Interesting idea, took me some time to pusth the damn button :)

Interesting idea, took me some time to pusth the damn button :)
Very interesting idea, one of the few games in LD which tried something genuinely new (never expected to play platformer with "command line" controls), but the difficulty is over the top :) (btw I'd never ever thought of "flap" myself, but I've seen it in the level :) So question of curious non-native english speaker... is really flap correct verb for the very small hop? :) I don't remember that I'd ever seen it used like this.
Excellent - among the dozens of generic platformers (although in your case platformer is just one third of the game :D) I've tried by now yours shine spectacularly... It's quite fun to play (not easy, but also not superhard as some others) and I didn't mind that much that I died here and there and had to restart (which is to say something...:) Art reminded me zx spectrum (color changing was excelent idea) and your sounds are good and fitting, especially considering you made them on your mouth :)
One of the best entries I've rated.
Not bad for few hours, but in the end it's just a simple dodging (in 3d, but with unity it's not that hard, with flying boulders and cacti and funny donkey/horse/something.) About the only thing I liked were the funny messages when you got hit, so you're going to be one of the few games I rated with some humor :)
Very good entry due to the excellent presentation (and funny "hints") - music is really great. After going through almost hundrer of entries I'm starting to be sick of platformers, but your's gave me hope :)
A bit too difficult for my taste, but it feels finished, polished and playable. Good music.
mac only? :( not going to rate
"Tron" feel is nice, but it was kinda boring (and later maybe too tough). BTW for some reason audio doesn't work for me (WinXP), so i listened to the menu tune manually (nice one :). And your level format is genius :D
The twelve hours extension was just for uploading, so not going to rate unless you put it as jam. Otherwise, not bad, nice idea for fighting, but it's really too short.
Very nice idea, congratz. Music's too repetetive and i could use some more challenges, but as a simple AND quite original concept game you've suceeded very well.
Very good, not very innovative, but polished, working and fun to play. Next time just add few sound effects :)
Interesting concept which fits the theme as well... But to work it as a game you'd have to make it bit more complicated or provide very good levels and probably use some more goals then escaping (like distracting guards continuously while one escaped convict goes to open doors for others etc..)
What really annoyed me was trying to move the character to pixel perfect collision so it would move through the next corridor, sometimes I had to spent several attempts to position him correctly. Otherwise, good atmosphere, but just ordinary maze game. Music was very good.
It's too boring, there's really is no gameplay to speak of.
Not bad idea, but after several attempts I feel like it's not much I can do due to the total randomness... I couldn't understand why turrets sometimes shoot, sometimes don't, sometimes disappear (did I get it right? do they really disappear after some time?)
Very good platformer (nice level design especially and bosses) and music is very good and fitting to the game. Congratz, one of the best.
A bit too tough, but the idea escaping on the rocket is nice (also nice title screen:D)
Brilliant :)
Very good idea, but then I got stuck again and only escape was possible via process explorer. Probably best take on "ragequit" i've seen several times already, although the actual game wasn't that good.
At first I thought it's just another generic platformer, but the mind reading (although not used enough imo), background informations, monologue etc together with nice clear art made this one of the winners :)
While game could of course use some more work (especially audio), it's excellent entry and one of few I really played till the end because I wanted to see what's awaiting me and enjoyed it a lot.
Is there anything else but randomly moving blue dots of enemy fleets and sometimes jumping of my green dot if i click close enough before click end turn?
Not sure why you uploaded / what you expect from comments otherwise. This doesn't count not even as a prototype.
It seems panda's definitely not right choice for an engine to use on ludum dare :) hundred megabytes of dlls almost scared me out of my sanity.
As for the game... there's not much of it, after I understood what I'm supposed to do it was just a matter of aiming a bit on the right and hit the thrusters. About the only thing I liked was music, simple, but it's enough. Better luck next time.
Very good gfx (just the intro text really blended into background and was hard to read) and excellent audio. This is definitely one of the better platformers entered into compo this, although I gave up after a while.
Very good idea, very original setting for RGL. It would need some finetuning (generator especially) and bug hunting (at least I consider burning walls completely surrounded by the water from hydrant a bug) for me to be completely satisfied, but i'm rating high anyway.
Excellent audio and good use for theme, quite innovative ideas, but gameplay-wise it was kinda boring - I often escaped right from the start, on the other hand sometimes I've spent a lot inside the fish before I managed to get out, usually with more luck then skill. With some changes in controls and gameplay so it would be more enganging it could be very nice game.
Crash on windows XP (32 bit) - access violation reading...
Very good and I'm not saying it just because I've used similar style of art and planned to use sounds like you :D
Heartbeating is brilliant :D
2.5D view is excellent, overall art and music feel is very very good. Problem is that I'm completely lost, I somehow managed to open door in the first level, but in the second... I just don't know what to do :) Some hint would be nice, I'd like to see what more is there. (Won't rate for now, will get back later)
Reverse pinball, now I've seen everything :) Too bad there are just few levels, definitely good idea for a game.
Wow... At first I was like... WTF ANOTHER STUPID PLATFORMER...
Then I died...
Then I played and played and played :)
Congratulation, excellent idea, excellent work. I'm starting to hate platformers, but I really loved yours.
Now for some criticism: edge climbing is more trouble then it's worth (but maybe I just need to play with it more).
I'm pretty sure that more then once I've run into a fully vertical wall and there was (seemingly) no way through it.
And it could really use some art for the blocks (but this is mostly nitpicking, you've concentrated on the game, even added quite good audio).
Extremely hard (and the dragbox if you don't click exactly on the joint is annoying), but it's one of the most innovative entries - too bad you hadn't time to polish it up :)
Can't download too...
After I went through a lot of trouble to get python and all dependencies running on windows I found it wasn't worth my time. This is one of the worst entries I've tried.
Geforce 8600GT on winxp, current drivers (open GL version 3.3 reported), crashes after startup.
Traced the exception:
error C3013: input/output layout qualifiers supported above GL version 140
I'm too lazy to mess with your sources to try to find a way to go over it, so I'll either wait or won't rate.
Lowend version "works" - no crash on start, but all I see is the image "press space to start" which then starts scrolling when I try to move, clicking makes sound effects, but that's about all. Anyway from the video and feature list it looks like a good coding performance in 48 hours, but not that much of a game. Reminds me heavily of Walker on Amiga (would love to see some worthy remake, btw, so hope you won't abandon this)
Funny idea, really annoying audio :) (and slow game over screen)
I gave it about 20 tries, including one complete walk around. Idea of running from your defender is not bad, actually could be used as a base concept for something more, but gameplay is mostly on vacations somewhere. you try to move away from the circle, you're dead before you can seriously move away. You try it in place you hope you might hide or something, won't help you, you die. (I've tried the "relatively easy way" two times before reading the spoiler, because it seemed as one place you could run away, didn't help me much).
At first I was like WTF? Then I realized I'm not controlling the car but that one guy who doesn't have a camera pixel and realized I play snake... Not bad idea, but I was really annoyed I can't let the paparazzis die in pain under the cars :)
Karel (programming language) strikes back with vengeance and really, really annoying music. Good job for 48 hours, my only disappointment (apart the music which forced me to mute the sound) were the levels. Too easy and quickly boring. If you make a postcompo version with some interesting and devious levels I'd love to play it
Game based on continous dying and trying to touch this or that and hoping it would do something isn't very intriguing. I gave up after few minutes (would gave up sooner, but I've read in comments what I'm supposed to do. In the end I managed to get up with the rock... and nothing happened
Allright, out of few dozens LD entries I've rated you've got the biggest overall score :) Mixing "final fantasy" characters style with SCUMM adventure, adding enough fun and coding it all in 48 hours, respect. There's only one thing I disliked and that's the speed of the dialogue, it's very annoying for me (as a speed reader) to be unable to skip to the next line.
But really excellent, one of the very few entries I've passed link to my friends. I even decided to forgive you for abusing the time extension which was supposed to be only as a safeguard for upload problems - you're not the only one, but you're first I rated even if you did it.
Unbalanced clone of tower defense, anything stopped to happen in wave 2.
Gameplay quite similar to atomic zombie smasher (or how was it called), took me some time to realize what to do (since instructions ingame told me to look online or somewhere else and tehre's nothing in the windows build). And windows build crashed on me several times
Good job, especially for 9 hours wonder :) Not sure if i'd call it a game but anyway, one of the more interesting entries I've encountered (I'm a sucker for emotions it seems :)
Not going to rate it because of the 12 hours supposed to be safeguard against problems with upload, not for finishing the game (especially as music is one of the biggest +) - you should change this to jam entry.
But although the gameplay is very simple platformer you managed to make something interesting and captivating - story and music made it one of the best entries I've yet seen. But I kinda don't see the theme in here much.
Another platformer which is just killed by the difficulty combined with clunky controls. Sometimes crazy jumping combined with strange collision with lava, which hits you even if you're sure it won't... In second level only way I found to get up was to have a collision with falling lava and jump from it ... Thank you for the cheat, but even with it just wasn't able to get over the vertical climbing in level three I think (I really wanted to see the whip).
Excellent music, nice graphics (and quite funny backstory / character)
a) don't use installer next time
b) intro screen with the text hanging too long, i was already getting ready to kill the process (this is really ridiculous)
c) gameplay is primitive variation on memory
d) you're generating positions randomly and you're not ensuring that they don't overlap, which might complicate the game / render it unplayable
Very nice visual style, sadly gameplay is lacking (but I liked that you hadn't forced player to restart from the beginning).
Mousewheel control is... is not very intuitive, don't you think? Concept is nice and quite innovative, but... even if i tried really hard to keep most of the systems running, I just never had any chance.
Damn, I just don't have reflexes for this, or i'm doing something wrong, because I just can't get over the part where I'm supposed to use hovering to fall down and don't hit the spikes directly under the platform. It really annoys me, because I'd love to play more (music got me hooked :)
Well, more luck next time, this is really too simple :)
I loved the art! (And I'm not saying just because I'm using same approach :) gameplay seemed smooth, to bad you hadn't time to do more levels.
I approve of the chat idea and the way it works (although need to wait on the #public channel until new channels open wasn't very clear). What I disapprove is:
a) speed of the chat... I've spent a long time staring blankly at the screen (yeah, I know, it was mostly about the speed people would write, but...)
b) possibility to be unable to finish the game without even noticing (while most dialogues are quite straightforward, in some of them I wasn't sure what to choose, probably because usually I wasn't sure what I could get out of the character) - after I ended up without destination I gave up because I didn't want to spend another several minutes watching the chat on public, instead I've checked the sources to see what I've missed. Considering you can fail in the game very soon (for example not getting ID which can happen VERY easily) you really should have invested few minutes to add simple check if the goal can't be done. It wouldn't be hard at all, especially the way you've coded your data. For example, increasing some kind of counter for goal fail in every "failed" conversation and then checking it against global number of possibilites should work.
Bottom line: nice and quite innovative compared to most entries.
Nice idea, although I've seen almost exactly same mechanic in 4 entries already. It's a bit more interesting in 3d, could be used for some "portal" style puzzle fps.
Teleporting idea puts this among better games in the compo. It got pretty hard quite fast, but I enjoyed it.
Oh the horror! :D Excellent entry, took me few times to learn to escape from ghosts (nad yeah, it might be a bit too hard)
The time limit reduces this to trial and error for the first (and maybe second and third) try and having to restart all the way is frustrating.
Art and audio style is crazy => well done! :D
Not bad for two hours.
I almost ended in level 8 after few attempts and it's good I played more, level with disappearing tiles made me to play few more, but lev 12 with two bats was the end for me... just couldn't find a way to dodge both flying mice at the same time.
Simple but effective and working design, same as Josh, pathfinding annoyed me a bit in some places, especially near holes.
Allright... took me some time before I realized what kind of escape you have on your mind....
Some parts are frustratingly difficult (jumping on the walls with plasma on every step, or guard who'll see you if you're not extremely careful) and thanks to sliding the controls weren't exactly good. But you've put a lot of checkpoint, which reduced the difficulty to manageable level and tried to spice the platformer a bit - so even for my ramblings I rate is as good.
And as gokuhd already said... please, next time no megaupload, especially for a tiny half meg file. (it would be probably best if you changed the download link somewhere else even now, a lot of people will be put off by forcing them to wait a minute, then wait a minute...
Cool, excellent sound... But what the hell should I do at the window? It seems there's bug because even if I take the pillow, I can't use it in anyway, place where it was is still active and if I jump, I splash...
Quite good platformer - it really could use at least some simple sounds
Windowed mode (even post compo version) doesn't work at all, screen doesn't get cleaned with frame so everything is being overdrawing.
Luckily I tried fullscreen...
Theme is very good and innovative (I've considered something similar, but I discarded it and I've not seen this idea of stoping the spread of poisonous gas being used by anybody else yet) and gameplay would probably work, but there are two problems - one is controls, I got stuck on third level in ducts for a long time, because sometimes I just couldn't draw the blocks.
The other is difficulty, I gave up on a level after ducts after few attempts and I think it's insane :) Maybe after a lot of attempts I'd be able to orient myself and maybe have a chance, but...
Very psychedelic :D
Few good ideas (really liked the idea of rusting the doors), it's really pity it can be finished under minute :(
The art really burned my eyes out :) Attempt to create interesting and bit innovative fight mechanic is a definite plus and as a certified (almost, but I escaped) madman I have to approve, because I could almost feel I'm roleplaying myself.
It has potential, but problem is it's not very engaging and next to impossible to win unless you know which enemy to fight. Running randomly and trying to fight enemies... Since there's no way to replenish magic that I've found you'll die after few fights whatever you do.
With reduced difficulty, or with some checkpoint it could be fun, but this way... missiles were killing both me and the game. I was kinda unclear on what I am supposed to do and why.
Graphics looked nice, but I really disliked the audio.
Repetetive, boring, often requires many attempts to find out where the boulder will fall. Hit collision around the boulder seems very big, it kills me even if I'm quite distant.
It's showing quite a promise, but since I wasn't able to force more people to play, I had to test it almost against myself so I can't exactly rate it properly - it seems that the game mechanics need some serious tuning (especially for the number of the players). Movement of the mage is extremely erratic (might be big ping on your server, didn't test it) and I think it's not going to be big fun for mages. Audio and gfx is good, almost excellent (didn't like the monsters very much) and it shows a big promise, so I'm rating you quite high despite my problems with gameplay.
Sigh, another platformer which is too hard for me to properly enjoy (even on easy... I must really suck, playing games for almost 30 years must have fried my brain :)... Tiny tiny tiny view without possibility to use fullscreen with dark blue over almost black just adds to confusion.
This is probably the most confusing game visually I've yet seen :) The way that level morphed with my view just confused the hell out of me. Works as a stealth game, idea of blocking visibility even for top view is something you don't see every day, but I just couldn't take it more then few minutes.
Excellent video and audio, quite funny game
Put some icons on the screen showing the keys and colors, it would help. It would also help to have something else to do just slowly faze down and pick some score points - there are several games with the exact same idea of color phasing (but you're still going to have points for innovation) and they're usually better executed.
Good attempt to put online rgl together in 48 hours (and it might be bit more enjoyable if there was somebody but me online), but slow movement, pretty much purely random fighting and boredom of walking in mostly completely empty halls... but it really plays like a basic prototype without much fun.
Too simple (both in terms of difficulty and gameplay), but it works.
Got stuck on the bush, same as stRana. Very nice art style, too bad that what there is can be done in about ten seconds (you could at least add "fireflies collected" message or something) and consists just from simple walking.
Works as a nice visual concept, not as a game.
Excellent. This is probably best I've yet tried (from almost 150 entries), first I spent a whole lot time clicking and staring blankly at the screen, second I've passed links to my friends :)
Well... after I understood the game mechanics, because the step "move out of the board" kinda escaped my notice :)
About the only weak part is audio (thank you for the mute key) and connection with the compo theme is kinda... forced. Monsters escaping from the prison directly to the hero's castle...
Congratulation for trying (and quite suceeding) something different. After I've hacked your sources and removed the incredibly annoying pause between lines I played for a while, then I took a bit better look on sources what is and is not possible.
What is hurting your game is the total randomness which can make or break experience. For example trading would be much more useful if convicts offered you something for something you already have. It would be nice to have some more interaction possibilites like choosing whether you want to go to gym, or look for convict to recruit / trade, or hunt for items.
Otherwise, good job.
In second part there was only one policeman who run from me, I just walked to the end, is it a bug or you made it like this?
Overall... I spent a lot more time waiting for megaupload to give me the file, installing it and then getting rid of it then "playing".
One choice? That doesn't do anything, just changes one sentence (I've checked the source)? That is all?
You were supposed to make a game you know, not write a shortstory with some quick illustrations.
It seems and looks nice, but what confused me was that I failed almost randomly, some kind of feedback if you're doing the right thing would be nice. I got to escape in the end after getting stuck in one one place for several tries (one of that "random" death in the room with two air currents) - it's too short, but if you made longer levels, add some sound, it would charming little game.
Stupid microsoft decision to localize stuff like floating point sign, separator in csv files and other idiotic stuff etc hit me few times too...
Randomness is killing it - unless you're lucky you just won't find the water (sound cue is a good idea). You'd have to change the generation of the level for it to be fun (now it really depends more on how lucky you are). I'd suggest generating water on the fly - if player is already thirsty, generate water nearby on not yet visited (inlcuding the detection radius) tile.
Otherwise quite good job.
Good idea, it's quite playable, but it's terribly inbalanced... i couldn't do anything from the start, but then suddenly i got to the level i could just spam hundreds of towers and that's it.
Nice as a concept, shows potential (but reminds me one indie game, can't rememeber name, which combined tower defense gameplay with space invaders...)
It's a nice idea (and I really liked the theme for the maze), but the biggest problem is gameplay. I don't mind rough visuals, but as it is the game is completely unchallenging and boring, it just requires a bit of patience and pressing escape. Totally random levels often creates situation when the exit is just to player and I think in one level I either spawned directly on the exit or on the doubt. That's a pity, because with some more work it could be good game, not just nice idea.
Took me some time to understand what I'm supposed to do and then it was a bit too easy. Very nice implementation, both audio and audio
It's about the first purely "mash escape key" game which I enjoyed :) Excellent music (I'm just sucker for the old SID style music...)
Sigh... why did you made the player to move so slowly when answering the riddles?
Overall... few simple riddles you have to answer by moving slowly to the right door, with some story and a bit better ending (where you could move a bit faster).
Gotta agree with Wally, this is one of the entries which makes me fear the next game I'll try.
Nice screaming and the idea that you first start fire and then play hero is interesting.
Hosting account suspended (both win and web links) so can't try it - anyway by using music not of your own you've broke the rules.
Finally played: confusing pixel hunting requiring pixel precise clicking even on menu items. Got stuck on level two for a long time before I managed to click somewhere and something happened, then finished the rest quite fast (often don't understanding what I am doing). Sometimes item would stay stuck to my cursor.
Wouldn't rate it very well even if you hadn't broke the rules by using music not of your own. Better luck next time.
Bugs are really killing it :( (guard running through the locked door in the second level, seemingly nonexisting AI). Good as a concept, would be nice (for use command line lovers anyway) to have it fleshed out with some more stuff and interesting levels.
It kinda reminded me old days playing shadowrun as a decker and keeping those stupid samurais alive :)
Although it's just a simple dodge and jump, thanks to the gfx and audio and especially great atmosphere this is one of the better entries out of 300 hundreds I've tried. Since it's jam entry, I don't think you've bent the rules that much.
Nice evil laugh, eimink :)
Smaller map and/or more content on it would made an excellent game. This way it's just rather good.
Interesting, yet bit confusing - it really is TOO small.
Due to the character gliding after jump it quickly changed to excersise in frustration. Either my reflexes just aren't what it used to be, or it is too hard. Hadn't finished since I really hadn't nerves to force myself to try for the hundreth time
Nice music and use of the theme, otherwise I wouldn't call this a game.
Took me longer to download then to finish :(
There's several game of this type in the LD21 that I've seen, but I'd guess yours is probably slightly better then the others in the terms of gameplay.
Nice idea, but it really is too slow
Crazy soundtrack is pushing this game up from other simple platformers. I would really like to play other levels (to hear the soundtrack, I hope there's more), but I just wasn't able to kill the bear, after his speed increases to max (I hope it's max!) I was never able to jump over him without getting killed. You did it too hard, at least for me.
Sigh... next time use dropbox or anything else please, just not something which forces me to wait, click, wait and wait... and then fill damned captcha. And then wait more and more and more for just 1 and half meg file... containing very simple and almost unplayable game using asssets from GameMaker...
At first I thought this is another stupid joke, especially considering your donate link, you're lucky I gave it another try and walked off the platform. Then it crashed in one of the shops.
Before rating I have one serious question and I think I know the answer beforehand - are the sprites and character images your own work or are they standard RPG maker stuff? Because if yes (and I think it is that way considering quality of obviously new stuff), you've broke the competition rules "all content must be created in 48 hours"
Good idea and presentation (apart from the music which is nice, but cuts strangely), but the execution (pun intended) is not very good. Either I've missed something, or it's just too hard to locate the prisoners... best strategy I found was mashing wasd and wildly moving mouse in hope I'd find some poor russian... sometimes I did, sometimes not...
Movement usually doesn't work (once I push left arrow I'm usually stuck with moving to left), random falling... I got somehow after several tries down to the girl (I think) and that's about it, because then the movement bug kicked in and I couldn't do anything. Music is not bad, art would be more then enough if it was playable, but considering you've had gamemaker and three days as this is jam entry....
It is too hard (postcompo version being slightly better) unless you really spend a lot of time learning it all over again with trial and error. Good idea, but to be it really funny you'd have to slow it down a bit and give player some warning (at least direction to the target would be nice). This way you have to try and try and try (took me about ten tries just to locate the exit in the second level)
Nice one :) Simple, but playful :)
Excellent visuals and good audio background, but as a game... it's just extremely simple jumping for a while and then watching outro (which I thought is another part of the game and tried to do something for a while)
Not bad at all (especially for your first game :D)
It seemed as a yet another simple platformer, but the light mechanics gave it that little needed extra twist. Not bad at all.
Very nice adventure game (but you really should have made the screen at least a bit bigger), congratulation :) Bit too short, but for the compo it's quite acceptable.
First impression was terrible, oh no, another blind maze... then I pressed escape... Very good and suprising idea, full points for innovation :)
Problem is that it's not much fun... rat race which is intentionaly annoying is still annoying, jumping is not very rewarding too.
But rating high for the idea alone :)
Any game which says something about radish and mothers must be good :) (at least I've got that idea from Dungeons of Dredmor). It's quite funny and enjoyable game, upgrading gives and possibility to choose party gives it that something little needed extra.... and the oneliners uttered by zombies.... This... is.... BADGER BADGER BADGER!
Very good, one of the few games so far which made me laugh and deserves stars in Humor category.
Any game which says something about radish and mothers must be good :) (at least I've got that idea from Dungeons of Dredmor). It's quite funny and enjoyable game (albeit quite simple and repetetive, but upgrading gives and possibility to choose party gives it that something little needed extra.... and the oneliners uttered by zombies.... This... is.... BADGER BADGER BADGER!
Very good, one of the few games so far which made me laugh and deserves stars in Humor category.
Nice idea, too bad you hadn't spent more time on it and less on getting drunk :)
Not that bad... got confused by the first screen, but otherwise it's quite good... (if you think you suck, go rate few entries and you'll feel much better :)
Excellent audio. Game's too simple for my taste, but it works pretty well.
Very nice idea, but a) even after several attempts and quite a long way to go I don't understand the mechanics (and in the end got best results from semirandom mashing of the keys :D) b) reseting back after while gets really frustrating :(
Bit work with controls and it would be really nice little game.
Some more challenging ideas for levels would be welcome (by challenging I mean something other than trying to outbuild / outdig those sumo wrestlers, otherwise nice "minecraft2d". Platformer + block building and destroying was used by few other games in compo, i'd guess your version is probably best, even unpolished like this.
I gave up in sixth level after about dozen or so attempts... it was just too hard for me. Otherwise it's quite functional, art code and sounds, but simple (and also probably second most used concept after typical platformer in competition :(
Nice idea, but quite boring implementation, suits often seen me around corner, gameplay quickly devolved to hiding in one cubicle and then hoping I'd move away if suit was coming, but since they move randomly and there's too much of them...
Points for theme and some for innovation, but overall just boring.
Good and innovative idea, nice as a proof of concept. Two bad there's only two levels and the gameplay is very slow.
Connection with the theme is pretty weak.
Solid platformer with very nice pixelart and good music. Overabusing double jump kinda annoyed me and I wish there was a bit more then just jumping and jumping.
But definitely one of the better ones.
Well... so I wasted several minutes demolishing room, hoping that something would happen, for one black screen... As a game it's almost nothing. It would be interesting as a techdemo (and since I know how much time it takes to build even simple physical engine I'd be amazed you've made it in three days), but Unity does it for you... If there was some artistic meaning, like even if you toil and work your ass, you'd just end in a black hole, I don't understand it and don't want to understand it.
Not bad for a first attempt... Otherwise not very good but I think you realize it by yourself. It would need at least few more levels. Enemies chasing you more quickly then on normal walk suprised me a bit (I underestimated you :)
Very good, polished, working, fun to play, you even managed to get the levels right (difficulty curve was about ideal I think). Only thing missing was some music in the background.
Ok, I almost why the hell you just made another generic breakout / arkanoid clone?... then I missed the ball... Good idea, points for innovation :)
I love the hundred megabyte text log game managed to create before it crashed. I was wondering why game hangs here and there and why my harddrive suddenly goes on overdrive. If there was something interesting in the log I wouldn't complain so much, but...
Millions of
"Getting bullet co-ords..
Getting enemy co-ords..
end"
doesn't make very interesting reading.
I've attempted yet another try but then it crashes before the game shows, after intro screen, so I gave up, especially since what I've seen from the game in about minute before the crash doesn't seem like there's anything more then I've already seen.
I wanted to say something nice about the music, but since it's taken from the IndieGames, it means you've broke the rules for compo (ALL content created by yourself).
Mirror download works, but I'm unable to do anything but madly running around doing nothing and only way to escape this madness was to kill it with task manager... I tried whatever I could, but... no avail. If I run behind the bus station, it returns me back, shooting to enemies just makes them laugh, can't jump anywhere else... To weird for me :)
Interesting take on slider puzzle. Too short and not very challenging, but definitely interesting and innovative. If I call on the phone number, will I really get the full version? :) (I'd like it I think)
Total randomness is completely killing it. Sometimes there's dozen of mushrooms in the line, sometimes dozen (well maybe less but anyway) monsters... With some polish, more reasonable choices (and MORE of them) it could be quite good. This way there's almost no reason to play (unless you're the type who just loves pure random chance)
Ominously creeping wall of darkness and short but fitting music loop gave it quite good atmosphere, art is nice and also fitting. There are just two things I've disliked. First - obvious shortness of the game. Second, the holes in the ground don't look much like holes, I kinda thought these are other walls and fell in... twice.
And THANK you for providing difficulty setting. I wouldn't need it probably, but one of the annoying things on testing and rating entries is often very hard to insane difficulty of the game (mine included, although I didn't do it on purpose :D)
Too bad it's that short and almost no interaction (hard to call it a game), but it definitely got me smile :)
Does it work at all? I think I understood your idea, but it didn't help me... random attempts to say something had no result either.
Oh the wait and wait and wait before I move somewhere or until the platform rides to me... :( it really kills the mood
While the idea (although it's just variation on snake) might be made to some interesting game with some levels, right now it fails to deliver. And the Virus loading... screen is... almost made me think that this is another of the "games" press escape to win.
Better luck next time.
Better luck next time. Not bad for your first game, pretty bad otherwise. Collision bugs and flying character... What I kinda liked was design of the levels seemingly forcing you to think before you drop down more, if it was intended, good idea, but would need more refinement.
You should probably say that you're using XNA 4, because it would crash for people without it (and people without visual studio debugger won't know why)
Not bad idea, but it doesn't work very well. Especially annoying were characters getting misaligned with the cells after direction switch.
Idea of character switching was nice, but I agree with both problematic orientation (although on third try I understood how it works) and with "walking on corpses of my previous characters" (c) hamster_mk_4. Too bad there's not more (I checked sources:), at least some background info of what happened would be nice. Presentation, both audio and gfx was nice. (Could use some nice ending images, at least for good one)
Strangely blinking menus, quite confusing controls, lack of any gameplay but diggining holes randomly (or I'm really missing something?
Controls (bad keyboard handling, waiting for key pressed message instead of checking if key is or is not pressed, I'd thought that Scratch should support this basic mechanic) are completely killing it. The loud game over sound almost made me to break my speakers with shock (was it intended? :)
Better luck next time, trolls (but you're doing good, sooner your little troll starts the better :)
Way too easy so I got bored pretty quickly by just walking and killing everything with few hits and constant Level Up messages. Otherwise nice, with some polish it could be quite nice game.
Runs of winxp. Never got through the third level with water (the one on the last screenshot) whatever I did even if I think I've done everything all right. Black screen on the start waiting for enter, troubles with quiting the application are just few of problems. Tutorial texts without possibility to skip them are annoying. Different shield mechanics might be nice addition, but that's about everything. Weak one, especially for a team entry, you'll have to do more next time :)
So... anyone dares to escape AND survive? :)
Sorry for the link, fixed (I really don't know how it got there, must be lingering aftereffects of the sleep deprivation)
yeah - bananas and water hole... I planned to remove it later and redraw those, because it IS inconsistent and I've done it only in an attempt to improve visibility, but I've planned a lot of things :)
I've already fixed the most stupid things for the postcompo version, color changing is one of the stuff which remains to be done.
Bit too simple for my taste
Well... it could have been good, but you've totally messed up your level design right from the start - just few seconds after the real game starts (btw it would be nice to allow skip the dialogue by clicking) you've forced me to jump blindly in the hole on the ground with two randomly moving enemies which will kill me on one hit. Without any chance to do something about it, either I'd die at once falling on one of those enemies, or I won't have time to jump away because they're too close. I managed after several attempts and with a lot of luck to get past it. Maybe ten seconds after, same blind leap of faith down on hope that this time the enemy won't be there... He was. Either there's some mechanic I was too stupid to see (at first I thought that the dotted lines seen on screenshot are chains to climb on, but I was unable to do so). On another try I've breezed back where I died, moved a bit more, then fell down thanks to character sliding maybe a bit too much and died on some spikes (or something) and had to start all over. After several similar attempts and few minutes of playing I just gave up - if there were some checkpoints the difficulty (apart the leaps of faith) wouldn't be so extremely hard, but this way it was just an exercise in frustration. Too bad really, because story line seemed interesting and possibly good :(
Audio was excellent, but I too encountered strange problems like Tellus, it seems some of your audio files used in intro are corrupted.
Interesting concept, but it lacks few things... motivation, challenge, some polish...
Too bad there's not more. It's too short even for LD entry.
Excellent atmosphere and presentation, but gameplay is rather dull... mostly wait and wait :) I've spent few minutes and few levels playing this, but it gets boring very quickly and atmo won't save it.
Art's perfect and level design seems to be done well, although I got frustrated too quickly on some places and hadn't finished... difficulty is a bit too high (but I might get back to it and try it again, it really seems as one of the few entries worth playing. 8 bit style audio is sorely missing :(
Thanks to the 3d perspective it can be extremely hard to guess where are you going to end. I've played few levels (good progression of the difficulty), but having to do a lot of attempts to find possible way and jumping in confusing 3d became too frustrating.
Good for your first attempt, maybe next time you'll do better.
BTW for some reason web version hangs my browser (Chrome), all other Unity based games I've tried worked without problems.
Excellent, one of the few games i've tried and tried and tried till I killed the octopuss instead of giving up after a while :) Nice megamanish music.
Good idea and presentation, but either tone down the difficulty or use checkpoints, otherwise it gets too frustrating very quickly.
Good game, although as was already said, too hard. Quick switching between sailors via numeric keys would help a lot. One of the better I've seen so far, congratulation.
Interesting concept, yet quite confusing from the start. Only after I started to type Father I noticed I can move (I tried cursor keys to no avail, so I was looking for some other way...)
I quickly found out that all you have to do is quickly press up and right arrow key simultaneously (got to hiscore of about 1500 this way, then game was too fast and princess ended as barbeque.
Is there a way to escape? :)
Not bad, although I don't have anyone to properly test the gameplay. And the theme connection is quite weak I think.
The idea of coward running from fight could be interesting, but I just couldn't stand more then few minutes of eyesearing black and white grid with totaly monotonous music with gameplay consisting mostly of hoping that I'll escape from the fight quickly enough without getting hit...
Thumbs up for nice retro style art, one of the better entries I've tried.
Is it possible to get to the exit? I tried several times and I always ended on one of two blocks, your wife said "surveilance detected" and gameover (followed by crash of java).
Either I'm missing something, or it's completely blind trial game, try all ways in the maze until you find some which won't kill you.
Normally I'd say "nah, just a clone of Ugh", but after playing several dozens of often very generic platformers I applaud :) Apart from more levels (but the number you have is IMO more then acceptable for the 48 hours) and some more audio I think it just needs a TINY tweaking in controls - flying monkey is probably drunk monkey dipped in some grease (although how the grease would work in the air is beyond me).
Very good entry.
Not bad, asteroids in the maze style game, but it quickly became too annoying - unless you really try to blaze through the maze you'll get killed by the closing doors. After few dozens of attempts I gave up.
Not that bad for your first game... and compared with some other entries I've tried it's at least playable :)
Collision detection :(
And it got really boring very fast.
Not very intuitive, more like very confusing. Wanted to commend you on music, but then I noticed it's generated from wolfram tones :)
I'd add "it's too slow" to your self criticism. But you've scored with "It's too dangerous... errr" line :)
Idea is hilarious :) too bad that gameplay is a bit lacking, at least few more levels or something which will stretch the game over dozen or two seconds usually required to get to the RocketToilet
Nice idea (reverse boulder dash), but it's too boring - it needs better levels, some sort of challenge
Too hard for me, if there was anything else for me to do but to battle inertia, I'd try it more, but...
You're supposed to use only assets you've created yourself... so the music kills you :)
Excellent 8-bitish art, nice setting, there's only one thing I find annoying... it's too short. I'd love to see the whole game :)
Sigh... If you're trying to annoy people with long wait on megaupload only to find one screenshot... you've succeeding.
You forgot to include AVBIN library (it can be easily googled and downloaded, but...)
Very nice audio which sets quite a good mood together with the art... but as you said yourself, is there a game? - Character walking slowly half a pixel at a time (if not less, i was sure i'm blocked somehow in collision, then i noticed he IS moving.... superslowly.
Idea of remembering walls is very nice, although mostly useless, but it could be used as one of the keystones for a specific gameplay. With some polish and some other features (currently it really is boring, I quit after third level) this could work quite well.
Sadly there's not much to like here... first level is simple "adventure" (knife in the sink in the prison cell, sigh...), combat scene in second level isn't combat at all... There are worse games entered in the Ludum Dare, but not much of them. Better luck next time.
Eating guards was fun :) Overall, nice little point and click adventure, even if very short. Dragon should move a bit faster, but otherwise good.
Uh, I think I would need to take some drugs to grok this game :) Calling it a game is a bit too much since the interaction element is quite limited, but it's interesting to play through, although totally confusing. Interesting experiment.
And I think I need to piss, it's good I'm near the roof.
Confusing, even after I've read the description, getting back from fail in second level back to first together with annoying and strangely working game over screen (sometimes it looped and showed I died game over all over) made me to abandon it. It could be interesting puzzle game but the execution is bad.
Reversed tetris :) nice :)
Why did you uploaded it at all? You say in your journal that your game is missing a game... you put up just your sources with comment that it can't compile...
I ragequit in the second level. Visually it's nice, I like and use fractals, name for the game is excellent, but the controls killed it for me, and I mean like totally. Although I understood how it's supposed to work (I think), I had incredibly hard times with controlling it whatever I've tried from small clicks to dragging the mouse - it wouldn't have been that hard if the camera wasn't switching so wildly, but I struggled just to get where I wanted, without being hunted.
Delete the supplied directx dll (I don't understand why you've put them to the game anyway?) - they're specifically for amd64 processors, so if you have intel, game won't run for you.
Not that you've missed much, although it seems it could work as a puzzle game, it's extremely short and easy.
Nice atmosphere for a while(thanks to the creepy breathing sound mostly), but in the end it's just a simple maze
Level generator is total killer, but even if it was working it wouldn't be very good game. About the only thing I kinda liked was music.
Next time please don't use installer (it's even written in the rules...), especially not working installer - 32 bit version doesn't contain sdl.dll. Not a big problem to download of course. But game doesn't work either (editor does) and reports wrong dll signature (tried with few versions of sdl I found on the net). And then uninstaller leaves it's beatifully named C / Documents and Settings / Administrator / Start menu folder in my start menu so I have to manually locate it and delete it...
Took me some time to understand the mechanic (switch activating after you leave it is really confusing) - at first I thought it's really just a blind maze based on trial and error
I felt like I was testing Petri's network :)
Nice idea (really nice twist, compared to all those platformers in the competition), and very fitting audio. As a game it would need something more challenging and some more levels.
Good idea, pretty good execution. One of the more original yet completely playable entries. With some more polish and levels it could be quite good game (in normal terms, not just ludum dare)
Doesn't work in Firefox either (it actually works in chrome for few seconds, Firefox doesn't do transformations at all).
Clunky controls (HOLD mouse for shooting?! WHY?!) and long intro sequence (which is funny once, for the second time is annoying and I had no nerves to try for the third time) is killing it. A little bigger view would also help. I found no way to restart other than reload page.
Nice art and music (so I won't be completely negative), but next time keep the intro for the last (and make it skippable, or at least give us possibility to restart without forcing us to watch it) and concentrate more on the game.
Ok, there was one place where there I had to do something resembling game... otherwise it might have just been animation...
And after checking what is PSTW Action RPG...
This shows some promise, too bad you hadn't time to finish it at least a bit more.
Simple maze (with super black car I hadn't seen at first) requiring trial and error approach. Boring, no sense of challenge, no reason to play.
Thumbs up for music and for the riddles, thumbs down for forgeting to mention how to play it (thx spoonweaver)
I'd check sources if there's any hidden depth in this, but since you hadn't provided them (as you should per competition rules)... thanks to wally2069 for saving my time
Bonus for humor (some lines almost made me chuckle), but otherwise... the length, quite total randomness of the responses... I noticed you wrote that you've learned the C on the day of the competition, but even then you could give it a bit more - judging by the source size I'd guess you spent about hour (two at max) making it including the "learn C" part
It's not a game but rather exercise in patience and frustration due to the long wait after the spike hits you. Let's say the artistic idea is there, but as a game it fails.
I, uh... kinda don't understand what's going on... I can wildly run around, usually end up somewhere of the platform and nothing happens. I can shoot some things, which I noticed die after while, sometimes it seems I'm getting shot at... I really tried, it was better after I turned of the audio before my ears started to bleed, but I just couldn't understand what am I supposed to do?
You know, at least SOME attempt to do your own game, not just do almost complete clone of one of the most iconic (and simplest) game ever would be really welcome....
Good one (I considered doing similar game for my entry :), but there are two big problems with the gameplay:
a) hiding behind bigger obstacles means I have no idea where my character is, which way he's facing etc - which together with controls mean unnecessary problems
b) although "sneaking" game has by definition slow pace, sometimes it gets incredibly annoying and boring - sometimes waiting for guard to move so I can run past him takes very long time - first room with guard I've spent about two minutes just trying to wait him out after attempts to draw him out or run past him failed. Then on another attempt he moved so nicely I just walked around and it was it...
Thumbs up for the iso graphics :)
Nice presentation, but i was usually quite confused what I am supposed to do :) First minigame ended for me in few seconds before I could do anything, cop just got me before I could ran away.
Nice art and idea (I was considering escape from zoo too for a few moments too before discarding it for not knowing how to do it interesting), but it really is too unfinished (and buggy - in one attempt generated level meant that my hippo could just stand on the place and be attacked almost every turn, as he couldn't walk through the trees and he could only return to the park. Also losing turn for trying to walk wrong way doesn't seem much fair.
Water is rising too high and the most effective strategy is just to ride the water and dig over your head, sometimes digging to other cave and collecting tea. Idea is not bad, but it would require some polishing and probably some other small features to be enjoyable.
Ah, the speccy style art! (Bonus for your logo). This really is probably the most strangest variation on jRPG I've ever seen, too bad I couln't try the "Rip entire gut" skill I got in the last fight. The only connection with the theme "Escape" I noticed was Escape item in the combat menu...
There's only one thing I really disapprove (except the installer)
Excellent entry, functional, interesting gameplay (so much like old metal gear :) polished, no bugs I've seen. Difficulty seems about right for me, not to hard, not to easy. Audio is about the only thing which could really use some improvement.
As for the length of the game, I think it's pretty sufficient for 48 hours compo.
Very nice music, but the game was too simple/boring for me.
Doesn't work (for some strange reason) at all in Chrome (canvas will never fire up) - runs in firefox, but sometime during the second level all texts stopped showing - including buttons in leveling up after second level.
Controls could use some work (I often deselected my char when I tried to move him a bit away), hunting blobs of xp/hp/mp was more annoying then fun in the end.
Very good job, I think it would fit in my "top of ludum dare 22"
One of the best entries so far, congratulation.
It looks nicely polished and music is very good, but... man, the difficulty is really on the level almost unplayable... I somehow finished the level on my first attempt with 1 life remaining and F result. Since no new levels opened, I thought I need to have better result and give it several other tries... never made it to the last boss :)
With the exception of insane dificulty nice entry, but connection to the theme is non existent :) "Alone" is here even less then in other games i've tried (including mine, which too has kittens.... zombie brain eating ones, but cute ;)
Excellent entry, even my attention deficit disorder let me play it way longer then any other submissions... (well except mine, but that I had to do.... :)
Nice art, especially backgrounds, but it gets very boring... i have up in second level when I was constatly falling on one place and hadn't encountered anything but running from other personalities, jumping and occassionaly shooting the wall.
Nice pixel art, but very simple and very short minigame without any connection to theme (I could strain my insane brain a produce some very abused logical explanation if I wanted, but...).
Not much even for LD
I don't get it... like... not at all :)
Kinda confusing, I had no idea what's going on in the second room... and it's too short even for LD entry.
I liked visuals, it created nice mood together with simple music in the background.
BTW almost raqequit in the first screen since I fell from the last platform and had to watch slow the "cutscene" again...
It shows promise, too bad you ended with "140% unfinished"
One of the bugs I encountered is that sometimes when you move without having possibility to shoot, game will hang.
Quite good and funny, as you were already told, zombie voices would be nice (and probably better than using your "lock and load".
It would be nice if there was more variability and content, but as LD game it's quite sufficent, it's one of those I'd rate as "I like it"
I am disappoint (together with mr. President). Even after getting your hint (start rotating ship at start and then just use good timing for dodging) I wasn't able to get to the end. Well... maybe if I'd fly really slowly, but then my tea wouldn't be no good probably.
Very impressive for LD, quite funny too, about the only thing which was really annoying was hitting the exit from the current room.
Plus points for art style and mood. But as a game it leaves a lot to improvement.
This is probably the first soccer game I liked :) Congratulation :)
No theme at all, but great fun :)
Very good, it just needs some background audio (not even music, but just some random hums, breathing in the suit etc).
This, better camera that wouldn't go occasionally outside the station and better readable hacking panels and it would be perfect...
Simple, yet fun to play (but gets too hard too quickly), too bad you hadn't used more then five hours :)
It was interesting attempt, but I ended typing a lot of keywords hoping I'd hit the spot and then had to check your sources.
(Ok... I admit, dandelions isn't THAT hard... I might have thought about that myself... but war? How was I supposed to know that I should ask bout it?)
You'd have to implement either more intelligent chat bot, or guide player at least a bit (I guess version with hints could be it...) - getting "i dont understand" for anything with exception of few implemented keywords got old very quickly.
BTW - Great nick :)
Bit too short and simple, but it must be good game anyway since I've made something very similar for LD21 :)
Controls are killing it, otherwise it could be quite good.
good one :)
Nice mood and art, i guess "story" too, it definitely fits the theme. Due to the slowness and overall "boring" feel of gameplay I hadn't tried to find another way to end (I'm pretty sure I've tried and looked everywhere, but found nothing except few rations, oxy maker and food maker).
Good music. Otherwise... since creditors etc has no AI and you can just hide in one room and write write write unless new guy pops in your room... After checking in sources that there's nothing else to do i quitted.
Very good and innovative mechanic. I love platformers without jumping :D
It definitely has potential, but... first time around, I probably hit the drone thingy without even knowing it and then when enemies started to spawn and attack, I had no chance... next time, after reading what i'm supposed to do, I've upgraded quite a lot, took out drone and... nothing...
(I'm thinking it would be too hard even with the upgrades).
But some improvement and it could be really fun game.
PS: found the kitty :)
Won't run either (I'd love to know how Cell managed to play it...)
Not much of "alone" I could see with the exception of "alone against monsters", but otherwise very good and polished game... and it's quite fun to play - coming from someone who dislikes platformers that's very good praise :)
Art and audio are too very good. Congratulation, currently probably contender for the best I've played yet.
It looks very good (nice mood :), but the oh so slowness combined with restarting from the start with every small mistake makes it quite annoying... I rage quit after a while :/
Well... four games and not that bad story. Good work, but I think you'd do better if you focused more on less, I almost gave up in the first chapter. Your decision to just track score and don't hurt / tell player anything is interesting idea, but... I don't know, I think it made game less engaging.
Too bad there's just one level, kinda expected more...
I had to turn of postprocessing (at least I guess post=1 means that) - otherwise screen would show anything for just about half sec and then get all white.
Quits when I get swallowed by the black hole (i got tired of running away from it, so I tried what's going to happen) - is that intended, or bug?
I'm a sad puppy :/
Error occured while "downloading packages". WINXP, latest java (required by some other entry), several java games using LWGL worked normaly
Raqequit :/ I gave up after several attempts to jump on a platform without being killed by stalagmite (or stalactite? I always mix them up).
Yeah, moving in full armor's pretty tricky, I know it from the real world, but inertia, one mistake = dead, slow movement from checkpoint... it all adds up in a title which just isn't fun for me to play.
Nice pixel art (although knights movement is strangely choppy).
Great idea :) Good game for mathematicians and programmers, but right now I'm too tired to play it to the end :) (but going to bookmark)
(For the idea alone best overall / innovation rating I gave today :)
I win...
Next time please DON'T use megaupload, especially for something which has 60 kbytes. Also information that you're using XNA would help some people to at least know why it's not working.
Works for me, although can't say I like it. (And i see almost no connection with the theme)
Repeat until bored very quickly :( it has potential (i like space trading games :), but it would need a lot more work.
I was able to... "play" it for a while with the hint that I shouldn't press anything.
And same question as Summaky has - character looks suspiciously well drawn compared to the rest of the game. Did you made it? :)
Thanks guys, you don't how much comments like "weirdest entry" and "product of mad man" appeal to my insane mind :D
RobProduction: yeah, attacking when clicking on items in menu was annoying, it's one of the small bugfixes I've added to postcompo version.
DevMax: sources are not required for jams, but I put it up for you anyway.
Ghostik: for picking items there's this thing called mouse view (right click + drag, I'm pretty sure it's written in the help inside the game, but who reads helps right? :).
As for the inspiration... nah, I've noticed LoG (and I'm looking forward to it), but it was more like... "what kind of a game I could make I hadn't done already and always wanted to do?"
Yes, your level generator tends to create unplayable levels (or it's too difficult for me)
Zooming out and in was nice idea.
quite confusing (well... actually a lot :), took me quite a long time to get into it.
Very good entry, congratz
Excellent mood and very good art and audio, but no game. Base idea is great, but I would't dare to call this interactive... because "interactivity" consists of either holding left or right cursors key for long enough (well, maybe you can change your mind after going left for too long)
As John Conrad says... entries like these just make me rethink my decision to once again try and rate as much games in the compo as possible :/
Good mood and visual / audio atmosphere, too bad you hadn't time to implement some other gameplay than slowly walking and jumping...
BTW isn't using premade assets (song from freesound) against the compo rules?
Great idea, surprisingly bit too easy for a stealth game. Problem is that it gets too repetetive and boring quite quickly :( (Hope you'll do some postcompo version)
Full points for art :)
Good use of theme :) And quite nice puzzle
Good idea (I was thinking about something like this, so it MUS T be good idea :D), but whatever I've done, I wasn't able to finish... when sometimes bugs occur every two seconds and I just don't have anything else to remove them...
Ahh, it reminded me good old days with Catacomb The Abyss (I liked it much more then later Wolfenstein by the same guy, I think he's called Carmack :D).
For Notch cultists: it might come as a shock to you, but Notch didn't invent 3d games.
Mood, audio, art, poem... it's all good. But this is game competition :(
While there's a lot of good here (especially after I gave up fight with collisions and took a look at the gameplay video), there's also a lot of bad, often simple tiny stuff which brings the game on its knees (and that's shame :(
First part: enough said about it - I almost quit since I couldn't hit the flashlight - just couldn't get close enough to E start working... then after watching gameplay video and trying again (this time knowing that I was right) it worked... Forcing me to JUMP for batteries was also bad.
Collisions: baaaad... very baaad. Not sure how you managed that in unity, I guess you're using some invisible blockers for some stuff, but - stairs blocked, doors blocked, sometimes I moved through the wall without knowing how... Same goes for the interaction collision, hitting the stuff I want was sometimes problematic. Closing front doors required several attempts.
Texts in 3d - didn't like this a bit.
No sounds - just a little work with mike, some ambient breathing and extremely simple sounds like door opening etc, 20 minutes of work max, would help the mood in a big way.
Good:
Use of toon shader and art overall. I really liked it.
Basic idea and design - nice action adventure. Too bad you're totally and sometimes illogically forcing player to follow one given route.
I suggest you make post-compo version with some improvements, this game would deserve it.
It's interesting entry with nice mood even if the graphics is very minimalistic. Took me sometime to understand what I'm supposed to do.
Very interesting approach to the theme, but imo it fails as a game, it would need some more gameplay to be more captivating - I quickly become bored (also few times it was next to impossible to get to the shape since some 8-polys spammed it's location and I couldn't get there.
Final verdict - one of the better games showing promise, with great mood.
Same as helloserve - blank screen after start ame
Nice idea using poem as "level", but... that's about it. Too short, and I wouldn't call it a game.
As others said... nice intro, where's the game? :)
Same here, white screen with "ammo left"
Yeah... collisions are crap. Since every time I start to dig for more metal some kitten goes through the wall and starts to breed on my legs, I'm kinda unable to do anything. Good idea, but it alternated between boring and uplayable (I really have no idea how to escape wall moving kittens :/)
Very good music.
Yeah, bit too hard... gameplay consisted of me runing wildly from ship to one direction to see if I noticed something which might or might not be a part and then running back if i hit 50... I was never able to grab all of them and I quit after few attempts. Nice atmosphere, but I'd rather see more of a game - some oxy pickups would definitely help to make it more playable.
Good little game - if you just made char's sprite little different :/ I gave up in fourth or so level, because I was usually dead before I found out which sprite is me...
Excellent art and music, but I'm seriously confused about gameplay, especially as mouse click doesn't do anything and all I can do is climb over boxes...
Movement is agonizingly slow :( (almost as waiting for download... btw how does only 48 hours translate to 200 meg monster? :))
I had a feeling I should get a book a read it, while moving to next interesting place, but for exploration it was kinda straightforward. I gave up after few minutes of walking, sorry.
Art gives it nice and unique atmosphere, but that's about everything... (I would really like to know WHAT takes 200 megabytes in your game... actually I'm so curious I've started to download your sources...)
Ok, mystery solved - your finalHum.wav is uncompressed 30 minutes long wav which sounds pretty much the same as 400kb hum_patch wave file looped to 30 minutes.
I would STRONGLY recommend to just use looped hum, or (if there are some hidden sounds I hadn't heard just by randomly browsing the file) at least set it to be compressed to ogg, which should put it to managable size of few megabytes.
yeah, I think that audio file definitely counts as a bugfix :)
Epaik said most of what I wanted to say... I had to stuck my face directly to the monitor to "see" if there's really a way, or door or whatever. I quit after few minutes of mostly blindly walking around and listening to annoying "noway" sound
While it might have been nice idea, constantly writing go left / go right made me feel like i was playing some "type them up" game :( it becomes extremely annoying / frustrating after a few moments. (if you at least gave us possibility to reuse last command...)
There's a potential here, but end result is too unfinished.
Ultra low res and waving walls were great, but I couldnt get out of the first map - it seems that screen is cut on all sides?
It kept crashing on me too on win - more or less randomly after playing for a while, once when one sheep got too low, but several times just crashed during the game. (i even fired up debugger, but since it's release file, it's somewhere in the assembler in the exe file).
It's not a bad idea (good take on alone I think), but it would need something more to be interesting. About only part thing I can't find any fault is music (not exactly style I like, but fitting and well done)
Can't run it... UDK installation asks me for licence, then crashes and apologizes for any inconvenience.
Win XP with geforce 8800, normally UDK stuff runs...
just crashes after I hit accept. I've got several visual studios and redisributables on my comp, I don't think that's problem...
What version of UDK are you using? I (very vaguely) seem to remember that first few versions contained some very stupid bug which caused crash on non-english windows. Can't remember what I've used to go around it
It made me laugh (which is rare in this LD so far), but it was pretty annoying that I had to restart whole game when I tried to play with too many kittens :/
Mood is good, art is nice (and fact that you've coded everything from scratch is a big bonus), but I kinda miss some more fun / gameplay here. What's really bad is you don't tell player how to control the game (if not for your explanation in comments, I would probably tried E, but since there's no feedback that pressing E done anything...).
I gave up after picking energy core, since I found no new opened door and it didn't seem that pressing E on other stations is doing anything...
Right click instead of shift click would be much better choice for controls (and yes, you can do this in unity).
I declare you the winner (at least in overall, innovation and fun). Congratulation. There are things which might be improved (visuals could get mighty kick with few simple effects, mouse sensitivity setting would be nice etc), but nevertheless, this is the kind of the game I think LD is about - simple, but innovative and fun.
Theme connection is weak, but since that is more or less standard in this compo....
It wouldn't kill you to give a link to compiled file - not everyone has visual studio installed and bother downloading it just to try your game.
Enemies are invincible (gets to minus lifes and continues to attack - not sure if it's bug or intended), hints what to do are sometimes quite too straightforward. Writing investigate instead of interactive fiction Examine means I'll have to change my keyboard sooner then later :)
And all ' are missing
Good idea, but it really relies too much on chance.
While artistic feel is excellent, both video and audio, worth of five stars, I'm probably missing something, or there's not much of a gameplay - after wandering around for about ten minutes (even with the help of the map) all I managed was to pick three boulders... So... any hint what to do?
Doesn't work (new java installed yesterday, win xp 32 bit, downloaded win 32 version) - after start there's just blue screen and score label
So.... cocos2d means no win version, right? (not sure where I put my mac mini after packing)
libgcc_s_dw-1.dll not found. Also antivirus screams and warns and wants to run it in sandbox mode
It has potential... If you're going to improve on this, PLEASE, add possibility to skip dialogues (to next sentence), it's agonizingly slow.
Get admins to move it to jam, I'll rate it then...
As for my thoughts about game - very good pixel art which alone sets nice mood (which would be really improved with just a simple audio background). Compo version is too unfinished gameplay-wise, but shows promise. (Tried post compo version too, it works a bit better, still a lot of place for improvement, wouldn't mind playing post-post compo version :)
Extremely clunky controls are killing it... having to release all keys and then hold the one I want now use is very unfriendly. I also found it too easy to get stuck in items in the level with no way out but restart.
Fix the controls and it might be fun.
Contender for the first place in jam. Art and audio are good, idea for the game and level design is excellent, nice use of theme. Could use more levels, but for LD it was more than satisfactory. Congratulation.
Next time please include used dlls so I don't have to run, search for another missing library, put it there, run etc... for some reason game always ends as soon as it starts unless it's started from command line.
I've herded cats for a while, got enough of them on required places, returned to my place, nothing happened :(
Excellent - first entry I'm giving 5 stars for innovation.
Runs without any problems - nice supaplex clone, gave up after few levels so I can go and rate something else too - overally... (almost) no negative feedback (i found third level kinda boring... waiting until all stones fall down to well), with some small art/sound upgrade and enough levels it could be easily taken as another supaplex / boulder dash game. Something little more innovative would be nice (if there is something beyond fourth level, I apologize :)
Not compo entry (wouldn't rate high even if it was marked as a jam)
Considering it's in unity it's very weak... better luck next time
One of the worst entries so far. Don't give up so easily next time. (Also, DON'T use installer next time)
put up webbuild somewhere, or at least "real" windows version (preferably somewhere else then on mediafire).
Great idea (it's not a game in traditional sense, but it's interesting and after hours of crunching on my jam entry i really enjoy something which just lets me lazily fly around...)
Very original idea, although it's too short and in the end boring. But innovation is what's important (at least for me)
Music and simple, but strangely aesthetically appealing art set nice mood. Gameplay-wise it's pretty standard maze walk / enemy avoid, but with good execution.
It looks more like completely unfinished... (at least providing one downloadable package would be nice, without forcing me to either look for what i need, or download whole git archive).
I wasn't able to understand how is the hammer working... sometimes it makes tile, sometimes not...
Excellent
Idea of changing gravity is good, but since I've raqe-quitted after a while, I can't say if it's used in some interesting way. I really hate platformers (or any games) which are forcing me to be super-precise.
BTW next time please make dialogues skipable.
Am I missing something, or is it really just blindly clicking and hoping you'll win?
Unless I'm missing something, it's not a game (grabbing ball with mouse doesn't work much, after a while it just bounces here and there without me influencing anything.
I rage-quitted after getting game over for running out of ammo (I used my last shot to destroy the brown thingy (crate maybe?) for ammo...
interesting idea, nice art, bad execution. I don't think it's possible to get away from the second rolling can - i gave up after several attempts.
Well... I kinda expected more from the 200 mega download :) But it's good entry, one of the best entries I've yet played - because gameplay is quite good (old proven top down view + mouse shoot) improved a bit by a need to switch between powers (although I've used fireball, only switched to lightning against red squares, occasionally frost nova to keep teleporting skeletons (?) on place). Audio is perfect and helps to create a very good mood. Art was a bit of disappointment (after long download and nice title screen) as was level design. Not much use of theme either except alone in the monster (but since I consider this theme bad and number of entries trying to use it somewhat is very limited, I want hold it against you).
BTW... why 200 megs? did you use gigantic bitmaps as your levels? :)
Crashes at the same place, about fifteen seconds from the start
Not sure what I'm supposed to do after I have heart and friend is finished... otherwise good entry, good use of unity - I liked the way it looked.
Good (ab)use of theme, otherwise too simple and short without any real challenge.
And it doesn't terminate itself correctly, but stays as process.
Simple, but fun :)
I gave up after a while, blindly walking in a maze being chased by wall-walking monsters isn't exactly my cup of tea.
Excellent music.
Installers are bad for your health!
As for the game itself, it has potential, but also few serious problems - chief among them is that you save state of the enemies in the level... If a monster train is hunting me, I move to previous level to rearm and regenerate health etc... I can't go back anyway, because they'll eat me alive as soon as I go through the door.
I've played it several times, quickly found that I have to shoot and shoot in the first room with monsters to get enough for best weapons, then with enough ore run through the shaft...
So: Good idea, not very good execution.
Quite funny :) Not bad at all, even if it's simple.
I got stuck after a while (after Edgard boards) - whatever I do (I'm pretty sure I've tried every possible option) , game still hangs in the same state.
I took a quick look at the source to see what's there - nice little game, although not exactly my cup of tea.
Overall: quite good entry with nice art.
Great! Wasn't able to win, died once, gave up second time because I had problems to keep cities occupied.
There are just few minor problems, sticky collision, too repetetive short music, maybe some balancing to make game a bit more playable. Any other improvements from my wishlist go beyond the scope of the LD :)
Controls are bit too sensitive. Good idea, but it's extremely minimalistic.
user unfriendly? more like ragequitter unfriendly except it quits before you can start raging. Gave it few tries, gave it up
Bit confusing at first, died twice before I managed to finish the journey. Potential can be seen here, but the end result is not that good.
And AFAIK using resources (even free ones) like sound effects are against the rules for compo (so this should be marked as jam entry)
If not for comments bellow, I probably woulnd't find out that buttons can be pressed by mouse, i thought it's another platform and was getting frustrated how to get to it...
After finding this i found the game usually either easy or unplayable ;) (some levels doesn't seem winable, I had to reset).
Overall: very good
Several very small games, actually so tiny it's hard to see. Cute, but a little bigger would help (I almost gave up in first platformer level because I had problems to see that the ground has holes).
I don't get the keypad code puzzle (even after I found it in the unity source project).
I rate it as good, art creates nice mood, I would love to see something more (i was hoping for more puzzles and levels, this is bit too short...)
Full points for art, extra humor points for the "spleen".
Too bad that you run out of time, because right now it's just pretty boring intro :/
Firefox (on mac) tends to get very slow, chrome works better. Both stop responding after parking in the zone.
Not bad. Not bad at all. Since you've added upgrades, it forced me to play almost to the end, even if slow flying back and not much of a challenge except controls (which I found simple and that's strange, because I usually have problems with diffuculty of LD games others say are easy).
Didn't finish though... Bought the core device something, but I couldnt find out how to steal the core and in the end burned in it.
I have no idea what the end meant. gameplaywise... a bit boring, I almost rage quitted while trying to find how to quit the dialogue. (not being able to check controls again without quitting and running again is really unfriendly).
If I get it right, I have to unblock the stairs and kill a spy. Not much of a puzzle, if there's some stronger meaning, I'm not seeing it.
A bit problematic to rate game when there's only video and nothing more :/
Good idea! Found it bit too hard thanks to the full spectre of colors, but won anyway in the end.
Very good entry, this calls for postcompo version!
Excellent piece!
Excellent piece, best so far for me. But I wasn't able to finish as I just found no way to get through any adamantium level. Even with speed and force on max I can break only through one level variant and after leaving the purple field my characters gets stuck vertically...
You know, after that glorious intro I've expected a bit more :/
But good anyway and first game i'm rating 5 for humor (for the arrow heressy!)
Although it fits the theme, I doubt it could be called a game.
Not much of a game, but I really like it :) Too bad it's not a bit longer....
Slow movement is agonizing, but I understand why... with fast movement it would be done in 30 seconds.
Doesn't work (tried in both chrome and firefox). Hangs after burning ants and showing menu.
It now works...
Showing food ammount on screen without forcing me to open stats would be nice. UI isn't exactly great but the biggest problem is that it's pretty slow :( waiting seven minutes with not much to do but occassionally move egg or larva isn't my idea of fun.
Congratulation for your first game... better luck in next LD, hopefully with something better then just simple maze :)
I'm amazed! All around one of the best games so far. Hope you'll be enhancing it more.
Not much to play here. I guess I see where were you going with it, but currently it's just a basis without much fun.
Excellent piece (and I normally HATE jumping games). Good idea , nice fitting art and story.
It hanged after a while in chrome, I don't know why... Just stopped responding at all, like it would stop receiving timing.
Good idea, but it's suprisingly hard to get into the game. Bookmarked, will try again later.
I seriously dislike games based on trial and error. It's essentially a maze game with limited view and serious time limit. Points for trying to spice it up with emergency teleporter and limited wall removal, but the basis of try and hope you'll reach the exit isn't fun (at least for me)
Not bad herding game.
OSX build doesn't work (on lion, doesn't start, ends without saying anythjing).
webplayer works though. Interesting, but I kinda don't get why I'll should transport food only to destroy my source of income to win.
zero for audio, using finished assets for compo is not allowed.
It's the best jam game I've tried, congratulation. Reminded me that old DOS adventure game based on Kafka. If not for the reallly really annoying camera (you should just gave us mouselook) and ocassionally human spotting me out of his ass (probably) it would have been perfect.
Well... maybe except for the sounds :) "music" was nerve grating
Good idea with arrows returning back down as it reduces tendences to just spam shot.
First impression was very good, but similarly to other reviewers i found controls extremely clunky. What REALLy annoyed me was that I had to "listen" to dialogues every time i had to retry. I got stuck on the level with red cell "boss", unable to kill it or do anything else. Gave up after about ten tries. I'd like to finish it, but it was just too annoying :/
GOOD: art (althout character movements don't look that good), mood
BAD: controls (getting stuck to walls, some times it stopped responding at all, inability to shoot backwards), inability to skip dialogues, pretty forced level endings.
Overall quite good despite the controls.
Can't run on mac (python 3.2.2 or whatever is current version, just downloaded it)
File "main.py", line 30
print(character, end="")
^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
Deleted that part (I have essentially zero knowledge of python and have no time and need to learn it just to run one entry), tried to run again, first text showed, then python fails after I'll try to write something).
Good idea, as others said, too simplistic execution. Let's see you shine next time :)
Great art + music, excellent final mood. Game is... bit lacking. Too slow movement, not much to do.
doesn't work on mac, damn, I really wanted to check this :/ have to fix windows rig asap!
Visually very attractive, but for me it's too frustrating to play. I have up after a while, couldn't finish
If that audio was intentional, you'd deserve zero rating :/
Also, when you made flash game, why don't you post it somewhere online so we don't have to download and extract it? even dropbox would be enough.
Good work, guys. First impression was really great (music helped a lot, visuals are nice too), idea seemed great, but the gameplay quickly devolved into placing big redstone room and watching hero slowly walking his way through the enemies and lost it's appeal.
Bit faster gameplay, a lot more choices for player (maybe giving ability to choose what character gets for level?) and this could be awesome game.
And when I think about it, I'm really hard pressed to find some connection with theme here.
Controlls are killing it :/
I've tried to play for a while, but directions given once in some strange units, with a hard to remember planet name...
It would be pretty good if some of the actions would have more sense (like that red ribbon can be taken only after taking sword - when I clicked on the doll and nothing happened i just ignored it and couldn't find a way after using sword). This is needlessly complicating game (and making it annoying).
Great audio helping to create a nice mood, but it's not much of a game... shooting for a while then win. better luck next time.
Same as commenters above. All I can do is sleep (which either takes incredible time to stop, or just hangs out), and walk around the tiny apartment. Either the web version is seriously broken, or I'm missing something here....
Heh, glad to see that I'm not the only one who put some "mature" stuff in the LD :)
Yeah, gameplay mostly sucks, but it really is funny. Extra points for the postmortem in verses :)
at least put up gameplay video on youtube, you won't get much rates otherwise (I proudly admit I'm just to lazy to go search for my mac in a pile of unholy mess that accumulated near my table...)
Not valid compo entry. You should have set this as jam since you're using assets you hadn't done for the game yourself.
Very interesting concept (4 stars for innovation), as a logical puzzle it's not bad. Currently it's not that interesting to play more, but it's a concept which could be (maybe) expanded into something good.
I have nothing against edutainment, but this is too much education (for those who don't know / remember basic chemistry) and not much of a game (there's at least one game in compo that uses the same basis, but it's fun to play). It's more a like an interactive test from chemistry.
BTW edutainment that forces player to learn via other sources is bad imo.
Short, but good.
Visually looks very good (well, using finished assets saves a lot of time :), but it's put together nicely and with music it creates nice mood (about the only thing I disliked was ugly grasshopper's antenaes, because of the contrast with very nice looking level.
Not much of a game, but interesting experience.
The weirdest pinball I've ever played :)
Nice k421, sorry, k241 clone. I think I'll fire up Fragile Allegiance tomorrow and play it again after few years :)
Bit too hard to judge when playing my left hand against my hard hand, but this really seems like a great idea :)
I could go on, but Mattchu said all of I would :)
Increase speed, reverse direction!!!!
Good idea with lasso, it made the game much better.
Interesting idea and seems like a nice concept for interesting game. Too bad it's really too unfinished :/
Crashes after opening the red door.
I liked the idea of tiny world made of corridors and doors, but thats about everything.
Excellent audio, fitting art, creating nice mood. I could easily imagine how good this could be...
Sadly since in current state all you can do is randomly wander dimensions (I've tried about ten or more, never found any data) and you can't do much more then fight with monsters and enjoy mood.... If the actual combat would be better (clunky controls, shooting possible only while standing, making it really hard to kill some of the monsters and in not very challenging way) I'd probably stay at it more.
Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to postcompo version.
Interesting take on tower defense. Good use of theme.
Pretty good platformer greatly enhanced by addition of your noble steed.
Great concept, although I had some troubles to understand what I have to do, even when you've provided information :) And I really wasn't able to find out how to complete the second level :/
I'm sorry, I really tried, but I just couldn't find the cockroach. Even in dark room with secondary monitor switched off all I can see is red lock and i kinda can recognize some bars and ground... couldn't find cockroach, couldn't play (mouse look is INCREDIBLY slow on my machine no matter what I've done). Won't rate for now, but unless I find a way to actually see something....
Optimized version didn't help much (hint, put it up in links, not just in text, most people will miss it). I've cranked up brightness on my monitor to max and after a while I managed to find out cocroach, after some blind walking with it around I found the crack and put key down. Then my human character got so completely stuck in the bed that I ragequit , after probably already spending more time on it then on any other 40 entries I've played.
While mood and idea seems nice (points for innovation, theme and mood), it's pretty unplayable :/ falling mechanics is excercise in frustration, and mouse look is incredible slow.
Good concept, good game which is hurt by the controls :/ moving cursor to building button rotates planetoid away...
it reminds me one sf indie strategy game I player year or to ago... can't remember the name :)
Canard: could you pls upload the jar somewhere for us lazy?
Nice mechanics, but nothing that would engage me to play it longer... unless I've missed something? All I can do is pick red guys and throw them down...
As TenTonToon said, nice IK :)
Very good music, otherwise it's just a seed for a platformer game. I liked picking up more skills giving it a bit more interesting progress then in generic platformer
Good one. Very good music, not bad game idea, played several times :)
Nice concept, although the game is far too simple. But one of the best entries so far anyway.
You know... this is one of the wtf games :) At first I thought that it's just a very simple shooter, then the illusion thing broke into my brain...
I love games that mess with people's mind :) even if this is not much of a game, it deserves high rates :)
Sigh, flash version has problems with delegates I'm using in dialogues, so it blocks some possible walkthroughs. I'll fix it tomorrow and post it.
Several plays and I hadn't encountered a bug, hope you'll have the same luck :)
yes, I just found out that last time fixes for the flash version seriously broken the inventory. I'll put up fixed version asap, it's just few lines of code.
you can use piece of glass to cut brush (i forgot to add nailclipper as well), but you don't need to do this to get inside (tehre are four ways to get there)
ORNI: check text file (link on the page with game) with hints and full walkthrough for all possibilities (you need leather strips).
John_conder9: upstairs gets you to the roof and out to the alley (by jumping down or climbing if you already have ladder and grapple there). I had to cut out two screens to get it done, attic scene was one of it.
Racarate: yeah, there were supposed to be arrows showing you which way you'll move, I even have all exit areas marked for correct arrows, but these arrows were among the stuff I just hadn't time to finish properly :)
Make A Game: sorry to disappoint you, I don't have doll house on my table :/ (there's ton of stuff there, several computers, game consoles, various disassembled stuff, but about the only thing which would fit the "inspiration" is sketchbook with some acts in there. Even player was supposed to be surprised to see his girlfriend's dolls on his desk, but that was one of the details that got left out (including rather cool outro...)... writing postmortem now with notes how it should have been.
Also sorry for you and other girl players, you're kinda minority here, so I felt safe when targeting male programmers and messing with them a bit :)
Impossible: yeah, it's misuse :) I've decided to use unity just to see if I can easily force it to do something like this. In the end it was even easier then I thought, with the expection of the stupid GUI, but that's problem in any unity game if you're using their own. I considered doing it in a flash, but I'm still mostly untouched by it, although I admit quick tests with flashdevelop and flashpunk seemed impressive and I'll definitely want to do some flash LD... maybe next time :)
I've tried (thanks to fried PC i'm now sitting on mac) flash version, works ok in chrome (seems a bit slower, but nothing unplayable, at least on my mini). But it's nothing suprising since flash export on unity is still more like proof of concept then anything usable.
All right, ending was a plus. The only one. This was pretty boring, with gameplay mostly consisting of staring blankly at the screen and occasionally dodging or picking stuff. Try to do something more engaging next time (I almost quit before the end, started to tell myself to forget about this after third planet).
Is there something else to do then just spam buildings with food?
It really looks more like a very simple prototype of something more (and probably too complicated for LD game :). In current state there's not a lot of reasons to play it.
Interesting concept, although I had serious problems getting to the end (until I found i can walk behing Miguel thus solving the problem with putting stuff on the plate.
As one button games go, this one is clearly the best... COuldn't test with anyone, so played my left hand against my right, damn right won every time :/
Simple, but effective idea, could be really improved into something bigger.
The song is really excellent but I hesitate to rate it as five stars since it's not your work... but it's not against jam rules, so I'll rate it anyway (say for picking good tune)
I like the concept and art is nice, but I have serious problem judging who and what and where... My monitor is quite huge, I have no idea how to enlarge swf file which is not embedded and in the end, icons in the night are quite hard to distinguish.
Otherwise good, one of those entries which could be used as a basis for something bigger.
I spent several minutes trying to find the planet to land on and then gave up.
Pretty simplistic FPS, but fun to play. You should probably move respawn points a bit farther, this way respawn usually got me right into the middle of the balls.
I'm not sure I get it... It seems like a noninteractive (with the exception of the tutorial) one screen message that people are killed in the war...
Very nice visuals and sounds with very simple, yet still quite fun gameplay. Too bad there wasn't more
Good idea, but slow movement speed makes it pain to play. I wasn't able to get by the big head. No matter how I tried, I never could get to third plus sign to grow big enough :/
You know, this could actually be very very good game. Very nice twist on classical burst bubble game, but why is it sooooo sloooooooooooooow? Clicking... then waiting approximately ten seconds before I'll get another turn... I gave up soon after "friend" showed up, just didn't have patience for it :/
Very good (I was considering something like this too, so it MUST be good idea :D).
But there are few buts - naming is annoying, way to win is spam as much stuff as you can, it lacks gameplay a bit later, with nothing much to do. Anyway, rating high... are you going to work more on this? It reminds me good old simearth :)
Nice idea, too bad that controls are quite user unfriendly :/ Both platformer and puzzle part could use better controls.
Exactly as you said in your post, this is more of a toy then game. Fun factor is pretty low, since it consists of watching simulation and maybe interfering with it by killing some tinies. Or not.
Very good! Nice art, excellent music, quite innovative gameplay. Could use some more possibilites (maybe I missed something, I gave up with score about 25). About the only thing I disliked was the "clunkiness" of the controls while moving on the webbing or on thin stick, spider allways moved for a while into falling mode, it was bad to control... maybe moving spider after a fall more to the center of the stick would help?
Excellent music and nice looking visuals, idea of platformer inside one planetoid also looks nice. Too bad you hadn't had enough time to create a game out of it. Are you going to work more in this? As a tech demo it looks very interesting (and that's coming from someone who hates platformers with a passion :).
For 48 hours you're supposed to use only your own assets created during the compo. If you've drawn the anger face and photographed the kitchen, I apologize. Otherwise it's against the rules.
I love it. Excellent work, you win. I'd give 6 overall if I could :D
There is only ONE problem and that is that grid :/
Otherwise really excellent game I expect I'll play more and more.
This is one of the reasons I love LD and gamejams, because sometime really good idea manifests itself.
You know, this almost doesn't need anything else (maybe except that confusing grid and some music) to be declared full game. Some hints for player would be nice, but finding it out by myself was very rewarding.
I suggest you take this idea and put it on ipad/android to get some money rewards for your idea :)
Checked the Triple town, there are some similarities here, but I like your take better. You still rock.
it would have been actually pretty good game if not for the incredible slowness of movement... it gets boring really fast.
Definitely minimalistic game :)
Fantastic piece, I'm glad to finally see an attempt to make a game with a bit more of depth.
And kudos for the first ever (that I've seen) LD game with PDF manual :D
Fight with minimalism turns standard sidescroller to something much better! Holy potatoes!
Great minigame :)
On ipad it's almost unplayable
How do I get to the astral?
HOLY POTATOES!
(controls and camera suck, otherwise it more or less works)
Life_of_colonies.exe is not a valid windows32 exe.... could you provide just the love file?
Oh, I see, 64 bit executable (bad idea this... there are still a ton of us with win xp)
Website still down :/
Excellent mood / art / ideas, one of the best entries I've yet seen... my only problem is that it's too slow, occasionally bordering on boring (slow pace, extra slow fadeouts and fadeins...)
The Free Ride Tony Smith completely kills my framerate (webplayer, chrome).
Also suggestion - make gun move only when Screen.lockCursor is true
Do a postcompo :) Although I'm starting to get a hang of this, there are definitely ways that it could be improved and make it more accessible (i'm still a bit fumbling around and trying to my way around)
I somehow managed to get over the first husband dialogue... second hangs and hangs... after restart, not even the first one worked....
As a rule I don't like attempts to minimize the gameplay and reduce it to bare bones, but you're suceeded, good job.
Gilmore606: It would be hard to find a game which would have worse, even in the below average ludum dare games....
Very good - saving link for this one to finish all the levels later
Interesting and minimalistic - it could be used as a base for a good puzzle game (endless gets boring fast)
It gets boring when you run out of the crew and just randomly sail around hoping to find a port (i found only one)... finished in the end after few minutes, but can't say I was enjoying myself.
The ship controls were too clunky, free rotation would at least give me some more feel for movement.
Great music, but I just don't have reflexes for this kind of game, always crashed into wall after few obstacles
Controls are quite awkward, I was constantly falling down and dying, sometimes because I couldn't see where I'm going to jump, sometimes just because I was too clumsy....
Basic game design concepts explained interactively:)
Very good and very polished game. I wasn't able to get through the horse though :/
Save the COMIC SANS!!!!! Now if there only were some potatoes....
don't have working droid...
Excellent music. Art is a bit inconsistent and the gameplay is... strange, due to the collision bugs and lack of visual feedback, especially in the second level.
But that music.... Let's FIGHT!
Pretty good idea with the growing, but it feels just like a test of the mechanics - no restart is annoying.
I hadn't find a way to get to potato behind the glass cube or whatever it is :/
I am the pervert! (there were no potatoes to choose...)
I had luck to run in someone so I could at least play it. It's minimalistic and might be even interesting with more players (and less lag which is probably my fault).
Anyway... doing an MP game is a special achievement, but it makes rating so much more complicated unless the game goes viral. In a game so simple as this you might have add some bots.
I have no idea what it meant, since either I missed something or I run out of the text, so I prowled the garden for a while yet and then quit. Moody artistic.... not sure if game, but since I had to wait several before I could get to a text trigger, it could be probably called a game.
Not my cup of tea, although I appreciate the overall mood.
Fantastic :)
Well it definitely is minimalistic.
Not worth downloading (and I would otherwise had a tendency to rate text adventure, especially for DOS, a bit better then average)
Hillarious and funny, although controls are just a bit too strange (character doesn't responds very well, even without any items) and resulting gameplay is mostly chaotic.
Invisible walls in the "maze", monsters spawning around me without actually doing anything, same seems to go for the shooting... after finding a hole black screen with In Progress without anything else.
With the exception of the music very weak entry, one of the weakest I've yet seen.
Might be nice idea, but hardcore? more like insane... i really didn't have the patience for this :/
Give me the pleasure! (this really cracked me up)
Minimalist it is... but game? I don't know, I'm either missing something, or it kinda doesn't work...
each of few attempts (of trying to guess the mechanics here) ended in black screen with no rows going to me...
Not bad, although a bit confusing at first (I hadn't realized that it works in 3d, maybe you should make the default camera angle rotated a bit so it would be visible at start).
Very good music, but since it's creative commons, I can only rate you for selecting a good piece.
Button smashing was a bit annoying, but great game. One of the few I gave something for humor, the only where I gave 5 stars :) "censored" made my laugh you, which was nasty since it made my ribs hurt :/
This is FUNTASTIC! Too bad there's just few levels (there's some mention of free play in the last level, but I can't do anything more....) I demand more notes!!!
On the serious side... the best concept I've seen so far
Nice - I think this kind of game might be done without any art at all, just with sounds
Excellent mood and (theoretically) interesting concept... but I wasn't able to meet any other rainwalker whatever I tried... i tried to leave marks on two places distant to each other and write messages there, going around... never met anyone, never seen any other sign, got bored... after two tries I quit (BTW some button on the game session terminated to restart would be nice)
Is there a reason why don't you put the links on the standard place?
The idea is great, but i finished it just to see what other tools of artistic destruction I'd get... Can't say I was having too much fun, since this is more of a graphic toy than game (adding enemies made it just bit more annoying), but it's good anyway
The view cone gives it specific feel, but the constant blinking was too hard on my eyes.
Looks ambitious, but after wandering for few minutes here and there i got too bored.
Not the first game I've seen about turning minimalist art to something better, but the results are very good, even if the basic gameplay is platformer (which is a genre I hate with passion). I almost quit on few pages... but liked it anyway.
Probably because of the music :)
Idea seems nice and the rules working, but it's kinda hard to judge the effect while playing against myself... At least super stupid AI would make it a bit more interesting.
Very minimalistic and interesting approach... but since actual gameplay seems very limited (most of the time there was just one possibility) you have points for idea only...
Going bilingual was another interesting thing, but I think it's effect is mostly negative
Points for minimalising hero's journey :)
The gameplay is a bit lacking - all the fights can be win by just standing and spamming quick attack
No way I'm able to fire 66 without using some keyboard hack :/
So I've finally had a time to do some real testing.... postcompo is clearly in order (upgrades need some tuning, but the mothership control is a must otherwise it gets too boring too quickly).
Oh... and I see I forgot to mention that the green and white splashes on terrain are the uranium and ores.... shooting on normal terrain won't give yuo much if anything...
ataxkt: well... the gameplay is not focused just on killing enemies ;) there's mining and upgrading your ship too :)
and the wining condition is to gather enough resources to fly away from the crater
Split82 - yeah, halfway through I remembered it too :)
Hunter hungry and no potatoes!
I had a good feeling from it, but I'm not able to finish second level... after swinging over the first obstacle I'm just not able to jump at the end
You are teh winners. Enough said.
I completely missed the mirror mechanics on the first play and wanted to write something about bad collisions ;)
Good mood.
Kill the potato!
Poor potatoes :/
Very minimalistic shooter (unless i've missed something, but I got tired after dodging all those fries to be, the only thing I found was a shooting powerup....)
I can almost see the non minimalistic game made on this concept :)
The music is really excellent and really mood fitting... but gameplay wise it's supershort platformer (with at least the gravity as added small bonus). The intro (web version) works strangely, I almost quit the game before anything started because i got constatly repeating line for 200 000 years... but then the planet appeared
Good idea. Very good idea, although it's not very balanced and too much depends on the starting hand players gets. Hadn't tried the more player version which would be probably a bit better, but good idea anyway (and these kinds of games usually suck when you have only two players anyway)
no players:/
The game from time when single pixel could mean something.
Nice music :)
The best :D baby jesus ftw!
Sometimes it's a bit unclear what to do in the minigame, but overall, yeah, good one :)
Game got stuck after few levels (with some trees in the background) - Victory text is shown and that's about everything.
I like the idea, but (unless I missed more interested stuff later after the hangup) it's not challenging at all.
Brilliant idea, best use of theme I've seen :)
The core concept looks good and it might be used for a good game, but sadly... as it is it's just bit too boring to play more then a minute or two...
Simple but fun
Was this supposed to be a joke? Hello world tutorial from cocos and then your saved ipython notebook when you try open the files and use image functions on them?
This is chore, not game... makes me appreciate my life a bit more as I'd probably die if I had to work like this :)
Too bad you didn't finish it
Can I do anything else but walk around the house and let the black thing push me?
BTW not locking mouse cursor on the screen = bad playing in web browser
A bit hard to play on desktop, I'd guess on tablet it would be much better.
Since you promised that the full potential is in level 5, I decided to keep going, but...
it's a supersimple mahjong style game in 3d, too simple without any challenge to be fun - all you have to do is just to click on the same symbols and not click on the skulls. Gameplay is quite minimal.
Next time, please DON'T distribute games as installer.
BTW you could have invested a bit more time rather then just use tutorial for almost the simplest game there is and upload it...
It reminds me good old 8bit renegade, complete with a bit clunky controls
Bad writing and sometimes semicomprehensible english.
The Axe Cop, sorry, frendly cop, was about the only think I liked (because I'm Axe Cops fan)
This has a lot potential, too bad it's so short...
I'd consider making this a bit bigger game on your place. I like Steve :)
Wtf? I'm kinda... unable to guess what the hell is going on :)
BTW what is Music Raiser and where can I get it? :D
after blindly (with occassional use of torch) walking around the game crashed. Gave it another try and still not much better - I admire your fingers if you can reasonably use B for torch together with WASD :)
Mood seems nice, but I'm totally confused what is happening - sometimes zombie die when they touch me, sometimes I loose one heart...
Points for humor :)
I gave up after several attempts to run from the switch behind the table when the door always locked just in front of my face :/
The camera effect when going through the door was very "vomitive"
black screen when hitting the black angel looks more like a bug / game hang up.
It's pretty hard to start going in a good direction.
BTW - by using chiptune from someone else you broke the rules - game should have been posted as a jam (therefore zero rating for audio)
Nice one! Too bad I couldn't get over the level with two bots :/
I'll try again tomorrow.
Although the visual result is great, fact that assets are 3rd party kinda drags the result down (at least I hope you made some of your own art too :), nevertheless, full score for the mood, the end result IS good.
Can't say much about the game though. The combat is just simply boring and nice island wasn't enough to keep me interesting when the gameplay consisted of running and then mashing the 1 key :/
It's a good idea but it's incredible hard game for us tone-deaf :(
It might be funnier with two person but I have no way to test it, single player version is just too boring.
It reminds me good old turrican in some ways.
Great art (I wish I was that good :/) and nice little adventure - I found just two endings, but I'll probably try later to get the rest...
The idea is nice but the physical engine of Unity means that I get constantly stuck in civilians - managed to finish three levels, but then I gave up.
Not much of a gameplay, too simplistic and easy (after realizing what I'm doing, it would be nice to give some negative feedback when you can't push the button).
Full power to the audio!
This was actually so silly it was fun :D
SAYS ME, THE HATER OF DONUTS!
Very nice idea (first game I've rated that deservers some more stars for innovation)
Next time, make the dialogue skippable please...
I dig the art style and the story (all glory to the cake!).
Gamewise - it would be nice if the collisions worked a bit better, I was constantly losing the cake just because I bumped the house :/
Too easy and boring during the shit fall :/
It's not much of a game (even if I had to use about five retries :D), but congratulation on managing to make a strong story and great mood. I'd maybe cut some of the texts in the end as the epilogue sequence was too long and it needlessly took few percent of the emotional response I had.
Graphics and audio are great, making a superb mood together with the always welcome Thing-like story (btw it's not Carpenter, he just did one of the movie adaptation, not even the first one, althuogh arguably the best), but it's not much of a game (I originally wanted to say something worse because I run into a "known issue" with the head instantly after the intro dialogues stopped, only after I returned here I noticed it and gave it another try). Super slow dialogues while time ticks away, guy in labcoat ranting for a minute about the gas without me able to stop him... No closure, no real end (I'd shoot my head because the guy with the pistol didn't seem to be taken by the gas as the other two).
I'll try to check the postcompo if I remember to
I see you're still playing with the lowpoly :D (noticed some of the stuff you posted on the facebook IndeGameDev).
As a lover of good old space sims I approve.
Pretty good puzzle.
Poor hamsters :/ It was cute, but I see no connection to theme (not that I blame you though)
I actually considered doing something like this (one bullet, who'll you fire it at) but then I've decided that it won't be much of game when you have to do only one choice and only.
The writing is good but in the end it's and interesting shorstory (although I'd swear I've read something like this before) with ability to change the last paragraph and making "player" to think about the choices... (My first try was to kill the boss of Murder Industries, because I really don't like an idea that something like this would exist in the world)
Thumbs up for interactive fiction (I've always wanted to make some IF entry, but never got to it).
BTW is there a way to restart the story?
I gave up after several tries, but yeah, although I generally dislike one click stuff, this was at least funny ;)
no matter what I did I wasn't able to get past the tutorial - it didn't seem that Z and X key did anything.
A bit boring at first, then too hectic button smash...
So it really is just looking around at the nice art?
Too bad you didn't have time to do anything else, because art / mood looks great.
Suggestion: lock mouse cursor, otherwise it's not much playable in the web version.
Otherwise, I don't much get it - tried several time, always got bat (going for conservative as I am a gun nut, didn't help me much), tried to walk around the zombies and beat them, didn't have much fun.
Next time maybe concentrate more on the game and less on the politics :)
No, I can't hear anything (chrome, windows)
Ted Brown: you know... I never considered paper version (although it wouldn't be first paper game I'd made...)... thanks for the tip :D
Sean: even in the enhanced version?
Ending with a honest hard working tool is something that should get a high praise!
Probably best use of theme and overally one of the best entries - there's almost nothing negative I could say about it which is rare me being the bit nitpicker.
Didn't finish, too sleepy now, but it's the first entry I've bookmarked for later play.
Very nice take on the old time classic!
I kinda doubt it would be fun to play even if it was possible to keep the food on the table...
In Soviet Russia, Cigarette's smoke you!
I was looking forward for trying this ever since I've seen your smoking animation. Apart from the dialogue boxes which can't be skipped and take too much time, not much else to say but : I HATE YOU! I wanted to quit today, but after few minutes of being comrade player I'll just have to hit "save" button and then I'll go to buy more cigarettes :) (not that nicotinne starved and crazed by your game to actually get a gun and hunt other smokers in the streets :D)
It's nice, but yeah, you completely ignored the theme (can't blame you though) - it would be great entry theme-wise for one of the previous LD - Minimalism.
Game is a set of interesting choices, in your case it's not that interesting as I more or less just press SPACE and occasionally eat something if I found something - this is too primitive for my taste.
What's worse, your random generator is all powerful... first try I got a lot of enemies, one chest which allowed me to almost survive next fight. Second attempt gave me five chests, one enemy, chest, and then neverending string of enemies...
But I did like the art :) (check my game and you'll guess why :D)
BTW using previous code is ok in your case as you've put the game in jam (and in jam... generally anything goes)
Simple, but fun. Nice garage band music btw :)
any chance for window or mac version? (I'm really too lazy to install nux just for some random LD game...)
Ah, I had similar idea but I wasn't sure if it would work so I ditched it after few minutes of thinking about it - nice to see that someone made it and it works...
Good work (you're the first game in about 20 I've tried that makes me want to try another run)
Control issues, as stated by previous guys, are dragging it a bit down, otherwise nice inventive platformer.
Well, better luck next time
The submarine jumps!!!
Full stars for music!
After spending few minutes of mindlessly moving around the screens and not finding anything of interest, I got bored and closed it.
Flappy birds everywhere :(
Nice idea and art style for mamma and pappa subs. But the gameplay wise it's quite boring maze game.
I got steel plate, propeller and periscope, but now I'm stuck... nowhere else to go, no keys...
Solid platformer.
Not locking the cursor key means that the game is not very playable on multiscreen machine.
Interesting idea about the hexagons and overall you got some good mood there. I spent some time walking among the corridors and died at the hands of the walls sticking hands after I picked the second key. A bit boring in the end
Almost unplayable on the multiscreen desktop (mouse look without locking cursor means serious problems.
And also kinda too hard - didn't see almost anything with the torches :(
Great piece, best of LD so far. Too bad I didn't have 5 guys to help me with my own proceduraly generated fps :/
Suggestion: when you're using slowly typed texts in dialogues, use first click to show the entire text for us speed readers, don't skip it completely.
This is great, first game I've bookmarked for more tries, but... why there's no possibility of restart after game over save refreshing the page?
@ActionRemix - make postcompo version then, just the restart (and maybe some simple bells and whistles if you feel like it) - this game deserves it.
The updated version is actually pretty funny, upgrades give the old old old snake game nice new twist.
But that's the update made post compo. The originally submitted file doesn't deserve any stars. BTW posting screenshots from the updated version is a bit misleading.
Simple, but it works
Couldn't get past the start screen? Neither start nor credits are reacting on my clicking...
It might work if there were more levels actually posing at least some sort of challenge.
Seems like an original idea, but I find it boring really quickly.
I admit I had some fun for a time, although my inner cat prefers non-pooping fun generally
Web version screamed about wrong plugins etc, couldn't get it to run. Windows version shows only black screen with text info on the top and bottom after I start the game.
Mark it as android, not web, that way someone interested in trying android entries could find it via search.
I was not interested
Excellent piece, one of the best I've tried.
I'm not sure what to think about the art style - it's kinda strange how you combined super low res pixels and drawn backgrounds...
Downloading the unity file and running it on my own computer worked.
You got points for the idea and for ambitions, but the result I see just isn't very interesting. Slow clunky movement, seemingly nothing to do (well OK, maybe I gave up too early...)
Oh noes, I just found VERY stupid bug - gunshots stop at the door when hitting the trigger that detects player close and open it :(
@JokerDen: yeah, all sounds are made by my mouth or by various items I found on my table being banged together or against the table (well except the ammo pickup sound which is a sound of my beretta storm being cocked)
It doesn't seem to work much... several attempts, only once I managed to sell some oil... As soon as I try to move the price, computer stops buying from me even when I set the price to lowest possible
That was... certainly different. I never imagined I'd squaredance snowman to death.
I have been served... that's all?
Nice idea with zooming :)
I should have bought the leap motion :/
This looks... neat, atmospheric.
Art is nice, game itself is a bit chaotic.
BTW is there any connection to theme that I don't see?
I gave up after about a minute or two trying to break any block... I might have tried for a longer, but the ultra tiny window on my big monitor kinda made my eyes bleed when I squinted on the pixels there too much.
Seriously ?!
- Riva
Ludum Dare is for porn.
Took me a lot of tries before I got to the NSFW animation at the end - I had a feeling it was a lot more based on luck than it should be - I was constantly getting killed while trying to get mushrooms spawned on the edge of the screen.
Well, too bad it's not finished.
Roomba's motto: Suck all the world!
(I had fun vacuuming the room which is kinda surprising...)
I generally dislike platformers but I really liked this one and even finished it :)
One more level... let's play one more level... excellent work. I'll have to try it again later, but I already spent more time on your game than most others I've tried combined.
@someone I found out only during the test after submitting you can walk around him, it wasn't supposed to be so
@jharler you'd found that at the ending screens if you managed to escape from the N.O.T.H.I.N.G. Ltd. They're supplying specific caste of people with N.O.T.H.I.N.G. and many other stuff since LD45
@saltfactory-studio It's actually 2d isometric layered tile maps. no 3d allowed
Mechanics confused me a bit at start, but in the end I like it - nice to see something really innovative.
Really nice one - but I had some weird problems catching prey after a while. Might be, as justinoocx said, that I didn't see I already have prey in talons.
Congratulation on making a flappy bird I actually enjoyed :D
Excellent idea and mood. I gave up after a while when I was supposed to use green after jumping over a path of few small boulders, couldn't find the green anywhere nearby. (I see in comments that I was supposed to go back - to pick it, but I kinda expected that the color change will be nearby... might try again later)
Pretty good. You should probably merge all the interaction keys to one though. Shooting seemed weird, I wasn't sure if i'm doing it wrong if there's some chance to hit guard since most of my shots just went through them...
I've tried few times, but while I can kill slimes and kobolds without any problems, first ogre or goblin will kill me. even if I have two wooden swords :/
controls are rather problematic. On both tries to play sooner or later game got stuck and character slowly glided away. Not sure what happened. There's no gui in web version, so maybe I / altar died...
visual / audio looks very nice. too bad you didn't have time to make it more than just a short flythrough
looks good, although in few tries I made I always felt that randomness was against me and my designs. Bookmarked for later try
Excellent work, comrade! Your relatives will be released from the camp.
Love the mood. I like the idea in abstract sense, but can't say I like to play it. I considered assembler too much of annoying work 35 years ago and I still feel same about it :D
Looks cute. Plays pretty badly on keyboard, I had some problems walking on thin walls and jumping. I like it, but it's so damn easy to get lost in the desert so I left the game and my small pack of dogs after a while (had to kill the process, game wouldn't quit and hanged up after I've alt-tabbed.
Having time clone was a nice idea. Didn't finish though since i let the rifle go and I really wasn't able to finish the second level even if there were two of us
After being a bit confused by controls I've spent some time running around and dodging enemies just with my torch. I couldn't find the weapon.
Strongly suggest, possible for the next time - use numericals for choices. While I'm giving you points for mood, I'm not sure if it qualifies as a game in my eyes. It's just a nihilistic shortstory with ability to look for more details on way - IF / Visual Novel equivalent of walking simulator
Funny thing is - I was working with same idea, although my way was really different :) (one of the reasons why I gave up on actually assembling body from parts was that I was sure I wouldn't be able to do that in time in a reasonable way).
I've tried to play for a while - marking the tiles is confusing and I wasn't sure how exactly it works. But what's more problematic is that most of the times I actually managed to get some loot and equip it, after closing inventory I still had dead enemy and couldn't do anything.
I spend a long time going forward to get a helm. Then I turned and spend a long time going to get oxygen. Then I went forward for some time to pick up stone while being annoyed by some moon bugs. Then I was informed I'm supposed to wait for fabricator and stay alive... and after a while I quit. That weird broken texturing was intended?
I found a jetpack, so I could move a faster... for a while before fuels runs away... So I spent a lot of time going to house only to find out that there are some things, but I can't get to them. I moved to side to grill where are some other items that I can't reach... found some inactive inmoving spiders on a way, got bored pretty quick. I think you made a mistake in making the scale so huge and movement too slow - I just gave up after spending several minutes just slowly walking (a bit faster if you move to side too since you're not normalizing input). Mood and idea seems nice, but it's just too boring...
Webbuild won't open the menu as escape is consumed by browser I think so I can't check the options.
Enemy's health bar is not updating, so it's really hard to judge if I should attack or not, how many hp he has etc. This is the only thing that I consider bad as it breaks the game a bit. You should consider improving it, I sense a new puzzle quest here :)
itch.io link is broken (no page)
Controls are not exactly friendly. After few tries I found out that next enter press will switch me to a better view (I've actually played for a while still in the close view that's set on dying ninja...). Popping upgrades while the game runs is quite annoying. Inability to change the direction of attack means that some of the enemies are almost impossible to hit (melee guy on the third building for example)
I got depressed really really fast. I guess I don't have reflexes for this, i gave up after about dozen or two tries
Web version doesn't seem to work (chrome). PC version works. I spent some time punching poor seniors. (point for rather original setting)
Points for mood - audio is perfect.
Great idea for a puzzle game.
Kudos for thinking big and trying to make something big. I doubt you'll score high, but I really appreciated the attempt. This is first entry this LD that might get stuck in my mind for a while and first that I'd like to see being worked on more. (If you do, some more clear instructions for the ship would be nice)
@honey-pony: thanks for the detailed feedback from "not target audience" :D (i've copy pasted it to to-do file I'm keeping in case I'll be working more on this prototype). Also thank you for the Tentacle Wars :) didn't know that one - and it looks a lot like a prototype I was making (and didn't finish) for Ludum Dare few years ago :D
Controls is what keeps this game from being really enjoyable - having constantly clumsily switch from drag to click and button makes me feel I'm fighting controls instead of actually playing and enjoying the game. Just adding keyboard shortcuts for the function would make it really good.
Impressive amount of polish and interesting variation on the clicker. One of the best entries I found so far.
Nice simulation. But now I'm thinking about digging into the old dos archives and looking for good old sim earth and waste some hours playing with it :/
Must be strong. Must not click. Must rate ludum dare...
Heh, when the demonic surprise same, I LOLed a bit, nice idea :D
Nice one, although it seems a bit too random for my taste. I gave it about half dozen tries and always failed... Some of the texts reall made me smile.
yep, itch pages are not visible
I was all 'meh' before the first cat got in the box, then I reconsidered. Great idea with splitting the screen, I really liked it.
Too difficult and annoying for me :/ I did found out, after several tries, how to use the swing, and I did get to phase where I got all the abilities (at least from what game told me) but I wasn't able to overcome slippery controls to get through the next part, I gave up after about a dozen of tries... Nice mood and art though.
@honey-pony - yeah, I realized at start that I have to make a platform, jump and fly, but I just wasn't able to do that without getting spiked :/ sometimes it was just a pixel or two and I'd be able to get up, but...) (I do have to emphasize that I'm certainly not a target player for this kind of game, although I've grown up on 8bit platformers, I don't play them any more, few modern ones I've tried that are requiring precise timing I rage quited soon enough, so don't take me as standard.)
It seemed interesting at the first glance, but I quickly realized that all I have to do to keep turtles alive is constantly spamming road blocks and quickly clicking on any car I see. Some cooldown or limit on placing would be needed to make it more interesting.
Nice miniadventure. Probably best entry I've yet tried.
Pretty good, played for a while, but I always got shot after few screens :/ Music is a bit repetive and boring, but enough for the mood, art is excellent. And the idea of mother turned into caravan just had to make ma laugh.
for some reason I'm often unable to jump - when I press the mouse button, the meteorite stops moving, but I don't see the aiming points no matter where I drag the mouse.
Oh well, gotta say this was.... unexpected. I've pretty much bruteforced it by writing a quick script to analyze the contents, but... oh man :) lnk files didn't work for me anyway and I couldn't copy it corectly to C drive where it might work... which I later found out is issue with my file manager which wasn't able to delete the resulting mess due to toooooo long paths. Definitely... innovative brainfuck :D congratulation, this is one of the few ludum dare games I won't forget :D
providing at least some information how to run it would be nice, I kinda doubt that most people would be willing to learn what it is, how to compile or run it... this is the first time I've heard about the nim language and had to google what it could be...
@miej: yeah well... some more branching and interactivity was the first thing that got to go when I finished the draft and realized that there's no way I could finish the whole story in time unless I'll cut everything to bare bones :/
@fabula-rasa yeah, when I was recording, I often corrected typos or changed the line slightly, and I guess I didn't fix the text always, or cut it correctly - I was in a hurry to make compo time limit :/
@fabula-rasa you know, I never got to Wild Cards :) maybe I should :D
Really nice one, although I got stuck on the first riddle (I kept thinking it must be "story") for a while :) And I really like the world you've managed to build.
In future, please think about us who can read faster than slowly talking man - it's really annoying waiting for letters to slowly show up - and skipping means you'll miss the text (the ideal imo, if you insist on slowly typed text, is to use first skip to display all text)
Well, it's a simple variant on tetris like games (pretty much identical to Dr Robotnicks Mean Bean Machine for example), but it's really nicely done and polished.
Lovely weird :D I gave up after a while during the second day - a bit too annoying to deal with that falling stuff while I'm trying to guess what does this kitty deserve, but it fits the game. I had a lot of trouble at first with throwing cards from the table because I was trying the bottom edge before I realized I can do it more easily by pushing it up.
That screen shaking when you try to scroll too much to any side is intended? Made my eyes hurt a bit...
The concept is really cool, that combo of debug manual and using debug stuff is really nice... But man, as was said, the difficulty is probably too high - I just wasn't able to do the first bullet hell screen - gave up after few minutes since I just couldn't find a way to do it except having excellent reflexes... which I don't - I might have missed something, but couldn't find anything in the manual - and THIS area should have debug mode with invincibility :D I originally though oh cool I disable collisions and just walk past... didn't work that way :/
ah... k240 / Fragile Allegiance... the hours I've burned on isometric asteroids... great work, guys.
I was amazed by the music, so I was a bit disappointed when I noticed that it's royalty free - going to rate mood anyway, because it was a really good choice. The game itself is pretty good and polished. About the only thing that annoyed me was that if I find researchers at first, I have to go through the rest of the level to clean experiments and then backtrack (happend to me on the second level).
Simple but nice hex.... I guess builder is much more fitting than archeology "simulation". Definitely could use description of the tile before you place it (I'm looking at you, battleground) - sure, learning curve and so on, but I'd prefer being able to plan a bit (it would be different if the effect of the tile was partially randomized)
For some reason doesn't work for me in Chrome (stuck on unity load), works in Firefox though
heh, finaly an entry that made me laugh :D
@tailsgamedev - sorry... for some reason I've copy pasted only part of the link...
Well.. fixed now.
@rufson: who knows, maybe the next mission won't be so impossible in time - I'm still itching to add more and more...
@aidan-and-seb yeah, it was funny to see similar concept executed in very different ways - you in 3d, other guy with single screen pixel art...
The idea of unstable controls is one of more interesting takes on theme I've seen so far.
you've nailed that PSX look perfectly
Interesting idea, although I wasn't able to build too high, my tower building skills are sorely lacking.
Hezký nápad s žádostà o dalšà jazyk do komentářů.
Lol :) game might be simple, but the description is excellent :) Last time i was playing as an earthquake was 30 years ago in Sim City and this is definitely better earthquake roleplaying simulator :D
one of the problems is that mouse hover hints don't seem to work correctly - sometimes they just blink, sometimes no matter how slow i move the cursor to check the unit or wait the hint won't get shown. the concept seems nice, but the execution is a bit chaotic, due to usually missing hints. I did manage on third attempt to get the demons to occupy the castle.
Note - play and rate some games, guys, don't be surprised you have only few rates - you still have some time to move up in the list for people doing last attempt to save games from the danger zone
heh, I've chosen same way for intepreting the theme, although I did it "russian way". Trust me, I'm an engineer.
Comrades, am sad to report dat my stomach iz not stronk enough for dis job. Or possibly am too drunk for it. Here, have some vodka with me!
The postprocessing stack you've used, especially motion blur, really was a bit too much for me. I generally don't have any problems with kinethosis, but after few minutes of running around I started to feel like in a badly optimized VR game...
heh, this is clever take on classic, could be rather addicting. looking forward for the postjam version.
@lucasvb thank, bookmarked for later - I do want to get some more rating done
for some reason doesn't work in chrome - first run command does nothing (works on on Firefox)
funny idea, but my old windows 7 hates it. original version wasn't working at all (didn't react on arrow keys), version 1.01 works, sort of but it leaves traces on the screen so after few moments I have no idea what's game and what's artifact from the windows gui rendering failing
How do I start game in the web version? Only tutorial seems to be available. BTW Pausing the game with a tutorial text in the middle of the jump is really annoying.
@jabsatz: tried reloading - in firefox I know have press space to start and the game runs. on chrome, even if I do the tutorial, after it ends it shows press space to tutorial. (but I've seen weird errors like this in the damn chrome in more entries, I'm now using firefox for playing everything)
As another cosmo engineer I fully approve your hard work, comrade!
Ah... took me several attempts to find the damn hand :] good job
My Chrome doesn't want to run the game and reports "There is a problem with this story's 1st script: SecurityError: Failed to read the 'sessionStorage' property from 'Window': Access is denied for this document. Error: Failed to read the 'sessionStorage' property from 'Window': Access is denied for this document."
No problem with Firefox though, first I became supersecret agent, than I infiltrated the program and destroyed the analyzer.
If I try to run it, I get "api-ms-win-core-path-l1-1-0.dll is missing" and than "error loading python.dll..." - the temp folder doesn't contain the api-ms... dll, trying to place it in the folder with the game doesn't help - so what I need to install to get it running?
On first attempt, when I hit the key, I got black screen and game stopped responding. Managed to push it to the key hole on second attempt, but couldn't find second key in the next area.
Excelent pixel art and overal mood, well done.
Briliant idea. So far the best game I've seen in LD50
@mhm32167 thanks - I was frustrated that I cant control the damn car :)
This is pretty good use of the theme - you can just find a way to the next part, or try to run around as much as you hope.
I managed to get the double center. Fooled around with it a bit, but I got annoyed by my inability to control the mouse as I wanted :) (this might be a lot more interesting / controllable on a touch device)
@austin-sierra it still fascinates me how much time I can burn away with something so simple and essentially stupid :)
While the overal mood and audio visual look great, from gameplay point of view: I bought a ticket. waited. waited. another train passed by. My train was delayed. I walk around, sometimes hear some weird noise, than somone knocked down the mop. I wait. I wait more. I run around. I die.
Very impressive, even for a larger team. Going to save this one for later, to try to find how to actualy beat it :) (the only problem I have is that although I have sort of economics running, after few tries, I still don't know how to actually push my warriors in areas where I need them...
Yeah, got the postal vibes too :)
Nice art. BTW took me a while to realize that I don't have to aim fireballs and that all I have to do is run around and try to dodge...
I think I understand how it's supposed to work, but inability to disable miners, especially since they're no longer mining, makes it rather hard to guess how to balance stuff to keep for as long as possible.
It's funny, but I really wouldn't call this a game. One definition of the game (can't remember who said that) I like is that "game is a series of interesting choices". Here I have essentially two - keep clicking button, or close the game ;)
An interesting concept, but it the end it's just defend everything from start, then defend only important cities, then die. only spies add some more mechanics, but there are only 3, so the gameplay is a bit too simple and the death inevitable.
Nice one :) I suck at it in a same way I suck at this situation in a real life, but still, nice game :D
Pretty cool idea and good execution, although the screen effects would probably made my eyes hurt over time.
Audio/video and mood is very good, but the gameplay is a bit too simplistic to be fun.
the basic concept is nice, but in the end you're essentially walking in one direction and pressing E to heal the crack when you encounter it and go on until after some time you don't get quickly enough to a fault (got to about 110 with this mindless tactics)
Controls are very unresponsive. BTW on first attempt no new skeletons spawned, there was just one following me around (maybe two at the same place and collision didn't register?)
Interesting idea combining cards and rail drawing. If it wasn't built around the theme "sooner or later you're going to fail, it might be base of rather interesting strategy game.
Happily burned forever after
Interesting idea, but I just couldn't get my head around the controls. Wonky unresposive movement of the character, no idea if i'm using quick time events correctly, just got confused...
It's heavy metal, so it must be good and from the art pov it definitely is. Audio deserves at least 5 and half stars. As a game it fails a bit, few clicks and music minigame. BTW I got stuck a bit there, cause I automatically expected that I have to press keys on keyboard / expected I have to press them at specified time, not just in correct sequence.
@woona: I actually added flying enemies in the last hour before submission, wasn't sure I'll be able to hack something quick enough :D
@lukuluk: as usual, I took LD as an opportunity/excuse to try a little prototype for a game I'd like to make one day when I'll have enough time to work on it. BTW vertical axis should be available in escape menu, at least in the standalone exe.
@henk when you press escape, there's "invert mouse Y" toggle
@henk my bad - version uploaded directly to LD site doesn't have this setting, it's only on itch, forgot to update LD site, it was addition at the last moment.
Heh, a tetris with physics :)
The only thing I'd change is that corpses still have collisions, otherwise great little game :D sort of top down 2d Gorn.
The idea is actually very good, but when it comes to actual gameplay later... the drag and drop control is too slow and require too much precision to be actually enjoyable. The trains either had to be slower or the controls need to be reworked.
Heh, it's a simple top down shooter at the base, but that idea with missing RAM and the ending on the disk 2 made it one of the best entries I've seen so far :D
gameplay is classical puzzle, but I like the setting you used for it. eat all the grass!
I almost gave up several times before I found the solution. If you hadn't provided the hints and final screen, I would have given up ;)
This would deserve a post jam version with a bit longer story. The growing in the later stages becomes a bit chaotic, I felt like I couldn't just do it, and missed few quotas, but it's a nice concept.
Excellent audio. I wasn't able to finish on second try, bookmarking for later for possibly another one.
The visuals and mood are perfect, but gameplay wise... dunno. I almost gave up several times out of boredom walking around and copying files. The moment when I had also start the antivirus seemed like there might be something happening, but I just copied remaining files like a good company drone and safely escaped... I've bookmarked it for later in case I'll give it another try and break something (thought I'm not sure what I could do except delete files randomly or don't run virus scanner).
Pretty good, the concept might be enough for a bigger game as it is, with just some improvements and additions.
The start was deceptive simple, but then the bullet hell came and it become faster and faster... nice use of theme , didn't expect the situation to escalate so quickly ;)
Audio-visualy it's very nice, one of the few entries I've rated 4+ for art/audio, but the gameplay is rather bland and boring, just give it few tries to orient yourself and you're done... except the last level where I gave it several tries until I realized I can just ignore everything and go straight for the bucket :)
Nice music
Very simple, but nicely working, first game I've rated high for humor because this stacking of fish just made me smile.
This is pretty cool concept, but you can usually win by just quickly spamming first soldier. What really annoyed me was the "2048" implementation - all those animations and enforced slowdowns made it feel clunky and unresponsive - if it was it at least a bit faster... (i might have played for longer :)
The utter chaos without any chance to keep track which character is mine... gave up after a while
An interesting concept.
The loooong dialogue at the start is extremely irritating - that's the reason I gave up after about dozen tries. I see potential here, but the only way to actually get by the angel seems to be getting your attack high enough to kill her in one shot and I just couldn't find a way to do it.
