Got to level 4 before i started getting bored though! So it must have some fun in it :P. I wasnt sure what i was doing until about 2 minutes into the game though, i didnt notice the other health bar at the bottom. lol
@Redbone: exe is in binx86Release
The background effect was cool and the menus were nice. The game was a bit too simple. If the enemy movement were smooth, it would have felt and looked better.
I got to level 5 or so before quitting. There wasn't enough challenge.. there didn't seem to be an indicator of when a next level was going to happen. A good, solid game, obviously working as intended, and there's a lot to be said for that.
It didn't seem to really fit the theme, though.
It was a bit of a mission getting the thing to run, I pity anyone without experience of visual studio and who couldn't also recognise that it's an XNA 3.1 project and needed a specific runtime. You would do well to put some guidelines in your entry description.
Huh, I had to dig rather deep to find the executable. The game is fun, but the second level has really annoying background effects.
This was fun, I managed to get to level 9, but it got very repetitive after a while. The difficulty progression was well balanced. The player's health bar seemed a bit pointless as it never seemed to go down very far. Perhaps if you removed it and made it so enemies depleted mana it would give more of a sense that you were in danger.
There seemed to be a glitch with the level background every so often (resetting back to the top of the image?). Also, there should have been more instructions on what to do, eg. pressing space to shoot and also explain that the goal was to destroy the portal.
@Jerm, thanks for the good review, that glitch is caused by the level background not being seamless, the position is reset once it gets to the bottom.
it just crashes here :/
@zigs have you got xna redistribute installed
I didn't realize the thing at the bottom was a health bar / enemy until reading it here in the comments, so I didn't see any theme relation at first.
The gameplay was a bit simple, but other than that it looks fairly well put together.
Couldn't really judge it because I could get it running.
