Really cool mechanic. It was neat having to explore the world literally from every angle. It made me think of what Mario Galaxy might have been like on the NES

Awesome game! Even ignoring the NES part, a really great job! The mechanic was easy to understand and felt like it was used to its full potential. Great job with the "level" design! The player is able to explore and learn how things work without feeling overly punished, and the color-coding of the "levels" within the world helped a lot. I assume that was intentional, but it was really the only way I was able to find the "entry point" for the section I did last. A really fantastic job!

PS: My only really complaint was that I didn't feel like it used the theme as well as it could have. But that's just because absolutely everything else about it was so outstanding that a little blemish stands out more :)

a NES game! I'm impressed (and a bit jealous..) the game is also very complex and original in the gameplay, graphics are good, maybe needed more time to polish but it's fine. amazing work!

Fantastic! This game was quite fun, and I would have given it high marks even if it wasn't a NES ROM, but that is extra cool =). I managed to get to the end (without save-scumming ;), which was quite satisfying.

Wow, I'm amazed you made a ROM. No idea what the tools are like these days, but doesn't this mean that you bad to make everything in assembly? Nuts. The game itself I thought was very good for an NES game, but for a modern game it wasn't as impressive. Still solid, for sure. There were a couple times where I got completely stuck in an area and didn't feel like I could get out, and the screen transitions felt jarring and made it difficult to platform. I would have also rather had the controls be relative to my character's facing rather than absolute on the screen - that really made it difficult to do tricky stuff. The level design is really smart and cool.

Neat little platformer and the level of challenge was just right (not too hard, not too easy). One downside was it seemed that once you entered the central part of the level, there was no way to get back out to get the blue crystal? I managed to complete the game on my second try though :)

@jerm - Sounds like the level could have done with some more signposting, as you can definitely get out from everywhere - to get out of the central part, you can go back out of the entrance. you can either flip gravity to the left (there's a wall on the left next to the exit/entrance to the central part) or flip gravity upside down (which you can do on the platforms below). Thanks again for playing and all the detailed feedback!

@eli-delventhal it would be great to hear which areas you got stuck in. I actually didn't even consider making the controls relative as I've always wanted to make a game with the jarringness of flipping the controls - I think there was a bad potion that you could eat in zombies ate my neighbours that reversed your controls, and i always remember being interested in how my brain would get used to left being right and up being down just as it would wear off. Ah! I got it to work this time! I feel like so much less of an idiot! This was good! I had some issues with the character controller, it felt stiff and unresponsive. I did however enjoy what I saw, I'm always a big fan of NES Style games.

To me this is like a mix of Ufouria, VVVVVV and Seiklus. The tension between being able to roam the map vs. the constraint of the gravity arrows is what I enjoyed most. The way the paths to the crystals are intertwined through one area is impressive. I would be into playing an extended version!
