LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

The Adventures of Rubberman! by CataclysmicKnight 2010-08-23T20:03:00

Not bad! The art is cute and the gameplay seems pretty polished.
The bouncing back was a little buggy, as sometimes it didn't appear to actually respond to getting hit, but most of the time it was good.
I wasn't sure if I could hit the innocents, since they are spiky--I was afraid Rubberman was going to get caught on them.

This would have been a lot better if I had really known what was going on (a red box might look more menacing than a blue box), and if it ran at more than 1 FPS.
I like the simplicity of the graphics, but diagonal lines wouldn't go amiss. I also quite like the getting smaller when you get hurt.

The Robots and I by PaulSB 2010-08-22T20:54:00

It was a little hard to realize what to do at first. It's not exactly clear that you need to keep pressing space to actually hack them enough until they stop. The lack of control of them after they're hacked makes it pretty difficult--you never know what direction they are going to end up facing. Otherwise, it was pretty good!

It works fine on XP for me. Installed SlimDX itself, but I already had the .NET stuff.

Glad everyone is liking the art! Sorry the game is so short, but my map editor ate the longer map, so I made this one in about 5 minutes flat, with no thought to it whatsoever.

I've already added a notifier about which spell is selected, so expect to see that after the competition is over. You can see a screenshot of it in my latest blog post, however!

GreaseMonkey: Flash makes for great Web deployment. Personally, I am of the belief that Flash is good for games and video, and that’s about it. Hopefully your opinion on that doesn’t color your voting, as there are quite a few Flash games on here.

As for the theme, you can’t kill an enemy on your own unless you set him on fire. Enemies on fire also set others they touch on fire, killing them, too. If you freeze an enemy, you can drop him onto another enemy. You can use wind and shoot him into another.

I'm a bit surprised to see you say N/A for humor: I tried to get a little humor in the graphics and animations. Personally I think his falling animation and death animation are pretty funny, not to mention the screaming animations for each enemy. I also quite like how fast the Chompers are when you set them aflame.

devinmoore: Awesome! That comparison is truly an honor.

Very hard to control, but a great concept!

This. is. beautiful.

Super hard to understand what's happening, unfortunately. But you nailed the atmosphere perfectly!
