Windows link doesn't work

randomphantom 2018-04-23 05:38

ah shoot! I forgot to publish. It should work now (crossing fingers!)

visumecadroide 2018-04-24 18:48

Intersting idea still not enough developed. I can't see the my goal in the game. Keep developing games ;)

randomphantom 2018-04-25 12:05

Yeah, there's not much goals except to expand your city to cover all 25 squares and explore the city you build (i think enemies were a little broken in the jam version)

kappajin 2018-04-25 13:41

Awesome game! I really loved the mash of the two genres, it worked wonders in my opinion! Keep up the good work, maybe even try to expand the idea further if you want to, I'd be interested in seeing it developed!

Also, if you have time, check out my game. It's about a seaman detective. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/seaman-sleuth

shp 2018-04-25 14:46

Great game, I got wrecked by the ufo falling down on my city hall but the management/exploration worked well together before that.

floata-1 2018-04-25 14:53

i enjoyed the game definitely a fun game keep up the work

randomphantom 2018-04-25 14:58

@shp that UFO falling on the city hall is totally intended.. XD thanks for checking out!

technonugget 2018-04-26 06:33

This is a very good idea but the game was poorly polished and there were a lot of glitches. For instance, I got stuck in first person mode a couple times and the first time I was really confused because the tutorial doesn't tell you how to get back to city planning mode.

However the genre mashup I think is great and with a bit of polish I think it could really be something great!

randomphantom 2018-04-26 16:44

@TechnoNugget yeah I realized that the tutorial didn't teach players how to get back to city planning view in the jam version and it wasn't really obvious so I stuck it in the LD page, lol. Thanks for checking it out!

jacklehamster 2018-04-26 17:25

Nice work! I got a lot to say, but as you know, one image is worth a thousand words. So how 'about you watch my Let's play video of your game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKZ-GMNkk6I

And let me know what you think about it 😉

randomphantom 2018-04-27 11:22

@JackLeHamster thanks for doing the video which is much more than a thousand words, and boy... I really have to work on that tutorial :stuck_out_tongue: Yes, its not obvious that walking back to the TV screen will get you back to city building view. Thinking that some sort of on-screen arrows pointing you back to city hall would also be helpful in providing bearings, else players might get lost haha! I'm a little curious about the laggy gameplay though - might need to make it more performance friendly else first person view might be a pain. You're running a Mac right - what's your specs on that?

coldmoose 2018-04-27 14:41

Pretty awesome mix of ideas. Only thing that would have been nice would be to switch modes with a key press instead of running back to city hall but otherwise it was great!

artiko 2018-04-27 15:19

I have played the jam version, as said before it is not so playable. The idea is good and probably in the post jam version you fix all the problems but sadly th rating have to be on the jam version. Keep up the good work!

sndr 2018-04-27 15:51

The take on the theme is awesome! It does have a few bugs and things that need polishing, but it's an ambitious take and it does have potential. Good job! :)

bazld 2018-04-27 16:16

Wow - thats a really ambitious jam project! As others mentioned I think, needs some tweaks, but extremely impressive. [played the post jam version]

efmi 2018-04-27 18:34

Good job. For some reason, I couldn't kill the zombies, even though I shot them many times.

riordan 2018-04-27 19:26

The 2 genres combined could actually work well together. This is a very interesting game indeed. I did play the jam version so things didn't work quite well as intended but, the idea got across just fine.

If you can improve the graphics and presentation a little bit more, this game can make it out there. I can see some potential!

randomphantom 2018-04-28 00:42

@coldmoose Yeah I'll need to consider alternating views with a simple button push - that might be the more sensible option for the game. Great suggestion! @efmi that's one of the bugs with the original (fortunately, the zombies don't spawn correctly LOL). @riordan @bazld @sndr @artiko thanks for the encouragement and checking it out!

jacklehamster 2018-04-28 03:03

@randomphantom I was on a Macbook Pro 13in, not too recent though, maybe around 2015.

caleblewis 2018-04-28 03:41

Really interesting take on city building games, the implementation was a bit... buggy, but it's a great idea and the game was pretty fun.

resivium 2018-04-28 16:30

Fun game! I was mind blown when I could exit the city view and walk around in the city I was building! The power-ups in the buildings are nice and welcome to battle the zombies and UFO's.

I do have some performance issues on Linux but it didn't hinder to much for playing the game. I would also be nice to extend the 'city defense' part by allowing to build walls and tactical structure once you have your economy right.

madxmd 2018-04-29 04:35

Interesting Idea, I enjoyed the game

deepterror 2018-04-29 07:45

Awesome game due to the time involved - I'm impressed - great job !

The grapics and musics are great together.

You have one serious candidate to level up for a post-jam game - keep working on it.

nvrskipgameday 2018-04-29 19:58

My town started out simple enough, and then I entered the world on foot. The people praised me, threw money my way - they needed jobs, but re-entering city-planning view wasn't working so instead I explored the small town and eventually pulled out a strange weapon that appeared to shoot pleasant floating puff balls. I got hit by a car and walked to the edge of town, desperate to see where the cars were disappearing to. I could see beneath the town so I dropped down into the lower plane. By myself beneath the cusp of civilization I fired my weapon and surrounded myself by an ethereal sea of floating spheres that felt strangely calming.

All in all this is a really sweet idea and I had a great time. Thanks for submitting. :)

candlesan 2018-04-29 21:03

Okay this is a very impressive entry! I have a lot of little comments but don't let that detract from the fact that I thought you did a great job.

What program did you use for making your 3D models btw? It looks like you had a voxel editor that you were then able to use to export 3D models for unity?

The city mode itself is very impressive. There were some frame rate issues when placing roads and buildings but it is still impressive to have even just the city manager working in the timeframe of a jam.

At first I wasn't sure what to expect from the FPS mode but I liked the mechanic of visiting different people to get money.

I thought that as my city got larger I'd be able to make more money walking around but it didn't pan out that way. The distance between people remains kind of far and the refresh rate on how fast you can get money from any individual citizen is sufficiently low that it just makes sense to find 2-4 citizens who are close enough that you just walk between them for money.

That is, until I found money sitting in the bathroom of one of the houses and it looks like you can just walk back and forth over that and pick up money forever. I assume this is just either a bug or a tuning issue 'cause it didnt' seem intended given how it basically broke the gameplay for me.

Really impressive what you were able to get done in 48 hours!

caterein 2018-04-29 22:12

Nice job! I played the LD release version and couldn't figure out how to get back into city planning mode, so that may have been fixed in the subsequent build. I do wish there had been more of a goal, but maybe I missed that being stuck in the city. Overall, good job!

randomphantom 2018-04-30 02:19

@NvrSkipGameDay @caterein the way to revert back to city planning view is to head back to city hall and go near the black box (representing the city planning view) and yeah the controls were a huge oversight there, thanks for playing (and playtesting) though!

@candlesan I used Magicavoxel which is really handy for voxel based models. Yeah the jam version has bugs with money collection where you could essentially collect money really quickly by walking in and out of range of the people. Thanks for checking out the game!

@DeepTerror thought of doing that but realized the impossibility of that for the game jam, great idea for post jam though! @CalebLewis @resivium @madxmd thanks for playing!

rodrigo-denubila 2018-04-30 03:50

Great game! It's a pretty interesting concept and well done. I had fun playing this.

It was a lot of things to do in a short time. Congratulations and good job.

Please, take a look at my game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional

zarkonnen 2018-05-01 10:10

This is my favorite mayoral home invasion simulator! Er, I mean. I really like both the concept and execution. Alternating between the city planning and FPS sides is nice, and I can see that longer-term there'd be some interesting synergies. Basically, so far this is the one game I've seen where I'd buy a full post-jam version.

Oh, and I just noticed it's a compo game. That's additionally impressive.

afendar 2018-05-01 15:33

Ouhaaa he is great game! A style that I love and frankly worked well graphics level.

Really very, very good job.

liquidbrain 2018-05-01 16:09

Most memorable LD game I've played. I love the idea of building a city that you can explore in FPS. Overall, a great game!!

aditya-shukla 2018-05-02 14:53

OMG! How the hell were you able to make such an awesome game in just 2 days??? It's really appreciable that you gave out the source code too... there is so much one can learn from you, especially the beginners like us. Really enjoyed the game.. well done brother!

btw if you wanna try out our horror + comedy game, it's here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/memebumps Would really love your ratings and feedback. Thanks!

diffty 2018-05-03 22:15

Okay so, first, I disabled the music... it was really annoying D:

Then... I lvoed the concept ! It's kind of a child dream to be able to build something and walk in there... So it kind of talked to me :)

Plus, you crossed not 2 but 3 game genres : city bulder, FPS and... a FPS clicker!

The graphics are simple but I liked the voxel style. It's simple and clean. So good job on that! It has a good atmosphere and the gameplay may be simple, it's kind of catchy.

I think I run into a few bugs... Like some buildings semmed to spawn underground. Like a house and a factory, which just had some smoke appear across the floor... Oh, the screen shake was wayyy too hardcore tho. But I'd have to say it's a good idea to put a warning during the zombie invasion : I would pee my self to cross a zombie while I would not expect it, so thank you for that ;p

Good job on your game! I really like it :)

PS: btw, if you're into procedural city building things, check our game, it's a driving autoscroller crossed with a city builder! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/hyper-drift-mayor ^_^

viridiangames 2018-05-04 03:10

I like this a lot! The two "incompatible" genres are actually pretty compatible, and while the citybuilding is simplified it's satisfying. That said, I initially thought the floating bubbles over buildings meant there was money in them (it's not, it's their hit points) since that's how you were doing money for citizens. The zombies never showed in my version and I...eventually went on a rampage and destroyed my own city. Still, that was fun!.

shivur 2018-05-04 21:39

I like it a lot despite a lot of bugs.

yashpal 2018-05-05 12:35

**It's great.**

When I played it and first time I changed to FPS mode I am like :sunglasses:

It's cool. All the power ups really meaningful.

Art is great. Voxel based characters and building really good.

It's management sim. with some surprise

linkwin 2018-05-06 02:30

I really enjoyed this game! The music and game play were enthralling!! I am very impressed you made this for the compo. With the being said I have a few comments (I played post jam version): * I got stuck on a chair in one of the houses * The combat was okay but felt like an afterthought (understandable for timeframe) * The city building is pretty one-dimestional * To me it felt like there was no difficulty at all (no cost for bad actions) * overall game balance is not very good which hurts gameplay experience

I have a soft spot in my heart for city building/RTS style game's. This one made me happy :) Kudos.
