LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

Crustacean Cannon by Hellfang 2010-08-28T05:15:00

This was quite cool. The graphics were really polished and the animations were very detailed. The difficulty was a little on the easy side (either that, or I was just lucky. The later levels certainly looked difficult). The controls were a bit unintuitive but I got used to them quickly enough. The ending sequence was... unexpected :).

dudidadala by sirGustav 2010-08-27T17:34:00

The game was too fast and the turrets are too overpowered and hard to kill. Nice graphical style though.

PIXELSPACE by davecheesefish 2010-08-25T00:55:00

This was quite a good entry. The game was fun for a few minutes but there wasn't much to do. The graphics were ok, if there had been a bit more variety I would have given you a 3 (perhaps some more sprites, colours, etc. I suggest adding a crosshair mouse cursor).

Also the instructions screen incorrectly said to press A to move backwards instead of S.

Isolation by MoltenMustafa 2010-08-24T21:37:00

Wow, this was awesome! Huge game world with lots to do. Lots of variety to the graphics (even if they weren't very detailed). The jumping was a bit annoying at times, but otherwise the controls were good.

Would have been even better with some music and better sound effects and also a cutscene or something explaining the goal of the game, but I guess you would have a hard time fitting all that into 48 hours.

Enemy Snooker by skintkingle 2010-08-28T18:34:00

I could never get enough cash to buy anything (HP cost $5 for 5 HP but you used a lot more than 5 HP to earn $5), so I didn't manage to get very far. The UI system was good but had some bugs (when you view the info and goals on the main menu, they would stay there when you started a game, also your player would still fire when you clicked on the shop window).

Deflector Beam by MrPhil 2010-08-24T21:47:00

There wasn't much to this one, so not much to say about it. Very easy to beat and not much variety.

The installer didn't both me, but perhaps you should call your game something other than 'LD18'. :)

Great food photos though. :)

Infiltrator by ChainedLupine 2010-08-27T17:06:00

Nice game with a very polished feel to it (until you got to the second part of the base :)). Found it a bit difficult at first and didn't realise those three-dots things were mines (made it a bit easier once I found out, perhaps they should have been in the tutorial level :)). It was a bit annoying to have to restart the whole level when you died, perhaps you should put checkpoints in to save your game.

I would definitely play this again if you fleshed it out a bit more.

Also, the how-to-play level was as awesome idea.

Recycling Defense by jakkarth 2010-08-24T21:23:00

Good polished entry. But, the game was very easy to beat and was too short. Also it didn't make much use of the different weapon types in a compelling way (it was possible to beat the game only with fireball towers).

Chassis Commander by zorbathut 2010-09-05T04:09:00

It was cool trying out all the different weapon types, especially when you end up with rapid-fire rockets and just destroy everything. The enemy AI could probably use some work, most of the time they were harmless and sometimes you would get completely swamped and couldn't do anything about it. I never felt like I could choose which weapon types to use and just kept sucking up enemies until I had a good gun type (not necessarily a bad thing).

Fail-Deadly by invicticide 2010-08-27T19:22:00

One minor thing, when you win the message at the top has a typo: 'Mututal Destruction: Achieved'. Apart from that, this game is awesome.

It was probably too easy (maybe you could have difficulty levels with different time limits). It might also be better if you had more control over things, like maybe you could sometimes choose which building to build or choose between different building types which would alter the probabilities of getting say landmines and turrets vs. barracks and factories.

Space Recycler by Darkhogg 2010-08-24T20:45:00

The controls felt very sluggish which made it less fun. The graphics were simple but were consistent and had a polished feel which was good. With a bit more polish and variety in the gameplay this could have been a solid entry.

Some suggestions for improvements:
Better controls: angular motion should be faster and with more friction. Straight motion should be faster and with less friction. This would make it easier to aim and dodge.

It was too hard to kill enemies. The regular bullets were too slow and not very powerful. Also, if you shot at an enemy with some debris but missed, you would lose all the debris. There should be less penalty for missing when shooting debris (perhaps by not shooting all of it at once, or having a wider spread angle)

Faster game pace in general. If everything moved a bit faster and the controls were more fluid this could have been a fun game.

Smores Attack by devinmoore 2010-08-27T17:59:00

I think this would work a lot better if there was only one throw key that threw in the direction you last moved. You would probably have to draw the player sprite flipped when you move to the right so it's obvious which way you would throw. I agree with GreaseMonkey that this takes way too long to load and restart for such a simple game.

Alien Parasite by itzmattu 2010-08-25T04:26:00

I don't have anything to add to what other people have already said, but I agree that this is an idea that could turn into something great!

Abomination|Descent by InfiniteStateMachine 2010-08-25T01:27:00

The game seems to have a lot of levels but unfortunately the gameplay is too repetitive for me to get through it all (I got to the bit that says Ludum Dare before I died). The game also seems a bit buggy. The music was good but it was a bit too repetitive and there weren't enough sound effects to give a higher audio rating.

This game would be a lot better if there was some goals and perhaps a story with some cutscenes to give you a sense of accomplishment as you work your way through.

Robots <3 Monster by timgarbos 2010-08-24T21:01:00

Very detailed and polished graphics! (The walking robot sprite was very cute) Nice music and fluid controls.

Could have used more variety in the gameplay which gets old after a while.

My high-score: 3952

Money Thief by Zachary Lewis 2010-08-28T18:10:00

This was a great entry. The graphics were very polished. The difficulty was perfect, so you could go through the game without worrying to much if you just wanted to complete it, but also it was quite a challenge if you wanted to perfect each level. The pace of the game was maybe slightly too fast. The music was great!

Some of the comments on the Kongregate site say to make it so that R resets the current screen, not the whole level. Don't do this, I like it how it is now :), although maybe you could give the player lives so that you can reset the current screen a couple of times.

CounterAttack by Vbitz 2010-08-26T04:42:00

This was fun, I managed to get to level 9, but it got very repetitive after a while. The difficulty progression was well balanced. The player's health bar seemed a bit pointless as it never seemed to go down very far. Perhaps if you removed it and made it so enemies depleted mana it would give more of a sense that you were in danger.

There seemed to be a glitch with the level background every so often (resetting back to the top of the image?). Also, there should have been more instructions on what to do, eg. pressing space to shoot and also explain that the goal was to destroy the portal.

HochEmpor by Mik 2010-08-25T23:27:00

An interesting idea. It was a bit difficult to shoot "enemies" and was hard to get very far without dying. There needs to be a goal or something to keep the player interested because otherwise it gets boring quickly.

Killer Knife-Robots from Knife Planet K by Jerm 2010-08-26T16:44:00

Thanks to everyone who has played and rated the game so far. I will probably write up a post-mortem after the judging is over with some replies to comments. I also have some replies to specific comments:

@Sam: The web host tends to go down sometimes I think. If it's not working, try again later and hopefully it will be back up. I was meaning to get better hosting but was too lazy.

About your second point, I think the game needs to be zoomed out to some degree so you can see incoming blades in time to deflect them with EMP.

If you want to try it out zoomed in, you can edit CGameController.cpp line 181 and change the 3rd argument to glTranslatef() from -100 to a lower number.

@someone: Good point, I didn't test with 64-bit. If the part that you're talking about is the call to OnNotify(), then the cast is probably ok because those pointers were originally populated from int values. But maybe I need to cast them to size_t before casting to int to avoid errors.

@Alan: Because Knife Planet K is not a friendly place and it is a general rule of games that touching enemies hurts you :).

Collateral by Jonathan Whiting 2010-08-25T02:23:00

Definitely one of the best entries I have tried so far! I managed to get all the way through the game. Graphics and audio weren't great, but were very polished. Didn't really fit the theme, but the theme is overrated anyway.

Would be good to have some in-game documentation about pressing Z to go through the cutscene dialogue and the [spoiler] mechanic that people seem to be having trouble with (I found it by pure luck). Also, some better sound effects and voice acting for the cutscenes would be awesome.

Double Bounce by Doches 2010-08-28T03:00:00

I'm sure the level uploading violates at least two of the competition rules :). All the levels that I played were very easy and it seemed the best strategy was just to launch at the nearest ball and reset the level if it didn't win. I think the gameplay should be fleshed out a bit more so that it's possible to create interesting levels that require more than a few shots to complete (eg. by having multiple target balls). Also, the level editor needs to have the ability to delete/adjust walls.

Leave Me Alone by hamburger 2010-08-26T03:58:00

This one was fun! It would be better if the difficulty didn't go from easy to very hard so quickly, or perhaps there could be a difficulty rating on each level, I nearly gave up on the level before the one in the screenshot. I liked the music, although it was a bit bland and MIDIish.

The Lair of Fungal Wonder by NiallM 2010-08-26T23:03:00

This was frustratingly difficult but I eventually managed to complete it with both endings :) (the scanning ending being much more difficult than the other ending). I really liked the atmosphere of the game. The difficulty was rather high, but I kept getting really close with 12 fungi scanned which motivated me to keep trying, so maybe it wasn't so bad. Maybe the game would work better with multiple levels and increasing the difficulty with each one.

LD19 — Discovery

Impatient Archaeologist by Hellfang 2010-12-27T23:45:00

Good game! Would have been better if there was more variety and/or levels.

Q-Bers by recursor 2010-12-30T01:16:00

Good game. Nice audio and the photos were cool. Kinda fun but probably a bit too easy, for a couple of puzzles I didn't understand the clue so I just tried all different pictures (maybe you need to mix up the textures on the cubes, or limit the rate that moves can be made).

The first time I played through I got to the first full-rotation puzzle and didn't realise there was a time limit. I managed to beat it the second time though (my strategy was to find all the faces with the right picture, then turn them up the right way).

It would be cool if there was a pause after solving the puzzle so you get a better look at the whole photo. Also, for the post-compo version, I think you should have left the last puzzle as a 4x4 one. Maybe add a 5x5 full-rotation one too.

Robots Among Us by Arne 2011-01-01T01:04:00

This was really nifty, and there were a lot of elements to the gameplay that made it interesting. It was quite difficult though. I managed to get to level 5.

Aquatic by Riley Adams 2010-12-29T05:21:00

Wow! This is awesome! Fun and very atmospheric. The only thing I can think that might improve this would be to have the player always moving along the ground and make the strafing less responsive (it doesn't really feel underwatery).

There seems to be a bug with the number of beacons. At the start it says you have 5, but when you drop one, it says you have 14.

Also, is there any reason to turn the engine off?

Dry Voices: who are you? by droqen 2010-12-30T12:28:00

Interesting idea, but I don't think it was well executed. If you don't get the trick, then it's just a boring platform game where you explore a large map (which is pretty epic, btw!). I managed to find several different endings, but it isn't interesting enough to motivate me to find more.

The music was good and it created a nice atmosphere for the game.

Also, where's your source code?

Introspect by ChainedLupine 2011-01-01T05:45:00

Great game! I made it to the end, but only found 1 secret. The game world was really cool but felt a bit empty, also the player movement was a bit sluggish. Apart from that, the gameplay was really good (except for some issues with enemy combat, as others have mentioned) and I wish there were more levels!

Compact Discovery by Starspell 2010-12-28T08:06:00

The player ship doesn't seem to move exactly towards the mouse cursor which feels a bit weird. The combat is too easy, when the pirates appear you can just hold down the mouse button until they are all dead. Also, the pirates are really fast and swarm you way too quick so you can't really see what's going on.

Apart from those issues, the game is really good! It was fun flying around getting money to buy stuff. It could probably do with more stuff to do or buy because otherwise there isn't much to do.

Quest for the Four Altars! by Staggy 2010-12-26T08:30:00

This was quite fun to run around in with quite a large map to explore. But it really needs more work to be interesting and replayable.

The collision detection was a bit buggy but otherwise the controls were good. If the game had enemies or something then it would have been better for the movement to be slower, but since all you did was explore then it was probably ok to have fast movement. The ramp-jumping (possibly unintentional?) was kinda cool and could have been made into something interesting.

The sound effect for swimming was quite annoying. :)

Discover The Name by arielsan 2010-12-26T03:51:00

There was a lot of attention to detail on the graphics, such as the fading and detailed sprites, which I liked.

I preferred the competition version to the jam version as the jam version was too tedious just trying all possible ways through the tiles and having to restart constantly.

Cardiac Arrest by GreaseMonkey 2010-12-31T05:06:00

The game was very simple and there wasn't much to do, so unfortunately it didn't get a very high rating. But, awesome that you made a game for the Master System! I tried reading the source code, but it looks like I need to brush up on my assembly.

Spacebrick and the Window to the Stars by Toeofdoom 2011-01-01T09:56:00

Nice fun game. Although probably too easy. I found you can just circle slowly around the planet researching the upgrade while the enemies shoot each other and keep missing you. I liked the graphics, but the music didn't really fit the game.

The game gets pretty intense after a while (like in your screenshots) but it takes a while to get that far. Although maybe that's a good thing because when there were heaps of enemies, the game basically freezes up until enough enemies have died that you can move again.

Arise by Jonneh 2010-12-24T03:54:00

I ran this in Firefox 4 beta and it seemed to run ok. I couldn't get it to run in Safari. (I'm on Windows 7)

This game really needs to have more stuff in it to make it interesting (more levels/objectives, some bad guys or puzzles). But it was a good effort nonetheless.

The controls were good, but could have been a bit better. You need to implement acceleration instead of having constant velocity for the falling and maybe have the character move a bit faster too. Since platform games are common, you really have to get the controls right (IMO). They need to be fast, responsive and feel natural.

Perluq Zafraais by Kalakian 2010-12-27T00:24:00

Good game but is quite hard and a bit repetitive.

dis_covery by jagttt 2010-12-29T08:06:00

Very fun game. I made it to level 21.

Sometimes it was hard to hit things in mid-air, also I didn't realise it was possible to jump. The graphics were a bit plain but had a nice style. The music was a bit repetitive but that's probably because I played so much.

Clarity by Hooka 2010-12-29T03:29:00

Good marks for graphics, audio and humour. But unfortunately this fails in the Fun category as there isn't much to do or any sort of goal.

Strange Lands by Entar 2011-01-02T03:27:00

This is a really good strategy game, and quite polished. The AI is not very aggressive so it's quite easy. (I played about 10 games and didn't lose any)

I don't think the 3D view worked very well for this. I would have preferred a 2D view and a bigger window that can see the whole board.

Land Ho! by brandonman 2010-12-26T23:52:00

Good game, but needs more polish. The cannons seemed to have unlimited range so you just had to wait for a bit at the start for all the other ships to shoot each other. I think this game would work better if it was more actiony with easier controls and you had to do more attacking.

There were a few issues with the map. Sometimes there would be an island on top of another island and many times the treasure was on the first island that I landed on which made it a bit easy and boring. Also I think you need to somehow prevent the player from going off the edge of the map, and have continuous water instead of a black void off the sides of the map.

The game needs to have an ending or some sense of progression because it got boring doing the same thing again and again.

Island Commander by Jerm 2010-12-27T01:00:00

Actually Endurion, it was because the game only worked in Vista or 7. I have now updated it so it works in XP so try downloading it again.

Island Commander by Jerm 2011-01-01T23:10:00

Wow, that's random. I'm using avast! which didn't find anything. I also scanned it on www.virustotal.com which also didn't find anything (actually 1 scanner marked it as some trojan, and 42 scanners marked it as ok).

Retirement of the Space Shuttle Discovery by Jonny D 2010-12-31T10:52:00

This really needs more work to be a fun game, but despite that I played it for quite a while. The controls were quite intuitive.

Destroying the moon was awesome! After that I flew 200000 km into space (there's some weird graphical glitches up there, or maybe they're relativistic effects), then came back down and crashed into the Earth at nearly 4000 km/s. Mission: Success!

Search&Bump by Balooga03 2011-01-02T05:38:00

I agree with other commenters that this needs more depth. Also, the ship turns too fast and you can't see the sonar marker when you are right next to a circle (planet?), which is annoying when there are two circles close together. Good start though.

LD21 — Escape

This is your dream by stRana 2011-09-04T08:08:00

I really liked the atmosphere. The gameplay was a bit boring but I was motivated to finish the game because I liked watching the progression of the different backgrounds. Nice graphics style and audio.

Escape from the Dungeons of Dread by Momeka_ 2011-08-28T03:38:00

Good game, but would have been much better without the annoying movement controls. I got to level 6.

Also, I would recommend not using installers for LD games as it makes it more difficult to run. Especially when the start menu shortcut is called 'MyGame'. :)

Illusion by abhilash2863 2011-08-28T02:25:00

Good game, but the controls felt a bit stiff. They would probably work better without the acceleration/deceleration when you start/stop moving. The game was a bit short, but I liked the story and the ending. :)

Monster Hunt by platypus 2011-08-28T05:17:00

Nice graphics. Gameplay was good but too short.

In your blog post you said you got the sounds from freesound.org, but you were supposed to create all assets yourself during the contest!

Robot Tunnel by Jerm 2011-08-23T01:03:00

@daandruff: The robots with the red stripe shoot very fast moving (almost invisible, unfortunately) fireballs which is probably why your health is going down. To avoid them you need to be constantly moving.

I'm not sure why you're not losing life when you get hit, but it only counts as hitting if the fireball hits right in the center of the player sprite (which for the smaller fireballs can look like the collision detection is not working :)).

Virtual Girl by splixel 2011-09-04T02:36:00

Fun! Quite frustrating but I eventually beat it. The controls were too sensitive so the jumping was really twitchy and annoying. I liked the different enemy movement patterns and trying to guess where they would go next. I didn't like having to restart the entire level over again when I died (although I eventually got better at the game, so this became less of an issue :)), maybe it would work better with lives or checkpoints or something. The graphics were nice, but would be better with softer colours.

Antagonist by Jonathan Whiting 2011-08-22T08:39:00

Challenge accepted: http://jerm.geek.nz/ld21/AntagonistWin.png

Also, great game!

EscApe by marudziik 2011-08-28T01:41:00

Fun game, but I couldn't get past level 6. Also, it took me a while to figure out why my energy was going down.

LD22 — Alone

A Door in the Dark by flyinpancake 2011-12-21T02:18:00

Managed to 'beat' it, but it wouldn't register my mouse clicks a lot of the time which made it more confusing that it should be.

LD23 — Tiny World

This is You by RAMzuiv 2012-04-23T04:32:00

Can you provide some instructions on how I can run this?

My Kid Dropped The Planet by MadGnomeGamer 2012-04-23T06:13:00

This is pretty cool, but I only managed to get ending B despite playing through a few times.

Poiesis by Them Games 2012-04-28T05:53:00

Cool idea! Was fun planting trees on my little planets :) Although I couldn't figure out how the scoring worked and it was difficult at first to figure out how to plant trees as I wasn't sure how deep to make the hole and how to plant the seed (some visual cues could probably help here).

Too Big For This World by Hallway 2012-04-24T01:55:00

This was quite fun for a simple game. I really liked the breaking apart effect on the blimps and tanks.

I thought having the friendly rocket launcher guys worked really well. The best strategy I found was to use them to take out the other rocket launcher guys and use the spaceman to destroy the blimps and tanks (if you tried to jump on the rocket launcher guys you would get hurt by the sword guys and if you ran at them you would get shot, so best to just go back and let the green guys do the work :)).

I managed to get over 17000 feet :)

Minor Deities by maranas 2012-04-25T03:43:00

It was kinda fun trying out different combinations of things (although I could never get them to survive the tornado). But I agree with others that the outcome of your actions felt random and so it was just trial and error.

1625 by voidah 2012-04-25T01:06:00

As others have said, it can't find MSVCR100D.dll. This usually means you need to compile it in Release mode instead of Debug mode, and get people to install the Visual C++ Redistributable package.

1625 by voidah 2012-04-25T03:52:00

Windows version works now :)

Quite good, but it seems there wasn't much skill involved as the best strategy was to place the same number of students in each row (maybe?). Also once the guys with guns came out it was only a matter of time until you got game over and so you didn't really have any control over the outcome. But maybe that was the point you were trying to make? :)

Battle For Tiny Space - Routing Edition by thynnmas 2012-04-25T02:52:00

The controls didn't seem too complicated to me. The time attack mode seemed better as the score attack mode got boring rather quickly. Also it seemed overwhelming having so many objects and as such was not very fun. Maybe it would be better if it started out easier with less objects and got harder over time.

Tiny World Racer by Kinokochan 2012-04-29T01:42:00

Probably the trippiest racing game I've ever played :) I didn't try multi-player so not sure how fun it is against opponents. You need to add AI opponents and better car physics and maybe some obstacles to make the game more interesting (like Wacky Wheels on LSD :)).

The Lump World by Kralle 2012-04-25T00:48:00

I eventually figured this out and managed to beat all 3 levels. The controls were really unintuitive and the game seemed quite buggy. Sometimes the attackers would just keep flying past the planet off into space. The miners would automatically come back the first time to drop off their resources, but after that they would just keep mining without returning (and I sometimes couldn't select them to make them return with their resources).

This was a good start and I think if you fixed the bugs and made a good AI for the opponent this could be a really fun game!

Watercolour by Super Soul 2012-05-12T04:43:00

Awesome. The map was huge! Very surreal atmosphere, especially with the background effects and all the clocks scattered about. The 'gameplay' wasn't really fun, but I definitely enjoyed the experience. :)

ZUNZANDA by SonnyBone 2012-04-25T01:34:00

This was awesome (especially the audio and intro)! Although the gameplay felt really slow and I kept falling off the side. And a lot of the time the starshines would just go out into space which made it take ages to get 8 of them.

TinyFish by Werxzy 2012-04-29T05:58:00

Interesting game, but needs a goal or something to make it fun.

Tiny girl by Fenyx 2012-04-28T06:40:00

Fun game! It took me quite a few tries but I eventually beat it. Although the controls felt a bit awkward at first and the gameplay seemed a bit too random where sometimes it was impossible to avoid things, especially with the small game window.

Space Imperator by quadtree 2012-05-12T03:15:00

Was difficult to get into at first because the controls are really awkward (I never mastered the controls, but was able to avoid dying long enough to take over a planet). But once I got into it it was quite fun.

Incursion by Jerm 2012-04-24T01:44:00

Oh no :( Does it come up with a message box or anything? (If so can you copy and paste the message?) What OS are you running (I've only tested the game on Windows 7 64-bit)?

Microcosm by maxman43 2012-05-13T08:06:00

I just kept clicking on things until I managed to win and didn't really understand what was going on. But still a pretty nifty game. I liked the music. :)

Escape from Minimars by Adhesion 2012-05-12T03:40:00

Wow, very polished game with a nice arcarde feel. I quite liked the progression in backgrounds as you got further away from MiniMars. The gameplay was a bit repetitive though, but I played through to the end a couple of times (got 500 kills the first time, then about 260 the second time).

LD26 — Minimalism

The Room by olkeencole 2013-05-04T04:05:00

Cool! The idea of just having to press a button to advance the game (instead of actually having to play it) was very minimalist. Also nice graphics, visual style and sound effects. It wasn't particularly fun, but I pressed the button lots of times just because I wanted to see what happened next.

Fallen Outside by DDDBOMBER 2013-04-29T08:02:00

I really enjoyed this game. Fun and not too difficult.

The controls were a bit sluggish and I also had the sideways jumping thing when you were standing next to a wall which was a bit annoying.

Also for some reason the game didn't seem to fit together very well. The main character seemed to be some walking office printer and the game world felt very generic and uninteresting and the music didn't really fit the game. Personally, I think I would have preferred if you had spent time making a story for the main game instead of making the minigames.

The levels were good and thank you for making the player have unlimited lives. I would have hated this game if there were limited lives :) I played as far as I could get (16 levels, 9 minigames and got all 12 potatoes), but when I went to play level 17, it crashed with: Exception in thread "Thread-5" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 16 at com.dylan.ld26.menu.LevelSelectMenu.playButton(LevelSelectMenu.java:141)

Desire by burtlo 2013-05-04T10:09:00

Not an incredibly fun game, but the atmosphere was really well done. There wasn't very many graphical elements, but what was there was really detailed and I really liked the whole visual style of the game. The music was really good too. I also liked how the 'enemy' had a few different styles of movement, which keeps you on your toes. My best score was 4700.

Flight Time by Lerc 2013-05-05T08:23:00

Played for a while and it was quite fun. Although some levels were a bit annoying because it seemed the only way to complete them was to just randomly try different things and see if it worked. I gave up on the level with all the small red circles and two grey circles.

Succession by chrysiridia 2013-04-29T06:08:00

Had to play it a couple of times to figure out what to do, so maybe more instructions would be helpful. Not particularly fun (or maybe I'm just too impatient), but definitely moody and interesting. I liked the graphic style that was simple but had lots of detail.

Blind by miotatsu 2013-05-04T04:51:00

Interesting game once I figured out what was going on. Would be cool if it had a story.

Please Ignore The Dancing Llama by Zed 2013-04-29T05:12:00

Simple and fun game! Very polished, but still minimalist. Took me a while, but I finally got 20301 points.

Quick Copy by koller-digital 2013-05-04T02:52:00

Cool concept. I like how everything is draggable and how you can scroll the view up to get back to the title screen. Although I found it a bit difficult to draw accurately with the mouse. Managed to get to level 14.

Ultra pong by snade 2013-04-29T09:10:00

This game is deceptively hard, in a good way ;). A simple concept but quite tricky because you have to think about where the ball is going to go next and line up two paddles at the same time (especially when the ball is going into a corner). Although it can be quite annoying when the ball bounces off one of the small paddles when it's right near the edge and you don't have time to react.

The game was quite fun but I wish it could have been polished up more. My best time was 48 seconds.

The Road by GeorgeBroussard 2013-05-04T05:44:00

Hard game and very addictive, although maybe slightly too punishing sometimes. Very well executed and polished. The best I could get was 18.

LD38 — A Small World

Space Travel 15 by jk5000 2017-05-10T02:55:19Z

That was really fun! Probably the only bad point for me would be that the difficulty ramps up quite quickly. But overall it's a really polished entry. Nice one!

A lot of life in a small world by smdeveloper 2017-05-13T10:13:11Z

I didn't really understand this game, sorry. It seems that clicking the buttons didn't really affect the simulation much so it didn't really feel like I was making any impact. Also it seemed impossible to lose even when the temperature got to minimum or maximum.

It's a good start, but I think it needs more to engage the player. Perhaps a goal or some way to win/lose the game. Or have a more visual simulation (instead of just numbers on the side) and have the player actions actually have visible effects in the game.

Damn it, Don't Die! by RafaelSPBarbosa 2017-05-10T05:14:02Z

It was a bit difficult to get into at first when I didn't know what to do and the game would end very quickly. Although I figured it out after trying a few times.

Awesome graphics but the gameplay was a bit repetitive.

The Aliens by Nnnnneeeedddd 2017-05-13T05:00:42Z

Neat game! The gameplay was a bit repetitive, but the upgrade system gave you a reason to keep trying after getting killed, which was really nice. Although it seemed only upgrading the gun made any difference to the gameplay. Also I think it would be better if the upgrades were more expensive as it didn't take long to get them (but maybe it's just me who likes grindy games ).

I found the alien ships quite difficult at first because the small view meant they would appear right above you so you didn't have much time to react and they would kill you in one shot.

The particle effects were neat and I also liked how the background sky got darker as you went up. I managed to get to level 9 and also got max upgrades on my ship.

Dream World by Mordokay 2017-05-14T08:55:04Z

Awesome graphics! The music and the strange shapes gave it a real dreamy feel which was nice. The gameplay was good but didn't have any progression that is usually in tower defence games so it got a bit repetitive.

To start with I was confused as to what everything was and wasn't sure which things were enemies. The spiky things definitely look like they are bad for you, but don't actually seem to be.

Planetary Escape by w1n5t0n 2017-05-13T05:38:58Z

This was actually really fun, despite being frustratingly hard! I managed to get a high score of 7. (Also, it would be better if the game kept track of high score)

The control scheme made it feel like you didn't have much control of the space ship, but I actually think this makes the game better and makes it way more punishing if you miss your shot and have to try and get back in position to take another one. Also I found out early on that you can be killed by your own lasers and so spamming shots wasn't a very good strategy.

Omega Llama in: Bullet Surfing by yumaikas 2017-05-14T03:39:15Z

This game was quite hard to figure out how to play. It seemed ok once you started getting a combo going, but the initial timer at the start of the combo was so small so it was really hard to get a combo started. It was still quite fun though. I managed to get about 500 points after playing it a bunch of times.

Finding your loved one by Laaph 2017-05-10T04:46:58Z

Cool little platformer with nice graphics. But it was a bit glitchy.

World Tours by Mathiouza 2017-05-10T03:12:48Z

This doesn't run for me. When I try to start the .exe file I just get an error message: "A Java Exception has occurred." :(

NES ROM - Arlington Apple in an Interplanetary Pickle by team-disposable 2017-05-11T05:09:26Z

Neat little platformer and the level of challenge was just right (not too hard, not too easy). One downside was it seemed that once you entered the central part of the level, there was no way to get back out to get the blue crystal? I managed to complete the game on my second try though :)

Micro Mayor by pizzapranks 2017-05-06T05:01:55Z

Not bad, but it seemed a bit buggy which detracted from the game a bit. If the bugs were fixed and it were polished up a bit it would be quite fun I think.

Naval Bathroom by Giardi 2017-05-14T01:19:24Z

Really fun game! I didn't have anyone to play with multiplayer, but even playing by myself was fun. I liked the graphical style and atmosphere of the game. The mixture of bathroom toys and naval music/sound effects was perfect.

Probably the only negative thing for me would be that it took me a few tries to get the hang of the controls. They seemed to work the opposite of how I expected them to and so I kept moving in the wrong direction and shooting straight into the water.

Horizon Leonard: Galactic Scavenger by MattWoelk 2017-05-10T04:13:32Z

Fun game! The controls were a bit difficult at first but I got better with them after some practice (I was using an XBox 360 controller). At first I tried to fly along the surface of the planets to pick up the cubes which I found almost impossible. A better strategy for me was to dive down at them from space.

Great graphics and audio and the game had a nice atmosphere (no pun intended). I enjoyed flying through space and looking at all the different planets. I eventually managed to get all the cubes:

Complete.jpg

Dung Beetle by Louspirit 2017-05-06T04:22:47Z

Great game! I liked all the different levels and the sound effects really added to the atmosphere. The controls seemed a bit clunky, but overall this was a really polished entry. Well done!

Mzae by Tristan0214 2017-05-14T05:17:50Z

The character animations are awesome, but unfortunately the gameplay isn't so good. The controls are way too twitchy and it's really hard to jump up on the platforms. There seems to be a few bugs too (if you shoot the side of a platform, the 'bullet' will stop moving and stay there for a bit before disappearing).

Platform Styx by MoneaGames 2017-05-16T07:49:38Z

Wow this was awesome! I loved the atmosphere of the game. The lighting effects and music really made it.

I also liked the simple "gameplay" which doesn't get in the way of exploring the world. But maybe I'm biased because I did the same in my game (although yours is executed much better) :)

Glade in the Sky by AdroitConceptions 2017-05-06T03:51:37Z

Nice game! But a bit hard. Although I persevered and made it to the end.

Battle for the Last (small) World! by Sniperninja564 2017-05-06T05:27:13Z

I get the same error if I try to use a controller, but if I unplug the controller and use the keyboard it works fine. I have an XBox 360 controller if that helps anything.

Anyway, the game was kinda cool, but a bit repetitive and quite hard. Nice graphics though. I got 190 as my highscore.

Shovel vs deforestation by chispaLBC 2017-05-14T05:38:25Z

Nice game! It was quite fun but got a bit repetitive. I managed to get to level 36.

Micro Conquest by Blueman 2017-05-14T04:41:57Z

I played through this a couple of times and it was really fun! I like the simple mechanics which makes it very easy to pick up.

The only improvement I can think of would be to provide some indication when a new troop is spawned. Also multiplayer mode would be awesome if I could find some people to play it with :)

Quantum World by Paul Nadan 2017-05-13T11:02:46Z

Nice game! It was a bit hard to figure out the logic behind it, so for a while it seemed like I was just trying random things out. I eventually figured it out though and was able to beat the game. Also, I was able to beat the second level without using either of the purple cubes and only using the other 3. Not sure if that was intended.

As has been mentioned already, the text at the start of each level doesn't stay up long enough for me to read it.

I also had the camera problem that others have mentioned where the controls are inverted (running web version), but I could fix it by rotating the camera all the way around vertically.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Living Mandala by wdebowicz 2020-05-02T01:20:13Z

Nice graphics/music and very relaxing! It would be better if the Mandala was bigger maybe.

Serveryard by ping78 2020-04-25T05:38:55Z

This game was awesome! Simple idea but well executed and quite well balanced with a good level of difficulty. I had to play it a few times to pick it up, but eventually figured it out and managed to get to the end. It was tense having to wait for the taps to refuel at the end and hoping the generator didn't run out of fuel :)

As others have mentioned it's not immediately obvious how to play so you might want to add some instructions.

The game was a bit slow at times on my computer, but it's 7 years old now so maybe I just need a new one. Also I'm not sure that Unity counts as HTML5 :)

Super Smash Berries by masterkrepta 2020-04-25T02:24:23Z

Interesting game! The blueberry was hard to attack the enemies at close range. Also there is no penalty for using the Boost, so I could just hold it down all the time, except that my finger gets sore eventually!

What's the trigger for switching characters? It seems to pop up even when there are still enemies around.

I liked the low-poly graphics and sounds :)

Cyto Killer: Save Our Cells! by loveapplegames 2020-04-26T02:00:43Z

Great game! I don't have much to add on what others have said. I found it quite hard at first and it took me a few tries to get the hang of it. I managed to get almost to the end, then got stuck on the last level with one bacteria cell left that I couldn't clear, but I'll count that as a win anyway :)

You managed to accomplish quite a lot in the time available!

Wayward by KingMatthew 2020-05-10T05:52:13Z

Fun game! I liked the level design and the waves of enemies (kinda reminds me of Serious Sam).

The scythe attack was cool, but I found the controls a bit awkward.

P1 - 5NT by MiltonNH25 2020-04-27T05:48:28Z

This is awesome and I spent ages playing it! It took me a bit to figure out how to play, but I eventually worked it out and came up with a good strategy and managed to beat Researcher mode in 8 days. Researcher mode was definitely my favourite.

The music was great and the funny messages on the screen in the top-right were a nice touch :)

KTPA by acronaut 2020-04-27T08:36:31Z

The graphics are quite trippy, and fit well with the music. But the gameplay feels a bit repetitive and also the automatic turning at the end of the corridors was a bit glitchy, so sometimes the player either wouldn't turn (and so would crash into the wall) or would turn too early and get stuck.

Keep it alive by gogu 2020-04-27T06:11:08Z

Neat game! The levels were quite good, but I wish there was more :) The graphics were nice too.

The idea of having the music tempo and player jump height depending on the heart rate was really cool, but wasn't really used much in the game.

The last baby ninja by SeabirdDigital 2020-04-26T00:52:38Z

I liked the graphics! The game was too hard for me so I didn't get very far.

Sometimes the challenges would disappear just after they came up, so I couldn't beat them.

Chasing Shadows by Andrzej Gieralt 2020-05-02T02:09:38Z

Awesome game! Has a great atmosphere and I wish there was more to play. I liked the room design with the glowing things on the walls, and the voice acting.

Heartbleed by terminal29 2020-04-21T06:50:45Z

This game was quite fun and I think I got to the end (it said I completed Stage 1, but it didn't look like there were more stages).

I liked the lighting effects, and the controls were good too. Sometimes the game could be quite punishing such as sometimes when I jumped down to the next part of the level I would land on a slime and it was impossible to avoid.

I don't think I understood the respawning mechanic as it seemed I couldn't choose the Respawn and Die options in the menu sometimes, but had no idea why.

But overall I thought this was a great game!

Rebooting Flowers by Haoro 2020-04-21T05:01:06Z

I was able to get the game to run by renaming the LudumDareFS_Data directory to RebootingFlowers_Data, but I couldn't get past the first section of the game. I was able to grow the flower but when it got to the section of dialogue about the "Tree_Server" it would go back to the main menu.

Anyway, I thought the dialogue was amusing and it sounds like you have a unique concept, so well done on your first game :)

My Mother is a Caravan? by Gideonnf 2020-04-21T02:20:36Z

Great game! It took me a few plays to get the hang of it, but the difficulty level was just right I think.

Nice graphics and audio!

The Last Sun by JunaGames 2020-04-27T01:54:13Z

Cool game!

The enemy spaceships are quite overpowered which makes it hard to gather resources.

I like the graphics and how the planets have little moons orbiting them.

Run Run It by Vildas 2020-04-25T06:10:26Z

I like the dynamites dropping in on balloons, and the small dynamites look cute :) Nice music too!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Digmania by LeviDSmith 2021-05-02T01:59:36Z

This is quite fun, and I liked the music too!

Perhaps the balance could be improved as the difficulty ramps up quite quickly as the enemies speed up and it's quite overwhelming when there's a bunch of them at once, but the game still works well despite that.

Now I'm going back to try beat my high score...

Orbdig by 5Mixer 2021-04-26T09:43:55Z

There wasn't really much gameplay, but it was still really fun flying around and blowing everything up.

Infiltr8 by joe40001 2021-05-09T04:44:19Z

Awesome game! One of my favourites I've played so far. The early levels are a bit easy (although that's not really a bad thing since it's almost like a tutorial for exploring the game mechanics), but the last level is a real mind-bender and really fun!

I also really liked the graphics, all the extra details added a lot and make it much more visually appealing.

Final Society by conrad123 2021-05-02T01:26:02Z

Neat game! It reminds me of The Stanley Parable. Really good music, and also Spencer's voice really adds a lot to the atmosphere.

Also I don't have a VR headset so I rated it based on the gameplay video.

Cloud 57 by quadtree 2021-05-08T01:13:47Z

I found the combat quite difficult as it was hard to avoid enemy lasers and turning the ship to face the enemies was slow, and also it was difficult to hit the enemies with my own lasers. But I managed to beat the game by just avoiding the enemies and flying straight to the end.

I liked the graphics for this, they remind me of some old-school 3D space games. Also the music adds a lot of atmosphere to the game.

Treasurebot - Gem Collector by Jerm 2021-04-26T09:10:56Z

The levels were all drawn by hand. My original plan was to have them procedurally generated, but that turned out to be too difficult, haha. The placement of the gems is random though.

Monk D by asfdfdfd 2021-05-08T00:42:23Z

Nice graphics! The game was very easy, until the last level which was quite difficult at first (those projectiles are almost impossible to dodge), but I managed to beat it by memorising where the enemies appear.

Diving Ball by sonicpixelation 2021-04-26T05:28:11Z

Neat game! The difficulty seems to vary suddenly from very easy (where you don't even have to move to avoid the platforms) to very difficult (when you get a wide platform directly underneath you), but that kinda adds to the atmosphere I think.

My highest (lowest?) score was 867 metres.

Burilka Pump by abvadabra 2021-04-27T02:06:48Z

Great entry! It feels really polished and I like the graphics. Probably the only thing I didn't like was that the gameplay felt quite restrictive because you could only place things on the end of already placed pipes, but maybe that's just my personal preference.

Also it wasn't clear that you need to scroll downwards to start playing the game, but I eventually figured it out.

My highest score was 40, but I could probably get higher if I spent more time figuring out a good strategy

Ludum Dare Dex / ArdyTek Collab by Dexter Liu 2021-05-08T05:55:17Z

A good attempt, but it needs more work to be a solid fun game I think. The main thing for me was that most of the games were too slow paced and easy, except the rocket game which was very difficult (when you get two rockets coming from different directions at the same time it's impossible to block them).

Hell Train by Acule 2021-04-26T10:04:34Z

I really liked the graphics and style of the game. The gameplay was a bit simple and like other people here, I just kept pressing F on everything until I got past each level. But still a really good entry!

Probed by ellipsis 2021-05-01T06:07:49Z

This is a simple idea but it was quite fun and I spent ages playing it! Some drawbacks are that it's possible to win even with only a few upgrades for the ship, and it's also hard to land on the outer planets (although that's not much of a problem since you can win the game without them).
