LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Downward Frog by GogglesKitty 2021-04-28T13:36:11Z

This game is so slooow. I kind of wished I could dodge downwards and not just up and to the side. Also the decision to make the live pickup give you all the lives back is a bit strange to me. The art and sound design are fantastic though.

Evolve or Die by Lazzor 2021-05-02T07:14:52Z

I think this game was very well made. But there are a few problems I have with it. First the difficulty curve is a mess. The first two levels are very hard to beat and took me more than half of the time I spent with the game. The later parts though are very easy because your fish is already a baby making machine. The second thing that I don't like is that your fish become monsters at the end, but they don't look like cool monsters but min-max monsters that are constructed in a checkerboard pattern to maximize efficiency. I think this could have been avoided if the body was free and could only be placed next to another body. But as I said, I like the idea and also the game itself. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered writing this critique. Great work.

Krakonsequence by JudgeZedd 2021-04-28T07:55:24Z

I love the setting and the whole news idea. The killing feels and looks nice. Though wile the tentacles sometimes shoot out very fast, sometimes they almost do nothing. The movement feels a bit sluggish but that's to be expected from an octopus. Good job.

Town of Monsters by lesinvisible 2021-04-28T13:30:21Z

what a great game. I love the grotesque art style, the moody soundtrack and the amazing voice acting. The game is definitely very different to what you see in game jams usually and I adore it for that. Some of the decisions you made me make where pretty difficult. The only thing im a bit unsure about is the combat. Could you maybe explain how it worked exactly ?

Town of Monsters by lesinvisible 2021-04-28T14:24:57Z

@lesinvisible when I say I really like the voice acting I mean it. There is a very irresistible charm to it. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the breakdown of the combat system. It seems very random to me. The only thing you could do to do better is to figure out what the fav move of your opponent is if I understand correctly. And finding it with a 50 chance seems pretty pointless to me. But that isn't a problem I think because its not the point of the game anyways.

you are chained to an egg and are falling down a pit by goblinkingmatt 2021-04-28T14:54:07Z

It got very frustrating at the end and I wasn't able to finish it because I got my egg stuck in the wall. But otherwise this is .... interesting .. and I think I like it...

Depth of Death by KenForest 2021-04-28T15:41:56Z

Man this game is awesome. I love the setting but the gameplay is just very shallow. Some mechanic like ammo or reloading would have done wonders for this game but I get that that is very time consuming to make. good job

The Chimney by Michael Grieshofer 2021-04-28T14:16:08Z

@carraka Thank you so much for pointing out the bug. This makes the game literally impossible to beat. I had a look in the rules and it is allowed to fix bugs as long as you don't include new features. So I fixed it and it took me like 5 seconds to do so. If I wouldn't had known about this all the new players would have had a awful experience so thank you again.

The Chimney by Michael Grieshofer 2021-05-13T04:55:46Z

@boxedmeatrevolution Yeah I did not consider the context menu thing. You are absolutely right. The shooting controls are a the main problem people are having and I can see why. I wanted to replicate the gameplay of resident evil 4 in 2d and while I was developing, I had to do some changes to make it work. The aiming with the W S keys was necessary to make it slower and more difficult. Im not sure how successful it was tho. I dont think the gameplay as it is would work in a longer game. And from the comments I guess people also don't like it very much. Was worth a try though.

Leave Me Alone by crazyrems 2021-10-16T11:47:43Z

got the highscore. It was a great game and I like the block pushing as a strategy. It adds a lot of depth to the game. The only criticism I have is that I would like to know how far away the black hole is.

The Adventures of Chris the Slime, part 1: The Bacon and the Jeffenator by Batsphemy 2021-10-05T10:08:07Z

Sadly the game won't open for me and I have no idea why.

Slime-azon by Macabre 2021-10-05T09:54:16Z

I played until day 11 and the levels seemed to repeat indefinitely. I then killed myself and the game closed itself. So an ending would have been nice. This game lacks a good primary gameplay loop. The act of going somewhere without touching objects on the floor is not enough on its own. It needed a time limit or some other way of adding challenge. I think its odd that I can't step on a twig but running into a fence at full speed is ok. Maybe making the walls hurt you would have been a good addition. Also the game lacks critical feedback. At first I didn't figure out how to deliver mail because I expected to need to press a button even though you only need to get close to the mail boxes. A sound, an animation a particle effect, anything would have made this interaction much clearer. The number that goes down is just not noticeable enough. I like that the mail boxes have teeth. It's weird and does not fit the style of the game but I think it is funny and adds a lot of personality. Great job on the graphics in general. The game looks very nice and the model quality is great overall. The music was going on my nerves after a while though.

Unstable Concoction by Blueberry_Mauro 2021-10-16T08:59:25Z

I died at 145$ and it was kinda frustrating because I didn't even know you could die. I would have loved to complete it but the 150$ goal is just too high in my opinion. I feel like it overstays it's welcome a bit. Maybe drop the price down to 100 so it doesn't take as long. And please communicate the health of the player.

Enhanced by Hermitao 2021-10-05T16:59:14Z

It seems like you slightly over scoped with this one. The audio and graphics are fantastic. The combat feels good and the atmosphere is also great. Just the 'game' is missing.

Ice Pop! by essarrgee 2021-10-05T10:31:32Z

I love the little penguins. Very cute. Sometimes they run against walls and there is no chance to get them where you want because you can't get behind them. It's a bit frustrating. Otherwise the penguin chasing is works surprisingly well though. I wouldn't say that it was able keep me interested for very long but everything worked as intended ( aside from health. I don't know if you are able to die if you get hit too often). The music is nice and the mix between 3d voxel art and sprites is always great. Good job on the game.

F%$#IN BIRDS! by Substain 2021-10-05T16:35:26Z

I have been playing this for like 15 minutes and my head hurts from blowing into the mic. My highscore is 47.

And F%$K those birds.

Octoboom by Yolwoocle 2021-10-05T09:29:53Z

I think the main thing that holds the game back are the hitboxes. The tiles are in the way and you get stuck on corners often. Also the hitbox for collecting the bomb is too small. Sometimes the bomb just reappears in my hands even tho I wasn't even near it. The inclusion of the gas as a one hit kill is unnecessary and frustrating. A barrier that crushes you if you get stuck on a rock would have been better I think. The level generation is messy. In combination with the big hitboxes it leads to the movement not being fun despite it being really good on its own. I think if there were fewer but bigger rocks that would fix the issue. The potato zombies spawn speed is nice. It's not overwhelming yet there is no down time, at least for my skill level - great job on that.

In general I think the risk vs reward idea you were going for does not work out that well because of the level generation , the big hitboxes and the speed of the bomb. It ends up being very random how long the bomb is alive.

I like the art. It is very cohesive and nice on the eyes. The music is not bad but it doesn't strike me as awesome.

Loved it. The double jump things are wayyyy too small. It makes the game ten times harder than it should be. Otherwise the challenge was amazing. The art is great and the music is amazing. My fav game so far.

I ran into a bug were after every death the camera would start further and further to the right and then scroll to the left screen by screen. I had to restart at some point.

GLASSCANNON by Michael Grieshofer 2021-10-16T14:38:33Z

@natpat Thanks for the comment. The hitboxes on the brick enemies are indeed circles because I just copied and pasted the movement from the eye enemies including the hitbox and forgot to change it to a square. I plan on releasing a better version of the game after the rating period is over were I will fix some bugs and design problems. I can also add a map.

Inertia by cabbageslices 2021-10-16T09:32:29Z

I played it with my brother and we found out that just holding a direction is the best strategy because you can not die but you instead rotate around the center until you land on a platform again. Some obstacles or a little bit of combat would have elevated the experience a lot.
