LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

Don't Go Alone by pgil 2011-05-08T14:33:00

It was cool, I loved the effects, and the music was suitably spooky. The concept was also pretty neat :)

Elidia by brandoncash 2011-05-17T11:03:00

Pretty fun - the upgrades were nice, and the voice gave it an excellent touch :)

Wild Forest by haqu 2011-05-07T09:28:00

As everyone else has said, the art was really really nice - but the gameplay was lacking, and it was quite short... Go learn more actionscript and make this an amazing game! :D

The Legend of Danger Kitten by Daniel X. Moore 2011-05-08T11:20:00

Awesome little game :) Loved the twist at the end - my only quibble is that it was rather short.

Nano Seed by machinas 2011-05-07T09:39:00

It looks and feels as though it good be fun - if just there was something to do!

Torch by alexlarioza 2011-05-20T15:34:00

Fun game! Nice concept, and the graphics were rather sweet too. :)

The Heart is Safe by intmain 2011-05-20T15:21:00

Cool concept, well pulled off too. The jumping animation was awesome :D

"Alone" by natpat 2011-05-02T14:29:00

Woah, that's some high praise there, thanks guys! :D
I didn't have time to do sound or music unfortunately, and the controls are slightly confusing yeah... but thanks :D

"Alone" by natpat 2011-05-02T20:58:00

pgli - damn, I thought I'd fixed the getting stuck in walls glitch.
Thanks again everybody :D

"Alone" by natpat 2011-05-03T22:31:00

Uh, Tellus, I'm pretty sure that's not my game. :L

"Alone" by natpat 2011-05-05T19:23:00

Woah, thank you so much hexygen :) That's made my day ^^

Nitro Racer by stigrv 2011-05-07T09:33:00

It was fun - personally, I'm not one for racing games, but it was a very interesting concept, and well executed too.

Bonifaco's Bazaar by johanp 2011-05-09T21:13:00

Woah, best game I've rated so far. Very innovative, and fun... if only it wasn't too hard for me. :(

Legend of Parasite by Draknek 2011-05-23T19:43:00

Nice idea - although as others have said, the gameplay mechanic was hidden... but it was fun once I'd got it :)

LD21 — Escape

Volcanowned! by Frimkron 2011-08-30T12:48:00

It was really very hard.... and the ending wasn't very rewarding either. But it was fun, in a frustrating way.

Astar by intmain 2011-08-23T19:51:00

This was a very fun game. Nice concept, well executed, and nice music to back it up. I liked the graphics too :)
The difficulty was also well balance, introducing a new concept when I thought I had got everything figured out.
I somehow managed to end with 12/8 coins though... I have an inkling it doesn't take on off when you die after getting a coin?

DRUGSDRUGSDRUGS by natpat 2011-08-22T09:47:00

naxum - Indeed, I was planning on having some sort of 'Combo bonus' for doing that but didn't get around to it. :(

DRUGSDRUGSDRUGS by natpat 2011-08-24T15:41:00

@marudziik - jumping behind the doctors is the way to do it, they can't punch you if they're in the air either, use that to your advantage ;)

Cube Collapse by Martin Fasterholdt 2011-08-30T12:55:00

Nice idea, although I was upset when there were only 2 levels. The difficulty was just right though :)

LD23 — Tiny World

Balance by hadesfury 2012-04-26T22:47:00

I found the controls really frustrating. I'm not sure if I wasn't getting how to control it, but ah well. The graphics were gorgeous though, and running over little people was very fun.

Le Petit by Pixelulsar 2012-04-26T22:08:00

Blimey that was hard. Too hard for me, but I liked the sweet graphics :)

Killer the Ant by Ben 2012-04-26T22:19:00

I really liked the ending. Took me a while to find the nail because I'm dumb though. Good for a first game!

Space Dozer by desmarkie 2012-04-26T22:54:00

I'm awful at it, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. I loved the simplistic graphics!

Under the Glass by dxdydz 2012-04-26T22:37:00

It was nice, but it didn't feel like it got any harder as it went on. I liked the atmosphere of it though, and the music went well with it.

Tiny Tiny World by Manik Sinha 2012-04-26T22:51:00

I really enjoyed it! Nice take on the snake concept, I would have loved more levels or something though.

Cows and Stuff by wademcgillis 2012-04-26T23:12:00

I loved the sound effects. Brilliant.

Revolves by natpat 2012-04-24T00:11:00

Thanks guys, real life got in the way unfortunately. As I said, hopefully I'll add to it and finish it soon, I really like the concept.

Nano Spin by bitbof 2012-04-24T22:18:00

I liked it! Cool concept and the simple artwork works as it is.

Demon Hunter by Rocknlol 2012-04-26T22:42:00

Fast paced little game - most of my comments are the same as the rest, the HUD was very small and there was no way of knowing when you were being hit. The concept is nice though!

LD28 — You Only Get One

The Social Avarice of an Adult Mayfly by Several 2013-12-18T01:20:00

There was a lot to take in, and I'm not sure I got it all. But it was fun, and nice to try and plan your outfit and gifts to please everyone.

Who cares YOGO? by bukt 2014-01-07T01:22:00

Pretty damn good game. Loved the visual style, but sometimes I thought that items had a bit too much friction and were balancing in really unbelievable positions. But other than that great job!

Objective by bradleypollard 2013-12-18T01:11:00

Driving the car was fun, but I never managed to get round a corner without hitting into a wall. And it was hard to tell which buildings I could drive thorough as well - but all in all it was fun!

Granny Loosetooth and the Toothfairies by KayZ 2014-01-05T20:39:00

Definitely interesting, and made me think. I enjoyed the story, but I would have liked for the food to stay where you had placed it after a reset.

You only get one arrow by tobbez 2013-12-20T16:48:00

I enjoyed the progression - the platforming elements were challenging and fun. However the boss was really hard, and I couldn't restart afterwards either.

1 Minute Capsule by jfroco 2013-12-18T01:15:00

That was really good fun. Would have liked more levels, but i enjoyed the music and the graphics worked, as simple as they were.

Ninja Theif by Turkey 2013-12-20T16:26:00

Nice use of the theme - although it stopped after 3 rounds for me and I got a bugged screen with some guards with no lights.

One Pixel Games by plancien 2013-12-20T16:18:00

Very clever use of the theme, and the games were fun too. C definitely took me the longest to figure out, but I got there in the end.

Follow your skill by Jordo76 2013-12-20T16:38:00

The concept is great, but I found playing it infuriating. If the platforming physics had been a bit more solid it would have been great.

In a maze with one by okmmjyygv 2013-12-20T16:43:00

I never found an exit... I'm not sure if that's because I suck or just because I got hard mazes.

-- deleted -- by lesspix 2013-12-17T19:27:00

Fun little platformer and clever use of the theme. The block that you could fall through felt a bit mean, but I loved the two disguised as a one.

Mr.Rect by Mindtricks 2013-12-20T16:12:00

The idea was there! \The few levels you did have were humorous and worked well. And congrats, you finished something!

One Coffin by Dikkop 2013-12-20T15:42:00

Took me a few tries not to die instantly but I eventually got it though - I died looking for some brown trousers, I could never find any! Loved the graphics and music.

Golden Hamster by SUNFURY 2014-01-06T23:09:00

The graphics were great. Reading through the comments I see you can jump high which I didn't know, a little intro page would have been helpful too. But overall good job.

Eternal Champion by gavrilovmiroslav 2014-01-05T20:22:00

As others have said, it seems quite luck based rather than skill - some seemed quite impossible not to die as well!

The Hallowed Orb by ekun 2014-01-05T20:32:00

That was really good fun. It feels like one of those games that's really easy to pick up but hard to master. Very well done.

Unicycle Messenger by Sanguine 2013-12-20T16:01:00

Once I got a grip on the quirky camera and the controls, this game became a joy to play. Managing to get from one building to another, smoothly gliding round corners whilst avoiding the pesky cars and buildings - that was fun. If the building collision had been improved it would have been perfect.

Ballkeeper by cappelnord 2013-12-19T15:38:00

That was really good fun. I got a bit conufsed about when the ball was going up and when it was going down, but I got it figured out eventually.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Autoexec by reheated 2020-04-30T17:59:30Z

I thought this was one of the best games I've played so far this LD! I really liked the core idea, planning out and considering which upgrades to take and which would work well together. I liked the mana system, it added another good layer on top - the ghost ships were a cool idea as well! I died a few times on the way to the boss - I thought there were some interesting spikes in difficulty, I think some time in the third wave was the hardest spot, when both the ghosts and the main ships were on screen at once. I thought the ghost ships could have been a bit more obvious - I could sometimes barely tell which was which. I got to the boss twice, but I didn't manage to kill it sadly. I enjoyed the game though, great work for the 48 hours!

Displacement by ryannielson 2020-04-27T20:38:22Z

You've really polished this! Slight wobble making the game feel dynamic, slightly diegetic UI, simple but effective graphics and fitting music and sound effects. It didn't fit the theme at all, which is disappointing. I finished it, and it made me think, but overall, I felt it was lacking as a puzzle game. I feel like the best puzzle games have two things: a great "a-ha!" moment, when everything clicks into place, and satisfying execution of that plan. I don't feel like this game hit either of those. I never felt like I was creating a plan - I felt like I was moving blocks around until they were in a shape I could see the solution from, and the controls were slightly frustrating (no undo, Q/E getting mixed up), meaning I felt relived more than satisfied when I finished a puzzle. The turn counter is an interesting way to try and counter "bumbling" to a goal, but I think the space of the game is too large to work out a solution exactly and therefore how many turns a solution will take, so you end up executing it anyway and praying you have enough turns. The lack of undo makes it more frustrating, as a wrong use of Q or E means you lose two turns, and might have to start again from the beginning. The last level was the most interesting - working out how to manoeuvre around a tight space, with blocks in your way, and only a few places to move them. I think you could either - remove the turn counter, make the levels big and confusing, and let players fiddle around until they manage to puzzle things out. Enjoyment there could come from progressing through the large level, and making small incremental gains - or, make the levels smaller, tighter, and have a "perfect" solution that is the only one allowed by the turn counter. That way, the enjoyment is working out exactly which way to solve the puzzle. An undo button would also work wonders - there's nothing fun about messing up late into a solution because you hit the wrong key and having to restart.

Sorry for the long post, and I hope it's not too critical!

Vote Jack! by kfischer-okarin 2020-04-25T17:03:18Z

I enjoyed that! I enjoyed the slight tension when you zoomed in on a person and not being about to see the rest of the building. I later found it was easier just to stay zoomed out and you could tell when the people were pulling a gun out, which removed some of the fun. The music adds a good amount of tension, and a good take on the theme!

Trail Mix by Michael Gosling 2020-04-26T19:55:06Z

Interesting start! I think you had a good concept, shame it couldn't have got further!

GhostVac by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2020-05-02T20:40:53Z

That was fantastic! A really unique, fun little LD game. It was so much like playing a real arcade game - the attention to detail is fantastic! A few things really stood out to me: - the LED display - so good! The scrolling title screen, the messages when you get a ghost in, the "boss" - such a great addition. - the reflections - they made the game board just pop so much! - the sound effects - the vacuuming sound and the other various shunting and movement sounds were so appropriate and so well used.

The gameplay itself was also fun - lining up shots felt great, and if you missed you really felt the "just a little to the left next time" feeling. The sucking of the ghosts was a little random and felt a little unfair sometimes that the ghost would just fly away, but it's a minor nit. I loved the two modes - the first mode felt like it was teaching you and easing you in - then the "boss" comes and ramps up the difficulty. Great stuff. I'm just sad it's so short - I want more modes, more bosses, more time playing! The polish was great - seeing the ghosts floating around in the back instead of just disappearing was such a neat little touch. This would have got almost perfect scores from me - the lack of connection to the theme is slightly sad, and maybe some music would have really finished the atmosphere. In any case, really great job!

it lives and grows by JulianMH 2020-05-02T22:10:20Z

I'm really glad I played this - the game I helped make was also a plant growning/tending game, so it's really interesting to see how others implemented it. I really love how your plants look and grow - the leaves swaying, growing up and sprouting new leaves - it's really great to watch. Having a few different plants to grow and different ways to take care of them was fun. I liked having to puzzle out how make money most efficiently and how to grow the star tree correctly! The sound effects and music were extremely fitting and worked very well with the game. Great entry!

Tyson Lee: KEEP IT ALIVE EDITION by CPTN-B 2020-04-29T22:19:20Z

A really original take on the theme! Levels 1 to 3 were fun, but I think the difficulty spiked in Level 4 (and the given solution didn't seem to work for me, the NOR gates starting flickering on and off... Great work overall though, I love these kind of puzzle games! I do wonder if it could have had a slower ramp up, or more of a tutorial for people who aren't familiar with logic gates - I think Level 3 was "can you remember how to make an RS latch?".

Retrospective Sparks by kikiriki367 2020-04-23T18:39:40Z

An interesting submission! Having the player answer a question to continue is interesting, and really ensures they understand what's happening in the story. The progression was nice, and finding out more of the backstory throughout the game kept me playing until the end. The overlapping text wasn't great - I thought it was a bug and reset the game a few times to try and get rid of it.

Support Class by SamuelDeboni 2020-04-22T21:05:25Z

Fun game! I enjoyed the blend of real time and turn based. Interesting take on the theme as well. As others have said, it would have been good to see the enemies health, as well as maybe the exact number of your and your partner's health.

Plant Life by HEXIEZ123 2020-04-26T19:50:49Z

That's tough! I echo what Yorsh said, it feels like new mechanics are introduced at just the right time, so well done with that! One thing that threw me was that I felt like the A+D keys should have been swapped around - I was always doing the wrong thing with the watering can. I appreciated the visuals too - simple but effective, and pleasant to look at. As others have said, music and sound effects would really elevate this game.

Brainstorm by Shakedimus 2020-04-27T22:18:49Z

Interesting idea! I didn't see much pulling of words together though. Maybe I'm just bad at associations...

Orbital Stations by Rafa Braga 2020-04-23T22:16:28Z

An interesting game! I think it's a great start - maybe with a few more landmarks you can see (maybe further away, so they scroll slower so you have a chance to see them for longer) and a bit more exposition through text and this could be good! :) I liked the music, really contributed to the mood.

Dying Plant by Shubh 2020-04-26T20:00:01Z

Good take on the theme, and a promising start. The music was chirpy and fit the game - would have been good if it was slightly longer! A score, and maybe a fail state if the player gets it wrong too long would be good first steps to improving.

Lights Out by Chance Slaughter 2020-04-27T22:05:01Z

Solid game! The shooting felt good, with large bullets and satisfying sound effects. The graphics, while simple, worked well - I liked the lighting, from the bullets and enemies. I think the upgrade system could do with a few changes - I think it's a lot funner when you get to buy a lot of upgrades and make a lot of choices, even if those upgrades were small. In this game, I didn't have that much money and the upgrades were expensive, meaning I didn't get to spend a lot. I never had to make the fun choice between a small, cheap upgrade that might make me survive the next round easier, or to save up, hope I make it through the next wave and buy a bigger upgrade later. The game even told me to upgrade my damage at one point, which was all I felt like I had been doing! Movement could have been polished a little too, it was easy to get stuck on things. Good job overall though, a solid Jam game!

The Given Path by Jvdwijk 2020-04-22T20:53:46Z

The movement system was interesting, if it was polished it would make an interesting game - drawing and planning a path and then executing it at the perfect time. I liked the music!

Signal Fire On Mystery Island by linluk 2020-04-29T17:16:44Z

Nice take on the theme! I was expecting a Minit style game where you had to get as much done as possible before having to race back to the fire to add some more sticks, but the fire ticks down slowly enough that I added 2 sticks and then went and finished the rest of the game. It's a nice idea though!

Flamebearer by HolySparks 2020-04-22T21:18:56Z

Solid platformer! I enjoyed the pixely graphics. The movement and combat could do with being a bit tighter. Having sound effects for all the actions made it feel more engaging. Good work on your first game jam!

Vestige by BitPokit 2020-04-27T21:37:43Z

Simple and polished! The story went a long way to making it feel complete. The music fit well too. Having to charge in with your shield to attack is an interesting concept, and leads to some fun gamplay! I felt the controls were a bit too floaty - I fell off the platform more times than I died, and it was frustrating to start again from the beginning.

Oblivious Olivia by daichifob 2020-05-02T21:54:30Z

Really cute little game! I got 122. I loved the pixel-y monsters. The music and sound effects were spot on, and really added to the game. I think the gameplay is a really good concept - however, I found out pretty early on that spamming the waves and lightning made the game fairly easy and the best strategy was just to spam click everywhere as quickly as possible. It was a fun experience, but I wonder whether a cooldown or similar could help the game be a bit more difficult and enjoyable. Great entry!

I can quit by Plundre 2020-04-29T22:30:53Z

The concept is fun, coffee is definitely keeping me alive sometimes. Some of the jokes were quite funny (licking a brick), but I couldn't find an ending. Maybe I wasn't clicking on the right things, but I always ran out of coffee.

Lettuce Be Friends by YaakGold 2020-04-22T22:14:01Z

There's a lot of complexity in this game. Once I realised it was a puzzle to work out what food I could feed the slime, it was fun. Simplifying the puzzle could have been better, as the weights of each of the attributes was a little confusing. Really innovative though!

Keep Me Alive by Texz 2020-04-22T21:12:57Z

you got me lol

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Chicken & Ducklings by Atikyne 2020-10-27T19:50:13Z

Cool concept! Took me a few tries to complete. Would have been awesome with graphics, sound effects and a few more levels!

Cannon 24/7 by Igor KinGamer 2020-10-13T19:57:30Z

Nice little prototype! Pretty simple, but a cool idea you had, and a nice take on the theme.

Legendary Orbit Golf by pschichtel 2020-10-07T16:55:07Z

Cool idea! I found the controls pretty finicky, and it was pretty frustrating to charge headfirst into a planet after a few jumps done successfully and having to restart from the beginning. Some simpler levels to get your feet wet and a better control scheme could make this fun!

Bad Panda vs The Cursed Maze by Pandakipu 2020-10-11T19:36:22Z

Love pico8! Fun little concept, I liked how complete it felt even though it was so simple. Nice (if a little repetitive) music, nice bit of polish on the corpses - so good job even if it is just a little memory game!

Soulbound by benjamin 2020-10-21T22:06:09Z

That was a game of highs and lows! The graphics and polish was incredible - I'm amazed you managed to do all of that in PICO-8 in 48 hours! The single colour tiles really made it pop, and the character was expressive and animated really well. The story is fun too. Really clever use of the theme, and it led to some very tough puzzles!

However, I think that's my main gripe - the puzzles were incredibly hard! Combined with the frustrating death mechanics and some slightly janky platforming, it made each attempt a bit of a pain, rather than having the fun of finally working out the solution.

Each of the puzzles seemed like they had a little bit too much going on. I had to refer to the walkthrough for almost every single one - and it still took me around an hour to complete (which to be honest, is really impressive for a LD game). For instance,

!> the puzzle to unlock the door using the patterns/levers had 1) a puzzle to get to the "possible patterns" 2) a puzzle to work out which patterns to use 3) a puzzle to work out how to input the patterns - and on top of all of that, enemies you had to deal with every time you wanted to have a punt at a solution. It was a bit much, and as you had to get all three parts before the solution was accepted, it made you question which parts you had understood and which parts you hadn't.

That being said, I'm attacking what is really a very very impressive game for a Ludum Dare. It really is an incredibly good job, that's oozing with charm and polish.

Colorful Memories by Ayxs 2020-10-07T17:12:00Z

Nice little experience. The little story beats were nice and I liked how it affected the world. The idea of a looping world is cool, and the implementation is good. I'm not entirely sure how or why it connects to the rest of the game though!

Beet Roots by cogcomp 2020-10-11T15:49:46Z

Cool idea! The camera controls were a bit janky, would have been really nice to have a bigger game window and the ability to zoom in and out. I liked the graphics, reminded me of The Incredible Machine: Contraptions!

Crystal Racer by hunttis 2020-10-19T16:37:00Z

Interesting concept! Nice blend of puzzle (trying to work out the best route) and execution. I tried a few of the levels multiple times to get good scores. A button to reset when you know you messed up would be a good idea. Perhaps also being a little more forgiving on the button press (coyote time!) would have made it slightly less frustrating.

Stuck in Orbit by thedarkmagi 2020-10-22T16:41:35Z

Nice little shooter! The concept was neat, especially the take on the theme. Some polish could go a long way here though - making the enemies/bullets bigger and easier to spot, making your bullets faster, some more feedback when you hit things/get hit.

Not Enough by Toccio94 2020-10-22T17:04:20Z

Well that was an experience!

The gameplay itself was simple but solid - the character controlled very well, and made the tight action sections fun. The rest of the game... well it was definitely enough for me! Very creepy and an interesting take on the theme!

Pico Arena by scottgoldsmith 2020-10-21T20:59:57Z

Cool little entry for the time you spent on it! The combat felt a but clunky at times - was hard to tell why I was or wasn't hit/getting hit. Nice job getting something in though!

The Loop by thesnide 2020-10-22T16:25:42Z

A fun little idea, and impressive for three hours! I managed to win, but potentially more by luck than anything else!

Super Jump Guy by F1Krazy 2020-10-12T13:09:13Z

Another pico8 game! The graphics are really nice given the limitations, and I really enjoyed the music and SFX. Seemed nice and polished (I like the score pop ups). The game itself was nice, if a little short, but it got the theme across. Nice job!

Flying Saucer Scramble by Reef 2020-10-21T19:47:20Z

Nice little game! The idea was cool - weirdly reminded me a bit of Pokemon Ranger. The sound effects were nice - some background music would have rounded it off nicely.

DUƎL by JLV 2020-10-13T20:55:25Z

Fun idea! Trapping an enemy in a triangle could make for some fun gaming. The proof of concept here is good, but the boss was a bit unforgiving and difficult. I managed to beat it by spamming space like you suggested!

The Machine in the Woods by digital bacon 2020-10-07T16:48:26Z

Interesting concept! As you mentioned, it would be nice fleshed out a bit more, with some more gameplay elements and animation/sfx. Great work getting something done though!

Stucker by Animaster 2020-10-11T20:55:47Z

Damn! That was genuinely one of the best games I've played during this jam. The core gameplay loop is really nice, and it's a really cool take on the theme. The graphics were simple but effective, so good job on that. I would definitely play this if you fleshed it out with more gameplay and more features. Currently, I only have a couple of gripes:

- I didn't realise at the beginning that there were even more islands and that I'd get more bots on them for cheap. I spent a fair whack of boring time making bots at the beginning. I realise this is mainly due to my own stupidity, but it would be nice if this was impossible - like maybe if it was impossible to buy bots until later (if maybe the buildings unlocked in a certain sequence or something). - There was no middle ground between "automating all the resources once" and "get enough for a rocket". I got everything automated, but nothing really pushed me to add more buildings and robots and not just wait for enough resources to be gathered. - Having to close the shop to do various things (mainly program robots) was a bit annoying. I didn't see much reason why it couldn't just be open all the time!

These are all fairly small issues and likely due to the time constraints and could defintely be ironed out. Nice job!

The Watchmaker by Frank Gevaerts 2020-10-18T14:55:58Z

Nice job! I got the bad ending and the short ending, but couldn't figure out the "good" ending. I had to peek at the solution, and there was just one thing I was missing sadly!

!> didn't think to "force" the lever (even though it was suggested!) I even tried to jam the cogs and escapement with the knife, but to no avail.

I liked the setting and use of the theme. Very solid text adventure!

THE INNER CIRCLE by backurio 2020-10-13T20:08:03Z

Nice game! The models and game space is impressive given the time. I liked the music and the main menu too. Voice acting isn't something you normally see in LD games either, so that's cool!

I found it quite difficult to work out what to do, or how I was supposed to achieve it. The detection felt a bit unforgiving too - a couple of times I thought I would make it out of the detection zone in time but got stopped in my tracks.

Soundcloud The Concert: The Game by beats 2020-10-08T15:58:59Z

Fun idea! I found it very hard to hit the guy in time when the sparks were showing, and ended up dying a bunch. Would have liked to hear more of the song though!

Good Morning, Beautiful World by Miyolophone 2020-10-14T20:38:36Z

That was a lot of fun! The humour was quirky and really drove the story. I enjoyed the feeling of progression each loop with the extra "knowledge" you gain. The engine itself was pretty cool, with the text effects and portraits.

Towards the end it got a bit less game-y and a bit more of a "story" - could have been nice to have a bit more gameplay. In any case, nice job!

Line of Attack by dans17 2020-10-13T20:15:31Z

Wow! Really interesting take on the theme. Not just drawing the loop, but ensuring your timing was right made sure the game was fun. The music really complemented the game. I really liked the door physics too, nice bit of polish.

I think the sensitivity of the loop drawing could be tweaked a bit, I never felt like I was really in control of the loop drawing. Damaging the player for successfully taking out an enemy (from the front) seemed overly punishing, especially when dying meant starting the level from the beginning.

Nice job!

Swop by igaryhe 2020-10-22T17:36:44Z

A really interesting little puzzle game! Properly mind bending at times - I'm really thankful there's an undo button! I feel like I brute forced my way through a lot of the puzzles - I can't imagine what designing them was like! I enjoyed the music too - simple, but effective, and it's always nice to have some BGM. Some extra polish would have made it sparkle - but it's a really solid base.

For { } by SoupStoreGames 2020-10-22T16:10:04Z

That was a tricky little puzzle game! Really interesting little premise, and I loved the features that kept being added. The puzzles got hard! I managed to get to level 23 but couldn't do that or level 24! The teleports especially made puzzles a bit hard to understand and predict, and I had to play through levels a few times before groking exactly what would happen to what. The lasers were a new feature I was not expecting, and I thought they added a lot to the puzzles! The sound effects were nice, but got a little bit grating after a while. Really nice puzzle game though, with an impressive amount of levels!

Crocodial by David-Liddelow 2020-10-06T16:28:45Z

What a take on the theme! I love the story and character. The gameplay is very different and interesting - trying to work out where to put your spells at the beginning and then just rolling down the mountain trying to pick up health as you go faster and faster.

I will say that there was a lot of things going on - at some point I stopped looking at my spell wheel and just hoped that what I picked up would upgrade my current spells, which seemed to work. Later on, I found myself ignoring the enemies entirely and just picking up health, as I couldn't really focus on much else! I sadly never got to the end in three attempts - too much happening for me!

The music was very fitting and I enjoyed it a lot. The sound effects fit well and helped make everything pop. Nice job!

(I managed to get it to work on Linux - this series of commands worked for me: ``` sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bartbes/love-stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install love love [downloaded .love file] ``` )

Stuck in the Sewers by BoneVolt 2020-10-22T14:59:50Z

A great little game! Started out very simple but built and built until I was thoroughly scratching my head. Managed to get 100 coins and get to the beach though! Really nice music and sound effects too. The last couple of levels got a bit crazy and I spent a lot of the time trying random pipes until there was only one or two more coins left, and then trying to work out where to go. Nice work though! Can't imagine how difficult it was to design the later levels!

Breadcrumbs by FudgeFiddle 2020-10-21T22:42:46Z

A little spooky! It was very difficult to find my way out the maze, so I admit - I cheated, and looked at your code to figure out the solution. When I did, the ending was really nice - spooky! Great job with the mood.

Domain of the Time Wizard by BookerBlueJay 2020-10-21T20:56:53Z

Really great little compo game! I had a lot of fun finding the three orbs - I must have fought the boss 4 or 5 times. The controls felt very polished and fluid, and the polish was really nice too. The dungeon really felt like a maze and I had to concentrate (in a fun way!) to find the solution. Great job!

Orbitrary by Aimainiac 2020-10-22T16:21:27Z

A fun little game stuffed full of ideas! Really cool premise, I liked how the game built with more and more things to avoid. I have to admit - I was absolutely awful at it, and couldn't get the controls at all. I think I would have preferred a button press to move between orbits, rather than holding one down for a specific orbit - but maybe that's just personal preference! I thought the hit detection could be a little mean at times - there were times were I was sure I'd gone through a ring but the game didn't give it to me. Made me feel like I sucked at the game - a more forgiving hit detection could lead a more positive feeling!

office-hours by jonah 2020-10-23T15:08:32Z

What a whacky little game! The characters were tiny but fun, and the various events that could trigger ranged from funny to absurd. I'm glad you added some hints because I got very stuck trying to find the other two endings, but enjoyed the twist when I did. The music was nice too. Good work!

11:59 Pm by Mardood 2020-10-13T20:51:13Z

1159.PNG

Once I'd checked out the help, this was actually very fun! The graphics were awful but awesome at the same time, and the music and sfx added that je ne sais quoi. The difficultly could have ramped up a bit quicker I think, and perhaps more items that didn't use a beer mug - but it was fun while it lasted. Nice job!

Dr. Needles and the Nightclub by funemaker 2020-10-07T17:28:23Z

Weirdly, I couldn't get it to run. I tried both downloads, with and without JRE, and neither did anything when I double clicked the exe.

The Myth of Sisyphus by Zuvr 2020-10-18T15:17:19Z

Nice job! I enjoyed that potentially more than I should have - I think the music and narration/text really made it feel complete. I liked the twist ending too :D The controls were a little clunky and janky at times, but I thought the general idea and struggle of getting the boulder uphill was well done. The crows didn't do a lot but did add to the suspense a little bit. The player animation when walking and throwing the boulder was nice too.

Bloop by Harmadillo 2020-10-13T19:55:04Z

I was happily surprised by how much I enjoyed those puzzles! They required a bit of thought but were all doable. I would have enjoyed more! The sound effects worked well, even if they were simple. Having a reset button and a slightly better way of selecting the pieces (without having to press esc) would have been improvements. Nice job though!

Swing-by by HIKO_game 2020-10-22T17:28:46Z

A really innovative idea! One I'd got the hang of the controls, it really did feel like I was trying my best to fly away from the centre of some horrible explosion. Orbiting around, trying to catch up speed, wondering when the explosion will catch up! The "slow-mo" button really helped, and once I worked out how to use it the game was good fun. Nice job!

Doodle-Oop! by Hank Ather 2020-10-08T14:59:09Z

Nice job! I really liked the art style. A cool idea for a game, the idea of changing the loop is cool, but in practice I didn't really used it and just moved around. The music was nice and really added to the theme. Good job!

Mines of Movania by Demure 2020-10-21T22:34:13Z

A really cool premise! Fun blend of puzzle and "action" game. I didn't manage to finish all the levels, I got stuck on the one where there were two minecarts on the track which split in loads of different directions. A nice take on the theme, and some really nice polish, especially with some nice particles and "lighting". The controls were a little frustrating sometimes - in high stress moments having to move a tile out of the way before placing a new one was annoying - maybe the old tile could move somewhere nearby?

In any case, nice job!

Meltdown by Jetyh 2020-10-07T17:32:51Z

Would really benefit from a tutorial or more explanation - I lost a few times and had no idea what I was doing!

Disco Loop by DotSquare 2020-10-22T16:50:38Z

A really fun idea! I loved the disco graphics and the dancing character. I found the timings of the movement super difficult and as the levels were so tight on moves it got a bit frustrating. Good job though!

Looping DefDrone 47 by Eddi_Mitchoum 2020-10-08T15:39:13Z

Nice job getting something done! A little bit simple, but the starts of something nice are there. I liked the explosions when you hit the asteroids. Some more things like a scoring system or some more complexity to the bullets or shooting could have been cool next steps too!

Red Venom by extar 2020-10-22T16:35:57Z

Cute little shooter! I really liked some of the polish - the ship exhaust and shooting is a really cool effect! I think I got all the story - it's a fun little twist! Shame you left the translator at 1 - you could probably fix that and it would be okay within Compo rules! Still, nice work!

Constituent by Thomas Carey 2020-10-07T16:41:46Z

Cool take on the theme! The sfx and narrator were good - I thought the graphics were a bit simple and a bit hard to read sometimes, especially the red robots on the red cube.

Dungeon Escape by Thorn 2020-10-13T19:48:32Z

Nice job! The game is quite simple, but feels pretty finished - main menu and highscore are nice features. Having a bit more responsiveness on the jump would have made the game feel nicer, and more enemy types and obstacles would have made it even better.

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-08T16:25:50Z

Interesting idea! I loved the humour and the silliness, and the piano music was lovely too. Nice to see some text based adventures in LD!

Loopy Treasure by GamingChef 2020-10-08T15:49:45Z

A little bit rough around the edges but a cool idea! Would be nice if everything felt a bit more cohesive, rather than random squares and sprites.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Manic Miner by ryannielson 2021-04-27T14:57:48Z

Love to see more PICO8 games! I enjoyed the pacing of the game and the two mechanics worked well together. Could have been nice to have more various features as you went down, like a completely solid block or a powerup that makes you dig faster for a bit. It did seem to get impossible right towards the bottom, as well. manic miner.PNG

Malleus Pistrium by piscythe 2021-05-15T09:13:40Z

Cool little boss battle! I liked the variety and clear telegraphing of attacks. The shark was fun too. The battle in general felt a little long, perhaps some extra attacks or way of damaging the boss during his attacks would make it better, to reward skillful players. The jumping was a bit odd too - non-responsive controls are often tricky to pull off and I think in a boss battle like this you need tight controls to make it feel fun and fair. Nice entry though!

A Deep Frame of Mind by Space_man 2021-05-15T09:28:48Z

A really interesting experience and take on the theme! The pictures were really nicely done, and the music really contributed to the mood. I'm not sure I'm convinced by the secrets - especially as you only get really one shot to do them, and you can easily mess them up. Perhaps not revealing that there are secrets at all (and not counting them) would be better, and just reward players who stumble upon them. Really nice to see a very different entry though!

Journey for the Records of Remembrance by jasontherand 2021-04-27T15:52:34Z

Neat little entry! The premise was fun, having some reason for why you're out there finding the probe (even if it is copyright(!)) is great, it really grounds the game. The upgrades were good, from the heat shield to the faster movement. I thought the "ping" was also just a cool feature - having the planets come back in time with how far away they are was clever.

My only small bit of feedback is that it was sometimes hard to see the direction of the planet/probe through the UI. Just a small annoyance!

Really nice job though. The music really fit, flying through the stars to the last probe whilst jamming out was sweet.

Beebook - Beat the Feed by Beebo Studios 2021-04-27T10:52:01Z

I get an error while trying to run the Mac version: '“Beebook - Beat the Feed” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.' Not sure if it's an issue my end or yours. Will play again when I am on my Windows PC but just thought I should say as an FYI!

Beebook - Beat the Feed by Beebo Studios 2021-04-27T14:32:30Z

That was great! The dynamic music (at least, it seemed dynamic) was really awesome, super impressed by what you've done there. There were so many "beeb"s, which was very impressive - I'm just sad I didn't get to read many!

Would have been nice to have a few more adverts, but as they're all animated very cleanly I can see why that would be tough. A little bit of feedback that you hit the button right would be good - I saw that the adverts animate, but I was often looking at the arrow keys on the side and not the advert.

The scrolling and feedback from the music was all super enticing too. It kept me playing for ages! The game did just seem to stop at some point though - I thought I had battery left, but maybe I ran out.

Implosion by Caveman54 2021-05-05T20:05:31Z

A really neat puzzle game! Some really interesting mechanics and good exploration of the mechanics. The music and graphics hit the theme you seemed to be going for, so good work on that.

The controls felt pretty clunky at times, though. The robots moved pretty slowly, and having to watch all the layers move before you could make your next move got a bit old, especially when you knew what to do and just had to execute it. I think you also have some issues at the resolution you weren't developing at, which led to some strange animations.

Overall though, it's a really great concept and production! Great work!

Will and Testament by johanhelsing 2021-04-27T19:41:52Z

What a sweet little experience! The digging was really well done, with the earth feeling very realistic and actually quite tactile to dig. I liked the simple art and soundscape. Even if there's not much of a game, it's a pretty impressive experience. Once small thing is that on the last level I got a bit stuck as I dug straight down and then couldn't get back out or dig up, or restart the level, and my earth wouldn't be flung high enough to get out the hole. Still, great job overall!

FALL GUY by matthewrobo 2021-05-15T10:02:01Z

fallguy.PNG

That was fun! Good mix of mechanics and really tight levels. Some of them were really really frustrating - not having any indication of where your jump would end up made it very difficult, but perhaps I just needed to get good. Really fun little game!

Deep Space Beat by Srynetix 2021-04-29T18:05:25Z

Nice! The graphics are really sweet, especially how they react to the music. The music also fit really well and dragged me in further. There was some nice polish too, with the fun text when you finished. Would have liked a few more things to do (upgrades, different enemies), but it's a impressive entry for a first 3D game!

The Undergroundies by Wbertrand 2021-04-27T16:05:42Z

Nice entry! I appreciated the story, the Above-Grounders being scared of the Undergroundies was good setting (and I was scared of the Undergroundies after a while as well!). Some of the moments were tense, I enjoyed the traps you set. I got stuck in a hole at some point though and couldn't continue!

Industrial nightmare by Megastrons 2021-04-27T14:41:39Z

Fun little game! You can see the creativity you put into the sprites and the backgrounds. The controls were actually pretty tight, which was nice - I didn't feel like I was slipping around or that I couldn't make any jumps. The SFX were nice too, added a bit of polish.

A couple of things could be improved - the text was hard to read, and a little more connection to the theme could have been nice.

Nice entry!

The Fault by CATANYAW 2021-05-15T08:57:55Z

An interesting little game! I liked how the story slowly unfolded with a drip feeding of narrative. The walking was quite slow and the puzzle to turn the light switch on felt frustrating. The music was good and fit the mood though!

Colors of the Universe by Itooh 2021-04-27T11:10:16Z

A very interesting idea! I liked literally going deeper and deeper into this world. I found trying to solve the puzzles really challenging, especially with all the instruments changing - I found it very hard to compare the pitches. Plus you start zooming in as soon as you check what the note sounds like, which made it hard to compare to check if you got the right one. I managed to collect one star, not sure how many more there were.

Still, the mood was good, which I think is what you were really going for. Just sad that I couldn't complete it!

LD49 — Unstable

Strong and Stable by natpat 2021-10-04T10:18:30Z

@untitled-studios I knew the joke was fairly niche so wasn't expecting everyone to understand! Glad you enjoyed it anyway!

@richard-baron Thanks so much! You're definitely right that the "game feel" is a bit lacking. Would have loved more time to get it right.

@bluemaus hahahahaha the resemblance is definitely there! My pixel art skills are still wanting

Strong and Stable by natpat 2021-10-05T16:29:24Z

@lucas-thomaz thanks! I'm glad you found it funny :)

@grizeldi I thought that might be a problem for some people, but glad it was good if a little absurd!

@barrier I'm glad you found the "pro-strats"!

@peace-of-cake-games Thanks for sharing your time! I've added you to the leaderboard. I think the cheesing is fine - if you figure it out, you can abuse it! All good ;)

@icedjam The dance is my favourite part as well!

@guntrip Thanks for coming back and playing it and the kind words :)

@deprecat Thanks for the feedback, and I think you're 100% right. Better movement and game feel was high on my list of things to do, but I prioritised the attacks and humour over it. Given a bit more time I would have loved to make it feel better to play, as you're right that it's not as good as it could be!

@varundevs Thanks! I agree - a blue background isn't very interesting.

@jonah That's all I wanted - the game to be a joke :D

@vectrex28 Wow, that's a great time! You're top of the leaderboard. Early videogame boss fights was exactly the kind of feel I was trying to replicate!

Un-Star-ble by Raivk 2021-10-04T16:03:42Z

Great visuals and music, it really creates a fun little toy to play around with. I wish there was a tiny bit more control - it's fun to fly around randomly but being able to plan a bit more where you'd like to go would be nice. I liked the random array of things to find - I only found a few though.

Click Click Click Click BOOM!

Drillte by Yokin 2021-10-07T13:45:29Z

A really nice entry! The idea is really great, and the core arcade-y loop is quite addictive. All of the mechanics work great - the flying, the drilling and the dragging are all well executed. I found some of the controls to be a bit finickity at times, especially when dragging larger rocks - I thought the rope was just a little bit too bouncy - instead of just slowing you down it flung you all over the place. Having some way of knowing where asteroids are would be nice as well, I felt a few games I just lost because I couldn't find any green asteroids, which felt like no fault of my own. Overall though, a really really good entry - the graphics and music really fit the feeling!

4D Jenga by Tesseract 2021-10-07T13:35:33Z

What an innovative idea! I agree, my brain is definitely too smooth to properly figure out what's going on, but it's an interesting, mind bending idea. The visualisations maybe could have been clearer (a wider array of different colours so you can match up blocks easier, as well as maybe some depth in the 2d view?).

WackyJet by Anshul K 2021-10-04T16:16:45Z

Nice idea! The ship was definitely unstable. I liked the story as well! I think there are a few things you could improve. Firstly, getting the fuel before you can start flying the ship every time gets a little bit boring. If you restarted to when you take off in the plane, that would make it nicer after you fail. I also think the rocket ship should accelerate quicker - it's very hard to avoid the asteroids. I know the ship is supposed to be unstable - but it could be unstable in less frustrating ways! The cyan stars showing you where to go were a nice touch. I made it to Earth eventually!

Inferis Project by v0idpointer 2021-10-16T11:29:50Z

Nice story and entry! I liked the take on the theme. Very impressive considering you did everything from scratch. I thought the nullmen moved a bit too fast, I died from them twice without even realising!

GLASSCANNON by Michael Grieshofer 2021-10-16T12:06:33Z

That was a really cool idea! The balance of attacking and being safe with your cannon was well done. I liked the level design and the enemy variation. Sucking back in your cannon balls was a neat mechanic, reminds me of the "you only have one" theme from a while ago. I thought the hitboxes could have been tweaked a bit - I often found myself not hitting when I thought I did hit an enemy (especially the squares - do they have circular hit boxes?), and getting hit when I thought I was safe. A map on the second level would have been good too. Apart from that it was great, I beat both levels :)

Noinun40 by Itzemii 2021-10-09T19:04:29Z

A really nice entry! The gameplay and idea is quite innovative, and the game itself is fun to play. I liked the interesting symbols and the silly particles when you get a match-3. I wish there was a bit more strategy then just guessing which symbol to put down based on a few other local symbols, but I think that's a hard problem to solve. Nice job for a compo entry!

Happy Glasses by VarunDevs 2021-10-04T15:55:20Z

Awesome that you finished something for your first LD! It's well finished - it's got a title screen, instructions, ending, music, sfx - great! The idea is pretty cool too and good job getting Unity's physics to work nicely. I do wish some of the levels were a bit more challenging and took a bit more skill - but it's a fun little toy in any case! The music is... well, I think you know ;) Nice job!

Rocky Road by thefatgalaboo 2021-10-16T12:10:57Z

Very silly and whimsical. Hard to control but a neat idea!

Fractured Logic by ytniminty 2021-10-07T13:52:27Z

A nice little game! I like the very pixelated 3d style. It was quite short and the puzzles were quite easy, but the idea is there - maybe with a bit more fleshing out it could be a great little puzzle game!

The Unstoppable Guio by Lucas Thomaz 2021-10-04T15:41:10Z

Nice submission! The idea is pretty fun and the art style is nice, but there are some odd quirks - the jump is instant for me and pretty jarring, and having to restart right at the beginning of the level gets annoying fast.

It's gonna fall! by andopp 2021-10-16T12:19:15Z

Very cute! I loved the music and sound effects when the blocks were falling. A very simple concept but executed well. Some kind of score or failure condition would have been nice additions. Good work!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Hurrikeyn by Josh Riley 2022-04-16T03:10:14Z

A fun little typing game! I really liked how the music built with the tension. The presentation was very clean, with a few nice bits of polish. I would have liked more feedback when I typed something wrong, I think. Otherwise a very fun little time killer! ld50type.PNG

The Extraterrestial Farm Enterprise by Aggrathon 2022-04-16T03:04:11Z

A fun take on the theme! Interest on debt really is inevitable. I found it a fun arcade-y experience, with some interesting choices to make. The debt really did fly up, and I would have liked more of a choice of how much of my money I could pay off the debt rather than almost all of it, but that's a small gripe. Good stuff!

The Inglorious Yet Highly Stimulating Life of an Underpaid Graduate Student 2 by Kyle Farwell 2022-04-05T05:57:03Z

Some of that made me laugh out loud, very funny! I got stuck on the same few calls repeatedly though - not sure how many there are. I kept losing sanity as well - I guess that's just what happens in IT support? I made it 25 calls. Fun entry!

Fight and die! by mukult 2022-04-16T02:56:53Z

Congrats on your entry! I agreed with @jogy34 that the combat didn't seem very balanced, and it was very hard to get any attacks in at all. I did however manage to delay the inevitable for about 5 minutes by just running around in circles (and I think I could have gone much longer).

ld50runaway.jpg

Grounded! by ajpl 2022-04-16T03:25:30Z

Nice entry! I really liked the music and how it changed in various rooms. The background was also very nice, although it didn't really match the simpler people. There were some fun strategy moments as well, like being able to clear 2 or more issues at the same time.

Some more mechanics could have been nice: the guests moving around, different ways of dealing with issues, etc. Still great work for your first entry!

Rockagatchi by CypherDoesStuff 2022-04-05T05:38:27Z

A very silly concept! The minigames were fun, and I loved the fake pink shell. That being said, even the downloaded game was a bit buggy and I wasn't really sure what I was doing wrong/right in lot of the minigames. The best I got was Day 3. Nice entry!

Cat Fragmentator by Recher 2022-04-16T02:40:15Z

That was actually super fun! A real interesting idea that made for some really fun gameplay. Lining up cats and FIRIN' MAH LAZER was very *cat*hartic. I know the theme was delay the inevitable and so it was probably good that it was over so quickly, but it would have been awesome to extend the game somehow - maybe by rows disappearing a la Tetris, or by some other way of removing cats from your hard drive.

Really good work though, one of the most innovative ideas I've seen this jam!

I thought that was fantastic! The gameplay was frantic and very silly, I really loved the physics of the plants flying everywhere and frantically trying to take care of the plants, and I was giggling at all the different mechanics that were introduced.

I know the theme was delay the inevitable and it is supposed to get "impossible" at some point, but I would really love a version of this game that is a bit more playable and chill - I think it could be really fun!

Typing Turmoil by SugarSugarSugar 2022-04-16T02:47:54Z

Congrats on your entry! I think you have a solid gameplay base here, I liked the idea of running and attacking successfully when you type. As others have said, a visual indicator of when make a mistake and when you can start typing again would be nice, as well as maybe some more control over where your character is going and who is attacking who. I thought the difficulty really ramped up as well - was it even possible to defeat the boss? In any case, good job!

For all the Cheese by ToasterTot 2022-04-05T05:28:09Z

A fun idea! The graphics were really lovely, and the mouse fighting a big cat is a classic for a reason. All the different attacks were really well put together as well!

That being said, I found the controls a bit floaty and not as tight as they could have been. I felt the boss fight was a bit unfair at times, with that cat and its paws changing from being non-damaging and open to attacks to suddenly being damaging. I know you weren't really *supposed to* beat or attack the boss, but it was fun enough that I wanted to try!

School Grade by Charles IdB 2022-04-16T03:15:55Z

A nice take on endless runners. As others have said, it is very hard to jump over even the first obstacle. Some kind of score would be great as well. Still, you should be proud of finishing something for your first game jam!

Tower of Googly by HoneyHop 2022-04-16T03:42:22Z

That was fun! It took a couple of tries to get the hang of it, but my tower flew up once I did. The tension of growing the tower and trying to get more and more pigeons whilst reclimbing every time was fun. Perhaps some checkpoint so you don't have to climb all the way up your tower every time could be nice? Either way, fun game. I really liked the silly googly eyed animals and the variants - felt great to get a snake and fly up rather than the 3-legged monkey. The music fit really well too. Great entry!

I'm not sure the leaderboard was working, though. I couldn't submit, sadly, or see the top scores.

Delay Bedtime by Matt E 2022-04-05T05:34:36Z

Made me laugh out loud. A very silly premise, and I liked having to both cause mayhem to distract and having to turn back the clock. I found myself getting caught quite quickly - maybe having the adults have a line of sight cone like in some "classic stealth games" would have made it a bit easier! Maybe I just need to get better, but could have been nice to have a few rounds of attempting to turn back the clock.

10 Seconds To Avoid Death by jk5000 2022-10-10T19:53:57Z

Interesting take on the theme! A nice reaction/precision game with a risk/reward tradeoff. A simple concept executed well. I liked the music/SFX and voice acting as well. Nice job for a compo entry! Could be expanded with maybe different things to do, not just pressing a button, or different minigames.

Careful Caverns by Josh6680 2022-10-10T00:07:32Z

I really liked the take on the theme! It was an interesting case of slow, deliberate exploration and then frantic execution. Fun! I think perhaps it could have been a bit clearer that the player was actually making progress, as I was very lost at some points but still actually moving forwards - though I guess that's probably the mood you wanted. There were some very tight platforming sections too, and sometimes the screen transition made it very hard to control. The controls were slightly unforgiving too, it didn't seem possible to jump whilst holding the button, you had to press it every time. The rats multiplying was a neat touch, I liked them jumping to their deaths as they tried to attack me! Nice entry

Spacemine Defense by Jimbly 2022-10-12T23:52:42Z

That was very fun! Really scratched that itch for me like Factorio or Civ of planning ahead and just needing to get around to that one next thing. The concepts were very straightforward, easy to learn and introduced well. The third level especially felt very hard the first time I tried it, but with some thought I managed to beat it.

The sound was great, the sound effects worked very well, and the music was very in keeping with the theme. Just the right vibe. The graphics were a little bit old school and maybe a bit rough around the edges, but it definitely had a style.

My only gripes were that sometimes it was hard to place a building - I worked out that the nodes only had a certain number of connections, but I do wonder if some automatic re-jiggling of connections would make gameplay smoother - there were times were I was sure if I had build my connections in a different way, it would all be fine, so changing where the connections were on the fly might be all it takes to make it less frustrating to place buildings. I also wish it was a bit easier to assess damage - maybe something like factorio where destroyed buildings have a shadow of themselves and a `/!\` or something.

Potentially also being able to control the attack spaceships might be nice too - they were pretty dumb and I wished I could have been able to tell them where to go, and it might have also added an extra layer of complexity.

The theme worked well too - it kind of became defunct after a certain point though, as power just got to places as it got there. I think it would be a different game without it though, so perhaps it is more key than I think.

Really great job, especially for a compo entry!

Sweet Nightmare by almost 2022-10-10T01:46:51Z

A cute little idea! I liked the character and enemy designs and the little music loop. The idea of changing controls scheme so widely every ten seconds was an interesting one, and I'm impressed with how many different control schemes you came up with!

I did think it could use a little bit of balancing - I found navigating away from enemies almost impossible with some control schemes, especially with the number of enemies and the tightness in some parts of the level. The screen also felt pretty busy sometimes, with the enemies and fruit not always standing out from the background.

Out Of Memory by adam-gould 2022-10-13T04:29:19Z

The inspiration from Zachtronics is pretty clear! It's a nice little puzzle game, with some interesting ideas.

Unfortunately there were some things that stopped it from being great. The UI was pretty swish but a little clunky to use - perhaps dragging and dropping the icons would have been better? It was also very not.clear to me that you could.program more than one 10 second set for each robot, which I think really changed the dynamic of the game. There were some pretty gnarly difficulty spikes, especially levels 6 and 8 (which I got stuck on).

I think there's the base of a great game here somewhere - perhaps removing the 10 second limit and just having to plan out the robots with a limited instruction set would be better? Potentially with more ways for the robots to interact - in level 6 I tried to have one robot pick up another, which could be cool.

In general though, it's a very solid entry, especially for a compo game - it feels very complete and put together! Good job 😁

Ravening Edge by Tsunscreen 2022-10-10T19:45:54Z

That was a really neat little experience! The theme worked well here, making you intentional about when and how you cleared enemies, especially during the very fun boss fight! The graphics fit very well, and the music kept the pace up and made me feel very badass killing all the monsters. I liked the slash to kill mechanic, and having to ensure you came in close for the final slash was a great piece of second-to-second gameplay. The levels were designed well too, with nice little chokepoints and some forced explorations with the key cards. The enemy designs were great too and well communicated - I felt like I knew which were strong and which weren't.

I think the only constructive feedback I have is to maybe add more enemy types, make it longer, and possibly make it more juicy - some gore when you kill enemies, or some visual indication when they're ready to be slashed. Some more general effects as well when picking up items or just shooting at the monster would be great too. But the core gameplay that you have is very solid, so good job!

Groceries Please! by natpat 2022-10-04T18:10:26Z

@dxk2294 thank you so much! Very kind words.

@ayced no idea is unique, right? 😉 There is some randomness, but the idea was to introduce the tasks slowly. I'm glad it worked.

@ithebreather thanks! Pico8 makes it so easy to make games that run almost anywhere. The storyline isn't that long currently, so I would encourage you to play it to the end 😁

@ogelgames hahaha, people are mean! Thanks for the review.

Groceries Please! by natpat 2022-10-06T04:14:02Z

@payaosito Rude customers was the mood we were going for  thanks for the kind words, I spent a while tweaking the balance so I'm glad you enjoyed!

@jmad Woah, three times is a lot! Thanks so much <3 I also recognised your avatar and remembered you left a simiarly lovely review on our LD46 game Bonsai - great to see you back!

@wizcas I'm so glad you enjoyed the realism! We really wanted you to empathise and get in the shoes of the character, so I'm glad you got into that mindset. Thank you!

@budda Thanks!

@cyberfrank haha thanks! there were definitely fun bits like coding grumpy customers and making all the different items

Groceries Please! by natpat 2022-10-07T16:03:36Z

@boclow thanks so much for your review! We were a bit unsure if you should start with some items in the shop or not so I'm glad you enjoyed organising it from scratch 🙂 customers asking where things were was a feature that got scrapped, sadly! Thanks for your very kind words and good job on your score 😁

@substain somehow we came up with the idea very quickly and it all fell into place! Balancing was tricky so I'm happy you think it's done well.

@oozer thank you!

@trusty definitely - so many decisions to make!

@twowolf thanks for not posting spoilers! I wonder which ending you got - there are 8 in total!

@rinkuji ahah yes, I wished we had time to add some in game instructions. The tables are supposed to be shelves which is why you can only stock from in front. I know that's not particularly clear though! Glad you figured it out. Thanks!

@gonzalol that is such high praise, thank you so much! Yes they're supposed to be shelves, I wished we made that clearer. We wanted to add customers who complain if the shop isn't organised - sadly it had to be cut 😅 papers please was definitely a strong influence (though I'm sure you got that from the title 😁). Thanks again!

@dannyk1994 thank you! Challenging and rewarding gameplay is always hard to hit in a jam so I'm glad it worked for you 🙂

@bangkerpow thank you for the kind words! I am shocked at how well the theme worked for us as well, considering we all hated it at the start 😅

@caladrius thank you! Helping your kid was a feature we really prioritised and I think it really adds a lot. An in game tutorial or some kind of explanation would be next on my list, but I'm glad you figured it out!

KILLING TIME: The Dimensional RPG by Spex130 2022-10-10T04:56:41Z

One of the best games I've played this LD! While it's quite a simple concept, you really used the 10 second theme to put a twist on something usual and improve it. While it's a little rough around the edges and some of the graphics don't look as crisp as maybe they should do, it's a really fun little turn based battling game with some surprisingly deep mechanics! I thought the effects on my menu wouldn't affect me that much, but in the heat of battle, especially against the last boss, they really did.

The balance on the game was great too - the first three bosses were fairly straightforward but really made me learn the game and its systems, and let me customize my loadout in a way that wasn't overwhelming. Then the final boss was just on the right side of difficult - I had to try it 5-6 times, but each time I felt like I had made a fatal mistake that had put victory just out of reach. It's only when I played perfectly that I managed to scrape the victory (although looking at the other reviews, I'm just bad at the game )

The music was very fitting, sound effects worked well, and it felt like a complete package. Whilst the art maybe wasn't as cohesive as it could have been, it did all lend towards a general theme of fighting off evil. Good job!

Gladiato"R"Us by Maxime Cyr 2022-10-10T00:36:12Z

I, uh. That was something alright. Choosing babies felt a little random, I wasn't really sure what the descriptions meant. The fighting was kinda interesting, a nice little strategic placement and then watching those babies fight :face_palm:

There wasn't really a lot to do, but you definitely made something with some sort of vision.

Stuck gun by mira 2022-10-06T23:33:37Z

A nice take on theme! I liked the fact there were two areas of the game - I was surprised when there was a whole other space with a bunch of new enemies. The graphics in general were good - I really liked the little intro sequences with the pictures - a clever way to tell a story with a modest amount of work! I would have liked some more variation in enemy mechanics or something else to do other than just running away from enemies though. Maybe some timing based challenges or puzzles, or enemies that you have to line up to defeat. As it was right now, it felt like it was lacking a hook or special mechanic. I also would have liked something just before the gun fired - maybe some sound or effect to let me know that it's time to aim.

HURTEC by Trexxak 2022-10-08T00:10:39Z

Some interesting concepts! Button mashing is always fun, and having to put in the code to fire as you were button mashing took some skill. It didn't leave me any time to move my tank or anything though, but I still got to the last "impossible" level. Maybe a slightly slower paced, more strategic game would be a better fit - though then there would be no button mashing

Opening Knight by GERD 2022-10-10T22:10:02Z

Not used to seeing opening cinematic in Jam games! It really set the scene, and you obviously had a clear story and setting in mind, which is great! The art style is very cute and charming, so good job.

The game play was fun - nice variety of enemies and a good difficulty curve. I did find the controls a bit clunky, especially the aiming of the sword - would have loved for the sword to be mouse controlled like a twin stick shooter (slasher?). Getting hit by an enemy really hurt as well as the knockback was very strong and very long, meaning I often got hit by multiple enemies in a row if I got hit once. Cooldown/i-frames are supposed to let you get away to safety and regroup, and that didn't quite work here. The early waves were nice to learn, but got really slow once I had retried a few times - and there was no reward for playing better, so it was just a bit boring restarting. The later waves were really fun and frantic, so getting to those quicker would be best.

More enemy types and maybe powerups or other effects would be good ways to expand this! Nice entry

Cats by Turquoise Moon 2022-10-09T23:52:39Z

So many cats! They just kept on coming. The tutorial was impressive, it's always nice to see an in game explanation of the game in a Jam game. The premise was fun too, working out which traits were positive and negative and what you could get away with whilst still getting positive reputation. I did feel like I got a lot more negative people than positive, but that's a small balancing thing.

Maybe more interaction when trapping a cat could have been nice. I'm also not sure that the ten second timer really meant anything, just that there were always more cats than I could deal with.

The Therapy by Mika314 2022-10-10T01:25:35Z

I liked the story and setting behind the game, and the enemy was an interesting realisation of that. It was quite a simple game, and I didn't find it very challenging - hiding from the enemy was fine and usually I just had a straight shot to the end of the maze. The controls were a little janky as well, arrow keys or being able to move the mouse while clicking woudl improve things. Good job!

10 second to Shelter by Frankey333 2022-10-06T22:57:06Z

Nice take on the theme! Having to balance everything was stressful and I think that was the feeling you were going for. Being able to explore further and further by finding more energy drinks was a nice touch. I did feel like it would have been nice to have the ability to take pills during the run if I had them, as I died by radiation very late on in a run. I also thought it was very hard and quite punishing, and that how likely you were to win was very down to luck - though perhaps that's true to life!

Countdown Crusaders by Slothzilla Games 2022-10-07T22:54:42Z

A really solid entry! I loved that the enemies were time themed. The animations, sound and effects made it very juicy and feel nice to play. The music was very fitting as well.

The main idea of new changes every ten seconds is an obvious one, but I love the contrasting cards making it a fun choice to decide what to pick. The different effects were interesting and varied, and it was almost never obvious which card would be the best, which was great. It made for a nice change of pace too, as otherwise the game could be too frantic.

More enemy variation and more card effects would be the only things I could think of to improve this - really great work!

Is this your Order? by martinboue 2022-10-08T01:03:46Z

There was a lot going on! Very hard to remember where everyone was, and especially hard to find people based on the colour of their clothing. The city was nicely designed though, it was nice to see what was in it. Nice entry!

10 Seconds, 9 Lives by Joe Bevis 2022-10-06T20:49:59Z

Really nice minigame collection! Very juicy as well, I love the transitions and the hit animations. The different music tracks for the minigames were a nice touch as well, I enjoyed not having the same loop on repeat. The cat graphic was very cute and I loved the different backgrounds on every minigame too l.

I did think the controls were a little bit finicky - especially playing on mobile, I would have loved x or o to be jump rather than up. I did also wonder if some of the minigames were impossible once the difficulty ramped up? Maybe I just need to get good 😁

Really nice entry!

Tower Stack by ChrisWiseman 2022-10-10T01:32:30Z

A great first attempt! Physics are always tricky to get right, but sticker blocks and higher gravity might have been better here. The levels were pretty big too, I wasn't really sure what there was to do except to keep stacking blocks, which got a bit repetitive after a while. Also you can start your stacking anywhere, including on the higher up ledges, and also in the goal box, meaning you can just click once to win every level.

Make Haste, Detective! by frogwizardhat 2022-10-07T00:15:43Z

Love a good mystery! The voice acting was a lovely surprise, and very well done considering time constraints. I loved the art style as well - the slight 3D effect when moving the cursor was really lovely and helped add a lot of depth. The cases were different enough to be interesting, and I liked the diferent themes and crimes. The characters were all different, memorable and well styled. I loved the music as well, and the little intro to each case was a really lovely touch.

The mechanic itself of having 10 seconds to interogate didn't land particularly well for me though, unfortunately. I liked the idea of having to cut people off and use your time wisely, but I also found that because you had to listen right to the end and only a particular question unlocked the next question, it meant I just took a brute force approach to listening to everything to see what unlocked what. When I was doing that, the whole 10 seconds thing and total time to solve the case just became a bit annoying as I restarted the case over and over to find out what everyone had to say. Which was sad, because the cases themselves were actually really good!

I also wasn't completely sure why the answer for the second case was as it was. There was no smoking gun that I could find, just some small hunches and things that didn't add up. Potentially that was all there was, but it didn't really feel like I solved the case - instead that I had just had my suspicions confirmed.

It's a really well polished and well done entry - just potentially feels like the theme has been shoe-horned in a little too hard and doesn't quite fit with the detective genre.

Nua by Cayurr 2022-10-10T00:49:42Z

A nice little tile based puzzley roguelike! I was a bit confused about what all the upgrades did in my first playthrough, but reading your comment here made it clear and I went on to win my next playthrough.

It was a fun little game - trying to plan out a route and prioritize upgrades was fun! I wish I could have known a bit more about what each tile would take in terms of cost, but the sprites were fairly clear most of the time. I liked the enemy design and the barren landscape. As you mentioned though, the game could probably have been more clear in general about the rules and what each of the upgrades did. Maybe just some renaming and clearer instructions is all it would take.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Gravity Chess by CaptainPilot 2018-04-26T18:10:21Z

I really enjoyed that. The difficulty ramps up really well, and new concepts are introduced at just the right time - which is really impressive for a Jam game. I played all of the levels - Level 17 stumped me the most, but I finally managed to get it. I don't know if you were supposed to be able to move the bishop in the final level through the stone block, as it made the puzzle fairly easy (I had quite a few moves left). The graphics were simple, but that was all that was needed - and it could have been nice to have some sort of fail screen when you run out of moves and a success screen, but those would have just been polish on top of an already good entry. I second what other people have said - it already feels like a really good mobile game!

Death Fog Dash by theArtifacts 2018-04-24T22:34:03Z

I enjoyed the general art theme, and the two genres you picked clashed just enough to make it work well. The animations and UI look polished too. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but it felt like I could keep running for quite a while and I wouldn't have to put a letter down until I needed to. As others have said, some of the three letter words were hard to guess - it makes sense if there were acronyms. I never got to see longer words, so it could have been nicer if that happened earlier.

ShootBall by Andro 2018-04-28T12:23:24Z

I think it's a great start - the AI seems to work well, if it was more balanced it could be a lot more fun, as it's almost impossible to hit it at the moment. I also found picking up items hard - you have to get very close to them and be very exact about where you're looking.

City&Racing by nizlow 2018-04-28T12:04:35Z

The racing bit is fun, and I had a good time upgrading my car and doing the little time trials, but the city building bit is confusing - I wasn't sure really what I was doing or what effect it had. Nice take on the theme though

Overwhelming by Ziovoxxer 2018-04-28T12:33:57Z

A cool idea, I've played similar games on 2D but never in 3D. The controls were a bit awkward at times though, and I kept getting pushed off blocks.

Bullet Snail by Video Gamus 2018-04-24T22:40:22Z

Really good take on the theme, there are some interesting tactical ideas. Could be really interesting fleshed out into a full game.
