LD23 — Tiny World

This is You by RAMzuiv 2012-04-29T03:23:00

Ended up not playing because there's no executable to download. Hopefully this is helpful in letting you know that an executable is the most important part of submitting :). I encourage you to try to get it compiled and upload - folks are still voting!

These Tiny Planets are mean by Ragepyro 2012-04-29T03:43:00

Fun little puzzle game. At first I wasn't sure what I needed to do until I absorbed one of those weird tiny planets. That's what it gets for dissing my mum!

Supercell by Nick Cash 2012-04-29T03:37:00

Pretty solid, but gets a little repetitive. I like that you had a detailed instruction screen and changed the goal occasionally (from survival to kill x number of enemies). Overall pretty fun.

Finger Attack by Toko 2012-04-29T03:56:00

A fun concept. I was excited to play it - a new take on tower defense. However, the first play-through the finger straight up disappeared, and the second and third times the finger slowly moved down off the screen. All three times it made the finger unbeatable. I also wasn't sure what the farmers and workers did. I never saw them appear.

I think the game would have been fun and the concept was really cool. It bugged out, though, so I didn't get a chance the finish a round.

Killer the Ant by Ben 2012-05-03T05:44:00

Nicely done. It's simple, but the most important part is that it's a complete game. It was fun to beat. Damn humans always stepping on my ant friends! He deserved the dildo in his toenail.

ADAM by philcsf 2012-04-29T04:17:00

A good start to your game jam career. Using a third party tilemap app for levels is a good time-saving idea, and you now have the basics for creating a 2D game. Looking forward to see how you progress for the next ludum dare. Keep it up!

Microbial by LukeRissacher 2012-04-29T08:33:00

Great game! I played 37 levels before my battery ran out and I had to quit. I'll likely play again to see how many levels there are. I can't say that for a lot of games entered in the compo. Well polished and a lot of game play squeezed out of a few simple and fun mechanics. Well done.

Battle of the Worlds by bigbass1997 2012-05-03T06:05:00

Damn you. You tapped into my need to gain arbitrary experience and level up. I ended up fighting that lifeless red planet a dozen times before I quit.

Not sure why a world is roaming around a grass field eating fruit and mushrooms. It seemed like the theme was forced. It was hard to tell where I was trying to go, too.

All-in-all, a good effort. I'm glad you had fun and hope it was a good learning experience. Java skills will go a long way :).

Doctor! by ak1011 2012-04-29T04:23:00

Looks like you're not reading comments, but I figured I'll add another one. The file links to one's local filesystem "file:///C:/Users...". You should upload it to a file hosting site. Try a free trial of dropbox or something.

Tiny Shards by Gabriel 2012-04-29T07:47:00

Wow-ee-wow! Very well done. I love that graphics style, and the polish you were able to put into this in 72 hours is amazing!

The Legend of Silicon by rodrigosf 2012-04-29T03:18:00

I fought off a few waves of robots, laid a few mines, and wandered around until the game froze. When I went to kill the frozen process, I noticed it was using 320 MB of memory.

I wasn't sure what the goal was. Was there a limited number of enemies that would come at me?

Pretty good for a weekend. With some more instruction on what the goal of the game is and some more polish, this would be fun. Keep at it!

Squish by mailman105 2012-05-03T05:52:00

Funny and fun. I found it a bit buggy in that I couldn't get to one of the apples and another apple wouldn't allow me to pick it up when I ran over it. It was a cool concept, though.

I would also suggest making it only squish the mini dudes when you're jumping down. I kill a bunch of them when jumping up and ended up losing for that.

Hungry Ants by Dew 2012-05-01T02:03:00

Cool game. I created one of each kind of room and had some workers going out consistently, but didn't see my food stores rising and I couldn't figure out how to feed the queen. I'm sure given some more time I could figure it out. Either way, this was a neat concept and fit the theme well. Good job!

War's Body by tintounn 2012-04-29T04:29:00

Fun little platformer. I would have appreciated a restart button to start a level over, but I gave it a few tries and eventually beat it. I wasn't sure how it fit the theme or why the mountains popped up right before I got to them, but once I figured it all out, it was entertaining. It made me want to restart the program to beat it.

Escape From Dungeons by Neurox66 2012-04-29T07:04:00

This reminded me of wolfenstein 3D or doom from back in the day. The controls were good and the music was cool, but I could not find my way out of the dungeon for the life of me. I couldn't tell if I was going in circles or making progress. Nice implementation of a simple maze in a 3D game in a weekend!

Astro Gardener by HeyChinaski 2012-05-01T23:43:00

This was really fun! I like the procedurally generated world that's created as you add pieces. I had a lot of fun playing this one, but I wish the meteors were closer to the planet to start or you could carry more than one piece at a time. A lot of the beginning involved floating around searching for meteors (and running into those red aliens :)).

SheNanoGans by visionpol 2012-04-29T04:09:00

I thoroughly enjoyed this, even though there was no gameplay :P. I couldn't find anything to do but blow myself up - "Boom baby!", but the dialogue and goofy graphics were hilarious!

Your game and ours share a similar style in that it was mostly video and ridiculousness, which is probably why I enjoyed yours so much. I didn't do this on any other comment, and I'm reluctant to link in a comment, but I think you'll enjoy this, given your sense of humor - www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-23/?action=preview&uid=3275.

A Drop of Water by canary40 2012-05-02T00:30:00

Ha! Scared me a bit the first time. The controls seemed really sensitive to me, so it made it hard to collect enough green orbs, but it was fun. I definitely tried 5 or 6 times since it was so easy to retry.

Cage by epicSpeedTurtle 2012-04-29T03:04:00

I figured it out and saved Hank, but it took faith. There was a little feedback with the exercising when it says "I feel strong!" and "So close!", but there was no indication that the food or sleep did anything. I guessed that I needed to sleep between, and eat before exercising based on the initial dialogue. With that said, the mood was great and I like what you did with such a limited set of pixels - minimalist-chic. It was pretty polished. You chose your scope well.

love in the time of fishbowls by otaviogood 2012-05-03T05:36:00

Simple, but fun - the definition of elegance. Nicely done.

WTF LEMME OUT!!! by aquasheep 2012-05-02T02:46:00

Nerd cred for using python. First text-based game I've played this compo - a nice throwback to zork. I wish there was more than one room, but it was funny.

Circuit by moltanem2000 2012-05-01T23:51:00

Pretty damn good for 6-7 hours. Simple, but entertaining. It's always good when you play a game that makes you feel like you're learning the game as you go, and you feel like it's your fault when you die rather than the game's. Fun entry.

Chisana Saga by Neonlare 2012-05-01T01:40:00

Awesome entry! Nice job for 48 hours. Very retro feel. Takes me back to the original zelda. It was pretty hard off the bat. If you're gonna develop this further I'd suggest starting a little easier and ramping up the difficulty as you go.

Tiny Civ by Impossible 2012-05-02T01:04:00

Awesome concept. It's pretty easy to fall off, so I found that I died more from that than the other player, but I liked the leveling up aspect. It's like an evolved version of that versus mode in the original mario.

Age of Antpires by Dezzles 2012-05-02T00:40:00

Fun concept. Like settlers of catan with more tiles. It froze for me as well. I had to experiment to figure out what the different resources do and what each thing costs. With some instructions, balance, and fixed AI, this would be a fun game to play and master.

Shorted Out by HybridMind 2012-05-03T05:15:00

Cool game. Fun concept and good graphics. I think it'd be a little more tense/fun if the ball rolled faster with really tight controls, giving you the ability to really master the game. As it is it's great, though. Nice job with your first game in unity in 48 hours!

Pro Stew Chugger by Tourgen 2012-05-02T01:42:00

Simple, but pretty fun. I played the compo version and it always ended up auto-shooting for me after the first room. Made it easier, but took away some of the fun. I also couldn't figure out which door spawned a new room - it just happened randomly at some point. Sounds like a lot of these things are fixed in the later version, but I thought it'd be fair to play the compo version for rating.

BamSquitch by Valeour 2012-05-02T00:54:00

Good job! This was fun and required some thought to solve. Lots packed into a few mechanics.

World of doors by anthonyl 2012-05-02T03:44:00

Can't play cause I don't have OS/X - sorry!

My First World by Dark Acre Jack 2012-05-01T01:34:00

The graphics, mood and music were great! It was interesting to figure out how to play. It wasn't intuitive to click on the little guys right away, possibly just because I didn't have it in fullscreen and they were so tiny :). Fitting for the theme. Nice job in 48 hours.

Tiny Failures by whitetigle 2012-05-02T02:33:00

Very nice! I like the graphics and the gameplay is fun. I like that you ramp up the gameplay as a form of tutorial in addition to the story at the beginning.

12 Days in a Snow Globe by derdragon 2012-05-02T03:21:00

Cool game. I played it until I essentially beat it, which I can't say for all other entries I played. I ended up buying all the seeds, harvesting them, selling them, and then buying all of the gifts each day. I couldn't tell if there is a winning state. I got to day 9 before I stopped, since it seemed like it was repeating forever. But the fact that I kept going that far is a testament to the game.

It was really polished. There were a lot of little things that made it a fully polished game. One thing that I couldn't help notice is that it was in-your-face sexist. The woman chills at home waiting for designer shoes, chocolates, romance novels, and other shiny stuff. Why does she need that stuff on a farm? Just saying.

This Planet Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us by Cidolfas 2012-05-02T01:32:00

Pretty fun, but got repetitive. The hint to tap and hover was helpful.

Bright Worlds by johnfn 2012-05-02T03:43:00

Cool, original concept. The lighting thing was cool, but as you said, processor intensive. So it was a bit sluggish for me (i7-2639QM 2.0 Ghz laptop, 6GB ram running win7). Overall it was fun to move the lights around and try to get from room to room without losing my "sanity". The controls were a bit touchy when moving boxes and lights around, so it was hard to get them exactly where I wanted, and even once I got the boxes on the switches, if I came back into the room it would reset, so I'd have to replace the boxes. I see why the lights reset, but it'd be nice to keep the boxes on the switches (assuming that's the winning case). I admit I didn't have the patience to try and solve the whole thing - sorry! Couldn't figure out how to get light into one of the areas.

Overall - really original and fun. Good job!

Hamster Damn by Valandre 2012-04-29T02:37:00

It was fun and addictive once I realized what to do. I like that you can extend the daylight by jumping to the sun. It gives the game enough depth to make me want to retry and beat my score. The art was polished too. A job well done for a weekend.

With difficulty levels, music, more collectibles, etc you could have a marketable game.

Hamster Bowling by tfendall 2012-04-26T04:21:00

@TheGamingProject, strega and Cake&Code - Thanks for playing and commenting! We certainly were trying for something that had no one would expect, and had a lot of fun adding all the non-gameplay stuff (e.g. the rap song and the video). The gameplay was pretty much done the first night :). Hope you had fun with it!

Hamster Bowling by tfendall 2012-04-26T04:24:00

(edit for the above comment) - that should have read "... that no one would expect".

Hamster Bowling by tfendall 2012-05-14T02:50:00

Thanks everyone for all the awesome comments! We're so glad you guys enjoyed it.

@Tomalla - I updated your paste on pastebin with the lyrics. Have fun: http://pastebin.com/6tJXeUTY.

We're going to need another Gnomy! by Ghoul159 2012-05-01T23:32:00

Pretty funny and fun. The art was cool. I like the hand-drawn style. The only problem is that you don't gather fame as fast as the enemies come, so it becomes unbeatable quickly.

Planetline by SSJMetroid 2012-05-02T03:48:00

couldn't play cause it just went fullscreen and showed a black screen.

Through the Blue Sea by Sandcrawler 2012-05-02T03:55:00

It was cool that you procedurally generated the levels. At least it's new each time. That said, the gameplay was lacking and the sound effects were pretty abrasive. Good effort - keep it up!

First Import by iximeow 2012-05-03T05:28:00

I loved the voice acted sound effects :). It was a fun concept, but it was hard to tell which were bad and which were good missiles/ships, so I ended up dying a lot cause I couldn't tell which missiles to avoid. It probably just took some more patience to figure it out. All-in-all, a fun strategy entry into the compo.

tiny world war by Jonny D 2012-05-01T01:51:00

Fun concept! I just played with AI, but playing with friends would likely be a blast. With some improved graphics, AI, and controls this would be a game I'd want to play over and over. Like vigrid said, this would be fun on Xbox.

Hive by ericdpitts 2012-05-02T00:46:00

Fun one! I didn't realize I could hold shift til after I played. That would have helped to line up my shot. Either way it was entertaining and different from other games I've played from this compo.

Planet Run by minism 2012-05-03T06:11:00

It was a cool concept and seemingly a good implementation, except it was crazy hard. I couldn't get past the second level after many attempts. I jumped over the first lizard a couple times, but I had to time it down to the millisecond. If I got the first lizard, the second one always got me. It could be that I was missing something.

caveman defending his cave from aliens while monoliths drop down from the sky by bms 2012-04-29T07:14:00

Nicely done. It's polished, fun, and addictive. The variety of weapons made it fun to replay.

It took me a sec to figure out how the game ended, but once I figured it out it made sense. Sometimes I wish I could keep the previous weapon rather than switching once I got a new monolith. The sword was the best since it could swing a lot faster than the gun or rocket launcher could fire.

All in all, a really fun game. Especially for a weekend of dev.

Tiny World Adventure by Pavel M. Dlouhý 2012-05-01T01:18:00

Very interesting idea. I have to admit I had a hard time with the level with the enemy until I read your hint.

What was your motivation for creating a virtual machine? Are you planning on developing this further and releasing it as a platform for others?

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Deepsea Frenzy by kong-chuen 2014-05-01T19:09:00

There seems to be a lot of strategy that isn't apparently evident in the gameplay, in terms of dodging projectiles, picking where to shoot, and horizontal placement. I quite enjoyed it!
