Looks neat. I like the idea of playing as fire. However, I am not sure how to start the game? Double-clicking the Jar gives me no response.

Hey c1fr1, nice game this time
The fire shader is definitely the main visual attraction, carries the game by itself. I like that the game is difficult enough that you have to try and fail a few times before you really get it.
It certainly produces *unique* gameplay, but that just adds to the charm
I need more instructions on how to run this - is there a framework or interpreter I need to download?
@the-lame-brain sorry it didn't work for you, what version of java do you have? I am aware that there is an issue with running it using the Java 8 runtime (working on fixing it), but java 10+ seems to work for me and my friends who have tried it.
if you are using a recent version, could you run it in the command line to see if gives a more specific error?
in case you aren't familiar with running java from the command line, `java --version` will give you the version of java you are using, and `java -jar Fuse.LD49.jar` will run it.
@dob yes, you need to have an install of a somewhat recent install of Java. If you have that, all you (should) need to do is double click it, or run it from the command line using `java -jar Fuse.LD49.jar`. Ill add this to the description.
as mentioned in a previous comment, java 10 or higher is required at the moment.
Cool game! The premise is really fun and I like the effects of the level burning up. Reminds me of a bullet hell game at times... challenging!
Wow that was cool. The sound effects and visuals make it feel like everything is on fire. The concept is awesome, but the game has one major flaw: level design!
Since the entire building is made of wood and everything is on fire, there's nothing to stop you from progressing except those lined up fire extinguishers, especially since standing on wood heals you so quickly. I think you could have added steel beams that don't melt, or wood that burns more slowly to give the player a whole other dimension of gameplay.
You could experiment and come up with more gameplay elements like targets that you have to burn in order to progress, or lower the structural integrity of the building or something.
Sweet shader! Controlling fire is a fun concept I'd like to see more of. I feel like the player blended in to the background fire a bit too much though. Changing the color just a bit, like increasing the intensity of the player fire toward white hot could help.
I am running Ubuntu 20.04

Every time I tried to hit the "Play" or "Tutorial" buttons on the main menu, the game would freeze for several seconds, then nothing would happen but this error would show up in the command prompt.

Edit: I have Java 8 and JDK 14.0.2
First jam game I've seen using Kotlin, and the library looks like you've cranked your own integration with lwjgl, good job! The game is good fun - tricky at first but the Tutorial helped too. The shader is great but did find it hard to see the player sometimes.
@ghoulean Yea that windows jar doesn't include linux natives so it won't work on Ubuntu. I compiled a few linux jars though, hopefully those will work for you. I tested the x64 one on my old arch install and it worked, but I don't have access to an arm or Ubuntu system to test the others.
@tubadude99 Thanks for bringing it up, I fixed a potential issue, let me know if the issue persists.
I got the game running, thank you. I played the game and the idea is really cool, a lot of footsies with burning tiles and flying bullets.
The second line of hydrants seemed invincible and I didn't realize that you had to defeat the previous enemies in order to pass them. But I also didn't realize that you could defeat the enemies because it appeared like the water particles were created out of thin air. Perhaps some visibility QoL tweaks would improve the game, like a different sprite when the fire hydrants are invincible, or larger enemy sprites.
The game seemed a bit confusing at first, but when I got a grip on it it turned quite fun. I liked the fire effects.
Interesting concept -- playing as a fire. The gameplay is fun, I got around 4000 score. I think it would be quite nice to add a outline to the enemies as they were a bit hard to see against the background. Nice job!
Worked fine on Linux Mint - 64bit. Nice little game, well executed. My only issue was that I tended to lose track of where my character was due to the visual similarities between it and the burning ground, but that just might be a problem with me.
windows compo release link doesn't work - github reports "The request signature we calculated does not match the signature you provided. Check your key and signing method."
@shigor that is strange... I just tried it and it seems to work just fine for me still, and that error sounds like a https encryption error. Try it again I guess? Or maybe [this](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/847077760324599828/899761571302080562/Fuse.LD49.jar) will work?
@c1fr1 weird - just tried again and now it's downloading. Guess some hiccup on the github side.
finally, I can play as fire!
Interesting entry! The fire effect looks quite good, but it is exceptionally difficult. Dashing in the direction of the mouse rather than the direction I was moving felt a bit strange. The enemies that constantly spit water drops in circular patterns were pretty hard to see against the wood texture and some of them were just invisible? And having to kill every enemy below the hydrants proved near impossible as the floor burns away so fast and there are more enemies to dodge up ahead already. I think this could be quite fun with some difficulty tuning, but that's LD for you! Good job!
Cool game! I really like the burning shader for the wood, that's a cool effect! The tutorial was helpful, but it was a bit hard to focus on the text at times. The gameplay was solid. Good work overall!
I really like your art and idea! However I had some errors in start scene with menu. The scenes did not change when the button was pressed and I couldn't play your game( What a pity!
@coolestdoggie It is likely that I am lazily handling an exception thrown while generating resources. I realize its too late for rating, but I would be happy to try and troubleshoot if you are still interested in playing.
Some information that would be useful: operating system if on linux what DE graphics card stack trace, you can get this by launching the game from the command line, then looking at that window after pressing a button. (is it the same as what tubadude99 posted a while back?)
