LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Super Drill Diver! by Cornflowerblue 2021-04-30T21:55:55Z

Super impressive aesthetics and content volume. I am very curious about the process and tools you used to create this. I really wanted to keep playing the game but its extremely punishing, and success didn't feel satisfying enough to justify that. Just having to restart from level 1 every time was a "feelsbadman" moment, where with some tweaking could tun into a "I got it this time!" moment.

However my biggest complaint is with the combat encounters. It felt like a chore clearing the level of the enemies. There was no way to get around them, just, run, turn, shoot, run, turn, shoot + not being able to move the aim reticle off the 2D plane was frustrating. Having some sort of targeting system would help a whole lot.

Even with the design flaws in the game (which I think are pretty straightforward to remedy) I think the technical achievement is massive! I'm blown away by the unique art style, procedural generation, and scope/scale of this for a 72hr jam. You should be very proud of yourselves!

Farm and Mine by general 2021-04-29T06:08:51Z

Nice optimization/idle clicker game. I am playong android version. I started about an hour ago and will update this post as I play without the cheat.

4/29 0205: ran into a bug, clicking on the vegetable market came up tith an option to sell resources to get more money on the 'market' which I clicked on and then it disabled all functions, clikcing on any upgrade button did nothing. I had to resart the game for it to respond again.

4/29 0249: I have tons of coal and iron, but I see no way of sellinh or doing anthing with it. Collecting resources is always fun but I dont see any immediate goals.

4/29 :0903 Have tons of resources with nothing to do but upgrade the machinery. Thinking about using the cheat now... also I have no idea what the chef is doing.

Deeper and Deeper by MagonX 2021-04-28T03:50:56Z

Gorgeous Game! Really well done technically. Nice intuitive puzzle mechanics, got stale pretty quickly however. Super solid jam game.

PS thanks for playing my game!

Fever Dream by RAFFE 2021-04-30T03:16:47Z

Good looking game! Really impressive. I had fun playing, it was a nice challenge, I played the android version, Im going to try on desktop also.

Fever Dream by RAFFE 2021-04-30T13:46:32Z

@justmars I have a galaxy note 10. It ran verry well! No lagging, beautiful graphics. Only complaint was the control scheme felt overly restrictive, but I assume you just did a quick export..?

No sun by Croosle 2021-04-28T17:16:03Z

Nice mechanics! I enjoyed the game for the most part, The art was very nice and the enemy were a decent difficulty level, great job!

enRoot by Linkwin 2021-04-28T15:24:42Z

@arturgiardi Thanks for playing! I actually left it floaty intentionally, I thought it fit the mood we were going for.

@alex-the-bear Thank you! I was pretty happy with how the animation turned out. We planned to have the mushrooms animating in a similar style.

@danny-sperling Thanks for the feedback! Im just going to block the left entrance when I update.

@heremeus Thanks! I will add the dash for sure, that was just something from the platform code I used. There is no ending, time constraints got us there. I had a little boss battle with the centipede close to finished but again time...

Heart of Forest by Wieczny 2021-04-27T22:10:32Z

Nicely done! The visuals are interested and I really enjoyed the use of lighting, with that said it was very dark, I had trouble with seeing the platform and what to do to complete the puzzles. The levels were only very spread out, so I felt like I was just going all over the place (pixel hunting). Controls were quite touchy, made the platforming unnecessarily difficult. Overall great job!

Chocolate Dip Cookie by MarcoMing 2021-04-27T22:20:36Z

Super Cute!! Intro made me laugh, love the art style, gameplay was a bit lacking but strangely addictive! varying the speed was a good choice. Also... my 4 year old loves it =D

Dino Digging by Argon 2021-04-30T21:12:18Z

The design and implementation of this game is incredible. There are *tons* of dimensions of strategy to optimize for. Really enjoyed it. You definitely need a series of tutorials showing different strategies, and more depth on how each mechanic works. I cannot believe this was made in a few days. Great work all around! + The theme and art tied everything together nicely. I think you should make the cost scaling of the upgrades steeper. I just wanted to play over and over, each round was a treat, having more (or more ambitious) goals to go for would be even more engaging.

Town of Monsters by lesinvisible 2021-04-30T04:10:29Z

Amazing game. You should put more info on your page if your willing to share! Did you record the guitar? I felt like it helped draw you into the world more.

I was locked into the game, everything came together really nicly, the art stlye, the voice acting, music. Flow state achieved, Really well done. And you are extremely talented, sir! The VO was excellent!

Combat system played its role I think, breaking up the dialog. I basically just tryed att/def combos randomly.

Also I played the game on my phone in a browser, which was exciting. What tool(s) did you use to make this?

Town of Monsters by lesinvisible 2021-04-30T19:43:44Z

@lesinvisible I'm totally with you there! I guess I wasn't clear, I meant info about how you developed the game, and about yourself. That's really impressive that you didn't use a framework.

Another note about the combat system: I kept referring back to the diary to see if it had any hints on what combat style to use for each encounter. Not sure if it was supposed to? or just my intuition.

Into the DEEP by Alex the Bear 2021-04-28T17:26:17Z

Interesting game! The music didn't seem to line up with the rhythm... I played the web version, so maybe that's why, or was it supposed to? I know when I worked on a rhythm game I had to make a calibrator, since every computers input delay is slightly different. Anyway, maybe something to think about. Great job overall! Animations were great and I enjoyed the art style. My only real complaint was that the controls were a bit frustrating.

PS thanks for playing my game!

DEEP DIVE by Cubi 2021-04-28T00:36:22Z

Congrats on your first game! It wasn't bad, really! Just keep improving =)

I don't know if this was intended, but moving left and right was really fast and jerky so it was really hard to go straight down. I found I had to hug the walls to slow my momentum. Keep up the good work!

Soulsmith by Dark Blue Dragon Games 2021-04-27T22:59:17Z

Nice job overall. The particle effects were aa bit much, hard to look at the screen, as well as the speed of movement. I had fun playing, the slow down time power up was fun. The coin hit boxes could be bigger, as a minor note. Great job!

Phantas-matcha by CharlineF 2021-04-30T21:24:14Z

Really charming little story! The dialog and character development were great, really felt like a consistent world. I would have liked to see more interaction, but the polish level as a short visual novel was excellent. Well done!

Vertabyss by UltimateWalrus 2021-04-27T22:46:42Z

Had a lot of fun with this! Control scheme was very interesting, and surprisingly not unintuitive. I found it quite hard to get very far, but I thoroughly enjoyed the visuals and the experience overall. Also am very interested in Manta... your website is incredible. holy crap.

Space Sail Away by carpaccino 2021-04-28T03:42:12Z

Fantastic little game! I had so much fun. The exploratory feel is amazing, nailed the theme, after learning a bit more I would start going deeper and deeper. I love how there isn't a punishing feeling to dying. Great challenge, great design. The graphics could use some shaders or something, but I love the aesthetic as is. I would have been happy dropping a few bucks on this game (especially if it was an android game, very impressive for a jam game.

samurai-dash by enricomandelli 2021-04-29T05:44:57Z

Android version is killer! Tight game loop, really challenging but not frustrating, well done!!

LD49 — Unstable

Unstable Gravity by EasyLuckyGem 2021-10-08T01:48:25Z

Awesome game! Love the concept, the visual indicators are great! I would love to see this idea expanded, really interesting design, a lot to explore there. Great idea and well executed.

Crumbling Mind by NoeTheLazyDev 2021-10-08T23:07:10Z

Fantastic little game! Very relatable. The visual effect and sounds were excellent, I definitely felt the emotions of the character. Well done! (also [redacted] was a nice touch, made my cynical side laugh)

Fourth Energy by Johnsensei 2021-10-08T22:51:45Z

Great story and dialog! Very nice writing, I felt attached to the characters. Overall I enjoyed it thoroughly .

Fault by WoodenSwords 2021-10-08T23:14:57Z

@johnsensei Unfortunatly, no.. we used Unreal Engine 5, which has no native support.

Cairn by Amaroq 2021-10-07T23:10:57Z

I enjoyed the mood of this a lot, story and dialog were solid. Obviously wishing for more, but great job with what you made!! The music really added to the atmosphere, and the character art was nice. I got frustrated with the rock stacking and didn't finish the cairn. All in all well done!

The totally-safe-and-explosion-free Heist by Fonkin 2021-10-08T01:19:28Z

Really great job! Simple game but has exciting moments. I like the heist concept and think it worked well. As others have said, your bullets move with the camera, which made it hard to run and gun which would add some fun imo. Also Impressive you made so many levels. Well done!

LD55 — Summoning

Drag Me From Hell by No Grapes Games 2024-04-19T00:31:27Z

Nicely done! Very well made and cohesive experience. I think the actual gameplay was a bit flat, but lots of potential to incorporate strategy and variety. Well done overall!

Infernal Interns by Richard Ortiz 2024-04-16T03:50:40Z

Cool vibes! I didn't really understand what was happening but it was well made, enjoyable writing, and wonderful artwork!

Witch Courtier by alpacalypse 2024-04-16T02:52:09Z

Solid little game! Enjoyed the "important messages from the king" ;) Nice job setting the mood, the color scheme and visual effects were spot on. It also really felt like I was performing a summoning ritual! Well done!

Frogs of the Round Pebble by Rugg 2024-04-16T03:32:29Z

The environment and music are nice. Platforming level design is decent. I enjoyed exploring the world for a bit. The main issue is with the jump physics. The jump is too quick and gravity feels static. A good jump should slow down as it approaches the peak so the jump can be timed and feel natural. Besides that and the animation polish, this is pretty solid! You should be proud!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Friendship is Magic by adsefhr 2018-05-03T04:17:58Z

Really fun game! When connecting a controller as second player the controller only works to jump and attack not to move. I really liked how the game felt. Keep up the good work!

Quest for Gold by Mordokay 2018-04-24T18:21:34Z

This is amazing! I love this conception of the theme. The incompatibility of the genres give rise to some very engaging interesting puzzles, really made me think there at the end with the moving platforms. Great work! Would love to see this as a full fledged party game. And how your using playthroughs as the "AI" is genius!

As others have mentioned a FF button would be nice but there is a reason for not having it ;)

Quest for Gold by Mordokay 2018-05-11T03:05:39Z

If you don't make this into a full release I am going to work on it a lot!

Wonky Farm Dance Party by Egon 2018-05-02T03:22:21Z

I really enjoyed almost everything about this game! Tying everything together with music was really effective. I got stuck at the wall jump (I assume) part. The writing was great, visual style is simple but has a huge impact. I didn't find the controls to be awkward as others have said, only the animation and that was intentional and had an interesting effect on gameplay. I would love to see a more developed version!

FAST CRASH by tweedle 2018-05-01T04:05:13Z

Interesting concept, it felt a little slow, but the setup and feel of the game were great. I wish there were some easy questions at the begging so I'm not just guessing and don't get to see the use laser/stay in correct lane trade off. And also to make me feel accomplished and want to keep playing.

Rude Bear Rogueolution by alexrose 2018-05-03T03:00:33Z

I wasn't sure if the auto calibrate thing was working for me. And I couldn't figure out which subdivision of the beat I was supposed to tap to. I really loved this game though! Definitely one of my favorites! I'm working on a game with similar abstract concept for game play so it was really interesting to see this! Edit: just saw where you explain it has to be 2 bars will for sure play this again

Speed Fortress by thedragonllama 2018-05-07T01:54:08Z

I had to clone your code and open it in unity, then i still couldn't play, do you have to have more than one controller? Upload a build of your game so it is easier to play! :)

CONFESSIONAL by Rodrigo Denúbila 2018-05-07T01:08:23Z

Great job! I was hooked from the beginning. Really impressive work!

Space Trader by multiplexor 2018-04-24T19:19:12Z

I can't believe this is a compo game! Well done, a few bugs (in the browser version at least) and needs some balancing, it was a little slow. But overall I really enjoyed it!

Power in Numbers by amras0000 2018-05-06T00:58:13Z

Love the idea and interpretation of theme! I was not able to get very far, I do not understand how to deal with the police, I just kept running... Anyway, I'm interested in the other games you've made, will be checking those out!

Crush of Duty Saga by muumeroinen 2018-05-07T01:27:24Z

This game was quite fun. I enjoyed how fast paced it was and the concept was cool. The graphics were pretty good everything works together. There is one issue, sometimes when looking around the camera gets stuck. All in all great job!

Wizsnooks by kroltan 2018-05-06T01:38:21Z

Nice graphics and solid game play! As others have mentioned I wish bouncing off wall was more consistent. I think the graphics are great but this style can easily look really off unless everything matches. The background and walls had less depth than characters/enemy's and made the graphics look a bit like clip art. With a little more polish this would be a great game!

The Mad Tea Party - A Card and Run Game by Tiberius 2018-05-06T02:39:39Z

This was a great experience. The theme incorporation is interesting, I personally like this kind of game a lot. The puzzle mechanics were refreshing. It was a little flat but challenging and rewarding nonetheless. The graphics seemed small and dated, still enjoyed the visual style though, very unique. Keep up the good work! Impressive entry!

Deal 'Em Up by James Dunlap 2018-05-06T00:54:42Z

Nice solid game! I enjoyed the temporary nature of your abilities from the cards. Game play was fun but not much to the game. You could definitely expound upon this and make something cool! A few other points: * I enjoyed the music at first but it got old fast * The layout of the saloon was very repetitive just making it smaller would help * The enemy AI was fun for a while but were easy to outsmart

All in all it was pretty fun to play! thank you!

Sword And Plow by frankiesmileshow 2018-05-03T01:57:37Z

Awesome game! Had a lot of fun! definitely needs improvements to balance. It seemed too much about luck of the draw which made it feel tedious after a bit. Overall a great game!

Hadecken by La mecanique du plastique 2018-05-12T04:13:47Z

Feels really good with a gamepad. Th game balance seems a bit off, I got stuck with an AI the just drained the clock by blocking everything. I really enjoyed the art and animations and the fast pace is great, I really had fun playing this. Definitely needs tutorial levels. It was hard to remember what each number meant.

Mayor Metal Man by randomphantom 2018-05-06T02:30:23Z

I really enjoyed this game! The music and game play were enthralling!! I am very impressed you made this for the compo. With the being said I have a few comments (I played post jam version): * I got stuck on a chair in one of the houses * The combat was okay but felt like an afterthought (understandable for timeframe) * The city building is pretty one-dimestional * To me it felt like there was no difficulty at all (no cost for bad actions) * overall game balance is not very good which hurts gameplay experience

I have a soft spot in my heart for city building/RTS style game's. This one made me happy :) Kudos.

threeSpace by HS_Dave 2018-05-07T01:47:19Z

I'm not a fan of match three but I actually had fun playing this, the monotony of match 3 had a purpose, I would like to see the more finished version! Great work!

Spitbeat by SandPile 2018-05-07T02:09:04Z

I love the art style! It's really nice, I had fun playing this, but have some pointers:

* For a rhythm game you have to have some kind of calibration. Different hardware has different input delays you have to account for. * Syncing of the visuals to beat needs to be frame rate independent. many times it would lag and be impossible to hit on the beat

I really loved the idea and aesthetic of this game! Having different weapons that fire at different subdivisions of the beat is a cool idea. It would be awesome if you could use multiple at once. Would love to see this more developed! Great job overall!

I did better turning off the audio and just using visual cues spitbeat.jpg

Barbarian Invasion by BobbyTables 2018-05-06T01:56:59Z

Well done! The balancing is not to bad, you have to move rather quickly and efficiently to stay ahead of the curve though. You could do a lot more balancing. I'm a huge fan of RTS game's wish there were more original one's. My biggest issue with the game is there is no indication of how it incorporates the theme.

Christmas Struggle by Bhavin 2018-05-07T00:55:16Z

The feel of the game is great! I enjoyed playing for a while, but the balance is pretty off. The world was very sparse which made gathering wood rather tedious. The dialog was good, and the opening drew me into the game. Nicely done!

Racing squared by joll05 2018-04-25T01:01:12Z

This would be as a fun multiplayer mini-game, don't know how well it would work as a full game, but the controls feel really good.

Ultimate Hero Simulator by antvelm 2018-05-03T01:23:20Z

Hell yes, one of the most fun games I've played. Please just make controller support! It'll take no time in unity! I will play this forever if I can play with gamepad. Awesome job! I love the taking care of a pet idea, it's very original and adds depth to the platforming. I would love to see where this idea evolves!!

SPORTS by Forest 2018-05-07T03:05:08Z

Really fun and creative! Interesting take on the theme. It's pretty difficult to use the weapons and the different kinds seem unbalanced. I had a great time playing this! Thanks and great job!

Fort of Dwarves by Andreas Becker 2018-05-07T03:30:41Z

I like the concept of this game, there was a visual glitch that was very annoying for me, lines kept shooting all across the screen back and forth. Other than that I enjoyed the graphics and the mechanics. It is a little difficult to tell what is going on when you use powers. If there was more evident visual feedback it would be easier to keep your eyes on the ball. Great job overall!

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-04-24T18:41:20Z

Ah man, sorry guys, link is public now.

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-04-24T19:10:12Z

Thanks for the feedback! @multiplexor Didn't realize that, added that to known bugs, there is a counter in top left you can see in desktop version. You're right the balance is way off. @Raiyumi I think the end game is broken.

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-04-24T19:31:10Z

@Mordokay Thanks for the tips! Ive wanted to implement these kind of mechanics for a long time and this just felt right. It was quite a struggle and the gravity force is in the thousands so it needs a lot of tweaking. I plan on implementing this with proper physics equations (not sure if unity can handle it though. I actually disabled gravity completly and used trigger colliders for gravity fields and AddForce. I loved your game as I'm sure your aware by my comment. I would love to chat PM me on reddit u/a_winch if you like.

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-04-24T20:00:35Z

@Gavin Camlin Yeah I wish would have managed time better to have that stuff ready for the jam. I would love to continue working on this for a full release, all this feedback is really motivating.

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-04-26T00:19:55Z

@ropedog Thanks! :) I was actually thinking about Mario galaxy when developing. When I first got the game I was disappointed you couldn't play with the physics between planets, it was always scripted (from my memory). Looking forward to playing Fast Crash!

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-05-02T00:51:11Z

@gavin-camlin I just updated the game last night! Check it out, I addressed many of the points from your comment and have really learned a lot from this whole experience. Thank you so much!

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-05-07T16:42:47Z

@forest @hs-dave I updated the Ui and polished some things to make it more playable, let me know what you think!

Stardust by Linkwin 2018-05-11T03:12:47Z

@gavin-camlin Yeah, I didn't work on the controls at all I plan on implementing the controls from a completely different perspective. Your feedback is extremely helpful! I did not realize how un-intuitive the mechanics and rule of the game are. If you press pause you can read the instructions but that is definitely not optimal. The biggest lesson I learned from this jam is how important the UI is. Thank you so much for playing the updated version! It really means a lot!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-25T00:28:59Z

Really well made, I love the variety in the enemy's. I was also annoyed with the enemy's attacking you in the house. Needs some tunes! Keep up the good work!

Dangerous Fields by Gavin Camlin 2018-04-25T00:50:59Z

Yeah if you open the door and stay in the house you can get hit. Also, forgot to mention, this game reminded me of harvest moon in a strange way.

Survive the Date by Samurai Ducks 2018-05-03T02:08:04Z

Really well made! I like the idea but got bored rather quickly. Would be interested to see where you take this. As others have said: overall the feel of the game is great and has a lot of potential, just keep finding ways to make it more interesting! :)
