Neat idea, though not really any "challenge". Like the way the simple graphics are used very effectively.

Funny, sometimes break a bit, and no real difficulty (a maximum number of guesses could have added that), but some of the pairs are sincerely funny. Good job !
Excellent ! Feels very tense, even though it can be 'cheated' a bit by leaving c and v pressed all the time. Pretty crazy when ble jellies shoot are you while you're surrounded by red ones !
Nice way to kill some time, not too harsh. Got the direction wrong on one of the looping one though. But overall quite nice.
Very fun, love the atmosphere !
Agree with the comment about the player moving a little bit too slowly though. But very very nice work there.
Thanks for the comment! :) There was supposed to be an actual story in the game, but as I feared having a class and a family reunion during the weekend ate way too much time.
Well, of course, after a good night's sleep and 20 minutes of thinking, I've got a almost completely working light system... Won't edit my entry, but if you're curious... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17113774/intotheunknown-0.2.zip
Thanks for trying it! I *think* you aren't completely trapped in any level, but well, sometimes the way out can be pretty hard to see. I'm also aware that the controls/physics need some tweaking, because as you can only guess your jumps, it could be a little more responsive. ^^
Found out about those tools yesterday, I was planning on creating proper packages in the next few days (after finding out that you need to run them on their target platform). First time distributing a python program on another platform than Linux, so thanks for the reminder.
To everyone, I'm very sorry, but I've been pretty badly ill for the past 12 days or so, and thus didn't have the chance to do as I promised and make easy-to-use binaries. And unfortunately, now I'm at work and tonight I'll be going left and right to address some administrative stuff, so...
And jovoc, thanks for the comment ! I do plan on finishing this, hope it'll turn out well.
Can't seem to finish the first level either. ^^; Got two or three times near the end (screen stopped scrolling), but died. Plays well and looks nice, though.
Nice, finished it pretty fast, after some frustration, but just the right amount of challenge. Could have use levels with a steady progression in difficulty. But overall a very nice way to spend a couple of minutes.
Argh, no chingu package for Archlinux... I may try to install it manually, because that would be a shame, having installed all the other dependencies :D Will get back to you with a rating and some comments if I do it!
I'll add my voice to the choir and say that the dashing was fun :D Too bad the rest was a bit lacking. Still, fun to control.
I'm... confused :D It may be just me, but there's too many stuff going on. I managed to get at least some score after a while (ranked 21st as of now \o/), but I suppose it's more luck than skill :D Also, took some time for me to even locate my ship. Still, you're 15 right ? Kudos for taking part and finishing your entry, keep it up ! (and keep using python, and maybe take a look at http://www.pyinstaller.org/ to package your pygame apps. Works quite well, but use the SVN version !)
XNA + Linux being a no-go, I unfortunately cannot test your game :( Sorry about that, and good luck anyway !
As others said, the voice was pretty cool ! The game itself was quite hard, too. But nice nonetheless !
Really good stuff. Controls are really tight, and the graphics are crude but effective. Music was good too. All in all, a very solid entry !
Very, very pretty. And even with the framerate going down, it still played very well. It's true it's simplistic, but that leaves space for admiring the great artwork ! Good job !
Great stuff ! Love the music & sound, particularly !
Sorry I couldn't try and rate this one. It crashes with Wine (I'm a Linux user :( ) Good luck anyway !
Well, not bad for only 3 hours of work :) And the visual aspect was striking enough. Hope to see what you can come up with next time around with a bit more time !
I found your progress updates fascinating, I was really looking forward to seeing how it would all come together at the end. Pity you couldn't get more of a "real" game, but the technical feat sure is impressive. Well done !
Well didn't rate because of gamemakingdude's comment, but I did play, and I must say I'm also a bit confused. I tried to select a path, but the heroes always seemed to go on a fixed trajectory. So all I did was... click on the heroes and watch them progress.
Fun little game. Can be quite hard, and the audio was not very likeable, but the gameplay was really good. Very innovative, and the insta-respawn made the difficulty frustration-less :) Well done !
Nicely done ! Ended up being much longer than I thought it would be. Good job, but would be awesome with some music & sounds !
Really amazing stuff. And I've not yet played the enhanced version :D
Would also have tried it, but unfortunately I'm on Linux, and .NET 4 doesn't run with Wine. Sorry, and too bad, I love shmups ! Good luck anyway :)
Cool concept, could be elaborated into something really neat. The goal was a bit obscure the first time around, but I finally figured it out, and there was a real tension as you tried to gather as much as possible up until the very last time when you had to craft stuff in a hurry. Nicely done !
Awesome game ! The graphics were incredibly good, and the gameplay was great. Really excellent stuff, did play for quite a while !
Ok, thanks for the feedback! I knew this wasn't going to be as smooth as I planned, the installer creation was too easy...
Updating the installer as soon as I can...
Replying to myself to add that I got feedback that the "run after installing" option fails, but launching the game via the start menu works afterwards. Did you try it ?
@Yezu : I saw that yesterday : on my comp' it worked fine, of course (also using ubuntu). Still investigating the issue...
@thristhart : Thanks for the remarks (in the first post, that is :p). Couldn't agree more about the theme. Frankly, I wasn't inspired, so I just went with an idea that appealed to me and tried to somehow retrofit the theme on it. ^^
@mpc174 Thanks for the comment. The text is actually skippable though... Should mention that >_<
@Yrael : You're on Windows ? If so did you try launching it from the start menu after exiting the installer ? I'm trying to quickly come up with some new binaries that are more thorougly tested.
Thanks for letting me know it didn't work for you in any case!
Thanks TellusE and Yrael for the comments :)
Regarding installers, I know, I would have preferred a simple executable, but the only thing I found for panda3d was an alternative "small executable that downloads panda3d at first startup", which 1) takes forever, and 2) still installs panda3d somewhere, but I'm not even sure where... So I chose the less of two evils. ^^;
Thanks for the feedback !
I suppose you can chalk up the lack of sound effects to the usual LD suspect: the lack of time. I planned to record some things, but finally pushed that again and again, until it was too late. I do have plans for this one though, and it's right up there on the to-do list !
@someone Thanks for the comment ! Actually that "impossible situation generation" bug has been fixed, and I must say it was an embarrassingly dumb programming mistake XD I had the code there to ensure that the obstacles were spaced enough, but forgot to exit the loop looking for a suitable position if one was found. Result : it always went to the end of the loop, picking the last position, however bad it is. Yay for rushed coding :p
Thanks :D The aforementionned bug makes it indeed REALLY hard ^^;
@Draknek
Thank you for the feedback !
The installing stuff is not the best, I know. I've yet to find how to do a simple archive for panda3d apps on Linux. I suppose it won't be for this time, but I hope to have figured something out for next time!
As for the ducking/jumping, the lack of sound cues certainly didn't help, I know. I wanted to avoid having a tutorial that was too obnoxious... And I totally forgot to add a replay possibility. I was so caught in finishing other stuff at the end of the compo that it slipped right out of my mind.
Thanks for all the feedback !
You're clearly right about the intro, should have at least been a seperate menu entry for those who would have wanted to read it.
For the difficult-to-avoid signs, it's true, but it was a bug, not an intended feature >_>
The whole HUD was kind of placeholder stuff that stuck there. And the sign were made laaaaate... I wanted to have more variety, but time was too short.
As for the last suggestion, I wholly agree (though jumping doesn't slow you down, only ducking).
Thanks again, anyway, I already started working on an improved version of this, it probably won't be released too soon, but the design is becoming quite solid in my head...
Glad it worked ok for you too, and thanks for the comment :)
Haha, no worries, figured it was something like that, so no offense taken !
Very nice-looking game. Feels very polished. And I didn't mind the slow movement. And good job with the blog posting, that's always cool to see how the making of the game went !
Haha, that was excellent :D Loved the camels. But I'll be mostly echoing other comments : most of the things in the game were great. The life displayed as the string, the music, the art style... And above all else the totally nonsensical premise :D Well done (also, the Windows version works perfectly with Wine under Linux...)
Excellent ! Too bad the option to go back let you see a big empty void. But other than that, fresh and nervous take on the running game genre. Pretty neat entry.
@zzorn : It's a 64-bits file, that may be the problem.
The 'hidden' combinations are a nice touch. :D Too bad you didn't have the chance to explore them further. (people wanting a checkpoint, I'd suggest trying green + blue...).
Oops, like I have something missing, I got this (under linux) after installing LOVE and try to run the game :

Any suggestion ? :\
Some nice idea in this one. Loved the way the monster appear, really creepy with the sound the first few times :)
But yeah, the radar became a bit obnoxious after a while.
Nice little game :) Could be built upon to become something really neat !
Fun physics-based gameplay. Sometimes the "springs" blocks were a little frustrating (not launching you high enough). Also, I took some time to realise you could double-jump.
Anyway, the game is really neat. And just so you know, it's working with Wine in Linux :)
For the love of all that is holy, MAKE THIS INTO A FULL-BLOWN GAME !! With a bit more polish gameplay-wise, you've got a masterpiece with this one. The aestethics are just incredible. The gameplay, if a bit obscure at first, is an extremely well tought-out interpretation of the theme. And this music... Honestly, you really did something great here !
Too bad there's no way to run Unity games under Linux :( This one looks pretty cool ! (And your timelapse was great, btw...)
Really cool concept, but a bit hard to play on an azerty keyboard (the WASD character is difficult to control). Almost reached the end, but I must admit I didn't persevere. Anyway, fun game, and great work on the blog posting and stuff :)
Very well done, even with the short length. The retro graphics and the music really clicked together. Hope to see this developed further !
Sorry, had your game on my "to-rate" list, but .NET4 on Linux is not working (using Wine). Too bad, but good luck anyway !
Looked great, bummer it doesn't run under Wine in Linux :( Would have loved to try this one. Good luck nonetheless !
Very well written, thanks for the laugh ! Also, nice work on getting all that music composed in the short time span (in addition of the pretty good graphics).
Sorry, would gladly have tested it, but XNA games + Linux doesnt go well... Wish you luck with your entry nonetheless!
Also left Graphics blank because of the icon set, but overall nice little game. The music was pretty cool :)
Nice :D (And the Arch binary was a nice touch too). I did recompile however because of the fact that it's basically way too hard to play with a non-qwerty keyboard. But it was worth it. Love the frantic gameplay, the sound effects just work, and as a bonus if you let the game run after you died, it still fills up with ennemies, making for some kind of mesmerazing modern art :D Good job !
Unfortunately nothing appears here... Using the latest Firefox, but I suspect it's my integrated Intel graphics card that's acting up. Will give it another shot when I'm back in front on my desktop PC this weekend.
Well done. Too bad for the fixed WASD scheme that made the controls awkward on my azerty keyboard, but I still managed to get to the end. The sounds didn't play consistently though, but that's not a big deal. Loved the various paraphrases of the theme!
Excellent stuff ! Too hard for me (until now at least), but really fun and addictive. Nice job!
That was pretty cool ! I would love to see it explored with more ennemies and a longer game. Also, that could become a really deep puzzle game. The only thing I didn't like that much is the times where you had to wait sometimes quite a long time before an ennemy agreed to shoot you. But otherwise, pretty cool :)
Funny, if really unchallenging. As others said, the "braiiins" sound effect was neat :) If you upped the challenge, and worked on having some clever level design around the items, this could become something really fun to play. Also, I must commend your awesome participation in the community aspect of the LD. Regular blog posts, timelapse, and informative comments. Grats !
I finally got around to make native versions of the game ! Sorry everyone for not getting back to you sooner, but between trying to solve our sound problems (didn't work on my machine), and Christmas... But there you go, hope you'll enjoy it !
@Waynetron : That would be very much appreciated. It was my first time really getting down and using shaders, as well as using models imported from something other than blender, so if I can pinpoint what I did in a non-portable way, that would be great !
Nice mood, and very, very awesome music. I was also confronted with the bug mentionned by other. A shame you couldn't finish it !
Nice little game, what's there feels solid and relatively well polished, but as other said a bit more content would go a long way to make it more enjoyable. Congratulations on finishing on time though :)
(I'm one of the developer)
@Kinokochan : Thanks ! We know about the UI disappearing, it's unfortunately a bug that was introduced in the last hour or so, when we tried to put together the transition between levels... :( To help you see the other worlds, you can use a cheat, if you launch the game via a command prompt with "-g" (like "p2start.exe -g"), you'll enable "god mode", and you won't take damage or die in pits. The game is fairly hard (especially level 2), so that can help ^^;
@Raptor85 : Thaks for the comments. Level 2 in particular takes indeed way too much time to load up. To be honest, we kinda had to decide at the end if we wanted to focus more on tightening up what we had included, or try to hack in as much 'content' as possible. We obviously chose the latter, because we wanted all the members of the team to get at least a glimpse of the result of their work in the submitted game. If it had been a compo enty, the opposite choice would've been made.
Thank you for taking the time to try it though, any and all constructive criticism we can get is much appreciated. We've started working on a post-LD version already, so we'll be sure to improve on the areas you stated!
@gritfish : You need to collect enough stars (45 in the first level), before going to the right end of the level. Unfortunately, a bug makes the GUI elements (like the life and star counter) disappear when you die :\ Sorry about that!
I tried running it in Wine, but between no sound and the unresponsive UI, I think it's doing something wrong. Too bad, since the game looked like a fresh idea!
As the other said, the particles and overall response to the shots are nice, but the games feels a bit arbitrary in how it awards points. Could be a little more explicit. But nice start!
Pretty fun game. Absolutely loved the aesthetics, and the game feels pretty solid. No obvious bug or anything (except the restart thing). Very well done!
Doesn't run on Linux either. I'm getting this :

Sorry can't edit, but if I can help debug this, you can ping me on twitter.
Unfortunately, the "Linux" version isn't working either. Same error. I'm using Java 1.6 on a 64 bits system. Sorry it's still not working :(
Great idea, but quite hard to grasp. Good job though!
Nice one! I couldn't change weapons though (on an azerty keyboard, you have to press shift to get to the numbers keys). It would have been nice to let people use the arrow keys to navigate, as WASD becomes the equivalent of ZQSD on my keyboard. Well done, though!
Good concept, but the movement speed seemed a bit extreme to me :) With a bit more polish, it could become quite enjoyable. Congrats.
Unfortunately, no one was around when I tried, but I love the idea. Will try to connect again, but you deserve good scores on the relevant categories. Good job!
Sorry, cannot play XNA games on Linux (using Wine). Maybe my Wine knowledge is just not up to snuff, but this wouldn't run for me. Sorry :(
Very nicely done. Didn't encounter any bug, the music was great, and the game beautiful, if short and easy. As others said, it would have been great to have the "corruption" mechanic actually do something inside the game. Here it was a neat effet, but nothing else. Happy new year to you too, though!
This was awesome. Cannot say much without spoiling, but it was a really great game. Congratulations!
Great concept, really a shame that you could not finish it. It would not need much to become really fun. The music was great however. Keep at it!
Sorry I can't test your game (I'm on Linux). Looks fun!
Nice one! Python dev here, so I had pygame installed. Tried to make an executable for you, but I also failed, sorry :( Anyway, great game, simple mechanic, but the levels are well designed. The music was a tad too loud, but the idea is very sound, and the presentation di it justice. Hope you elaborate on this game!
Nice little platformer. Too bad there wasn't any music in the levels, because the sounds got a bit annoying after a while. You also seem pretty much invulnerable if you press c all the time. But the style was pretty cool. Good job!
Awesome. Played it twice to completion, and have quite a few remarks.
- When you restart, you already have the flashlight in your inventory. Nothing serious, but still.
- While the controls were a bit unusual but usable, I think they could have been improved a lot with only a couple of tweaks. First, when rotating and/or moving to a new node, the view should reset directly to looking right in front of the character, like it does when you don't press anything for a few seconds. Then, you could have used the arrow keys for rotation, but look around with the mouse. Not in a FPS way, but rather by making the character turn when the pointer came close to the edge of the screen.
- The sewer area was REALLY dark, even with the flashlight on.
- Great atmosphere, the descriptions were well written, and I loved being able to use more than one sense to get a better idea of the room I was in. The audio is also spot-on.
- The intro did its job *really* well. One of the high points of the game.
All in all, congratulations on making an awesome (if short) adventure game!
Holy crap, did I install a 64-bit windows on my virtualbox ? It's been a while, I'm not sure...
I'm so sorry guys! :\ I will get this sorted.
The windows version is fixed, sorry for the inconvenience. It was a dll that didn't get packed with the rest. It is now included in the download.
Yep, had a report of that this morning for linux. Problem is it's a python program, so compiling it is not really an option. And it doesn't seem to find the .so when I include it in the folder. So I'm trying to find another way to make it work.
@HeXoT : Thanks for trying it out. That's a new bug :) Too bad it prevented you from playing to the end! I do agree there should have been a graphical representation of the info you had so far somewhere so you could better see who you need to kill. Thanks again for playing and for the feedback!
@Rex Peppers: Unfortunately I haven't been able to do a Mac OS version yet, sorry :s
@jmassing: Ah too bad, I tested the Linux one to work with a clean Ubuntu 12.04 install, I need to do the same with the Linux 64 one. Was it the one you tried?
@delpes & Blodyavenger : I'm working on it, should have a Win64 version up. Sorry :( (and delpes, as I said, I tested the game to work on a 32 bits clean install of Ubuntu 12.04)
@epinion : Thank you for the feedback! Those are two of the features I had to cut due to time, but I completely agree. Though apparently I forgot an "if", and you are still able to kill people without ammo XD
@ceronman : Thanks for the nice words. I didn't know I screwed up the ammo check though, I guess it's a "cheat mode", I could call it ? :)
I've got my hands on a Win64 machine right now, I'm building a version for it! :)
Apparently it is caused by an "access violation". I'm completely inexperienced with Windows, BUT I have a workaround that I will implement right as I come home from work (I spent a couple of hours on it and only found out the possible remedy minutes before leaving). Thank you so much for your patience!
@Patacorow : Are you using Windows 64 bits? If so unfortunately it's normal! I'm working on it!
Ok it should run fine on Windows 7 64 bits. If it doesn't, I will cry myself to sleep in a corner of my room ^^;
@lucas-b.eyer.be : Thanks! Indeed, the "aaaargh" dialogue comes up when you kill the right guy. I'd guess you pressed enter and skipped the dialogue, because the text says that you need to escape the city. I could have clarified (and did it in the description on this page), but that means you need to reach the border of the map.
@dj_pale : Strange, never encountered that bug. Thank you for playing and for your kind words though!
@cwilloughby : Thanks, you're right that the movement doesn't feel very "juicy" yet.
@Dark Acre Jack : Nooooooooo :( Well, I will try your suggestion and record a playthrough (or two or three, to show the various endings) and link it on the top of the page.
@OU GDA : Thanks for trying it out! Revisiting the notes is the top thing I would have added if I had time. Let's consider the 'bug' where you can shoot without ammo a balancing feature? :D
@Tom 7: Thank you too for your very kind words. The issue with the 32 bits versions was with the audio decoding lib apparently causing issues with the security mechanism of Win 7 64 bits...
Nice one! Pretty hard (and the resolution is very small by default, scales nicely though), but quite fun. I think it's well suited to repeated replays since the difficulty is not too high, you just need to focus and get better. Well done!
Sorry for not being able to test your game :( I'm under Linux so OSX only games I cannot run. Good luck though!
Nice little game. Seems a bit strangely balanced though. The fire thingy is crazy strong for most of the game, but the last hero I cannot seem to stop. I also had trouble when trying to "play again". Some of the heroes apparently were still counted as being there. But good job :)
Not very easy to control on an azerty keyboard where the numbers have to be accessed by pressing shift. However, the fast-paced nature of the gameplay made me try to master it for a good long while. Polished and with a refined control scheme, this could become something quite nice. Also, nice way of handling the restart :)
Unfortunately I cannot rate Unity3D web games (I'm on Linux :( ) I could run either a Linux standalone (if you're on Unity 4) or a Windows one. Would you consider exporting one of these ?
Tried to play it several times now, and apparently no one connects. Too bad, it looked cool! Good luck!
The flashing lights were a bit much, and I never passed the second stage (the K kept disappearing for some reason). Very good idea though, and good execution! The drawings introducing our hacker were funny :)
Quite hard to play on an azery keyboard, and after a while I couldn't select my ships, so I lost. But cool concept, I like how it becomes more and more hectic. Good job!
Too bad your game is Windows-only, it really looked like a great one but sadly, I'm on Linux and couldn't even make it run in Wine. Good luck though!
Haha that was awesome. Very nice writing, and had fun reading all the combinations. :) Very very good job.
Plays very well, looks great. Unfortunately as others said you use pre-made assets so I cannot rate you as a compo entry. Very sorry. You should expand on this game though, with different levels and whatnot, it could become quite something.
The graphics are really great, the whole atmosphere of the game is really neat. The same basic technique seems to work for all levels though, so you probably could mix it up a bit. That said, nice use of that online music generator : fits the rest of the game. Hope you'll turn this into a fully-fledged game.
