LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

Wild Forest by haqu 2011-05-11T10:29:00

Really nice! Too short in my opinion I want more! You really pulled me in with the presentation. It totally reminded me of limbo and despite having just a couple simple sound effects that seemed to add to it rather than take away, almost like playing up the 'alone' aspect. I would love to see an extended sequel.

Yhn by Jhelle 2011-05-11T10:19:00

Really well done! My only gripe is that there were certain bottlenecks in levels that took me way too many attempts to get past (around 10+ deaths to finally get by).

Aside from that I absolutely love the graphics (they totally have an old-school megaman feel to them), the sound effects are very consistent with the animations (breaking through some rocks sounds very satisfying), and I like the interesting take on the wall-jump. Overall I really like it, good job!

Zom-key-bot-calypse by LiquidAsh 2011-05-11T09:54:00

Not bad, I think I see what game mechanic you were going for and I like it but (and maybe it's just me) I found it difficult to lineup the batteries with the robots so as to make them go where I wanted. I liked the graphics. The game could've been aided greatly by an introduction or tutorial of some kind on startup (I played the web version btw).

I think that overall it was well done but it needed more structure (things like a plot [however simple], making the goals more obvious to the player, etc.) Well done!

"Alone" by natpat 2011-05-11T09:29:00

Cool idea and the implementation was done well. I ran into a bug where after both the penguin and turtle died the level didn't reset. My only minor gripe is interface-related, the instructions made sense but it can be a chore to have to go back to a previous location in the level just to clarify which key does what. In my opinion it would have been better to just have the instructions pop up on screen. Aside from that good job on the game!

ZombieRunner...Ware by TellusE 2011-05-11T09:35:00

Well done! It would have been nice to have a definite ending seeing as the game seems to keep cycling through items. Grahpics are well done and I loved the intro screen, really funny lol. Plus the background music and particle effects on the babies tears were nicely done.

LD21 — Escape

The Blueprints by recursor 2011-09-01T05:16:00

Very very nice! The sound effects were a treat to listen to and the voiceover well done. It instantly reminded me of Thief 3. The graphics could've been a bit tighter (maybe it's just me but it felt like the maps you drew were a little stretched/blurred). The quality of the intro is excellent and really got my attention, I really liked this entry, great job!

Fuck El Dorado! Let's get the hell outta here!!1 by deps 2011-08-30T09:19:00

Not bad, I'm assuming it's not finished and had you had more time you would've added an end game so I'll focus instead on what was actually there. The blocky graphics worked well for this and the sound effects were appropriate. One annoying problem was the inability to control the caravan as it was in mid-jump (but perhaps that was intentional).

I liked the intro and game-start cutscenes, they added some character to the game (although I never realized that the level had actually begun after the zoom-out at the start, it could've used some sort of a prompt imo). Overall it's well done but needs to be fleshed out some more.

McPixel by Sos 2011-08-25T08:19:00

haha excellent, graphics are great, audio matches them very well. I think it could have followed the theme more closely but beyond that it's real fun to play. Awesome!

Reach For It by Noel Berry 2011-08-30T10:12:00

Very nice, the graphics are great and particle effects complement them. Some audio would have been great because that's just about the only thing missing from this entry, good job!

Bloppo: the great escape by Selkie 2011-08-30T08:34:00

Very nice, the word that comes to mind is harmonious - the music, graphics, and gameplay suite each other well. Although agh my hand! The game is fun to play but you're quickly taken out of that given the frustration of trying to line yourself up with a corridor every two seconds. Aside from that it was very nicely done!

Hotel Escape by pgil 2011-08-30T09:00:00

you sir.., that was masterfully done. The twist was pulled off very well and the sudden realization that your being played is very cool to experience. There's nothing I would love than to give this a perfect score in all categories but unfortunately if I'm gonna be fair then I have to say that the controls could've been a bit tighter. But beyond that wow!, very well done.

Ceaseless by the31 2011-08-25T06:07:00

Very interesting mechanic! Graphics are simple but that feels appropriate aesthetically. The main menu could be a little more user-friendly but beyond that I really enjoyed playing this, nice work adding in a hi-score table too!

Attack Of The Chasers by Benn 2011-08-31T05:48:00

Very nice and innovative concept! I had fun playing that. And yes it can be hard but that's what makes it so rewarding when you beat a level. The graphics could've been a bit more harmonious (the 'X' and 'O' markers don't quite match the rest of the color theme) but that's a very minor thing. Overall very nice!

Effugere -- an escape game by dev_zero 2011-09-04T08:45:00

Hey, for a first LD not bad! Beyond needing more levels and variety of gameplay the distractor mechanic needs some fine-tuning seeing as I was able to finish all three levels without using one. I found the commentary a clever touch, good job!

Beam Runner by Geti 2011-08-23T20:31:00

I fell in love with your pixel art, just amazing (oddly reminded me of the nes castlevania). And the animation was very well done. I can see where you were heading with it and although it wasn't finished it was going in a solid direction. Only critiques would be that it was difficult for me to see a sense of continuity between the screens. Oftentimes it would feel disorienting to have the game cut from one screen to the next without any sense or what your goal or direction was. Beyond that I love it :D

Runner! .. and his problems.. 1.1 by Folis 2011-08-31T06:14:00

Not bad, I liked the art but the gameplay needs more variety than just jumping (perhaps some powerups, different projectiles to dodge, etc.). The music is not bad but could be a little fuller. Overall it was good but just needs to be fleshed out some more.

The Wave by Milo 2011-09-01T05:31:00

Hey real nice, that was actually a gameplay mechanic I have never seen before! The music was appropriate, it was missing some sound effects which would have nicely rounded everything off audibly-speaking. Graphics need to be fleshed out but aside from that I had fun playing this, good job!

Mindbane by LegacyCrono 2011-08-25T06:04:00

Very nice, the pixel art looks great. I enjoyed playing around with the different mechanics, it was refreshing to see a spin put on something so ubiquitous as jumping. One small critique would be perhaps to lower the difficulty but I understand that that could have been an aesthetic choice. Overall a great game!

Huescape by mtthwcmpbll 2011-08-30T08:45:00

That was a clever mechanic! Reminded me a bit of portal/Q.U.B.E/Antichamber albeit too short. The atmosphere was nice but something seemed to be slowing the game down (maybe the noise shader?). I only say this because I've played other unity games on this computer and they were fine but this one lagged a little bit. Aside from that good job!

The Hooks, the Lava and Me by Suyo 2011-09-04T08:59:00

Very cool mechanic! It needs some more comprehensive instructions though; once I figured out how everything worked I was having a blast playing this. While the music did its job by increasing tension, it feels like rock isn't the best choice but that's just my own personal taste. There was one bug I ran into where I got half-stuck in a blue square and was unable to shoot any hooks, aside from that great job!

Real Live Avatars INC by Mikhail Rudoy 2011-08-30T07:51:00

Clever ending :), however it seems the game's controls and physics need some fine-tuning (I got stuck on top of a ramp instead of flying off once). The second level was the one that was most fun: it was fast-paced yet not too challenging, reminded me a bit of the oldschool 2d sonic. The last level was the least entertaining; in my opinion the game works best when it has the same mechanics/setup as the second level. Overall not bad!

I was a teenage Hipster! by 8bitmuse 2011-08-23T11:23:00

I used py2exe to convert these from their original python files, I'll see if it supports Linux as well. Either way I'm hoping to port it to Linux/Mac asap :)

I was a teenage Hipster! by 8bitmuse 2011-08-23T19:36:00

Hey summaky, it's most-likely due to a missing dll, I went through and added any dll's which could be critical. Are you running linux?

I was a teenage Hipster! by 8bitmuse 2011-08-26T05:31:00

Hey foobaz thanks for letting me know, hmm, seems like it can't find the level file, I'll have to take a look.

Tools by Sanguine 2011-08-31T05:38:00

haha oldschool ftw! Given the medium that was well done, although I would have preferred a less 'on rails' experience. Something more along the lines of a mud in terms of being able to walk around, explore, etc. Beyond that nice job!

Mountain above the clouds by trialbyfun 2011-08-30T09:30:00

Haha great! It totally has that nintendo feel without coming off as trying too hard/immature. It instantly reminded me of loco roco - very colourful, friendly and just fun to explore and play.

My only real critique was that the game rules were never explained - I still don't know what made me fall to the ground and die every once in a while. Beyond that excellent art, the transitions could've been tightened a bit (the main character doesn't animate during scene changes and sometimes you can see seems in the levels but that's just me being nitpicky because there's nothing else really for me to critique). This game desperately needs some music, it would round it off really well, good job!

Snake Plissken: Surfin' U.S.A. by vandriver 2011-08-25T06:39:00

Haha that was great! Feels very classic nes in terms of graphics which I love. You did a really good job keeping the game fun although wow was it hard! In terms of critiques I would suggest toning down the difficulty just a bit, beyond that awesome writing and setting.

FuhFuhFire! by Radiatoryang 2011-08-25T07:09:00

Nice!, I can see you put alot of effort into this. I think the atmosphere is great, definitely gets across the idea of claustrophobia and anxiety. My thing with voice acting is that more often than not it detracts from the game unless done well and yours was done well so good job!

My one big critique would be that everything you did could have been done on a level twice as small, by spreading it all out so much (in my opinion) the atmosphere I described above tends to dissipate a bit and isn't as effective. What that did for me, atleast, is not make it as exciting to be running around, putting out fire and getting victims to the exit; I'm sure if the gamefield was smaller it would have been much more tense (just my opinion though).

Overall though great game and innovative concept!

Catastrophic Weekend by markengley 2011-08-31T06:09:00

Very nice artwork! It was satisfying to level up my character, it could have used more fleshing out all around (graphics, gameplay mechanics, the addition of sound) but overall I enjoyed this one, nice!

Office Escape by PaulWagener 2011-08-25T08:41:00

haha nice! very cinematic I enjoyed that. My favorite thing you did was the atmosphere you portrayed throughout. As weird as it is, that reminded me a bit of Beyond Good and Evil for some reason, probably the 3d-sneaking mixed with cinematic elements. As far as critiques go, the graphics could've been more harmonious (that is, I felt that some more lo-fi graphics here would've been an asset) and some sound would've really added to the atmosphere. Plus the jitter on the characters walk cycle could've been reduced to make it smoother, other than that great job!

espace by eimink 2011-08-31T05:10:00

It needs some polish in terms of controls (need to be tighter) and some balancing in terms of difficulty but beyond that not bad!

blue man cthulhu escape by nickd3000 2011-08-31T05:25:00

I liked that Cthulu sprite, it was cute lol! The idea is cool, but it really needs some more fleshed out graphics (the sprites are fine but a background would be nice). Also the black and white checkered floor tile starts to flicker when moving at higher speeds. It could use some more gameplay like different obstacles, different actions the player can do etc. Overall it's going in a good direction but just needs to be more filled out all around.

Ambrose leaves by onzephyr 2011-09-01T05:39:00

I liked playing that, the music could have been fuller (not louder/more busy but just more fleshed out); the graphics were nice and controls were comfortable. I would have added some more variety to the level, different powerups to get, maybe some sort of dodge mechanic - just something to give it more depth. Overall that was enjoyable!

The Copenhagen E. Coli Epidemia by john_coffee 2011-08-31T05:17:00

Funny concept, but I was not sure if I had won or lost the game when I reached the portal, so some clarification in terms of that during gameplay would help. The art is not bad but could use some polish as with the gameplay (it didn't look like the enemies actually deterred me or lowered my health on contact but perhaps I just didn't notice). Beyond that not bad!

You've got the money: Escape by Thomas Pritchard 2011-09-04T08:36:00

It's small but it's clean at the same time, it could do with some more variety graphic and gameplay-wise.

Safari Park Escape by NiallM 2011-08-25T08:03:00

The graphics were well done, I know you didn't finish everything you wanted to but I can see where you were going, that would've been cool :D A critique though was that there wasn't much direction given to the player; when the game started I wasn't sure where it was that I was supposed to go to, etc. I liked the idea of different stats applied to different characters which added some strategy to the mix, good job!
