Nice pixel work. :) I think this is the start of something great.
I like the basic mechanic a lot. Pretty charming visuals too. :)
It's kind of awkward that the only way to control the repulsion direction is to first set an object down, then get on one side of it. Maybe if you added a force in the direction the player is moving, that would help?
I like this! A nice mechanic. Good music, though I got a bit tired of the one song. I found needing to press down + X really annoying; I'd have much preferred just X for all three actions.
Awww I'm sad you guys don't like the music. I was really happy with it. Not yer typical game music, but it was exactly the tone I wanted. :)
If I had a little more time I would have put in some text-based cutscene-interludes, which maybe would have supported the intended tone of the music: lonely and overwhelmed.
Anyway I'm glad everyone's enjoying the gameplay.
Thanks everyone for the feedback and votes! Overall a good run; I scored 15th overall. My weak points were humor and community. Story of my life.
I'll incorporate everyone's suggestions into the post compo version, whenever that occurs, including adding a "get ready" start moment.
The circle of whips that some of you are getting stuck on is in fact winnable! The secret is to entice the last two whips to destroy each other.
shaktool, I'm really happy this was your fave! That means a lot since there were so many amazing games this time.
Cool mechanic! I think this is a prototype for a good crazy game. Kinda made me dizzy and/or sick though.
Hah! I had fun. Loved the intros and outros. I'd have benefited from a way to review the instructions; both times I forgot what I was supposed to be doing due to poor reading comprehension.
Cool; I could see this being a fun way to explore real world pieces of art, for kids or whatever. Without any constraint on color switching, it doesn't feel so much like a game, more like a toy.
Notes as I play:
- wish the color switching was a toggle (1 button to cycle through)
- wish I could use arrows instead of A/D to move
This is the first game so far I've played through all the way. So, cheers! You must have done something right. :) Nice little puzzle system and a charming setup.
I like your art. Pretty fun. I didn't find the exit though; is there any way to find it other than trial and error? Using audio to look for water I found more rewarding.
This was entertaining. Cheers on making a game with a tone unlike everything else. :)
This is a really cool game! One of my faves so far. The visuals and sounds are great. Starts out ominous, gets exciting when the enemies keep coming and coming and coming. Thanks :)
I think you are being too hard on yourself. It's charming and I enjoy the bullet duels.
Impressively ambitious! I love the idea of anything being programmable as anything. I'm glad there was a tutorial, but I couldn't quite figure out what I was doing. Needed more feedback for my actions; I could barely tell if I had guys selected or not, and whether they were acting on my commands or autonomously.
Pretty cool game, good work :)
Notes as I play.....
- Love the music
- Art is cool too, especially the little avatar
- guy moves so slow, it's annoying
- Slow move / tiny guy / big world makes a cool vibe overall.
Painfully slow cutscene whenever I die; loved the puzzle mechanic though! It's a fun game.
Cool game! It is always fun to match wits with intentionally simpleminded AI! Also I liked the full restart when dead combined with unlock passages... like Demon's Souls. Love the win screen. :)
Guy moves painfully slow. I always got killed the second time I saw a bird; seemed like there was nothing I could do to stop him from draining my health? Cool setup though.
hehe, cool design! I enjoyed it till finally being annoyed to the point of quitting on the smiley shooters level.
I love the concept! It is great to do two things at the same time - I am pretty sure it's good for my brain. Good stuff. Thanks :)
hahaha I had a lot of fun playing around with this, partly because (owing to its being a 48 hour game) I had no idea what was going to happen when I hit Go. It's fun to crush those little guys and watch the physicsy goings on. Sadly I got a crash at the beginning of the earthquaqe stage - message said 'sprite not setup for physics'.
Nice concept! I had fun! However I didn't need to use my brain much - there was almost always an obvious thing to do.
I love playing in the really tiny window. I would say that's the most literal take on the theme I've seen. :)
I loved building my map then flying through it. I think if you sped up the gameplay a bit it would be a lot more pleasant to play.
Nice atmosphere :)
Great concept! I would love to try this out with the multiplayer design you've envisioned. As is singleplayer is too easy I guess.
Cool game! An unusual and interesting design. Great presentation of visuals and audio.
I love the intro music. Wish the game didn't automatically quit when I die.
Hey, reminds me of that one Ravensburger board game. It's fun, good job :)
This looks like an interesting game, but I couldn't get it to run. All I get's a black window. On windows 7 x64.
Al Coli you BASTARD
I was having fun but then the game crashed when I froze to death. I like the graphics a lot.
Unfortunately I am too lonesome to find a partner for local multiplayer, but I played against myself and still had fun. You got a real simple system here that could make for some fun jousting. I really enjoy the easy going music.
Hey man, really nicely laid out levels! I happily played to the end. I'd enjoy seeing a post-compo version with music and hopefully more levels.
This looks cool, but I got that same "error defining an external function" error. I'm on win 7 x64.
This game is pretty.
I love this! It is a very good feeling to try to wrap my head around the text based rules while enjoying the awesome music. It is amazing to see all the variety of behavior that comes out of these simple rules, and then the rules are right there and you can edit them and share them and this game is perfect!
Cheers on learning a development platform via Ludum Dare--that's the way to do it for sure! I like the concept and setting. Would have enjoyed leader boards :)
hahahaha that will teach them to mess with my cow.
Nice ambience; those monsters are scary. I have to say I always find the darkness mechanic sort of annoying though.
Cool puzzles! Well done!
Sorry guys, I made some last minute adjustments to level difficulty and obviously I went too far with level 2. It's sort of dumb how much randomness plays a part in this. For a post compo version I think I could do much better level design. So glad you all are still enjoying it though! :)
This is pretty fun! I got stuck on the level with the two staggered squares.
This game looks awesome, but I'm trying to avoid cygwin on this computer.
I love when games are poems. I guess my only criticism in this case is that the two types of interactivity - first murdering the line of enemies, then zooming in and out - don't reflect each other. The anti-war message isn't reflected in the moment-to-moment feeling of the gameplay (click click click and try to figure out what is changing). But for making a game with a message and providing a counterpoint to other games, I congratulate you :)
Cool concept and excellent level design! I think you guys should keep working together because you have made something nice here!
Hmmm I just get a white screen when I try to load the web version.
