LD18 — Enemies as Weapons (14)

Rubber and Glue by alexandersshen 2010-08-23T18:28:00

This is OK. The graphics are nice, and it's pretty refined. I could see this doing well on some free game site for a short time, if the vocabulary was expanded a bit. :)

AfterDark by AClockWorkLemon 2010-08-23T18:25:00

This was OK. It seems like the winning strategy is to try and even out the playing field and avoid getting head-dropped, but the game was too slow to make that any fun, and the tower climbing seemed random since you'd just get head-bricked and die.

Killer Knife-Robots from Knife Planet K by Jerm 2010-08-23T18:18:00

This one is OK.. It didn't strike me as great. I would like the whole thing to be a bit faster, I think. Then it might feel frenetic and much more fun.

dance dance dance by nyarla 2010-08-23T18:14:00

GREAT game. The sound effects really make this, I think. It is pretty awesome, the aesthetic fits nicely. I think you should be able to pick up multiple partners, but I've always thought that. :P

Andrew The Angry Salmon by T8000 2010-08-23T18:06:00

The art is great, and the game is quite fun, a nice mix of puzzle and twitch. I'm not really convinced this really fits the theme.

But seriously, port it to flash and stick it on Kongregate. Certainly a game I'd recommend to others.

Rotate by Jonneh 2010-08-23T17:53:00

This was a neat concept. A pattern on the background ot indicate what you were moving would be nice, and the rate of fire on the cannon is pretty slow, making the game play somewhat tedious.

AstroVax by moop 2010-08-23T17:47:00

The graphics are nice and retro, creating a retro effect without it seeming like you're just using low-rent graphics, which is always good. The core mechanic is nice, but I never felt like I was in danger or really needed to do anything. I don't get why the game ended.

Nice and finished.

Tacticool by Flyboy 2010-08-23T17:37:00

I didn't get the concept at first, but this seems like a kind of neat tower defense mechanic. It seems like it needs balancing, but I'm not sure what's possible with the core idea, because right now the waves would have to rise exponentially.

Weapon-E by hukacikanaka 2010-08-23T17:31:00

Okay, I hate springs too. The sound gets grating after a while, and it's just annoying to deal with the springs. I did get to level 6 briefly. I couldn't bare trying to get rid of the spring for a third time. The concept could be fun, but in this state it's not.. The graphics are serviceable.

Alpha Channel by Spooner 2010-08-23T17:23:00

The sounds was too loud, and I suspect you were playing the sound constantly upon contact, which made it so loud and grating.

I like the concept, it worked very well. I didn't find the graphics great, honestly, but a solid effort. The gameplay idea could be expended into a very fun game.

Protractor by KilledByAPixel 2010-08-23T17:09:00

It is very pretty, you have the graphics for this sort of thing down to a tea. The gameplay is there, but needs a lot of tuning. Baddies take a lot to take down, and the tractor / attach system is confusing... Audio is passable and servicable, but bland.

CounterAttack by Vbitz 2010-08-23T16:59:00

I got to level 5 or so before quitting. There wasn't enough challenge.. there didn't seem to be an indicator of when a next level was going to happen. A good, solid game, obviously working as intended, and there's a lot to be said for that.

It didn't seem to really fit the theme, though.

Clinging to Life by Myx 2010-08-23T16:34:00

This seems like a very fun concept, but I couldn't really get the hang of the second level. I know the controls are 'standard' but I kept getting what key does what mixed up. Very nice concept, it would make a fun game. Sort of like a supernatural boy and his blob.

Daremon by Fiona 2010-08-23T16:00:00

This game was very fun! It was a cute idea, and very fulfilled your purpose in making a pokeclone.

I don't have a lot to add to what was said below. I was annoyed by the lack of saving (Which you commented on) and the switching between the mouse and the keyboard for the various functions.

LD17 — Islands (57)

Baby Leviathan: Eat All Fishies by ExciteMike

Cool swimming mechanic! I wish there was more to do, more levels and an actual ending. There's a lot more potential here.

Islands At War by Srekel

Well, that's pretty neat, but a bit too luck based at least on the hardest difficulty. I'm also still confused as to how the finances work. In the screenshot right there, how much does a gold tower actually cost? It's not free because you can't build it without any money. Is this just a bug?
I think the towers lack feedback in general. It's kinda hard to keep track of how much damage you're dealing to the ships or the HQ. Some elements of this reminded me of Plants VS Zombies. If you decide to develop this further, I'd look at PvZ for some pointers.

Radio Silence by Terry

Very atmospheric. I wish it had a bit more challenge to it, but it was still fun to search for the radios based on sound. Discovering the first one was a good moment.

Deep Under an Island by Sparky

"Under" an island? Not so sure about that interpretation of the theme... The puzzles are fun though, although they do get kinda samey with big areas of apples to chomp through.
Short and sweet, I guess. I feel like there are probably a few interesting level designs that you could still squeeze out of the mechanics.

Nuclear Test by sf17k

Pretty crazy. I wasn't quite sure what that was but it was pretty crazy.
I guess I do agree about settings making for bad themes, because you can just make any game and place it in that setting. I do think that several games used it well though. I guess you used it in reverse, where the setting was really out of this world even though there were some islands in there. Good show.

Arcipelago by 1009

A strange take on the theme. A dude made out of islands? The level design is a bit haphazard, but had some neat ideas, like riding the platforms.

Ascention by kd5bjo

Neat puzzle game. Like an indirect platformer. I'm not so sure I see the theme here though. I mean, I suppose floating platforms could be islands, but you need to sell it a bit more.
I got up to a level where you start out at the bottom left corner with a yellow block above you, ice platforms at the top and a blue platform in the middle. I got stuck on that. I couldn't see a platform above the screen to get to, and there were no buttons, so I'm not sure what that was about. Does the game end there?
Extra brownie points for making it in Javascript.

Treasure Tub by Jonny D

Fun use of photographs. The game really needs a multiplayer mode. The audio got a bit on my nerves. Also, I think the bullets could use some immediacy; it was kinda hard to tell sometimes where you were really shooting when you and your opponent were both moving.

Intercontinental Drift by hamburger

It was fun for a few rounds, but then it got stupid hard. I think it would had been challenging enough even if you allowed different colors to collide with each other.
The music gets a bit on my nerves.
Points for being original though.

Whales of Aelia by PsySal

There was some problem loading the game, but it worked when I opened the SWF up directly in my browser.
I think this was a fantastic game. Took a while to figure out though, but I thought in the end it was very evocative. The first time I played it I missed the opening text that explained the goal. I think that's what happened to a lot of people, but then it also might be that it's just hard to understand. It certainly took me a few tries to understand what was going on. I'm not sure if you were trying to make a statement about religion or perhaps something else, but that's what I felt I got out of it. Fantastic.
I agree with Hempuli that the font was very hard to read. As for the public domain NASA image, I think that's at least somewhat fair game, since it's not even like you used it as is, and it's not a major part of the game.

Zombie Grinder by demonpants

Looks like you took more than a little bit inspiration from River City Ransom. That's ok, but I was kinda hoping the game would have the open style world from RCR. It was kinda fun anyways though, but a little basic, and it seems like it didn't matter how many times you died, and it also seemed like by far the best way to beat zombies up was to do the flying kick over and over again. I did like that you got friends to help you out when you got further. I think that mechanic could be really interesting in a more fleshed out game. I didn't really like the zombie horde following you. It made it so that I was less focused on fighting and more focused on dodging. I suppose that kinda makes sense though.
I was a little disappointed with your use of the theme. The game could had just as easily been in any other setting, and it seems like I was running along the beach the whole time. It would had been interesting if I had started in a forest or something and made my way to the beach.
A couple of technical things: You should probably look into audio compression with MP3 and OGG. 35MB is a lot to download on slow connections. Also, where's the source code?

Hockey Island by crackerblocks

The scores I'm giving you are way too high. This game was just silly! To be more serious though, I wish I had more control over my island's orientation and my stick, but I suppose the complete lack of control is really the charm of it. Can't wait to see this as an actual sport.

Paradise Fort by Hempuli

Very cool game. The controls are a bit confusing though as the key for "build" is also the key for "cancel" and the key for "throw" is the key for "accept", so it's a bit backwards. I would also probably place the jump button on A since that's probably a bit more conventional.
It's not very obvious what you need to do in the game, especially since no enemies seem to ever appear if you don't build cannons. I would love to have a few more things to build or tools to use. Please keep working on this.
Also, I hate those motherf*ing birds.

Islands: Through the Sweep of Stars by Morre

The graphics are very very nice. I especially liked the ending. The "gameplay" though is very simplistic, and the riddles were a bit arbitrary and didn't follow any pattern. I would love to see you do another series of these, or perhaps flesh it out into a graphic adventure.

Monkey Islands by Wiering

Well, the graphics are beautiful and the music is a joy to listen to, but it's not much of a game. I hope we'll see a real game come out of this.

BRAVE ISLAND DIVER by jwaap

This is another game I get angry at. I jump from the highest point on the map and *thump* hit the ground and lose my momentum, having to travel all the way back up. Other than that, I loved playing it. I hope you do a bigger game around the mechanic.

The Floor Is Lava by NMcCoy

I wish it had a feature that saved your highscore. I'm not sure what mine is, but I'm pretty sure I had over 400.
I think really, very good as an LD game. Does just a couple of mechanics very well. I think it could be improved with a couple of additional mechanics to make it more interesting. Enemies maybe? Dash move? Double jump? Something to consider.

They Came From the Ocean by bluescrn

Very shiny. The game itself is simple, and pretty easy. I played until level 9 before I started wondering what actually happens if the black things touch me. So then I walked right into one and died.
I like the screen border. Makes it seem like I'm in a submarine or a mech. Adds to the feeling of being hunted, when you kinda feel even more so like you can't really see around you at all times. Obviously you wouldn't even without the border, but the border enhances the feeling.
Again, very shiny.

The Noah's Ark by desertdweller

I'm giving you a bit of points on innovation and humor, but the connection to the theme is pretty vague and you obviously didn't put a lot of effort into this.

Keytrader by Barefists

The way the tutorial worked was a bit annoying because I had to click while holding keys. Also, after I finished the tutorial, the game was just over. That's quite an unusual way of things. Usually the tutorial is the part people skip.
Anyways, really cool concept, although obviously it will suffer from the faults of modern keyboards.

Hula Girl HD by philhassey

Well, that was kinda funny, but annoying to play. You need to match the "steps" to the rhythm of the music. Otherwise it's just Simon.

Every Man Is An Island by brian

So those platforms are actually dead bodies? O__o They look kinda abstract.
The game is pretty good. I think the physics are very good so the character feels fun to control. Once I managed to jump down through a platform, so there are some bugs it seems. The game was over too quickly :-( It could also use some music and sound effects. Would love to see a longer version.

Islands!?! Curses!?! by chrica

Did not work. I do have .NET 4.0 and XNA 3.1 installed. Couldn't find an XNA 4.0 runtime.

Is Lands? by Tom 7

That's a pretty bad pun... and there wasn't much to play. The music and graphics are nice though, and it's kinda neat to fly the plane around. Maybe you could do a continuation with more complex levels.

Piratey Tycoon by Tyler

A bit hard to get into. You should have instructions that you can read at your leisure instead of scrolling by slowly. Trading doesn't feel very piratey. Seems to me like pirates were the enemy here. Also, you should make an executable that runs your game directly, or at least a batch file to run it for you. I'm not sure everybody gets how to run the game.
Good show. I think with some tweaking this could be a lot of fun.

The Naturalist by JMNielly

I guess you were rooting for "Evolution" to win the theme poll? :-)
Too bad the game doesn't have an end, or much anything to do after you get the mole claw. I was hoping something would let me swim to another island, but I guess it wasn't in the stars. I hope you continue working on it. I never found any use for the turtle shell or the tuxedo. Did those actually do something?
Also, I didn't quite understand why Hannibal Lecter is cataloging animals. ;-)

Pleochorism by smn

Fun puzzle. Gets really difficult though especially when the islands are all oriented differently. Maybe the game could have an easy mode where the puzzles were the same but the islands were all upright? The music makes for a really creepy atmosphere.

Poke-Slayer by bulle

Can't really say I enjoyed this. I really wanted to buy a flamingo too, but the game didn't let me buy one!
I do appreciate the effort. A song with lyrics is a rare thing on LD.

Oh, and where's the source code?

Island Warz by Staggy

Son of Galcon. Well, it's obviously still unfinished, but it's still good fun for a couple of minutes and it's a good use of the theme.

WeComeFromTheSkies by Mstrp2ez

This game seems promising, but has a lot of issues. You can't tell which islands and dragons are yours and which are your opponent's. Sometimes I would start the game and start out not even looking at my castle so I wouldn't know where it was. It also feels really slow to get your economy going if the nearest islands are far away. By the time I had a single dragon, the opponent had five. I like the concept here, but you need to work on the details.

Nieuwe Aarde by zorbathut

I really enjoyed this game. Playing a few games, figuring out the strategy necessary to escape. Good stuff. It would had been cool to see the monsters, and I wish the game had some background music, but even as it is the game is a lot of fun.

Tropical Islands of Doom by Codexus

A very pretty game. The penguin and the turtles look unnaturally shiny though. The penguin looks like it's made of rubber and the turtles look like they're polished marble or something. Regardless, the gameplay is pretty basic. The level design was pretty good though; I only missed one treasure chest on my first run through, even though technically the world is completely open for me to go anywhere.

Waves by Gregory Avery-Weir

Not too bad. I like the mechanic of boosting yourself out of the water. Reminds me of Fishface. It would be nice if there was more of an indication on when the chopper is going to be on the landing pad. First time I got there there was nothing there, so I figured I need to do something first, and the second time I got there the chopper was just leaving so I thought maybe I missed it. Then it came back though, but I wasn't sure. I left the game running for a moment and did something else while waiting for the chopper to come back. I felt the sharks weren't very threatening since they only took points off, but then they were really hard to dodge because you don't have very good control over your character underwater. I would tilt the balance towards more threat and more control.

Island Construction Malfunction by Benn

Cool game. Kinda feel like it would fit the Flood theme better than the Islands theme, but I can still see that the goal is to get the dudes on areas with no water, basically islands. Some of the puzzles got a bit difficult to grasp because the water started out so far away from where the dudes were.

Island Robotica by billknye

Conceptually good, but has some issues. It seemed like the map was littered with invisible walls. It seemed I could never fit into single tile spaces, even though the car/robot seems to be that size. I also found brown areas that looked like bridges but that I could not drive on, which was strange. By that time though, I could jump high enough that I could drive a bit into the water and jump across. That I also found weird. That I couldn't drive on some areas that looked drivable, but could drive a little way into the water. The only gun I found was the zapper, which was a bit annoying to use since I could not move while using it. It's like it was a temporary landmine or something like that. One final thing was that I had little clue as to where I need to go, except the little star on the map, but then that was my main goal. I had very little clue on my immediate minor goals. I was also a bit confused at first because I couldn't jump but if I pressed space it would still make a sound and I would lose energy.
Sorry about all the complaints. The good news is that those are not too difficult to improve upon. :-)

L'il Guys and the Floating Islands by AClockWorkLemon

Fun game. I like the visual style too. Makes it look very clean. Some of the earlier levels got a bit boring because there were so many l'il dudes and I just had to watch them go. Background music would probably help there.
I hope you make more puzzles for the game. There's a lot of unexplored potential here. The last level had some really good challenge going on, although it did kinda require some fast twitch play at the end.

These cannons fire too fast by pwnmonkey

This was basically pretty fun, but really slow at least in the beginning. The game kept crashing on me on level 2 so I couldn't really see if it takes off after that.

Capturing the islands was a bit boring since you just sit there capturing. The enemies were also really easy to fight. I think the control scheme was basically a neat idea, but I got disoriented with the mouse movement several times. It should probably be a relative motion instead of an absolute one, so that if I flick my mouse to the right, my ships turns right.

Also the standalone version wouldn't run even though I do have Java 6 installed. Got the error "Could not create the Java virtual machine."

Message by belbeeno

I loved the interface and it's cool to see a story told through gameplay. The visual style was also very good, although the player character was a bit bland.

I do agree that the music you chose fit very well with the game, but I'm putting that down as N/A now. I suppose I could judge the new music, but I understand that it was made outside the compo period, so I think N/A is probably more appropriate. To comment on the new music though, it's probably a bit too upbeat. If you develop this further and decide to use your own music, I think a slower song like the Brother Android one would probably work better.

Island of Bounty by Ashkin

I like the arrow shooting mechanic, and the little native dude looks cool. The island obviously looks very tiley. The opening fall is a bit confusing. I first thought I was sinking into water. There needs to be stuff on the foreground going past so that you can tell that you're falling.

Hungry for Island by the31

What a strange approach to the theme! Feels kinda WarioWare-ish to me. I also started button mashing after a few levels. It gets a bit boring. I finished at around 400 forks I think.
The controls are a little bit difficult because of the perspective and low mouse sensitivity (which I have maxed out in my OS so it's not just my system). It's also difficult when you can't see behind hills. Perhaps a higher point of view would be better?
The music was fun and chipper.

Artifact Hunt by allen

Very pretty. Not that much substance though. The first time around I forgot to run, so I starved because there weren't enough bananas. The bananas should probably be more visible.

Island Airline by MrPhil

It also crashes for me. Hope you get it fixed soon. I downloaded it after you posted that you had fixed it, but it still doesn't work.
Rated just for community now.

Super Macho Minesweeper by Mark Overmars

It's just not that funny a joke.

Island Escape by NateNaterson

A solid platformer. Good production values too. Opening and ending cutscenes, level select screen. Good show. I was only really bugged by some minor things, like not being able to see if there were medusas (?) in the water below you when you jumped in, and the moving platforms had odd motion ranges where they would overlap the ground, which once caused me to die because I misestimated my jump and fell into a pit, and another time because the moving platform pushed me back into spikes. But that's minor. The level preview feature was also awesome.

Dnalsi by bildramer

I couldn't figure out how to play the game, so I left most of the ratings as N/A. Also, why are there two exes in the zip file? Is your source code really one huge file? You're braver than you look. O__O

Island Hopping by Riley Adams

I played the original version, and while it was difficult, it was also a ton of fun. One of my favorite entries so far. The graphics are very simple, but they do their job very well. The music is repetitive but not annoying. What the game does sorely miss though is a high score table. Preferrably online high score table. I haven't played the double jump version yet, so maybe it's not that big of a deal there, but what I thought could had helped with the difficulty is if you had a minimap that you could refer to, especially for long jumps where you're staring at the sky. Frankly though, I think maybe you should limit the player's vision or just make looking up not do anything, because that's a bit of an annoying thing to have to do. My best score was 49700. I got close to that on other runs, but on that run I got a 4x multiplier followed by a decent combo, so I got lucky a bit.
Oh, I guess the game also really needs a tutorial. It's not obvious that you have to tilt your view to affect your jump height.
I hope you keep working on this. I'm going to download the double jump version now and play some more.

The Forgotten Isles by Tempest

A nice way to tell a story. Gameplay was a pretty basic maze thing. I do agree with other commenters that the control should be relative to the camera. I do not mean think that you need to change the camera angle. Just change how the controls work. I do think if you work on this further, you should add something more than just the maze. Mazes can be a bit boring unless there's a lot of different things to see.
Some people commented on music, but I didn't hear any.

Ultimate Baluga Whale by Overman

This is not how you enter Ludum Dare.

Island Rescue by fydo

This game keeps making me angry. The villager keeps drowning himself. Totally not my fault! The controls are a bit slippery, which killed me a few times. Didn't make it past level four. I'm afraid I'll start breaking stuff if I try more.
Well, I think the fact that I got angry at the game is telling that it's actually kinda good. The graphics are pretty and the music is pretty good, although it gets a bit repetitive after a while. I think you might want to work on the controls a bit. I think it'd also be nice if the villager had a little bit of AI so that it doesn't drown itself when there's higher ground nearby.
I've been mostly trying to get the villager to high ground as quickly as I can, then trapping him and playing tetris above him. Probably not optimal, but saves me from worrying about the little prick.

You are me now by eli

Fun game. I really liked the idea of connecting islands through lowering water. With literary reference too, and extending the metaphor to connecting you with your enemies through mind powers. :-)
The player character was kinda slow. I think the game would feel better if he was faster.

Tango by shrt

So, I guess it's not actually a game. I think an interesting mechanic to add would be to have an option to make the fighters protect you from missiles. The camera is sometimes awkward. I do like the minimalist visual style.

Roller-Derby 20XX: Mega Islands of Awesome by refrag

Fun game. It's really hard to avoid the blockers when jumping though. Most of the time I would die from hitting them between platforms and falling down.
While I agree that the music is good, I'm going to leave that as N/A because I think using GarageBand loops for Ludum Dare is a bit suspect. I've pretty much heard this exact same music before!

Crowned in Doubt by dgfitch

The lighting effects are excellent, but the game is really hard to play thought because you can't see the bugs unless you're constantly spinning around. It also seems like moving around doesn't really help. I think the game would be more interesting with a larger level with other light sources that you could take a breather in.

Mad Hatter Island by Devlin

Jumping required pretty high precision. Could had used some leeway there. Also, I'm not sure this game had any islands in it. Still, a neat little platformer.

Voyage for the Queen by Serilyn

I stopped playing when pirates hit my ship. First I was happy because they didn't took my bananas, which I was gathering, but then I went to resupply at the Queen's castle and lost all my bananas. I mean, the game did warn me, but I figured since the pirates didn't take the bananas, the Queen's resupply wouldn't either. I wish I could had just dropped off the bananas I had and continued getting the rest.
I think the game also needs a compass or a map to help you find the Queen again. I managed to find her, but I wasn't sure I was going the right way until I did.
Basically though, fun basic trading game.

Infinite Deadly Islands Of Terror by Hamumu

Fun. Good use of theme I think. Your island generation algorithm seems to be pretty good. I didn't even realize at first that they were random. Then on my second run I actually ran into unbeatable levels though. You give a little, you take a little.
Could use some music. The bridge tile should probably fill the space. Now it kinda looks like you might fall through gaps between tiles.

Rocket Bike To Space by rik

Very pretty and I really dig the music. The gameplay is pretty fun basic Canabalt-style one-button hopping, but I didn't really like that you could not jump when your bike was bouncing off the ground. That just made the timing more punishing and the gameplay that much frustrating. I suppose in that sense this game is oldschool in both good and bad ways. Also has a very Japanese feel, what with the anime big eyes and all the sushi.
I still love that music. I think I'm going to leave it on loop for a little bit. :-P

LD16 — Exploration (63)

Hot Dog Hunter by Henry McLaughlin

It's there. That's about all I can say.

Finding Her by nitram_cero

Fun, atmospheric. I couldn't bring myself to finish. I was slightly annoyed at finding out you had to repeatedly ask people about new tokens. Other then that, very fun.

Explore that map! by doohan

So I think I got to the end, and it's a death room? Other then that, awesome game. It would be nice if it started you at last collected key instead of at the start, I would have actually played through again if it hadn't done that. Love the graphics. Love the music. The sfx aren't great, but they work.

Gratuitous Battles in Space by 5parrowhawk

Your game is basically as described. Incomplete, and suffers from some performance issues. The ships are pretty.. What did you use to model them? Also, XNA 4 EVAR! I would very much like to see your Source Code sometime too, please!

(Note, if it crashes on start-up, ensure that you have the XNA Framework version 3.1 and .NET Framework 3.5 installed. The games don't actually Check for these things, so.. :( )

Tree by gimblll

A great concept! I don't think the fruit gives you quite enough juice. Unless this is a whole zen thing about how inaction is the best policy. But the gameplay was very innovative and different!

Road by sf17k

I'm not sure this actually says anything.

CollabRL by sinoth

A nice text based collabrative workspace. If it had some rules for the world it would be nifty.

Spacexplorer by pythong

Game has serious collision detection issues. The concept was funnish, I couldn't ever find the 8th sprite and move on, and just kind of gave up after a while. I'm not sure if I should have been killing other things.

Hunters of The Northwest Passage by PsySal

Nice little concept! I like it, the menu system is unique in this compo, and allows you to present a nice little story.

Alien Diaspora by quidditymaster

This game is fun! I love indirect control games like this (As should be evidenced by the sorts of games that I make.)... This is a good time. Srsly everyone should play it.

Forest by increpare

This is the third game with more or less this idea in mind. It's sort of interesting, but I would have likes more direction.

Apocalypse Adventure by Hempuli

Awesome game to be had here.

Sunday Hiker by matrin

A neat little mechanic. As you say, not really a game.. graphics are simple, but they fit.

Asploreheim by SpaceManiac

Every time someone needs to try a MMO, right? Obviously ambitious, but relatively unfinished. You need some sort of scrolling background to indicate that you should walk outside of the paths.

The Europa Arcology Incident by Notch

Great little RL from Notch!

Colonial Age by Stoney

Interesting. Not much too it, obviously, but functional. I did like the control scheme, it did take some getting used too, though.

Jail Escape by Rudy_Guillan

This fits awesome! I love it, very original in this compo. Unfortunately the wall bug makes it really hard to play. Post if you fix it?

Exploration game by gustav

XNA FTW! A fun concept.. it ran slow on my box for some reason, or at least it _felt_ slow, I can see where you were going with this.

Drifting in the Stellar Winds by mocker

I can't really do anything because the way it renders in my browser most of the game is cut off.

derelict_ by stuckie

I tried really hard to like this! The exploration aspect is there. It would be less frustrating is A: Walls has a different texture than black, and B: It warned when you were switching turns. I love TBS, though!

Massacre at Misfit Toy Island by sfernald

Yeah, this crashes for me too.. I'm on windows 7 x64. I don't really know what's wrong. Also, my screen is only 1280x800 or so, so I couldn't play it full rez anyone.

Where is the Cheese by KungPhoo

This game rocks! This is awesome!

Age of Exploration by wonderwhy-er

I see what you're going for here. I would prefer more tactical possibilities. It also took me a long time to figure out what to do.. It would help if you highlighted the help more, or made it auto-change after 15 seconds on each slide or whatever. The sounds add a little, but the probe launch should have been shorter.

LoneStranger's Explore by LoneStranger

It is what it is, what can I say? :)

Explo48 by Codexus

Graphics are so-so in my opinion. to much specular lighting.. to glary. The controls on a keyboard are mushy. the gameplay is fairly straightforward, but there. Sound effects are too loud, and not very pleasant to listen too.

Chameleon by Undead3

There's really only one mechanic at play here. It's a start of what could be a good game, if finding the points lead to more poitns or somethign, but a very well polished entry.

Mars Rover by Rafael CP

I like the idea of programming games a lot, and I know your implementation time was short. With some UI work this could be lots of fun.

Authentic Space Exploration by Hexane

I'm sorry, but very meh.

Amke's Revenge by Mark Overmars

Just to hard for me to stick with. It's a fun concept. The art is retro. The sounds is awesome! The music fits the atmosphere, and makes the game that much better. Better controls would have made this.

Soundscape by Atomic

A very good attempt at a very innovative concept! I couldn't stick with it long enough to finish, but I sort of like the idea. It is different!

Tower Quest by moltanem2000

Sound was very fitting graphics were simple but presented a clear visual style. It was addictive to play

Lost? by retrogamer500

Great fun! I wish the game window was bigger.. it kinda started to strain my eyes after a bit.. Sounds were great, music was awesome.. controls were responsive. The sound was a little loud when I started the game up. The jump puzzles scaled nicely... weren't too finicky. The save points are generous and well located.

Explorium by MoltenMustafa

Technically accomplished, but not really compelling. The real challenge seems to be 'how long will you play'. I see what you were going for, but.. Also, the colors clash a lot, and it's very distracting. There's places you can go to pick colors that aren't clashy like that. http://colorschemedesigner.com/

Ezo by C418

Very compelling. Interesting use of sound. Interesting experimental game concept. I'd like a little more feedback as to how much I'm supposed to change directions, or what input are required from me. I got 2 different endings, anyway.

Asteroid Explorer by Akunate

This work functionally as promised. I hope to see you again in April.

Wheres my jacket? by rolfeth

I installed pyOpenGL, and it still doesn't work. Maybe you're using an old version to code, because I get many depreciation errors.

Shoot For The Stars by Diet Chugg

Audio is kickin' here. Everything else is kind of meh. It's a good complete game. The music is awesome, though.

Heli scout by Laksen

I couldn't get to the scene in the screenshot. I went a little ways, then lost in a sea of blue. I see some promise here, try again next LD, please!

Scavenger by Fiona

Great game! Full of fun stuff to do, fun places to go! Great to play, will probably pick it back up after the compo.

Legacy of HYDON by Arne

Very pretty, obviously! But the art is great. Kinda too bad about the game, if there was even a little more there, I'd play for a while just to enjoy the art.

MindPloration by Risko

I liked the platforming, it caused you to really look at what was around. I didn't feel like the experience was.. immersive enough to keep me playing to get to the goal. There was something here, but I wasn't grabbed by it.

Winter by JackZack

The jitter of the console window really put me off this otherwise functional exploration game. I wouldn't have known to go in the house or the pyramid without different visual clues if I hadn't read the thread here.

Cubees: Age of Exploration by Tempest

Music gets a little repetitive, and the gameplay needs to be tweaked to give a bit more challenge, but really really good overall.

Super Mario Ripoff by Overman

I'm not sure I'm all on board in the humor department, maybe I don't play enough ROM hacks.

Phish world by grayger

Ramming things to attack them was kind of annoying. Other than that, a passible little side scrolling shooter.

The Medicine Hunt by lurreluck

Yeah.. Very funny game. I guess the horrible IBMPC sound could be considered ironic too, but. At least it works functionally as you expect.

islomania by hazman

It's OK. It seems a bit broken (One game I had to restart because I glitched into the wrong side of the map). I'm not sure what 'p' does except make you lose the boat.

Rex's Junk Hunt by Catmoo

A good game, a bit simple, but I could see my kids playing it. In fact, I'll probably let them try it tomorrow. Great game!

Leaving Satisfactoria by eli

Eh. I'm very meh on this game. I don't really feel that me winning was a product of my inputs, and more a product of not having the wrong rocks spawn.

5 Colors: Pandora by Jordan Magnuson

Hard to figure out. Some hint about what keys to press would have been appreciated. Also I kept getting some sort of bug while playing through the game, and it did eventually make it unplayable. Kind of a fun little puzzler / indie style game.

Gravity by davecheesefish

I can see what you wanted to do here. It's OK.. I don't think you have quite enough control over your ship to really make it click.

BTW: You can use normal .wav files for windows games without using XACT, fortunately.

Also, to people who it just crashes on: You need the pre-reqs (XNA 3.1, .NET 3.5). You can download them from microsoft (Or my game installer does it for you.. plug plug)

EchoExplorer by refrag

Graphics are great, and suit the game well. The 'plot' was fun and funny, and good. Game didn't last too long, held attention for the time it needed, then let go when the idea was over. Had some 'aha' moments which were fun. The echo could have been a bit more revealing, I was annoyed with it at times, because ti would black out the bits I actually cared about. Over all, fun!

Chip 1234 by voltain

This was OK.. passable platformer with some fun stuff. The first platformer on my list that you could jump a reasonable height. I know the theme was exploration, but it was a little monotonous and expansive to hold my interest for long.

Explorer Quest by Devlin

I like the look of the game, but there wasn't enough variety to keep me interested. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way not to die. I just got frustrated. Also, having the mountain you have to enter being the same icon as every other mountain is kind of a meh move.

Intergalactic Farmer Bob in Space Hijinks by Zecks

A super retro ascii platformer. The music fits in nicely with the theme, and is pretty kickin. The game is too slow, though.

Northern Spy by BenHem

Controls akward and spongy. I didn't have any trees I could get too before he died.

Intestinal Cavity Explorer by XMunkki

Okay. That was awesome. Also, I love the sound / music. Great idea, original, and fun. The challenge level in this is just right.

Bashplore by samel

Yeah, I think no bash shell for now. If I stumble across one I'll come back

oil exploration by localcoder

A good unique take on the theme.. I'm not sure I got everything working the way it's supposed too, but I kind of liked it. I think you move too slow, though.

The Legend of Purple Dot - Epsidoe 1: Purple Dot the Explorer by philomory

It's a game, it's kind of there. I'm not sure what to say about it. Nice to see someone using Ruby!

Robot Wants Kitty by Hamumu

Okay. I'm obviously not hardcore, but I gave up after the blind jump part. Too much random. The controls feel a bit mushy to me, not very responsive, and the one jump (you know the one) is a touch too picky. Also 5 shots is too many. :)

Still, a very cute and fun game. My wife: "Oh! How Cute!"

Boboil goes Exploring by AtkinsSJ

Graphics could use more contrast. Also the 3x3 view is sort of problematic since you auto use items and stairs. Still, very good take on a RL that uses exploration for XP

Chopface by DrPetter

He animates well!

LD14 — Advancing Wall of Doom (1)

Evacuation by jsb

This is kind of cool. It's hard to see on my screen, and my resolution is larger than most. Other then that, the AI and the game run great, it was obvious what needed to be done, etc.

LD10 — Chain Reaction (49)

Final Release by XMunkki

despite my efforts, nothing XNA runs on my PC.

Unknown by X-0ut

It's really hard. I don't think there's enough time or something. It's bright, and pretty, but not compelling to play.

Final entry, un by Wiering

Doesn't seem to run on my PC.

Vector Chain Attack by wicked

Passable Run and gun game. I think you need more lives. The theme is barely there. Seems nice for what it is, but the thrill doesn't last long.

Snowroller by viblo

Got this to play pretty easily. I don't get the point, though. I can't figure out how to actually prevent the house from being hit. Also, I don't really see the theme in this.

Zanmato by Tivi

Nice vector graphics. I agree with the below, you need to finish it so we can see what it was going to be! I don't get what I'm supposed to do now, tho.

Reflex Battle, in by TeePy

I'm not sure what you were going for. I understand that it's incomplete. There's not really enough here to comment on.

sg’s entry by SteelGolem

Your download link was broken when I tried to download it. :(

Partycle Popper 1.1 by sol_hsa

Good take on the theme. The level progression is nice, the difficulty progresses nicely.

Skalle: Galectric by skalle

Doesn't seem to run for me either.

Unknown by jhauberg

Didn't run on my initial pass.

Working Title: Ruckus by shanecelis

I really dislike the graphical style. It hurts to watch. I think you could make a fun game out of the chain reactions, tho.

Hero School by SethR

Really hard. Fun, I think you could get good at it, but it seems like there's too many bombs.

Space Chaos by Samiljan

Really hard to control your ship. I also don't see where chain reactions come into play. Other then that, nice space shooter.

Next by saluk

Plays well. Interesting twist to the match 3 idea. Needs some polish though.

Boostcraft by rale

Didn't work right on my laptop. Only drew part of the screen. I like the timing element (in contract to the aiming in Lerc's game).

THE CAVES OF INSANITY!! by philhassey

Kinda hard to play on a touchpad. Seems like it could be a fun game if developed.

Updated version of my game by Papper

A great take on a shooter! I think something like this could be developed into something really fun.

Marble Bomb by NyanNyanKoneko

I have no Windows computer is PS 2.0. :(

Moonbase by noonat

Fun! I like the mechanism of the exploding guys. You seem to have a lot of control over the game, which is great.

Basecamp Chain Reaction v1 by negativegeforce

Just not much there. I see whatvyou're going for, but it's waaaay to hard to control the ship in any reasonable way.

GlobCombat: Final Entry (incomplete) by chaotikZA

Obviously there's not really anything 'here'. It sounds fun.

Shrapnel by mjau

Shooter. Pretty standard shooter fare. I don't get where the chain reactions comes from.

Paramecium by midwinter

It runs too big on my laptop for me to see it. The idea is kinda cool, but the guy that you let off seem to have little AI.

Mr. Splode by lexaloffle

Great game. Gets just the right level of difficulty. It is one of the 'chain reaction via. explosion' games, but tons of fun.

Boomshakalaka Done! by Lerc

The game idea is neat, but the aiming is very tedious. I would say you need a way to press like 'r' and have it shine where the bombs would go. But then it might be too easy.

Unknown by jovoc

Obviously there's not much here. I think I see where you were going, though.

ly by john

It ran, but there's not much here.

Cascade by Jay

Look, Match3. At least someone's not making a liar out of me.

This would be better if it checked continually for 3 in a row, and you could get big high scores.

Chain Pain: Final Submission by Jach

Very unique twist on the theme. The game itself gets old after like 1:45, but a nice twist of the game.

Short Fuse by Hamumu

A good concept. The 'chain reaction with explosions' is a but overplayed this compo. The different goals in teh levels (nuggets, barrens, multipliers) is fun, tho.

Unknown by ha1f

I 'get' it. It's just a match-the-color-chain where you take out the 6 around the one you click and the one you click. Unfortunately, it's just not that fun.

M3 – Molesting the Match-3 Market by gummikana

Great backwards idea. The fun kinda runs out after a few plays, tho.

Rapid Polymerization of Free Radicals by greencow

Didn't run upon initial effort.

Ms Green’s lovely day by gimblll

Great game! Lots of fun! A puzzle game with the theme without bombs!

Space Reactions by fydo

The game is too easy. You don't seem to be able to lose. Good graphics.

Catalyst by Frimkron

Good game. I don't think there's enough here to really compel someone else to play it with me, but I see the strategy. I wish there was a way to see more info, the current way seems rather ponderous.

Didn’t finish, got pretty far though… by Fiona

Great music and sound! Fairly standard carpet shooter style. i don't see how the theme applies.

Chain Reaction: Detonator, the final? by Endurion

One of the better 'puzzle game with bombs' style I played this compo. THe levels where you have to aim the balls are a bit tedious, tho.

HeliChain by drZool

Crashes for me. Sorry.

Final entry! I’m late! by DrPetter

No game there, obviously.

Fairy’s Light by DraykDyna

I didn't really get it. I couldn't figure out what exactly was supposed to happen with the lazers between the orbs, and it's so quick when you hit the fairy to reset, it's hard to figure out. Also, the fairy controls are weird. I think I see what you're trying to do, but it's not there for me.

Mission Accomplished! Or, as Confucius would say, To go beyond is as wrong as to fall short by Deepflame

Seems like a good game. I can't wrap my mind around the strategy though. Nothing seems logically correct. No Sound :(

Finally by BenW

Once you get the hang of it, the game makes a lot of sense, and is a lot of fun. Great job. Could really have used a tutorial, and needs some re-playability.

Very daring concept, tho

TheCrawlyCrab by baggi

I couldn't get this to run upon my initial try

Towers of Skye “tech demo” by Archwyrm

Empty Zip

Unknown by allefant

Kinda fun. The mechanics are kinda unique. Unfortunately, there's a lot of people who did this, so...

Ramuh-Shmoo by Sophie Houlden

Level 5 didn't work or seemed hard. I couldn't figure out what the point was. The game has a lot of character.
