LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

It's Dangerous: The Escort Quest by nitrik 2011-05-02T06:27:00

Overall I really liked it! I thought the main mechanic was very interesting and was used in some pretty cool ways. Unfortunately, I found the controls to be frustratingly inconsistent. In some parts (like the room with 3 bouncing red things that you have to trap in various parts), I couldn't get the fairy to place/remove blocks nearly responsively enough. But other than that little complaint I really liked the game! My favorite so far.

LD22 — Alone

Filling Time by fueelin 2011-12-19T21:52:00

Yes, yes it does. I will put up better instructions within the next couple hours. They are certainly lacking!

LD26 — Minimalism

Unfinished Cube by Mega1mpact 2013-04-29T04:30:00

Pretty fun, good use of the theme. Found myself falling into lava pits (presumably that's what they are) more once I knew they were there, which was interesting.

Illumbox by TylerC 2013-04-29T05:04:00

Pretty easy but really liked the aesthetic. The colors were awesome and the graphics in general worked nicely with the music. Good work.

WhiteSpace by argo15 2013-04-29T15:00:00

Cool idea, very good application of the theme. Liked the camera trickery. Mouse sensitivity was a little high for my taste.

Squeeps by Ryusui 2013-04-30T05:23:00

Really cute, cool game. Enemies were pretty creepy, especially contrasted with the cuteness.

Bliss Wings by john_conder9 2013-04-30T05:25:00

Cool game, wish there was some checkpoints though. Liked the different block types.

Super 3D BlockLand by hardycore 2013-04-30T04:46:00

Awesome game. Loved the ability mixing and the difficulty scaling/pacing of new mechanics. Got stuck sorta after a bit, sad that I didn't finish. Really good though!

On Minimalism by richy486 2013-04-29T22:19:00

Fun game, good use of theme. I like the implicit music caused by the rhytmic crusher things. As others have said, this game kinda hurts my eyes... Seems like a few games in this LD have that quality :D

Jump by Test User 2013-04-29T05:26:00

I agree that the trailing graphics are sweet. Good use of theme as well.

for science! by xandy 2013-04-30T04:50:00

Looks really good, some really interesting ideas. I like the whole 'degrading systems' thing and the way it's visually implemented. Wish the aim was a little tighter; maybe the movement too. Cool game.

Also the most minimal thing about this game was my score. Somewhere in the negative ten thousands :(

What Would You Do? by Psytew 2013-04-29T22:32:00

5 star use of the theme. .bat files are awesome. Doesn't seem to handle backspace though... Or maybe it's just the bug someone else pointed out with the wrong choice-number mapping. If that's the case, the bug still exists.

Bouncy Ball Extreme by Ray_Mickelino 2013-04-30T02:58:00

Cool game, liked the graphics. Reminds me of the Chaos Emerald stages in Sonic 1 a lot...

The Rules Are Simple... by saampahlavan 2013-04-29T04:27:00

That was really really good. Very fun/satisfying and great use of the aesthetic. Awesome.

Rect by Esenti 2013-05-05T17:58:00

I really liked this. Wish it was longer, and some of the time limits could have been a bitter more generous I think. Good job!

Farmworld by svenardo 2013-04-30T04:53:00

I got owned pretty hard. In fights and by the level generation. Unless I wasn't getting something...

Orbit by boboKat 2013-04-30T04:59:00

Kind of similar in idea to my entry, really cool stuff.

Milton by ZYXer 2013-05-02T01:03:00

Really good game. I enjoyed it a lot and it fits the theme well!

Invertigo! by unusualcadence 2013-04-29T04:00:00

I liked the music a lot. Controls were just a tad floaty for my tastes but overall fun game.

-- by vegard1992 2013-04-29T05:24:00

I'm able to run it now, couldn't before so hopefully that means it's fixed... I didn't get that specific error though. Yeah tutorial would be good, a bit confusing.

BatWorld by Farjuan 2013-04-29T22:40:00

Cool idea, bit tricky to get used to but very interesting.

Blob Runner by TheThirdOne 2013-04-29T05:20:00

Fun lil autorunner. Liked the audio and graphics. Very tranquil overall experience.

Minima by Andy West 2013-04-29T05:22:00

Not bad. Good pump up music for sure, liked the spaceship graphics.

Minimo by mire 2013-04-29T04:05:00

Cool concept, pretty tough. Liked the 'tutorial' :)

Seven by Baknik 2013-04-29T22:25:00

Love the style and use of theme. Really cool game.

The Painter's Cat by Arcana 2013-04-30T04:40:00

Wild game. Very interesting combination of concepts. Seemed to loose a little too easily, but liked playing around with it regardless.

Diet Simulator 2013 by greysphere 2013-04-29T04:39:00

Cool idea. Definitely an interesting take on the theme, made me smile.

Color Blind by Alec Von Arx 2013-04-29T04:51:00

Neat game, though it feels kind of like a guessing game at 16... I liked it.

13 Squares by aduros 2013-04-29T06:04:00

Awesome game, pretty tough. Really cool take on the theme. I also quit after 3 coins though. And agree that I wish there was more ofa checkpoint system.

You Don't Belong Here by Kinzata 2013-04-29T03:59:00

Nice work, definitely a lot of fun to play. The graphics and sound are effective too and match the theme well.

Milo's Bridge by Adjotur 2013-04-29T04:13:00

Ran fine on my computer, but I couldn't really seem to damage the second enemy type... Bridge got owned :(

Tubulance by merteor 2013-05-06T22:38:00

Excellent game. Really fun to play. If the battery on my laptop wasn't about to die I'd still be playing!

Virtua Luge by skwirl3014 2013-04-29T04:58:00

Lol Sonic 2 inspired? Pretty fun though.

fightfightfight by bleatingheart 2013-04-29T22:38:00

Awesome. That was very well done, sound, graphics, humor, etc. Excellent work.

Street of Rave by TinyDrakkarStudio 2013-05-05T17:27:00

Really liked this, great concept/reference. Wish it was a little harder to get killed but I still liked it a lot.

Super Minimalistic by spilth 2013-04-29T04:43:00

Dudes so happy, but the effects when you collect too many items are pretty creepy. I liked that a lot.

Cress by thristhart 2013-04-29T05:31:00

Pretty interesting but couldn't figure out how to get much done.

Shaving Quest: The Razor's Edge by Milktoast 2013-04-30T02:52:00

I enjoyed this a lot more with debug mode on! Funny game, liked the animations.

Spheres by fueelin 2013-04-29T04:56:00

UPDATE: Added folder to .rar with non-installing .exe, can just run that directly. Let me know if there are still any issues.

Spheres by fueelin 2013-04-30T04:32:00

UPDATE: If the game crashes for you on start, look at the description above for fix. Also, updated version fixes previous 'infinite ball' crash and issues w/ launcher aim going off screen and preventing level completion.

Spheres by fueelin 2013-05-02T01:38:00

Haven't but played it before, I'll try to check it out though. Yeah the balls getting caught on things are pretty annoying, I tried to minimize the annoyance of the sound etc but didn't quite get it fully fixed... I'm definitely going to work on this more.

Balance by jhonpi 2013-04-29T23:10:00

Really fun, cool idea. Good use of theme. Sounds got a little annoying to me but still liked it a lot!

Hero's Journey by hamster_mk_4 2013-04-30T04:38:00

The graphics/presentation is really good. Thought the combat was a little slow/unresponsive. Got owned by hitstun. Loved the 'go right' hand, classic touch.

A Game of Numbers by JoeDev_net 2013-04-29T05:07:00

I liked this a lot. Simple/minimalistic math fun. I thought the screen shake effect added a lot too.

crush. by oatsbarley 2013-05-05T18:39:00

Liked this one alot! Very tranquil, plus interesting and fun gameplay.

Exploding Cubes of Cleanliness by negativeview 2013-04-29T04:10:00

Cool concept. Reset Level button didn't work for me, seemed kind of easy to screw the level up and then kinda stuck

Nod by Rose 2013-04-29T05:01:00

Agree with Jack. I like the art.

# by Kitch 2013-05-01T06:06:00

Really cool game. Interesting aiming/moving mechanic, and I liked the different layers as well. Good use of audio, you're right that there's some similar ideas with my game in that regard :)

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Seven Souls by BrothersT 2014-04-30T00:14:00

Really enjoyed it. Very expressive characters, especially given their simplicity.

Behind Mirror by SaintHeiser 2014-04-29T06:18:00

Awesome game. Really enjoyed playing (and beating) it, and it looks great too!

Murder Clown by Just_delete_it 2014-05-02T03:45:00

Daaaamn.

Under Earth by illugion 2014-04-29T04:28:00

Agree with others about the feel/crunch. It reminded me of Cave Story personally, but Vlambeer is another good comparison for sure. Great job.

Kalahari Babysitter by TijmenTio 2014-04-28T23:39:00

You can get a pretty high score by spamming the button in the middle two tunnels, but other than that this game is awesome! Great graphics and mood and a very original concept.

Hughes by SnoringFrog 2014-05-02T06:07:00

Lol good pun.

Dr. Pepsi Marriage Consultant by Thingo Studios 2014-05-02T02:30:00

I enjoyed that thoroughly. Loved the music loops.

Clobsters by HartLaboratories 2014-05-03T02:53:00

I lol'ed.

TunnelGunner by AngryPriest 2014-04-28T23:49:00

Cool idea. A few noticeable bugs/issues but very fun if you ignore those. Biggest complaint is that it doesn't seem like you can shoot when you're in the air if you started holding right click while underground; makes it feel unresponsive. The tunneling/shooting mechanics feel really good overall though - definitely the best part!

TunnelGunner by AngryPriest 2014-04-28T23:50:00

Oh, also - totally love the 'angry shooting face'.

Cave by fueelin 2014-04-29T03:12:00

Hmm xany, looks like you should be able to advance down the river but maybe there's an issue with the collision. If you end up stuck, you can hit R to re-generate the current level (keeping previous levels and the player's stats). I trust no one will use this to infinitely farm gold, because... why would anyone do that?

Cave by fueelin 2014-04-29T03:15:00

The enemies/health were added in the last ~90 minutes of the compo, so apologies that I didn't get to playtest that part too much. Combat is definitely not the best part of this game :)

Cave by fueelin 2014-04-29T05:17:00

Yes, corridors can spawn blocks (dirt/stone/metal) and caves can spawn money, tools, and enemies.

Cave by fueelin 2014-04-30T00:23:00

There's no scrolling - looks like there must be a collision/level generation issue that lets you get outside of the level. Following the river off the bottom of the level is the correct way to advance to a new level. Sorry for the bug!

Cave by fueelin 2014-05-01T04:31:00

I posted an updated post-compo version that fixes some of the issues people have mentioned, like the instant death/too hard enemies and walking outside the level, if anyone is interested in seeing more of the game.

Cave by fueelin 2014-05-01T17:37:00

You can kill both enemy types without taking damage - you have to be careful and take advantage of your attack having a slightly longer range than the melee skeletons. With the Post-Compo version, I've personally verified that the game is beatable :)

I think I've heard of sfxr before but haven't used it. I planned to record music but ran out of time for it; I'll definitely keep that in mind as a good backup option in the future if I don't have much time for sound.

Cave by fueelin 2014-05-02T01:27:00

kogyblack - it's a resolution issue. I meant to post a version with a lower resolution after the compo ended but was surprised that it didn't seem to affect anyone. But seeing as you ran into this issue, I've added a separate version with a lower resolution that you/others can use. I didn't test it a ton, but the level generator seems okay working with a smaller space.

Cave by fueelin 2014-05-03T02:48:00

Theoretically the more money you have to throw in the pool at the end of the game, the higher the chance of your wish (presumably to get back to the surface) comes true, like throwing pennies in a water fountain. Of course, none of that is actually represented in the game :)

Inspector Badass by Elisée and friends 2014-04-29T07:03:00

Really cool game. Loved the graphics. I didn't get too far though; got stuck in a corner behind a box =/

Dig Master by cirolve 2014-04-29T03:00:00

Really fantastic job. So fun, simple, and intuitive. 213 so far :)

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Screen Mover by Sh1rogane 2014-12-08T10:09:00

Such an awesome game/idea. Haven't seen anything like it before.

It sort of seems opposite the theme to me, but that's my only, minor complaint. Great job!

Alt-Tab by robopossum 2014-12-09T09:36:00

Great take on the 'meta interpretation' of the them. I thought of some similar ideas, but the added element of Alt-Tabbing is awesome.

Doodle vs Homework by Kep 2014-12-26T00:35:00

I really liked the graphics, wish I could rate them :)

Play Area by Halleflux 2014-12-08T10:20:00

Really liked it! Other commenters have covered the details pretty well already :)

At Last, This Will Be Our Final Battle by Laddo D 2014-12-08T10:37:00

Great graphics, except the fireball totally wasn't a fireball :D

CHANGE - A homeless roguelike survival simulator by DanHayesGamer 2014-12-08T11:07:00

I really liked the mood/production values. Good job, very interesting use of the theme.

No Space for Error by Kwask 2014-12-08T10:47:00

I liked it, though it did get frustrating eventually...

Monster Buster by AsixJin 2014-12-09T09:43:00

I got stuck in one of the hallways on the left side of the level. I liked the graphics though.

Last Zombie Defense by Zekronz 2014-12-08T09:58:00

I liked it, particularly the graphics and music. Had some fun, tense moments. One random thing to note - I thought the zombies' shadows were horses that they were riding. I hadn't seen many horse zombies before, lol.

Treasure Protector by resty 2014-12-08T11:18:00

I enjoyed it, though it seems pretty easy to break it. Still, I enjoy having a massive army of slimes that immediately eat all treasure-seekers.

Skull and Crossbones by Glenugie 2014-12-08T10:55:00

It's too easy to run out of cannonballs and it can be hard to collect more because of the (reasonably) loose turning radius. It's a good idea, and I like how it uses the theme (using the map to let you know what's outside your 'one screen').

Beat Jumper by fueelin 2014-12-08T12:00:00

ranseur - The game requires you have a matching MIDI and MP3 file to generate the level. The MIDI parsing (MidiReader.cs) is the most complex part, but it's not so bad using NAudio.

Theoretically it shouldn't be too hard to allow loading custom levels in a post-compo version. It might be annoying with the XNA Content Pipeline though.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about how something works in the code.

Beat Jumper by fueelin 2014-12-08T12:39:00

I recorded a demo video of a decent, complete playthrough on Hard, with a score of 271. There's no sound - hopefully I'll have a demo with sound up tomorrow. If you want to check out some 'advanced techniques', take a look!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WDX-m428BM&feature=youtu.be&hd=1

Beat Jumper by fueelin 2014-12-09T08:32:00

I've uploaded a new demo to YouTube, this time with sound. Link is above.

Beat Jumper by fueelin 2014-12-25T07:51:00

I've added a post-compo version of the game that includes some bug fixes and enhancements, such as slowing the song/platforms down on easy mode.

The biggest change is an overhaul to the 'staying on the beat' system. You're now trying to keep the bar full, instead of empty. This makes it harder to lose immediately and does not allow you to make an impenetrable buffer of extra points, as you could before.

Don't wake the cat! by dannyhodge 2014-12-08T11:46:00

Seems to me like the crash has to do with which spot you place a tower... for me it was placing a lightbulb (first one) in the leftmost slot on the bottom row.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

SUPER SHOT by sprawl 2015-04-28T06:45:00

Really cool game, gets hard pretty quick though!

Hotdog-pocalypse by adamk33n3r 2015-04-26T06:20:00

Dude, awesome. I had more fun playing that than I thought I would, and it made my laugh. Nice work!

Jump Gun by renanlindner 2015-04-27T04:33:00

Really great game. Clever idea and lots of fun. One of my favorites so far!

Global Warning by fueelin 2015-04-26T04:21:00

I'll work on fixing the overlapping cloud bug - hadn't encountered that yet.

I definitely agree that one of the biggest things that's missing is more graphical indicators of exactly what's going on/affecting the flow. Unfortunately I just didn't have the time to implement that.

Global Warning by fueelin 2015-04-26T04:21:00

Davikin92, what happened when you tried to run the game? Did you install the XNA redistributable?

Global Warning by fueelin 2015-04-26T05:14:00

I updated the game with a fix to the overlapping cloud that haveric mentioned, which was a game-breaking bug.

Note that you can also press 'r' to restart the level and 'n' to advance to the next level if you get truly stuck.

Global Warning by fueelin 2015-04-26T06:10:00

I also added a Post Compo version with a new feature added to help visualize the flow of water between tiles, including drains. See the updated description for more info.

The Yellow Jacket Man by Givit Game Studios 2015-04-28T07:08:00

Pretty cool but I got stuck in a wall on the last level :(

Ricochet Romance by thickspit 2015-04-24T02:25:00

Pretty cool but it took too many clicks to download it.

Kid Kannon by ElanGleiber 2015-04-26T06:49:00

I liked this a lot, but I did get to a point I couldn't progress past. I died on the moving platform that you activate with the button on the wall. I respawned and the platform was still on the opposite side and would not come back. I could run over the abyss (!) up to the platform but not past it. Still, great job!

Slap 'em with tha bass by RikkyPikki 2015-04-24T02:54:00

Awesome game. Really love the controls, pulling yourself along with the amp is a lot of fun. Great job!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Bridge Troll by fueelin 2015-08-24T08:28:00

SUMMARY
In Bridge Troll, you guide the eponymous troll through his daily life. Features a dynamic dialogue system that changes over time to fit the player's actions - supports a wide range of troll behaviors! Whether you want to be a brute, a pacifist, or a cunning trickster, the expressive troll will oblige!

CONTROLS
-Up/Down: Change option
-Space: Select option
-R: Restart

NOTES
There isn't too much content at the moment - only a few traveler types and not a huge amount of dialogue. I'll probably work on it a bit more for a separate release though!

LD38 — A Small World

Bubble Boy by rjhelms 2017-05-15T06:12:26Z

Fun game! I enjoyed the jumping/bouncing physics and found myself going into Sonic the Hedgehog mode whenever possible - building maximum momentum and bouncing over all the jumps/threats. Really satisfying! I liked the music too... Nothing crazy, but it served its purpose.

Also, very glad you made the trigger for the end of the level taller than just the flag itself. That would have been super frustrating, given my previously-described bouncy strategy!

Cosmic Chaos Crunch by MrTroy 2017-05-15T06:26:42Z

Really nice mood/graphics/voice acting. Compelling because of those elements, but agree with others' comments about the controls. Too floaty/slippery to be able to move confidently.

C_NFINEMENT R__M by Tselmek 2017-05-08T19:20:23Z

Awesome game! All aspects of the presentation were very polished and intriguing - graphics, sound effects, music, and the inclusion of a hints file. Definitely the kind of game you know you'll want to finish as soon as you start it.

I liked the puzzles a lot too - one of the types of puzzles I'm best at :) Good variety with them too! Really excellent work overall!

Breakout Bunny by Budaniel 2017-05-16T05:35:01Z

Cute game! Wish it was longer (and that the bunny could turn), but I liked it!

Damn it, Don't Die! by RafaelSPBarbosa 2017-05-10T04:09:49Z

Really adorable! I loved the graphics, sound and mood. I do think that most of the game's challenge comes from the lack of ability to rotate or zoom the camera, which doesn't feel great. This, plus the lack of end goal mentioned by others, detracts from the 'fun' score a bit. Still, an awesome job!

Legend of the Mountain by Zathnic 2017-05-16T05:25:00Z

I enjoyed the art (especially the characters slight smile), but didn't end up finding much of anything. Ended up giving up. It was a pleasant experience though! Nice job.

420 Planets by Kakureta 2017-05-07T03:58:52Z

I like the sound effect of beating each level. The menu to go to the next level was a bit finicky with the mouse collision and I accidentally quit the game on my first round of play. Pretty compelling game, interesting message. I'm lit.

Abaddon by Geckoo1337 2017-05-04T19:59:32Z

Awesome game! Loved the graphics/art style and had a lot of fun playing it. Much hopping and holding down of LMB and RMB (it is kind of weird that you can hold both down at once and use both weapons without affecting one another, but not as weird as Duke Nukem spamming kicks with both legs at once, if we're talking about 90s shooters).

Ship in a Bottle by Tero Pulkkinen 2017-05-16T04:51:14Z

That was really pleasant, though maybe not too much game in there. A cool creation, however you would describe it! Nice stuff.

Enlightenment by XenosNS 2017-05-10T04:24:22Z

Really loved this one! Everything worked together cohesively to create a very ominous and creepy mood. The graphics, sound, and zoom-in mechanic work together to achieve this.

If I had to pick some things to critique: I thought the main character sprite looked a bit boxy, particularly the cloak. And it wasn't quite clear enough that the enemies were hurting you from a distance. At first I thought my character was like, auto-attacking them when I saw the purple projectile thingy.

Minor nitpicks aside, great job!

Bad Panda 2 by Pandakipu 2017-05-03T03:46:38Z

Collision issues are especially noticeable when approaching an enemy from above, which is - unfortunately - pretty common in this game. Could use checkpoints (maybe it has them but I didn't get to one) and a couple other nitpicks, but mostly I'm just sad that I couldn't make it to the end. I liked the music and especially the art - the main sprites were great! Charming game but the mechanics could be polished up a lot. Nice work, though!

Dream World by Mordokay 2017-05-04T23:51:59Z

Game looks beautiful but I was confused about a lot of things. It didn't really seem like my turrets were firing, and there was basically no feedback that my bullets were hitting enemies. The bullets go through enemies, there's no sound/particle effects to indicate the hit, and it can take a bunch of shots to kill something.

Starstruck Ducky by HuvaaKoodia 2017-05-07T04:10:26Z

Guess I'm just not a social butterfly... (Hence my game about social anxiety?) But even though I didn't win, I liked it! The graphics and animations were nice. I felt some strong empathy for the lil waterfowl, and felt very sad to see him cry. So. Many. Tears.

But yeah his happiness shakes were cute and I liked the overall vibe. Nice work!

EAT by djfariel 2017-05-03T03:32:16Z

I really like this one! Played it for a while and was having a lot of fun, but eventually stopped because progress seemed impossible past a point due to the rail gun lasers, as others have noted. Better in-game feedback (visual, audio, etc.) for successful "harvesting" of a planet would be my other biggest recommendation. I couldn't exactly tell what would make me grow, what vacuuming did, etc. Nice work overall though!

Hop Up by PietPtr 2017-05-16T05:20:43Z

WOW! Awesome game! Really fun, controls felt good, and the graphics were awesome. Loved the progression through different stages of craziness. I thought the charge-up time on the jump and eventual off-screen character were nice touches that increased the difficulty in interesting ways - I definitely don't consider those downsides!

Other people are right - this is exactly the kind of game that NEEDS music. But everything else about it was so great that I can forgive that omission :D

This Is Not Enough Planet! by madjackmcmad 2017-05-15T06:20:50Z

Really good game! I loved the weapon, the look/feel of the workers, and the interpretation of the theme. I thought the enerjum transfer rate could have been a little bit higher. I also thought it was too easy, but then I died very suddenly from a huge amount of enemies, the likes of which I hadn't seen prior. Felt like a bit of a quick difficulty ramp - I don't think I had even taken a single hit before the insta-kill!

Those couple criticisms aside, really great work!

Puppy's World by Gao Ming 2017-05-15T06:37:25Z

Aww, nice game! The graphics and sound effects were awesome, and it had a nice level of polish. Obviously pretty short/small in scope, but everything that was in it was very well done! I liked the puzzles but just wish there was more!

Human Tragedy by tiffi 2017-05-03T04:19:18Z

I liked it - agree with others about the backtracking. Nice sprite/animations and mood. Definitely tricked me at the end!

MagiSEED by Vivoubos 2017-05-04T23:58:43Z

Great game! I really enjoyed it - the level design and mechanics were awesome. I also really liked the walking animation - it just felt groovy. Music was good, no real complaints! I guess more shrinking sections would have been cool, actually. Good job!

Shapeshifter: The King of A Small World by Rixud 2017-05-04T06:46:46Z

Cool game! Lots of good comments from other people that I agree with. Biggest thing for me was that the camera felt a little too sensitive. I liked it though, and felt compelled to play through most of it :)

Gnome Digger by bobsleigh 2017-05-08T19:49:59Z

It was a little too slow for me. Couldn't stick with it long enough to get too too far. I liked placing the ladders though. Found that very satisfying for whatever reason :) Cool game!

Neuroso by gamechoy 2017-05-04T21:32:56Z

Liked the game a lot! Music was great and the art was really nice too.

New Clear Planet by blackoptics8 2017-05-14T09:06:58Z

I refuse to participate in the memery of the previous comments, all of which I helped make.

I found the art to be very compelling and also liked the music. It was pretty unclear what I actually had to do though. Telling the player what to do so explicitly, in an alert box spawned on their death, is a little heavy handed. I think that's the biggest area for improvement - making the messaging more clear to the player about what they're trying to accomplish. Still, I thought it was a charming game - nice work!

It's a Small World, So Let's Crash It into Things by simonhutchinson 2017-05-04T06:29:01Z

Fun stuff! Felt good to bounce around, gobbling up medium sized planets once I got some momentum rolling. They had seemed so big a minute prior! The dark star totally creeped me out too, good job with the voice. Maybe ended a bit too quickly once I got that momentum going but really good job!

Rocket Roller Space Polo by pkenney 2017-05-08T00:53:58Z

Awesome game! I sucked pretty badly at first and ended up down 0-8. But then it all clicked and I came storming back to win 10-8! What a fun and bouncy game! Great work!

A world too small and no jetpack by mikel 2017-05-16T04:46:47Z

Nice graphics and mood! I agree with others that the jump felt a bit slow/delayed, though. Cool game!

A World of Death! by tompudding 2017-05-10T04:16:19Z

I liked it! The sound effects when the lil guys dive at you is funny, and the game is pretty well balanced. I would suggest maybe a heal partial heal on respawning? It was pretty easy to get into a hole I couldn't recover from. Nice work!

Super Natural Defense by AfroAnt 2017-05-03T02:48:49Z

I enjoyed it! Pretty easy, but satisfying running around in a circle blasting ships. The art was nice too - really liked the final, capital ship!

Tower up by bog13 2017-05-18T22:28:51Z

Definitely agree that the blocks should re-spawn. But that was a fun game! The mechanics worked in a very interesting way!

NES ROM - Arlington Apple in an Interplanetary Pickle by team-disposable 2017-05-04T07:06:25Z

Awesome game! Even ignoring the NES part, a really great job! The mechanic was easy to understand and felt like it was used to its full potential. Great job with the "level" design! The player is able to explore and learn how things work without feeling overly punished, and the color-coding of the "levels" within the world helped a lot. I assume that was intentional, but it was really the only way I was able to find the "entry point" for the section I did last. A really fantastic job!

PS: My only really complaint was that I didn't feel like it used the theme as well as it could have. But that's just because absolutely everything else about it was so outstanding that a little blemish stands out more :)

PlacidTeleCave by madsj 2017-05-16T05:27:30Z

Fun game. Tough though! I liked the music a lot, as well as the overall vibe. Nice job!

Polar Protector by AlexHoratio 2017-05-04T19:22:54Z

Nice game! I particularly liked the sound effects and thought it was an interesting mecahnical/setting idea. Fun to play and definitely tried a few times to see how well I could do!

High score: 147

Badass Hobo by freyby 2017-05-08T18:54:51Z

My favorite part was the music - pretty good pump-up tracks! Short and simple, but nice job! I got absolutely slammed by the boss, oh well :)

Ant Detective by Aumbra 2017-05-04T18:49:08Z

Cool game. All the models were in action poses though, which was funny in the office in particular.

Journeys of the Blowfish by clutterArranger 2017-05-16T05:01:52Z

Agree with the other comments. Gravity was a bit weird, but the target scores were a really nice addition. Those add a lot of potential depth/replay value. I also really liked the art. Nice work!

Tomorrow or When the world is not bigger than a house by Versatile Box 2017-05-05T04:53:25Z

That quit screen scared me! Pretty cool stuff!

Ninja-Vu by doomshmuck 2017-05-05T04:49:10Z

It seemed to bug out on the second level? I lose after a few seconds every time in spite of not being in their site cones...

Sir Shrink-A-Lot by narve 2017-05-16T04:42:55Z

Cool idea. The sounds were a bit... aggressive, but I liked it. Nice work!

The Whole truth about Nature Selection (16+) by pascalman 2017-05-14T08:58:07Z

Cool and creepy vibe! The sound effects were kind of unsettling, but I enjoyed them too..? Unfortunately, I had to play it on a touchpad which made it hard to aim. Definitely has pizzazz.

World Keep-Away by dracominer 2017-05-03T05:20:50Z

Charming game! Enjoyed playing it and was sad when I died. Some of the jumping behavior is a bit... interesting :)

The Z Axis by Meaty McLazerPantz 2017-05-08T00:33:16Z

Cool mechanic! Definitely got tricky at the end. I enjoyed it though, good job!

A Lighthouse Story by mhsco 2017-05-16T04:56:43Z

Super pleasant game! Really nice graphics and soothing music. Liked the progression and the ending, though the choices didn't feel very meaningful to me. Nice work!

Mulletman and the Molemen by Stevemata 2017-05-04T06:36:03Z

Agree with what other have said. Love the art style - great sprites! I also like the sort of "action-platformer/lemmings" gameplay, but I think a little more balancing/playtesting could go a long way. It seemed like the run speed was a little too fast for the screen size/camera behavior, in particular. Stronger incentives for saving the little guys would have upped the mood score for me. And yes, the sounds were too loud :) But this is definitely a cool game!

CryoDream .2 by KeenMustDie 2017-05-18T22:32:28Z

Congratulations on making a thing! Nothing wrong with toys :)

Miniature Adventure by Tony 2017-05-04T19:00:40Z

Loved it! Really fun game. Novel mechanic, and it was explored well across the levels. I will say that the level where you have to fall through a few layers of offset spikes and then through the middle of the bottom to get to the flag was a little frustrating. It's hard to see where you're even trying to go there. I think it was the 3rd to last level? But other than that, it was awesome!

Invasion by mmKALLL 2017-05-05T03:23:52Z

Congratulations on finishing! Good work!

Taco Giant by Kichiguy 2017-05-03T03:00:16Z

Charming game! Had to let a few people go hungry because they were too close with their friends, but I still managed some nice tips. Liked the art a lot.

RGB by madmaw 2017-05-05T04:43:15Z

Nice one, but got stuck eventually. Good job!

Strangeness by philomory 2017-05-08T19:43:09Z

Nice game! Groovin' soundtrack and an overall cool vibe!

Planetone by shillingburg 2017-05-08T19:28:27Z

Really nice! A very pleasant experience. A few things that I found a little frustrating in terms of usability, though:

Click-hold shouldn't toggle a plant in a square. Many times I would try to click-drag to rotate the sequencer and accidentally plant something as well, which then interrupts the rotation because I have to go back and re-toggle it. It was also a bit difficult to visualize the full verticality for a given step in the sequencer. This made me have to rotate more than I felt I should have to, which would then lead to the other issue happening more.

Not the biggest issues, but wanted to point them out as something that could be improved. Great work overall!

Of Course I Remember You! by GaiusJulius 2017-05-18T22:47:42Z

Woah, that was a pretty cool game! I didn't realize you could do stuff with the mouse on my first playthrough which led to me being VERY confused and almost... scared of the weird people? It was nice once I figured it out though - charming game! I feel like the timer could be a little longer, though.

Headspace by fueelin 2017-05-03T08:41:32Z

Thanks for the comment! I'll check your game out tomorrow.

The amount of "actual" meaning goes down as the game progresses... Didn't have time to be as diligent with that for the later parts. The ending is pretty much just thrown together, as I didn't get to add all the segments I originally planned. But everything before the very end at least has an intention/some thought behind the meaning :)

Headspace by fueelin 2017-05-04T19:36:31Z

@gamepopper thanks! Yes, it is about social anxiety. Glad you were able to get that from the game :)

Headspace by fueelin 2017-05-05T18:52:37Z

@takusan awesome write up, thank you so much for your thoughts! I would say that I started aiming more for surrealism but found myself trending back in the direction of symbolism as time went on in the competition. And then, towards the ends, I transitioned into not having much time to think about meaning/intent at all :)

It seems like the elements for which I was able to spend time thinking about meaning/intent were successful, which is great to hear. The things that felt vague to you never had much intent behind them to begin with, so that makes a lot of sense that you would see them that way. In particular, the "angel figure" is my one real regret about this version of this game.

There is obviously a boat-load of potential built in symbolism with an angelic figure, none of which is particularly relevant to my intent with the game as a whole. If I could do that part over, I think I would have just had the bird fly in on its own. But in the originally planned, fully "intentioned" version of the game I came up with, the game wouldn't end after that segment anyway. I just ran into the situation of needing some kind of ending that I could make within the time constraint and wanted it to contain some new element that "felt meaningful". What I came up with doesn't fit very well, but I'm okay with that due to the time constraints :)

I'm going to be working on this game more, and your comments will be very helpful in doing that! It will be nice to have a bit more freedom to explore the direction I want to take it in regarding symbolism and/or surrealism, without the time pressures of the competition. Thanks again for taking the time!

Headspace by fueelin 2017-05-18T21:42:03Z

@philomory thanks for the comments! You're very right about those XKCDs! I can't look at them without thinking of my game :)

Pilgrim by Numb 2017-05-03T04:04:30Z

Liked it a lot, especially the music. Kind of a similar idea/theme interpretation to mine! The "fear" section, with hiding in bushes, was a bit frustrating. Thought I had the timing down well, but the parts where you can't see the eye are a bit unforgiving. One of my favorites so far, though!

Slightly Angry Max by Takusan 2017-05-04T19:47:36Z

Balance issues prevented me from playing this one too much, but I liked a lot of things about it! In particular, the sprites were great! Liked the music too. I just wish the character was a touch faster (and agree with @grena about the enemies "sticking" - I basically had to ignore ranged enemies completely just trying to keep the melee ones off me).

Stable Orbit by mrspeaker 2017-05-04T06:22:52Z

Fun game! I thought the outer boundary was just a hair too punishing. Let me try wacky stuff and see if I can rein it back in and level out, you know? Along those lines, I also enjoyed trying to intentionally lose in funny ways. You can get some really good, spinning bounces if you angle it right! A nice little secondary game within the game!

Hexoworld 9999 by Lugdumdare Team 2017-05-07T04:43:57Z

I basically went infinite. Was able to weigh down my left arrow key and live forever, amassing score. It was pretty great.

What an awesome game! Really inventive mechanics that fit the theme well, and it was well balanced once you got past the initial learning curve. Could very well be my favorite game that I've played so far this LD. Fantastic work!

Its a small world by SuperMsp10 2017-05-04T19:16:35Z

Awesome game! I really enjoyed playing it and getting a feel for the boost mechanic. As others have said, the "boost power" upgrade is dangerous. I liked treating them as downgrades and actively trying to avoid them while building up "boost number" upgrades. At 20 you can basically float around forever, which is awesome. Great work!

PS: One specific criticism is that I had no idea what the hint "the thief is on a normal planet" means, or however it's worded. What's a "non-normal" planet?

Shovel vs deforestation by chispaLBC 2017-05-15T06:31:44Z

That got pretty violent pretty quickly :) I couldn't help but interpret the shovel as also being an axe, because of the chopping motion and amount of blood... Kind of an odd criticism, I know... I liked the look and feel, nice work!

Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-05-18T22:04:52Z

Congratulations on finishing your first jam! You've done a really good job! I'm sure most of my comments will have been covered by others already, but that's just evidence of how effective you've been at "community involvement", if you will. Leaving quality comments on others' work and developing creative promotional campaigns (free cereal?!) have worked really well, and that's really important, even if it isn't something you're rated on.

Loved all the little details, the art, and the hint progression. Agree with those who have said that keeping the number of mini-games/sections low helps communicate the sense of stagnation that the player needs to break out of. Definitely agree with your comment that our games came from a similar origin! You did a great job with it!

Tiniest Assassin 2 by mercerbox 2017-05-04T18:25:03Z

I also got stuck on a few places. Including the guys crotch, which was unintentional. Controls were tricky but it was fun to bounce around!

Amoebros by Spinaljack 2017-05-03T02:36:12Z

Cool entry! Similar thoughts to some others here, but I liked the graphics (including the microscope shader) and sound but thought the learning curve/initial complexity was a bit high. I liked it though!

Pond of Doom by symmsaur 2017-05-04T23:45:53Z

I liked the way the pond-sphere stood out against the sky! That darker-aquamarine border looks really nice. Not too much to do though, but nice work!

Tumblin' down by Shodanon 2017-05-07T03:41:06Z

Hmmm pretty odd/interesting game. I liked the falling earth type element of the game, but thought it was far too easy to deafeat the enemies.

The sound effect of the enemy kill is pretty memorable heh nice one.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deep Focus by StaNov 2021-05-07T21:04:58Z

Great game! I loved the music, and found the whole experience to be very engaging as a result. I almost made it to 5 minutes. Thought I would live forever for a while but then it got really intense!

I loved how the field of view (and the music?) scaled with your level of focus. It made it much harder to stay alive, but I wanted to stay all the way in the zone as long as I could!

Really good job!

Rock Monster by Myko 2021-05-05T04:36:48Z

Great game! The family at the end is super cute, and I really liked all of the animations. Getting big chains of blocks, either from multiple explosions in a row or from a big fall, was suuuuuper satisfying! I think I fell like 200 units in one go at one point! Extremely good job!

Tension by JustinMullin 2021-05-04T06:18:29Z

Daaaaang, that was awesome! Really great mood, especially the ending! A few minor quibbles about the physics, but I liked the mechanic overall and how it was implemented and used. The sound, text, and overall sense of environment had me consistently compelled to keep playing until I beat it.

Bass Drop by TimTipGames 2021-05-10T18:54:20Z

Nice game! I liked the song, and everything felt mostly response/synced up for me. Good work!

Theodores Tumble by headchant 2021-05-07T03:36:15Z

Nice game! I really liked the character sprite, and it was fun to get into a nice rhythm after getting a few upgrades. Eventually it felt like I would never lose, so I stopped playing :)

Really nice work!

TRENCH by dirkinz 2021-05-07T23:57:24Z

Cool game! The mechanics were interesting, though I don't know that I fully understand the spikey guys. Was able to beat it though! Nice work!

Feel free to check out my game, which is also a diving-on-a-hose puzzle game!

Descent by Iak 2021-05-07T23:58:30Z

Interesting game! Took me a sec to realize I should shoot the trees. I liked the art, nice work!

Deep Sea Explorer by interface 2021-05-04T07:19:42Z

I liked it a lot! Really pleasant art, music and sound effects. I was pretty happy with my high score - 170 coins - but it did a good job of motivating me to keep wanting to find more! Really great job overall, agree with other comments that it feels like a complete game!

self reflection by torcado 2021-05-05T05:09:58Z

Such a cool idea! The puzzles combine and layer in a really cool and intuitive way. Impressively creative, and very well executed. Great job!

Far Side of the Mirror by DDRKirbyISQ 2021-05-15T03:42:50Z

That was really nice! I think my favorite part was the back alley birds' music! I also liked how creepy the people got (and, I guess, started). Really nice work!

I GOTTA SH!T by spyispie120 2021-05-06T23:19:59Z

Very silly, and very vivid art! I wish the jumping was a little tighter, and the delay from running into one person wasn't quite as much. I didn't quite beat it because I lost the will to keep retrying and seeing that vivid-ass loss screen :)

Nice work!

Holey Hell by managore 2021-05-05T04:42:16Z

Really great! Loved the rolling/breathing effect of the outside of the hole, being able to see future levels, etc. I'm sure it's all been said a hundred times. Amazing work!

Nuclear blaze by deepnight 2021-05-05T05:01:49Z

Lots of really great aspects to this! I love so many things about the art and animations. The explosion doors are soooo intense every time, even though it's reliable to survive them. The mood was really, really excellent. It felt like it was building to something grim. It's too bad there isn't a "real" ending, because I was really looking forward to the climax. Still, amazing job! It's so impressive how much mood you were able to create without sound!

Slimes and Sandwiches by Nick Rafalski 2021-05-07T23:43:52Z

Maybe you already answered this, but does it go forever? I got to 12 and figured maybe I should stop, but I definitely wasn't bored! The little details really came together well to make it feel satisfying to dodge the slimes. The player's speed, the short aggro/leash range for the slimes, the relatively forgiving collision, the slimes going through walls (I think?) - it made grouping them up and dodging them feel really good. It was like AOE kiting in an MMO game or something :)

Great job!

Depth Charge by Fatsheep 2021-05-05T04:05:57Z

Really cool game! Unfortunately I had control issues like others and couldn't fully interact with the game, but I really like the sound and environment! It was fun to see just how deep I could go, see all the sunken ships, etc. I also feel like you could re-use the physics setup to make a really fun game about rocket jumping off of sea-mines, but maybe that's just me :) Good work!

Irrational Volumes by s1lv3r Dr4g0n Games 2021-05-04T07:37:38Z

I didn't really understand if I won or lost at the end, but I enjoyed playing it! The bullet patterns were challenging but fair, and they made some nice-looking patterns.

Agree with everyone else that the accessibility options are a really nice touch!

Really nice job!

Fly Brie To The Moon by candlesan 2021-05-05T04:21:37Z

That was nice! Lots of good puns, and the intro art was great! Good job!

hello doctor i am in pain by elZach 2021-05-05T17:44:22Z

That was a really cool idea! I liked the music, art, and interface a lot too! I would suggest some tweaks to improve the readability of the numbers. There were times when I couldn't really read a number without finding the perfect angle (either because of overlap with numbers behind it or because the white letters blended in to the light-colored blocks).

Fallumns by Logan 2021-05-05T22:26:48Z

Woooow! Really great! Fantastic idea, love all the different "phases" of the game! Everything was implemented really well, though I did end up getting stuck in the Spelunky part. Was very happy to see there is a "Restart Level" feature because I definitely wanted to see every part of the game.

Excellent job!

Disco Delve by adam-gould 2021-05-06T06:22:02Z

Really nice! I liked the idea, and the art and music were done well. It was very charming! Agree that the biggest issue is the slow reset time after dying. Overall, really good job!

Salvage by fueelin 2021-05-04T07:46:27Z

There are only five levels and the last one is waaaay harder than the rest, so that feedback certainly makes sense! It's certainly possible though!

I had intended to exclude the audio category but had some submission issues and no longer have the option to take it out.

Thanks a bunch for playing!

Salvage by fueelin 2021-05-05T00:02:00Z

@empty-set Thank you so much for the detailed comments! I hadn't realized the indefinite "swim" mechanic, I'll have to think about a way to solve that (or utilize it more intentionally, even!). I definitely had plans for doing more with the fact that treasure has weight too (and can be dropped, like the weights). In a longer version, I think there could be narrative implications of the fact that the treasure weighs less than the weights. Putting the player in a situation where they have to reluctantly leave treasure behind so they can continue, etc. The rest of these comments apply to you too :)

@felixmreeve I had thought about including an explicit buoyancy value in the UI but ultimately decided against it. I think that was the wrong choice for the game this ended up being. Originally I had ambitions of psychedelic horror, creepy-game stuff, but obviously that would require sound and a lot more. The puzzle game it ended up being definitely would benefit from more explicit feedback!

**LAST LEVEL SPOILER/SOLUTION WARNING FROM HERE DOWN**

The "intended" solution for the last level is to get the 4 treasures in the top left, drop weights to equilibrium to get the top right one, get the bottom right ones with the weight from that treasure, and drop weight to go back up. I think it requires you to have left weights strategically positioned to grab after that ascent, so you can go back to the start.

That's a REALLY steep jump in difficulty, depending on a couple new tricks that the player probably hasn't figured out yet. At the end of the compo, I was trying to prove that the mechanics allowed for a complex enough puzzle to justify expanding on the game afterwards, but I think I went a liiiiittle too far! :)

I definitely should have included a level that teaches you that you can reach equilibrium, at least. But I had already just taught you about ladders in the 2nd to last level, so I didn't want two "tutorial levels" in a row. Consequence of running out of time and not having enough puzzles!

Once again, thank you so much everyone for your thoughtful comments!

Salvage by fueelin 2021-05-05T17:39:20Z

@hruhf Yes, you beat it! I realized after I finished that there was no way at all to tell you had beaten it, my bad!

Masseuse you Loose by ColeSlaughter 2021-05-06T23:07:12Z

Wow, very enjoyable! Extremely silly, and a very strong vibe! I feel like I did way better than I scored but I guess I was over aggressive? Oh well, still had a really great time playing! nice work!

Mole Hole by ArBe 2021-05-06T05:38:51Z

I really enjoyed the premise, art/animations, and the submission page! It's too bad it was so easy to beat in a relatively cheesy way - I wanted the experience to last a little longer! But that just goes to show how nice the aesthetic elements/personality of the game was! Good work!

Save Her by CrumblyBread 2021-05-07T21:09:42Z

Funny idea! I liked the intro, and really enjoyed the different methods for adjusting the parameters (e.g. the hamster wheel). I managed to keep everything together for a while before eventually getting too much energy while trying to keep the weight up, but I liked playing it!

Good job!

The Hunt for the Plastic Bag by Bewelge 2021-05-04T06:23:31Z

Cool graphics and idea, but the low starting fuel makes it hard to keep going. The spotlight mechanic is cool, but it doesn't combine well with the strict amount of fuel available.

I think a few small tweaks could go a long way, and then you could look into other things to add or enhance to build on what you have here!

Last Breath by Yorsh 2021-05-06T06:46:48Z

Super creepy game, wow! Great job with the mood! I made sure the first time I got eaten by a shark was the last time, cuz that was intense! The ending was great, was there dialogue there? The sound was a bit low for me.

Really great job, I love creepy games like this!

Cut Deeper by Filipe Leal 2021-05-05T04:24:16Z

Lol, this was pretty hardcore :) I liked the art and the idea! Would have been nice to have some more gameplay, but you certainly did a good job of delivering everything that's there! Good work!

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-05-07T21:29:29Z

Great idea, audio, and mood, but too fast-paced and hectic to get very far. Would recommend a little tuning, but the idea is really good and it has a lot of nice aspects. Good job!

Scroll of Sacre Bleu & the Fires of Fiji by staircase27a 2021-05-09T06:41:19Z

Nice game! There were a few moments where I had to make a tough call about which direction to go, whether I had time to get a power-up, etc. Ultimately I got to a level that seemed impossible to beat, which seemed too bad. Overall I liked it and thought it had a nice amount of depth. Good job!

Deep Rescue by johnnyjw 2021-05-04T07:32:51Z

Cool idea! I certainly wanted to help those cute sea turtles!

I think the claw animation/picking up trash is the biggest area for improvement. At first, I thought the claw had a weird collision shape or something, but I then realized I actually WAS picking things up, but the fade-out delay made me think I wasn't. I imagine it would be pretty quick to address this, and it would make a big difference!

There seems to be a bug with restarting the game after losing once, FYI.

Good job overall, thanks for sharing!

Depth Seilor by deepinthewoods 2021-05-09T06:44:54Z

Cool game! It was fun bouncing and flying around, and I liked that many types of movement required using the gun to achieve. The music was nice too! Good job!

MINOTOAD by MarkoPoloDev 2021-05-10T18:47:36Z

Nice game! Also ran into the soft lock issue, but I liked the art and sound and overall style of everything! Nice work!

NO DIGGING by Kovakomes 2021-05-06T23:15:39Z

Very silly! Almost would have preferred a game that dig have digging, but there was a certain kind of... comfort in definitely not digging at all, no way, nope.

Nice job!

Hell Diver by MacDoom 2021-05-06T23:26:06Z

Really cool idea! I didn't have too much success with any of the control means. The movement felt a little sensitive, and the wall bounce seemed guaranteed to kill you regardless of your health. I really liked the graphics, concept, and theme interpretation though! Great job!

(P.S. Is he saying "dad" when he gets hit? Lol!)

UnderwOtter by pixelbug 2021-05-06T06:59:09Z

Nice game! I liked the art a lot! I think it would be nice to tweak the oxygen meter a little higher from the start. It started to feel like I wouldn't be able to afford enough upgrades to really make more progress. I really liked it, though! Nice work!

Wisdom of the Ancients by Frank Gevaerts 2021-05-06T05:16:57Z

I had a similar experience with @bentglasstube, but with coffee-flavored brandy (don't judge!). I got one of the best laughs I've had from any game in this LD when I realized I had achieved the ultimate (anti-)wisdom. I agree that the subversion of expected complexity makes it a really enjoyable moment! I'd say it was a case where the time constraints produced a cool effect :)

Nice job, I really enjoyed it!

Vile Things by JakobTheQuizGuy 2021-05-06T06:53:27Z

Fun fights against a nasty nemesis! The art was great, and the I liked the music a lot too. Certainly created an intense, creepy mood. I definitely didn't want those THINGS to win! Awesome job!

Rabbits Running by Taximan981 2021-05-05T21:39:33Z

I really liked it! It was fun to play once I got a feel for the best way to do it. The ending was surprising but very enjoyable! Great job!

Clear Your Head by Styps 2021-05-06T05:08:10Z

I would second the suggestion to add coyote time and other, similar quality-of-life features to the jumping. I'm definitely a snob about 2D platformer jumping though :id:

That said, I liked it overall! The sound and graphics were nice, and it felt complete. I think it was a good move to define a specific scope (2 minutes, 10 collectables) and make sure everything felt good within that. Nice work!

Capsule Fall by Jeremia 2021-05-05T17:52:06Z

I really liked this one! The ASCII art was great, and it was really fun trying to figure out the best path to take next as quickly as possible. I forget what my score was for classic mode, but I think I had a pretty good run! Nice job!

Deep Forest by Japayne 2021-05-06T06:31:27Z

Nice game! I kept at it for a while, because the art and mood were really pleasant. Sounds like I didn't quite make it to the end before giving up, but I enjoyed my time with it! Good work!

Jamie's Jam by soundgnome 2021-05-04T07:27:57Z

That was really nice! After the first few levels I was convinced you wouldn't be able to make a challenging puzzle with just allowing rotation of anchored pieces, but the last level proved me wrong!

The art and sound were crisp and effective, and I had a good laugh at the ending. Really good job!

Dating and Boxing by Phoenix Fireflower 2021-05-05T21:51:52Z

Great idea, and well executed! The first fight was super easy but by the end it was definitely challenging! Wendy is a cool character for sure! Did notice a couple positioning-based glitches in the boxing, but they didn't really affect anything. Great job!

Dig 'Till You Drown! by Yeomsley 2021-05-04T07:06:51Z

Agree with the other posters. Cool idea, but the controls were pretty tricky to work with. Nice job overall!

I am a DRILL and I'm DRILLING a hole by kadams 2021-05-04T07:42:44Z

There's lots of cool stuff in this game! I really liked the art, particularly the drilling animations. I eventually got cornered in the second level and died super hard.

I had some trouble finding the exit. Maybe some way of hinting at the direction to look for it would help?

Great job!

Blackout by Frasse 2021-05-08T00:17:18Z

That was great! All aspects were super well done! I loved the twist - you really sold it by dialing up the creepiness and intensity right before pulling the rug out from under us! Excellent work!

Mind Depths LD 48 by LittleGamer 2021-05-05T07:29:39Z

Great job on the mood! Super creepy game! The music and graphics were very effective - I love minimalist creepy games! It was very unsettling, but in a good way.

I did get stuck on a hand as it appeared on my first playthrough, but it was fine the second time I tried. A few collision tweaks would help, but I thought it was a really nice effort! Very impressive for your first LD!

The little abnormality by airwaffle 2021-05-07T05:34:24Z

What a weird game (in a good way)! I didn't get too far, as some of the jumps were tough, but the art and sound effects were cool and unique. Nice work!

Cave of Glory by marksht 2021-05-10T19:01:36Z

Cool game! I really liked the sprites and animations! I'd recommend adding a better vertical attack - I felt pretty powerless to things above or below me, without taking some evasive maneuvers to get next to them instead. Good job!

Puzzle Tower by Phanty 2021-05-06T06:40:44Z

I also got stuck after advancing a box and dying. I was really enjoying it though! There are some clever, satisfying puzzles, and it was fun how creative you could be with the boxes. Lots of little tricks to explore! Great job!

Don't Fall asleep by MustachedNinja 2021-05-05T03:57:18Z

I liked the sprites and the music, but couldn't figure out how to make much progress. After the first door, I didn't find much I could interact with. I'd definitely recommend making the controls operate relative to the camera. My hand was consistently confused when trying to move, which eventually made me give up. There were some really cool aspects though, good work!

Ludum Deep thought by Glimmer 2021-05-06T07:07:44Z

Interesting concept! I seemed to get stuck at a point, but it started out neat! Cool idea and nice work!

The Clinic by Cyborg Studio 2021-05-06T05:43:48Z

Cool idea! One suggestion: you might want to add a little buffer to the left and right of the triggers, before the mouse is "out of frame" so to speak. It felt like I had an inherent desire to not click outside the window, from a history of playing browser games and having that be an issue. Perhaps my own "trauma" from past web gaming experiences showing up :P

Nice work!

Deep Memory by Gastoon 2021-05-06T05:53:34Z

The art and writing were nice, but I also didn't make a ton of progress. I read everything I could but wasn't able to meaningfully interact with anything. But the mood was great, nice job!

Eros and Psyche by Noam Zeise 2021-05-05T07:42:20Z

Really nice! I thought all the different sections were well implemented (though I agree the 3rd one should have had opposite controls). I liked the art a lot in particular, and it was a good interpretation of the theme. Good job!

Goblin Philosopher by Jibberwocky 2021-05-06T05:49:00Z

I liked it a lot! The sound and art are very charming, and it's a novel idea/theme interpretation. It did feel like progress was slow, and I also got intimidated when I saw how many friends there were to talk to. I stopped playing at that point, but I still really liked the experience and the game. Good work!

The Fall of Squidy by ealhche 2021-05-06T05:32:18Z

That was great! I really loved the art for the main character, it's so cute! The music was really nice too. Those elements made it really easy to keep trying until I got to the end. It took me a couple dozen tries, but I was enjoying it the whole time so I didn't mind. Great job!

The Ocean's Treasure by Anirudh Munipalli 2021-05-04T05:50:28Z

I liked the graphic effects when descending a lot! Tension was nicely building as the background got darker, and it was a good touch when the font color inverted and eventually turned red.

I did notice one bug, where the item pickup text still displays after your inventory is full. Not a big deal but just FYI.

Good job!

Pirifurm DCleaner by emeraldboy44 2021-05-04T06:02:30Z

Nice game! A few physics bugs and things that led to some cheap-feeling deaths, but I really liked it overall! Got up to 15,000 high score after a few attempts!

Awfully Good Pizza by beahives 2021-05-06T23:44:13Z

Nice game! Lots of fun, cute characters! I made some pretty nasty pies. Good work!

apocalypse of darkness wonderful nightmare by muzakefron 2021-05-04T06:49:16Z

Wow, this was really great! I loved pretty much everything about it. The music, art style, the "parasite gun", the boss level... It had a really consistent aesthetic that appealed to me a lot. Everything twitchy and lo-fi and break-beat-y!

I thought the final vertical shaft on the first level felt a bit unfair, but maybe that's because I forgot about the dodge ability (which did look really cool!). Still, I was determined to beat it because everything else about it felt so good! I loved the way the death counter progressed, with the icon getting smaller to fit more in. Hard to say why, but I thought it was neat and it made me want to beat it with as few deaths as possible!

There were lots of nice little touches. Lots of cool animations: the death animation on the final boss, the big explosions in level 1, the "parasite gun". I do think that explosion animation's duration could be shortened a little for gameplay reasons, though.

Not sure what my final death count was, but I did beat both levels. Only "major" criticism is that I didn't really get much of the theme out of it with only the two levels. But I don't really care, it's still my favorite game I've played so far! Awesome work!

Tickle Monster Caves by Xahrepap 2021-05-05T04:12:34Z

Agree with other commenters that the inputs were being inconsistently registered. That got me in a couple tight spots against the chili peppers! I liked the fog of war effect. Nice work!

Am I only dreaming? by DerGamer 2021-05-06T07:17:18Z

Nice game! Really good job for your first entry! I think others have already commented on everything I noticed, but wanted to say that I enjoyed playing!

Quiet In The Deep by rjmarzec 2021-05-05T03:52:45Z

I really liked the art! The fish had a lot of personality. I liked clicking to swim, it felt fun (though at times was hard to control). Eventually I gave up once it started to feel like there was no way to advance without intentionally drawing the fishes' attention.

Overally, a really good job!

Jelly Pacifist by Dan McAlister 2021-05-09T18:16:32Z

I really liked the idea and animations! The music was very pleasant too. I think it might be nice to make the jellyfish just a little bit faster. It felt reaaaally tight trying to dodge some of the fishy friends. Nice work overall!

Deep Undercover by CrocodileTuesday 2021-05-05T21:34:15Z

I really enjoyed it for something that I couldn't make much progress in :) The eel himself is very delightful, but I was also unable to press the buttons. Hard to review all aspects as a result, but the eel made my day better on his own. Nice work!

Be Queen by Cody Miner 2021-05-05T21:56:32Z

I liked the idea and the art a lot! Didn't end up beating it, sort of thought I was missing something with how to play. I wasn't able to keep the disguise going for very long. Seems like other folks have had better luck, so the issue might be with me :)

Lots of stuff to like about this though, good job!

Jung Guns by vickles 2021-05-05T04:17:46Z

LOVE the art and theme interpretation! Really great job there! I do think it was a bit too hard. It would help if the ships were a bit smaller and faster. I wanted to see all the rest of the art and text, but it seemed like it would take too many tries to get farther. Still, really liked it overall!

Dash To The Core by GreyBeetle 2021-05-06T05:24:14Z

Fun game! I think I got a "perfect" run but, similar to some other comments, I couldn't actually see my high score cuz the screen disappeared instantly from me holding the thrust buttons. I think it was maybe 373?

I'd say it was a little more RNG-dependent than I'd like. Some runs felt cursed to fail, with really sharp turns required. Others I barely ever had to move. Figuring out a way to get rid of the extreme hard and easy ends of the random difficulty spectrum would be a solid improvement.

Nice job!

Robo-Driller by Famicon80 2021-05-05T21:28:19Z

Cool game, pretty tough! I don't fully understand why there are donuts underground, but I DEFINITELY understand that I should be scared of them! :D I liked the art a lot, and the sounds were simple but effective. Everything felt nice and polished, though maybe some minor difficulty tweaks could improve it.

Really good job!

The Deepest Booze by mechamew 2021-05-10T18:12:56Z

Very nice game! I enjoyed the art, music, and writing a lot - it was a really pleasant experience! I assumed it would be longer based on all the save/load/etc. controls, but I didn't mind the length in the end. Really nice work!

Penguin Trouble by Elllelel 2021-05-05T21:21:15Z

I liked it! Took me two tries, but I rescued him! I liked the art best. Good job!

The Dark and The Beast by Sam Wallach 2021-05-09T06:34:19Z

Cool game! It was definitely spooky! I feel like I outran the beast for a solid amount of time - is there a good ending? Or can you not truly escape? Either way, nice work!

Through the Anthill by nessie 2021-05-07T05:30:08Z

Cool game! I had a bit of trouble finding the drop-off points, but I really liked the music and art. Nice job, especially for your first time!

Sub_Mission by Chyrion 2021-05-05T21:13:22Z

I liked the art a lot! It did feel a little slow to progress/find new stuff after a point. But lots of nice little touches, good job!

Stare by Rewdas 2021-05-10T18:57:52Z

Agree with others that more feedback that the weapon was working would have been helpful. I wasn't sure for a bit if it was actually attacking, until I noticed the ammo going down as I clicked. I liked the sound a lot but wasn't too sure what to do to progress.

Recursive Repairman by Bipmo Bopmo 2021-05-06T06:07:22Z

This is a really great game! Maybe I'm biased, being a huge fan of Baba, but I really enjoyed this. The way you made a mechanic out of recursion was very creative and works almost surprisingly well! I think there's a lot of potential to expand beyond this.

One very specific criticism: it bothered me a lot that I couldn't turn to face an object I was adjacent to without "leaving and coming back." I'd definitely recommend changing that!

I also think the difficulty jump for the last level is pretty extreme. I had kind of a similar thing with my game this LD, where the last level is way harder and requires a level of ingrained understanding of new mechanics that the player can't be expected to have. Just a natural consequence of the tight time limit, but worth pointing out! Feel free to check out my game, it's also puzzle-y!

Really great job! Definitely one of my favorites I've played so far!

Help! I'm trapped in an arcade factory! by negabyte 2021-05-04T06:59:44Z

Super cool idea! I thought it was executed well too, for the most part. I think a few quality of life improvements would go a long way. There probably doesn't need to be separate buttons for "use" and "take" in the point-and-click part. You should definitely allow WASD for movement in the 3D view. As it is now, you have to switch y our hand from the mouse to keyboard when going between the modes, but you wouldn't if you could use WASD too.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Escape The Unstoppable Gooey Blob by OddballDave 2022-04-13T07:37:31Z

Fun game! Good job with the voiceovers, and I liked the art a lot. Once you start to fall behind, it gets unmanageable pretty quickly. I suppose that's the point/is in keeping with the theme, but it'd be nice to feel like you have a bit more chance to reverse the tide - at least for a bit. Nice work!

Cramzon Ad Creator by recursor 2022-04-12T07:53:12Z

Neat idea, but it felt hard to find alliterative options (particularly in the 4 word ads where you pick 3 words and the product is in the second position). Nice work!

Possum Blitz by LeviDSmith 2022-04-13T05:31:36Z

Nice game! I liked the art, and the music was simple but effective. Did the best I could for the poor lil guy!

Live For Later Or Live For Now by khaotom 2022-04-12T07:24:35Z

Really loved the music! It creates a great atmosphere.

Side note: Congrats on getting a setup for recording your hardware that feels smooth and doesn't disrupt your process! I was hoping to take the same step this LD but didn't have enough time to set some things up pre-compo. Looking forward to finishing it out and taking this same step you did. It really paid off in the resulting music!

Alfresco d̶i̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ Dying by ciderpunk 2022-04-17T08:25:32Z

Nice game! I like the idea and the art especially. It all combined to be a fun and funny experience. Nice work!

Sunset by PTSnoop 2022-04-17T08:31:49Z

Really cool game! Having the "board" disappear like that was a really creative idea! The visuals were nice and relaxing. Nice job!

Bomb Fuse Madness by svntax 2022-04-12T07:07:02Z

Great game! I was pretty confused at first, from just reading the description and instructions, but once I started playing it all started making sense quickly. I didn't realize the shredder turned on and off at first, which had me pretty confused - might want to do something to make that more clear.

Two things that should be easy to address but have a big positive effect: -The collision for the shredder extends notably far below the sprite, which makes an already tight area really hard and unintuitive to navigate. -The length of time the shredder is off for felt too long to me. The game, in keeping with the theme, does a good job of building tension and making the player panic (in a good way) as they get closer to an inevitable end, but I think this was one area where it's tuned a little too harshly.

I really enjoyed it on a second and third playing, once I knew all the mechanics and quirks. It was fun and felt intense to play towards the end! Great job!

Handsel and Gretel and Snakes by Jeremy Selwyn 2022-04-12T06:56:33Z

Cool game! The graphics, sound, and fluidity of the movement came together nicely to create a distinct and noticeable mood. Not exactly sure how I'd describe that mood in words, but I enjoyed it. Really pleasant to play!

Rocket Rally by fueelin 2022-04-13T04:37:11Z

@caeonosphere Yep! That's the end, didn't have time to add any sort of real ending.

Other folks - you can do different kinds of jumps by aiming the rockets. The original plan was to have enemies that you could actually shoot (either to kill them or to bounce them around to set up jumps). Also was thinking of situations where rocket jumping off the ceiling to fall faster would be required. Just didn't get a chance to add anything that made good use of aiming them. For this version of the game, you can just hold the down arrow the whole time :)

🙃 Misaligned AI: The Game 🙂 by OrciFried 2022-04-13T07:27:33Z

Really cool idea! I got the AI in a few loops that it struggled to get out of, and it seemed pretty angry. The AI, uh, really wanted to "make a girl piss her pants", not sure where it got that idea from! It seems like the game doesn't properly end when you get to negative HP. Some elements of the UI turned off, but it seemed like I could still technically enter text. Minor quibble, though.

Overall, nice job executing an interesting idea!

Fruitloose by caeonosphere 2022-04-12T08:16:17Z

Great game! Really liked the mechanics, which were simple but still allowed a lot of room for problem solving and thinking about the best solution. Maybe I missed something, but I couldn't figure out how to move the camera, which made it hard to make some moves or tell what was possible. Really nice job, though!

FUSE by Ossi 2022-04-12T07:56:48Z

Fun game! I liked the music and look a lot. It was simple but executed really well, and I definitely felt compelled to try to keep those flames burning! Ended up saving two of the fuses. Nice work!

High Class Steaks by TopperVideoGames 2022-04-17T08:28:50Z

Cool game! It was easy to get through, but I enjoyed the art and music. Nice work!

P.S. Was the music inspired by the game Cruelty Squad at all? Sounded very reminiscent to that at times.

Life of a Floof by MachWerx 2022-04-14T06:57:15Z

Nice game! Did the best I could for the lil guy!

Saviour by Robonaut121 2022-04-17T16:10:52Z

Nice idea! I really liked the art, especially the main character. The last jump was a bit tricky, but I was able to save someone. It seemed pretty hard to save more than one, unless I missed something. Could use a few tweaks, but overall I liked it.

Death Is Real. by waffleworksgames 2022-04-13T06:58:12Z

Awesome game! Like a less hectic (but still kinda hectic) Lemmings! The art was nice and crisp and the music/sound was simple and effective. The difficulty curve of puzzles over time was nice. One of my favorite games so far this LD!

Escaper by Krg 2022-04-13T07:08:49Z

Nice job, this game has some cool ideas! I couldn't get past the 3rd (I think) level - seemed like the jump was largely impossible.

The Itsy Bitsy Jumper by sakura_magika 2022-04-12T07:11:45Z

Really nice game! It was fun, creative, and, in the end, pretty silly. You did a good job integrating the gameplay and music, and the game has a lot of personality in its small package. Nice work!

Hapman 🍩 The Inevitable by hilkojj 2022-04-17T08:39:26Z

Super cool game! The concept and graphics were really, really good. I especially liked the sprinkle launchers, for whatever reason. My only complaint is that the controls didn't always work as I expected/work that smoothly, especially when the camera was actively changing perspective. Really nice work overall, though!

AGAIN! AGAIN! by CrocodileTuesday 2022-04-12T08:07:09Z

Wow, super cool! I think there were a couple times I didn't really hit it but got an extra lap anyway/got more laps than I expected, and I wish there was sound... But other than that, I liked it a lot! It was fun and interpreted the theme well. It started to really build in intensity as it went faster and faster, and I was trying my best to keep hitting the target, even once it got pretty impossible. Really nice work!

Try to Die of Old Age by Dennis Magnusson 2022-04-12T07:42:02Z

That was really fun! Some really funny parts too! There were a lot of nice touches that made it feel good to play (the way you could advance through dialogue faster, the lights highlighting where the bullets are spawning from, etc.). One suggestion is that I think the player should have faster stopping speed. This was especially noticeable when trying to drop to a lower floor. It wasn't 'hard', but it could have been easier to make things feel smoother, if that makes sense! Nice job!

Stupidly Inevitable by 3ggplant 2022-04-13T07:14:08Z

Really novel and interesting idea! I pretty quickly got into a kind of stuck state, where the enemy had pushed the hero into the left corner and was just sort of pushing into his face forever, until the hero eventually killed her. I also tried to use the "Continue" option after dying and the game appeared to freeze. Maybe it was just a long load time and I was impatient, but seems like that should be avoidable.

That said, I still thought it was a cool game! Nice work!

When Penguins Fly by SolanumTeam 2022-04-17T16:13:49Z

Cute game! I didn't get anywhere near other folks' high scores, those are pretty impressive! But I think I gave the lil penguin a nice glide anyway :) Good work!

SILAS by googlypoo 2022-04-14T06:31:25Z

Congrats on finishing your first LD game! I didn't get too far with it, but I liked idea! The art was nice too - I really enjoyed how expressive Silas' face could be! Nice work!

Tomorrow's Problem by Dorren 2022-04-13T07:31:20Z

Cool game! Congrats on finishing your first LD! I liked the art, the simplicity, and the tutorial/menu hybrid. I think a few tweaks would go a long way to making it feel even better to play. The biggest one would be not allowing the player to drag trash up through the bottom/sides of the bin, which is too disruptive of the contents and is easily to do accidentally.

It might also be fun to keep the momentum the trash has when the player releases it. Then, you could fling it into the can and try to go fast... But maybe that ends up being a different game.

Either way, nice work!

Fart Competitions by PureImprov 2022-04-18T08:46:58Z

One of the fart'in'er games I've ever played. Confusing but pleasing, nice work!

Candler by SunJet 2022-04-12T08:00:59Z

Nice job, especially for your first LD game! Welcome! I certainly cared about my new friend Candler's safety and wanted to do my best to keep him from getting wet! Poor lil guy! Ended up getting a 173 score!

Car of Theseus by ReeceyBoi 2022-04-13T07:04:30Z

I didn't have too much luck finding sand worms or flowers, so I couldn't get very far. I liked the graphics a lot - cool color palette! Also would like the ability to skip/speed up the intro text. Nice job overall!

Death, Taxes, and Bananas by markymark 2022-04-12T07:32:35Z

I liked the graphics a lot, and it's a pretty funny/clever idea. Unfortunately I also had multi-monitor issues that made it hard to get very far (I did beat the first tax collector, though!). Also agree with other commenters that an indicator that you're actually damaging the enemies would be a big addition.
