LD44 — Your life is currency

Toxigen by doktorace 2019-04-27T21:56:23Z

pretty cute and a good bit of fun, however I found it was too easy. I simply could hold down space and I'd go indefinitely. I also found that the powerups were underpowered. I had no reason or need to use them as they generally cost more oxygen that I got back. This in turn sucked the fun part out of the game. With a bit of balancing I could see this being a lot of fun. Nice work!

LD46 — Keep it alive

CHAD THE BABY SAVER by Brendev 2020-04-22T14:00:41Z

@Afif thanks for the feedback! It should be an endless game, however I've had reports of the game stopping for some people during about the 5th round. How long did it last for you?

CHAD THE BABY SAVER by Brendev 2020-04-22T15:44:38Z

@afif I played the web version a few more times and I realized there was an issue with it building improperly due to the fact that I developed it for Windows. I built it again and it seems to no longer be ending early. If you wanna check it out again lmk if it still ends early, thanks!

CHAD THE BABY SAVER by Brendev 2020-04-23T20:36:16Z

@gord10ahmet thanks for the feedback! I'm still figuring out this whole webgl thing, I've only done Windows releases before. I'll see if I can change some settings and make that an option.

@will-p darn, I thought I fixed that bug! If I may ask, around what amount of points where you at when that happened?

CHAD THE BABY SAVER by Brendev 2020-04-23T20:40:06Z

@jaybaus thanks for playing! I looked up bazookas online and and still confused how they work haha. I think some have the short end forward and some the long end, I guess it's how you hold them

@blaster391 that's the pro strat right there!

ORB by blaster391 2020-04-23T20:51:48Z

Top 3 haha! Fun game though! I loved the art, but I thought the particle systems didn't fit in very well with the otherwise high quality art. Overall great job, the online leaderboard is impressive with such a short time constraint.

This Wasn't In The Job Description by ScottYT 2020-04-21T17:44:28Z

Cool game! I played through the first 5 tasks. I liked the idea, but I do wish the world was a bit more interactive. When I have to clean the bathroom, maybe something as simple as dragging a mop around and spilling water. When I have to beat bob in tetris, something funny like beating his highscore of 2 in a mini tetris simulator. Stuff like that could make this game a lot of fun. Overall, I liked it, lots of potential, but I think it was a bit short on time.

Hungry, Hungry, Hungry, Very, Very Hungry Cat by ilikescifi 2020-04-21T16:29:52Z

Fun game, I like it! I could grab like 100 fish at the same time though, not sure if that was intentional, but it definitely made it lag haha

Protect the Earth by gord10ahmet 2020-04-23T21:04:20Z

Fun game, I found playing with a touchscreen a lot more engaging! It might be a bit easy though, I got almost 500 on my first try, an increased difficulty curve could help with that. Overall I liked it a lot and the graphics were very clean.

Once Upon a Night by Bdiebeak 2020-04-20T08:11:33Z

@bdiebeak Let me know when it's ready, I wanna play it! The art looks great!

Once Upon a Night by Bdiebeak 2020-04-21T16:40:33Z

I felt it was balanced quite well, only took me 4 tries to complete it. I was impressed by how logical the puzzles were. I loved the art, except the explosion effect as that felt very out of place for the style. Other than that, great job!

Hop to it by Owen Rees 2020-04-23T21:24:04Z

Very cute game! The controls were excellent and I really I liked the bread plant. I do wish the UI was easier to read, a font with less depth would help with that. +1 for a fast forward button too. Overall great game!

Desertification by hwaet 2020-04-23T15:48:11Z

Great game! I found all the little tiles worked well to complement each other, that's good design. A do wish there was a tutorial, it took me 2 rounds to figure out what the tiles did (and I'm still not sure about the well after 10 rounds lol). Something small like a tooltip before I plant seeds or add mulch would help alleviate this a lot. Overall still a fun experience, great job!

Harvest Season by Devesh Sharma 2020-04-21T16:51:34Z

The game had great atmosphere and was fun to play. I'm not sure what the inspiration for the art style was, but it reminded me of the movie "The Secret of Kells" (probably because of all the green haha). I do wish the tutorial was more then just words, I think having an interactive one could have helped me understand the game quicker, it wasn't till I started playing that I understood it. Overall, great game!

TP Defender by Alex Weiser 2020-04-20T07:59:49Z

Funny game! I love the concept, I do wish the mechanics had a bit more "juice" though (shooting sounds, gun smoke, recoil, hit effects, etc.). Overall great job!

Unknown Defendant by Afif 2020-04-21T18:06:02Z

Fun game! I actually made a concept very similar to this, good to see I wasn't the only one haha. Anyways, I liked your game a lot, I do wish there was more movement in the game. The gun animations were fantastic, but the rest of the sprites didn't have any animations which really detracted from the overall feel of the game. The voice acting in the game was some of the best I've seen, so great job on that. Overall I liked it a lot, looking forward to your next LD entry!

StarDreck by xPutin88 2020-04-20T08:09:32Z

Fun game! The mood is great, but the details in the graphics make it far less immersive then it could be (the particle effects parented to the ship, no sounds, etc.). Overall, great job!

Air Jump by Konstantin Abezgauz 2020-04-20T17:21:09Z

Fun game! Even though the art may not be great, I think it all fits together very well. Maybe try to add some animations (even just small ones) and you'd have yourself a great mood. Overall good job!

Keep It Alive from nuclear explosion by IzhVaryag 2020-04-20T07:24:17Z

fun idea, I like the random level generation! Definitely could use some "juice" to the gameplay though (screenshake, more effects, tire marks, etc.).

Verbose by santriptasharma 2020-04-23T16:51:07Z

Fun game, very broken though haha. I do wish there was a bit more "juice" to the game (screenshake, clicky buttons, hit effects, etc.). Overall great job for a jam game!

Hermann the German Dough by conrad 2020-04-20T07:56:29Z

Fun little game! I played for like 20 minutes and sadly couldn't get Herman to grow consistently. I really loved the art and the mood of the game, I thought it fit the theme very well! The audio could definitely use some work though.

Meet God Under the Neon Lights by Systematic 2020-04-21T03:58:25Z

I liked it a lot, I felt the atmosphere was very creepy and mysterious. I think the mechanics could use some more "juice" though (screenshake, hit effects, walking sounds, etc.). Overall great job!

Bondfire by daidiimon 2020-04-21T18:18:35Z

Good to see someone else had a very similar idea to me haha, top down shooters ftw! I loved this game though! Very fun and the gimmick is great. I do wish the difficulty curve was a bit slower, I found myself never being able to get to the rail gun and normally dying around the 150 points mark. Overall, great work!

Loko by Dinaharison 2020-04-20T07:39:43Z

Very cute, very polished, well done! I love the mechanics, it's a great take on the theme and very fun!

A few things though that could really improve the experience: the UI is pretty bad and the pacing isn't too great. -There's no easy restart when you die as the tutorial keeps replaying. -Having a slower tutorial would be nice, it does move very quickly, I could barely read it in time. -The few rounds I played the pacing was somewhat slow, and then all of a sudden it was super fast. A more linear uptick in pace would make this game a killer. -The English was off, maybe have someone check it next time.

Overall great job though! Definitely one of my favorites so far!

TamagotchIT by spyranteros 2020-04-21T03:43:59Z

Fun little game! I do think it could use some pseudorandom generation though, I got balloon 5 times in a row. Amazing job for a first game!

Across the Lake by stephan steinbach 2020-04-20T08:06:21Z

This game is great! There's so many things I would think of keeping alive, but a stone skipping? No way, great use of theme. I was pleasantly surprised that there was more depth to the mechanics then it looked like, the physics were quality and the art and audio were amazing. Easily the best game I've played so far!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Labyrinth by Brendev 2021-04-26T22:15:05Z

Hi all (@twoshoedlou, @orbitalblueprint, @vrerabek), I got the Windows build added (took a bit longer than expected as I had to download Unity for Windows again!). Linux build coming soon and I'll look into web as well, but first I'm making a gameplay video.

I'll be looking at y'alls games soon as well, I'm excited to start playing others :v:

Labyrinth by Brendev 2021-04-27T13:59:22Z

@pkenney thanks for the feedback! In designing the game one of my goals was the try to get the player to explore as I personally love just running around. The world is actually procedurally generated in a completely random fashion, such that once a room is out of sight (3 forward, 1 diagonal, 1 up/down is all in sight), then the room is removed and generated as something else if you try to go to it. The hard part for me was to get the player to be forced to run around (as I do think that is the most fun part of the game). As @andykswong mentioned collectibles would be a good way to do this, but I've personally never been a huge fan of collectibles. Not sure if either of yall have any other ideas for forcing the player to run around?

Also because I ran out of time, there is a very low chance (it's actually never happened to me during testing) that you could get stuck in a room where you cannot escape. So I guess you're the unlucky one lol, but it's a bug in the procedural generation code.

Labyrinth by Brendev 2021-05-01T15:15:59Z

Hey all, thanks for the feedback! I really do appreciate it, and after seeing some play testing from friends as well there's definitely some room for improvement and polish. It's interesting to see how different play styles bring out unintended consequences. I'm looking forward to playing all your games as well

@prodigalson the Minotaur (with the exception of the first round, I wanted to scare people haha, not sure if it worked out though) always spawns 3 rooms away (which is actually the max amount as the world is procedurally generated in a 5x3x5 size). You're the first one who had the issue of him spawning in your face more than once, I'll look into that, it may be a bug (or just the spikes). The Minotaur is also slower than the player, but I've noticed that people don't seem to realize that until a few rounds in. I'm wondering if there's a design choice I could make to make that easier to convey to the player.

@meij I had no idea he could do backflips, guess I should look for bugs a bit better. Maybe if I add to the game I'll make that a new attack.

@goggleskitty I'm glad the spike design worked for someone! When making the game I had the problem were I would always just see the Minotaur's feet and it made the surprise of seeing him a lot less... surprising lol

@crychair So there's actually no levels, the world is just endless and procedural. It's meant to be a highscore arcade style, not a level based game.

Anyways, off to play and rate your games!

DigSweeper by radmccool 2021-05-03T21:25:35Z

A take on 3D minesweeper, I like it! I think the game excels best at the mood it sets. It's very calming. I do think it needs at least 1 more game mechanics though to make it feel complete. I'm not sure what that would be, but I do think the idea of using theological concepts, quotes, and ideas (such as the setting of purgatory which you proposed) would be unique. One of my favorite pieces of literature is Dante's Inferno (and with it Purgatorio and Paridiso), I think this game could be very cool to utilize something like Dante's work. Anyways, great work!

Descent into Madness by danvil 2021-04-27T01:37:25Z

Looks beautiful and the mood is quite relaxing! Though the background wall could use some spicing up, I feel some extra details on it would make this the most beautiful LD game I've played. Great work!

Live Free by ProdigalSon 2021-04-29T00:21:39Z

Had me smiling the whole time! I would love some random generation for increase replayability, but the run I played was a blast. Good work!

Strange Platinum by Poorwill 2021-05-03T21:41:59Z

Like the other a tutorial or text write up would have been great, but overall a fun little game. Great work!

Meltdown, Down, Down by Cruise Elroy 2021-04-27T01:58:11Z

Wow! Very fun game, the only wish is that I could resize the window, but overall I was very impressed. I haven't played that long on an LD game in a while. The difficultly was somewhat hard, took me quite a few rounds to win, but it was definitely worth it, great job! My favorite game so far!

Adventurer of the deep by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2021-04-27T19:07:25Z

Art looks great! Took me a bit to realize I had to buy a turret, it would have been nice to have a weak turret auto enabled. I had to restart the game as the octopus kept spawn killing me. Overall a great game, great work!

Fallen Angel by Eduardo Yukio 2021-05-01T17:40:46Z

Game was a lot of fun, the dualaity of the enemies make the game simple to understand but also quite challenging. I do think the graphics could have been spiced up very easily with some particle effects, background, and some screen shake. Overall, great work!

Through The Crust by sweer 2021-04-27T14:15:24Z

The reverse controls were a lifesaver! Made the game so much easier, I'm glad you added that. Overall I enjoyed it a lot, though I think some more "juice" with screenshake and some particles would put this to another level. Great job!

Trposhi by mira 2021-04-27T14:12:01Z

Fun game! I do think this has a lot of potential with different upgrades and such. With the linear upgrade tree there isn't a ton of variation in upgrades, which could be a really cool way to make each experience different. Overall though I was very impressed, the rhythmic gameplay of sleeping and mining and managing all felt fun and not too difficult. Overall I had a blast playing, good work, please let me know if you add more mechanics in the future, I'd totally play it again!

For King, for Freedom and for Law! by Douwe_Ravers 2021-05-03T21:47:56Z

Loved the history! Very rare to see a game with that. I also found the fighting mechanics to be very unique and quite enjoyable. Maybe it's just me because I'm not familiar with this genre, but definitey was quite a cool and fun experience. As others have mentioned the audio was a bit rough and I do wish there was more polish at times (particles, screenshake, animations, etc.), but all that is the labor intensive part and tough to get done in such a short amount of time. Overall great job, this game is dope!

ScanR by CharlieGray 2021-04-28T14:13:43Z

The scanner mechanic was great fun, and the usage of lights to help as a tutorial in certain parts was great design. I'm glad the game was forgiving, because I died more than I'd care to admit. Great job!

Deep Space by Cole Hutson 2021-04-27T02:10:25Z

I was much more impressed than I thought I would be. The game starts off looking like a variant on those generic endless space shooter games, but there's a gem here instead. The game mechanics are actually very interesting and I found myself engaged the entire time, it's an interesting mix of almost an idle stats based game with a space shooter. I played till I maxed out all the stats, I never figured out what government influence does though. Overall I was very impressed, a bit of spicing up the graphics (particle effects and such) and adding some sounds and this game would something I'd play on my phone. Great game!

How Low Can you Go by SaeedPrez 2021-05-01T17:26:55Z

Great work on the atmosphere, good job!

Nostril Navigator by Xenon27 2021-04-28T14:18:28Z

Great use of theme! The sound design... yuck!

Tropical Singer by Kevin S 2021-05-03T21:36:46Z

Wow, very impressed by the game itself! I'm pretty garbage at music and would have little idea where to even start for something like this. I did also struggle a lot playing the game, I was a bit confused at the start when I was supposed to press the buttons. I guess not only do I not have musical talent, I'm also not super familiar with this genre. Needless to say it took me quite a while to get over 100 points. I guess for those without musical talent a tutorial would be nice lol. But after I figured it out the game was a lot more fun, good work!

Asterisk by Crychair 2021-05-01T15:40:16Z

Great work! Just like others I did find that the bombs could use a bit of work, digging through them kinda defeats the purpose of them and they also seemed to blow up different amounts each time which was mildly confusing at first. The art, sounds, and humor are top notch though, great job!

Where's my dynoMITE? [LD48] by miej 2021-05-01T15:32:00Z

Hilarious game, the graphics need a bit of spicing up but the mechanics were solid. I would recommend in adding more humor, it seems to be the strong point of the game. Just an example on what I mean, instead of rocks in the way, make it giant inflatable chickens.

Deepest Mine by SmelJey 2021-05-03T21:44:20Z

I'm trying to play on WebGL (running in Firefox on Linux Mint). It's not working, any ideas? I click play and nothing happens... The game sounds quite fun and I'd love to try it.

Treasure Hunter by Scrawach 2021-05-01T17:46:24Z

Very fun game, though I had an issue where the game was super dark on the web version. Not sure if that's intentional but I couldn't see most of the level. The lit areas were great to explore and the dialogue was funny, good work on this!
