LD38 — A Small World

Planet Domination by Sir Magic 2017-04-27T09:15:36Z

Well done, that was fun! The first game I got stuck on a loop for the last half, there was a ship on my spawn, and I kept dying and re-spawning. Getting invulnerability when you spawn would fix this. The second game I played I managed to win, but it felt like a back and forward game, not too easy and not too hard. The planets, background, ships all look great, the sound, even though loud, fit the game. Congrats!

Starstruck Ducky by HuvaaKoodia 2017-04-28T11:32:35Z

Hi there. Your game looks good, and even though there is no music in it, it sounds good too, and overall a good accomplishment in 72 hours. I felt like once I figured how the game works, there is no strategy, no meaningful choices, I'm just clicking away to victory. If you're going to keep working on this game, I think each choice needs to have some kind of an upside, and maybe there are some kind of random events so there isn't one strategy that beats the game. I think this kinda of game is very hard to pull off, gameplay wise. Anyway, good job on doing this in such short time, and good luck on the competition. PS : I forgot to mention, ducks are random but it's funny, and the dialog is funny too. Can you clear up on how does this fits the theme? Is it because it's such small world you can get in touch with famous people through your friends? Cheers

GALAXEN by mrerdalural 2017-04-28T18:17:37Z

Hi there, congrats on the game! If someone described me what this game was, I'd probably find it extremely boring, but it was actually oddly engaging. The fact that there were quotes on the planets, and not coins or a +1 on planets or something like that, left me wanting to find the next one. I think it would be nice if you left the author of the quote in it. The game looks good and the music fits nicely(even though you didn't made it, it's worth praising the music choice). It was fun playing around with the momentum while on a orbit, maybe there is gameplay that can be explore there. One problem that I found the game could have design wise, Is that, I spent too much time looking at the map and not at the scenery, which it seems a bit against the spirit of the game, maybe have a smaller map, or maybe you can only access it while in orbit of a planet. Anyway, good job on the development and good luck on the competition.

All The Way Down by luthwyhn 2017-04-26T19:04:40Z

Hi there, congratulations as well! It's a neat concept, besides being turn based, you have to think on your feet as you go. Unfortunately I lost because I reached a dead end and not because of a mistake, oh well. I think the game would be better if it got more challenging earlier, it feels like it takes too long to get out of the "easy phase". Cheers, have a good day!

Beer in Mind by pixelstuff 2017-04-27T16:47:04Z

Hi, your game looks amazing! I can see this being an interesting game if has proper minigames and actually challenging to make a day profitable, it would make the story much more interesting. After I lost, I think in the 4th day, I couldn't restart the day, it just brought me to the first menu, but this time the "start the day" button wouldn't work. The dialog is funny and it feels like you get to know the regulars, like a bartender would. Oh well, so much you can do in 72 hours, but I'd look forward to see a finished product. Good luck on the competition and I'd love some feedback on my game as well if you have the time https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/mitoa Cheers :beers:

Tiny Tony by Firewill 2017-04-27T09:05:30Z

Very impressive stuff. As other said, the dying sound is a bit annoying, and the game gets too hard too quickly i think. Maybe the first quarter should have more challenging coins to get to, so the player gets accustomed with the nuances of the controls, because the second level felt too hard right away and discouraged me to keep going. I think the third and the last levels are fine difficulty wise. One last complain, It's hard to see the ball when you first start the game, it matches the color of the snow, either change the ball color or change the theme of that one. All that said, since I got through the second level it got really engaging, fun and a bit frustrating(in a good away if that makes sense) and when I completed it felt like an accomplishment. The ending sequence is really nice, makes me want to see the whole game from first person :)

World en abyme by lepatryckduffy 2017-04-26T15:28:49Z

Hi, had fun playing your game, the levels were well designed, felt like each one I had to use different methods to complete them. I can see this being a small fun game with more levels and being more polished. The thing I disliked the most was your character being the next level, it may be a cool concept in theory, and it's executed well(with the zoom in and everything), but I think I rather have a proper main character. Check out mine https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/$19963, I'd love some feedback as well :)

Yours by binaryferret 2017-04-28T11:55:11Z

Hi there, congrats on making this in such short time. As it stands, it's like a neat sandbox tech-demo. I can see this becoming a game if there are some kind of objectives and you have to interact indirectly with the tribe(s) in order to achieve them. Or it can be just a sandbox, with more interactions and unpredictable stuff happening, that can be fun too. It looks ok(3d models look really good, the terrain not so much), sounds good, I had fun interacting with it for about 15 minutes. Good luck on the competition and, if you're going to expand on this game, good luck on that too.

Belaruse Panic by bitdecay 2017-04-26T16:22:27Z

Hi there, I played your game for a while, here's my thoughts: Let's start with the good stuff, the driving feels nice, the camera zooming out while the faster you go is a nice touch, technically the seemed to work well, it's impressive amount of stuff you've done in such a short time period. And now the not so good, the game isn't exciting, having to keep track of my 4 different meters feels like a chore, and I felt no urgency in completing the fares and when I did them I felt no accomplishment. Without a mini map there is no way to plan my driving, there is no reason to pick a fare between 3. Having an arrow pointing to the destination the way isn't always an accurate indication of the way since I don't know if there are walls in the way. The symbols are sort of a mini map, but there is no indication of which is nearer and which is farther away, so when I'm looking for a restaurant I just gotta hope the one I pick is near me. I hope you don't take my criticisms too hard, this was still a great amount of work in such a short time frame, and I can see it being a great game with more work putting into it. And now, I shamelesly ask you to play my game, I'd love some feedback(don't hold back). https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/$19963

Need authorization to download it, could you post a more accessible link?

SMWORLD by N8M8 2017-05-16T23:26:59Z

Hi there. I found the rules a bit confusing, can the land become greener? Is there a goal, or should I make my own goal(make the blue people win for example). Anyway, the idea of controlling these tribes with just controlling the resources is an interesting idea that I could see in a strategy game or in a sandbox game. The graphics are simple but they serve their purpose very well, the audio is bad and serves no purpose(sorry ) Congrats on making this in such short time!

Rise of the Termites by Togis 2017-04-29T06:26:11Z

Hi there, congrats on making this game. The ants look good, given the time limit, I think the background would look better if it was more simplistic. I feel like having to wait to excavate the rooms doesn't add much to the game, it's just another step I've to wait, I rather have the rooms already available and have to wait for the "buildings" to being built. This way would not only skip a step but also I'd know how many rooms I have to work with from the beginning. First time I've played the tutorial I failed because I've had no more rooms available to built, so I had to start all over again. The second time I've managed to almost complete it, but even though I had 5 warriors and 5 workers, the objective list didn't show that I'd reach 10 population. Also, the soil takes too much time to build up(is there a way to improve the rate that you get soil?). I think that this kind of game is hard to pull off, maybe it would be easier to make fewer levels, maybe even just 2 levels, one easy and one hard, so it would give you more time to tweak them and make them more enjoyable. If you keep on working on this game, I can see it being a cool pc/mobile game, good luck if you wish to do so, and good luck on the competition. Cheers!

Slightly Angry Max by Takusan 2017-04-28T12:16:58Z

Great job on the game. As other already said, the movement feels too slow, and the AI is lacking(which is understandable since you only had 72 hours). I also think that the game would benefit from a smaller game room. Overall, your game just needs more stuff to make it more interesting, which you probably already ideas for. Good luck on the competition and on the development.

Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-04-27T09:31:41Z

Hey there, congrats on the game. The thing I liked the most is that aimlessly trying to get a highscore, instead of stopping and observing, is a really good metaphor to live the same daily routine, instead of living. don't know if that was intentional or not, but I felt like you nailed the gameplay to give the final message. The art is really good and the game was a nice experience.

MITOA by xmatos 2017-04-26T19:12:55Z

@nandemoguy Thanks a lot, it sounds like you completed the first half of the game, you'll need to pay attention to the background to solve the rest. @binaryferret Thanks a lot, I'll check your game soon :)

MITOA by xmatos 2017-04-29T16:57:42Z

@firewill @thecrancher @pixelstuff @togis @huvaakoodia : Thanks all for the feedback, it's all very appreciated. @huuvakoodia Many components were rushed in making this, I just wanted to have a finish product, and then I could fix things, don't know if this is the best way to go but that's what I did anyway. The main character was simple so I wouldn't lose much time in animating him. The elevators problem was apparent to me, and would be a very easy fix, but I had more alarming issues to resolve. It's funny you mentioned the teleporter, it was a late addition, I needed a faster and more convenient way to get up rather than use the elevators. The fruit pushing is for sure the mechanic I have to work and think the most, the level itself was made before I figured out the distance that the fruit would travel and that's why it lands in such awkward positions. You're right, once you figure out the puzzles you should be able to do them with no problem.

MITOA by xmatos 2017-05-01T15:08:10Z

@samurai-spark Thanks, That apple seriously needs more work on. @for-science Thanks, The menu was left to the last minute. I should had it clear that playing with sound is recommended, and yeah, I'll have to add on multiple visual cues. @arcticmattekar Thanks a lot, I'll have to keep in mind different keyboard layouts, and at least I'll add a re-bind feature. @move127 Thanks, I'll make it so when you figured the puzzle out, you should be able to complete it easily. The theme is simply a very small game world, it takes about 5 seconds to do a complete loop. @lepatryckduffy Thanks. @takusan Thanks, I'll try out to experiment with different art styles in the future.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Ages of New Earth by HitchH1k3r 2020-04-23T05:07:33Z

Hi! I loved the 3d cards, they really look great. The rest of the game looks good too, and the music was good as well. I honestly felt a little lost during it, sometimes when making decisions didn't really understand what each choice was, I felt like the game threw too much at me at once. Good work, have a nice day.

The Show Must Go On by Jedeen 2020-04-21T02:25:30Z

Congrats! Overall good job, really like the theme and the art. I think I would've prefer if the "performances" were quicker, it felt a little bit like dead time in the game.

Hope is a turtle by Pulu 2020-05-04T11:18:44Z

Got 1663 points! This is was a fun game! I liked the idea of the different environments, but thought that the music change was too abrupt. I can see this game being like a classic arcade game. Congrats, have a good day.

My Balloon Friend LD46 by Seraphina 2020-05-03T18:09:45Z

Hi. Liked your game, thought it started too hard, the sound gets a bit annoying after a while. Really liked the main mechanic, had fun playing it. By the way, I use gamemaker as well, you can use screen_save to get screenshots(https://docs.yoyogames.com/source/dadiospice/002_reference/windows%20and%20views/screen_save.html). Congrats, have a good day!

Guilty Transplant by AntaresValdemar 2020-04-23T04:36:12Z

Great job! I thought that the game fits perfectly into the theme. It looks good, the cover art is amazing. Music sets the mood but gets annoying fast (no time for everything, i know). It was a bit annoying to have to use the mouse when my hands were on the keyboard. Good work, have a nice day.

BOILING PLANET by Tudvari 2020-05-03T17:41:46Z

Hi. Found the game interesting and very intuitive. Looks good, sounds good. I found myself just waiting during it, I wonder if it would make more sense for it to be a turn based game rather than a real time one. Congrats on making it, have a good day!

It was your fault by Gavin Camlin 2020-04-22T02:44:58Z

Loved the look of the game. Unfortunately couldn't really play it, had a hard time dealing with the camera and kept falling through the infinite void.

Keep it Lit! by mharring 2020-05-07T14:02:21Z

Great job! Looks amazing, sounds good too. I just thought the game itself was too simple, needed something more. Have a good day!

KeepUsAlive by Huang Sicheng 2020-04-21T02:14:32Z

Hi. Congrats on making this game in three days! ´ I really like that it forces you to take a different approach than you would in this kind of games. I also like the main characters sprites(why is he holding a sword though?). I didn't like that the game starts without giving you a chance to read the instructions, I also though that it started way too hard, I got overwhelmed fast.

Keep Him Alive by Bulent Altinay 2020-04-23T05:02:22Z

Hi, Congrats on your first LD! Unlike others, I really didn't mind the controls, maybe there should a tutorial area where the ground doesn't get destroyed so the player can get use to it, or maybe the character could be a car, so it would make the turnung mechanic more intuitive. Good work and have a nice day.

Verbose by santriptasharma 2020-04-23T04:27:30Z

Hi! The game works well, looks good, sounds good. I thought that the best thing about it was its premise, it was funny and ridiculous. I think it would make sense if the gameplay involved words somehow. Good work, have a nice day.

Keep The Bouncy Thing Alive by mypalmike 2020-05-03T17:29:14Z

Hi. Only realized it was a multiplayer game after I played it and read the description. Like you said, it needs polish, but it still was fun to play as it is. I find multiplayer always so daunting to approach, so, congrats on making one(and in two days!!)! Have a good day!

Heartbleed by terminal29 2020-04-21T05:39:59Z

Good little game, it's impressive that you've done it in 2 days! There was a jump in particular that was very unfair, you couldn't see the bottom. Earning lots of money in your last life is pointless since you can't use it anyway, maybe you should be able to get upgrades while you're alive. Overall it was a fun experience, congrats!.

Bonded Crusaders by Joshachu 2020-05-07T14:14:25Z

Well done! I loved the nonsense setting, loved the way the game forces you to make quick decisions. The green balls in the background were confusing(I was trying to grab them), Also thought the platforms hitboxes could be better. All in all it was good fun, got to 183 seconds! Have a good day.

Propagate by ZipLockBagMan 2020-05-04T11:31:13Z

Fun game! Perfectly fits the theme, looks good, sounds good , it was fun! I wish I could've seen my score after the game is over. Congrats, have a nice day.

Keep Me Alive by rrrzzz 2020-05-03T17:58:30Z

Sorry, the game didn't seem to be working, I'll try again if you have an idea how to make it work. Have a good day.

Spirit Of Dying by Sierpinski-Simon 2020-05-03T17:51:40Z

Cool short game. Perfectly fits the theme, loved that game over animation. I felt like the game should show whole rooms, otherwise it feels unfair. I like the resource management aspect of it, You don't necessarily want to pick all the hearts at once, I thought that was cool and fun. Congrats, have a good day!

Koita and the Elder Relics by Toasted Oregano 2020-04-23T05:15:14Z

I couldn't really play your game, I feel like it'is running faster than was intended, if I tap an arrow key, the character flies through the screen. I'll try it later and I'll give grades then. Have a nice day.

Tankageddon by Sean Sullivan 2020-05-04T11:34:46Z

Hi, nice game! Looks great, sounds great! It's a bit annoying to have to click the corner of the screen to buy a turret, perhaps you should be able to access a mini menu using the right click button or something like that. Congrats, have a nice day.

Conduit by reheated 2021-04-26T16:37:10Z

Amazing puzzles, some of them got stuck for a bit, they fell very rewarding when you got them. I'm impressed that you did this in 2 days. Great job! Good luck!

Arctic Drilling Team Simulator by Flatgub 2021-04-28T12:26:15Z

I couldn't play the game properly, the collision of the mouse seems to be offset. I need to aim the mouse lower of the objects in order to hit them.

Robo Delve by Thalikoth 2021-04-28T12:24:46Z

Unfortunately, the window of the game starts in above and to the left of the top left corner of my monitor, I can only see the bottom right corner of the window, making it impossible to properly play the game.

Dungeon Depths by MaximBegunov 2021-04-29T18:01:45Z

Nice physics, great atmosphere, all around very fun. I think it would be more enjoyable if the character was quicker, particularly going up and down the ropes. I think I got to the end, there was a chest(I think) on the left, and as I jumped off the rope the game crashed with this message: Variable obj_player.child(100027, -2147483648) not set before reading it. at gml_Script_player_read_controls_climb Anyway, good job, and good luck.

DIGIDIG by NekuSoul 2021-04-29T10:28:15Z

Untitled.png Well done! really simple, really fun! An endless mode with some chasing mechanic would be fun maybe?

Micronaut by healthire 2021-04-30T11:52:17Z

Really liked this! If you expand on this you could create the most convoluted puzzles xD. Don't know what I can say that is negative, perhaps there's a way to make the "boxes" more visable? Good job and good luck.

Micanthul by alexhall 2021-04-29T18:36:07Z

I loved the atmosphere, the presentation. Really dark and gloomy, as it should be. There was however a lack of interactivity with game, didn't feel like I was playing it. Good job, good luck

Drawn Out by xmatos 2021-04-26T12:35:19Z

@ariorick Sorry, I can't get the HTML5 version to work, and I can't build for OSX. If you have gamemaker2 you can play it through the project file.

Dynamite Depths by Peter Jonsson 2021-04-29T12:40:55Z

Nice concept, easy to understand, easy to read. There's potential for interesting puzzles, but, at least for this version, the difficulty was lacking. Anyway, good job, good luck!

The Depths of Despair by Michael Feldman 2021-04-27T08:34:15Z

Almost quitted on the first puzzle. The environment looks great, as does the shooting animation. Incredible that you made a whole (small) game from start to finish including a boss fight. Good job and good luck!

Where is Bob by ubershmekel 2021-04-26T08:50:31Z

Interesting mechanic. In many of the levels I didn't get to actually "play", because I would get to the target before actually having to navigate with the sound. I wonder if the game would benefit from a larger area to solve this. Anyway, good work and good luck.

Ludum Deep thought by Glimmer 2021-04-29T18:22:54Z

Really liked the idea. I whish I could go back in the tree to finish the thoughts of all of them. Also I think that the count should be easier to read. Anyway, Good job, and good luck.

Couldn't play because the window gets to the left of my monitor, in the tutorial.

Rope Down by Wunarg 2021-04-26T08:53:47Z

Got to 388. Really fun. Avoiding the enemies can be frustrating, and sometimes infuriating. I think I would've enjoy more if the game was more focused on platforming. The ropes feel good! Good work and good luck!

Robo-Driller by Famicon80 2021-04-26T13:49:40Z

You made me download the project file so that I could play it with a bigger screen xD. This was very fun to play, it's harder than it looks. The real time aspect of the game makes it feel more frantic and more exciting. I would've think that the option to move up would make this kind of game too easy, I'm very surprised that this works very well, and it made it feel like something I haven't played before. I got 11350 high score so far. Great job, good luck.

Robo-Driller by Famicon80 2021-04-26T16:08:40Z

@famicon80 You're right, you can resize the windows, don't know how I missed it.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Secret of the PeaDucks by Iak 2018-04-25T15:17:13Z

Well done. I felt like the platforms were too small, they don't give much room for error. I also felt like missing a platform was too punishing, going all the way back, in most sections.

SKYWOOOD PIER by designernap 2018-04-26T11:13:39Z

It's incredible you did this in 2 days. It looks and sounds amazing. Love the whole aesthetic, the music and the planks falling off and what not. The generated "story" it's just full of nonsense, it's a neat idea, but a proper story would probably better. As for the game itself, it's really boring, you just walk aimlessly, from door to door. Overall good job and good luck for the future.

Jackhammer by jojocanard 2018-04-29T17:38:51Z

I liked when you lose, you get to create a shortcut, I still don't want to lose, but it's not too frustrating. Good job on that! I liked the audio, but I don't know if it should be in the competition. Good job overall and good luck.

Aloisius by Rongo Matane 2018-04-24T13:59:49Z

Played twice and got crushed. Very interesting, really makes you think. I liked that you need to sacrifice your units to damage the main building, makes it hard to manage when's the right time to attack. I want to see someone who's good at chess play this now. Good job overall

Stealthy Frickin' Ninjas by herinque 2018-04-29T17:08:42Z

Praxre by cenullum 2018-04-24T12:53:54Z

I liked the mood of the first part, it's a neat effect when the monster gets closer. It would be cool if the two genres worked together better, instead of being two completely separate things.

Tipio's Grand Typery by NedStormFish 2018-04-25T15:31:49Z

Cool concept. after I finished the first "real" run, I clicked "done", and it brought me to a text but there was no cursor, there was nothing I could do. The music is fine, but it gets annoying, I think it would work better with more ambient music, or no music at all, and more use of sound effects, it would help the player concentrate better. Overall good job and good luck in the future.

Torrejón Love Story by Yahialds 2018-04-26T10:54:54Z

Great game! The only thing that really didn't like that much, was the beginning, felt like there was no point to that section, and all the choices were inconsequential.
