LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Xonatiuh by dementor561 2015-12-15T05:37:00

For the most part it's pretty cool. the background's parallax effect is extremely dizzying which can be fixed by slowing it down significantly, and it doesn't quite reach the edge of the screen if you stand on the far left.
Otherwise, it's an interesting idea!

Void by bakudas 2015-12-16T23:36:00

Great concept, but it feels weird to have such a long delay after releasing the mouse and makes it kind of hard to dodge things. Overall pretty good!

Major Tom by OberynMartell 2015-12-15T05:00:00

Very fun! Trying to stay still while adjusting the angle is incredibly infuriating, but in a really good way. Nice Work.

The Super Bros (that are not Brothers!) by Xinelu 2015-12-15T03:02:00

Interesting interpretation of the theme! I don't know if it's intentional, but the arrow keys work and completely defeat the whole "two-button" thing :P

You can't see but you can feel by Cliff Lee CL 2015-12-17T05:42:00

Certainly lacking on the graphics category...
Seriously though, this is a really cool concept for a game! I like it.

Limited Stunts by Vladik_Plays 2015-12-16T17:56:00

I like the concept, but the controls kind of ruin it for me :/ If you got rid of the up and right only thing, despite not adhering to either theme, it would be better. Graphics and audio are nice, though!

Guardian by TheMeorch 2015-12-15T06:13:00

I would gladly play for a complete version of this. That's pretty rare from a Ludum Dare game. This is honestly the best game I've played from this whole thing so far! Very nice work.

Polygonal Expansion by GogglesKitty 2015-12-15T04:26:00

As far as the Auto-Muting audio, that's intentional; the royalty free music I found matches the time and tempo the game is set to, so it wouldn't work if the tempo didn't match :P

I tried not to vary from the 2 button theme at all, thus the awkward menu.

Finally, the lack of an indicator of successfully hitting a beat is an oversight. Meant to add something and never got around to it.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Polygonal Expansion by GogglesKitty 2015-12-15T06:29:00

Based on what most people are saying, I feel like a "Fixed up" version after this is over would be nice. Unfortunately, the changes are a bit much to just add to the game in the jam :P
Again, Thank you all so much! <3

Polygonal Expansion by GogglesKitty 2015-12-20T22:13:00

Hot Box Games, strange! I have no idea why that would happen.
I'm nearly done with the post jam version, so hopefully that isn't a persistent issue.

2Door by Polith Games 2015-12-16T23:42:00

interesting take on memorization, I enjoyed it.

Homewards by M a r o o v a n 2015-12-17T03:34:00

Great art and a fantastic message I'm sure many people can relate to. Nice job.

Protoplanet by Benjamin-L 2015-12-17T05:56:00

I like the concept, just have some minor annoyances. I feel like a super clear art style (i.e. not blurry) would make it feel better. There's also no indication of motion which makes moving kind of disorienting. Otherwise, really cool!

Trumpie Town by Jebby 2015-12-15T04:12:00

With some more time and polish, this would be a really fun game. As is is now, though, it's a great jam game :D

MILK TEETH by Rufson 2015-12-15T05:04:00

I don't want to play this any more. That's good??? I think??? (It's certainly entertaining) :D

POOM POOM TCHI by OctoStudio 2015-12-18T02:54:00

Though I don't have friends to play this with, it's a really cool concept! I like how it's more strategic instead of just jumping around and spamming the shoot button like many games are. The controls are a bit weird, but I'm sure they're quick to get used to. The art is also really interesting! Great work.

LD35 — Shapeshift

ˈSHāpˌSHift by GogglesKitty 2016-04-25T03:28:00

Just so everyone knows, this is really just supposed to be a joke, kind of. My initial concept was to literally move a square to another square, without variance or anything really interesting at all. I decided to expand it a little bit and try to make it even worth downloading :P I'm really appreciating all of the feedback, even with that said!

LD37 — One room

Doom Tomb of the True Room by Flatgub 2016-12-17T20:28:00

I figured I'd let you know, this is the only Ludum Dare game I've ever come back to play again. It's just so frustratingly satisfying! I love it, and did manage to finish it after 3 attempts or ~260 deaths.

Flag Runner by GogglesKitty 2016-12-15T04:02:00

Hi, just wanted to say thank you all for the approval and criticism of my game! Getting other perspectives on it is incredibly helpful, so I do really appreciate it.
To address some common concerns:

Level Design-- Specifically the more... precise levels were created in an attempt to almost artificially create a difficulty curve on par with what you'd find in a longer game like this one. Unfortunately, with the limited mechanics and lack of time, some levels ended up being "hope you release the space bar soon enough". Not the best design. Oh well.

No Music-- I really wanted to add some, but I felt with my time remaining, anything I tried to compose would've been mediocre or repetitive at best.

Controls-- I honestly don't know what I could change to make it feel better, but I have realized that the more popular platformers rely more on speed and precision as opposed to the more vertically focused design/control and perfectly timed button presses/releases that this game relies on.

Anyway, like I said, I appreciate the feedback. It helps me learn what to or not to do for now and on into the future. Thank you! <3

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Falling Time by g12345 2021-05-01T00:57:44Z

This is a lot of fun! It definitely reminds me of an early PC game or something from that era. Straightforward, simple, and addicting! Nice work.

Boom Bang Doomerang by Riftpoint Entertainment 2021-05-03T02:23:02Z

I really like the concept for the gameplay, though I think some slight changes would go a long way. The way the player attacks feels ...stiff as-is. Just an idea, but maybe you could throw the Doomerang in the direction you're moving/facing/aiming instead of having it start off stationary. Or, maybe it could bounce twice or more before returning since bouncing it off the walls is already so satisfying. Things like that that could help smooth out the gameplay for sure. Nice work though, love the art, sounds, and music!

Labyrinth by Brendev 2021-04-29T02:27:04Z

I feel like very few games ever force the player to look up for any reason, so those falling spikes make this game stand out to me. I found myself chaotically looking between the ceiling and the upcoming rooms to watch for obstacles. It's a nice change of pace. I also love the movement, art, and sound! Very satisfying to play and look at. Great work!

Downward Frog by GogglesKitty 2021-04-28T03:39:23Z

Thank you for the kind words and feedback everyone!

@blob lol, it's hard to imagine making anything even slower in this game! I'd love to have spent more time tuning and balancing movement though. I found myself using the side dodge in combo with the upward dodge more often than not.

@jonrei Saaaaame!

Downward Frog by GogglesKitty 2021-04-28T21:38:00Z

@baarmaboi @guladam Agreed on skipping intro when you restart- I had planned to add that but ran out of time!

Downward Frog by GogglesKitty 2021-04-28T21:50:29Z

@michael-grieshofer I had added a downward dodge at some point, but I honestly don't remember why it didn't stick. If I wanted to justify it not being in, I guess I'd say that going faster isn't exactly the point? ...something like that, anyway. I totally get it though, it'd be way more effective and probably more fun if that was an option. Thank you for the feedback!

Downward Frog by GogglesKitty 2021-04-29T00:36:25Z

@antontesh Thank you so much!

Downward Frog by GogglesKitty 2021-05-01T20:08:09Z

@mhorth Thank you! And yeah, I realized that would've been a cool ending shortly before submitting the game. Sadly I didn't have time to implement it, but drifting through space clouds seems like a pretty nice way to spend eternity, at least.

Downward Frog by GogglesKitty 2021-05-02T21:46:44Z

@fis Thank you! I used [Jummbox](jummbus.bitbucket.io) (a mod of Beepbox) for the music. It's a free browser based music making tool. It's a lot of fun to play around with, I'd recommend it as a quick way to make music!

Downslide by pabulum 2021-04-28T21:32:37Z

The controls take a minute to get used to, but it's pretty fun once you do! It's difficult to discern what you should be avoiding and collecting since it's all the same color though. Nice work otherwise!

Sinking Atlantis by lekiy 2021-04-28T01:11:51Z

Fun little game! Feels good to play and there's plenty of interesting lore :)

Cavity Tycoon by Roberto Romao 2021-04-27T04:38:27Z

Really interesting idea! I love the thought of eventually building a cavity empire and taking over the mouth in a full version of this. I also love the character's animations! Nice work!

Deep(er) Purple by johnnysix 2021-05-02T20:58:39Z

Nice work! I really like the concept of making a certain color by collecting things from the environment. Also love the music and sound effects! I do wish the camera followed the cat a bit closer though, it's pretty tough to see where you're going or what you're landing on at times.

Fathomless by SilkyPantsDan 2021-04-28T01:25:03Z

Definitely agree on the difficulty, I gave both paths a good 50 deaths before giving up :P It's pretty fun though! Just overly precise.

Dungeon Of The Darkest Depths by Maduke 2021-04-28T00:37:29Z

Pretty good game! I didn't bother trying to kill the enemies after a minutes or two just because it takes so long to attack. The gameplay would definitely benefit from the ability to shoot faster, imo. Either way, nice work!

Fallumns by Logan 2021-05-19T03:19:48Z

I'm mad at myself for being so bad at match-3 games! I played this near the start of rating and *completely* missed out on ...everything! It seemed like a solid take on match-3, so hopefully you can forgive me for being a little confused when it came out on top overall

I played through again, *fully this time*, and all I can say is *wow*.

Congratulations, this is incredible!

Abyssal Lab by frankiesmileshow 2021-04-29T18:08:23Z

Wow, I could see myself easily spending hours trying to build the optimal base! It does take a minutes to understand what everything does, but once I got that down it was tons of fun. Outstanding stuff!

Fade by Jeremy Ryan 2021-04-28T04:57:55Z

Holy crap, I actually managed to beat the game! First off, what a beautiful story. Love the visuals and music as well, this game is very well put together.

So... the difficulty. For context, I rarely play rhythm games. usually awful at 'em. I'm also not very dexterous, so actually playing a real piano/using both hands independently is a no go. ...I have to agree that it's a *bit* too difficult. **That said!** I don't feel like it needs to be *much* easier! Actually managing to finish the game and pushing through the challenge was truly satisfying. Keep it brutal, IMO. *but like, 90% of this amount of brutal, maybe, possibly* Amazing work!

Minball by Pizzasgood 2021-04-30T03:14:31Z

Ah, I got stuck just above the rocket's spring by not launching at full power and landing on the first one-way block. Fun game though, I always like a unique take on pinball. Unlocking more depth is a cool concept, and I like the twist of having to race back to the top again (even though I died and got reset to the top almost instantly :P) Nice work!

Jaws of Earth by IceEye 2021-04-28T02:01:03Z

I really like the story! It was a little hard to see the environment, though the notes act as a pretty good guide to follow. Nice work!

Wrath of the Stone by squirmonkey 2021-04-27T03:58:16Z

Cool game! It's a little chaotic to just jump into, so the tutorial is much appreciated. (And easy to follow!) I struggled to check the intent of more than just the first couple dwarves before it got too hectic, but it's fun either way!

Dead Orbit by Wargon 2021-04-28T03:53:25Z

The music is AWESOME! Definitely nails the mood of the game. It's a little tough to see what's going on a lot of the time and the controls make it hard to aim precisely, but it's still very fun! Great job!

escape by Matt Swieboda 2021-04-28T02:15:17Z

I like the concept! Also, you may or may not be able to walk off to the left at the start and land at the bottom ;) It's a speedrun strat!

Deep Golf by dmdmdmdm 2021-04-28T22:10:40Z

Fun little game! I restarted once due to flying out of the map and the starting area was literally golf ball sized ground, surrounded by walls  For a second I though I got put into golf jail for leaving the bounds of the course!

Tower Tower Defence Defence by IAmWave 2021-04-27T21:02:15Z

Wow. Wow! This is such an awesome concept, and it's executed so well. Love it.

_arcuswarp by Lucky Zucc 2021-04-27T14:33:42Z

Fun game! It's a little hard to see what's happening due to the visual effects. I really like the idea of the bullet time and warp mechanics, though I felt like every time I tried to warp out of the way of something, I ended up dying anyway. It might help if you became invulnerable for a very short time after you warp? Or maybe warping through enemies or bullets could damage/kill them? Regardless, nice work!

Worlds Inside by Tobias Froihofer 2021-04-29T01:35:50Z

The concept here is really cool! Something about the way you transition deeper is oddly satisfying, it feels kind of unreal. The enemies don't really add too much, imo. If this were a fully fleshed out game I think I'd also love to see more of a focus on exploration and discovery. Awesome work though!

The Pit by BuzzyBee 2021-04-30T02:02:08Z

Neat little game, I really like the grapple mechanic. Being able to grapple from anywhere opens up some interesting level ideas that are super unique. The indicator in the post jam version is definitely a great addition. Nice work!

Burst Vein by Caladrius 2021-04-27T16:52:59Z

Incredible work! Love the atmosphere. Gotta be honest, I ended up brute forcing the door puzzle after wandering around for several minutes and only finding 2 clues. Also, I'm glad you prevented me from doing anything else until I figured out how the blood crystals work. It took me a minute to get, but I totally would've left and wandered around forever otherwise.

Space Breaker by LFJ Gamestudio 2021-04-27T15:46:05Z

Cool concept! I really like the idea of having a kind of... mutual enemy? in the form of the plasma ball that hurts you but also hurts the enemies. I think a fully fleshed out of this game could be really neat.

Pâquerette Down the Bunburrow by Herbie Puppy 2021-04-30T02:51:03Z

Absolutely love this! Despite seeing a stream of it beforehand *and* knowing about... *how babby is formed*, I only managed to get 2 baby bunnies. These bunnies are too smart for my tiny human brain.

Spread Your Roots by Scott Cooper 2021-04-28T00:26:36Z

I like the concept! Can definitely see the potential. I also may have made my first tree too big as well, lol

Jump & Run by mortalslayer24 2021-04-27T19:38:20Z

Agreed about the camera making some jumps difficult, but otherwise this is an enjoyable little game! Good work.

CubeMiner by Coolp 2021-04-29T01:56:22Z

Neat little game, I kind of got lost in just mining around for a while. Definitely agree on the need for some feedback about what or even if you're mining. And yeah, in my fairly limited Unity experience, it can be a bit finnicky. Especially the UI stuff :P

Space Grappler by Duvey 2021-04-27T18:01:30Z

Fun game. Using the brightness of the asteroids to guide the player to the goal is really smart!

Go to Heck 💀 by Chris Dirkis 2021-04-27T05:25:26Z

Had a ton of fun with this! It starts off fairly slow, but the pace picks up when you start to stack up items. The only thing I didn't love was the sledgehammer item (whichever one makes you slow)... or at least how *slow* it makes you. It makes navigation feel pretty tedious. Other than that though, really nice job!

Kerene by jabsatz 2021-05-03T00:03:52Z

I was iffy on the controls for a while, but then I started thinking of each enemy encounters as a navigation puzzle, and it started making more sense. That said, I ended up just running through the final couple layers without killing anything since it didn't seem worth it. I liked the music being timed with difficult encounters, that really adds to the tension. Nice work!

Crashdown by iellswo 2021-04-27T17:01:49Z

This was fun! The tilt-y movement effect is a little nauseating, but the gameplay is good and seeing down to the floors below is cool. Nice work!

Tower of Satan by doodoo 2021-04-29T03:38:07Z

It's pretty repetitive since everything's in the same position, though at some point the demons started floating above the ground. Still fun, just would've liked some variety. The art is great, I'm always a fan of chunky pixely 3D games!

Low Notes by mhorth 2021-04-29T02:59:05Z

Fun game! I'm not sure how effective or maybe overwhelming it would be, but I feel like a circle closing in with each beat would help with discerning how close notes are to the middle. Just something barely visible to help align things, y'know? Another thing that could help is having an outer circle that notes come from so you aren't seeing the left/right notes appear before the up/down ones even though they'd be played after them. Just my two cents! It's a fun game otherwise, I love the visual style. Nice work, and good luck!

Rhythm Cult by CodeCavy 2021-04-27T18:25:22Z

This is so good! The music's great, and I love the dialogue for all of the characters!

Dark Inside by haivron 2021-04-28T03:07:16Z

Really cool! I love the art, it's really stylish. I'd love to see this more fully formed, there are some great ideas in here. Awesome work!

Can You See The Flame by LambMakesGames 2021-04-27T19:33:58Z

I had a lot of fun finding the paths to each light in each new layer. It was a little hard to see at times, but the game has a nice look and feel to it overall. Great work!

Vertabyss by UltimateWalrus 2021-04-28T02:50:13Z

I love the visuals! The screenshots looked interesting but I wasn't really sure what was happening. In motion though, it's great! Awesome work.

Climber by xxnolanxx 2021-04-28T04:10:48Z

Skidding down the walls is really satisfying! I honestly think turning that into it's own whole game could be great. Nice job!

Frog In Space by Derpasaurus 2021-04-28T02:29:09Z

Ayy, another frog game! Honestly I had fun just flying around and crashing into things. The movement feels really good! Nice work.
