LD39 — Running out of Power

Azrellian Asteroid Field by KunoNoOni 2017-08-04T04:21:30Z

Fun game. Fairly simple, but cute with the sound effects and the setup. I got to 1331 and I think I saw several of each powerup. The warps seemed to make scoring into basically how many warps did you find rather than how good are you at the game. It reminded me a lot of the old Ambrosia Software games for Mac from the 1990's that also had cute sounds and simple arcade-based gameplay with a variety of power-ups. Nice work!

RagooP! by Igor KinGamer 2017-08-11T01:56:24Z

Very creative take on the theme, and a frantic mechanic of keeping powered up. I liked how the power made you stronger and also killed you, ever faster. I found the game way too hard to enjoy. I stuck it out for the first few levels, but then I wasn't willing to keep trying the later ones over and over.

Planet Drifter by Eldy 2017-08-02T16:29:06Z

Beautiful and well conceived. The very mushy rotational controls on the ship made it way too frustrating - I would prefer the ability to do much finer adjustments. The interface and visual communication (rings around planets, simple controls with feedback on screen) was great. I loved that you could use the asteroids to shed momentum - I initially thought they'd kill me.

Recoil - Mike Said No Short Titles by Cynical Monkey 2017-08-02T18:02:57Z

Cool idea, fun puzzles. Not a ton of complexity to the puzzle mechanics, so it got repetitive after a bit. Sound is good, but the music got a bit irritating. Interface is mostly great - a hint that you could go the other way with right mouse would have saved me some time. Some of the time values don't show more than one digit, which is likely just a number formatting issue. Restart level would be cool. Good work!

The Fallen by CliffracerX 2017-07-31T23:28:49Z

Creative and interesting. I had some interface trouble - it was hard to figure out how to build things and connect them, with buttons serving several functions depending on gun mode, and there were some undocumented bits (like mouse wheel to scroll through building options). I was unable to shoot things near me - they had to be 5-6 feet away before the bullets would actually hurt them. I like the art and the premise, and it worked well for me.

Musk Hunter by LandoSystems 2017-08-03T22:34:07Z

Fun game! Very reminiscent of spy hunter, although without Peter Gunn. I liked the power-up system, although it was pretty much keep playing and you'll win eventually. I would have liked a little more feedback on the boss cars - a health bar, or some indication they were damaged when I hit. Very nice work - a fun game, and great art and sounds. I like how we're now progressive enough to have our girlfriend be president, but not progressive enough that she doesn't need rescuing, or that we are rescuing a boyfriend. :-P

Scorched Earth by Rogue Studios 2017-07-31T21:25:08Z

I played this one a lot longer than the others. Fun Mad Max style game with intuitive driving controls. Firing was less intuitive - I really don't like the WASD/mouse aim style, and this is the fourth of five games to have it. But it worked here. Art style is great, with extras like the tire marks, clouds of dust, and broken car parts. Sound is fine. I didn't like the fact that the shots were lasers, and that the enemy cars had such long range and instant-hit capability. I was shot from off-screen a lot, which is very difficult to respond to. Also, there's not really a plot, although I appreciated that your car mods survived after your death. Fun game - best I've looked at so far.

The Hard Life of Egg Robots by Noxalus 2017-07-31T20:56:45Z

Super hard game. The robots were cute, and it functioned well. Not much variety, as the robots come mostly from the same place. I went several whole games without seeing a battery, and movement drained power so much, that I think my highest scoring efforts were just sitting at the start shooting the cascading eggs. I got stuck in the middle chamber several times with no way out, which was a bit frustrating. A good effort, and I did lose by running out of power.

I hate Snakes! by mennchen22 2017-08-07T18:30:03Z

Fun environment and world, and I enjoyed running around and finding powerups. A little frustrating to die randomly (rather than by snake contact or poor choices), but I guess that was how you expressed theme part. It would be cooler to have more guidance about how to get out, or more good decision points to make rather than just having to play 8-10 times to find the way out. Music was catchy and fun. Nice work!

Jumping Jehosaphat by jharler 2017-08-02T17:02:21Z

Really great! I loved the mechanic, the use of light and hidden space, and the sounds and graphics. Very fun game. I finished in 187 - not sure if that's good or not. Level 7 was a bear. Very well done.

Tycoon by dob 2017-07-31T21:27:20Z

Sorry about the bug @stormforce02 - I didn't have a lot of time to playtest, and I was trying right up until the end to fix a bug where cubes wouldn't explode when clicked. I think the skull math is wrong - you need to get one more to win than it shows - but I'm not sure. Thanks for playing it.

- Update - I found the bug and posted a bug fix in accordance with the compo rules. Sorry again about the issue.

Tycoon by dob 2017-08-02T13:45:59Z

Thanks for the useful and kind comments, folks. To @kodiqi: The hearts don't have an effect. Tycoons don't need love, and wouldn't recognize it...

Tycoon by dob 2017-08-05T05:44:41Z

Hi, @johnnwfs - thanks for the kind words. The cubes should be non-colliding after registering as having fallen into the bin, but maybe I should check on that.

Tycoon by dob 2017-08-16T05:56:54Z

Thanks for the video review, @satanos! Very cool.

Low Battery by MaggardJosh 2017-08-03T04:58:05Z

Cool puzzles, nice graphics, engaging sound and music. The game did get frozen up once on level 16 after dying a lot. You let us pick starting level, which is great, so no big deal. I did get through all 20. Very nice work.

Asteroids by MianaGames 2017-08-01T16:54:35Z

Fun game - a hybrid of Asteroids and Space Invaders. Tough - it took me about 20 tries to win it. I liked the controls and the music. It seemed a little unfair that more asteroids showed up in a direct line with you - it felt like they should be random - but maybe that was needed for the challenge. Nice work - a fun one.

Last Sunset by piscythe 2017-08-02T18:58:37Z

Very cool visual style and artwork, and I love the Egyptian connection. I didn't read about the nova button until my second playthrough, so that was useful then. I also didn't realize that only bullets hurt me,not collisions with guys. The music was really great, and I liked the three different weapon types and the lighting fading with increased damage, although that tended to make your death happen even faster. I found the game very hard, although I think if I played it more I would get better. Very nice work with this - it looks and sounds crisp and very professional in-game.

Runner Out Of Power by Mathiouza 2017-08-03T15:37:30Z

Music and art style are the strong points. Game was simple, and I found it frustrating. It was hard, and the reset cycle was so long, with a required level selection step that didn't really add anything, that I wasn't enjoying it. I think I'd rather have seen it more like DDR, i.e. you don't die with every error, but count errors and get a grade, and you need a high grade or perfect score to advance to the next round. I liked the pixely art and the cinematic cutscene pieces. Nice work.

Mech Core by ShadowyXP Games 2017-07-31T20:50:22Z

I enjoyed this game. The art for the ships is really neat - I love the spinny sword guys. The diversity of opponent ships wasn't immediately apparent, but it was very cool as they each emerged. Keyboard and mouse controls like this are a little hard to wrangle. Some instructions would help - i.e., initially I didn't know that the central thing was a power gauge, or that the power eggs could be stolen, and I didn't know if my central energy dropped when I shot, or when I took damage, or just declined over time. A nice effort and impressive for the time available.

Artax by Flaterectomy 2017-08-02T17:53:00Z

Looks beautiful, sound and animation are great, music and visual theme are very cool. I love the little birds taking flight and the particle effects. I swear, though, I have gotten to the point in my life, after playing video games for 30+ years, where I never again want to have to jump a character onto a tiny, unforgiving platform and risk starting over a whole level because I miss one jump. Dying 40+ times like this, often with 30+ seconds of play lost, killed the game for me. On the very first level, I had to land the same jumps perfectly a second time after getting the battery, and had to start over AGAIN and AGAIN when I missed. No need for it to be this hard - a pointless challenge that doesn't advance story or anything. Instadeath from the brown shower, with no warning, losing me a minute of painstaking play I had to repeat, was likewise annoying. Just way too hard. I really wanted to like it, and I love the art, the character ideas and interactions, the theme implementation with the batteries, and the environment, but the game was not fun at all for me.

Revolution by wicked7000 2017-08-01T20:40:15Z

Cool game. I think there's a lot of promise here. I like the art, the roguelike aspect where you go fight guys and steal their loot, and where you have an economy and gear to buy, but as of now it has little challenge. A good start, though, and functions well. One note - the bandages never cost me $50 - it was always a lower price, around $15, but it didn't seem consistent.

Defend Home: Mars by sgt3v 2017-08-01T04:40:28Z

Very cool visuals and game execution. The web version was too slow to be playable for me, with big jumps in controls. I loved the ant art, and the visual style was just great. The music is simple but works, and the architecture/modeling is a lot of fun. As others said, some indication that you've hit an ant would be great - especially from a long distance, it was hard to know if you had any success or not. Very nice work.

Emergency Evacuation by spacewarp 2017-08-03T06:15:56Z

Very cool - I love the turn-based games rather than yet another shooter or platformer. Very clever and complex system with just a few parts and rules. Very fun puzzle. Nice looking, with a great interface design too. Some better sounds would be more immersive. Nice work!

Battery Penetrates by ToadieTechnika 2017-08-05T15:18:05Z

I feel . . . dirty, somehow. :-) Took me several plays to even figure out what I was doing, or why I was dying, which I did in several different ways. So, clearer instructions would help. I was bad at it - only got one battery baby in about 20 plays and didn't understand why or what to do. Visually very crisp, and the sound and music were great. Nice work.

RooP by Genpaku 2017-08-19T05:21:26Z

How many gears does this car have? :-) Fun car chase, although very simple. I couldn't figure out what the chasing cop cars did to me. Other obstacles seemed to just take energy. The game was easy - I played forever on my second game with no real risk of losing. Music and background sound got a little monotonous. Multi-layer graphics were cool. Nice work!

Supplice by Vegevan 2017-08-03T15:51:16Z

Good art, music, and very funny humorous (humerus?) dialog with the characters. I liked having a different mechanic to work with in a platform game. Here's the thing, though - I generally don't like platformers where the jumps are difficult and the cost for missing them is high, and I found that here. Redoing a bunch of hard, time-consuming stuff that you've already mastered is not fun, so when I have to replay a complex level just to get back to the piece I screwed up the first time, I really lose interest. Games that have frequent save points, or a chance to rewind time, are more fun for me. I realize other people like hard platformers and cherish the need to make a perfect run, but not me. But, I enjoyed the concept, the text, the art, the music, the characters, the mechanics - just got frustrated with gameplay.

Core Defender by Spexxilove 2017-07-31T21:04:35Z

Slick looking, and effective 3D in a 2D game, although the enemy ships didn't quite fit the style of the other art. Controls were a little wonky. It was never worth going for the power dropped at the top. I wasn't clear on the nature of all the powerups - blue restored core power, yellow was rapid fire. The difficulty ramped up sooo much at about 48-50 seconds, which was a little frustrating. Cool-looking, appropriate sounds, nice work.

Classic Games: Getting On by loveapplegames 2017-08-04T22:46:49Z

Fun trip down memory lane. The levels got pretty darn hard. I couldn't figure out how to use the walker in the Donkey Kong senior mode - it didn't seem to do anything to the barrels. The others made sense. The Qbert level where you switched the tiles back every time you landed was very hard. Nice work!

All Systems Online by stormforce02 2017-08-02T16:14:03Z

Really great - one of the most fun I've played. I loved designing ships and figuring out good combinations. It would have been fun to have higher-powered versions of the various parts, so you could maintain a smaller footprint on the ship while still being powerful. Even when my ship got big, it was slow to fight others, and most of the battle consisted of plonking away at the core. So, a faster pace and more powerful stuff (plus some sounds) and this would be completely awesome, instead of merely awesome. Very nice work. I'm so impressed.ship.png

Dance On The Wire by foodzilla 2017-08-11T06:56:49Z

Cool idea, and great music. The symbology was sleek, but not entirely clear on what you could do or not. I wasn't ever sure really how much energy I had or how I was doing. When I ran into other moving circle creatures, they mostly seemed to take points before I did. Not really sure what was going on there. But, it has great visual style, a mostly obvious control system, and good music. Just not all that clear (even with the tutorial) what good moves are or what all the symbols and mechanisms mean.

Robot Is Powerless by Swynfel 2017-08-11T02:12:25Z

Nice work with interesting puzzles, presented well and with growing difficulty. Nice music track. I didn't know I could wait in place, which was key to level 2, so that messed me up for a while. Not really complete with so few levels, but a promising concept. I like logic puzzles like this.

SSSNAKESSS! by kevinworkman 2017-08-01T02:07:39Z

Very cool to see the other players. I have never felt so connected to humanity while playing Snake. The loading screen took way longer than 15 seconds. No connection to the theme, but a fun description and page, and an interesting technological/human psychology demo. Play on Huge to really appreciate the hive mind.

Snake out of Power by Anno 2017-08-03T06:46:26Z

I got 12 on my best run, then I missed a battery as the lights went out. I guess my strategy became to grab 2-3 batteries for every food I ate, because that kept everything visible. Fun adaptation of a classic. Sounds were a little harsh. I enjoyed the experience; nice work.

The Crown Prince by Baby Dino Herd 2017-08-11T02:03:42Z

Original concept, and frantic gameplay. Fun music and graphics, and simple intuitive controls. It was really hard to know exactly how much to slow down to trigger the trade, and that was a little frustrating - I wasn't sure that should be such a critical decision, because failing to slow enough essentially made levels unwinnable, so one mistake=death. On my screen, the coins weren't different colored enough to distinguish easily (not sure if it was the lighting or what) to really pick, and some of them seemed to get distributed off the screen at times. Different shapes or hues might help here. I found the game a little too hard for my tastes, and would have preferred some warm-up levels rather than diving right in at a fairly hard level.

LD39 Compo: Trindle Armored Defense by vkmicro 2017-08-03T16:07:07Z

Fun game! I chose the slow tank first and got murdered pretty fast, but I hadn't figured out how the base nova worked. The fast tank was more fun, and getting hit isn't an issue if you stay in the bubble. I found it fairly easy - even when the tanks got a lot stronger, I was always at 180-250 energy and could afford a nova. The abrupt end was a surprise - I had 284 points, so I'm not sure what triggered it. Menus and instructions were clear, controls were intuitive (except for remembering the 'f' key), and sounds were appropriate and used well. Nice work.

Short Lived by Matt Fabius 2017-08-03T04:17:07Z

Well-executed platform game without a lot of complexity other than the battery part. A little frustrating to have to start over all the time. The art was cute and effective, and the plot/story at the start was a nice touch, although the dialog should be able to be clicked or keyed through - I read a lot faster than it was presented. Nice work!

Salvage! by frankiesmileshow 2017-08-07T05:59:59Z

Very detailed game with tons of power-ups and an elaborate two-mode way to play. I thought it was a little too slow-paced - I floated around to about 10 different places and found parts, but I wasn't ever really challenged, and I had to shoot things a million times to kill them. The powerups only helped a little - the strong ones, you get so few of them you can't really do much. I wasn't clear initially what I was going for, so some positive feedback or more direction would help. I thought I was getting benefit from shooting the sparky boxes, but I'm not sure of that. Obviously the big part in the center of the salvage spaces was important, because it changed your mass a lot, but it wasn't clear what getting that did or how it worked. But, a very thorough game with amazingly extensive content, monsters, weapons, screens, etc. Nice work.

Repair-5054 by elliottd 2017-08-01T21:21:21Z

I really liked this. Great looking, and the robot plot is engaging, with a sympathetic heroine and semi-deep story even in this brief narrative space. The mechanics are clear, the models interesting and well-animated, and the overall look and feel very cool and consistent. Very nice work.

Power Tower by AncientEntity 2017-08-02T05:49:05Z

Cute and fun, but not a lot to it. I didn't find bananas in six playthroughs - maybe I was doing it wrong? Anyway, a complete game with menu and high scores, so good on that.

Harvest And Extract by Kthulhu1947 2017-08-03T17:38:30Z

Fun exploration game. I enjoyed driving my Mystery Machine around the map. I could almost imagine being asked to stop for Scooby Snacks. There was very little challenge, as others have said. I also should not have teleported from the bottom :-). The sounds for driving around were very repetitive, and there wasn't much to do other than hunt for oil. Some other kinds of choices, or enemies, or something, would have made it a little more engaging, but the core mechanic is fun. I like the scoring screen at the end, although I bailed early on the last two environments once my oil gauge was over-full.

Brittle Power by rubyleehs 2017-08-03T06:07:04Z

It is super hard! I eventually made it to level four following the tips above, but there were just too many guys. I did like the strategy aspect, and I enjoyed playing. I wish I could have had a little more energy to play with so that I could see what some of the other devices did. Nice work!

More Energy! by Kodiqi 2017-08-03T16:42:21Z

Fun game, with simple, clear interface and graphics. The choices every turn seemed pretty random, and they're the only way I lost (the first game was short), so otherwise the game was pretty easy. I enjoyed walking through it, though, and I appreciate the HTML5 version. Nice job.

Goo-Boy and the Maw of Darkness by Pandanym 2017-08-02T18:34:05Z

Cool design, very nice sounds and music. Lighting is especially cool with the dithered effect. I couldn't really figure out how to deal with jumping against a platform and getting stuck - it seemed hard to get unstuck sometimes, when I had a little black triangle latching me onto things. If you go left at the start instead of right, you can jump-climb the wall and then leave the world for an infinite fall, which you may not have intended. Fun ending.

Manual Mech by Mikeliosus 2017-08-02T05:41:53Z

Really great entry, though hard as hell to operate. I think you might need to give people some more energy to fiddle around with - it takes a long time to learn the controls, and as it stands now, you have to do nearly everything right to make it to the next batteries - no time to fail. Cool graphics, interesting and very different design. I liked it.

ODISSEUS by MarkWolf 2017-08-02T14:06:27Z

Interesting game. I like the multiple game styles. Graphics were cool, and the hybrid Greek classics/space opera was a really neat concept too. I eventually figured out how to go faster through the text dialogues, which was very good - I hated waiting for them to change. The asteroid/travel sequences seemed too long for what they were worth, and occasionally I would get shot by something invisible, which was frustrating. If you wrote the music in this short time, it's amazing - great jazz feel. Good job.

Power Core by AugusteTheClown 2017-08-01T05:09:19Z

Fun, slick little game. Looks nice with simple art. It was too easy - I ended up with enough turrets that they instantly destroyed every incoming ship. The only challenge came when I accidentally put them too close to the edge, so that the enemy triangles died offscreen, so I couldn't see their energy pods. But I liked the look and control feel, and I think with some balancing, or with some way for the turrets to die, it could be cool.

Adrift by Brendan Engelman 2017-08-01T04:44:07Z

As others have said, all you have up there is the Adrift.exe, no supporting data, so the game can't be run.error.png

Sperms and Passwords by Snirp 2017-08-07T17:14:27Z

The game is very simple, but a solid, complete first effort. Graphical environments are all different, and the music tracks were very nice. The game part wasn't much, but the humor and different characters for the robots were fun and appreciated. Good first game - I hope you stick with it.

Only on Batteries by Silvae 2017-08-01T02:33:14Z

Very cool visual world. I like the simplicity along with the polish. Used the theme and also coupled that with energy/power-related visuals. Sound was nice. The game was hard, and having to keep going back to base felt a little frustrating. The multiple-level power-ups were cool - I wish they were a bit more frequent. I found fork-shot very hard to use (on keyboard). Nice work.

Blackout by Kichex 2017-08-01T04:19:45Z

I did some frantic keymashing here, to be sure. It took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to be doing. When I went out to get scrap, the ship suffered, but I could bring all systems back up pretty easily when I got back onboard. It was very hard to tell how damaged any system was, and the scrap just vanished when I tried to repair, so I don't know what that did. Buzzer sound was pretty irritating, and I heard that the whole time. Space controls were way hard to use. The turning would have been better if it would just stop, and then you could jet around more easily. This might be more realistic, but it was very hard to use. It wasn't clear whether any of the gauges mattered except oxygen, where my health (?) seemed to drop when there was none. No idea how to replenish food or heat. The pixel graphics were cool, and it was a neat concept. Nice work.

BioTechnoWorld by Dioinecail 2017-08-01T07:51:38Z

Probably the longest intro I've ever seen, but it had funny bits. Good character art, sounds were good, controls were fluid. It would be cool if the guys reacted to being hit in some way - it was hard to know that you were successful until they just vanished. Also, it wasn't clear whether I was supposed to pick anything up to restore energy. Fun, though - nice work.

Sol Probe Power by GettingRekt 2017-08-03T16:15:17Z

I do love games where you fly around space with thrusters. I liked the visual presentation of this and the dual complexity of maintaining solar charging and also wifi contact. I found it very hard to control the ship precisely, and I was frustrated that I couldn't zoom out far enough to see the goals, so I was flying blind a lot of the time. That kills the game for me, not knowing where I am supposed to go. Adding directional indicators for the targets (like you have for the sun) would fix this right up. I really liked the art style and the environment. Very nice work with this.

Lost Light by DrewG8 2017-08-01T02:45:08Z

Very extensive adventure game, with a cool art style and theme. The controls were a little annoying, moving one square at a time. I liked the little chatty wall guys. The puzzles weren't that engaging, but it was neat to see the different plants and such. I didn't make it to the end - too extensive for the time I had.

Number Station by maxr00 2017-08-01T04:31:36Z

Very neat art and sound design. I love the idea. I couldn't figure out the puzzles after the first few, which was a little frustrating - I tried all the combination of "evens" I could think of to no avail. Eventually gave up after about 8 minutes of no progress. But I really appreciate the creativity and use of art, light, sound, and theme.

LED Adventure -- Running out of Power by ledez 2017-08-01T05:19:46Z

Looks cool. It asked permission to make changes to my device, which made me nervous, so I didn't play. Not sure what it's trying to install. Happy to take another look if that's cleared up. I've been scanning all downloads and then clicking through Windows Defender, but this was a step beyond what I've seen before.

No Colors Here - My First Ludum Dare! =] by Pieve 2017-08-01T02:22:29Z

An interesting attempt at social commentary through gaming, although I think the simplistic mechanics don't completely do justice to or fully overlap with the complex social issues described. I figured out how to avoid the cops after dying four or five times, and the rainbow cloaking does help. I wonder if the compo rules for art were followed - there's a disconnect between the trees and the cool pixel art stuff and then the simplicity of the players, lights, and cops.

Hoover Simulator by Rancoud 2017-08-05T19:18:55Z

This was pretty fun, moving the vacuum around. Once I figured out that you could control the camera as well as the vacuum, it was easier, although still pretty challenging. I couldn't make it through the second level even with about 10 tries. The camera motion was natural and worked well. Graphics and sound simple but effective. Nice work.

Shadow Crawl by Connor Hagan 2017-08-02T06:41:50Z

Neat game, with a cool use of lighting effects. I like the art style and the mood for sure. It wasn't entirely clear what the various gauges were measuring - I got that the top was batteries and the bottom left was health, but I didn't really get what the bottom right was. It would have been cool if the crows made a more obvious sound or indication when they were hurting you, especially because in the dark they could be hurting you and the only indication would be the health bar dropping. I found it challenging but fun. Nice work.

Lithium by bveeramani 2017-08-04T06:21:36Z

Nice atmospheric puzzle game. I enjoyed the puzzle sets and the effects of the different terrains. The music and the weather over the cube base was really neat. I wish that if the diamonds are required, it counts as a level fail to finish without the diamond. I had to replay a whole set of three after accidentally leaving without the diamond. Controls were intuitive and worked well. Nice job!

Hungry Harry's Climb by PBG 2017-08-05T05:43:02Z

The first level, I couldn't even seem to get off the bottom of the pit. The second level, I made it about 1/3 of the way up, but then either I couldn't find a way, or I'd gone up the wrong way too far to figure out how to get out of a dead end, or something. Engaging mechanics and fun 8-bit style. There seemed to be no purpose to digging, unless there was somehow a way to cut yourself a shelf to the side, but maybe I'm missing something. Nice work, though - cool animations, a complete effort, well done.

Industria by rb2750 2017-08-01T04:59:20Z

Neat idea. I think to make it work better you need to make buildings destructible to recover resources. For example, I got into a situation where I couldn't mine copper that you need to cut wood, so I ended up stuck. I lasted a long time in that state, because I had enough miners and powerplants, but I had nothing to do after that point other than watch my population grow until my energy delta switched to negative. I agree with others that it's very punishing at the start - maybe not having the initial people use so much energy would help, or giving people a power plant and a coal mine to begin with? Nicely executed, though, and a different take than the other ones I've played. I liked the different names for the people. Why are they all white and dudes, though?

Rover.GoHome() by BuzzShock 2017-08-11T06:40:50Z

Won on my second try, although I nearly did on my first. I liked the art style and the physics of driving and breaking up rocks - they were quirky and fun, and I liked how the rocks crumbled especially. The thruster was not needed - I didn't use it on my second run, where I won. There wasn't much to do - I think if I'd just left a heavy object on the right button I would have still won - but it was fun to play. Some different play patterns or obstacles would help. Nice work! I love the browser games - so much easier to use.

Planet Power by barret907k 2017-08-01T05:15:38Z

Fun! I had fun figuring out the puzzles. The losing energy part seems a little tacked-on, and the starting level thing made it frustrating to replay - I wanted to see more, but having to start way back was a little annoying. Cool idea, good interface, well executed. Sound and graphics are simple, but they work.

Soul Gun by EX3 2017-08-03T05:17:52Z

Well, I haven't seen the gimmick before. Cool game concept, with appealing graphics and a nice music/sound mix. The game was too hard for me- I gave up after trying one point many, many times. I think if you just had more save points it would be OK, but there were too many low-percentage tasks I needed to do in a row for me to get through, and it was more frustrating than rewarding to do it all over and over again. Nice work, and cool game. Also, my first game, when I happened to fall back through the entry gate, I was able to play and move for a long time with my guy not on the screen, and I couldn't get back in.

Flask of Destruction by Melowicyan 2017-08-03T22:11:23Z

Lots to love here. I really liked the unit variety and the setup, and the story and art were really fun. A couple of issues: (1) it wasn't clear whether you could just attack all cities, or whether you needed to work up the roads. I think up the roads in order would be cooler. (2) The interface and guy management was really weird and hard to use. I tried "Move" and "Select" and they didn't do what I thought they would, except once my guys moved from one occupied city to another. But I didn't seem to be able to re-use soldiers who'd already fought. (3) I think the constant loss of life was in there for the contest, but I think it's not a good feature for the game. Just let it be turn-based without time pressure. Then you also don't need the weird waiting-for-guys timer in the flask. Music and sound were good. I couldn't always read all the battle text, and of course it would be more fun if it were shown graphically with guys being removed rather than in words, but that's maybe beyond the scope of 72 hours. Nice work - I liked this - I just wish I were able to understand and use the interface better.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Hurt-It by recursor 2018-12-05T04:05:01Z

Very neat use of theme. I got a strong Atari Adventure/Berzerk vibe. The explosions, music, visual design, and sounds were very cool. I found it a bit hard when I got to the narrow tunnel with the red guys - very hard to lure them out, and I had to stay so close to dead to hurt them, I died a lot. Seemed like maybe it ramped up a bit too fast there all at once, at least for me. Nice job, and good luck.

Rogues Like Beer by NickZangus 2018-12-06T22:06:22Z

This is an awesome game. The art is terrific, the controls make sense, everything is responsive. I found a few of the levels pretty challenging, and I got myself screwed up enough to require restarts, but you provided that capability and an easy way to jump between levels, so that was no trouble. Music and interface are great too. Very, very good game.

People/Power by SecondDimension 2018-12-05T16:02:16Z

Really great graphics and music. I found it a little hard to use some of the machines in the ways that I wanted, but it's possible I just didn't understand them or their placement properly. The art style is totally cool, and I like the humor with the Brexit backstory. Very funny. Nice work!

Effigies by Geckoo1337 2018-12-11T06:37:39Z

Very cool game, both as a puzzle and as executed with graphics, sounds, and controls. I made it through six levels before my head started to hurt and I gave up. Some of them seemed possible to win just by color-cycling enough at random, without really understanding the optimal way. It might be cool to know what the minimum number of moves is. It would also be cool to have a reset level option, or even undo, so you can go back when things get bad. Very impressive, nice work.

The Orion Trail by Archimagus 2018-12-09T08:12:34Z

Fun, complete, cool game. During My Shitty Space Vacation, I found very little metal, which made it very hard to repair damage. I think I lost by running out of water or fuel, but it didn't tell me why I lost, or even if I lost, at the end - just a "Game Over" screen. I agree with others that you need to know what number the bars represent, or the choices don't seem very strategic. It would also be nice to know whether I rolled well or not on the random chances. Very good sounds and music, and the 3-D models are really great. The options became a little repetitive after a while. It also seemed like some of the encounters were optional (i.e. if I didn't click on "Encounter" they didn't happen), but I wasn't sure if I was saving fuel or avoiding risk or what with that choice. Very nice work - I enjoyed this a lot.

Final Flight of STS Recovery by masterkrepta 2018-12-09T20:20:20Z

I enjoyed this, although I got stuck at the circuit board round. I ran over the circuit board 4 times (even though it was hard to do so given the steep place where it was) and nothing seemed to trigger. The game looks really pretty. My cart wouldn't jump, so I gave that up first, and my gun never seemed to hurt anything (maybe it was going over the enemies?), so I gave that up next. I used the same "give up functions" idea in my game. I would have liked a better description of why giving up a part was necessary - it seemed kind of arbitrary, storywise. Nice work!

Winter Is Coming by nek0las 2018-12-05T22:27:18Z

I really liked the concept. It wasn't entirely clear what the dice did - I could see me using them up for stuff, but I always had way more than I needed. I couldn't seem ever to get more than one food at the pond - I feel like I was missing something there. I couldn't ever seem to make more than one lake, so my guys just died over and over. Also, I didn't know what the wood and stone were for. But I really, really like the layout and the design - I just feel like it needed a little more to link it all together, and then it could be really awesome.

Sacrifical Flight by zgragselus 2018-12-09T08:23:03Z

I agree with others - visually stunning, with great music and sound also. The game didn't seem to me to provide enough clear feedback (or even basic information) about how the decisions worked, so the only way to know what was going on was to experiment and guess at the effects based on apparent distance and height. It also seemed unfair that if I burned all my fuel I dropped like a rock no matter how high I was - not what would happen in real life. but very, very impressive and a beautiful game.

Blob by concalf 2018-12-03T22:01:24Z

Very pretty game, with great graphics, cool sound, and some nice extras. Squarely in line with the theme. Very nice work.

Escape of the Cheese Droid by dob 2018-12-03T04:13:30Z

Unity WebGL is crapping all over the movement keys for the web version. I'll try to see what's up and put up a bug fix. The Windows version seems to work better. UPDATE: Bug addressed, I hope, in bugfix version.

Escape of the Cheese Droid by dob 2018-12-03T04:19:18Z

Try running full screen - that seems to cut down on the movement glitches.

Escape of the Cheese Droid by dob 2018-12-04T04:44:31Z

Thanks for the comments and feedback, everybody.

@nick-rafalski @derek-volker - I agree it can get pretty hard. I made a playthrough video which shows me winning in about 3 minutes, so it's totally possible - I win most of the games I play now, though I realize I'm probably better than most due to hours spent debugging. The video also shows hitching a ride on some saucers and the uncontrollable cheese blasts you sometimes let out when you don't have a head.

Escape of the Cheese Droid by dob 2018-12-05T14:52:26Z

@seed42 @jk5000 Sorry about the controls. The mouse aiming isn't at the mouse cursor - it's just a left to right arc controlled by the mouse where he can't shoot below a horizontal angle.

Escape of the Cheese Droid by dob 2018-12-07T14:40:29Z

@nnnikki Thanks for the feedback. The mouse aiming is actually just left to right, not directly aiming at the cursor, so you need to ignore the cursor and just steer the arm. In retrospect, that maybe wasn't the best design in a game environment where you hiding the cursor is difficult.

Escape of the Cheese Droid by dob 2018-12-09T04:28:20Z

@candlesan Thanks for the kind words. I went with gray hearts because I figured a droid wouldn't have a red one, but I get that it was confusing.

FTD : Fixin' to Die by nuclearfriend 2018-12-08T05:58:18Z

This is so funny. Best sounds I've seen yet. So many good touches, and a unique playstyle, with added difficulty elements. Tremendous work.

Sacrifarm by martincohen 2018-12-05T13:05:07Z

Very cool! Like others, I had a little trouble figuring out what I was doing, and what the numbers meant, and why I transitioned to different seasons. The gameplay was very smooth, the pixel art and effects top-notch, and the soundtrack rockin'. Very impressive.

Arkham 2043 by juxipolo 2018-12-10T06:02:01Z

Wow, a very deep, complex game, with a variety of encounters, special abilities, and story. I really liked the art style. The combat was a little hard to manage - I didn't figure out how the tokens were represented for quite some time. I also couldn't read the left person's weapon (Mika) - I saw medigel in the investigator select screen. But this is a ton of features packed into a jam game. Very cool.

The War of the Four Races by wrexialmt 2018-12-04T22:05:28Z

Interesting idea. I didn't realize at first that your reported score would just be the final number of guys alive - if I were optimizing for that, I wouldn't have snapped so many folks in half. Fun concept, fits the theme, easy to understand, and fun to watch. Nice work.

Book of Fire by andre-606 2018-12-06T19:37:56Z

I liked the art style and animations. I found the controls a little hard to use, and I died a whole lot - it might have been nicer to have a little easer time to start and to get used to what was going on. Nice work.

Entry for 43rd Ludum Dare by burnedkirby 2018-12-04T08:29:42Z

This is a neat take on the sacrifice theme. I agree with the restarting a level issue - that's a key need for a game like this if you want it to be extensively played and rated. I really liked the background music and the cool graphic effects embellishing the simple art.

Perilous Passage by Nick Rafalski 2018-12-04T03:07:57Z

Tried to play it, but it wouldn't show up in either Chrome or Edge browsers - black screen with music playing. Not sure what's up - might be on my end.

Absalom And The Golden Mullet by DBONGames 2018-12-08T06:18:44Z

I love the music and the dark art style, and the world you've created. The shift in perspective with rotation was a little weird, but I got used to it. A little hard to figure out what you're supposed to do at first, but definitely fun when you figure it out.

Guardians of Lalaland by blanky 2018-12-09T06:58:18Z

The game doesn't seem to work. I clicked the "rescue center" button, but nothing appeared on screen, and I had no option to do anything after. I mined stone, did it again, nothing. Eventually, guys walked to the middle of the screen, and despite building three or four invisible rescue centers, they died. Game over. Then, when I replay, the remaining guys are still on screen and die almost immediately. No idea what's going on. Interesting idea and a nice 8-bit graphics style, though.

Ludum Dare Simulator by Hempuli 2018-12-08T06:07:37Z

Very fun, and a very cool concept. I managed to do OK (rank 1). I liked the video feed part (although I think it could have run faster - I didn't want to watch all 48 hours) and the user comments especially. Really neat entry - I hope it does well.

Your God Demands... by daruudaruu 2018-12-08T03:15:23Z

Great art, fun sounds, really cool little monsters and animations. I wanted a way to get rid of the incorrect monsters - the only thing I could come up with was throwing them away toward the side. The controls are smooth and the whole thing is very impressive.

My Little Cultist - Sacrifice is Magic - Babby's First Eldritch Ritual edition by homeworld 2018-12-07T21:58:25Z

Really great art, and a huge game for a short project. Very nicely done. I found the controls a little difficult to get down, but it all hangs together with some practice.

Cultist's Quest by James Dunlap 2018-12-08T19:10:21Z

Lots of work in here to get the game to work and to have active AI creatures and the wide variety of potions. I thought the maps were too large (lots of time walking down really long halls), and it would be more fun were there more to do. I accidentally trampled most of my sacrifice people, which was unexpected, but led me to think that a combination of rogue and snake might be sort of cool. Good work.

A.I. Careers Advisory Service: Your Path To Success by garygreen 2018-12-03T22:54:41Z

I liked the music a lot. There was a lot of humor in the game, and I liked discovering what I had done in the wrap-up section. Nice work.

Space Traveler by SanyingLi 2018-12-07T05:08:38Z

I like the art style and the look of the game a lot. I found it a little hard to know where I was in the 3D space I was flying through, leading to a lot of unintended collisions. It would be cooler if you have more time to add some more obstacles or weapons or something else to do - it's a little one-dimensional for now, but that's understandable for 48 hours.

LD43: Super Space Sacrifice by LMB 2018-12-17T06:04:56Z

I like this kind of game. I agree that the high difficulty at the start (one hit to die, unpredictable alien shooting that is unavoidable, really infrequent player shots and multiple hits to kill enemies) makes it less fun. I died a bunch without getting very far. I also had the key status bug, where down was pressed until I mashed keys to get it unpressed - I think you need to clear your keypressed variables before starting a new game. Good effort - good luck in the compo.

Triumph Tribute by guilhermesouza 2018-12-05T02:24:09Z

Very nice effort. I liked that each hero had a unique minigame. I found them pretty hard to win consistently, although I got best at the Paladin. The Wizard one kept going off on its own. Very impressive graphics and design. Nice work.

Consilium - A history of life and choices by Gaming Night 2018-12-07T05:17:45Z

Very cool art style and game concept. I really liked this one for that. Such a juggling act balancing all the different pieces. Very nice.

Bokeh by arron-fowler 2018-12-13T11:45:41Z

I tried it solo, so I couldn't get a full impression. I think the art style is really neat and the chorused background music is so cool and beautiful. The controls seemed very fluid and your camera scaling and movement was very slick. I didn't find the shot timer/stances very intuitive. It would have been really helpful to have a life bar or some other indicator of how things were going, and some other feedback on the stances. Nice work.

Horde of the Demon Lord by PaperbackGorilla 2018-12-07T05:33:25Z

Fun game with lots of great art. I had a good time working through it and discovering the different items, although it was a little frustrating not knowing what they did or when to use them. I like the mix of game and narration, and I am impressed you got this done in such a short time.

Sacrifices must be made - Ludum Dare 43 by great-bobleny 2018-12-04T03:00:06Z

Fun concept for the theme. I had a lot of trouble playing because my resources wouldn't update. I think I had them, because I was able to build more stuff, but I never seemed to get more people despite building houses and hatching babies. But it was a cool concept - I wish I could have gotten a little farther into it.

Sacrifices must be made - Ludum Dare 43 by great-bobleny 2018-12-04T03:27:12Z

I tried it in Chrome on Windows. It worked correctly on my MS Edge browser - got a little farther this time.

Emotional Equilibrium by dapotap 2018-12-04T08:35:14Z

The graphic look was really great. It ran pretty slowly in my browser - not sure if that was the lighting, the complexity of the models, or some other factor. The music was neat. I would sometimes lose control of the controls, as it were - stuck hugging a wall, or unable to attack, but I could often break out of that by keymashing. Nice work.

Death Wish by Derek Volker 2018-12-03T21:54:13Z

Fun game, and very reminiscent of Double Dragon, in a good way. I found it pretty hard, too. My only complaint would be that sometimes my attacks would hit, and sometimes they wouldn't, even when standing in the same place, which made it difficult to know what to do. The music track is awesome, and I liked the graphics and sound a lot. The sacrifice theme is there in the story, but not much in the game.

Oregon Tail by DoctorMozart 2018-12-09T08:32:48Z

I liked it. I suspect the encounters are fixed, becasue they relate to the map locations? Interesting choices and options. I could have used a little more text to describe the encounters and the options so that it could feel like I was making a more informed choice rather than just clicking. It was a little hard to read. The thing you test at the end is mettle, not metal. Graphics were cute, and music good (especially in that it changed during encounters). Nice work!

The Sacrifice Basketball by kumabotz 2018-12-04T04:02:30Z

Fun game, with cute sounds. I could have used a little more in the instructions department, but it became pretty obvious quickly. I found it easier to hit the back basket rather than the front one. I would have liked to get points for shots taken before the time ran out (as in real basketball) even if the clock expires mid-air. Nice work.

Ossium by JammedGame 2018-12-06T21:45:01Z

Very pretty game, with a really cool art style. I loved the decorations. I found the platforming frustrating - lots of big jumps that needed to be just right, and lots of penalties if you fell, requiring a bunch of repetition just to get back to where the big jumps were, which I'd probably fail again. But unquestionably an impressive effort - just my own preference here.

Pyme's Genocide by HermesEs 2018-12-07T06:00:32Z

The art, music, and sound are just delightful. The color palette is really fun, and it's lit very well. I enjoyed the game, although I found myself wishing for jumps that were a little easier and a jetpack that didn't drain so fast. After a few deaths I respawned with no animals and zero fuel, so I was kind of stuck. I'm so impressed with what you put together. Very nice work.

Pyme's Genocide by HermesEs 2018-12-07T08:16:12Z

@jaimuepe I played the post-jam on WebGL via itch.io, using Chrome for Windows. There were no speed or performance issues, just the weird thing where no animals spawned.

Cross the Hell by Oxygenium 2018-12-05T06:10:27Z

Very cool design and mechanics, and the graphics are really phenomenal. Very nice work. I agree that it's quite hard, especially not being able to see what's in the alternate dimension.

Maroon3d by juju 2018-12-05T16:21:03Z

I like the art style. I found it somewhat difficult to play. When I figured out you could launch friends at cultists, that helped, but some rooms I entered the cultists were too close for me to react. I really liked the art style and the animation - very cool.

Kamikaze Kevin by Bit 2018-12-05T12:43:03Z

This is cute. Very simple, but it has a neat visual appeal, and it's fun trying to get as many near you as you can before blowing up. Sounds and music add to it nicely. Good work.

Goblin Quest by Pellanor 2018-12-06T05:48:08Z

This is very fun, with cool adventures. I played through about four characters to try to make different choices. Not sure I saw everything, but I had a good time.

Bored Runner by Shanewaz Rahi 2018-12-08T19:02:52Z

Congrats on getting into game programming. This has some good components - multiple controls, interface, etc. Sometimes the game is impossible to win because of the sequence of obstacles you are given. Also, I seemed to just "fail" after a while even if I had health remaining. Not sure what that was about. I played >10 times and never won, just died from running out of health, or just at random.

Rocket Sheep by NisePandaKun 2018-12-05T16:12:54Z

Fun game. I liked rocketing around, although I was pretty bad at it - had to give up after about 40 tries on four levels. The rules say goat, and the sound sounds like a goat, but your animal is a sheep and the title says sheep. So, a little caprine/ovine confusion there. Fun game, visually striking with neat models and lighting. Good work!

Hot Air Balloons Or People? by itsjustjord 2018-12-03T22:47:58Z

Fun game, with an interesting original concept that fit the theme, cool graphics and sound. The play experience was a little limited - I couldn't really tell what the birds did that was so bad other than cost you a little bit of cash. Very nice work.

Flocked by Ice Maker 2018-12-13T21:11:03Z

I really liked the art style. The controls were a little weird and drifty, but I got used to them after a bit. The firing seemed really non-responsive - I could only fire maybe one click out of five, and there seemed maybe to be a long time-out between shots. Really great looking game.

Shepherd Sacrifice by aCuriosity 2018-12-05T04:10:49Z

Visually very crisp and appealing, and the game mechanics work well. A shame about the rush - this looks like with a little structure it could have been really fun. But I had a good time wandering around harassing my ovine neighbors. Nice job.

Archibald's Snobbish Journey by Thomas_Bringer 2018-12-18T06:51:07Z

Fun game, with appealing visuals and sounds and a surprisingly complex item category system. Very cool idea. The whole balloon thing didn't seem to matter much, as the game was more just throw away an item every so often, but it provide a narrative frame for why you were doing it, I guess. Very nice work on this, and good luck in the competition.

Dark Villagers by AwiX 2018-12-07T15:45:49Z

Really great art, spooky music, and fun concept. It took me a while to figure out what I was doing and to hit a good balance of defensive creatures and buildings. In the web version I played, the text was really small - maybe I should have used full screen.

Cargo Sacrifice by Starr_Fighter05 2018-12-04T03:57:44Z

I tried to play this, but I got stuck on the opening screen (pink, with menu and quit). I clicked everywhere, but only Quit worked.

CUTE ROBOTS by rpgfaker 2018-12-05T06:20:06Z

I had a little bit of trouble figuring out the menu system, but once I did I understood what was going on. Very neat. I liked the creativity and the fact that this was very different from most of the others I'm seeing. Nice work.

Sons of Vanity by nkrim 2018-12-04T23:10:25Z

What a fun little game. You must have had to do a bunch of art to manage the different traits. I'm not exactly sure how people are getting to those very high generation numbers - I had a lot of drift in each new set I got, and it was hard to keep it close. Very good work.

Alien Sacrificial Predicament by nanocube75 2018-12-04T03:13:35Z

I tried running this several times. I got partway through a loading screen until I could see some kind of figure with a bladey hand, and then it froze. I hit "E" to no avail.

Alien Sacrificial Predicament by nanocube75 2018-12-04T04:18:44Z

Oh, I get it now. Sorry. I understand. Funny idea, but you probably need to make it just a bit more obvious.

Air Rider by Hawkie 2018-12-04T21:38:59Z

Fun game. Good graphics, smooth play, great sound and music. I was a little confused by the controls for a while - e.g. I couldn't move upward and sideways at the same time, which didn't match what I expected. It would be cool to have an indicator to know if your landing speed and site were safe, too. I wasn't sure why I wouldn't just kill all the passengers at the start. I mean, other than Kantian ethics. Very nice work - what did you do the music in?

PuzCol (Solo) by harshyyness 2018-12-05T14:25:50Z

Good sound effecs, really neat simple graphics with added effects. The concept was fun, the gameplay solid, and I (like others) wish there had been more to explore. Nice work.

Atomic Lifetime by Kaish 2018-12-04T04:17:28Z

Cute game. I had a hard time with the shooting at first, until I realized the other atoms don't die. Fun concept, cool graphics, good music. I enjoyed it.

Gombi Escape by exper105 2018-12-05T03:48:19Z

Fun game and fun idea, and incorporates the theme well. I wish the blimp had been a little more responsive, or that there was a visual cue, so that I was sure the controls were working. Fun art and fun concept for the Gombi roles. Nice work.

Fire and Atlas by irock 2018-12-07T04:40:51Z

Interesting idea with the maps that could be right or wrong. It took me a bit to figure out what was going on, but I like the originality and the art. Very good work.

Super Space Meltdown by EatAtJoes 2018-12-05T15:11:05Z

Cool graphics and soundtrack and solid platform mechanics. I had a similar theme in mine, giving up capabilities, for the sacrifice part. I enjoyed it but found it a little hard to see what the hell I was doing, especially when I chose the view sacrifice (never tried that again after the first time).

Money Run by Jevgeni Orehhov 2018-12-18T06:00:50Z

Really fun, great art, terrific soundtrack. Lots to love here. I found the game pretty hard - I ran out of gas a lot, and I had a little trouble figuring out what all the controls did, as others have said above, and which objects were good vs. damaging. Nice work, and good luck in the jam.

Pick Your Poison by Vimlark 2018-12-04T21:59:03Z

Very good work. Polished, good sound and graphics, smooth controls, a variety of enemies. Reminded me of mine a little bit in that you keep getting worse as you go through levels. I would have liked a "replay level" option so that I could have gotten to the end - I tried four times, but couldn't make it, and the prospect of playing another bunch of levels to get back where I was was unappealing. The gameplay was a tad repetitive, but that's hardly unexpected for a 48-hour game. Very good work.

Lighter Than Air by simon.parzer 2018-12-06T07:43:53Z

Really fun game with cute art and a happy soundtrack. I've played maybe five balloon games so far, and this is the most fun. I liked how you used the weight physics to leverage control of your balloon. Very clever, very fun game.

LD45 — Start with nothing

Little Robot Run by KunoNoOni 2019-10-09T02:49:07Z

Fun game, good music and sounds. A little frustrating to have to restart each time - that eventually kept me from finishing, because I got frustrated with having to redo so much. I know, I'm lazy, but still. But it was fun, looks nice, and has a clear set of goals and interface.

gaarden by Jezzamon 2019-10-20T03:53:19Z

This is very fun. I thought at first there was a goal (didn't RTFM) but eventually realized it was just a cool toy with lots of stuff to try. I eventually got it so big that I couldn't tell if stuff was bits I should click or dust on my monitor. Really neat and meditative. Cool entry.

Unwritten by HitchH1k3r 2019-10-21T02:42:46Z

I really like this idea, making a sokoban puzzle even cooler with changing world parameters. I got stuck in the fire area and couldn't progress - not sure what I was supposed to do. I could resurrect my guy by switching to nothing and back, but the map also reset, which stranded me.

Lost Temple of the Monkey God by aurel 2019-10-20T03:23:49Z

Visually stunning, with great graphics, shading, and mechanics. I found the game a little hard to get into, with so many choices and a fair number of difficult platform jumps. I might have preferred something a little more linear with a learning curve rather than the open world. I'm very impressed with all that you got in there, and with the variety of parts and puzzles. Very nice work.

Commander by Wekaj 2019-10-15T05:33:29Z

Such a fun game, and so well executed. One of the best I've seen in this competition. I love the graphics and the concept. I died the first time I played, when I split my forces, and the second time I just built one mega-squad, because I thought with the stat upgrades, it would be better to have them apply all to one group. Eventually my megasquad was pretty well invulnerable to everything, and they pretty much four-hit the dragon to death. I love that the squads have random names, that the people have random races, and I thought the visual style and animation was really great. I had a little bit of trouble grokking the controls at first, but eventually it became very natural. Really clever game - thanks. I enjoyed it a lot.

SOMtHINGa from NoThINGa by Jimbly 2019-10-19T05:28:13Z

Very cool puzzle idea. I got through the tutorial, and then I got a little bogged down understanding how things go - I could have used a bit more of a difficulty bridge upward, or maybe a few more hints, before getting to harder stuff. Graphics, the representation of the puzzle, and art were very good, and music was cute.

Coming from nothing by tinykidtoo 2019-10-21T02:49:29Z

Fun shooter. Not much to it, but it was fun to run around shooting. I didn't understand at first why I was dying when punching the red blobs, but I guess those were toxic somehow. Good sounds, smooth controls.

Singularity by dob 2019-10-08T03:55:55Z

@goldenglade Sorry the controls were confusing - basically everything (including all three types of controls) is controlled by left-right movement of the mouse, which is simple but not always intuitive. Your ideas are better, but I was already lost in a sea of trig to get this to work and didn't have enough time to refine the controls. The sounds and music are the result of a panicked 22 minutes about an hour before submit time, so I'd have liked to have done more there too. Thanks for the feedback.

Singularity by dob 2019-10-08T03:57:14Z

Thanks for all the feedback, @superlee, @robodoig, @theomaniacal, @sageware, @johan-alexandersson, @marcel-oyuela-bonzani, and @loyance. I really appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts.

Singularity by dob 2019-10-09T02:34:12Z

Thanks for the feedback, @bip, @zerptin, @toasteater, @hajden, @gaz-ireland, @hermitao, and @oxrock. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Keyboard controls as an option might be helpful/more obvious - thanks for the suggestion @hajden.

Singularity by dob 2019-10-19T13:54:50Z

Thanks @khorm. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I didn’t have time for much polishing of the gameplay - I’d have liked to address the issues you mention, but I ran out of time.

Unlock Everything by DDRKirbyISQ 2019-10-19T21:17:05Z

Very impressive for a Compo game. All of it works well and is very polished, and it has lots of extras. The unlocking theme is satisfying and works well. I didn't have much trouble with the boss, but maybe the early comments were before you made him a little easier in 1.03. I really like the color palette and art style. Very neat. I also 1000% appreciate restarting at the same level where I died - I can't play games where I have to go really far back to a checkpoint - I'm too old, and it's too frustrating. I loved the jukebox feature too - fun to see your notes about the music.

Soulcraft by sawtan 2019-10-19T15:33:17Z

I really like the retro style, and the ship art and presentation is wonderful. The stereo effects on the music were a nice touch. I found myself wishing there were more levels to the shot power-ups. Challenging, fun, and a cool walk down memories of the 1980's

Ex Nihilo by agentparsec 2019-10-21T02:59:06Z

I had no idea what to do at the start. I tried every key, mouse all over, no luck. Had to come back here and read comments to realize it was right click. That was frustrating. Once I got it going, it had great sounds, music, and really cool visuals. A bit trippy, and no way to really know if you've used all the features or not, but very neat looking. I think it would be a bit cooler if there was some behavior dictated by the position and color of the planet. I think it might have been tied to pitch, but I couldn't get them to interact any other way. Cool concept, well executed.

Healthy Competition by Elemental Zeal Game Studios 2019-10-20T03:37:47Z

I couldn't get my character to move in the Web version in Chrome. Trying in Edge. Ah, that worked. Fun game. I had a little trouble figuring out what I was supposed to do at first. I eventually found the sharp knife, and then I explored some more and found the master chef, who wasn't very hard to kill (I was up to the level-up costing 2000, not sure how much stronger that makes me). A couple technical things - enemies would often get behind my health bar, which made them hard to see and to hit; the attacks of the vegetables often didn't land, even if it seemed like I was getting hit; it was hard to do anything other than click when confronted by lots of carrots - i.e., no strategy other than taking damage until they were dead. But I liked the drum soundtrack and the really cool art, and the dungeon-crawl mood. Very neat game.

Fields Of Amplidi by godsboss 2019-10-09T04:59:11Z

Neat game! I enjoyed wandering around and gradually figuring bits out. Leaving a trail of trees back to my workbench was key. I feel like it would have taken a really long time to win, so I didn't try for that, but I did enjoy the time I played. Nice work!

Void Prisoner by BoxedMeatRevolution 2019-10-08T04:34:56Z

This is delightfully kooky. I really like it. I had some trouble figuring out what to do, but I loved that all of my actions had some impact, even if I didn't understand it. I couldn't figure out what the guy wanted me to do with the orb next to the explosion, so I got stuck eventually. But great music, neat concept, really funny dialogue, and comically oppressive.

Nothing Box by guckstift 2019-10-20T21:59:39Z

Very neat idea, and fun to wander around and discover stuff. I like the color and vision range as benefits from discovery. I mined so much stone and gold - a little sad to see that they didn't do anything. Also, the double-tap to mine or chop wasn't really needed. Music was peaceful and introspective. Laser puzzle a nice addition for a goal and ending.

I Am A Square by ivexnuke 2019-10-09T02:39:56Z

Cool mechanics and an interesting set of puzzles! I found myself wishing there were more levels to play. You kind of start with one, not with nothing, but I get the connection. Graphics are clean with clear functions (once I figured out wtf I was doing) with a cool color scheme.

Calibal's Curse by neonlare 2019-10-09T05:34:35Z

Download from Drive was super slow - I'm on gigabit, and it still took 5+ minutes. Glad I persevered! This was very fun. I loved the melding of multiple game concepts. Some of the combats were very hard and unforgiving - it might be nice to have the first couple you meet be easier, and then step up the difficulty later. Great gameplay, great music, great concept, great design. Very nic.

Doors by N4tticus 2019-10-19T02:48:34Z

Good homage to FTL, and some funny dialogue. I found it very hard, and a little frustrating when the guys wouldn't go where I wanted, but it was a very neat idea. Music is good too.

N O T H I N G by revx 2019-10-08T03:40:37Z

Very fun! I like the riddles and wordplay. Art was very neat. There was a lot of moving that didn't really accomplish that much, but it gave it that classic RPG feel. It might have been cool to limit the number of letters you can carry, so that you have to give one up when you get one, or something. I enjoyed it a lot - cool music too. Very creative idea. Connection to the theme seems a little weaker than some (you start with TUTORIAL after all...) but that's OK.

Spooky Japes by cdunham 2019-10-19T20:53:52Z

This was cute and fun. As others have noted, there's not a challenge, really, and not much of a game with goals (more of a toy). I really liked the art style and the background music. If it had been possible to lose, that would have been more complex, but actually, for a fun little thing, that might have detracted. The comments the characters say are funny. Nice work!

Winter Survival by oxrock 2019-10-08T04:42:19Z

Interesting idea. I found it very hard to pick up objects (e.g. rocks, sticks). I could grab berries just by clicking on the bush, but I could only occasionally pick up the other tool objects. It would have been nice maybe to have some better sense of direction than just the footprints, although that was a nice touch. It wasn't entirely clear that decreasing "hunger" was bad, although once I started trading health for hunger it became more clear. Nice work...

Spam Space To Exist by Wheffle 2019-10-09T04:40:28Z

Really cool! I loved how you could absorb the abilities of the ship parts you picked up. Very neat. Good sounds. I liked how the lighting indicated where the planet was, but I wish there had been a little more of an indication of where you were. Fun game!

Put the Haunt in this House by TheCrittersCove 2019-10-19T04:59:47Z

Very nice look art, and very fun concept. I had trouble finding combinations to make monsters, and there was a lot of clicking randomly with no success. Even using the hints from the monsters, I ended up having to check most of the ingredients. I was disappointed that the trombone didn't seem to be part of the skeleton, although maybe I was doing it wrong. Music and presentation were very nice. Sometimes I couldn't tell if an object was clicked or not, because the white halo indicator matched the color of the object. Very cool idea, and the intro was fun (thanks for making it skippable for later plays).

Put the Haunt in this House by TheCrittersCove 2019-10-19T20:44:43Z

@thecritterscove Thanks for letting me know - I must have missed that one. I think I was concentrating on the fish skeleton. All is right with the world now that trombone is included. :-)

Lost Soul by d3garcia 2019-10-15T05:41:31Z

Cute game, fun to play, with awesome music and very responsive controls. I had a good time with this one. It fast-forwarded through the final screen because I was still holding down controls - might want to disable that, or add a delay.

Necros by TwinGhosts 2019-10-19T05:07:38Z

I really like the concept and the art style. Music is great too. I wish the combat were a little more clear, so you can tell if your guys are strong enough or not. I did end up with clots of guys stuck on buildings a lot, which I could clear up, but the method to clear them wasn't immediately obvious when I first played. Difficulty ramped up quite quickly, and I often died kind of suddenly with no real indication I was doing badly. It might have been nice if the player could do something more than just shove skeletons around. Neat, original idea, well executed.

Minds are Mine by EggshellDog 2019-10-19T05:16:03Z

Clever idea. Very difficult to play, and the concept took me about 15 deaths on level 2 to figure out. I liked the art and the complexity, and the fact that you could control nearly everything. I'd have preferred a slightly more lenient timer. Very cool idea.

Solar System Clicker - Browser game by lanz611 2019-10-08T03:50:21Z

Very cool, and I love that you involved your kids. Back when mine were small, I got them to help me test my games, and it was a lot of fun. Cool visuals and neat idea. I wish there were a little more apparent connection between what I was doing (clicking at random) and what I was seeing - I didn't feel too much control. But very neat.

Leaping Louie by mccarlp 2019-10-09T05:41:00Z

Really great graphics - are those models you made yourself during the competition? If so, wow. I was very impressed by the visuals. Sound and voice acting are good, and well-synchronized with the animations. Game was fun, but very hard - it might be cool to have a tutorial before diving in. Nice work!

Tardigrades on the Moon by bassguitarbill 2019-10-09T02:30:23Z

Fun slow-motion building game. I like the theme, the art, and the music. A little unclear how to apply the rules, other than very slowly, or what the bar in the upper left meant. Fun, though - I enjoyed myself, until I hit the SCROLL WHEEL OF DEATH about eight minutes in.

Tale of the Toad King by Beebo Studios 2019-10-14T19:24:24Z

Music and art are very fun. I had trouble figuring out how to tell if an obstacle was a block or just background art, and how many squares the big obstacles covered. I also didn't know if losing my followers was bad or not - I seemed to be able to progress in levels, but I didn't play through to the end, so I don't know if it mattered that I skipped some frogs or lost others. I agree that control feedback might be useful, but I didn't have a lot of trouble with that part, maybe because I first played a Snake game back in the 1980s. Really fun and polished effort.

KOLENdor by MaxKlimenok 2019-10-23T15:39:22Z

Really cool, and very impressive graphics and storytelling. The combat seemed totally random - I found myself wishing there was something I could do either to affect it or move it along faster. Also, it wasn't clear when I was winning or losing, although I eventually figured that out. Very cool story elements, and I'm impressed you managed two different player skill tracks. Great game!

ReWorld by Firesplash Entertainment 2019-10-14T19:16:57Z

A really interesting take on the theme. The puzzles weren't too complex, but they were interesting and fun, and it took me a little bit of time to figure out how the lasers worked, and also what the color coding on the monster-identification cards meant. The final level (I think) where you have to move your slow dragon past the rapid rainbow ball guys was too hard, I think, unless I missed something. Plus, it took a lot of work to set up what seemed like a high-fail timing move. Maybe I needed to push a box in front of them or something, but I found that a teeny bit frustrating in what was otherwise a very enjoyable and really clever game.

The Blue Girl by gamebuilder 2019-10-19T02:44:56Z

This is really neat! I enjoyed it a lot. Very old-school, but with modern touches. Very good music.

Draft & Doodle by DrEvilBrain 2019-10-15T05:46:28Z

This sounds like a really fun party game or classroom activity. I really liked the long list of constraints - lots of clever stuff in there. Well-presented and well-thought out.

WELCOME TO NOTHING by theomaniacal 2019-10-08T05:04:17Z

This was really, really neat. I love the visual style and the cute comments. Perfect fit for the theme. I couldn't figure out what could cross the bridge at first - tried about eight shapes of various sizes and outlines. Finally got a shape that worked, but then I got slapped a lot. Finished with my good shape after several tries on the final puzzle - barely made it over the edge before the red caught up with me. I enjoyed the ending. So much great writing in addition to the coding and design. Really cool.

Nothing to Everything by Compasslg 2019-10-08T03:13:24Z

Interesting concept. The shared deck makes the battles pretty balanced and a little random, although I was a little smarter than the AI, and in the early fights you gave me significantly more HP. But I nearly lost because the computer got all the big attack cards early on, along with a bunch of blocks and healing. It wasn't clear how long a block card lasted - permanent until the next attack whenever it happened, or just for the next round? The music and sounds were simple but added to the game. The help was detailed, and the controls were intuitive. Clicking on the "Everything" button at the start seemed to hang the game for me - not sure what it was supposed to do.

Protector by Arcus 2019-10-19T21:41:43Z

This was basic, but fun. I liked the piano track. It took me a while to figure out how to do stuff. The goals weren't obvious either - I only ever got to 5% finished, because I didn't understand what I was after until reading what was above. But, a good start on something that could be cool. Nice work.

Entanglement by cassowary 2019-10-21T03:04:45Z

Clever puzzle with neat rules and good level design. 20 levels is a ton to have made. Nice work!

I want to live by TalesOfPixelia 2019-10-20T22:15:09Z

Pretty trippy, but fun. Controls were smooth, and music rocked. Some kind of progress bars might have made the story pace more obvious. Nice work!

Palely by Fluffy_Kaeloky 2019-10-26T01:47:15Z

I downloaded and started. Was able to move around. Picked up and threw the letters. Formed "PLAY" horizontally and vertically, nothing happened. There was never any ability to do anything else, even though I tried lots of things. My computer is pretty ripped, not a speed or graphics issue. A shame, as the other comments make it sound really interesting.

Palely by Fluffy_Kaeloky 2019-10-26T05:03:57Z

@fluffy-kaeloky Ah, OK. That was not clear. Thanks for the help.

Roll a Ball Genesis by jsloth 2019-10-09T15:54:56Z

Very cool game! An interesting interpretation of the concept. I really liked the text adventure feel combined with the visuals. Very creative. I couldn't get the music to play in my browser - I assume it worked in the desktop versions.

Stuff from click by PurpoAppo 2019-10-09T02:03:27Z

Not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing, but I did drop a lot of apples and then grow them into trees nad then into beige animals. I couldn't get the number keys to do anything recognizable. The art is neat, and obviously there's some kind of AI going on there.

Stuff from click by PurpoAppo 2019-10-09T04:03:06Z

Ooo, wow, lots more that I didn't comprehend at first. I'll have to give it another try.

CRAB GAME by zolothevulture 2019-10-09T02:07:44Z

The art is pretty. Not much to go on. A restart button would be dope, so I could try again to challenge myself.

Boltzmann by Hermitao 2019-10-08T05:51:48Z

Beautiful game. I loved the motion trails, the solar explosions, the lens flare, the halo effects - just really stunning. The music is perfect also. I discovered several different kinds of stars, asteroids and planets, a black hole, and of course the nova/nebula stuff. Very neat.

Boltzmann by Hermitao 2020-01-10T22:51:09Z

Congratulations! That's really neat.

Sheep Keep by zubspace 2019-10-07T23:02:00Z

Really delightful art. The gameplay was interesting, controlling multiple characters. I had fun coalescing them into a pitchfork mob. One guy got over the fence one time, and another time a guy got perma-stuck, but neither of those crashed anything. Background music was fun, but a little repetitive. The coin/bonus sound was like a little drill digging into my skull. The game was a little easy, or maybe didn't progress difficulty fast enough. I got bored around level 10 and stopped, but I don't know what I missed later. But very impressive, very smooth and intuitive controls, and I really love the artwork. Not sure exactly how it fits the theme.

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-22T18:39:32Z

This is such a cool idea. I really love it. I had a couple of issues - I would often place controls that didn't seem to do what they wree supposed to. I'm not sure if that's a timing issue, or something else but my anagram tools were particularly finicky. Also, I don't know how you could build the required goal words from the letters in NOTHING with only the two tools indicated. I see other people reference adding A's together, but I couldn't figure out any way to get to the earlier letters (E, A, etc) when all you can do is add. There's probably an undocumented feature I'm missing, which I could have used a hint to get to - it's frustrating not to be able to even see how to finish. But I really love this concept, and the art, sound, and execution are sooooo cool.

Scrawl A Draw by rdcooper 2019-10-08T03:17:49Z

Fun toy - this really achieved flashbacks to my youth. I was tempted to do what I did with Etch a Sketch and try to color the whole screen purple, but I must be fusty now that I'm old and lacked the initiative. The music was great - I love the harpsichord and all the ornaments. Very neat.

Trick or Retreat by Lone_Wolf 2019-10-19T04:50:25Z

Music is awesome. Game is pretty simple, and it seems to get harder only by making the helicopters shoot more frequently, which is pretty easy to adapt to for the first 10-12 levels. The retreat part didn't have a lot of meaning for me - not much difference between dying or quitting. The old-school 8-bit appearance was neat, and I liked the humorous game concept.

Nothing In The Way by JediNeeson 2019-10-09T02:15:19Z

Cool little game, with fun puzzles. Art and animation were good. Controls were pretty intuitive. I could have used more than two measures of background music. I wish that I could have tried all puzzles rather than having to do them in order.

Emergency Procedures by enderr42 2019-10-08T03:30:54Z

I had a lot of trouble getting the HTML 5 version on itch.io to run. Game area was larger than the screen, with no obvious effect controls or effect, and no fullscreen button.

Life. I guess. by ToFuMan 2019-10-08T04:24:04Z

Interesting concept! I enjoyed clicking the options and seeing what they did. Sometimes that seemed weird, like when I attended a seminar and got dumber, but I guess it depends on the seminar. It would have been neat, I think, if the events could be random but chronologically progressive. One play, when I maxed out my money, I got to a point where I couldn't accept any of the cards, and could only click on "accept none." Not sure if that was a glitch or related to my money or what. I'm assuming the end text varies depending on the life you choose?

Meager Genesis by Hajden 2019-10-21T02:26:04Z

Lovely art and feel. Not much to do, and not clear that what you're doing doesn't lead to anything, which was a little frustrating once I realized it, but as a zen, meditative thing, it works really well. I love the sound and graphics.

The Drainpipe Market by Tom Frikker 2019-10-09T01:59:51Z

Neat graphics. It was hard to know whether a trade was good or not other than the number of items - was that the only metric? I had fun looking at all the items and the descriptions and at the characters you created. Interface is simple, clean, and easy to use.

Sand&Sea by CaptAndrey 2019-10-19T21:53:09Z

Very chill game. Great visuals, nice sounds. A little random and frustrating, but so is the beach. I really enjoyed this one.

Caravana by Josh.Galecki 2019-10-20T22:10:42Z

Very cool story and mood. The combat I couldn't figure out very well, other than to flee from the guys, then try a quick turn. Adding a jump helped a little, or maybe I just got better at the timing. But it was a really neat story idea, and I liked the dialogue between Saul and Soleil. I wish there were a little more to it, but I enjoyed it.

ECHO by GameSup 1st year promo 2019-10-19T04:42:24Z

I like the art a lot, and the music and sound effects were cool. I found myself wishing I could see the cave and the monsters more frequently, because I really liked how they looked. In terms of gameplay, it was a little frustrating and repetitive, and I frequently hit random monsters in the dark, which is the point, but which was a little frustrating. I agree that getting stuck on the walls was too frequent - some smoother collision detection or motion would have helped. Cool mood, and the black screen to start really is nothing, so good job on the theme. Cute player art also.

Hangman With Nothing by frankhjwx 2019-10-08T03:26:50Z

Interesting concept. There turned out to be no connection between the letters I was destroying and the letters I was typing, which threw me for a bit. Also, I assumed (as in regular hangman) that repeated letters would all show up when I typed them, which was not true. Finally, I gave up on PEN APPLE when it wouldn't let me type, but I see in comments that I could probably have nuked the level name and number to get another letter. I wasn't really sure why I had to earn letters in that way - there wasn't a challenge or time limit or anything, so it was just some extra work to do. The clues were fun, although I'd stay away from politics with this.

Blank by MoebiusMeow 2019-10-09T16:12:03Z

Well, that was the slowest I've ever read a poem :-). Very atmospheric, with neat visuals and a nice sense of animation and style. The percentages didn't make any sense to me until I eventually realized I was just looking for 20 pieces of any size, not a percent of the area. Music was tranquil and very nice. Happened to finish just as I did - not sure if that was designed, but a nice touch.

Rhythmic Nothing by Vyndilis 2019-10-08T05:13:12Z

Fun and peppy game. Not that much to do, but the music and visuals were cool, and I liked that there was good feedback for what I was doing. I found that there was a much bigger window to be wrong after the beat than before, so I ended up hitting it a little late each time and doing better that way, although that grated a little since I'm a tuba player, and we try to keep on the beat perfectly. Nice work.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Defend the Keep! by omaskery 2020-04-20T22:23:06Z

The 3D stuff is really cool, and you've presented it in a way where it's understandable but still neat-looking. I liked the long travel time and ballistic paths for the shells - reminded me of Missle Command from my youth. It seemed pretty hard to lose. Eventually I just stopped firing, and my castle seemed to heal as fast as it was getting hurt. Do the walls get shorter when you get hit? It might be nice to have some more clear indicator of whether you're doing well or getting hurt (a sound, a bar, a display of HP). Nice effort; with some more polish and variety, could be really really cool.

The Living Blob by dob 2020-04-20T04:47:10Z

Thanks, all, for your comments. @comatomatoes I knew the last level was possible, I just hadn't won it yet before publishing. I just thought it was kind of funny publishing a game I hadn't been able to win. But thanks for letting me know. I was able to complete it about 30 minutes after the release when I went in with more medicine. @frances I agree - I really wanted to add a no-legal-moves detector and offer a restart of the level, but I just didn't have time. Sorry about that.

The Living Blob by dob 2020-04-21T05:01:31Z

@jimbly Sorry about that - it does get a lot of sprites going if the board is full, and my development PC is pretty fast. I was worried about it slowing down on laptops. I'm glad you were still able to succeed.

twisty shooty by chromableedstudios 2020-04-21T06:41:38Z

Nice effort. I found the rotation-plus-sideways controls hard to figure out, and that made the four-way shooting really hard to use, but it was interesting. Some hint as to how many times you can get hit (life gauge, etc) would be helpful. Music and sound were cool.

The Protector by James Gillespie 2020-04-20T03:25:15Z

Graphics are really great. I had a very hard time figuring out how to fight or collect resources. I managed to chop some wood, and one time I got some metal, but I wasn't sure what control I was hitting or what I was doing that caused that to happen. I think some better instructions or more obvious feedback on actions would be useful. It didn't seem possible to fight, but I know it must be. I tried moving, swinging, clicking, etc., and couldn't tell if I was doing anything. Fun concept and really pretty, just a little confusing.

Balloon Jump by Blueman 2020-04-20T20:17:46Z

Well executed, with cute graphics, good physics, intuitive controls, and a clear concept that relates to the theme. I found it very difficult, but that's ok. Sometimes it wouldn't bump - it seemed like maybe the head was the only active collision option. It might have been a little more forgiving :-). Good work! I like the music.

Garden Defence by Sir. Syko 2020-04-22T19:14:57Z

Graphically crisp, with very simple controls. It wasn't clear to me why I needed to move much at all, since the range of the gun was big enough to hit the guys around the garden. If you couldn't shoot through the garden, that would make more sense. It would be nice to have some visual indicator of the health of the guys or the trees, and I think having one hit to kill guys would be better given that they're eventually going to overwhelm you anyway. Good work with this - it was fun to try out.

Bodyguard by kodran 2020-04-20T03:18:37Z

Very cool visual style and a creative idea. Very much in line with the theme. Success feels a little random, in whether or not you get a good enough Venn diagram hint early enough to do OK. The hidden clues were lost on me until I read the info here - I didn't really know who the VIP was, and I sure didn't know these other clues. If it had been hinted in some way in-game that there were other clues, that would have made it more of a puzzle. Nice work! Fun one.

Dog Signal - Ludum Dare 46 entry by vivek.sharma20 2020-04-21T06:37:48Z

Your link does not work for me.

Until Sunrise by Jishin 2020-04-23T22:39:25Z

Great graphics, lighting, sound, and music - such an atmospheric masterpiece. It was a lot of fun to run around and chop. I found the chopping interface a little hard, especially when attacking the bad guys - often my clicks wouldn't work. Sometimes with the trees, too. I got all the upgrades purchased and my fire back to healthy with about 20 minutes left, and I didn't see the point of waiting around until the end. Maybe it should be a shorter game? Or maybe I missed something else that was going to happen, but I waited for a while. Very impressive entry - thanks, and good work.

Flower Defense by Tyrael 2020-04-24T19:30:38Z

Pixel art was fun, and the overal game was interesting, although it got repetitive. I found it very easy - won on the first play with nearly zero flower damage - and only used the jumping for the boss. Good work.

Keep it, Alice by Neon Glass 2020-04-23T22:21:51Z

Interesting take on this. I shot a ton of crabs and collected water, but then I got lost in the web of portals and couldn't get back to the tree. Tried a couple of times with the same results. Music is cool, and game was fun, although I expected something else from the description, and it turned out to be more of a shooter with map skills I seem to lack. Nice work on this.

Seven by zc74560 2020-04-21T07:19:39Z

This is my favorite game so far. So clever. Really fun puzzles, and a ton of them to play. Great work. I love it.

UnLeeched by Jason Q 2020-04-21T02:36:29Z

Very cool art and music. I especially liked the swirling snake's (lamprey's?) animation. Controls were smooth and intuitive, and it was a fine platformer. It was a little frustrating when the levels started repeating, and it seemed difficult to reach all places on each level, but maybe I wasn't great at exploring. Nice work.

Hisen's Heroes by Gilokko 2020-04-23T04:49:14Z

I wasn't familiar with this programming environment, but it looks like it has a lot of flexibility. Interesting to run around and see what you'd put in there.

Fishy Escape by Vyndilis 2020-04-23T22:15:59Z

Cute, with crisp appealing graphics and fun sounds and music. Tranquil and fun to play. The coconut stun mechanic came as a surprise for me - very nice. I like these simple ones. Good work!

Ludum Dare 46 by 128bit 2020-04-20T17:56:04Z

A good first effort - it works, it has menus, and it's playable. There's not a ton to the game yet, but having a functional game is a great achievement as you get started. One grammar note - the way you're using "Weed" in your game instructions and in your post here is slang for marijuana for Americans. If you used "weeds" it wouldn't mean that.

Keep Him Alive by Bulent Altinay 2020-04-23T04:45:20Z

Interesting game. I had a little trouble figuring out the movement (arrows were rotation and thrust rather than cardinal directions), but once I did, I could play OK. The levels were fun, and the dropping floor was an interesting mechanic that made it a lot more tricky to win. The exit button crashed the game, although that's not a big deal. Nice work on this.

keep her alive by katzzzzz3.0 2020-04-20T18:07:33Z

Cute concept - nice work. I like the candy puns.

Ubergine by curleysam 2020-04-20T18:03:31Z

I love the art, sound, music, and visual design here. Controlling two things at once is challenging, but I got used to it after a bit. The gun powerups are really fun. I couldn't help thinking one of the bad guys was Kevin Smith, although I don't know if he likes eggplant. Very cool game, plenty of fun.

Baby Simulator by EdZ123 2020-04-23T04:41:44Z

Supremely silly, but fun and frantic. I got the pumpkin confused with the orange, and I couldn't figure out how to handle the diapers and the fruits - there didn't seem to be enough time. Nice work - a memorable entry.

Don't Forget To Water! by Thor Lucas 2020-04-20T05:40:10Z

Finished it all - nice work. A cool concept for the theme, and an appealing interface. Cool game.

Skip A Beat by Zyger 2020-04-20T18:37:39Z

Tremendous work on the graphics, sound, design, and presentation. So impressive. The game is hard, but with a very simple design, but it's fun in the same way Flappy Bird and other such games are. Very cool for a first entry.

Block Pusher by Pixipit 2020-04-21T02:27:24Z

This is simple, but very cool. Success or failure feels a little random given the location of the yellow block cannons, but I got better after learning a few tricks. Sound and music are solid, collisions and momentum work well, and graphics are appealing. Nice job.

Keep IT-Support Alive! by debuggerpls 2020-04-22T19:20:41Z

Very silly and fun concept, with fun and elaborate art and animation. Really nice work there. I couldn't figure out any way to avoid people in the hall, which meant I pretty much insta-lost on the third floor each time I played. I'm sure I'm missing something. I tried going through with the lights off or waiting in the elevator, but I always hit him. I enjoyed the conversations at the bottom while I played. Some of the art layering was weird - I had the graffiti sprayed on my guy sometimes. Very good humor throughout.

Galactic Crèche by Paul Stiles 2020-04-20T16:03:53Z

This was cute, with fun sounds and music. Gameplay was pretty simple, but fun. It took me a while to get the controls - I think I would have made them clockwise as the ship is pointed up, but not a big deal. Also hard to get the ship not to hit rocks as it spins, but I got the hang of it my second game. The pulling mechanic wasn't quite obvious - it seemed to work well sometimes, but others, it didn't do anything, and I wasn't sure how the blue bar correlated. Fun and creative - nice work.

Garden of Error by Soulcube 2020-04-21T02:51:23Z

Very cool art and mood. I didn't really understand the gameplay much - I tried to lure guys around and away from the evil-seeming ones, but I wasn't clear why they died when they did, or which ones were good or bad to keep alive. Impressive design for such a short period. Nice work!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Falling Time by g12345 2021-05-01T00:46:01Z

A functional, complete game that plays well. I made it through a goodly number of levels, but never saw anything I could shoot - maybe that came later? But it works, and it was done on time, and it looks nice. I hope you're feeling better.

Xylem and Phloem by OfficialCodeNMore 2021-04-30T02:22:53Z

Really creative and interesting idea. I'm not sure there was strategy here other than just trying to maximize growth rate, but it was a very interesting model to play around with. Never seen anything like this. Very cool.

Magic Takes Root by PeculiarCarrot 2021-04-28T04:53:26Z

Fun game with a neat dual gameplay. Creative concept, and appropriate for the theme. The art is really great, and the music and sounds are fun too. I liked adding hats to my fairy.

Hole Town by dob 2021-04-28T04:48:17Z

@hutchings90 Centipedes? You might have the wrong game here. :-)

Hole Town by dob 2021-05-02T19:00:46Z

@ultimatewalrus Sorry about the confusion. If you click on the Victory banner or hit a key while the mouse is in the window, you should advance to the next level.

Soil Surfer by bentglasstube 2021-04-28T17:20:45Z

This was fun! Very simple for an open-world experience, although it was fun to wander around and see what showed up. I was curious as to whether the different food items did different things, but I couldn't tell any difference, except that often centipedes seemed to show up right after I ate a yellow leaf. The centipedes were scary! There were rumbly sounds that didn't seem to do anything sometimes, too - not sure what that was. Art was good, music cool, gameplay intuitive and fun, and I agree that the hex movement is interesting. It was so satisfying getting to looser soil or holes and being able to move fast.

Journey To The Center Of The World by paulhocker 2021-04-29T18:29:21Z

Fun game - reminds me of RoadRace that I played back on the Commodore PET in my elementary school. The graphics were very crisp and interesting. I had a little trouble seeing any impact from my powerups on the gauges, although I am sure that was happening. It might be nicer to have more obvious feedback there. It was fun accelerating until I got to a crazy fast descent.

Inner Demons by Zettelkasten 2021-04-29T16:46:23Z

Neat graphics, smooth gameplay and animation. The jumps were very high, which was fun, but also made movement a little tough. Your attack was slow and relatively small, and the pineapple-shaped enemies very fast, so I found the combat (other than the ravens, which were easy) very hard. I didn't really understand the map part, but I enjoyed going through levels and exploring, although nearly all of them had seemingly empty repetitive rooms that didn't have much point. But overall, very impressive effort for such a short time, and a cool entry.

Fathomless by SilkyPantsDan 2021-05-05T02:35:25Z

Graphics and art are ridiculously cute and very crisp, with a distinct fun style. Sounds and music are great. Controls and gameplay are smooth and make sense. The game is crazy hard, but I had fun failing a lot and dying >100 times. Very nice work.

The Fall of Alice by kr4ft3r 2021-05-01T00:58:48Z

Really interesting choice here, with a neat concept, a cool literary tie-in, and ethereal music. I felt like Alice was pretty sexualized for a little girl, but I see that you were trying to do that as commentary on Carroll. Still, felt kind of icky, but that might have been your point. Very artsy entry :-) Nice work.

The Fall of Alice by kr4ft3r 2021-05-05T04:19:08Z

@kr4ft3r I totally understand where you were coming from. Despite the design document, which of course I didn't have access to, she's only seven or so in the books, which is what I was assuming for the art. I'm sorry if my comments caused distress.

Demden by Wesxdz 2021-04-30T05:54:30Z

I enjoyed this. Great look, very cool concept. It was hard to figure out what to do from the directions, but I eventually got it and mastered the controls and risks. Made it a few levels in before an unfortunate chomping on my best game. I wasn't sure what the money was for - maybe a feature later on, or not quite added? Cool game - nice work.

Air-O-Space by zoarfy 2021-04-29T05:36:22Z

This is really hard! I enjoyed it, though. Great graphics and music, and a cool concept. My only suggestion would be to make the dialogues move faster at the beginning (if they were skippable, I couldn't figure out how), and when you start to pass out, keep the text visible - it's no fun not being able to read the funny text, even if you are close to losing. I wasn't sure if leaving guys unprocessed was bad or not - I lost track of many of them, especially near the edges or when I blew it trying to drop them. Very fun idea, very creative, very nice work.

LuK-2000 and the Fragments of the Past by Avzgui 2021-04-29T06:17:11Z

Beautiful art and cool sounds. I found the gameplay a little frustrating for some of the reasons folks said above - the guy was sometimes very slow, and it wasn't always clear what the various tools or boxes were for until you'd already blown it, which then required some repetitive play bogged down by the slowness again. But it was smooth and pretty and eventually made sense, and the whole thing is very impressive.

Gloomby's Misadventure by don.shinski 2021-04-29T06:07:59Z

Interesting game, but very difficult to play and understand - might have been good to include a simpler tutorial level before diving in. But cool looking and charming. Nice work.

Dig Straight Down! by Reispfannenfresser 2021-05-04T22:46:22Z

As others have said, a little hard to figure out. Some more robust instructions would have helped, but I got there eventually. A very neat construction game, with lots of elaborate sections for such a short programming stint. Very impressive.

Donut Chat by Colletto Gregory 2021-04-30T02:08:00Z

Interesting idea. The visuals and music are nice. Dialogue tree is fun, but not very deep, and a little hard to realize you've reached an endpoint. Controls are interesting and cool. Nice work!

To the Core by Eric Smith 2021-04-29T22:27:10Z

Interesting game, well executed. Like others, I found the hazard dirt to be too close in color to the regular dirt, and I almost never spotted it. Gameplay is simple, but it is presented well, and everything works and flows smoothly. Music is nice. As a geology professor, I have to say it is not the most accurate representation of the Earth, but neither was The Core.

Blue Eye - Salvage & Rescue by PurpledArtFrog 2021-04-27T05:18:14Z

Very cool art and engaging gameplay. I wasn't really sure about the interface, even though a played a number of times. I did get to 500 depth and just died, which was a surprise - I had plenty of light and battery at that point, so it wasn't clear why I died. The music and sound and little animations are all neat. I agree with others that it wasn't always clear what objects were good and what were bad. Nice game, though - very professional looking.

Don't Splat The Bat! by RubixNoob13 2021-04-30T05:17:23Z

This is really fun, but I found it super hard. Way too many rocks to avoid given the speed I was traveling. A slower difficulty ramp-up would be a lot more fun. But visually it's neat, it all makes sense, and I absolutely love the sonar graphics - so cool.

Deep Sea Mining by Ausstein 2021-05-04T22:38:00Z

Rating the LD version here: Really enjoyable game. I love me some upgrade-buying - always a fun mechanic. I thought the art was really great - endearing and well-designed. Obviously, it's hard to get really great gameplay in such a short time, but yours was fun, if not too complex. As others have noted, I found the turning and shooting very hard, especially with the gun on the top of the sub, and with it changing position as the turns caused the art to invert. Best to have that consistent from a gameplay perspective, even if it doesn't make naval sense. Sounds were good too. I wish the slow dialogues would fast forward to the full text when I clicked rather than vanishing - I really didn't want to wait the whole time to read them, but I didn't want to miss information either. Nice work on this - a fun and polished entry.

20.000 LIGHT YEARS deep in THE SKY by Arivenzys 2021-04-28T04:02:27Z

Really beautiful game with lots of creativity and very extensive content. The art is the best part, but the voice acting is really fun too. Very nice work on this.

Dreamer by James_7777 2021-04-29T18:22:07Z

High score list is a nice touch. I wanted to do that, but then I went without score and just for level progress. Smooth game with interesting art and sounds. The mechanics weren't very deep, and it was hard to dodge the obstacles given that you coudln't see them coming. I guess there could be a memorization component here too, but I didn't play enough times to start to get that down. I didn't fully understand the scoring or the mass of blobs in the upper left, as other people have mentioned, although killing lots of guys at once got me higher multipliers. Nice work for a dynamic finished product.

Search for the Undergem by FluffyGameDev 2021-04-29T17:01:56Z

Interesting and well-constructed. I had a couple of frustrating falling deaths before I figured out the ladder rules. I think I would have preferred a smaller map with more dense interesting stuff, but this was cool. I liked how you could sort of build yourself a mine structure and expand on it in repeated missions. Nice work.

LumenBrink by mrawde 2021-04-29T06:03:35Z

This was fun. There were a whole lot of puzzles without much variation in mechanics, which eventually got a little repetitive - it might have been neat to add some kind of complexity to the game, like teleporters, or items that trigger filling or emptying of squares nearby, or something like that. But I enjoyed it, and it played well and looked good. Nice work. I got to Ending 1, but I don't know what the other endings would be...

Go to Heck 💀 by Chris Dirkis 2021-04-27T05:09:27Z

I played a few times through. I like the feel and the look - very cool - and the grapnel thing was fun. I found it frustrating that the skull guys could get on my head and then be unshootable unless I got some distance - I understand it should be hard, and that bad guys on your head should hurt, but I felt like the mechanics were getting in the way of fun there, and I'd rather just take damage while slowly killing them than have to do all the weird jumping. Very hard. Graphics and mechanics very solid. I got quite a few powerups after a while, but I didn't really know what they did other than the health kit. I imagine there's more complexity than I was able to survive to see. Random maps and multiple enemies were cool.

Dive & Dig by andrewkennedy 2021-05-01T03:46:53Z

Fun idea, and some very funny dialogue. I wish it had not auto-advanced through it so often, as others said. Really cool graphics, intuitive controls. I sort of wanted there to be more to the game, but it was fun to dig around and blow stuff up. I liked the sound and music, too.

Into the Deep by Adam K 2021-04-27T05:37:54Z

Fun game! Interesting gameplay and enemies, and lots of complexity with the powerups. The difficulty ramped up really fast, but that's fine for this kind of thing.

Where's my dynoMITE? [LD48] by miej 2021-04-29T05:47:11Z

This one was a real hoot. I love the sound and the ragdoll on the guy. My guy died nearly immediately, but that didn't stop him from throwing dynamite somehow. The crudeness of the art is really more of a fun feature than a problem for me. I loved the little touches (STAHP!, the smiley faces in the pit, the Wilhelm scream, the fun voice comments). The rope was hard to deal with, and when I got the guy stuck on terrain and pulled him upward, he twanged through terrain and the rope was never the same. The zoomy camera I could have done without - that was a little nauseating. This was a delight, though, with all of the silliness.

Miner Rescue by mausimus 2021-04-28T04:01:00Z

Very cool look to this, and the controls make sense. I had a little trouble figuring how to achieve my goals (hit a lot of beams). Still a little unclear on the miner rescue mechanism. But it looks neat, plays fast, and is a fun match to the theme.

AntiVirus by zazz0000 2021-04-30T02:14:58Z

Very hard - I couldn't figure out the second password. But you've done a beautiful job of recreating a desktop, with movable folders and openable files.

48 Tons by Scruffylooking2121 2021-04-27T05:31:09Z

Very creative and fun - lots of jokes hidden in there. Fits the theme well, and I really liked the humor. Nice work!

Acceptance by wooliii 2021-04-28T04:11:18Z

Very cool music, and the text and concept are really great - nice feel and mood. The gameplay is a little simple, but the puzzles are interesting, and the lighting effect is really neat. Nice work!

Bug Well by Numex 2021-04-28T04:05:21Z

This is a neat, visually impressive game. Not a ton of complexity, but it was solid and it looked really nice. Good work.

STOCKS by MenacingMecha 2021-04-29T22:53:34Z

I had a hard time knowing when to buy and sell, or what I was trying to do. When I started hitting the green zone, I kept losing money, but from others' comments I see that I might have been hitting the wrong keys. It has a good look and a great sense of style. There are some number formatting issues that crop up with commas. It would have helped me to have some more instructions to go from. Nice work, though, and a creative concept.

Vertabyss by UltimateWalrus 2021-05-01T18:17:58Z

Cool and unique concept. I found it really hard to play - the visuals didn't work for me, and I could never tell where I was shooting. But I could appreciate the difficulty and the work that went into it.

Greg's Little Adventure by Jfroggg 2021-04-29T16:56:02Z

Very cute graphics. I found the platform jumping somewhat frustrating - it was hard to know with the perspective camera how far I was going to go and where I'd be supported on lilypads/platforms etc. rather than falling through. But it had a very neat look to it, and obviously a lot of work. Doing a 3D game is quite ambitious, and you should be proud of what you got done.

Deep Breath by Saltysa 2021-04-29T17:08:11Z

Really great style of art and music. The different levels of psychosis, with different obstacles, level structures, and monsters, was fun and very creative, although it took a while to change states, so making progress could be a little random and slow. You also never knew if you'd be creating danger for yourself or not, although generally deeper=harder. I died so much and so often that a less obtrusive death screen would have been much appreciated, or maybe a health bar so I didn't have to watch it so much. Very creative take on a platform game and cool incorporation of the theme.

LD49 — Unstable

NAMU by ekun 2021-10-12T04:14:21Z

Really tranquil and smooth. I liked how the direction the segments were moving before the drop actually affected how they landed and connected, and I liked how the lower segments became more stable/glued together after a while, so that little instabilities lower down didn't kill the whole thing. The music was funky and fun, too. 16 trunks was my best tree. Nice work.

Connection Lost by mvasko2 2021-10-04T21:41:09Z

Very exciting game with a good vibe and a clever backstory that relates to the theme. It was a little frustrating that the other cars could turn on a dime and I had to steer, but making them steer realistically would have been really hard.

I think compo purists would not allow sound effects taken from public libraries. Check the "derivative works" section for the Compo rules.

A really fun one - congrats - smooth and looks nice.

Project Stallion / Zherebets Proyekta by dob 2021-10-09T17:34:35Z

@harrison-dunn Sorry about the trouble. If a level has control rods, they should extend with space and retract when released - mouse location doesn't matter. I wonder if a different browser would work better, or if you have a non-traditional or non-western keyboard? Anyway, thanks for playing, and sorry for the brokenness.

Project Stallion / Zherebets Proyekta by dob 2021-10-10T06:54:18Z

@harrison-dunn They're little gray boxes, and they're pretty obvious when they extend. They don't show up until level 4, so it's likely you didn't get to them now that I re-read your original post. Sorry about that. Here's a pic of them partially extended.

Project Stallion / Zherebets Proyekta by dob 2021-10-10T21:33:02Z

@papabirb Thanks for the extensive commentary! Yeah, Level 7 is pretty flaky, but I got good enough while playing that I win it every 3-5 tries. Background music would have been nice, but 48 hours is only so long  Thanks for playing.

Project Stallion / Zherebets Proyekta by dob 2021-10-11T12:14:23Z

@strangeryann Thanks for playing and for the kind words. I’ve never done anything like this is part of a team. I’m certainly weaker at visuals/graphics than other parts, but I kind of enjoy dabbling with all the different pieces.

The Unstable Zone by Zarkonnen 2021-10-04T17:19:00Z

Very cool. I love when it changes font and heads to a different scenario - very nice touch. Creepy and fun. Music is moody and appropriate.

Fission Horse in The Escape From the Condemned Stables by nanolotl 2021-10-09T07:39:38Z

McAfee wouldn't let me unzip this - it's done that with a couple other games, usually .lua files. A shame - I'd like to play it - my game also involves radioactive horses and the unstable joke :-)

Unstable Heroes by Apples_mmmmmmmm 2021-10-07T20:24:01Z

Lost the rogue, but I defeated the ogre eventually. I got one spell stabilized, but I couldn't really see the strategic advantage of doing others. Fun retro feel, though. I accidentally had my warrior attack the rogue as my first action, so maybe preventing stupid options would be good. Or I could just not be stupid.

I played through again and understood the stabilization a little better - got four powers stabilized, and used the Rogue's sneak attack successfully.

Mr Plutonium by KekkoDude 2021-10-06T03:18:06Z

Really interesting concept, and also very hard. I like the graphics and the sound design. Very cool little game.

U.N.S.T.A.B.L.E by Stefanie Leitch 2021-10-08T19:56:20Z

This is a really neat concept - I like the idea of minigames. I played for quite a while, and I could never find anything that let me shoot, and I couldn't find anything to do with the welding gun. I couldn't seem to switch from the fire extinguisher (which I could use, but there were no fires). I tried clicking on the other items at the bottom, no luck. They all had full green bars. Not sure what the problem was.

Meltdown by fusionnist 2021-10-10T06:45:02Z

Great music, fun game from a simple concept. I got to a point after a while where there was no way up - metallic blocks, but not enough of them to jump on. Maybe there's something I missed, but it seemed like not a great ending. I love the art style and the background music. The controls are mostly great, although I did have some platforming trouble sometimes making it to one-square ledges. Very impressive work - nice job!

Umine by gustavo.christino 2021-10-04T20:45:20Z

I moved around and mined and found a few resources. Having the instructions and goals follow me for quite a while (instructions) and forever (goals) was a little annoying. It would have been nice if I could see where the resources were - I felt like all I could do was mine for a while and see if anything turned up. The bombs were exciting, but I only had a limited number, and again, I couldn't see a good strategic place to use them. I did like the bird following me around.

Platform Fall by chaosbrick 2021-10-12T04:18:23Z

Crashed out for me with unhandled exception, even after installing OpenAL. Sorry, couldn't play.

UnstaLaser by Roelosaurus 2021-10-05T07:21:09Z

Fun, simple game with very appealing graphics and presentation. The game is a little frustrating, but I imagine repeated plays to try to nab a high score could be entertaining and strategic. A nice take on the theme.

Fuse by C1FR1 2021-10-04T20:47:54Z

I need more instructions on how to run this - is there a framework or interpreter I need to download?

Red Flag (Le Temps des Tempêtes) by Achiru 2021-10-10T22:22:11Z

Very cool concept and game. I loved the visual style, and the gameplay was unique and interesting. I found it pretty hard to aim and shoot, but I think that's the challenge here. Music, sounds, font, and weather were all great, although I had a hard time seeing my cannon balls against the night sky.

Collapse by epb9000 2021-10-09T07:35:22Z

Frenetic and exciting, with a neat look and a fun soundtrack. I don't love platformers where I can't see information I need to survive, and this has a lot of that. Might be nice to offer a wide view of the layout before starting the level (or at least the option for one) to reduce repetitive flailing. Smooth controls, a good look, and impressive variety of levels and parts. Very nice work.

Star Dash by ZaneDD 2021-10-06T20:08:24Z

Completed my race (on the 4th try) at 135.96. Fun game, with smooth controls and cute graphics. I had a little trouble understanding how the thrust worked, because I didn't realize there was a top speed I could hit, so I just ran out of fuel the first three games. On the one I won, one enemy ship blew up (good that they follow the same rules), and the other just got stuck on a wall, which seemed more like a glitch. Nice work - impressive for a short timeline.

You have Audio as a rating category, but I didn't hear any sound while playing.

Fission Friends by Peco 2021-10-06T05:34:51Z

Fast and fun, with very appealing graphics and sounds. I didn't pick up on the beam color thing at first, but it makes sense and adds complexity. I don't know why you'd ever want to turn the beam off - am I right on that? Neat take on the theme, fun little game.

Un's Table by IndigoWolf 2021-10-05T22:02:54Z

Massive props for use of theme - very funny and clever. The game is a little hard to play, but it's still super amusing.

Picasso Bridge Disaster by TheWustache 2021-10-07T20:44:54Z

Such a neat idea. Some of the levels seemed like they had serious issues with the physics and collision detection, which made them less fun, but this was a very cool concept and a great use of the theme. I appreciate the high degree of difficulty in programming this kind of thing, too.

Devil's Sitter by VPhyre 2021-10-06T04:45:51Z

Very cute game and fun concept. Like others, I sometimes had trouble figuring out what the objects were, and the chair interface was difficult (although that might have been deliberate). Very good graphics, smooth programming and feel, good music - very nice effort.

Prakzar's Problematic Potion Puzzle Pit by Echo GameWorks 2021-10-10T21:47:17Z

This is really cool. Like some of the other commenters, I think it would be a little more fun if you had more of a chance to build chains - I couldn't really get that to work, although I tried. They'd just break, or other potions would fall and get in the way. I really liked the potion bottle animation - very, very solid, even as they were rolling, and the physics was great. Music and sound effects were very cool also. Nice work!

Harmono by leon75 2021-10-11T23:08:57Z

Very interesting concept. I wasn't sure how exactly to interpret the visuals and rules - e.g. I got stuck at the end of the tutorial and eventually just quit out. I also wasn't sure whether doing shift or control had any impact on the game, although it was fun to hear the higher and lower notes. But fun to jam along with the game. I did the tutorial, the first one, and then the crazy one, and I totally lost on crazy on about measure 16. Fun idea - thanks for making it.

Unstable Atoms by Fersyvanderzee 2021-10-04T20:51:08Z

Appealing graphics and sounds. Gameplay was very simple, although the orbiting electrons gave the movement a nice twisty feel. Nice work.

Stack'N by KingOfNova 2021-10-06T22:05:05Z

Very simple and very zen, with a really great soundtrack and simple controls (although it took me quite a while to realize space bar was what dropped bricks). Appealing graphics and colors too. I got 380 on my best run - weird that you get a lot of points when it starts to fall over. Nice work here.

A Solar Disorder by lovetocode999 2021-10-12T18:43:12Z

Smooth and appealing with good sounds. Really interesting how the shooting creates inverse momentum - that's a neat feature. One quibble - the gravity does not work like actual gravity, which means you can't ever enter into a stable orbit, and instead you are always sucked into the sun regardless of trajectory. That means this game doesn't play like Spacewar and other derivatives, which is disconcerting for an old school guy like me. Real gravity is weaker the farther away you are (inverse R^2), and with that, it is relatively easy to get into an orbit, even an elliptical one, on games like this. But your game looks and plays and sounds neat. Nice work.

Erratic Equine Extraction by hwaet 2021-10-05T00:53:04Z

I had fun with this! I did a horse-related one too, so kudos on the unstable joke. It took me a little while to realize that gravity was moving outside my control, but once I did, I could control the horse better. Cute graphics and music. Nice job!

Barn House Bananza by Frozen Spirit 2021-10-04T17:38:52Z

Getting errors when I try to run it.

Unidentified Stacking Object by Arttu Halonen 2021-10-06T05:43:51Z

Really had fun with this. Clever, fun, crisp visuals, sounds, and controls, and a whole lot of interesting physics that's very intuitive and well-executed. Nice work.

Everything is Fine by Noire 2021-10-04T17:37:41Z

Wow, what a desolate thing this is. Very well done, interesting, with a nice discovery mechanic and great art. Very clever take on the theme.

Unstable Pinball by T C 2021-10-05T00:40:45Z

Hey, how cool, a fully functioning pinball game. I really like pinball, so this was great for me. The flipper physics was very good, and I liked the cool ring rotation aspect. Some of the level design was a little unforgiving - e.g. targets placed in hard-to-reach spots where you had to hope the bumpers would help you out. I played through the three goals on the first board and then got to two more boards, but after the third, I shot the ball up to the top and nothing ever happened again - was that the end?

Very cool game. I've tried to program pinball before and it's hard to get the right feel, so I know that is tricky. Graphics and use of theme were very good too.

MIFFED by Caladrius 2021-10-10T21:52:10Z

Really funny - I loved the video elements and the dialogue. Very fun idea, well executed.

Bitrot by Maxathon 2021-10-07T04:18:23Z

Really cool idea for the theme, and the game is very well put together, with the growing sense of glitchiness. Just great work. Obviously, with more time, you could have added more weirdness, but this is just really neat, and remarkable for three days. Nice job.

Deathrail by Hotowlgirls 2021-10-07T20:49:30Z

Nice, smooth game, with a lot of challenge and fun graphics. Fits the theme too, with the balance aspect. Rocking soundtrack and cool sound fx too. Nice work!

Space Ace in: Meltdown Madness by dreamscale 2021-10-15T02:38:37Z

Very impressive to do a good-looking, functional 3D game in such a short time. I agree with others that the aiming is a little weird - some shots are only possible if you steer while already at the edges of the screen, which seems not really intuitive. I think it would feel more fair if the aiming either always straight ahead or more generally steerable from a stopped position (e.g. with mouse). Very neat that you have the comms messages, a story behind it, and other neat features. I would have liked to explore further, but I kept dying, and restarting got old - maybe a continue feature, or a little more forgiving on the damage? Nice work.

Card Cannons by Thomas Applewhite 2021-10-04T20:38:07Z

Neat splitscreen game concept. I tried for a while to figure out how to play, and I could make cards go away, but I couldn't seem to activate them well. I'd be intrigued to try a version where it was a little more obvious what I was doing, or where I could play vs. AI or a monster or something so that I could see better how it worked.

Un-Stabled by Denhette 2021-10-04T20:30:51Z

A very fun take on this. I also went with a getting horses out of stables with explosives theme, but yours was a very different take. The horse was fun. I had a little trouble figuring out which bomb locations would provide the biggest lift, but I eventually realized the horse isn't always centered in the little circle, and if he's closer to an edge, a bomb there will help move him higher. Very fun idea and good execution, with fun music and sound. I occasionally had camera issues where I couldn't see what I was doing, and I lost the horse to terrain on the fifth level (I think) - the one with the angled barriers. He went into the floor and I couldn't get him out except sporadically.

Really fun concept - very nice work.

Plate Spinner 2021 by StoicKekis 2021-10-05T05:37:33Z

This was a neat idea and certainly in keeping with the theme. One thing that would have made it a little more fun for me would be if there was more of a visual indication of how fast the plates were spinning. Once they were not wobbly, there wasn't much to indicate how much attention they needed. Cool game, crisp graphics, looks good.

Super Mutant Horse by cannashblue 2021-10-05T17:30:44Z

Fun and exciting! I also went with mutant horses, but in a different way. The graphics and animations were wonderful, and the soundtrack and effects really cool. Aiming things was a little counter-intuitive, but I got the hang of it after a while. Those red guys are so tough. Nice work!

Pipeworks by StarryNiteGames 2021-10-11T03:41:44Z

Very fun idea, although platformers where you have to jump into places you haven't seen yet can be a little frustrating, especially when you have to load up before even trying. I loved the liquid physics - very real seeming and mesmerizing. 3rd level was definitely a lot harder. Nice work!

Incomplete Horse Nonsense by Harrison Dunn 2021-10-07T04:26:06Z

Really silly! I like it. I did a horse-related unstabling too, so the joke is near and dear to my heart. Very fun. I like the sound board entries too.

Noinun40 by Itzemii 2021-10-04T17:24:28Z

Interesting concept, appealing graphics. I wasn't sure exactly what the goal was, but it seemed mostly easy to avoid match-3's except a couple times when I was forced. Music was funky.

Magic Miner by m_mae 2021-10-05T17:15:16Z

Very impressive visuals and peppy gameplay. I couldn't figure out what the business was with the stuff I was supposed to collect - was that the spiky crystals? I didn't seem to be able to interact with them.

the Bar by Very Bad Bunny Studio 2021-10-05T01:12:02Z

This was fun, although there is a lot of dead time waiting to get to a place you can actually do something. I had a hard time spotting the key, but it was very rewarding when I did. Very nice work - fun idea, good execution, nice-looking art and fun sounds.

Stable Tables by Mandytoh 2021-10-12T04:27:19Z

Very appealing visuals. Gameplay is a little frantic and dependent on who orders what. I never had much trouble balancing lots of orders using Q/E - if that's a major mechanic, then it wasn't really necessary for me, at least at the level I was playing. Nice music and sound, too.

UnstableTorment by BoroBoro 2021-10-11T22:59:13Z

Fun and tense, being chased by a horde of little arm-wavy dudes. I liked the visuals. Rage mode was fun, for sure. At one point I died when my health said 31, which was a little confusing, and I didn't know what the floaty yellow things were - friend or foe? But a fast-paced fun little game. Nice work. Got 6330 on my best run - not sure how good that is.

Unstable orbit by itsmebutsolo 2021-10-10T06:51:31Z

Fun little thing, with smooth movement, appealing graphics, and some nice touches, like the parallax-ish scrolling stars. I found it a little easy to keep my ship repaired - a ramp up in difficulty and a timer might have made it something to play over again to see if I could get a better time. Nice work on this.

Slime Your Way Up by Haise 2021-10-05T21:59:08Z

Simple, fun, appealing art. Controls are tricky to grok at first but make sense after you play for a while. I agree with the folks who suggested an indicator for how strong your jump is. You could make it optional to please the purists as well.

The Collapse by Cratthew 2021-10-08T00:59:09Z

Very good for a first entry - complete, makes sense, good graphics, smooth controls, even a soundtrack. Nice work.

Unstable Profits by Pwnzer 2021-10-04T17:30:07Z

Interesting concept! I made a good many sky dollars on my growing platform. Interesting idea. I had some interface problems at first, buying pods and then dropping them immediately from the menu area. I wasn't totally sure if the weight of my pods was what was making the platform tip - I assume so, but it got pretty out of whack sometimes when I thought it was balanced. I liked the shadow graphics and the overall style.

Wobbly Cannonry by LucDeligne 2021-10-10T21:57:14Z

Such a clever idea! Very neat. Success has a lot to do with random luck, but that's OK - very fun.

The Land Of The Hungry God by circle 2021-10-04T18:09:09Z

Interesting concept, well executed. I'd have liked to know how much the different buildings consume and produce. Well done.

The Land Of The Hungry God by circle 2021-10-04T21:48:34Z

Hey, thanks for the review back - your comments really made my day. I tried yours to the end also (lost to the hungry god). I really liked the expansion mechanic.

Lava Frog by mathgeek 2021-10-11T23:14:11Z

I had much the same experience as previous commenters - couldn't get past about ten platforms without dying, and it was very, very hard. Sometimes I seemed to be in lava with no consequences; other times I insta-died. I think it would feel a bit more fair if the platform you were on didn't move as much as the others, so that your leaps could be more planned and the outcome a little less random. Ominous music track adds to mood - that poor, tortured frog. :-)

Unstable Lava by Weenie Walker Games 2021-10-12T19:28:45Z

Neat looking, smooth performance on my PC and not dark at all as others are saying. I found the field of view just a little too narrow for me - I'd prefer being able to see a little bit more. Some of the jump mechanics seemed unforgiving, too, but I often have that problem with platform games, so it's probably just me. Sound effects were fun, 3D models simple but nice looking, and music was cool, as was the lava effect. Nice work on this.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Breakfast Time in Dream Land by rjhelms 2022-04-12T04:55:29Z

What a tremendously charming and fun game, with an adorable concept! I slept until 5:46. After a few levels, I just held the fire button down, and I was firing at a crazy fast rate by the end, so fast that my success or failure on any level was probably entirely random. Very fun, and very well done, with good sounds, graphics, and gameplay.

A duck on ice by jk5000 2022-04-08T07:42:07Z

Simple game, smooth, intuitive, controls, really funny story stuff. The floppy feet and the head fan were amazing touches. Very nice work.

Kharon's Twilight by dob 2022-04-04T20:23:34Z

Thanks for playing! Yeah, there's an issue with speed that I'm trying to track down. Also some clicking glitches that I think result from the speed hit. Most pronounced in Chrome.

Kharon's Twilight by dob 2022-04-06T22:49:49Z

Thanks for all the insights and nice comments. @googlypoo The way to get extra slots for Power Moves is the green tiles that show up in the Buy phase - those give you another Power Move option each turn (limit of 8 slots, which fills the whole column). You always have one Despair tile from the start as your only Power Move. If you don't have enough Power Moves to fill available slots, the extras get filled in with Despair also.

Kharon's Twilight by dob 2022-04-15T21:28:04Z

@team-choo-choo Thanks for the kind words and for offering to feature the game. I sent some art and notes and comments. 10AM CEST is 4AM here, so I don't think I will likely be able to join you :-) But thanks, and I hope it goes well.

Dungeon Escape by mar3k 2022-04-06T20:13:40Z

Fun game reminiscent of the 1980's. Nice variety of enemies and powerups. I could have used a bit of a tutorial to understand the health and distance mechanics. Cool sounds. Nice work!

CRAB IS INEVITABLE! by luthwyhn 2022-04-09T21:08:49Z

I really loved this, although after the first weapon upgrade, there was never any danger afterward, and by the time I got most of the upgrades, I barely ever moved except to grab urchins and could have done the can of nuts playstyle shown above. I expected the big baddie to come back, too, but he didn't, but I now see that was a bug. Not sure I have it in me to play again, after 15 minutes. Very fun idea, well executed, especially with the complexity of weapons and shots. Would have liked some sounds and a little more challenge. Not quite sure how it reflects the compo theme. Nice work!

Peace Council by guoboism 2022-04-12T05:09:12Z

Such an interesting concept, and very complex. I had a hard time figuring out what I was doing or what the various statistics meant, but it was still impressive and good-looking. I think a tutorial level, maybe with fewer variables and/or fewer nations, might be useful. Nice work!

The Climber by Necdilzor 2022-04-15T02:28:42Z

Fun, complete game. I found it quite easy - spent most of the time near the top of the screen, and won (got to the sky) my first time. Graphics were simple but appealing, and it had music, even, which is a plus.

Bastet's Quest by onnofal 2022-04-07T01:23:22Z

Absolutely beautiful art style and concept. The game was fun, although more levels and complexity would be cool. Very nice work.

Snowmageddon by PurpledArtFrog 2022-04-07T18:36:47Z

Fun game with a great look and smooth, intuitive controls. I didn't have much trouble winning the first game 13-0. I played again a couple times. Nice music, too. Does winning mean summer is not inevitable? Or maybe it's just delayed infintely? :-)

Bropocalypse by Wizard 2022-04-13T02:31:52Z

Fun concept, and ably executed. The backstory part was my favorite. Gameplay seemed quite easy at first - it might be nicer to have it ramp up faster. Nice work.

Lethal Dice 50 by marcmagus 2022-04-06T20:03:03Z

Fun idea, and an interesting and easy-to-understand mechanic. I like the LD50 nod there.

Invasion of the Sky Pirate Frogs by lovetocode999 2022-04-20T05:21:54Z

I like the concept, but the game (at least the HTML5 version) was way, way too hard. I couldn't possibly shoot fast enough to kill the ships on wave 3, and I'd only earned 15 coins by then, so there was no way to buy another cannon. Just impossible to succeed. Maybe it's better balanced in another version? Cute and fun idea, though.

Word Wizard by Slecornu 2022-04-13T21:11:17Z

This is really sharp - great graphics with an appealing style, a baller soundtrack and sfx, and a fun game concept. I got 1850 my first time through, and it was getting really hectic at the end. Really impressive work.

BOULDER by macaroni.dev 2022-04-13T06:07:55Z

Very clever, very well executed. Completely charming. I really liked this one.

Ground From Under Feet by wild_fat 2022-04-09T21:49:37Z

I had no idea what to do and died 18 seconds in about seven times. I needed a tutorial, or controls, or something. I lost platforms before it even started, and when I went to one of the red globes, nothing I did affected it. I beat up some robots one time, but I lost four platforms while doing so. Just seemed way, way too hard and too confusing. I did like the visuals - very cool animations and artwork, and the idea was a good match for the contest theme.

Escaper by Krg 2022-04-07T01:29:50Z

Cool graphic elements, like the trail. It was hard to know what I was supposed to do, and I eventually got stuck in soul mode carrying the right key around but with nothing happening. I think an easier tutorial level with more instructions would help. The soul mode is a neat idea.

Escaper by Krg 2022-04-08T07:35:53Z

You can't add a tutorial to the official compo version after the contest is over - that's new material, not a bug fix.

I have no nose, and I must smell by Enad96 2022-04-10T23:23:46Z

Great music, nice visuals. I enjoyed exploring, but I don't feel like I accomplished very much of the intended story.

Block Wizard Arena by Games_by_Tom 2022-04-09T04:30:38Z

Cool concept, well executed. Not too complex, and very luck-dependent, but fun and visually pleasing. The sounds were really soft for me - not sure why. Nice work! I survived 8 rounds.

Block Wizard Arena by Games_by_Tom 2022-04-13T06:04:14Z

Yes, soft = nearly inaudible.

You shall not pass by Senso 2022-04-08T18:23:02Z

Really quite clever! I enjoyed this one. Interesting puzzles, simple design, and fun sounds and animations. Very nice work.

Gerald by MichaelL 2022-04-08T07:51:51Z

Really neat art and music, and a fun laid-back atmosphere. Once I went to the store, I could not for the life of me get the shop menu (seeds with prices) to go away, and it kept coming back again and again, which meant my ability to do anything else was very limited.

Asteroid Annihilator by SAD Studios 2022-04-15T05:59:14Z

Super fun, great graphics, music, and sound. I like all the powerups, and how they stack when you get multiple ones. Very nice work.

God's Rage by LiveInside 2022-04-08T07:46:54Z

Very nice looking - great art. I found the jumping very hard to control, and that made it less fun for me.

Defend the Earth by SeniorWombat 2022-04-09T05:25:11Z

Very pretty, with really wonderful art and sound. I found the game really hard - I couldn't control the ship well enough to fight off the asteroids, so it didn't feel like I could actually succeed, even early on. But it was smooth and well-executed and beautiful. Very nice work.

Drater by lomstfer 2022-04-07T18:30:25Z

Simple, but really interesting controls, and the music is fun. Nice work!

Candler by SunJet 2022-04-06T19:47:44Z

Crisp and simple, with appealing graphics and a clear, easy-to-understand design. Very nice, especially for a first attempt.

Penguin Snoir by Sarah Alexa 2022-04-15T21:16:51Z

Fun game, with nice graphics touches. I found it a little swishy on the controls, but I could figure it out eventually. It seemed hard to die - one time I just sat still not firing, and I lived for over a minute. Well done for such a short time.

LD52 — Harvest

Tractor vs. Ufo by pcmaster 2023-01-15T19:21:03Z

Super clever and fun idea, and it looks great. I would have preferred the car to move and turn a little faster, and I had trouble aiming the scare, but once I figured out the distance, I could hit most of the time, if I could get to the UFO on time, which I often couldn't, because those suckers are fast. Very nice work, and very solid entry.

I made three quick bug fixes right after submission: * The level number (11) was improperly displaying on the final screen because of a sprite carryover glitch, and I took that out. * The costs of the market weren't being implemented as listed because of a math bug, which meant the economy was kind of broken, so I fixed the market and adjusted income a little bit to compensate for having the prices right. * The storage bin said 'Fruit' instead of 'Froot,' so I changed that.

Original submission minus these three bug fixes is here: https://planktongames.com/ld52original

Also, if you're curious, the mega rats mentioned in the level intro text never got implemented, but adding them would be too big a change post-submission. :-)

@vinzbad I wasn't aware of that discussion. People have been using synthetic music generators for years - not sure why the art would be different. I would understand if code was AI-generated, but that's not the case here.

Froot by dob 2023-01-09T07:26:25Z

Note: I changed the category to Jam from Compo, in light of @vinzbad informing me of the rule against AI generated art. I followed the Compo rules in every other way (solo, 48 hours, source code, I did everything from scratch).

Froot by dob 2023-01-17T05:04:45Z

@lomby Thanks for playing! I watched your stream, and you correctly intuited that buying extra farms early really helps. Seemed like you did well. I agree the key choices weren't ideal, although for a while I was using CTRL to fire, and that didn't mix well with W being the gas - kept closing my window while playing. I never did get the mega-rats implemented. Fun to see somebody else take it on - I appreciate it.

PutPutPlume by Knatt 2023-01-09T06:08:31Z

Interesting game with intuitive controls. I enjoyed myself, but I couldn't really connect what I was doing to success - the mushroom count each turn didn't seem to match either the stumps or the mushrooms I had in my color - was I collecting them somehow after turning them to my color, or did the color not matter? I wasn't clear on the goals, which might have been helped if you had some more clear positive feedback when you do something good. I didn't know how to switch clubs or how that was supposed to work, although the interface was otherwise very clear and easy to use. Nice work!

Hobby Gardener by Yngvarr 2023-01-10T18:29:55Z

Nice looking game. I planted lots of stuff and enjoyed myself. I didn't really see how it was possible to fail or finish, so I just played for a while completing challenges. Might help to have more clarity on the goals. Nice work!

Shapely units by mechanicallife 2023-01-14T07:44:44Z

I must have missed something, but I found this super hard. I tried spreading my guys out, luring enemies, kiting them, and I still died all the time. The very slow restart (having to wait for new guys to show up and then flying to the top of the screen just to restart) added to the frustration. I liked the music and the look of the graphics. I couldn't really figure out why it was a quarter gigabyte, but it played smoothly and the controls made sense. Nice work!

Flowers in C by imyellowfish 2023-01-09T05:21:30Z

Cool experiential toy. I couldn't figure out the game part - I tried just letting the stars go by without pressing space, and it slowed the animation and kept the music on rhythm, but I wasn't sure if I was having any penalty otherwise. When I tried the first time, the display and music were really neat - I liked the progression through different graphic elements and seasons, with the butterflies and seeds. Very neat work, and a unique game.

Farmed and Dangerous by Roitchie 2023-01-16T04:22:37Z

Cool looking game with neat art and smooth gameplay. I found myself wishing the weapons were a little more effective - it was kind of hard to use them, and I never figured out if the shears were actually any good or worth 300. The ant noise was creepy! Nicely done, and a fun game and a good effort.

Barn Busters by UnitedFailures 2023-01-17T05:09:30Z

Very cool entry! I enjoyed this one. Such diverse traps. I found it pretty hard to succeed, but I had a great time playing. I never did fully understand the water-placement stuff - seemed to be independent from the traps, which cost hearts? But it was fun.

None of your beesness! by SupremeKurt 2023-01-09T05:05:24Z

Very appealing appearance and concept. I didn't like:

(1) that I couldn't see the number of the space I was on, and because I had to use honey to move, that seemed like needless obfuscation. Maybe have the honey cost only apply to hidden spaces?

(2) that on almost every level, I had to guess. That was a feature of Minesweeper sometimes too, but it's even more pronounced here. Because you lose all progress and marks, it makes the forced replay a little annoying.

Well executed and fun, though, and very polished and clean with nice graphics.

Evergreen 2 by JustMars 2023-01-22T05:59:56Z

Very cool feel and neat graphics, especially with the changing light and darkness and the seasons. I had no real trouble surviving, and eventually I just gave up, although it was fun to wander around and look for food. I found aiming the bow hard - it seemed not to be pointed at the crosshair and instead somewhere over to the right, following the path of the arrow. I also had a little trouble picking up and eating stuff, but I got used to that after a bit. Very neat music, also, and a fun survival vibe.

Beet Island by coatline 2023-01-16T20:32:43Z

Very appealing and smooth-running game. I could have used a teeny bit more instruction on how to play - it took me a while to figure out the beets auto-shot at enemies, and my only job was pulling them and fleeing. I enjoyed it, although I didn't come near your high score.

My Bloody Harvest by vivek.sharma20 2023-01-14T07:55:21Z

Interesting idea. The first time, I played to a score of 102, but I didn't realize it kept going after I lost my lives. I think it would really help if there was some indication visually of how long you have before you lose a life, or when you do - I had no idea even after playing a few times how long it took. Graphics look good, and it's an interesting concept. Nice work!

The Harvest Inspector by John Gabriel 2023-01-09T05:14:17Z

Wow, great mood, really cool graphics and music and a very original idea. The timer made me nervous, but I was able to get it the first time with about a minute to go thanks to making notes and comparing. Nice work!

FaRuRoRi by Keenao 2023-01-10T18:22:35Z

Wow, fast paced and exciting, with a great art style and rocking music. I had a little trouble figuring out the strategy - way too many enemies to shoot them all, and my planting was very random, but I still had fun. 3156 points, although I died from stopping shooting/fleeing and focusing more on planting.

Goblindentured Harvester by Magnanix 2023-01-15T06:35:29Z

Really fun idea. I found it way, way easy, especially with all the obstacles being static. I couldn't figure out what any of the stats other than Endurance were doing for me, so it would be cool to know. It seemed like that was the only one that affected income very much. I also think the day counter wasn't advancing. I also had the mining bar offscreen if I tried for a deposit that was too high. But very nice work for something on such a short schedule.

Crawling to the Brink by CataclysmicKnight 2023-01-18T02:46:34Z

Really cool concept, and neat to use the pips on the cards as movement spaces. I found it a little hard to follow with all of the special thematic names for things - it might be easier to learn the game without having to learn all that lingo at the same time. Very cool concept and mood, and a fun idea. Good to see a tabletop game in here amongst the million video games.

Selective Reaper by Nick Sandison 2023-01-09T05:25:25Z

I had no idea what this would be from the instructions, but it was a really neat idea! I completely missed one of the deaths the first couple times and felt really silly. Nice art style, clever design, and a cool take on the theme.

Propaganda by She Wrote 2023-01-15T19:35:53Z

Super cute idea, and I love the take on the theme - the most clever I've seen. Very neat. Gameplay is simple but interesting and intuitive. I think 30 is a lot - I'd have gotten the point with a much lower headcount. I enjoyed it - great art, nice entry.

North 78 by fizzbark 2023-01-15T06:44:41Z

Really cool-looking game, and very creative design. I found some of the gameplay a little frustrating, with the herding, and then I never got an indication that I had "found" the deer on the second level. I drove around for about 8 minutes trying to herd them, but the stable was so far away that was never going to happen. I'm sure I was missing something. But I loved the look and feel and the concept - so neat!

GAKKI the Water Harvester by ironhandMD 2023-01-10T03:50:04Z

This was fun! Very cool, and a huge world. I liked all the different powerups and plot elements scattered around. I ended up with 67/60 and about 150 seconds left, but I wasn't sure I'd found them all. Nice work!

HARRR Vests by Lomby 2023-01-14T07:48:27Z

Such a hilarious take on the theme. So funny. The gameplay was simple but rewarding, and having the music running in another tab definitely added to the mood. Great work here.

pachinko by mnikn 2023-01-09T06:12:33Z

I played about 30 shots until I finally got in the X5, and I got a ton of marbles in return! Very cool, and the physics seemed natural and behaved in an expected manner, which can be hard to pull off in ball games. Nice work, well implemented.

Waiting on One by Aes1 2023-01-14T07:26:39Z

I managed to get a house built and a farm plot set up (although it overlapped big time with my house). I planted three wheats and then waited a bit. I had trouble creating the clock, but it eventually appeared. I tried to run the maze, but it had gravity, and my little guy got stuck at the bottom and couldn't get out, so I had to quit. Appealing graphics, and a good effort, but a little confusing.

Bearly Fitting by jamdong15 2023-01-10T04:06:15Z

Great graphics, fun gameplay. The rotation was a little unintuitive to discover (had to go RTFM) but once I got there, I was good to go. Some hard levels there. Nice work!

Witchcraft! by Bulboculus 2023-01-16T20:28:48Z

Really fun game and cool idea. It took me two tries to win. I wasn't really sure what the capabilities of the scarecrows were, although I figured most of them out. My first game, I died without losing all my haystacks or scarecrows - it just ended and told me I lost. I was definitely going to lose soon, but it didn't seem like I had yet. Fun art and sounds and a very cool entry.

Xenith by Richard Vollebregt 2023-01-10T18:36:38Z

Fun game with slick movement, music, and graphics. I found it hard to fail, and there wasn't anything different to do as the game progressed (except for the weirdly more expensive ship repairs). Fun, nice looking, very polished. Nice work.

Farming Rush by ASilvers 2023-01-14T08:11:58Z

Interesting and fun. I got 150 points, but I felt like I could have done better on a second run-through. The only thing I didn't like was having to pick the basket up again after delivering an order - it seemed like I was just carrying it, so why did it go away? Nice work, and cool idea. Nice 3D art.

Techno Plants by morpheyz 2023-01-26T20:24:25Z

Great game! Really enjoyed this one. The random enemies and layouts sometimes give you impossible situations (as others have noted), but the game is cool enough I didn't mind. I didn't feel like I had enough control to grab nutrients strategically, although I got a little better at it with repeated play. At one point, I picked "Next Leve;" and was returned to level 1 - not sure if that was intended or not. Great work, and an awesome entry.

Plant, Harvest, Make money! by huozhedexiaoc 2023-01-14T07:37:48Z

Very cool idea. The puzzles are complex and interesting, and the music is really neat. I liked this one.

LD54 — Limited Space

Stingy Seating by stevenjmiller 2023-10-02T20:21:57Z

Very clever mechanics that embrace the theme well. Simple art and sound that are perfect for this kind of game. I could have used a teeny bit more on-boarding or instructions, but I was able to figure out what I was doing after a while. Interface is clear. Nice work!

Harvest Saturn by Taldius 2023-10-03T21:03:19Z

Graphics and sound are neat-o. The game alternates between speed being a factor (when reorganizing your inventory, which is kind of frantic) and turn-based, which makes it a little hard to grok. Inventory Tetris is fun, though. Nice work.

A Parking Story by Gao Ming 2023-10-07T20:46:36Z

Great game, and great use of the theme. The red car is such a dick. I am a pretty good driver and parker, but a couple of the levels here gave me fits (see image). What fun, and such a clean, well-designed implementation. Nice work!cars.jpg

Intermodal by jotson 2023-10-03T19:41:44Z

Loved this - very clever. It took me a few tries to get the rhythm, and to realize that I could just leave goods in the storage rather than blowing through trucks I couldn't fill. Really clever, well executed, and fun. The double beep got a little irritating after seven ships, but otherwise I have no complaints. Great work!

Diminutive Dungeon by Rose 2023-10-03T20:08:57Z

Very cute! I enjoyed wandering around and coordinating both guys - solo works well. No real plot other than getting all the goodies, but that's satisfying. Music and graphics are terrific. Nice work!

Villaggio by jvolonte 2023-10-06T06:19:44Z

Very neat art - utterly charming! I had a hard time figuring out what to do, and the text was a little small, but I eventually got some points. Nice work!

Troglo by Ismael Rodriguez 2023-10-06T16:41:45Z

Charming platform game with interesting mechanics, very cool graphics and music, and a terrific opening scene for the setup. Did not like that I could die by just scrolling upward - I'm not good enough for these games for that to be a fun extra penalty, and landing on the vines was tricky. Did like the many save points - so many platform games are unplayable for me because you can't save often enough, and I'm not great at them. Nice work! My fullscreen attempt also didn't work with an error.

Sampler by caeonosphere 2023-10-07T21:18:10Z

Looked very cool, but I couldn't seem to interact with anything (mouse cursor went away and holding click didn't do anything). Couldn't do anything or get out of the first room. I'm sure I'm missing something.

EDIT: OK, I reloaded and went full screen immediately and figured it out. Was able to play through. Great game, very atmospheric. I blundered my way through the level with the triangle buttons somehow - didn't do anything systematic. The ending was very cool. Nice work!

Dwarf Looter by Matthieu Riboulot 2023-10-06T05:57:45Z

Neat fully-functional game with cool art and sounds. Exploration seemed a little random, but that goes with the genre. I loved using a salami as a weapon.

Limited Parking Space by Johnsensei 2023-10-06T05:48:25Z

I drove for a long time and never found the open spot. Wasn't sure if it was supposed to be near the restaurant or not. Driving was fun and the game looked cool, although I found the controls a little hard to use sometimes, and the other cars didn't obey traffic laws (probably a feature, not a bug). Fun, with crisp neat graphics. Nice work!

Just why? by Donitz 2023-10-03T03:09:28Z

So clever and fun. I needed many more save points than I had, but I enjoyed trying. Got past the ocean segment once, but couldn't finish. Very neat idea and very cool concept with great execution and design.

ROOMGUN by Hydezeke 2023-10-07T04:57:23Z

Fun game! I gave up after about 15 deaths on the four-sheep level (7 I think?). Those sheep guys were just way, way harder than the others, and I couldn't spin my mouse fast enough to pick them off. I liked the variety of challenge. The aiming was off to the left a little, which made it tricky - I didn't see the fullscreen advice until after. Charming and fun - I wish the difficulty wasn't so high for the sheep guys, though. Nice work!

Turtle Gatling by Francisco Lucas 2023-10-06T06:53:29Z

Simple, effective, fun. I wondered what the green gem was that I could turn gray. My talent was more limiting than my processor - played about ten times and topped out at around 850 bullets. Nice job, and a fun use of the theme.

Give Me Money by kairuma 2023-10-02T20:48:45Z

Really nice looking game with a Cookie Clicker feel. I found it a little frustrating that I ran out of meaningful stuff to do after about 5 minutes. I know you're supposed to leave this going all day and come back to it, but boosting my income 15% every 20 minutes to get to another upgrade that would take 45 minutes wasn't really a draw. Very well-executed, and very cute, with a solid implementation of the theme.

Calves of the Braves by Furano 2023-10-07T04:50:37Z

Wow, very impressive, and I love the art style. Gameplay was fun but tricky - I made it to the halo guy but only defeated him once, and that was just by dodging, making him run out of the ring. Everybody else I fought seemed able to be defeated by spamming K, although I did occasionally lose. The changing ring size was a neat touch, and the music was nice. Great work! Fun game.

Pixel Piles by Gabriel Chan 2023-10-06T17:01:59Z

Very clever mash-up of platformers and Tetris. Way too hard for me to succeed, but that's on me, not the game. Cute graphics and music add to the fun. Fits the theme well. Nice work!

Outland Escape by Spike Studio 2023-10-06T06:37:37Z

Snappy, fun controls, deep upgrade system - lots of fun. I never felt at much risk, so maybe it could have been a little harder, but I had a great time smushing zombies and adding parts. Made the jump at the end my first time after I figured out I needed speed mods. Great work, and a funky music track.

Super Cube by Senso 2023-10-03T05:42:09Z

Fun concept and cool controls. I loved the music track also. Took me a while to realize that not using the controls helped a bit. Often your success or failure seems to be luck of the draw with what squares get shot at you, but strategic use of your pink power helps. Fun one! Nice job.

Unsquished by RogerW 2023-10-03T03:15:06Z

Very atmospheric and frantic while also being simple and easy to understand. Music rocks, and visuals are fun. Very nice work!

Packed to the Gills by npckc 2023-10-03T20:16:47Z

Super graphics, neat mechanics. Kind of a fast-paced one-move piscine tetris, if that's a thing. Great music too.

Feng Shui Struggles by Nozomu57 2023-10-03T02:57:53Z

Great concept, great execution, very funny (especially the last level). I very much enjoyed this. Mouse controls aren't always completely intuitive, but they got the job done - you could always get where you wanted somehow. Nice work!

Get The Pumpkin! by yndajas 2023-10-06T16:58:03Z

Cute game with fun audio. I got it in 99 seconds after maybe 8 deaths, which is OK for a 54-year-old. I loved the (easter egg?) additional voice content if you leave it running after winning.

Limitless Space by Panda king 976 2023-10-06T06:40:27Z

Really neat art and an original concept. I hope you're able to develop it more later.

Claustrorush by Neon Kuroasa 2023-10-07T20:10:41Z

Fun well-coded game! What a cool idea, to make the level design require you to lose a little - adds stress and fun, although it sometimes means you just have to wait until you can use the closing walls. Neat graphic design and music - very cool.

Killstreak by wiru 2023-10-03T05:32:25Z

Engaging graphics and speedy gameplay. I found it very hard to progress with the controls how they were - very easy to die even from the second jump. Took me a while to realize the shots were auto-aimed. Very nice looking and complete, with a cool soundtrack.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Daunting Dungeon by Jiri_One 2018-05-05T05:16:43Z

Interesting puzzle, although success is mostly random based on where the guys show up, and how far your red goal is from you when it shows up. Music track is nice. I agree with others that the controls are a little cumbersome. Nice work, though!

Goal and Crossbones by SkullPixel 2018-04-28T20:17:19Z

Fun game - cute, and well-designed. Not a ton of challenge, but neat, and a great look. Music was nice, sound effects appropriate. Very cool.

Puzz Snake by Igor KinGamer 2018-05-01T06:36:16Z

Cool modification of classic puzzle. A couple of them were hard to figure out. Nice gradual teaching of mechanics in the early levels. Good work!

PinCraft by zenmumbler 2018-04-29T17:48:10Z

Good look, fun play, and clear and understandable physics, which is tricky with a roll-your-own pinball game. I think the crafting idea would have been really cool. I played seven balls, and three of them got lost on launch - one auto-died, the others just vanished and I had to suicide them. So, something weird going on there. Nice job, and a fun game.

Number One Take Out by Kappa.B 2018-04-28T05:57:38Z

Couldn't play on Windows - it complained of a missing DLL, and then when I added the missing piece (Unity player) it just crashed with an error code.

Number One Take Out by Kappa.B 2018-04-28T18:44:40Z

Lots of fun. My favorite part is the watercolor. It didn't feel like the enemies were exactly fair - sometimes the spawning vs. the map geometry meant that you had zero chance to avoid damage. Sounds would have been cool. the upgrade system was neat - I just wish I had more money to spend. Very nice job.

Bullet Break by JCMonkey 2018-04-29T17:56:22Z

Cool game, and good implementation. Everything worked well. A couple suggestions: It was a little frustrating having to lose so many balls. There wasn't much to be done other than fly back and forth until you were down to about 15, when you began to be able to respond to individual balls. Also, if collisions had behaved in a more physics-appropriate way rather than always bouncing off with random velocity, the game would have been more predictable, and it would have felt more in the player's control. Also, having something to hit with all the balls would be really cool, especially if you had some control where balls went based on where your paddle was. Arkanoid did this first, I think, where you could aim your ball based on where on the paddle it hit. Anyway, good work, cool visual theme and colors, and a fun game.

A Tale of Two Kings by Ango 2018-04-30T03:03:14Z

Really cool style and graphics. I am Trudy the king, but it took forever - I got ahead and dragoned him a couple of times, but that putz Lear got four wins in a row two different times and pulled back into the running. I love the artwork. Weird that there were no ties, but I understand why you didn't do that. Felt like the machine was cheating a little by peeking at my pick, even if it got no benefit.

Putt-Putt BOOM! by LandoSystems 2018-04-24T05:52:36Z

Very fun - lots of good parts. There were some holes where it was tough to navigate (hole 8 in particular). I wasn't sure what some of the powerups did, either. But I enjoyed it a great deal - made sense, looked sharp, followed the theme, and fun sound effects and cool music. Nice work.

Mortal Keybat by dob 2018-04-24T04:06:06Z

Yes, I was going to make the dialogues skippable, but didn't quite get there. Sorry for the wait.

Mortal Keybat by dob 2018-05-04T06:21:29Z

@ViridianGames Yes, it was intentional (see hints above). I'm glad you enjoyed it - thanks for the useful and kind comments.

Mad Mesa by jcsirron 2018-05-02T05:22:40Z

Cool art, and fun to drive. The controls occasionally went weird on me and I got stuck at the top of the screen, but I think that might be because I hit w as well as the up arrow. It undid the jam-up after a few seconds. This would be more fun with more to do, but I still enjoyed it. Nice job.

The Sparrow Served Danger by incobalt 2018-04-27T05:20:22Z

I played the web version. I couldn't find ingredients anywhere, although I walked all over my map and clicked on every station. I was able to pick up a poached dish, which had a recipe, but I could never seem to find parts of the recipe or check off the items in it. I tried for a while, but I never really got anywhere. I really like the premise (spies plus cooking), and I think if the menu system for the stations was a little clearer it might have been fun. Nice music, cool ambiance for a compo 3D game.

Rhythm Command by mmason 2018-04-24T01:29:57Z

This was fun! I was a little frustrated that the missile clouds didn't always stop the comets, and I didn't always see how the song mattered with the rhythm, but I had a good time. Couldn't win on any level other than relaxed. Very nice work. Crisp graphics and controls.

Super Beat Fighter Turbo by hadesfury 2018-04-28T20:52:30Z

Really great look. I love the '80's jazzercise outfits. Gameplay was solid, although I wasn't always clear what timing earned me a move - it seemed like I could double-time attacks that weren't necessarily in sync with either the music or the indicator on the bottom. Maybe I was missing something about the rhythm. Very cool game, good music track and sound, and impressive execution for such a short time. Nice work.

Zumaster by infinitycore 2018-05-04T06:19:54Z

Really cool. I played this for far longer than I should have. I was disappointed that there was no winning - I managed to eliminate colors, but they'd just come back in my ship even after elimination, so there was no way to clear the board. The flying was really easy - you almost couldn't die from that unless you were really reckless. Sometimes if you were close to a blob of balls when you shot, your shot would not do collision detection right, and would end up inside the blob doubling up space with another ball rather than sticking to the side. The sound was great, and the music was good, although I can attest that it gets really repetitive after 45 minutes. The controls and physics made sense and were responsive. The idea was very cool, although it might have been neat to give you a little faster way to clear the board - e.g. if you break a single ball, or a two-ball bit off a big blob, maybe it explodes for bonus points rather than having to hunt it down to find it and hook four more to it. But all these are nitpicks - it's really very cool and creative, and I enjoyed myself immensely.

Foos Fight by jimmothysanchez 2018-04-28T04:57:18Z

This was fun! I liked the new features. I found it really hard to do anything effective, and hard to see where the ball was exactly relative to my guys. The camera sometimes went weird (looking at sky, or deep into the ground near me, rather than at the game) after scoring. Music and sound were fun, and controls were intuitive, if hard to use well. Nice work.

Chomp!Chomp!Chomp! by sreal 2018-05-02T04:45:10Z

Controls are cool; not that much to it, but still fun to play. Fast-paced. Not sure exactly how it fits the theme.

Space Ball Toucher by matsoj15 2018-04-27T05:25:26Z

Cool idea, and the implementation was solid. I wish there were sounds, and maybe some other powers like folks are saying above, and perhaps an AI to play against. Didn't like the admin-permission-required installer. The game didn't seem to match the theme much, but maybe I'm missing something. Nice work.

Super Balls Defense Base Craft by radmars 2018-04-29T17:34:23Z

Really cool concept, well executed. Would be good to have some kind of icon or word description of each tower - that was very confusing. Very well done, though - I had a good time experimenting with the construction and layouts and also playing pinball.

Similize the Savages by silkworm_sweatshop 2018-04-28T21:49:37Z

Very fun, and clever. A little too on-point historically, with guys with guns blowing away native people until they conformed. I loved the giant robot invasions - very neat. Good sound, music, graphics, and controls. Very nice work.

Dungeon Kart by Nikolaj 2018-04-28T05:55:04Z

Fun to drive around, but I didn't really know what the hell I was doing. I got a bunch of red cubes, and then a red squiggle. The minimap wasn't really clear - it had a red square that I guess was me, but it didn't track with the revealed white squares. I could drive through some of the wood walls, but not others. The headlight effect was cool - very neat how the illumination worked. The music was pretty repetitive. Smooth controls and fun driving. Nice work.

Retro Cards! by boblova 2018-04-24T22:42:02Z

This was a neat idea. Some of the game implementations were a little rough - e.g. after I won a level, the space invaders one got caught in a loop where it kept restarting, with no choice other than to get hit a bunch of times to break out of the loop, and when I won breakout, I had to die a couple of times on a blank screen in order to get the second player a chance to go. Might be better with a computer player, or some kind of strategic goal other than just winning the games. Lots of work implementing the minigames, though, and an interesting concept of battles at classic games.

Fire and Stone by mango-malarkey 2018-05-03T05:40:11Z

Really fun to play. I couldn't get through a big door to the far northeast - not sure what I had to do to open it. I did get all three spells and killed everything I could find. Really fun, and visually very impressive. Nice work.

Run from the hangman (Renegade) by jshaffer94247 2018-04-27T05:27:14Z

Site seems to be down - I couldn't get there on two different browsers.

Problematic Powers by victorcrafty 2018-04-27T17:31:55Z

I like the idea of a counter for enemies remaining. It would have been cool to have a better indication of when I was damaged, and which bar was which. It seemed like the ice did less damage - people died instantly to fire, but with ice they'd survive. I wasn't quite sure of the mechanics. Anyway, nice job.

Black Horizon by Kristian David 2018-04-25T06:11:35Z

Interesting game, with cool 3D visuals, fog, and lighting. I found the car very hard to control - it was too slippy to feel realistic. I also got lost pretty regularly - some better indication of the route you were supposed to follow would help. Good work, though - I enjoyed my trip.

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-25T19:37:05Z

Cool idea, and good execution. I had trouble with perspective sometimes - it was hard to tell where the balls were with no shadows and with the size looking the same regardless of distance. The physics was OK - a little hard to figure out, but your hint helped. Visually very cool. Sound was limited. The camera was weird - I seemed to gain and lose distance from the center without doing anything. I could reset, but it was hard to intuit. Cool game, though - I had fun with it.

Crazy Cube by YANIV 2018-04-28T21:37:04Z

Very clever idea, executed well. I think I'd prefer if the shots weren't limited by distance, either mine or the enemy's. Sounds would be cool too. But great concept, great execution, great art, very neat project.

Lunar Lander Lunacy by JoshyOshKenoshi 2018-05-01T05:25:00Z

Neat idea. Very hard to coordinate the thrust. In my second game, I started to go back up, and then I waited to answer a question, but I took too long, so my velocity increased too much to survive. Some of those questions were really hard. Nice work.

Raceman by Jose Pedro Dias 2018-05-02T05:10:37Z

Cool mashup of racing and pacman - nice to see the classics united. Not a ton to this game, but still fun to drive around. I ate a power pill but could still crash into enemy cars - not what I expected. I found myself wanting to be able to make sharper turns, too. Great art, although the changes in camera zoom got confusing. Nice job!

LD #41 Entry - RED V S BLUE by ViridianGames 2018-05-04T06:37:52Z

I had fun trying to optimize production - took me a second to realize the little boxes were upgrades. I was expecting a big fight, but then I got a . . . dating simulator? I was not convincing in dating the other guy, but I won the war afterward (very quickly), so I guess all that clicking paid off. Played again after, with no dating sim, and won again. Cool visuals, interesting clicker-type game behind the scenes, and neat music and sounds. Nice work!

Goal Defense by Mau 2018-04-30T06:32:15Z

Great graphics, but very, very hard playing in a browser. I think it needed to be much more responsive, and maybe a tad slower to start with. But, fun, and good looking, and well-constructed.

Eggstinction by kukiri 2018-05-02T21:21:59Z

Really great effort, visual style, interface, interpretation of theme, and implementation. Music, art, everything comes together very well. The controls are a little hard to get used to, and there didn't seem to be an easy way to see the whole map, or more of the map - maybe a pre-hole preview would help? I was stuck taking random shots sometimes without knowing what would be smart. But just a really impressive effort. Very nice job.

Battle of the (Mostly) Brains by widdershinscrustacean 2018-04-27T17:39:59Z

Funny romp through a silly show. I had fun. I felt a little frustrated by the free typing part, because there were many things to type that would be correct. Also, with the blood liters - I wasn't sure how precise you were looking for. But fun, and I enjoyed myself. Small note - pre-composed music (especially if not by you) is not allowed under the rules for Compo.

Learn Runner by gustavo.christino 2018-05-04T05:17:38Z

Graphics were cute, and parallax scrolling was neat. The game was nearly impossible to win, since the jumps were so high, and it only took 3-4 hits of bad stuff to "loose." It wasn't obvious what foods helped and what hurt. I heard words going on, but I didn't know what they were saying, except that they sounded like Spanish for some of the items there. Good effort, though.

Mysterious Floating Gems by roflmoqkz 2018-04-23T20:53:10Z

Fun and interesting combination of these two. I found it pretty hard to control, and I wish it had built to high difficultly more slowly. I got to a boss on the side once, and that was scary. Although I kept shooting him, it didn't seem to accomplish much. I use a bomb or two but wasn't sure exactly how I earned them or what they were for. But slick, fast, and fun. Simple graphics don't detract, but the simple sounds grated a little after a while. It's a little annoying to have to hit enemies multiple times without any indication of their being damaged.

Pinplat by svyatozar 2018-04-29T17:18:07Z

Really cool idea and in line with the theme, with a clear design, good art, and a funky background track. I played the web version, and my main criticism is that it was just a little too hard - you got sent back to the start a lot, and then you had to do a complex set of actions to start over, which failed most of the time, so there was a feeling of ennui that set in. But maybe I just sucked. Anyway, well done, and very creative.

Jump Card by Rei-Kun 2018-05-05T05:24:09Z

Interesting idea. Once I got to the areas where you could fall, it seemed like you were at the mercy of the cards. Also true to a lesser extent with the beetles, but they couldn't kill you outright. Fun concept, though, and might be really cool with a little more development.

GlobuloBall by Bonelazy 2018-04-25T18:55:46Z

I love the art and interface design here - so cool, and very nice 3D model animation. I wish I had somebody to play it with. I played around and tried out all the moves, but hard to give it a full test with only two hands. Beautiful game, though, and great sounds and crisp design.

Cardbound by Silvae 2018-04-27T03:18:21Z

Really interesting take on the theme (very appropriate, I think). A very cool game mechanic. I found it very hard to plan, given that I couldn't see the full screen other than during the draw phase. But I liked what you did with it. Very creative.

Crystal Turrets by GhostRunners25 2018-05-01T06:20:54Z

Visuals and game flow are interesting. Game is way too easy as is, but I read the above, so I understand why. Obviously, it would take some more complexity and challenge to make it a full game. Not sure what the multi-level part adds now - maybe different weapons or flying zombies could make use of it. Anyway, a nice start.

GUNSLNGR5000 by webthingee 2018-04-24T01:49:06Z

I started my first game and couldn't figure out what I was doing. Then I walked off the left side and fell into oblivion. Hard restart via reload. Second game. I could walk across the screen a bit, but then I'd hit an invisible wall. Slowly, my cards disappeared. Eventually I was informed that I had died. Restart. Same deal. I tried using my cards, and the invisible barrier moved to the right, but I was still stuck, and I still saw my cards gradually go away. I think I blew up a robot, but he only rarely came on the screen. Very cool concept, and great visual theme, but I don't think it's working quite right, and the controls are a little non-obvious.

Deep Space by SG Alin 2018-04-23T20:42:31Z

Visually really cool, with a neat background, very nice ship models, and cool 3D graphics and lighting. Music and sound also very nice. Has no apparent connection to the theme at all. I played about six times, with 1350 being my best score.

Puzzle Golf by Jiri Hysek 2018-05-01T06:46:01Z

Froze in Chrome and MS Edge, worked in Firefox. I ended up with +16 on my first run - not too great, but I was figuring it out. Will have to try again. Nice work; clear puzzles with a cool non-verbal interface that made sense. Cool graphics and nice lighting effects, which gave it a neat and slick animation. Nice work.

Miss Priss by jfraser314 2018-04-25T19:29:46Z

The game froze after loading for me, so I couldn't review it. However, it is against the rules to have a team make a compo game. Compo is mandatory solo. You need to be in the Jam, not the Compo.

Five Iron Frenzy by Brandon Anderson 2018-05-05T03:18:34Z

Good pixel art, and fun to play. Fights were a little too hard, with too loose controls, to be really fun, and I would have liked a better sense of where the hole was I was shooting for, but those are minor criticisms for a game that's well put together. Also, in the era of Eric Garner and Tamir Rice, it would be nice if the guys attacking you weren't darker people, but instead some other color palette choice.

Tipio's Grand Typery by NedStormFish 2018-04-28T06:05:15Z

Cool game, well executed. Very hard. I really didn't like the poison letters - I could handle everything else. I got better at them as it went on, but still very tricky. Music was cool, and dialogue was funny. Nice work.

BouncePUNCH by wsKilljoy 2018-04-24T02:39:41Z

Terrific music - very nice job with this. The game was fun. I think it would have been more fun had I another person to play with, but I got the hang of jumping around and bonking folks. I think having the option for bouncy walls rather than transparent might be a cool addition. Graphics were simple but stylish, gameplay solid, although I think you might be retaining a keypress variable, because some levels I started out with my movement toggled on, and died instantly. Very good work overall. Nice job.

Typographythm by Radnyx 2018-04-29T12:55:17Z

Very cool game! Lots of variety, well explained, intuitive interface, and tons of bad hand jokes. Art and music were neat - gave it a consistent and clear sense of style. Nice work!

Lucky Fight! by riktothepast 2018-05-02T20:39:22Z

Cool idea, and well executed. Not much to it other than luck - it would be nice to have some choice or player impact. But a fun approach to the theme. One note on rules - you are not allowed to use music composed by others in a Compo game. This should be Jam with that music. I'd recommend you change it in the posting.

Putt Putt Boom by AndrewW 2018-04-29T21:13:01Z

I had a lot of fun with this, although I was confused at the start. I thought I was destroying balls rather than just harassing golfers. Once I figured it out, it was more fun. I got to level 10 and was handily perplexing tons of golfers at once. It would have been a little better to be able to see the costs of upgrades, so you knew how much you were spending, and to change the ball color or icon to indicate how many strokes it's on - I think that would make it more fun to watch. Very neat. Good work.

Match H3ll by Naruvan 2018-05-03T03:21:46Z

This is a neat idea! Very cool mechanic. Took me a while to figure out how it worked, but then I was pretty happy trying to knock out the turrets. Nice work.

Robo-Trix 2041 by voxatrophia 2018-04-30T06:27:34Z

Cool idea, well-executed. It got really easy one time when I had a lone red plus floating slowly around - probably could have played that as tetris indefinitely. And then it got really hard a few levels in. Nice job, creative idea.

Lazernauts by SevenSidedVoxel 2018-05-03T04:23:07Z

Tried it single player (I didn't have a controller or any friends). Nimble, logical interface, with cool art, music and sounds. The level variety is a nice touch, and I like the names.

Realm Guard by Torak Whiteleopard 2018-04-28T20:47:40Z

Fun game! Quit button didn't work in the HTML 5 version. Surprisingly deep, and fun to play. Cool music, appropriate sounds, lots of neat complexity. I wish the critters would show damage/hp, so you could tell what was going on with them as they ran through the course. Very nice work.

Torn by drnoir 2018-04-26T18:37:31Z

I played several times and ran into repeated crashes after audio played for a while (64 bit version). I was able to interact with a couple of the daters. Some were very hard to understand with the audio distortion. It was an interesting, weird concept, though, and the 3-D environment was creepy and added to the mood.

Hit the Green! by Azathothep 2018-04-26T19:47:24Z

Very cool concept. A little hard to figure out how to use the different weapons, and they didn't always have predicted results. At one point my ball fell through the ground multiple times until I managed to shoot it while it was at the surface. I loved the art and music, and it was a really creative idea, well executed.

Blitzingo by spthiel 2018-05-01T05:33:52Z

Cool idea. Easy was very easy, and medium was redonkulously hard, even when I set up a really easy board numbered 1-25 and shrank the window so the squares would come in closer to the board. A more moderate difficulty would be more fun. Just couldn't keep up. Nice work.

Pretty Crowded Dungeon by sprvrn 2018-05-01T06:13:29Z

I enjoyed the game, although I agree with others that the difficulty and ability to score points totally depended on the random draw. I feel like if there were some design to the levels, or if the tiles did something specific, it might be more complex and cool. I also got the line 245 runtime error, twice in three tries.

Fishing Asteroids by Arbosis 2018-05-02T20:33:16Z

Art and concept are amazing. I had a little trouble with the controls (using WebGL version) and in figuring out what I was supposed to do. But it looks glorious, and such a cool take on the theme.

Nmbr Krncher by gamebuilder 2018-04-25T06:01:35Z

Interesting idea. The first level you can beat just by touching nothing. 2nd is harder. Zeroes are unexpectedly difficult to deal with. Controls were a little hard - moves were too big sometimes compared to keypress. But nice work - good creativity.

Hella Cropper by lawnjovi 2018-04-24T02:49:19Z

What an elaborate, fun idea. I had some issues with the controls, but I eventually figured it out. I had one point where a pterodactyl got stuck on my strawberry for a long time, and then it somehow warped onto me. I had a hard time making any money - I think it might be nice to have some free seeds that grew very cheap food, so you could at least recover if you're out of seeds. I explored the cave enough to find a big boss, but he killed me nearly instantly. So much territory here, and lots of options and parts. Lots of work went into this for sure. I liked the music.

Dual-Threat Quarterback by Jack Hipson 2018-04-25T05:54:20Z

Complete, interesting, and relatively unique. That said, also frustrating. The red guys were very fast. Also, the controls weren't always responsive - if I switched direction too fast, I would turn around and stop despite holding the key down, which was insta-death. The second level with no planning time is really annoying. I was reliably able to score in the 3rd quarter, but the others were always hit or miss. I only got 14 points once, in about 15 plays. But cool game - just needs some tweaking to be playable.

Haunted Mansion by coldmoose 2018-04-27T17:47:22Z

Cool idea. The click positioning for adding blocks was a little off, as people have said. It would be cool if there could be, like, a flash of lightning every once in a while to reveal the ghosts. It would also be cool if it weren't just survival, but if you could collect treasure or reach a particular place or something like that. Calling your game link "Source code" on this page isn't clear. Also, to get the images to show up, put an exclamation point before the image links.

Geom by ddolgov 2018-04-26T02:52:55Z

Very crisp look, and an interesting concept. Took me a while to figure out what I was doing. There seemed to be many fewer attack items than I needed, and I wasn't sure what the gold was for. I enjoyed messing around with it, though.

Shoot bullets in my head while I play golf by FabianLC 2018-04-24T22:32:21Z

This was neat, but as others have said, very, very hard. Sometimes there was just no way to survive, which is frustrating. I finally got the idea that you could use the ball to kill some of the things shooting you, but that's difficult, and the windmills take multiple shots. I think maybe a softer ramp up into difficulty, and getting rid of the impossible scenarios, might make it cooler. But it was fun, and had good graphics and intuitive controls. Nice work.

Crane Command by Hyohane 2018-04-27T18:03:47Z

Really creative concept. I agree with others that a HP indicator on the guys would be helpful. I don't think your guys should autoattack their own team - it looked like that was happening when I moved one of my guys into another one. Fun idea, I had a good time.

Bumper Buddies by JavaSaurus 2018-04-29T18:11:18Z

Cool idea! The flipper physics was a little rough (that is a very hard thing to model - I've tried many times), but the game was playable and shots went where you expected them to. Having the board be a little more open might help - there were really only a couple of shots to make, and if you'd had moving targets, that would be fun. I tried to help my Pin-agotchi, but it wasn't always clear from the gauges what he needed, and hitting the top target to change what I was giving was a tough shot, so it was hard for me to execute what I wanted to. Good, complete project, with lots to like. Good work.

Rogue Ball by ctran13 2018-04-25T18:50:53Z

Interesting game. I like the look and feel. Dribbling was really hard - eventually I abandoned it and just explored without the ball to try to find the goal. I like that the levels are random (or at least different) after you score. The weird 2-D aspect of the players combined with 3D everything else was OK, although it made for some funny outcomes, like you could squeeze behind the ball in one direction, but not the other, and dribbling up and down was way easier than sideways. Sounds and music were cool - I liked the crowd noise. Nice work.

Cat Pack by Potondo 2018-04-24T02:34:10Z

Really funny idea. It took me a while to get going and understand it, but once I did it was fun. It was very difficult to be effective with the cats, though, and I was never really able to use the move capability well. Eventually, I wandered around in a world without cats, pursued by an immense army of foes, all of whom I could barely outrun. Not sure what the end state is there - eventually I gave up. Charming artwork, also. Nice job.

Space Faze by Pond Loach 2018-05-02T20:44:24Z

Cool idea. I got confused on the WebGL version because I had to hold the mouse down to play - lots of early deaths. I thought the graphics were neat, although the planet in the middle was confusing with all the moving parts that you didn't have to dodge seeming to overlap with the parts you did have to dodge. The math problem difficulty got pretty high pretty rapidly after some early easier rounds - my best score was 130. Nice work! I enjoyed playing it.

Pinhuman by sleazywizard 2018-04-24T05:37:56Z

Really funny to watch. The ragdoll physics was great. I liked that he gradually got bloodier. The helmet was a great touch. Rarely, the guy would pass through (over?) a flipper or bumper, but no big deal. I was hoping something more would happen (different level, multi-human, targets, etc.) as I played, but with a graphics-intensive project with complex collisions that's probably too much to ask for in such a short time. Very funny idea, and the sounds made it even better. I finished with 60 - not sure how good that was. Nice work.

Tilt Legends by mybadrybad 2018-04-29T20:12:48Z

Very cool, and completely in line with the theme. Until I realized you could boost the ball up from nearly anywhere, I got pretty frustrated. I got to a big pink boss guy, but I never seemed to be damaging him, and there was no indication that I was even interacting. I played until my up-finger got tired, and then gave up. I wish there were a better sense of what to do there, or whether I was making progress. Charming art, cool music, well-made, very very cool.

Typer World Cup by YuukiMakoto 2018-04-30T04:04:09Z

Cool game, with neat visuals, although I was staring so hard at the words that I didn't really get to enjoy them. Fun challenge, and an interesting format for the game segments. I wasn't sure if the three shot types were really any different - I scored every time, and tried each. I was always able to recover the ball and score easily, so maybe a harder mode would be a cool option. Nice work.

Block Destroyer by ShinyTurtle 2018-05-02T04:19:41Z

Good first try. There's not much to this - no risk, and rewards are pretty random based on how the blocks happen to fall. I'd add some patterns or extra powers or enemies to make it more of a game. But it's pretty, and it works, and there is some complex coding behind the color sets. Nice job.

Horror Minigolf by Goldentiger 1 2018-05-02T20:48:32Z

Nice idea, but as others have said, the putts were too weak to make it fun, and it sorely needed a restart. Cool graphics, music, and concept, though - a very creative take on the theme. Cool audio and music, and fun 3D models. Nice work.

Soccer Slasher by Supernapie 2018-04-28T20:58:00Z

Fun simple game. I agree with wchaney that the AI was a little tricky, which was fun - you had to pay attention rather than rely on them just to move in a predictable way. Good sounds and violence. Nice work!

Monstrously Hunky by CraigFortune 2018-04-28T20:22:21Z

Good graphics. Silly, but very funny in spots. I like the background music too, and the different characters. Lots of variety in the questions. Nice work!

Not a turtle race! (Multiplayer) by pixelrogueart 2018-05-08T18:08:18Z

Very cute art - I loved the turtles and the otherworldly background with moving clouds. Not much to the game. I think slightly faster turtles or a shorter course would make it more fun to play. I did not hear any sound - I'm not sure where the music came in.

Töhöbrin by SweaterWeather 2018-04-29T17:43:34Z

I really liked the concept here, although I agree it was hard. I played about 10 times before I could beat the purple eye guy, and it was cool to see the next boss. I wonder how many there are. I loved the art and animation on the bosses - very cool. It was a little frustrating that I couldn't fire both sides at once, and especially that there was a lag when I switched sides. Nice work, and a fun game.
