LD48 — Deeper and deeper

drillerROBOT by Yamzho 2021-04-28T16:17:21Z

Very clean look. Good audio atmosphere. Reasonable game mechanics. Well done!

One thing that could be improved: the text on cards is pretty small. Combined with the lack of ability to resize, it's slightly annoying. Nothing game-breaking and could be fixed afterwards, more or less easily depending on your engine.

Hole Town by dob 2021-04-29T09:12:54Z

Quite a polished gem of a game  with a nice twist on the old match-3 mechanics.

I'll second @doommustard comment that the different sizes are not easily compared, but that could be fixed in a post-jam game (make the difference more obvious, add a number on the gem, preview where the gem will go).

Very pleasant experience nonetheless and definitely style points for parentheses legs.

Le bateau ivre by thebmxeur 2021-04-29T14:00:49Z

Le bateau n'était pas le seul à être ivre, apparemment :) (The boat was not alone being drunk)

I'm not sure I would call it a game, but it's a pretty experience.

Need more deep: Donut cover by Kurakurture 2021-04-26T21:47:40Z

Same as above: very nice looking with an interesting approach. Too short, but 48h is too short anyway ;)

Pagemage by OrbitalBlueprint 2021-04-26T17:02:41Z

Excellent. Simple but polished.

The Fool's Descent by NicMagnier 2021-04-26T09:23:45Z

Pretty slick game! The first time I got stuck because I burned a skeleton in the middle of a small corridor. And since they're permanent, I had no possibility to make any more progress.

Fallumns by Logan 2021-04-30T11:19:00Z

What is this game????

I mean, at first I thought "Hey, those gems that look like bricks are going to be difficult to distinguish from the walls... Wait... could they match...

Very very nice.

The Last Spores by pestodesign 2021-04-26T22:11:11Z

Very pretty and stylish. The "game" element is a bit weak, though. There's not much choice and the results depend more on chance than skill. Still very enjoyable.

Dive by seanarooni 2021-04-29T09:22:38Z

Bad bad fishy! You deserve to be slapped hard with a submarine! All 33 of you!

Only minor gripe: that the sub cannot move to the borders of the screen, which makes some fish totally impossible to hit.

I have to go now, more :fish: to  !

Freg, Fregg, and Freggy: The Last Band by Honest Dan 2021-04-28T14:59:08Z

The audio and visuals are stunning. I don't know how much you already had before the jam, but it's quite incredible. Please, make a full game out of this.

Only possible improvement for me: the volume of the voices was a bit low, compared to the music.

Obelisk by caeonosphere 2021-04-29T09:46:19Z

It took me more time than I want to admit to understand that I was supposed to jump into that hole in the first pre-level :grimacing:

Very nice experience after that, discovering the mechanics and powers of enemies and upgrades. Reminded me a bit of DROD, when you need to *dance* with enemies at a distance to get to a favorable position.

Jupiter Drop by plexium.nerd 2021-04-27T22:37:47Z

The simple graphics are quite nice, and the principle is well implemented.

As said before, there's not much to do during the drop, or even during H2 collection, except waiting for the right time to reel up. A faster pace would make the game more fun: maybe less rewards for each descent, but a quicker turnaround time, to keep the player engaged.

Madman - The Crazy Scientist by mudlee 2021-04-26T07:31:18Z

I got the same violation on Windows but found a way to run the game manually. 1) I downloaded a version of Java from OpenJDK at https://jdk.java.net/16/ 2) I unzipped the content of the Java archive to a directory, something like d:\soft\jdk-16.0.1 3) From a command shell, I went to the Madman directory 4) And ran: "d:\soft\jdk-16.0.1\bin\java -jar .\app\desktop-1.0.1.jar

Hope that helps.

Madman - The Crazy Scientist by mudlee 2021-04-26T12:15:10Z

Yep! The new build works. (I already played the game with my manual workaround)

BLU by JGUR 2021-05-04T22:00:34Z

Classic run/upgrade loop. Works well. It gets a bit repetitive after a few dives, but fortunately the bottom is not so deep, so it doesn't take hours to get the treasure.

Bonus points for the light effect (I'm a bit jealous. I had that in mind for my own game, but 1. I don't know how to do it yet, 2. I didn't get to develop my game enough to reach a point where it would have been useful).

Chthonic Brilliance by cassowary 2021-04-28T06:48:00Z

I can't resist a game like this. The pixel art animations are fantastic and an example on how to do things with very few colors and pixels. I don't know if I'll look at the code, but I'll certainly dissect the frames of the moving blob.

Chthonic Brilliance by cassowary 2021-04-28T20:42:15Z

I've had a look at the spritesheet. With a bit more time, I bet we would have had ice blocks and aliens too. :snowflake: :alien:

Deep Space by Too_Lazy_Cat 2021-04-27T08:52:40Z

Aaaaaahhh, a spaceship with teeth!!! I can't help laughing.

Excavatris Inc. by Neon Glass 2021-04-29T15:40:25Z

What year is it??? I'm still playing Tetris (and enjoying it).

The changing music is a nice touch, made me want to keep on playing to reach the next one. The one I got from level 51 to 80 sounded like a variation on the Mission: Impossible theme, and was very good.

Little Lost Sheep by Hydezeke 2021-04-27T15:36:12Z

Nice story with beautiful music.

Did you make is all in the 72h or did you have a base game to start from?

Mine Flower by Denzil Gomes 2021-04-27T15:48:53Z

Very nice start/prototype of a game. The mechanic works well enough.

One thing that needs improvement is to "register" the hits on doors, gems and enemies. For now, you're not even sure you're hitting until, after several hits, the thing breaks. Adding sound and visual effects would greatly enhance those interactions.

Derelict Dive by tetrapteryx 2021-04-26T21:44:10Z

Quite a nice game, visually and in its mood. I must admit the mechanics about grabbing the O2 canister to progress is not very clear. I understand it's difficult with such time constraints to make a tutorial or add in-game instructions. Consider adding clarifications in the game page (here).

Into The Depths by Nisovin 2021-04-27T09:56:52Z

I'm definitely going to read the source of this one! Excellent entry.

Rocket Fishing by slam0 2021-04-26T20:17:02Z

Nice game mechanic.

Possible visual improvment: make the movement of the camera a bit less jarring at the moment when you throw the spear.

Descend by DevParty 2021-04-26T12:25:42Z

Sorry, but the game doesn't seem to launch in Chrome.

Bad Faith by Craig Cordeiro 2021-04-28T14:37:22Z

Nice story.

I think I caught a "typo" in Part 1: when choosing "Acceptance" three times, the interlocutor switches from Walter to Hector (probably wrong), to Walter again.

Unsoiled by MiniBetrayal 2021-04-28T12:01:18Z

Very nice. I would have left a review earlier, were I not busy trying to reach the million :)

You could add a lot of extra content, polish, etc, but the most important thing is to keep that game loop as slick as it currently is (pun intended).

One extra tip: add numerical values to the upgrades, like "+5% more frequent oil" or something. It would help the optimization geeks around to compute how much they value or compare upgrade items.

Deep Space by Crazy32 2021-04-26T12:43:11Z

itch.io page is 404. Maybe you didn't make it public?

Dungeon Slide by DotSquare 2021-04-30T19:23:14Z

Clever idea and pretty good implementation.

However, I don't know how far the mechanic can go. It's novel and fun but I'm afraid there are two competing contraints: the possible trajectories that depend on walls, bouncing balls, etc. and the enemies. It almost felt like enemies were actually guiding me to find the right trajectory to the exit. I'd be glad to be proven wrong, though.

Way Down We Go by Slowfrog Again 2021-04-26T21:55:44Z

Thanks all for playing. As for the content of the game: if you got the six trophies, you've seen it all.

Way Down We Go by Slowfrog Again 2021-04-27T08:26:56Z

@too-lazy-cat, @nivosin My initial plan was for a game in three distinct acts, that let you go deeper and deeper in mystery and in yourself. And even in the first act, you were supposed to have a fish-o-dex, with different species of fish to gather. As you can understand from the actual result, time was a bit short to make it happen so I decided to wrap up with what I had.

Way Down We Go by Slowfrog Again 2021-04-30T20:00:47Z

@caeonosphere, @emeraldboy44, @dotsquare The achievements are basically the only thing that make this a *game*. If it weren't for those, you'd be left with an animated sprite that can move  I've been learning Godot for a few weeks, so I'm not very fluent with it, but I'm still glad with my limited result. Hopefully I'll be more prepared in October for LD49.

Thanks all for playing and rating.

Moss Light by Zykra 2021-04-27T15:00:05Z

Interesting mix. Made me think of Dungeon of the Endless.

Things on screen were very small, though. Even some text was barely legible and the window in not resizable. I understand 48h is short, but maybe something to improve later or for the next game.

Pirifurm DCleaner by emeraldboy44 2021-04-30T14:58:56Z

The physics/dynamics of jumps is surprising and doesn't seem totally predictable (some jumps go higher than others).

But I never thought it would be that fun to erase cache files.

Tropical Singer by Kevin S 2021-04-26T21:54:51Z

Funny and pretty looking rhythm game. I must admit the "music/singing" is a bit annoying after a while, but hey! 48h is short. Also, the game is quite long, for an evaluation. I must admit I didn't reach the end (I went only up to 5 notes).

Into The Depths by Jason Wilson 2021-04-28T21:19:05Z

Very good overall.

I actually regretted buying the flippers as I found it more difficult to control my trajectories (longer effect of [space] with longer cooldown), especially when trying to shoot at jellyfish. And I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I didn't see I could shoot at things until I realized there was a weapon shop on the other side.

And yes to the above: having heart bonuses along the way would be great for a final version of the game.

But there's one philosophical question that I still have in mind:

Panda Prize Pusher by PhthaloGold 2021-04-27T11:18:06Z

@tim77 I got mine for exactly $300. You've been abused. Otherwise very pleasant and polished game, in all aspects.

I'm not so sure about the moving platforms: they add a bit of difficulty, but the only way to deal with them is simply to wait for the right opening. So they just add "delay", which, as a player, I don't like much.

LD48 - Just Breathe by Geniye 2021-04-26T20:36:40Z

The instructions on this page make the game a bit more clear. The red vignetting is a bit too subtle to indicate expected breathing rhythm, I think.

Not so sure about the *relaxing* aspect, but definitely addictive. May I guess that you voted for the "You have one tool" theme?

The fact that dead bodies stay in place is great. They help a lot.
