LD38 — A Small World

A Bloody Small World by blinry 2017-05-01T18:48:09Z

Love the game, beautiful and clean art. Cute characters and easy to understand gameplay (after initial confusion). Going with the blood flow was a little too fast for me at times, but other than that I enjoyed it a lot.

Toy Racer by Avon 2017-05-01T09:08:23Z

I like the aesthetic and the graphics. The driving physics were a little clunky, however. I kept trying to slow down as I headed into a curve only to find that that prevented me from steering. It also felt as though the car was rotating around the camera, rather than its own axis? Is that true, or is it just the fixed camera that makes it seem so?

Overall, it reminded me a lot of the old Micro Machines games, which is awesome! I had a lot of fun, I just wish the controls were a little bit better. :race_car:

This Moon is Mine by Togimaro 2017-04-28T15:14:33Z

I love the painterly art style. I have actually played it with a second player and it was fun knocking each other about. From the description I had thought that there would be more than one flag point and that it would be more a game of chasing around the moon and replacing the flags all over the place. I think just one flag made it a little too static. But overall I still enjoyed it.

Space Travel 15 by jk5000 2017-05-01T09:22:35Z

Interesting concept. It starts a little slow though. I think it would have been better to start with three airports right away, rather than forcing the player to click between two destination without any options for what feels like a long time.

Also, the escape button killed the game instantly, I was expecting at least a confirmation dialog (I mistook it for the pause button and accidentally quit everything ).

Overall, a neat idea and solid execution that would benefit from better pacing. Keep it up!

*Whshshsh* (love that sound)

Contamination by schizoid2k 2017-05-01T20:31:47Z

A fun little shooter, got 331 on my second run. Had zero on the first, because I didn't read up on how to shoot, D'oh!

Overall, I enjoyed it. Love the sneezing setup and sound effect. I feel that the super cell spawns a little too frequently. The game is still challenging, but that awesome super power stopped feeling special after a while. Also, is there a pattern to how many red cells spawn? Does it just get more difficult over time?

Alchemist's Prison by Max Amaden 2017-05-11T18:54:47Z

Beautiful graphics and nice mood. The sound effects had me laughing in the beginning.

This game has potential. Nice work and keep it up.

Back to Work by ztiromoritz 2017-05-01T09:35:44Z

Cute art style in a neat little puzzle game about timing. I love the player character and the jumping sound, as well as the mechanic and execution.

However, the game told me to create 12 orange and green orbs. I did that (it also shows 12/12). What do I do now? Is there something I'm missing? The todo-list doesn't update, returning to the start doesn't seem to do anything? Am I missing something?

So far I like the concept, wish I could have played more of it.

Tooth decay by Ithildin 2017-05-01T15:09:05Z

Funny game idea. It took me a while to realize that I am the bad guy. The graphics are nice and the controls are on point. Is there a correlation between how many times I drill and my need for sugar?

Overall a nice game

Your Planet: Too Big by Scriptorum 2017-05-01T15:19:09Z

Nice little puzzle game. I like your view on the ludum dare theme and the text mocking me when I loose the level  Good job!

Is it intended that the disappearing planets behave differently when I replay the level with the same clicks?

Carefulzilla by glimaleite 2017-05-02T10:59:57Z

I agree that this would make an awesome mobile game. A very polished execution on a great twist on the theme. Had me playing a few rounds and laughing all the way. Keep it up! I want to see that turned into a full game!

Pip Sweep by WeaverDeveloper 2017-05-11T19:05:05Z

I like the aesthetic and the graphics. The rubbing mechanic and the small "quests" were fun. I had trouble doing the rub-a-mole thing to the point where I was close to giving up. It eventually worked, I don't know what I did differently though.

It also took me a while to figure out the part about the key in the end. It is *really* obvious in hindsight, but maybe if that big stick tilted a little to indicate that something was moving in a certain direction. I completely missed the mini map at first, and I didn't quite know what to make of the rumbling... (which is 100% my own fault )

It wasn't a big problem though, and overall I had fun playing this.

Planet Domination by Sir Magic 2017-05-03T21:56:35Z

Simple and fun. It took me a while to notice that I only had to briefly touch the planets in order to conquer them. I had somehow expected I had to stay on there for a few seconds. Does it just count the planets you control in the very end? Or the number of takeovers you have performed during the game?

A score, and some feedback would have been helpful. It is also really easy to just snipe the enemies from a distance before they even notice you. Maybe opening up the third dimension would make the gameplay more engaging? It is space after all...

Overall, a fun little game with a nice voxel art style.

Little House of Horrors by Archimagus 2017-05-01T20:41:35Z

The atmosphere is pretty cool. I enjoyed the mood and art style. The wobbly chess piece player character felt a little too cutsie for its surroundings, though. (Which doesn't mean that I don't totally love that walking animation).

Starstruck Ducky by HuvaaKoodia 2017-04-30T13:45:32Z

Fun idea and spin on the small world (network) theme!

I love the unhelpful pirate duck and the fact that Steve just invited me to Steve's surprise party . I didn't quite figure out when a new day would start and how much time (how many calls?) I would have left. In the end I did get to tour with OnΓ© Becy, so everything worked out.

Big Foot in Smalltown by urbanhelsing 2017-05-02T22:15:39Z

I really like the idea, and it seems for the most part very well made. I agree that it's a little difficult to prevent hitting certain obstacles, because the player is lacking control over the step height. Unfortunately, I kept getting stuck in my shoes in the third(?) level. I reached the goal and then kept tripping over them, instead of putting them on.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game a lot and kept playing for a while.

BTW, I kept reading the title as "Big in Small Foot Town"...

Daydreaming Island by camilo 2017-04-30T19:21:14Z

I have no idea what I just played, but I stuck with it to the end, so I guess that says something . At least I think it was the end? It did say: "The End." and then it said "There's something weird about this box." and then the game froze on me?

I enjoyed the mood and atmosphere, but except for the keys that I found, I never figured out what I did to progress. I just kept clicking everything, going to bed and then repeating that process. At some point my character decided to just put codes into things and solve the puzzles for me. I had so many questions after finishing the game. Did I actually finish it? Where did the codes come from? Does the telescope do anything?

Also: "A human head. You almost threw up when you saw it, but it could be useful"

Good job.

Earth, 3568 by BoltKey 2017-05-01T10:56:09Z

A fun game with challenging gameplay. I like the simple and functional design - makes it easy to understand what's going on and what the player is supposed to do. The gravity mechanic is a neat twist.

Overall, a nice game that I enjoyed playing. Keep it up!

Paper traveller by dunin 2017-05-01T17:30:53Z

This is a very pretty game (thank you for the change font option) with well done puzzles. I like how the brush reacts to the paper  and how the art style fits the theme of the game.

Nice game! Keep it up!

Microspace by novodantis 2017-05-03T11:35:20Z

Cool concept, reminds me a lot of that old FMV game "Microcosm". The travel times were a little long for my taste, and the white blood cells are not that much of a threat once you get used to the controls. I think the game would have benefited from a little more opposition, or obstacles.

A map would have certainly been nice, I ended up getting stuck in a dead end on my first run and had to restart. Other than that it's a fun game.

Puppy's World by Gao Ming 2017-04-28T12:08:59Z

I love the sounds. The puzzle was easy but fun. Unfortunately it was really short.

The Adventure of Malvin by NOFUEL 2017-04-28T15:05:35Z

The pixel art and animations are awesome! It took a moment to get used to the controls but once I got the hang of it it felt really nice. I only wish the wall jump was little easier to pull of. It worked fine but the higher walls had me falling down three or four times. Which got frustrating after a while.

Bureaucratic Deity Simulator 2018 by mmason 2017-05-11T07:21:35Z

A very relaxing and very challenging puzzle game. Figuring out the combinations and chain reactions was very engaging, though I felt it started off a little too slow. It had me hooked once it picked up though. Good job!

Teddy The Tardigrade by wujood 2017-05-08T19:38:57Z

I also had the same issue with the jumping, but I liked the music and graphics. Well done :)

Asgard Invitational by zirconcode 2017-05-19T09:25:51Z

I like the idea of a gravity pong where you are not allowed to touch the ball. The winning move seems to be just building up speed and kicking the ball out of bounds, which was a little too easy. Maybe that'll be more easy to counter with some training though.

Overall, a neat idea! Keep it up

PS. You really need to put up a screenshot to make players want to try your game.

It's a Small World, So Let's Crash It into Things by simonhutchinson 2017-04-30T11:41:20Z

Nice game! Reminded me a lot of Osmos in terms of gameplay.

The Dark Star was immediately creepy and threatening, which was a really nice touch. The controls were a bit fidgety in the beginning, but got better as my planet grew in size (I guess that's as intended). I would have preferred if the camera would have pursued the planet smoothly, rather than jumping around. It was very distracting at first, but I got used to it fast enough.

Overall, nice compo entry!

Little Infinity by Kevin Barrios 2017-05-03T22:02:20Z

I love the aesthetic! I think this is the prettiest game I have seen so far. The puzzle mechanic is solid and a nice take on the theme. Not much else to say really. Awesome work!

Dreamers World by applejam 2017-04-28T16:05:08Z

I like the pixel art and animation of the little girl, especially her throwing and catching the sword during the roll. I think the game would benefit greatly from more feedback, I was never quite sure if I was hitting anything.

I also wasn't sure if there was any more than that initial stage? Is it a wave based game? My health seems to regenerate after a while, but I couldn't quite figure out whether it's supposed to be endless waves of enemies, or if I screwed up.

The World Outside by bacontree 2017-05-01T09:45:00Z

I love the 3d art style. Unfortunately, the camera was way too close and too rigidly attached to the character. Combined with the motion blur, this gave me severe motion sickness and I couldn't finish playing your game as soon as combat came up. Plus, when I tried to pause it to get some rest (I pressed ESC out of habit) the entire game just died on me without a warning...

Very pretty game that I wish I could have played more of.

A Small World . . . or is it? by gamerjenn 2017-05-03T10:37:09Z

I don't think I quite understand the game? I collected all of the boxes and the shark grew bigger until the game told me it was over. Is there a fail state?

I like the drawing in the background and the shark model, but I think the game would have benefited from a few more gameplay elements, such as obstacles, enemies, or timing restrictions.

The Perfect Sandwich by tomer_cool 2017-05-01T08:43:28Z

Cute little platformer. I used to give a lecture in which I explained software versioning by example of sandwich-making (it makes as little sense as it sounds like ), so I was immediately drawn in by the sandwich theme.

The art and animation are cute. It was a little irritating to not be able to jump off the ladders (makes sense though, since there is no separate jump key). Also there's a weird offset glitch whenever I press down while I'm on the ground near a ladder, and at some point I bounced up into the blue sky and had to restart the game...

Overall, I like the setup and the handling, while in need of some work, was better than many other platformers I played on here. Good job

Caturday is today by DemyHallar 2017-04-30T15:56:20Z

This is a very cute game. I love the animations of the cat, especially the walking. The art style is adorable and the music is fitting. Catstagram made me laugh:joy:

Planetary Assault Self Defense! by alpenter 2017-05-10T15:51:53Z

A nice little wave-based space shooting game. Why would you ever pick anything other than cannons, though? I died very early in my first run, because I gave all the weapons a try. For the second run I loaded up on all cannons... within a few waves I was up to all blue cannons and had no upgrades left to buy, and all I did was hold Space and turn right (with a rare aiming adjustments)

Overall, a neat game though! It just might need a little more balancing. Is there any gameplay difference between the planets? I didn't notice any, is that choice just cosmetic?

I like the aesthetic and the music!

Flerth by parahunter 2017-05-07T13:20:48Z

This is a very nice concept. I love the squeeeking sound effects and the graphics. At some point I had to smash the village ... which was fun ^^

I had fun playing! Nice work! :joy:

Flerth by parahunter 2017-05-08T19:13:29Z

I just replayed this for a bit, and I think stumbled on a bug?

I played a round in which the Peeps would only very rarely venture all the way to the edge. I had garnered around 5000 points when their city suddenly began to warp and slowly ascended to the heavens to be never seen again...

at that point the Peeps didn't really have any place to return to, so this happened:

bug.jpg

Atlas by CountTyranus 2017-05-07T13:25:06Z

Very beautiful and clean pixel art. I was sometimes not sure if I actually repaired stuff, but that's probably on me.

Overall, I like the game. Keep it up!

Infecteria by LiquidBrain 2017-04-30T11:23:45Z

Nice art style and concept.

However, while I couldn't make it past 13/30, I still didn't quite feel challenged. Is there a fail-state other than the 5 minutes running out? I think I would have liked something to evade while converting cells. Alternatively, if you are going more for a relaxed strategic angle, I would have liked a mini-map so that I could better optimize my routes and conversions.

Having to rotate the right thumbstick feels like a really neat mechanic at first, but my thumb still feels sore after playing just three rounds. Maybe you can use that in a way that doesn't require rotating the thumbstick for five minutes straight (a brief speed boost with a cooldown perhaps?)

Overall, a neat game that has potential for improvement. I am looking forward to seeing a more polished version in the future.

Super Plumber Man vs The Evil Elf King by BeamKirby 2017-05-19T05:37:21Z

While it didn't much feel like a game, I laughed out loud multiple times. Awesome ending, too.

Good job on that!

BUTERATOS by buteratosgames 2017-05-16T15:43:45Z

This was certainly interesting.

The art is really cool, very detailed and very polished. Some insane fun I would say.

Brawll by Bendev_Games 2017-05-01T15:32:46Z

The z and x keys were a little bit far away for me, but I am using QWERTZ keyboard, maybe using y as an additional key for z would help? The controls felt good and I like that there are different game modes. My strategy was to remove the bounds and wait until the enemy falls out, which was fun . Was this correct?

Nice game!

Protect by M-1 2017-04-30T15:38:14Z

Nice rythm game with good music. The easy mode was quite challenging for me but in the end I got a positive score

The screenshake made me a bit motion sick (but I am prone to that sort of thing), maybe another type of visual feeback like changing the color of the blue block would work better?

Overall, I had fun playing your game.

Moped Mayhem by Meenners 2017-04-28T13:54:09Z

It is fun to play and I like the art style. The score system is a nice touch

Petit Prince by jhawthorn 2017-04-28T11:48:55Z

Your game doesn't seem to work for me in Chrome. I love how the character just flips when switching gravity. Overall the game is a little short and unfortunately not challenging at all.

Djinn Duel by Corco 2017-05-11T19:07:26Z

Nice art and interesting game concept. It feels a bit random though, maybe limit the movement a little bit? I think this would make a good 2 player game.

Nice work for 48 hours

Murder Mitosis by _for_science 2017-04-29T10:26:00Z

@togimaro @samurai-spark I just added a little more explanation on the energy bar, since this has been an issue that has been coming up the last few days. You have to keep up your energy, you lose it if you attack or touch an enemy creature. You regain energy by eating this little gray food pellets. So as the game progresses and the board becomes more crowded, the game is supposed to become more about strategic positioning and better field control.

Thank you for playing and your great feedback!

Murder Mitosis by _for_science 2017-05-01T10:14:44Z

@m-1 You're right. It should be fixed now. Thanks!

ZEUS VS MOLES by Fouralex 2017-04-30T17:29:25Z

I like the 3D models. Attacking the moles is fun and the movement feels good. However, the camera movement made me a bit dizzy. Maybe a slower camera rotation would help?

Overall, a nice game, especially for 48 hours

LD-38 SUPER SMALL WORLDS by elZach 2017-04-30T14:19:33Z

This game looks weird, but in a good way

I got confused by background tiles looking like foreground tiles, making me jump on them and falling to my death. The controls made it hard to make a precise jump. Was this intended to make the game more difficult?

Overall, I had fun playing it though.

Influenza: The Game by longchamps 2017-04-30T16:27:35Z

I have to agree with @huvaakoodia that the gameplay is a little bit to easy for me. However, I am intrigued by the fact that you were able to make this game for the compo while you had a flu  Nice job!

Big Ship on a Small World by Samcam 2017-04-28T14:19:01Z

A cute idea. Some planets were not shown. Are your render layers in the correct order?

Soleil by JoyFired 2017-04-30T18:50:10Z

I tried launching in Chrome at first but it didn't seem to work (it wouldn't let me click play). It did eventually work in Firefox.

Unfortunately, the camera and the controls conspired against me. Once I had figured out that there were platforms at all, I still couldn't make the jumps. I finally had to give up due to severe motion sickness from the close camera, the jumping and the rotation around the curved planet.

Really sorry I couldn't finish your game, 3d jumping around a curved planet surface sounds like it could be a fun mechanic...

Floppy McFloppyface by Mars 2017-05-03T11:19:58Z

Well, that was... certainly something. Haha!

I like the weird art style, animation, and music. I had a surprising amount of fun playing this (I wouldn't have guessed from my first impression). Keep it up!

Johi Farm by AVAVT 2017-04-30T10:08:55Z

I had fun playing your game. Your introduction is easy to understand. Throwing the caterpillars off the plant and watering it was quite fun and the animation was cute. The controls feel good for the most part, but I kept pressing SPACE trying to jump (but that's just my own fault). I think the game would benefit from being a little less difficult (I could not make it past the three-level plant). Maybe make the caterpillars do less damage? Or let the plant dry out a little slower?

Overall, a cute idea within the theme.

Booster's Day Out by paulstraw 2017-04-28T11:38:37Z

I like your graphics and your game is challenging but fun. Are the walls just meant to prevent the player from skipping parts of the game or are they just meant to prevent you from having to watch yourself slowly run out of fuel, while drifting into deep space?

Cartography by Zorg 2017-05-01T16:40:05Z

I got lost all the time. Was this intentional?

The low field of view made me dizzy, so I had to stop after activating 6 towers. However, the controls felt good.

Interesting game that I wish I could have played to the end.

Fish Tank Simulator by PatrickD3121 2017-05-01T15:42:54Z

Hah, finally a game where I can talk to fish!

I don't know why, but in the beginning I had problems finding my fish, maybe giving it a weird different color would help. I don't think I quite understand the game. Is there a goal? Are there fail states? Why is the aquarium slowly filling up with more and more fish?

...claustroful... by David W 2017-04-28T12:00:21Z

The color mechanic in intriguing but way to challenging for me. The game is also really fast, so it took me a moment to figure out what was going on, and even after I did, I only made the first few jumps and dodges.

Dungeon In a Bottle by jhandsy 2017-05-12T10:31:44Z

I absolutely loved this! Very fluid, very challenging. There really isn't that much to say about this.

Unfortunately, the game bugged out on me a little ways down the line:

bug.jpg

It's the one where the walls are not crushing you, but are just "platforms" passing each other by. I accidentally let them pass and was stuck. So I decided to kill myself in order to restart the level. But jumping off screen only had me... well, jump off screen and I couldn't get back any more. Maybe you could put spikes around the platform so that the level would reset properly? Or maybe have the platforms just turn the other way at the bounds of the level?

Other than that, awesome entry!

Lost in the Woods by Pantsuman 2017-04-29T11:26:33Z

It's a nice little endless platform game. I would have liked more feedback on when I got hit (what's my health? Is it regenerating? Am I in danger of dying?). There also wasn't really a goal? I think a score of how many Enemies the player has killed would go a long way to making the player more active and take more risks. And maybe a wave indicator to suggest some progress?

I also think there should be some penalty on the fireball attack. Maybe you could have to collect mana bottles that randomly spawn throughout the level or something like that?

As it stands I ended up spamming the fire key while standing in the bottom left corner of the level and nothing could ever touch me...

Overall a neat little game that just needs some more work done. But definitely keep it up!

Pilgrim by Numb 2017-05-12T12:32:46Z

The pixel art is simple but moody. I had some problems with the arcade bullet-hell sections, but that's just me, I guess. The controls during the platforming sections feel a little slow (which may have been deliberate to support the mood?).

Overall, an interesting entry. Keep it up!

Gentrifry by bambivalent 2017-05-03T22:14:24Z

Gentrification successfully halted!

I enjoyed the idea and the weird sound effects. The art style is solid and the gameplay is fun. It felt challenging at first, until I just started spamming Dogs, or bigger units whenever I got the points. I just randomly placed whatever I had resources for... it still seemed to work.

Overall, an enjoyable, good looking and fun game that may benefit from some additional balancing in the future. Keep it up!

K.R.A.B.S. by limejuice123 2017-05-01T21:03:17Z

Nice two player shooter. Making a local multiplayer game is always a risk, and this would definitely have benefited from even a simple AI opponent. Good to hear you are working on that. Too bad it wasn't ready for the jam.

The music and sound effects are spot on. I also liked the shock wave distortion graphics effect.

We tried playing the web version first, until we ran into the problem of Player 1 pressing Ctrl+S, which is a bad idea while in a browser. (We had that exact same problem in our game).

Overall, we both enjoyed playing your game. Can't wait to see it developed further.

Odd Ball by mikeware 2017-04-28T13:43:46Z

Nice simple game. I like the idea. In the beginning I was a bit confused about what to do but after a while I got the hang of it. I think a little more feedback on errors would have been nice :)

Song of Fungus by DGSpitzer 2017-05-01T08:22:19Z

Amazing art style and polished presentation. Audio and music are on point and create a great mood in combination with the aesthetic. The gameplay is solid as well. A neat little puzzle game with in interesting combo mechanic that is challenging and relaxing at the same time.

Overall, great job!

Landshift by undefinist 2017-04-30T17:18:04Z

A very beautiful puzzle game. I kept pushing the arrow on the wrong side (absolutely my fault). Maybe for a future version, when hovering over an arrow the tile could show up (transparent) in the corresponding field. That could make it easier.

I think porting it to mobile sounds like a great idea :)

what's left by frostByte4k 2017-05-19T05:05:50Z

A fun and challenginge little platformer with very basic graphics. After my first three or four attempts, I was going to say it's too hard, but it wasn't frustrating and so I kept at it until I beat it. So then I wished for more levels and challenges.

Overall, I must say that at least the pacing and the motivational punishment are well-designed. Good job on that, and definitely keep it up!

Meteor Mania by Selgeron 2017-05-11T06:59:25Z

I enjoyed playing this, a simple arcade shooter. I like the art and weapon upgrades.

Overall, it was a little too difficult for me though. Keep it up!

Smell World by sgadrat 2017-05-01T16:05:19Z

The name of the game made me laugh

I like the hand painted assets and the wobbly walking animation. Unfortunately, the controls died on me a few times during the game and I couldn't move anymore (sometimes just a few directions, other times the controls gave up completely). I played it in Chrome. Moving in general feels a little stiff, as it is very tile based, with huge tiles.

Overall, a simple maze game with pretty art.

RASHLANDER by ryguydavis 2017-05-03T16:55:38Z

Interesting art style, very clean and retro. The controls were pure frustration though, but I guess that was the goal... :rage:

Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-04-29T10:48:24Z

I love the game, the message and the way it's realized. Took me a moment to figure out what's going on too, which made it all the more powerful. :soccer:

Not much to say, except congratulations on a very well realized game with a great take on the theme.

Bless You ! by aStrkl 2017-05-01T17:58:01Z

Good relaxing music and cool graphics. I like the funny setup of the sneezing god  At one point I lost a tomato on the bridge and I couldn't touch it until a trunk fell on it. I have to agree with @gleb-mineev that maybe a time limit for dragging things into (the black hole) citizen would add to the gameplay.

Awesome, a squeaking windmill :joy:.

FUEL by KCreanor 2017-04-28T14:34:41Z

Nice challenging game. The controls are smooth and everything worked fine. It was a bit frustrating at times, but in a good way: You keep messing up the level, but you know it is your own fault and you *want* to get better at the game.

Cosmic Cleaner by Burgee 2017-05-01T11:05:35Z

Great and polished game. I had a lot of fun with this. Gravity mechanics seem to be a big thing, but this is definitely one of the more engaging examples!

I love the art style and the cute planets. There's a good amount of content and a well explored core mechanic.

WRLD by x227man 2017-05-01T15:53:47Z

Interesting mix of Minecraft and Terraria :) I like the voxel art and muted color scheme. However, the jumping felt a little weird (maybe tune your physics a little differently). I kind of kept slowly floating in the air.

I think if you take a little more time with this big project, you could turn it into something fun. Keep it up!

MITOA by xmatos 2017-04-30T10:47:11Z

First off, the gray text on the blue background on the splash screen is a little difficult to read, maybe pick something with a little more contrast? It took me a moment to figure out what I was supposed to do, but when I did I saw that that was totally my own fault and it all felt fairly obvious. It was a little challenging to predict where the orange ball would go as it just teleports around, some visual indication would have helped there. It also took me a while to realize that there was *wind* going on in the bottom area. I had the audio turned off by accident (so that was my fault again), but some additional visual cues (streamy wind-lines?) would have helped a lot.

Unfortunately, the game crashed/got stuck for me when this happened:

game_crash.JPG

I could not get it to quit (it's still open as I write this)

Overall, a cute little puzzle game though.

A Small Wheel by Evan Minto 2017-05-03T11:42:20Z

This is a neat concept, I love how the world appears from behind the hinge of the wheel, very creative. The controls were a little difficult to get into, unfortunately. It took me a while until I managed to jump off one box and onto another. The game could definitely use some tweaks in that regard.

Overall, I had fun playing. I think this could work well as some sort of tap-to-jump endless runner game.

Tiny Defender by AlexisGea 2017-05-18T22:49:56Z

A very pretty little planet defense game. I absolutely love the art style.

I rarely found myself building anything in preparation, which is odd for the type of TD game that it is. I didn't have enough blocks to shield the planet, so it only made sense only to place them when I actually saw an asteroid coming. Is this intentional? Maybe this would have been different if the asteroids would cast shadows on the planet? That way the player would know something is coming from that direction but not how many there are.

Overall, a very pretty game though!

⬛️ by secret-tunnel 2017-05-04T11:27:44Z

Hehe, nice idea.

Particulate by Daniel Alhadeff 2017-04-30T14:30:02Z

This is a fun game with a good mechanic. The controls are on point. The music fits the game. Reminded me a bit of Osmos. Nice job

FLUORIDER by anim_ace 2017-05-01T16:16:14Z

Funny game idea. I love that the main character is using a toothbrush to fight. The art is really nice and the music fits the game. The z and x keys were a little bit far away for me, but I am using QWERTZ keyboard, maybe using y as an additional key for z would help?

Overall, I like the game. Keep it up!

Revenge of the Bananas by 2games2easy 2017-05-01T17:02:53Z

I like the music and the dancing king. I see the purpose of the fighting bananas. However, do the houses have a purpose? Are they meant as walls? It would be awesome if they would spawn warrior bananas.

Overall, a nice game. Keep it up!

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Capitality by Neon 2017-12-10T23:27:20Z

I just see the grid on launch, but have no idea on how to start playing the game. What am I doing wrong?

I would love to give this a try.

Boiler Room Defense by cerno-b 2017-12-11T21:24:14Z

I love the hectic nature of the game. It immediately had me panicked, but also hooked for a few more rounds. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past ~4000 points yet...

I like that your bullets clutter up the edges of your screen over time and turn into deadly hazards.

Bright Vision by crazyrems 2017-12-11T00:16:21Z

It's an interesting idea for a small VR game. I played it on my Oculus Rift and spotting the dancing cubes is a neat mechanic. It didn't feel as though there was any challenge though, the cubes just danced around me until I found the odd one out. I also got stuck in a seemingly endless loop of single cubes at the end. Am I missing something or is that the end?

Overall, I enjoyed the minimalist design and atmosphere!

*On a selfish note*: As you seem to have access to a VR headset, I would love if you could try our own VR game [**Rattletrap VR**](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/rattletrap-vr) and let us know what you think. Cheers!

Bright Vision by crazyrems 2017-12-11T00:48:54Z

Thanks @crazyrems, I figured it out now! I had actually tried to do the exact same thing before reading the post but I guess I didn't do it right and gave up too quickly. Nice!

Slashey (VR Only!) by shadowbrain 2017-12-11T00:02:08Z

This looks promising, so it's sad to see that it didn't turn out the way you had wanted it to. I enjoyed the locomotion system and the randomly generated dungeon seems like a neat idea. I also love the design of that bat enemy! I don't think I am doing combat right though, I can't seem to hit anything. Is there something I'm missing?

*On a selfish note*: As you seem to have access to a VR headset, I would love if you could try our own VR game [**Rattletrap VR**](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/rattletrap-vr) and let us know what you think. Cheers!

Downgrade VR (+Desktop) by mao 2017-12-10T20:49:37Z

Nicely done. The minimalist art style works well for the bullet hell gameplay. The restore point system seems a really nice touch, but I'm not entirely sure how it worked exactly and I most certainly used it wrong. Is there a more in-depth explanation that I'm missing? If not you could you elaborate on that a little more? I'd certainly revisit it once I fully understand what I'm doing.

Until then that's my score... is that good/bad? downgrade.jpg

*On a selfish note*: As you seem to have access to a VR headset, I would love if you could try our own VR game [**Rattletrap VR**](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/rattletrap-vr) and let us know what you think. Cheers!

Downgrade VR (+Desktop) by mao 2017-12-11T08:45:10Z

@mao Ah I get where the downgrade system comes from now. I was mostly wondering why the numbers kept going up and didn't make the connection with enemy colors! When I played it I mostly invested a few points in Score, then some in Health and then threw the rest around randomly a little.

I'll have to give it another try soon and try to beat my score.

Jazzy Beats by Moski 2017-12-11T22:12:23Z

Awesome game! I love the aesthetic, the sounds, and the gameplay. It's really polished, easy to get into, and fun to play. If I *absolutely had to* pick one thing to criticize it would probably be that hitting/converting fans didn't feel quite as impactful to me as I would have liked it to. But I don't think I'd fault a full game for that, much less one made in 72 hours...

I love it. Keep it up!

*Oh and this totally needs a versus mode!*

What's Yours is Mine by kumoi 2017-12-10T23:45:59Z

The crutch is in interesting locomotion idea, unfortunately it had me lean over way too far and it hurt my back after a while. Is there any way to adjust the height? I also never used the mine detector, but instead always had the shovel out that would just dig up any mines in front of me.

It took me a little while until I figured out what I was supposed to do, but once I did I got the hang of it quickly. Overall, I think the concept is fun but could use a little more polish. Cool to see some other VR games though so a big bonus just for that!

*On a selfish note*: As you seem to have access to a VR headset, I would love if you could try our own VR game [**Rattletrap VR**](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/rattletrap-vr) and let us know what you think. Cheers!

Reaper Boy LD40 Edition by jessefreeman 2017-12-11T23:54:40Z

This is a really nice and polished game. I love the pixel art and the retro gameboy color palette. The gameplay felt polished and fun, and I enjoyed the portal-like speed up mechanic to kill enemies. The feel of speeding up and finally hitting an enemy is well realized and has a nice buildup and impact to it.

I always like to give at least some minor criticism, but I really don't know anything that I would change... so, great job!

Lost Sakura by HellSquirrel 2017-12-11T22:39:28Z

I love the idea and the execution. I would have preferred if the keys were spread out across something more common (and two handed) like Arrow Keys and WASD for example. The current layout makes it very fiddly, but I guess that is by design? It is really challenging and fun the way it is though.

Overall, I had a lot of fun and found myself restarting again and again. I could never get past 11 though...

Quantum's Rick by cortexdeveloper 2017-12-11T23:01:56Z

An interesting take on the theme. Plus, it's a Rick & Morty reference, so you've got that going for you... even though I'm not sure what the legal gray area is there.

The mechanics are a neat idea. It's pretty easy to solve, but if you screw up on your first match it gets impossible pretty fast. I guess that's the point though, so well done. :)

The Tulpa by nahual 2017-12-11T00:39:20Z

I love the aesthetics and the atmosphere. Felt kinda Twin Peaks towards the end. The controls could use a little work though, especially if the mechanics make every step count. I was running into walls a lot, diagonal movement would be a nice addition. The swirl and the soundscape are very dreamlike and give the game a nice sense of urgency. I'm not 100% sure what I did in every room though... especially towards the end when it got harder to decipher the items due to the wobble. I guess that is fairly consistent with the dream theme though :grinning:

Alien System by Szab 2017-12-11T23:38:45Z

This is pretty neat. I did play it with an Oculus Rift + Touch and can confirm that it works alright if you have room-scale set up (which I do). I had a bit of a problem selecting build options, but I'm fairly certain that is the Rift's Touch controller's fault and not a problem with the game. I can see how using the Vive would have been the superior choice.

The game is intriguing. It took me a while to figure out how to generate energy (that was mostly because I had trouble selecting the Solar Generators from the build menu). I absolutely adore the idea of true 3D space strategy games in VR and while this could use a little more depth it's a solid jam entry.

The graphics are great, the music is incredibly moody and the general gameplay idea is elegant.

youwin.jpg

Everything got a bit chaotic towards the end, but apparently I won. :grinning:

One thing that needs fixing is the 3D text. It is not occluded by the geometry, which is very distracting. I think you might want to change the shader there.

Overall, good job and a big plus for daring to go VR too!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Humanity Hero by Guilb 2018-12-07T17:19:50Z

Nice. I like the atmosphere and the visual style. I would have liked if the early rounds would have been a little shorter. The clean interface makes it quite easy to grasp the concept, but all of the different factors come into play a little too late for my taste.

Other than that I enjoyed it!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Shoal by Kerdelos 2022-04-06T15:22:01Z

I was thinking: "Neat! This is pretty relaxing." Then it got faster and faster, I kept losing and gaining fish, and eventually all of them ended up stuck on some rocks and died... Fun times all around! (Great work!)

Eldritch Crossing by _for_science 2022-04-10T06:24:10Z

@lpettler The jam version already allows inverting the Y-Axis (in the Controls Menu). Adding an additional toggle for the X-Axis wouldn't be a problem though. Do you just need them inverted, or do you mean swapping X for Y?

Chicken Dinner by Brusi 2022-04-09T12:00:22Z

Clever idea, fun gameplay and a neat and clear visual style!

Catch the corrupt by Gonzo13 2022-04-06T15:12:24Z

I really enjoyed the clean pixel art style and the theme! (Speaking as someone who has also made a game about shredding evidence in the past...)

The puzzles feel perfectly paced. It always felt like I was done just in time.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Auto Parker by BathPirate 2022-10-04T19:28:44Z

I love the idea, and it plays really well!

I am not too fond of resetting the input after X attempts (I ended up cheating and snipped my inputs to make it through the last few levels). I don't think a hard limit is needed at all. I would prefer (and think it would be more accessible) if there was an optional scoring system that just tells you how great you are, for making it to the parking space in less than X attempts.

Overall though, I really enjoyed it!

TENSEC tactics by praleks 2022-10-05T08:41:06Z

Neat idea and I like the art style. I only made it to a little over 2500, which I don't think is very far.

Homunculus Heist by Ry-for 2022-10-05T18:18:59Z

That was very spooky and I obviously like the audio and art style (as someone who has worked on multiple dark pixel-style games for LDJam myself). I had no idea where I was running or what I was running from, but that unsettling audio made me just bolt it in whatever direction, which was *very* effective. Good job!

My first time playing I think I immediately ran face first into the monster, clipped through the floor and fell into the void until I died. On my second run I hit a dead end with an invisible wall that let me look out into the void. Apparently, when I run *away* in terror, I run *into* bugs...

Boomsticks by OgelGames 2022-10-05T06:59:41Z

Insane idea and fun to play. Does the gun explosion actually hurt enemies? If so, I could never properly hit them. I think it would be cool to add some additional effects to indicate that your gun is about to explode - it's easy to just miss the timer in the heat battle. Good job!

Before the Tide by Becher 2022-10-05T08:12:15Z

That's one obscene beach...

A very relaxing and communal experience. If this had soothing beach sounds, it could have completely derailed my play session of other ludum dare submissions. Well done!

10 seconds Delirium by Furano 2022-10-05T07:15:55Z

Weird and silly concept. I like it!

I did encounter several bugs though: I tried playing with gamepad (XB360) and found that the vertical controls for the yin yang sections are inverted. During the shooing sections, the right stick only turned my head at an imperceptible speed. I finally switched to keyboard controls, and eventually clipped through the walls into the eternal void...

Those bugs should all be quick fixes though. Overall, I had fun.

To Catch a Wizard by badcop 2022-10-05T07:37:43Z

I could not get past that boss. I figured out what to do, but that second phase instantly kills. I enjoyed the time mechanics up to that point though! Good job!

Cat Blaster by Charred Axolotl 2022-10-05T07:24:17Z

Solid gameplay, even if 10 seconds of waiting is *way too long* It's a little easy to get all the enemies by just following one big killing blast through the level. I did enjoy playing it though and made it all the way to the end. *Conglaturation* to you, too!

Headcount by Bogden 2022-10-05T08:31:36Z

Elegant concept. Great implementation. I got no notes.

I am incredibly tired, but still made it to 300ms somehow... then my brain started counting *upwards* for some reason. I panicked and missed by about three seconds. I'll get back to this after I had some sleep.

Escape From Post-apocalypse by Gnum_ 2022-10-05T18:58:04Z

That was a surreal game. I *thought* I was confused about what to do, but then I immediately found each place and item, and I never had any issues with my health bar---so that was good.

On my first run, I did fall off the back of the tower into a blocked off area that I couldn't escape. Maybe you could add an additional collider there, or just open up the back so you can get back out?
