LD23 — Tiny World

My Kid Dropped The Planet by MadGnomeGamer 2012-05-03T01:35:00

It would be nice to be able to look around the world to try and figure out the correct route-- there were a couple times I had to shoot blindly in a direction to see what was over there (hurting my precious little planet in the process). Great job overall, though-- funny, novel concept.

The Two of Us by scoopsy 2012-04-26T07:38:00

I think the game closes every time the character gets hit by a bullet. DESPITE THIS, I still found it quite hilarious (and both the jump physics and death animation were great). I quit shortly after getting past the first jump and realized that was probably the best I was going to do... it took quite a few attempts.

Farming Simulator by spacechase0 2012-05-01T05:11:00

Good basis for a game, though it definitely needs a little more variety/ a win condition (I have a hankering for a variety of vegetation).

Kao by NebulaOrbit 2012-05-01T05:05:00

I am having the same issues as Ranoka-- I seem to die inexplicably. However, the setting and art is great. Really like the feel of the game.

Poiesis by Them Games 2012-04-24T18:10:00

Very nice! I did experience some issues with the Mac version. The cursor does not consistently show up (as stated by aaronsnoswell), but I also had issues with the magnifier controls-- press 0 would toggle it on, but not off. I did get the cursor to show up eventually, though.

Who stole my pixels?!? by matheus23 2012-05-03T01:47:00

So, My first impressions were this:
Looks pretty cool. Hmm... Lots of instructions... Ok, playing game... crap, I don't remember most of the instructions. Restart game. Reread instructions. Get into game. Harvest the one tree on the island. Wait. Die.
Play again, harvest the one tree on the island. Wait. Die.
I then looked at comments here to find that you have to let a tree live so it will make more trees. After that, I played the game, let trees live, and had lots of fun, until the game restarted. I don't know why it restarted, maybe it's a bug, or maybe I pressed something, either way, I didn't mean to restart :(.

Anyway, I think the game would be awesome if there was an indication that trees will grow (did I miss it in the really long list of instructions?). Possibly have the trees grow right off the bat (because otherwise it's load the game, and immediately have to wait 15 seconds before you can do anything (at least with only 1 tree you can't do anything, because cut it down, and game over).

With some polish, I think it could be pretty good though!

Oh, also, with tons of turrets, it got really hard to see where I could place things because of the overlapping circles.

Corgi Recon Force by sirpalee 2012-05-01T05:22:00

Damn cute corgi sprite you have there. If only I could make that pixelized pooch my pet. Nice intro, as well! The platforming got a little boring (as there wasn't too much variety), but still quite nice!

World Saver! by Zythiku 2012-05-01T05:00:00

Initially played the web version, it did not work well. I'm on a macbook and the sensitivity was just too high. After I nixed that and tried native, it was pretty fun :)

Gnome Alone by Matt Rudder 2012-04-25T17:18:00

The camera not panning quickly enough definitely made it difficult to move around easily-- enemies slightly off-screen caused some issues (especially with the gas can power up :P). Still a fun concept though, good work!

Electron Cloud by Evilion 2012-05-01T05:11:00

Cool concept, but darn near impossible to play on a trackpad (unfortunately for me!)

Underfoot by zorf 2012-04-25T17:08:00

The squish noises definitely elicited a titter. One thing that was somewhat frustrating was standing directly on top of a single human trying to kill them-- perhaps both feet could go down if they are stopped? Also, the concept of this is almost exactly the opposite of our game :P.

Tiny Wor ds by BNeutral 2012-05-01T05:24:00

It was a pretty funny game if you searched for "Kanye".

Zombie Siege by Fsmv 2012-05-01T05:34:00

The bugs in the Windows jar file prevented me from moving :/.

The Great Adventure of Mr.Galaxis by TobiasNL 2012-05-01T06:08:00

Definitely very polished, but I agree about the controls... adds unnecessary difficulty to the game! Players should feel like they are in control :).

Teeming by DaveDobson 2012-05-01T06:01:00

Really nice, polished gameplay. Honestly, there should be more stuff like this that could raise interested in science and biology!

Red by olkeencole 2012-04-25T21:21:00

Nice work! The platforming was somewhat painful (specifically the areas that required the updraft). It would be nice to still have the mouselook while grappled on an object, though (in case you can't let go to look around). The theme really came together in the end.

Let's Go Moon by Transmit 2012-04-24T17:42:00

Good fun! I was somewhat confused by why my moon appeared to be shrinking while hitting some objects-- were those missiles being shot by the planets or somesuch?

PixDodge by whitebird 2012-05-03T02:06:00

Very hard to see the blue dot at times, otherwise I like it!

Tiny Shards by Gabriel 2012-04-24T19:46:00

Beautiful game. The art and background music were both highlights in a well-crafted submission. Thanks!

Around the World in 80 Seconds (or less) by gormio 2012-05-01T21:03:00

Nice job! I would recommend wonkifying the physics a bit more to increase the difficulty, but it is pretty fun as-is.

Tiny Island by Zathnic 2012-04-25T16:31:00

Really nice job on the puzzle aspect of it. Gradually introduced more puzzle elements-- good stuff!

A Drop of Water by canary40 2012-05-02T01:24:00

Good thing my speakers were up for that... ಠ_ಠ. What a short, sad life that creature lives. Eat a couple green blobs; die.

Lord Deadrock's Adventures by abstroke 2012-04-25T01:12:00

Nicely done concept. One thing that seemed a little strange was the large difference in resolution between the environment/ background sprites and the character and animals. Even with the discrepancy in resolutions, looks great!

Home is where the robots are. by greg20man 2012-04-25T04:55:00

The concept of a viking headbutting robots off of his island is pretty great-- thanks for the submission!

@kanye by Cakebread 2012-04-27T15:36:00

Awesome, hilarious work. The responses to tweets were great.

Light the Lighthouse by GranaDa 2012-04-24T18:50:00

Overall good work. The initial character drop is difficult for new players (it seems like you die for no reason, but there is just a short window in which you have to start pressing the space bar). The game is extremely difficult right now.

Jack Primus and the Adventure of Tiny Things by Wizered67 2012-04-26T19:36:00

Nice first entry. Definitely needed a bit more love in some areas... that boomerang got stuck everywhere! Boomerang obedience increase requested.

Tiny World Of Life by Tinco 2012-04-26T19:04:00

Fun simulation toy-- I forgot to record my score before closing the tab, but it got through quite a few cycles before terminating :P.

Redbeard the Borrower by jrasmussen24 2012-04-26T19:45:00

olkeencole (and many others), we tried the MouseOrbit camera controller and it doesn't work perfectly with the selecting objects. Buuuut, with some simple tweaks, we can add in both the MouseOrbit and gamepad support :P. If we put those in, we will put up some links to updated builds on our website.

Pale Blue Dot by tametick 2012-04-24T22:15:00

Pretty hilarious, honestly. There have been quite a few similar games in LD23, but the inclusion of Carl Sagan had me laughing.

Tiny World Racer by Kinokochan 2012-04-26T20:00:00

Nice entry! I did experience some strangeness with the tracks (sometimes I would go through the track, hitch, then end up back on the track), but overall a pretty nice game. The addition of some physics/ handling to the vehicles would be marvelous.

Lemming Apocalypto by 10WonXero10 2012-04-25T04:41:00

Music was fun, and the gameplay mechanic felt somewhat novel (I was surprised when I didn't die after hitting an enemy). Good work!

Dude, where's my planet by Zamando 2012-04-25T01:23:00

Great style going on with this. The aesthetics and music are beautiful-- the game mechanic seems a bit overdone within LD23, but you guys executed it perfectly.

World runner by Gunmonkey 2012-05-01T05:41:00

Good concept, I love the Canabalt type games, but there are a few things that would help it go a long way.
It would be great if you equated mousedown time with jump strength. Sometimes I knew I needed a short jump, but there was no way to do so.
Another thing that might go a long way would be caching clicks for a few fractions of a second so that if I hit jump just before hitting the ground I would still jump. Might help some of the missed jumps.
Otherwise, solid game!

My Little Dungeon by thegreystudios 2012-04-24T21:18:00

Awesome work. The game mechanic is quite fun (if just a bit slow) and would be even more fun if the types of rooms were expanded upon a bit/ balanced a little more.

Little Biyubi by edbadiux 2012-04-25T04:51:00

Nice submission. The walk speed was difficult to deal with (as I had to restart quite a few times-- it felt painfully slow at the end). At the same time, the slow move speed helped with the jumps. I did get stuck in the floor, as well, but meh... collision problems happen :P.

Rally Mites by siasia 2012-04-26T21:34:00

Nicely done! Kind of seemed like a strange mashup of the SNES Biker Mice From Mars racing game and SimAnt.

Serendipity with Cubes by halogenica 2012-04-30T05:29:00

I ran into some crashes preventing me from getting too far. Great game concept, though, from what I got to play :).

Giant Wizards from the Outer Rim! by tompudding 2012-05-01T20:59:00

Killed one of my rival wizards... but it crashed shortly thereafter :P. Still, good basis for a turn-based strategy.

Circus Flea by Ted Brown 2012-04-25T16:56:00

Great work-- quite humorous concept. The audio really sold it for me. I only made it to performance 8/10 (my fingers are just not nimble enough), but that was a really solid game.

Lady Bug!!! by Nightsjester 2012-04-26T21:30:00

The style was really nice. Needs to add a little more impetus for the player to continue, though-- just collecting all of the hearts was not very compelling. Very nice work nonetheless though!

Tiny World Adventure by PabloAM 2012-04-25T16:20:00

I enjoyed it, I wish there was a bit more, but such is the downside of the 48 hour compo. The jump noise made me quickly hit mute though.

Pieces by john_conder9 2012-04-24T22:34:00

Camera control was pretty difficult (and made it a lot easier to miss jumps). If the character could hover ever so slightly (or otherwise change their direction during a jump) that would help a lot.

Tiny World Civiliaztions by Square Particle 2012-04-27T15:52:00

I was kind of confused that I could control all of the nations, but it was a fun toy/ simulation to play with :P.

Tiny World! by unicornpooping 2012-04-25T05:53:00

Lots of content in there, especially considering the time limit. Really nicely done!

Planet Gravity by Jens Nolte 2012-04-24T18:58:00

I am getting a crash for both the 1.0 and 1.1 versions of the game on Win 7 Pro 64 :( (tried fullscreen and windowed with and without an Xbox controller).

Earth Is Dying! by Attrition 2012-04-25T05:23:00

Great concept, it would be great to see it expanded upon. Just needs a little post-compo TLC.

INSANE MEGASNAIL PENETRATION by SukiSan 2012-04-24T22:47:00

Good work! Really fun concept. Got a bit of slowdown during the game on OS X, but still... MEGA SNAIIIL.

The Elves end the Shoemaker by Nora Shishi 2012-04-24T02:14:00

I was too stupid to figure out to punch the shoelace panel. Good work overall.

Collect ALL the resources by Vladp995 2012-04-25T05:39:00

Challenge accepted! The tower has been completed. The biggest challenge was the framerate dropping off a cliff partway to the 10000 resources-- still a good base for a game. Thanks for submitting!

Bunny Cube by Sebby 2012-04-24T02:20:00

Pretty fun, though it seemed like there were some level screen transition bugs. Not much replayability.

I Heart Ludum Dare by Kayamon 2012-04-25T06:07:00

Wonderful game. Really well constructed-- the game controlled perfectly. Lovable little character, too. Great work.

Tiny Ranger by Monkey Armada 2012-04-24T21:38:00

Nice artwork and atmosphere for the game, just needs a bit more enemy complexity/ difficulty if the game were to be expanded beyond the first level. Great work!

Biodome by 7Soul 2012-04-24T02:36:00

Lowered the overall score as I got stuck (I could not figure out how to control the taller male character/ switch characters). Otherwise everything else was great.

Hamster Bowling by tfendall 2012-05-02T01:32:00

Pretty funny-- the gameplay could use some spicing up, but it was fun to the see the content anyhow.

Tiny Domination by Daz 2012-04-24T18:02:00

Overall well executed concept. Nice work. I did have some issues getting the right click to attack to register in the browser version, but it triggered often enough!

Save Me by chinchang 2012-04-24T18:17:00

Fun, compact submission. Some driving music would have drawn the user in a little more-- try to cram that in next time :).

Scorched Earth by Jungorend 2012-04-25T06:19:00

The user interface was somewhat confusing, and it would have been nice to be able to hold down the arrow keys to move the cursor rather than tap tap tapping :P.

Astronautics by Corné Dorrestijn 2012-04-26T20:26:00

Pretty fun game, though I agree with a couple of the previous comments. It would be nice to prevent the rocket from launching before the planet is in view (I lost several times while completely confused about what was happening). Other than that, good work!

Most of us live in a tiny world by jeffz 2012-04-25T05:06:00

On a mac: Heard sound, but it was just a blank white screen unfortunately!

Aloft by Mark Ffrench 2012-04-24T05:07:00

The inability to easily upgrade/ build via hotkeys made the gameplay somewhat frustrating (money would normally fall off of the edge in order to build/ upgrade). Having hotkeys would make the players feel like they had more control and keep their cursor focusing on acquiring money and defending their base.

Path O' Invasion by ratboy2713 2012-04-24T18:26:00

The inputs made it difficult to control your units, especially when you have a small army to move. If you could select multiple units at once using a left click drag, that would be marvelous. The addition of some background music (like a simple snare drum cadence) would be great!

LittlePlanetBigRocket by daredevildave 2012-04-24T02:10:00

Frustrating difficult spike.

Pale Blue Dot by KevinWorkman 2012-04-25T04:35:00

I love the inclusion of Carl Sagan-- provided a hilarious juxtaposition to the bashing of celestial bodies.

Ant Slayer by Kharza 2012-04-26T18:28:00

The look controls were really sensitive while using the Xbox controller-- if this could be adjusted, that would be great :P. Otherwise, it is a pretty solid start (especially in just 48 hours).

Submarine: This Ain't Your Momma's Bathtub, Tovarisch by kibertoad 2012-04-24T20:05:00

The text was hilarious, but the pacing with the text felt a little too awkward/ broken up (I really just wanted to continue to guide my units). Good work, though!

TinyQuest by Zesh26 2012-04-24T18:33:00

Needs a bit more work! The addition of some sound effects and background audio would help the atmosphere. In addition, it was difficult to jump up and to the right at the same time-- the jump executed so quickly. It would be nice if there were a couple extra frames for the jump animation.

Intertubes by Jack 2012-04-24T19:05:00

Nice work on some of the smaller details (such as the knockback and effects when a bullet collides with one of the enemies). I would definitely like some rockin' background music to listen to while playing this, though.

The Battle Of Tiny Earth by Pixel Shield 2012-04-24T18:41:00

I had the same difficulties as uprightpath-- as soon as I build a building, the game becomes extremely slow and unresponsive. The towers do not seem to fire effectively (the enemies stampeded right over them).

Tiny World Defense by Whoosy 2012-05-02T16:50:00

Needed a bit more polish! Good work overall, though.

Our Small World by TellusE 2012-04-24T21:31:00

Good concept, seemed like it just needed a bit more time-- I did have some issues with z-sorting, as well (the text boxes would often be shown underneath other buildings). I was using Chrome for the playthrough.

Archipelago by scottychips 2012-04-24T23:00:00

Fun concept and a nice style to it. Adding in an antagonist (or even having natural disasters forcing the player and villagers to fix the land) would be great.

Pixels World by Zerod 2012-04-27T05:43:00

Pretty solid, I dug the music. I was a little thrown off when the screen zoomed in (I think it was just the big blocks that zoomed maybe?)
Anyway, good game!

Tiny world survival by Dracir 2012-04-25T04:58:00

Unfortunately also crashed for me about 20 seconds in all 3 times I tried it. I'm on a macbook here. Seems like a cool game, though the reticle was a bit hard to see.

A day in your Life by superstu 2012-04-25T06:13:00

Took me a bit to understand the gist of the game (I hadn't read your comment about returning to the map corners), but it's a fun little game. Thanks for submitting!

Invasion Of Tiny World by gregdevice 2012-04-25T04:24:00

Great atmosphere. The legs moved a little too slowly for my tastes. It would make it a bit more frantic if you could use the laser while taking a step, as well.

Congratulations Doc, it's a shrink ray! by De10ter 2012-04-24T19:09:00

That game mechanic is spectacular. You should expand upon this base :). Also (I think my comments for most games say this) add in some bouncy background music to match the atmosphere!

Restless Island by Homletmoo 2012-04-27T15:52:00

The mechanics felt decent, but there was no real indication off the bat what I was supposed to be doing. Eventually I worked out that I was supposed to be collecting coins and I could jump off walls, that made it a bit better.
Unfortunately though, this was a bit large for my monitor (1280x800 macbook), so I could never really see the whole game. On top of everything, running in Chrome, I was prompted every 15-20 seconds to "Kill page or Wait".

Pivotation by KingKay 2012-05-01T05:46:00

Good submission. I did have some difficulties with the jump registering in some situations (if I was rotating the world, sometimes it would thing the character was falling and they wouldn't jump). Other than that, very nice!
