LD38 — A Small World

Escape The World by Ajayajayaj 2017-05-10T01:56:43Z

This is a clever little puzzler! I agree with other commenters that it'd make a great mobile game, as well. I do think implementing something to indicate which colour blocks are active would be a good idea for future releases, but overall, you did a great job here :)

My Very Own World by Flipsy 2017-05-10T00:30:57Z

Very sweet little game. That really cheered me up :) So thank you!

Calor by stevenjmiller 2017-05-09T20:13:13Z

Very ambitious and many kudos to you for pulling it off! I really appreciate the extra effort you took in adding a tutorial. Well done :)

StopWatch by SkullPixel 2017-05-10T01:28:34Z

Cute game! You had a great idea and the art style and mechanics are really well done. I may just be a dummy, but I had to sift through the comments before I figured out that I had to run into the enemies to kill them, so maybe consider putting that more clearly in the description (I kept hitting space, thinking it would do another 'thing'.) Overall, well done!

Star Traveller by SecondDimension 2017-05-01T21:48:03Z

Absolutely adorable. Loved the art style, and the little details were really thoughtful. The star traveller looked like a little axolotl!

Mediator by randomhuman 2017-05-01T22:40:27Z

Fantastic graphics and art style. It's a little thing, but I really loved that you used dark purple instead of black for the background of space. I know it's weird, but I love just that little difference from all the other space games! Two things I noticed - in the browser version, I wasn't able to scroll down to see the whole screen, and the "options" option of the main menu in the Windows download didn't link to anything. Don't know if that's helpful at all, but there you go!

I would be so interested in playing again if you decided to finish up the story somehow. I think it has a ton of potential, and even just in one scene, you sucked me in! I must know more about the Io incident!

ATLANTIS by OccultOne 2017-05-14T00:22:38Z

Really well done. This game was stunning to look at, and the music was perfect! I do think it could benefit from either a small tutorial, or more explanation in-game about characters, turns, and mana use. It took me a few rounds to get the hang of everything, and I also experienced some bugginess with the Ability button. Overall though, you guys made a fantastic game.

Planet Domination by Sir Magic 2017-05-03T20:22:09Z

Really like the gameplay and art style. I agree with the comment that some re-spawning cover would be great, but overall, I think you made a great game. Well done :)

Cosmos Minimus by Tygrak 2017-05-02T00:18:20Z

I dig the graphics and atmosphere, but the controls got a bit buggy when inside the planets. Overall, well done :)

ANTIVIRUS by KappaIX 2017-05-06T18:51:27Z

Great idea for the theme. You also have gorgeous graphics! As other commenters have mentioned, I would've enjoyed being able to hold the mouse button down to fire, and just a heads up, the main menu in the game instructs the player to press right click to fire, not left click. Overall, really well done :)

D.A.D.S. (Destitute Agoraphobic Dad Simulator) by chunkybrewster 2017-05-03T23:35:54Z

Really clever idea! Kudos on your creativity. I do wish there had been a bit more to do during the 3 days, but maybe the point was that with nothing going on, it's easier for depression to set in? Either way, great game, I very much enjoyed it :)

SUPER METROARIO by puppetmaster 2017-05-01T23:47:00Z

Wow, I can tell a lot of effort went into designing this! Loved the music changes and graphics, and the puzzle kept me hooked. Great idea and well done!

Murder 38 - Episode One: A Small World by rodobodolfo 2017-05-08T01:08:41Z

Fantastic entry. I don't know what else to say. Great job :)

A Perfectly Lovely Expedition by cerno-b 2017-05-13T23:41:19Z

Lovely art style, graphics, and audio. Even the monsters were just adorable! I loved having to play around and explore to figure out the gameplay. Really well done! :)

Slice of Life by tweedle 2017-05-03T18:23:54Z

Really loved the art style and graphics. I also really dig that it started off so frantic while the player is figuring everything out. Great job! I wish I had more constructive feedback for you haha.

Small World Transport by devpaul 2017-05-14T00:53:18Z

Very cute game, and clever idea! I enjoyed all the little touches, like Pepperidge Farm haha. I'll look forward to seeing the post-Jam version, since not being able to see the packages made things pretty difficult. Well done!

(Web) The Small Worlds by lukethecoder64 2017-05-03T19:39:55Z

Good entry. It took me a couple tries to figure out the controls (I kept re-clicking on planets to move them again, which created another planet on top of the first). I do wish the levels had differed a bit more from each other in terms of strategy. Overall, well done!

It's A Small World And It's Gonna Get Smaller by npizzle1 2017-05-13T23:58:48Z

Really fun, and very unique idea! Your art style is lovely, too. It was difficult to resist just rampaging the little world haha. Well done!

Hibernaculum by redpanda 2017-05-01T22:11:34Z

Really lovely atmosphere and graphics. Very creative for "A small world" theme! I do wish the audio had looped, and some of the rotations were difficult to control. Really well done! :)

Little Infinity by Kevin Barrios 2017-05-03T20:32:09Z

I really enjoyed this game. The graphics and art are gorgeous - I love the way the player walks! He's so sassy haha. Really well done :)

A world too small and no jetpack by mikel 2017-05-09T20:58:06Z

Hats off on the art style and graphics. Like another commenter mentioned, the win/lose screens are especially cute. The delay between hitting jump and actually jumping was a bit awkward, and I noticed that I wasn't able to move left/right while jumping either. Maybe consider making that an option in a future release? Overall, well done!

Chip's Planet Defense by John Holden 2017-05-03T18:49:04Z

Hi @john-holden, just a heads up that the game keeps crashing when I try to open it. Wahh! :(

Ragdoll Wars by bwalter 2017-05-06T19:09:16Z

Cute game and really original idea for the theme. I also appreciate the addition of a resize button since the download is windowed. As someone else mentioned, this could be a great party game! Well done.

Plutiny by peringo 2017-05-06T18:27:22Z

Really adorable idea and great execution. I also appreciate that you added an upgrade system! I do think the game could benefit from more of a progression between levels, since each wave was essentially the same strategy with the same enemies and positions. Overall though, really well done! :)

Glass Houses by diptoman 2017-05-06T19:18:53Z

Wow. Very, very eerie - and that's a compliment! You've gone in a really interesting direction with the theme here, so great job. Side note - the characters kind of look like Slenderman to me, which probably contributed to the eeriness haha.

One Push Man by harusame 2017-05-03T19:05:57Z

Really cute game. Loved the graphics and art style. Most of my deaths were because I was too excited to push the slimes off the cliff haha. Well done!

The Spoiled Prince by silkworm_sweatshop 2017-05-04T00:10:10Z

Really creative idea and gorgeous art! Great job :)

Unnatural Resources by codyhansen 2017-05-03T20:51:20Z

Good entry. I do wish there had been some more level-type elements to it, or an increase in difficulty along the way. Overall, well done :)

Yours by binaryferret 2017-05-06T19:01:27Z

Really cute game with bomb music. I love atmospheric games like this, and getting to build the land the tribe lives on added to that in a great way. I did notice sometimes my tribesmen would just starting running into the oceans, which I know you mentioned in the description was to keep them from floating into space, so maybe consider adding little boats with them if you decide to expand on this game in the future. Well done!

Hopeless Void by Swynfel 2017-05-20T16:20:25Z

Very clever game, and I agree that it would make a great board game, as well! I think it could benefit from a bit more explanation into the mechanics, either as a small tutorial or in the introduction, because it took me a few tries to get the hang of everything. Overall, well done!

RoboLand by slovakyan 2017-05-09T21:12:09Z

Great little puzzler. I loved the graphics and sound, and the player is just too cute! As other commenters have mentioned, the LD version is pretty buggy, and I had trouble getting the game to keep working past level 3 (I would get zoomed in on the blue background, and then the window would turn black). I'll be interested to check out your post-LD updates, since I think you've got something solid here. Well done! :)

Three of you. by BitOfGold 2017-05-10T20:08:42Z

Really cute game with some gorgeous graphics. I do wish the characters had been able to move a bit faster, and I think you should consider adding a way to either cycle through the different animals in the gang or have the non-playable ones have some kind of role, like one finds crystals, one finds food, etc. Overall though, very well done!

Wake Up ! by GoZz 2017-05-17T00:15:54Z

Really lovely game. I know the physics are a bit clunky, but I think it adds to the dream-like state of the world, and so do the little girl's floaty jumps. If you decide to expand and make this the tutorial of several more levels, I'll look forward to playing again :)

It's a Small World by aviv871 2017-05-03T18:06:31Z

Really great idea for the theme, and I think you actually made it pretty eerie and creepy! I dig the pixellated art style, and the audio added to the frantic-ness of playing more than 1 character at once. Well done!

Recursive nightmare by Toulou 2017-05-08T00:44:56Z

Really cool concept for the theme. Wish I could've figured out how to get to the end (is there an end?). Well done!

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-05-09T21:26:05Z

This was a really clever and unique idea for the theme. The art style and audio were fantastic. As other commenters have mentioned, I think fine-tuning the z/x controls so it's not quite so picky and maybe speeding up Dr. Blackcraft's actions would help keep the player integrated into the gameplay. The havoc level creeps up pretty quickly sometimes, so having to wait while the doctor picks up the wrong thing, sets it down, and picks up the right thing can become a bit frustrating. I also agree with @somnium that a portable zip version would be a good idea, so as not to discourage anti-installers haha. Overall, well done!

LD38 - Big Dreams by Iron Leonem 2017-05-06T18:44:43Z

I know other commenters have mentioned this, but I really enjoyed the Toy Story-vibe here. It's like a spinoff of what might've happened if Buzz never accepted that he's a toy! So kudos on a great idea. I also really appreciated the scattering of powerups and enemy spawns to keep things interesting. Maybe considering adding some kind of objective as the difficulty progresses, like riding the nerf bullets to another location, if you decide to expand on this game in the future.

Unrelated, but @iron-leonem reviewed my game rovR a few days ago on twitch. I just wanted to say thank you - I really enjoyed watching, and you gave fantastic constructive criticism. Thanks for taking the time to do that :)

A World In Her Eye by OrbitalBlueprint 2017-05-03T23:05:31Z

Really lovely graphics, music, and atmosphere. As other commenters have mentioned, I do wish the story was a bit slower so I could enjoy the game environment. Overall, great work :)

Paper Jam! by danhett 2017-05-10T20:18:16Z

I really enjoyed this game. The audio tied in perfectly with the art style and graphics, and major kudos to you for hand drawing everything. I did wish I had been able to crouch and look down beneath the platforms, since there were a few times I plowed right into a gear without seeing it. Overall, really well done! :)

Pale Blue Dot by SneakyDeagle 2017-05-02T00:05:16Z

Hearing Carl Sagan talk is always a pleasure, great idea :)

A Giant Hitch by GenericToast 2017-05-13T23:51:53Z

This was a very cute, funny game. I cracked up at "Food for Giants." I did notice that I was able to cheese the work segment by positioning myself in between the two buttons and jumping, but I thought both tasks were overall really fun. Well done! :)

Little Sprout Garden by Valmay 2017-05-01T22:24:39Z

Really relaxing and pretty - like a real garden! Sometimes spawning seemed to get "stuck" in the browser version, and I wasn't able to spawn any more characters or objects. Well done game! :)

Murder Mitosis by _for_science 2017-05-03T23:53:37Z

Overall a great game. I love the party feel and that you can play with multiple people. Well done! :)

Legends Of Block by sagarpatel25700 2017-05-09T20:20:09Z

Simple and a lot of fun. Good job!

Planet or Die! by Silas Reinagel 2017-05-10T20:46:25Z

This is such a unique and clever game. Great job!

Down the Rabbit Hole by those-30-ninjas 2017-05-03T19:16:34Z

This was a really clever idea for the theme. Great execution and super enjoyable. Just overall a great entry! :)

Skylands by huminaboz 2017-05-04T01:22:10Z

Great art and gameplay. Would for sure enjoy being able to zoom out, but overall, really well done! :)

Place Them All by Yami no tenshi 8 2017-05-03T19:57:24Z

I really enjoyed this game. Very simple but super fun. It's taking me a while to get a good balance with all the tribes, I'm a terrible peacekeeper! Very well done :)

Strangeness by philomory 2017-05-08T00:32:04Z

Well done! I had a lot of fun playing but unfortunately got stuck in level 5 haha. Great graphics too :)

Spermicorn by Fanu 2017-05-03T20:43:03Z

Absolutely hilarious and charming game. Loved it. I like to think this is how your (the developers') lives began, as determined little spermicorn. Can't wait for the pig sequel! :)

Asteroid Hopper by yyam 2017-05-04T00:31:30Z

You made a really nifty puzzler with some great graphics and sound. Well done :)

Orbitunes by ColeSlaughter 2017-05-03T20:59:24Z

This was such a clever idea, and really lovely. The gameplay was almost therapeutic. Fantastic work, I love it :)

Glade in the Sky by AdroitConceptions 2017-05-06T19:28:46Z

Good job! I think some fine tuning the positioning of the player on the platforms would be beneficial, since sometimes it looked like I was floating in space. I also think not adding music was the right idea, too - it contributed to the empty atmosphere very nicely. Well done!

Electric Space Jelly by inventroom 2017-05-13T23:11:35Z

Loved it. Adorable art and graphics, and you incorporated a nice little story, too. I also appreciate that I can shoot through my planet and not hurt it. Very well done!

The World is Large by Sam at Wide Open Games 2017-05-02T00:11:06Z

Cute idea and very poetic.

Limited Space by Vidinu 2017-05-10T20:26:57Z

This is a really solid game! You did a really great job and managed to get in a lot of different elements. I wish there had been a more over-arching objective other than just the time running out. But overall, very well done! :)

Tiny Venture by faemir 2017-05-03T21:39:54Z

Nice game. I really appreciate that you put in a god-mode - the scenery was really lovely and I enjoyed just exploring. Great job!

Ceo - A bunny in the pocket omniverse by Ropnolc 2017-05-03T18:14:35Z

Very cute game, and I really enjoyed the graphics. I think it's a great first foray into Unity, well done :) Hope you continue with Ceo so they can keep exploring the universe!

Small World by JimmyBG 2017-05-01T23:54:47Z

Just a heads up, after opening I get this error and can't play the game: ___________________________________________ ############################################################################################ FATAL ERROR in Vertex Shader compilation ShaderName: shdr_depth

D3DXCompile failed - result

Not sure if anyone else has had this happen, but I thought I'd leave you a comment and let you know!

Bubblenaut by TheFunAttic 2017-05-03T18:40:51Z

Absolutely stunning art and graphics. Seriously beautiful game. I really like the relaxed atmosphere and gameplay so I could enjoy how lovely everything looks. Great job! :)

War of Quiz! by orquigames 2017-05-14T00:06:25Z

Nice entry! Like other commenters have mentioned, I think this game could benefit from having non-reproducible questions in a round and less obviously wrong answers in the medium and hard modes. Overall though, I enjoyed this, and I'm looking forward to seeing the PvP version! :)

Bill's Micro Adventure by NeuroHacker 2017-05-03T21:45:30Z

Good entry. I wish there had been some audio, and maybe a bit more variation during the gameplay. Overall, great concept and well done :)

Destructo Island by morbidcamel101 2017-05-03T22:49:50Z

Really fun game with fantastic graphics. I do wish that the crosshairs had blended less with the background, but overall, great submission :)

My Other World by Formona 2017-05-10T01:38:22Z

I loved this game. You have a really interesting and unique interpretation of the theme, not to mention the game itself is visually gorgeous (and freaking adorable). The levels are relatively simple but very different from each other, so kudos on that, as well. I enjoyed reading all of the messages/poems, but do wish the text had scrolled through a bit slower, so I could take my time reading them. Overall, fantastic job :)

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Rex McFury: Public Defender by minibobbo 2018-04-29T18:06:57Z

This was so great. I really enjoyed Rex McFury's pre-fight zingers. Was there a way to defeat the judge without using backspace? I couldn't punch and jump at the same time, and couldn't land a hit on him while he was on fire without hurting myself.

Really fantastic job!

Ping Bang Pong by geck0 2018-04-26T00:19:01Z

Very fun game! I really liked the twist of needing to bounce the ball to kill the enemy, it took me a couple of tries to not just click blindly haha. I do wish that the aim line actually indicated the path of the ball - sometimes it would pass by a corner that would end up deflecting the ball, which was a bit of a nuisance. Otherwise, great work!

CONFESSIONAL by Rodrigo Denúbila 2018-04-28T21:09:02Z

Very cool and creepy! Seeing "yourself" get tortured was really unsettling, so kudos for mood. I also encountered the floating bug: [Screenshot (131).png](///raw/a80/7/z/14673.png)

Wizsnooks by kroltan 2018-04-29T17:49:55Z

Wow, this was so much fun! Great interpretation of the theme. I really had a blast playing this. I would only suggest increasing visibility (as others have said) and maybe making gaining life back a bit easier. Missed shots became extremely unforgiving. Overall though, this was fantastic, and you guys have an amazing logo :)

Black Horizon by Kristian David 2018-04-28T20:34:52Z

I enjoyed the 3D graphics, you hit "creepy" really well! I did have a hard time not drifting the car, so it was easy to lose control and difficult to get back on the track if you were too close to a tree. Overall though, good idea and well done!

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-26T00:23:15Z

Music is lovely, well done! As others have mentioned, I think the combat part of lacking - maybe trying it as a rhythm/stacking tetris-style game would've worked? Cheers!

Remember or Die by GameDevMumin 2018-04-30T01:32:29Z

Wow, this one was tough! You definitely get punished every time you mismatch tiles. Maybe lowering the difficulty level would be nice, by either starting with a smaller number of tiles or increasing the amount of time they're revealed. Well done though!

Delve by riordan 2018-04-29T19:02:10Z

Good job! Some comments:

- maybe consider adding some background music and audio? I think that would have contributed to the atmospheric feel of the game, which was already really well done - as others have mentioned, make clear which elements are being affected by what the character is interacting with

Overall, really well done!

Wild Cards by Adtberp 2018-04-29T17:33:26Z

Nice 3D game! A couple comments: Was there a way to switch between weapons that I missed? I think some background music would have really added to the experience. Overall, well done!

YOU LEFT ME. by Angela He 2018-04-26T01:42:47Z

Beautiful atmospheric game. It hits hard. Great job <3

RPG Shop by Lawrence 2018-05-13T22:40:51Z

Very cool idea! I enjoyed this one a lot, and really tried to get all the achievements :) The only criticisms I have are that it was a bit slow to get started (you have to interact with 4 or 5 customers before things start happening) and if you drop an item in front of the counter, you can't seem to get it back, which sucked. Overall though, well done!

Mayor Metal Man by randomphantom 2018-04-29T22:12:07Z

Nice job! I played the LD release version and couldn't figure out how to get back into city planning mode, so that may have been fixed in the subsequent build. I do wish there had been more of a goal, but maybe I missed that being stuck in the city. Overall, good job!

Check, Please! by swav_gav 2018-04-26T00:36:45Z

I did struggle a bit at first figuring out how to move my hands up and down, so some clearer instruction there would have been helpful. Overall though, fantastic job! Too bad my date was kind of a bitch...

Blocks'N'Blaster by HPMNK 2018-04-26T00:07:49Z

This was very fun and a great interpretation of the theme. Nice work!

Rogue Crush by Team Catwheel 2018-04-30T01:11:58Z

This was a very cute game! Really nice graphics and audio. I did find it a bit hard to understand, particularly using daggers to kill enemies. The bottom right box indicated I had more than one to use, but selecting it in the grid of moves and clicking on an adjacent enemy did nothing. I also found the grid of moves a bit difficult to select and unselect, but that's a small thing. Overall well done!

Caves Of Mimicry by MZA 2018-04-30T00:29:48Z

Cute game! I really appreciated the tutorial, but I did get a bit confused at how to move the blocks around empty space, or how to predict which direction they'd go. Occasionally a bug would pop up that removed all the blocks from the game. Overall, well done!

Batteries Not Included by Untitled Studios 2018-04-25T23:52:10Z

Hi @untitled-studios! Unfortunately I had the same issue as the first commenter here, none of my controls are working. However it looks like a really cool concept and I'll check back soon to see if it works for me. Cheers!

Can I F◼◼◼g Die? by Sempiternal 2018-04-26T00:47:14Z

This is a super clever idea, well done! My only critique would be that the movement axes seemed to fight the actual plane of movement - they were offset by 45 degrees, so walking in a straight line on the diagonal surfaces was kind of weird. I had to keep alternating pressing w/d or s/a so I wouldn't fall off the edge. Overall though, really great idea and execution!

'Meme'bumps by Chetan pant 2018-04-29T22:19:37Z

I enjoyed the audio and the graphics here - the fading footsteps were a nice touch! I think adding in either some ambient lighting (a spooky torch or lantern) or making the lightning last longer would have been better to make out the surroundings and just be more comfortable to look at. Good job!

Dirty Pink by Carpin 2018-04-29T18:16:07Z

The visuals and feel of this game are excellent, well done! This game was a bit too beyond my skillset but I still really enjoyed it. Great job!

Blindly Loving by hasuprobe 2018-04-29T22:01:24Z

The audio is really lovely here. I do wish there had been more explanation of the controls, especially what primary and secondary type are. Good job!

Haiti Kitty by Beebo Studios 2018-04-26T00:53:01Z

Super difficult to bat that fish haha. This was a great idea, with some really cute audio and design. Well done!

Space Captain Rodriguez by CalebLewis 2018-04-30T00:53:03Z

Like others have mentioned, I also had a hard time keeping up with the dialogue while fighting. Bot overall, this was very fun and you guys made a really pretty looking game! Well done!

Cyclevania by Allen Oliver 2018-04-29T18:28:42Z

This was awesome! Really nostalgic. As others have mentioned, being able to hold space to fire would be nice. Overall, fantastic job!

Date Attack - A Dating Simulator Idle Game by PineappleBox 2018-04-29T17:55:37Z

This was a good idea. I think you should consider cutting down on the amount of intro story text and maybe adding in some background music. Good job!

A Kid's Nightmare by N.O.X 2018-04-30T01:17:19Z

Man, that was really creepy! Great job!

The Cards You're Dealt by Raindrinker 2018-04-26T00:03:06Z

Really enjoyed this. It has a real Magic: TG feel to me, with the fantasy feel and cards. The only constructive criticism I can offer is that an instructions page would be useful. It took me a couple of tries until I realized the 3 red dots were the monsters' lives, not their eyes haha.

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-26T00:57:21Z

Such a great idea! I think the title and idea is so clever. I do think having some actual beat boxing for the soundtrack would have been a nice addition, but overall, well done!

Fallen Leaves by LemonBalmGames 2018-04-29T17:22:18Z

Nice atmospheric game, I really enjoyed the vibe. Sadly I wasn't able to complete it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I appreciate that you released updated versions with bug fixes, as well. Good job!

text adventure platformer by Rs11s21n 2018-04-30T00:36:46Z

This is a clever idea, feels a bit like a card version of "choose your own adventure." It did feel a bit clunky and didn't really have an overall goal, which would have been nice. But good job!

Nanashi by JSD 2018-04-30T00:58:48Z

Nice job! Like others have mentioned, I found the 45 degree offset pretty jarring, especially on a keyboard. Overall, well done!

Bubblin' Cauldron by Tamino Laub 2018-04-29T18:55:05Z

Very cute game! I enjoyed the graphics and the music, they created a really nice atmosphere to play to. I'm not sure if maybe I missed something, but I couldn't get my mouse to throw in the web version, I kept having to pick everything up with RMB and walk to put it where I wanted it to go. Not sure if that's just me, but I figured I'd mention it just in case. Well done!

Raucous Raccard by noumenus 2018-04-28T20:44:39Z

Really cute idea and execution! The sound effects were great. I do wish there had been a bit more instruction at first on where to place the cards (occasionally I placed them just off the grid from the raccoon and would lose my turn) and a way to turn around Raccard if he ended up facing the wrong way. I'd be interested to see if you continue working on this one!

SmackPaint! Combat Painting with Ross Bob by GregWLyons 2018-04-28T21:33:26Z

I enjoyed this one a lot. Very good idea and well executed! A bit buggy sometimes - when trying to hold the paint and press A, it would sometimes drop, but overall, really well done!

Barry Has a Secret (horror, meal hiding simulation) by jamfella 2018-04-29T21:47:45Z

Mood here was really well done, I was definitely nervous playing and waiting for the cops to show up! There were a couple odd things that I think could be polished:

- items rotate when you carry them, so sometimes you can't tell how it's going to land when you drop it - when I lost, the screen faded to black, but I could still hear the cops talking about how my neighbour was missing - I wasn't a huge fan of the camera angle, as Barry's head and shoulder blocked out some of the right hand screen

Overall, well done!
