Pretty cool and impressive for 48 hours. I did not get the true spirit of the game yet, but i´ll play a litle longer.

i liked it! the art was good, especially in the scenes. i didn't get too far but i'm gonna play this more a bit later.
Nice job getting all of this together! I especially loved the music. It definitely needs some adjustments on the difficulty curve and how you can control your character (The Auto-Magic, oddly enough, I found difficult to adjust to.) but I did enjoy the level up shop when you die to help compensate for that. Good job!
The game gets very difficult very fast, since enemies spawn continuously in the area you're in and the game (apparently) keeps perfect track of where all the enemies are. An hour in, the opening area is always moving at a crawl because there are so many enemies, because I've spent so long there grinding, and now getting to any of the other areas is very hazardous. Consider either lowering the monster spawn rate, wiping an area when the player leaves it, or making areas smaller so that it's easier to clean up clutter. The caves worked very nicely, because any given area wouldn't fill up with monsters too fast.
Also, when I touched the save point in the cave, my avatar froze and wouldn't accept movement input anymore. I could still switch magic types, but I was stuck in position and couldn't even turn. It's a shame, because I had just gotten a story segment too.
Oh damn! That's really something I wish I had spotted before!
I think I know why those issues happen now, but I can't edit the entry now sadly, it would be a bit of cheating :(. I really want to revisit this though to get a more polished version out with improved music and graphics and gameplay, sometime soon too I hope! Sorry for all the bugs in it, I had 3 minutes before the due-deadline, it really was a rush! Thanks for playing it, I'll be sure to fix these issues when I can.
enemies should despawn when out of a certain border but the code doesn't seem to want to run it, which is a bit worrying, as for the Save Points issue, it may be due to the problem that save points aren't being recognized as dense objects, so the player is getting stuck within them. If so, that's particularly worrying, I'm not sure if the Save Objects are exactly 16 pixels wide, but if they are maybe they can still be used to save if you move into them horizontally only.
This was really a hefty experiment on my part, I wanted to see if I could get a medium length ARPG done for Ludum Dare within it's time limit, and whilst I got a game done it's certainly not very well optimized. I would definitely focus more on the Optimization process more next time, but that's just learning from experience I guess!
Thanks for the comments guys, definitely keeping these all in mind! I do like revisiting games, so I may post a continuation/rejigged version of this eventually on LD at some point.
Nice complete RPG. Amazing that you pulled that off in 48h. Reminds me off the old Zelda's or FF's.
The automagic system is interesting. The game is really hard really fast though.
good for 48 hours
Fun and seems quite detailed for the time allotted. It was difficult to fight effectively at the start - maybe not quite so many enemies early on to let people get a feel for it. The beepy slow text looked cool initially and felt retro, but it got annoying pretty fast. Fun and polished - Nice work!
Clever! *Really* like the mechanic of only having to equip a spell, and it auto-casting when you're near an enemy. Thanks for sharing!
The gameplay is a lot of fun! I would have bought a game like this for my old Nintendo system. Very difficult gameplay (I guess I'm just not used to it). Very nice nostalgic feeling.
Like the others said, this game gets hard quickly! The music was also broken for me in that every time I died it started a new track playing instead of restarting, so after 15 deaths it became unbearable.
All that aside, very impressive for 48 hours!
Awesome entry! Nice job for 48 hours. Very retro feel. Takes me back to the original zelda. It was pretty hard off the bat. If you're gonna develop this further I'd suggest starting a little easier and ramping up the difficulty as you go.
A shame I can't play it on my mac. :C
Great job! The auto-magic mechanic was a really interesting idea, I loved the graphical style as well. The difficulty was a bit too high for me, maybe a bit of balancing? It felt like enemies took too long to die, and the rewards for killing them were a bit too low. But, very nice job!
Great game! as have already been said is pretty challenging. It has great music and graphics that really give me the feeling of playing a NES game. The spell mechanics are really interesting.
Music and graphics were pretty cool. I'm not a fan of the auto-magic system. Seems like it'll be easier and more fun if I could just press a button to use magic. The range of all the spells were really short, making dodging enemies difficult.
