I am not sure if the game just broke on me, or if it was the way it was intended, but the first music track was a... long one, with like a second passing between the notes, and only occasionally throwing a series of button press requirements at me, with no musing tone changing to accompaty the moments of button pressing. ((Isn't it the point of rythm games that the button presses should sync up with the music rythm?))
Anyway I suffered through the first level, got like 95% accuracy, and then the seconde level began... but forgot to bring any music or button presses with it.

Hi thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback.
The game does start out slowly but it gets faster and faster as the voice goes deeper in tone. Maybe it starts out too slowly for a game jam game?
The songs are also randomized and sometimes it picks a slower style and sometimes faster.
Sorry to hear about the second level. That must be a bug that crops up occasionally as I haven't seen that during my testing.
Thanks again trying the game!

Well done, I liked the story and the singing was funny. The first level was long, I thought it was an endless track. I don't know if levels after level 2 use the side keys but I wished the first 2 used them.

Thanks for playing.
I made the game so that you could play it for a long time and so it gets progressively more difficult. By the end you have to deal with 8 keys... maybe progressive difficulty is a good idea for a game jam.
Thanks again for playing!
The story was funny, and the graphics were good.
The levels felt really long though, I think the first ones specially should be shorter since they are very easy.
Good job!

Thank you! Yes maybe the levels are too long... 48 hours wasn't enough to do everything I wanted to do including enough testing.
Thanks again for playing! :-)

I was really hoping to see a rhythm game and here we are! Thanks for making this!
Nice game! Although the level where to large.

The pace of the game picks up as you go deeper and deeper into the voice... hehe..
But maybe it is too slow to keep people engaged from the beginning. I will keep that in mind for future work.
Thanks guys!

@kernon @rufusdrop @glowglew Did you create a game for this year's contest? I went to your profile but couldn't see any games. I'm a newbie...

I think if you go to a user's profile and click the 'games' button/tab at the top, you'll see their games.

Very very interesting concept. I got like a score of 500 with an accuracy of 83% in the first level. I felt like the music did not always change when I pressed buttons, so sometimes the buttons do not actually match the rhythm.

Great take on the theme! Although I expected all melodies to go down.

Nice, a rhythm game. While I did not manage to get past the first level (failed, always, but I am notoriously bad at rhythm games).. I noticed the score does not reset? But cool idea, really. Great job!

@hilkojj Thank you for playing the game! Yes I only had 48 hours and I went overboard on some things. Definitely some things could have been done better. The game gets more fun if you can manage to keep playing it haha. Thanks again!
@hypp Thank you so much! Every level the sounds gets deeper and deeper. It starts to get really really low (deep), but it takes a while to get there  Thanks again for playing.
@zondarg Thank you for playing! Yes I was torn between making the player start over or just continuing since there are so many levels and it would take forever to get to the end if your progress was reset. It already takes a looong time to get to the end haha. Thanks again!
@the-g Thank you very much for playing the game. 48 hours isn't enough time

Yeah 48 hours isn't much. You could still update the game afterwards (just don't update your ludum dare entry here). How did you generate the music?
interesting concept! i like the story and the graphics. i think the game would benefit from some more conventional rhythm game mechanics, like having the buttons actually tied to different points of emphasis in the song. sometimes a downbeat in the music would hit with no button press, or id have to press a button on a rest note in the song. i don't know how you are procedurally generating the music, but maybe make sure that the button presses are made with the music in mind? overall nice, probably just needs a bit more time and testing, which is hard in a jam :)

2021-04-26 17:46
The music gets progressively deeper with each level, is this pre-written or procedurally generated? All in all, well done!
kevin-s
2021-04-26 17:50
@hilkojj I recorded samples of myself singing notes and then made some code that would play the notes in the right sequences to generate (basically) music. 48 hours was definitely not enough and I could do so much more but now I'm burned out on the idea haha

2021-04-26 17:51
@squigglez Thank you so much for playing. You are exactly right. I had almost no time to test it was all a big blur. The music is 100% procedurally generated from samples of single notes that I sang. I agree with the rhythms lining up. I know what I did wrong and how to fix it, but it is too late! Thanks again for playing!
kevin-s
2021-04-26 17:52
@appix The music is all generated by the computer from samples of my voice. I sang single notes at various pitches and then use Unity to change the pitch of the samples and play them in a sequence to make "music". Nothing is pre recorded or decided. The chord structure, bass line, and melody of the music is all made each time differently from scratch.

The story is really funny, I love the tone of it. Told discreetly but very well done. I do think like other comments said that the rhythm is a tad slow to evolve for a jam game. Overall really charmed by the personality of your game !

@alexhall Thank you very much for playing. I had something much much better planned for the story and the humour but sadly ran out of time :-(. Thanks again for playing!

Awesome!! I love the idea- and procedurally generated music is crazy! Got some Friday Night Funkin vibes w/ the instruments XD
Good Job! :v:

2021-04-26 20:53
@slimabob Thank you so much! The instruments are actually just recordings of my voice singing different pitches and different vowel sounds. To be honest it could be so much better... but for that darn 48 hour thing
I'm not really happy with the final music but oh well....
Thanks again for playing!
Funny and pretty looking rhythm game. I must admit the "music/singing" is a bit annoying after a while, but hey! 48h is short. Also, the game is quite long, for an evaluation. I must admit I didn't reach the end (I went only up to 5 notes).

@slowfrog-again Thank you for playing. Yes the samples that I used to make the music were rushed... heck so was the code that generated the music. All in all it could have been much better but ... 48 hours
This was my first game jam and I had in mind that people would want to play complete games so I made it like 60 levels long... oops hahaha.. at least you tried it!
Thanks again!

far FAR too loud

2021-04-27 02:31
@msipp27 Yes I was playing multiple samples in Unity and not sure how that mixes... definitely could have used more refinement. Thank you for playing.. hope your hearing is still intact
The concept is over the top funny! I hope I never get held against my will to sing in real life lol.

It was very similar feeling when I listen to my 4 years old daughter playing on her toy-piano :D I'm not sure I got the point of this game, but was an interesting one :)

2021-04-27 12:44
@mudlee Thank you for playing. The point was to attempt to make procedurally generated music and mix that with a rhythm game. But then 48 hours happened

Music was really nice to listen to. I would have liked to see more variation in arrow directions, and some other mechanics added. The theme was really cool but the gameplay did not seem fully fleshed out. Definitely can imagine a really cool game based on the idea of a person singing and developing their voice. well done.
kevin-s
2021-04-28 15:04
@rhoff95 Thank you for playing! The game gets progressively difficult which I learned is not a good idea for a game jam. By the end you have to deal with 8 keys. Having said that the 48 hour time limit didn't help either
Thanks again!
Nice job!
One of the more original concepts in this jam, if not in the greater gamescape.
I enjoyed the interface graphics (the keys to press etc). I didnt understand the picture of the guys face (which at one point turned into a skull). Were you trying to dictate which part of your head singing that key utilizes? It didnt seem to have a gameplay impact so just confused me.
My main comment is this would have been enormously better if there was an audible beat. I liked the procedural music and found it mostly pleasant, but would have loved a beat to help get into the songs and to drive the rhythm. Thats what its about right?
Anyways, just a thought.
Thanks for participating.
Hey thats a cool rhythm matching game! I love DDR style games and its nice to see someone went for it on the jam

Wow, very impressed by the game itself! I'm pretty garbage at music and would have little idea where to even start for something like this. I did also struggle a lot playing the game, I was a bit confused at the start when I was supposed to press the buttons. I guess not only do I not have musical talent, I'm also not super familiar with this genre. Needless to say it took me quite a while to get over 100 points. I guess for those without musical talent a tutorial would be nice lol. But after I figured it out the game was a lot more fun, good work!

Nice adaptation of the theme, really innovative! It's also super impressive that you manage to make such a long rythm game all alone in 48 hours, you can be proud of yourself! I really like the landscape changing gradually as I progress through all the levels, such a nice touch :) The story was a bit silly, I loved it! Going through all the body parts was a bit confusing at first but it really emphasize the "going deeper" concept in my opinion, nice touch!
However, the music at the very beginning of the game was way too loud for me, and too high pitched :/ Also, the first levels were a bit too easy and/or repetitive to me, maybe you could change the pacing of the notes to make these levels more interesting? Having more and more notes was a great idea to increase difficulty, it got quite challenging for me in the last levels! I could not reach the end of the game though, it was getting too long for me D: (I didn't expect it to last this long, super impressive for a game jam game!), I went to the Left Kidney level I believe.
I really like the graphics (felt like vacation!), however I think the keys we had to press did not really match the style of the rest of the game. Maybe changing them to a more "pixellated" version could improve the consistency of your game? Also, I think it would be nice to add some features to add more dynamism during a level, like combo or bonuses, maybe? I'm not that familiar with rythm game in general, sorry I cannot be more precise!
Once again, good job on your entry :)
This is a great take on a relatively simple premise. I liked that the music was generated procedurally although the voicing was a bit abrasive at time. The art and especially the small details like the sun rising slowly and the inset with which "body part" you were singing from were very well done.
One thing I noticed was that it didn't really distinguish between perfectly timed notes and slightly off ones, it was just an all or nothing hit or miss type deal. It would have been nice to have some more variance there. It would also have been nice to have some kind of percussive backing to help keep rhythm.
Very interesting experience, and certainly the best sound I have heard during the jam (and procedurally generated? Wow). I do think that the game suffers from extremely slow pacing. I made it to the lung before giving up. A lot of cool features get introduced throughout the levels, so introduce them sooner! I understand that because of how the game is structured, it makes sense for there to be a lot of levels, so, because of this, it may be a good idea to either reduce the length of the levels or put multiple octaves into each level. But again, 48 hours is nothing, and you definitely went above and beyond for this :D
