LD14 — Advancing Wall of Doom (21)

superflat’s Balls Of Legend [Mac / PC] by superflat

Nice minimalist design, cool music. The gameplay is pretty hard because of the delayed controls of the marble and the fact that some passages are obstructed and hard to be seen.

By Touching It With Your Spikes by Super-Dot

Okay, the controls are effectively the enemy in this game. Even after I figured out the rules (don't touch black pixels, always touch dark grey pixels, at least that's what I believe), I didn't manage to get past the first corner. Pity, because the idea of controlling an inertial AWOD as the player has quite some potential.

Peak by shaktool

1002 years! It's sometimes hard to tell the green and yellow dots apart and your influence on the simulation is very limited. Nevertheless -- very interesting gameplay mechanics.

rollbak_LD14_BlackHoleComing.zip by lucasshrew

Cool! The mouse controls flow nicely and you have simple yet fun gameplay. Could have needed some eye-candy though. Or what about some slight attraction between the Black Hole and the asteroids?

Sir Henry Placeholder and the Badly Timed Parade by rogual

This game is fun to play and fully polished. Great job on the funny graphics and music! One minor flaw are the controls: Jumping on A was a bit confusing to me.

Wall of Cats by redokapi

Cute idea, but strangely, I found it pretty difficult and tedious. I agree with Covenant that it would be really nice if the walls stayed at least for a moment. Also, not really true to the theme, imo :)

Hackworth’s Last Kick by Noyb

Didn't quite get this one. Sometimes you gain a point when you hit the ball in mid-air, sometimes two? LOL'd at the end. On second thought, it quite fits the style of this game that you can't check your score after you're dead. (Which puts this game thematically closer to agj's Heart)

Hello by mjau

Okay, the ending made me smile. Not too much to say about this. Looks technically solid, I liked the sound loop in the background. Too bad it's so short; when I saw the text screen, I was preparing to immerse into a vast adventure ;)
Still good job for 6 hours, though!

Escape from LHC by mathias

Cool looking black hole effect, the movement and collision were a bit too choppy for the hectic gameplay. Also, the second level can only be done if you know the perfect route.
Nice to see how you extended on my "Unforseen Consequences" idea :) It's a pity you didn't have enough time for some more setting-related polishing.

Walls of Tron by mantis

Cool idea and really fun to play despite its simplicity. Could have needed some motion smoothing though, it's sometimes really difficult to orientate. Also not too relevant to the theme.

Mood Fo Llaw by laremere

Yay, funny take on the theme that goes well with the pixelated art style. Sadly, it is quite hard to hit moving targets when you don't know which muzzle will fire the next shot. Also, fullscreen would have been nice to prevent clicks outside the window (happened quite some times to me). Anyway, enjoyable!

Hungry Derivatives Advancing Collapse by jph

Well polished game, I liked the color palette and the cool effect of the disintegrating blocks. Movement is a bit spongy and the floating height of the collectible bits is hard to anticipate (maybe it'd be easier if they had shadows?)
Is there an end?

StarFerret by jlnr

This is a rock solid base to build on. Gameplay feels fine, difficulty is just right (though I used the glitch so I didn't have to collect the rescue capsules ^^), only two things missing are sound and MORE LEVELS :)

Closing My Eyes by hamburger

Sorry, I didn't know what to do. Found max 3 tokens by clicking random parts. Couldn't find any difference between the two playing modes. :/

Slugs v Salt by Jonny D

Took me some time to figure out how to jump and shoot. The controls are a bit problematic as it is not possible to turn around quickly to fire while fleeing from enemies.

It is fun to have allies fighting with you, although it would have been better if they'd separate so the battlefield wasn't so cluttered. The battles are hard to overview, still they look kind of fun.

Doom Runner by Endurion

Although I hated that the game always started at level 1 after you died, I played it again and again. The idea is simple but well realized with diverse level design. Could need a more threatening visualization of the Advancing Wall though.

Robo-Jimmy and the Bouncy Adventure of Doom by Draknek

Cute music and coil spring jumping robot, would love to see more levels!

Best LD14 game I've played so far! The way you create versatile and challenging gameplay with so few simple rules is simply genius. One minor point of criticism: the hitbox of Jane Danger could have been just a bit slimmer.

Bonus points for a cool psycho-optical effect: When you stare on the scrolling background for some minutes and then close the window, your screen will warp :)

Solar Lift by codekitchen

Figuring out the rules took me some time and I found the game really hard as there's apparently no way to regain health.
I'm a fan of the minimalist vector graphics. It also looks really cool when you carve a hole into The Wall and then dive down to rescue a planet.

I'm haunted.
Your game challenges the definition of a game as it draws its effect from the user interaction. Although the actual interaction is minimal, I wouldn't have been far as affected if I had just passively watched a video sequence.

[Wall Girl] by 5parrowhawk

Runs smoothly on my machine, but - damn - this is hard :) Even after looking up the rules in your blog post I found it difficult to use the color switching intelligently; maybe I'm too slow for these kind of games :)
Good job on the graphics esp. the cloud layers in the background!
