The game is good and fits the theme too but the reason why you are not getting that much of ratings in because of the dependencies that your game needs to run. keeping that aside, good job.
Can't open it :(
Sorry, there was an error with The jar file Java version 9. The build error is now fixed. It should be available now on both itch.io and GitHub pages (The links above).
Sorry none of the links work on my mac...
``` Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/anirudh_munipalli/ldjam48/Game has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 59.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0 ```
@dhim, please try downloading the "The Ocean's Treasure v9.jar" as this works for java 9, if you downloaded the other one, you need Java 15 or higher. Thank you!
Tried with both versions... ``` java -jar The\ Oceans\ treasure\ v9.jar Error: A JNI error has occurred, please check your installation and try again Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/anirudh_munipalli/ldjam48/Game has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 59.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0 ```
@dhim , I think this error is caused because you are using java 8. I have updated on the website a new version of the file, for java 8. Please try that out: https://anirudh-munipalli.github.io/TheOceansTreasure/
I noticed that I was able to play past the time limit, and pick up items with a full inventory (though did not get credit for them). I can see what you were going for, a kind of game made out of just inventory management. And while that could work, I think I'd need more motivation than a high score. Regardless, good work for the compo!
Good game. You can expand upon it and make it better in a post-jam version. The sprites are not transparent (You can make them transparent online) and you can add some enemies which try to kill you while you are collecting items. For your first game it's really good! :)
Hey fellow Java developer :D I like the concept behind the game but it's not very hard to play and not very satisfying. There's nothing really stopping you from collecting all rubies, it's just based on where the gems are randomly generated. There needs to be more obstacles/mechanics so it challenges the player in some way. Also just a little thing but the graphics can be improved by making the backgrounds transparent as someone else mentioned. Overall its still a fun game just needs some polishing
I liked the graphic effects when descending a lot! Tension was nicely building as the background got darker, and it was a good touch when the font color inverted and eventually turned red.
I did notice one bug, where the item pickup text still displays after your inventory is full. Not a big deal but just FYI.
Good job!
Simple game. I believe you can make a game much better using Unity. Overall good job.
"Awesome. I like hard things." :joy:
The most challenging parts of this game were a) trying to figure out how to properly start up the game, and b) trying to figure out how to play. At first, I thought I could just move with the arrow keys to collect the gems. It took me a while to realize that you had to click the mouse, and it was a lot simpler to play than I actually realized. After that, it felt like the game itself was like the ending prize, like "congrats, you figured out how to play this game, now get all the gems you want".
It wasn't exactly the most satisfying game, but I do appreciate the little comments that appear when you collect items as you descend. They were the most charming and distinct thing about this entry. There's something quite sad about seeing a plain, neutral faced person casually descending in the emptiest depths of the ocean with nothing but a white bubble surrounding him. Without fish in the ocean, we come to realize: What have we become, with all our spoils going to waste in the depths?
Maybe the diver was simply trying to clean up as much waste as he could. What a hero.
