glitch! (I know very little Chinese, I used Google translate)

@Fernando-Labarta Just be relentless like a 2GHz CPU!

@arche-san Yeah, we relied on the instructions being outside the game a bit much. We'll def add a controls screen when we polish this up.

@SeaHam Thanks! Zamboni's gotta tough job, but keeping clean is important!

On The Fly by qkjosh 2018-04-25T02:20:19Z

This is such a lovely little game. It's peaceful and pleasant. I'm not sure if I "finished" it, though because while I got the heart as big as I thought it would go plus one more correct response, nothing really happened, so I thought it was part of the "endless runner" aspect of the game. Haha, an endless dater. Although because I didn't have too much understanding of the characters, the answers sometimes felt arbitrary...

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-04-24T20:49:03Z

This is really cute and interesting. I'd love to see a finished version, since it's so tough to play without knowing how much stardust you need or how much life you have. Also, the stars often spawn so close to asteroids that it's really tough to get them.

Catchinko by Team Yarn 2018-05-03T05:55:11Z

Although you didn't have enough time to do what you wanted, it was still really cute and fun, good job!

Moah the Mower by cukiakimani 2018-04-24T18:21:23Z

It's definitely got the mood and aesthetic down, but I'll also echo the lack of objectives. I think it would have been just as relaxing if it just had more patterns and an optional accuracy gauge, but I would have played it much longer.

Rolling Soccer by palsina 2018-04-24T21:39:10Z

I really like this idea! The tackle hitbox is kinda tough to hit, but the feel of the ball is pretty good and I think the rate and size of things in the field is great as well.

Line'em up by arche-san 2018-04-24T21:03:40Z

I'm not very good at this game, I've only made it into round 2, but I really enjoyed it! The music, graphics and SFX all work together really well! I think I would have liked the shots to go a little further or the ship to move a little faster since there's a lot of repositioning, but doesn't really hurt the fun at all.
