LD23 — Tiny World

My Kid Dropped The Planet by MadGnomeGamer 2012-05-01T03:12:00

Windows Defender didn't want me to play this game, but I bludgeoned it down so that I could play. Overall this game was very fun! I liked how you could choose to be good or evil for each level. The art and back story gave the game some humor, and the minor physics puzzleyness made it interesting and still somewhat fast paced. Overall, very well done.

Next time consider distributing a file that antivirus' don't hate though :P

Alien Archaeologist by jplur 2012-05-01T04:01:00

This was great! I enjoyed every bit of it. How was the music made?

Great work!

Cylcubere Origins by Birchmountain 2012-05-01T04:17:00

The web version was a little buggy, but other then that this was amazing :) The various responses made everything quite hilarious.

The voice getting quiet was a little obnoxious as I played the various shapes/colors, and it would have been nice to be able to skip his little intro, but that is just nitpicky. Well done!

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-05-01T02:51:00

So tiny! With some tweaking of the keyboard controls and maybe an option to make the screen bigger it would have been better, but still interesting.

Nanobot Rescue Team by Hegemege 2012-05-01T01:56:00

Fun and difficult. Loved the art style :) I really got a good sense of motion, and the flying red cells in the background were a great touch. I did find it a bit difficult to kill anything if a line of enemies made it to the edge since where I shot was based off of my direction instead of my mouse, but maybe I should just be better :P

Nineties Holywood Hacker by Casino Jack 2012-05-01T03:27:00

An excellent combination of puzzleyness and shooting. It was a little frustrating when you'd enter a zone and have no chance to avoid the little sprites that blew you up though. I really appreciated the controls and support for both diagonal movement and shooting.

The only way I see this getting better is to put some music behind it. Well done!

Drill It!: Demolition Co. by Julian Spillane 2012-05-01T04:31:00

Broke my Win8 setup pretty hard, but I suspect that is a Unity problem. Will try on Windows 7!

Planet Slightshot by Racura 2012-05-01T02:39:00

A fun concept with a cool visual style. Would have liked some background music or something, but not a big deal overall. Very nice for 48 hours!

Stade 2 (Mr.Oizo) by 30dogs 2012-05-01T05:08:00

Difficult, but also really fun and gorgeous.

Well done!

Stampede at the Crooked Thorax Ranch by mimshwright 2012-05-01T05:21:00

Very fun, and with great presentation! The cowboy art is priceless :)

Going Rogue by FrankieSmileShow 2012-05-01T05:01:00

Hilarious and fun. I loved playing this :)

Great job!

Chisana Saga by Neonlare 2012-05-01T01:34:00

Like the others said, this game gets hard quickly! The music was also broken for me in that every time I died it started a new track playing instead of restarting, so after 15 deaths it became unbearable.

All that aside, very impressive for 48 hours!

TinyFish by Werxzy 2012-05-01T02:33:00

This was surprisingly amusing. Would like to see more fish spawn, and maybe a little advice about killing the big monsters, but overall humorous and amusing for a few minutes.

Audio Land by triplefox 2012-05-01T02:57:00

Not sure how it fits in with Tiny World per se, but it was a very cool game none the less! I enjoyed playing around with it immensely. Well done.

Wulcan by leafo 2012-05-01T04:53:00

Fails when I press "Enter" to start on Windows 8 :(

Cloud Realm by Hempuli 2012-05-01T04:50:00

My guy kept dive bombing and I don't know why. First few goes were good, and restarting the game seemed to help somewhat for whatever reason. Either way, after bombing the big dragon guy a few times I got too frustrated with constantly dying for no real reason.

I love the look and feel of the game. The art is amazing, and the audio was great as well. For whatever reason I could not get the hang of flying, no matter how much I tried using A/D/W it seemed like my character really just wanted to fall from the sky. Then again, I'm on Windows 8, so I guess anything is possible.

In any event, nice work!

So You Want to Create a Game by Zyll 2012-05-01T01:38:00

Well, that was a thing.

Niña Nueve by Jonathan Whiting 2012-05-01T05:52:00

This game is the best I've played so far. Good music, interesting levels, great art style, no bugs. I'm amazed at the quality of your work!

Well done good sir.

Shoebox World by sanojian 2012-05-01T05:29:00

Had to read the other comments to realize you could harvest to get money, but after that it was quite good! Very easy, but still amusing and entertaining.

The world of Marceline by Pitoum 2012-05-01T03:54:00

Very interesting and different.

Core Buster by Maato 2012-05-01T03:45:00

I enjoyed what I got to play of this game, but it appears to have had some stability issues on my system. The windows version would not boot ("... has stopped working..."), so I played on Chrome and just after getting magma my hard stone went negative and the game stopped responding.

In any event, I enjoyed everything about this game. The space mining, dynamic planet generation, amusing space travel. I will definitely be revisiting on a different system to see if I can't play it for more than 10 minutes :P

Stranded by The Evil Cult 2012-05-01T05:18:00

I enjoyed this little game. Great art and no bugs! Complete with sound and credits. Well done!

Panopticon by kakuremino 2012-05-01T02:26:00

I enjoyed the mood, and the graphical style as very interesting. Lack of diagonal movement was a little annoying, but overall didn't matter too much. On my computer the movement was so slow it was hard to enjoy.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Bad Puppy by csanyk 2012-12-21T06:43:00

Any game that gets some real lolz irl is good to me :)

Cinders by Nick Cash 2012-12-18T02:27:00

Packaging right now. I'll update it shortly :)

Cinders by Nick Cash 2012-12-21T23:51:00

We did have plans to make humans that evaded you, but we didn't quite get that far. Also, all levels can be beaten, you just have to light fires in the right places :)

Attack of the Crimson Plumber by Dylan McCall 2012-12-21T07:07:00

Nice simple mechanics, and yet surprisingly challenging. Well done!

Regnant by phaze0 2012-12-21T06:28:00

As others have said, it is very hard to see on a 1080p monitor. Once I got the hang of the mouse controls I thought it was pretty neat :)

Mr Toothy by psychopsam 2012-12-23T08:24:00

I was hoping to play a shark game at some point! Alas, here it is and it was quite fun. This was definitely one of the more complete and enjoyable entries I've played so far. A few shark noises or screams and it would be complete!

I definitely think changing to keys instead of mouse driven like you did for the post-compo is a good choice, although the mouse control was quite functional.

Very nice work :)

Nosferatu by jerombd 2012-12-21T07:18:00

Interesting look. Would like to play more, but getting stuck on things was very frustrating since you are required to flip switches at certain times.

More Afraid of You by TomSmizzle 2012-12-21T07:25:00

The laugh during the buzzing was quite funny, I'm glad you didn't edit it out!

Skinner Box Simulator 2012 by Hemuuuli 2012-12-21T07:45:00

I just spammed the loan button and gained infinite sums of money. Am I doing it right?

In all seriousness, it is a pretty interesting idea with some fun details put in. It was definitely hard to tell what mixture of things resulted in a profitable game, but with infinite money from the loan glitch I was able to play around with many configurations.

A Villain Project by tmt_01 2012-12-21T07:49:00

Goat Trapped: True ... XD

Very amusing, although I found killing all of the humans to be more fun than trapping them.

A Chistmas Rebel by DDDBOMBER 2012-12-21T07:54:00

Great job! This was really fun :)

PsychoTherapist by char68 2012-12-21T06:59:00

Interesting concept. Took me a few tries to get what I was really doing, but once it clicked it was alright. Never really got far enough to see how evil I was supposedly being though.

Villain from Nooblord band by gwozdziu 2012-12-23T11:33:00

In the words of my Jam teammate:

A decent first attempt, but like others have mentioned I just kinda randomly clicked on stuff. It reminded me of minesweeper a little bit actually.

Raoul V. in You Are Ze Villain! by Grungi Ankhfire 2012-12-21T06:20:00

Again as others have mentioned, does not run on a 64-bit Win7 system.

Illegal Crime Game by angrygeometry 2012-12-21T09:02:00

This game was surprisingly endearing and addictive. Must be all that crime! Well done :)

Zombie Commander by Blinked 2012-12-21T06:39:00

Very nice! I definitely like the sort of "control the horde" concept.

Princess Keeper by lorancou 2012-12-23T03:08:00

According to my Jam team member Brian:

I like the cartoony feel, and find the concept pretty hilarious for some reason. It's surprisingly addictive considering how straightforward the concept is, and how the heck does physics even work in JavaScript?

That said it can drag at times, and I had a little trouble figuring out how close to the dotted line I could get the blocks. I lost a great many blocks to this. May their sacrifice not be forgotten!

Execution Chamber (Now a Jam entry) by Kaslai 2012-12-21T07:03:00

Suitable humorous and evil. Very amusing for a few minutes :)

LD26 — Minimalism

Squares In Space by Mozzo 2013-05-06T15:45:00

The art and the music fit together pretty well. I especially like the spaceship. However, you might try changing the help text color on level 1. Gray on orange is really hard on the eyes. Also, at the end you should add a replay button :)

8-Bit? 4-Bit! by Polar 2013-05-07T18:06:00

From my Jammate Brian: "The aforementioned collision-jump bugs have thus far prevented me from clearing what I suspect is the last level. The concept is pretty interesting though."

Toastergeist by Nick Cash 2013-05-06T16:46:00

@dertom - You can download the source and apt-get Pygame :)

Toastergeist by Nick Cash 2013-05-06T17:21:00

@dertom - We developed on a case-insensitive file system, so the letter case in the code isn't matching the letter case in the directory. Try renaming the images to be lowercase, or give me a minute and I'll push a fix :)

Toastergeist by Nick Cash 2013-05-06T17:32:00

@dertom - Okay, should be all fixed up in the repo. I'm not actually sure how that happened! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Let us know if you run into anything else :) Also, as you suggested, I added a comment at the top mentioning that the game is made with pygame. Hopefully that will get Linux users will play and rate as well.

Toastergeist by Nick Cash 2013-05-06T18:04:00

@Neonlare - Why doesn't it fit with the theme. Sure, we didn't pursue minimalism for art; instead we chose a minimalist object (toaster) and minimalist mechanics.

@dertom - Thanks for playing :)

Toastergeist by Nick Cash 2013-05-06T20:41:00

@Ryusui - How high the toast goes depends on how long it is cooked. Each item has four stages of toastedness. While they generally cook about the same each time, there are slight variations to how long each stage lasts for each item. You have to watch the toaster to make sure to launch it when it is toasted for optimal flight time. That is the tricky part because you have two toasters to manage and you are trying to guide your most recently launched toasted item through the air to the plate.

@naughtyloose - The plate does not move. Your goal is to guide the toast to the plate after you launch it.

Thanks for playing everyone!

Toastergeist by Nick Cash 2013-05-13T18:13:00

@Turtle - You can only control one piece of toast at a time, so before you launch your next piece you need to put your current toasted object on a trajectory towards the plate. If you are doing it quickly you can have many toasts in the air at the same time :)

goldmine by frosty 2013-05-06T16:17:00

From my Jammate Brian: "The minimal music and style were nice. The scanlines were a nice touch graphically. Fun to play through real quick."

Depletion by Riley Adams 2013-05-06T15:39:00

From my Jammate Brian: "First run I fell through the map floor. Subsequent runs went pretty well. I like the exploring aspect quite a bit. Found myself just wandering around for the heck of it earlier."

Tado Toss by PixelOaks 2013-05-07T18:28:00

I'm going to have to learn Unity. The stuff you can make with it so quickly is awesome! My friend and I played this for about ten minutes and enjoyed ourselves. The music is fitting and doesn't get annoying, the animations are great, and it has a good aesthetic. One of the few LD games I've played where I was legitimately amused for an extended period of time. Well done! :)

Paranoia Painter by Fadobo 2013-05-07T18:01:00

Congrats on your first entry! The game was fairly amusing. I felt like it controlled well and looked pretty good. Always nice to rate entries that have music and sound effects, though a longer music loop would be nice. Nice work :)

Disposable Rockets by the.vaber 2013-05-12T04:18:00

Impressive for the time frame. Certainly embraces the theme. Slightly more dynamic mechanics would be nice (such as momentum). Sounds :(

Psycho German Shepherd by FlashRocks 2013-05-12T04:10:00

Could use a little more polish. The difficulty scaling was a bit lacking. Needs some music. Aliens wouldn't hurt.

beTween by Benn 2013-05-12T04:15:00

Nice concept. Could be a little easier at first. It's nice to see unique concepts, this was really enjoyable. In-game instructs are always welcome. No sounds?!?

Phobius3 by Troyan 2013-05-06T17:44:00

This was a very interesting and very weird game. I mean that in a very nice way :) Good work.

H48SJ4, the MINIMIZING robot by Aifryz 2013-05-06T16:44:00

Well, it is definitely minimal. I like the animation of the robot and the visual style of the game, but there isn't much content. It could definitely use some sound as well. I also noticed that the robot always turns to face up/north any time I stop moving which is a little obnoxious. In any event, good effort on this one.

Rainbow Train by gosferano 2013-05-06T17:04:00

This was a fun game! My fingers are kind of tired now though. So much button pressing! It would definitely be nice of key repeats were on or levels were shorter. Music and sound effects would also be good.

Stem by KevinLaity 2013-05-12T04:24:00

Wow, a great entry. Audio is outstanding. Difficulty progression is very nice. Clever mechanics.

Mondrian by Kyle Bolton 2013-05-12T04:32:00

A very clever idea. Games which manage to be interesting with simple mechanics are uncommon.

Colors by oyster_crusher 2013-05-06T18:00:00

I enjoyed this immensely. It seemed easy at first, so I was happy to see the level design increase in complexity. It was very fun, and the fact that it is built entirely with HTML5 canvas is awesome.

Babel by Merkoth 2013-05-06T16:32:00

This was an interesting game. I do wish it had some music and maybe a progress indicator. It would also be nice if combat wasn't entirely random. Maybe each enemy has a tendency to do one attack over the others? Right now it feels like I might as well as just hit the square every time. Regardless of all of that, good work :)

Epic Green Cube by Robrock55 2013-05-07T18:11:00

I have the same error as 'blasphemous rumours entertainment studios'. Running Win7 64-bit with Oracle's Java 7

Unfalling Star by diegolh 2013-05-06T15:38:00

From my Jammate Brian: "Graphics are beautiful, controls are a really unforgiving considering the size of passage ways."

IIII by Kuupu 2013-05-06T18:26:00

Controls didn't make much sense at first, but with a little practice I got the hang of it. Cool concept with good art. As always, nice to play an entry with music and sound effects. Well done! :)

Pixel Dominoes by Pinkerator 2013-05-06T17:37:00

Nice and simple :)

Block Run R -First LD- by MrBlade 2013-05-06T16:21:00

Great job! This is a nice product for your first LD :)

I jumped into the abyss to see what would happen and I was happy it restarted me at the beginning. However, if you wipe the score and don't reset the potatoes then I can't win! It could use some music and sound effects.

Collision by MatrixBai 2013-05-06T15:37:00

From my Jammate Brian: "Some instructions would have been good. The concept is pretty interesting. I like the simple-choord sound effects."

What the fish !! by RevoluGame 2013-05-06T15:52:00

Good job! This is a nice little game. I actually really like the art style.

However, as others have said, it would be nice if the potato launcher was more than a pink square, Hitboxes were definitely a little finicky, and some sound would have been nice too.

Triquacir by dertom 2013-05-06T16:04:00

Wow! This game was really interesting. I especially like the bounce on the menu at the end of the level. That is a nice little touch. It is a shame the netcode didn't work out!

Also, it ran fine for me on Win7 64bit.

-End- by Bognet Team 2013-05-07T17:46:00

From my Jammate Brian: "I like the `satori maiden ~ 3rd eye` remix for the first level's music. I completed a playthrough, but only after swapping out my keyboard. I had to swap out my keyboard to allow me to run, jump and move at the same time."

Shoot (AAA_FPS_GOTY) by quill18 2013-05-06T18:20:00

Played in multiplayer just after the submission and had some fun. Very impressive work for 48 hours. I love the sound effects :)

Princess Chardonnay in Bomb Kingdom by Ishisoft 2013-05-06T16:55:00

From my Jammate Brian: "Some of these levels are surprisingly tricky. A lot of fun to play, though I've always had a spot in my heart for blowing things to pieces."

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Short Circuit by Nick Cash 2013-08-27T04:03:00

It does say in the description that we are in the process of making a distro. Pyinstaller is being a jerk, so it will be a little bit.

Short Circuit by Nick Cash 2013-08-27T05:14:00

A distribution is now available for Windows. Please let us know if you find any bugs! :)

Short Circuit by Nick Cash 2013-08-30T01:19:00

@LordHellMaX - I looked back in the repository and it looks like the whole SHIFT to move slower thing got wiped out by someone when some functionality got moved to a different file. Thanks for pointing it out! It got wiped out so early that we apparently never noticed it was gone :P

Short Circuit by Nick Cash 2013-09-08T09:17:00

Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

@AidanAK47 - The ship was supposed to be able to alternate between the speed it has now and half of that for more precise dodging, but it got botched in the repository and did not get added back in before submission.

As for the enemies disappearing, this was simply because we didn't have enough time to implement an explosion. The sound effect triggers, but we didn't have an explosion animation to use and we ran out of time to make a decent one.

Our initial concept included much more elaborate levels and boss battles, but again, we ran out of time. We actually made a system to allow level creation using Tiled to define enemy spawn points, but due to real life things some of our team got called away and most of us work on the Monday after LD, thus making the Jam effectively 48 hours anyway.

I definitely agree with your points though. The ship should move slower like it was initially capable of, there should be legitimate explosions not just for enemies that explode, but for the little missiles that get fired, and there should be actual levels with bosses.

Short Circuit by Nick Cash 2013-09-18T21:07:00

The timelapse has been uploaded to Youtube if anyone is curious.

Time and Time Again by BrothersT 2013-08-29T23:49:00

Interesting concept. Like everyone else said, needs some music but otherwise appears to be well executed. However, I couldn't get very far even with the hints here.

Also, is the loop supposed to instantly reset when I hit the G key? Because it is, and since it isn't listed in your controls I figure it might be a testing thing :P

Time and Time Again by BrothersT 2013-08-30T07:12:00

Came back after a clue from my friend and we worked it out together. Very clever little game you've got here! :)

Five Seconds by Latcarf 2013-08-30T00:36:00

Very good entry for the 48 hour compo. I like the idea of using time as both a resource to manage and a victory condition. The only real problem was that hat the controls felt pretty loose sometimes; I'd be trying to get a bullet but just end up dancing around it and lose. The RNG nature of some of the levels (that last one in particular) was also a little frustrating, but the levels are quick so restarting was never really painful.

Nice work!

Greed Run by Elrobo 2013-08-30T00:44:00

Really fun little game! Took a few tries to get the hang of it, but once you know what you are doing it controls quite nice. The level variety was nice, and it looks really good for an LD entry. Sound effects were a great fit also! Very nice entry.

10 seconds to run by Geekstory19 2013-08-30T00:48:00

A good little game for a first entry. It could definitely use some more levels, but that is true of pretty much all LD games. Hope to see more games from you in the future :)

Delayed by Jordo76 2013-08-30T01:05:00

A very nice entry! Levels felt varied and fairly interesting, and it is always nice to play a game with music and sound effects. Art was good as well. Might have been nice to have some sort of display of the inputs that you gave and their timers, but waiting 10 seconds isn't that hard either and encourages one to be precise. Overall a very complete entry; good work guys!

Insomniac by AidanAK47 2013-09-03T02:06:00

A really interesting entry! I didn't know about Ren'Py; I'll have to check it out for my own projects :)

Lab of Broken Time by Kaslai 2013-08-29T23:20:00

You had me with "You are a Dr. Pepper chugging mad scientist." This game was about me! All an all, a fun little game. Would have loved more levels, but I feel that way with all LD games. Music, sound effects, good fit for theme -- a very nice LD entry!

Also, I don't usually see many people choose C++. I definitely liked the rewind feature; I'll be looking through the source a bit to see how you decided to do that :)
